Failte Ireland

All our tours depart from Dublin

We will meet you at dublin airport.

Known as the 'Gateway to Ireland', Dublin marks the beginning for all of our Ireland tours . If you book with us, your driver-guide (one person) will meet you at Dublin Airport.

Arriving in Dublin City

As Ireland's capital and largest city, Dublin is the first destination for the majority of international visitors to Ireland. All of our Ireland tours start here and we will always provide options for you to be met at the airport.

If you choose to arrive a few days early

For those who choose to arrive a few days early for their Ireland tour, there is a growing number of public transport options in the city. These include an international airport and two train stations. The city is also the focal point of Ireland's motorway network (car hire is available at the airport but advance booking is recommended).

Dublin Airport

Almost everyone who arrives on a visit to Dublin from abroad will arrive by plane (though some self-drive visitors from the UK may arrive by Ferry). Dublin Airport is located just 10km (6 miles) from Dublin City Centre and is accessible by both the M50 and M1 motorways. It is made up of two terminals. Visitors arriving from the USA and Canada will be arriving at Terminal Two.

Terminal One

Short-haul flights. Served by Ryanair, British Airways, Germanwings, Iberia, Lufthansa, Norwegian, SAS and Air France.

Terminal Two

Long-haul flights. Served by American Airlines, US Airways, Delta, Air Canada and Aer Lingus. Recent additions to Terminal 2's roster include United Airlines, Etihad and Emirates.

Airport Shuttle Bus Services

There are bus services available to and from both terminals, provided by Aircoach , Airlink , Dublin Bus and GoBus . Aircoach will bring you to multiple stops in Dublin City, including O'Connell Street and Grafton Street. They also operate routes to and from Cork City (€19- Adult, Single, 3hrs) and Belfast City (€12- Adult, Single, 2hr 20mins). You can follow their distinctive blue signs from the arrivals hall in both terminals. GoBus offers a route from Dublin Airport to and from Galway City (€18- Adult, Single, 2hrs 30mins). A ticket to Dublin City Centre from Dublin Airport costs €6 (Single)/ €11.50 (Return). Dublin Bus also operates a service between Dublin Airport and Dublin City for a similar price.

Like all international airports, there is a large number of taxis available outside both terminals at all times. To travel to the city centre by taxi will cost between €30-€40.

Currently, there is no direct railway link between Dublin Airport and Dublin City.

If you are already in Ireland and want to visit the capital, then rail is certainly a viable option (though buses are a great alternative). The two main train stations in Dublin City are Heuston Station and Connolly Station. Heuston Station is located to the west of the city centre, close to the Guinness Storehouse. Connolly Station is found to the east of the city centre, close to Trinity College and Dublin Port. Both stations connect Dublin with Cork to the south, Galway to the west and Belfast to the north. The bus that connects Hueston and Connolly Stations to Dublin Airport is the number 747 (see here for more details) .

The DART is an electric train systems that runs along the coast of the Irish Sea, from North County Dublin to County Wicklow (South of Dublin). The DART runs every 15 minutes during peak hours (7am to 9am and 5pm to 9pm weekdays) and every 30 minutes off peak. To travel the full route of the DART one-way, from Howth in North Dublin to Greystones in County Wicklow, will cost €6.

Tram Service

The LUAS (Irish for speed), Dublin's tram system has been in operation since 2004. Its Red (Northside) and Green (Southside) lines spread across Dublin City. Ticket prices vary depending on how many zones you plan on passing, but you can expect to pay €3 to get from one side of the city to the other (one-way).

A convenient and cost effective way of paying LUAS and DART fares, as well as a number of other public transport services in Dublin City, is the use of a Leap Card .

Most people who visit Dublin City would usually advise against driving there. The traffic in the city centre can come to a stand-still for large parts of the day and you have to travel miles outside the city before you can find any free parking. If driving to Dublin city is a must you can find more information on parking here .

The main bus terminal of Dublin City is Busáras Central Station . Located on the eastern edge of the city centre, on the same street as Connolly Train Station. Busáras Central Station is the terminal for all state-run buses coming in and out of Dublin City, both locally and across Ireland.

There are also a number of private bus companies that operate in and out of Dublin City. Their pick-up and drop-off points differ from one another and depend on what part of Ireland you are going to/coming from. The majority will have pick-up and drop-off points at Dublin Airport.

Dublin Port operates ferries across the Irish Sea to Liverpool in England, Holyhead in Wales and, during Summer and Christmas, to Douglas on the Isle of Man. The ferry companies that operate to and from Dublin Port are Irish Ferries, Steam Packet, P&O Ferries and Seatruck Ferries.

Getting to the City Centre

Dublin Port is connected with Dublin City Centre via Dublin Bus ( the number 53 bus ). Bus fares are payable with coins (Euro), smart cards or pre-paid tickets. There is a plentiful number of taxis outside Dublin Port at most times of the day, expect to pay in the region of €9 to €12 for a taxi to the city centre. The Luas Red Line tram operates 7 days a week and is located on East Wall Road, opposite the entrance to Dublin Port, and a one-way ticket to the city centre costs €2.

Getting around Dublin

Throughout your tour, all your transport is provided unless you choose use local services to explore more widely during your free time. For those exploring Dublin independently before or after their guided tour of Ireland, here are the three main options for local transport throughout Dublin City.

Dublin Four Courts

Dublin Bus Services

Dublin City and its suburbs are well catered for in terms of bus services. The state-owned Dublin Bus company, founded in 1987, has a reputation of being reliable, plentiful and not too harsh on the pocket.

It is always advisable to check their timetable and stop locations if you are planning a bus journey, especially if you are new to the city. For more information, visit their website...

Bike hire in Dublin

NOW Dublin Bikes

Dublin City runs a bike hire scheme, sponsored by a subscription-based TV service NOW. It is a cost-effective and quick way to get around the city. There are 109 stations in total, each within close proximity to another.

A user must first take out a subscription, which allows an unlimited number of rentals. A long-term subscription is €35, a 3-Day ticket costs €5. Under 30 minutes is free and prices only go up after this. For longer rides, it is advisable to get to a terminal in under 30 minutes and take a new bike. For more information, visit their website...

taxi cabs

Dublin City taxis are also known as hackney carriages, the kind that you can flag down on the street or find at a taxi rank. There are also private hire vehicles, which are not licensed to "ply for hire" or stand in a taxi rank and can only be booked in advance.

A taxi journey of 35 minutes (for example from Dublin Airport, in the North of the city, to the city centre) would cost between €30 to €40. See here for more info on Dublin Taxi ranks .

TripAdvisor - 5 Day Edge Of The World Tour

We went on the 5-day Edge of the World Vagabond Tour. If I could rate it 10 circles, I would.

In addition to the great hikes, we went to a sheepdog demonstration and got to feed and hold baby lambs, we got to row in traditional boats in Dingle, and we had a fantastic bike ride around Muckross Lake in Killarnery National Park.

I am beyond thankful that we booked the 5-day Edge of the World Tour with Vagabond.

Having a small group like Vagabond really adds to the experience. We only spent five days with our group, but plenty of tears were shed when we all hugged goodbye.

We would certainly recommend Vagabond to anyone thinking about a tour instead of driving, we just wish they were in other countries so we could plan our next vacation with them.

Review Image

Very well done tour! Our tour guide was great and we found the tour to be the perfect balance of time with the group and independent time to explore.

We highly recommend vagabond tours for anyone seeking a great tour of Ireland that is smaller, more personal experience as compared to the larger tour buses.

Find answers to frequently asked questions about the 5 Day Vagabond Edge of the World Tour itinerary.

Is This The Right Tour For Me?

We do our utmost to ensure that the tour style you choose matches your needs. Our team offer honest and professional customer service from the moment you first get in touch.

Read the following physical requirements to understand if your tour choice matches your abilities.

How Fit Do I Need To Be?

You'll need basic mobility to enjoy any of our small group tours of Ireland. Standing and walking for extended periods is required on both tour styles.

For Vagabond Cultural Adventures , the fitness requirement is considerably higher than on a Driftwood Journey of Discovery .

When & Where Do Vagabond/Driftwood Tours Depart From?

All of our tours leave from our pick-up/drop-off point at the Grand Canal Hotel in Dublin .

Our pick-up times from the Grand Canal Hotel vary by tour:

Do I Need To Pre-Book Activities Before My Tour?

You don't have to pre-book activities until you join your tour. While on tour, your VagaGuide will advise you when you need to book an optional extra.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: The only exception is the Skellig Michael Island landing option. This optional extra is only available on the 12 Day Vagabond Giant Irish Adventure Tour . It requires prior booking at least 45 days before you arrive in Ireland.

How Much Cash Should I Bring To Ireland?

We recommend bringing a small amount of cash in euros to Ireland with you.

Around €300 euro should be more than enough to get you through your first days in Dublin.

How Much Should I Tip Tour Guides In Ireland?

The industry standard in Ireland is €15 per person, per day. But this is, of course, at your discretion.

Our team of VagaGuide tour guides really appreciate any tips that come their way after leading a Vagabond or Driftwood small-group tour.

What Size Luggage Should I Bring?

To make everyone's tour run smoothly, we operate strict limits on baggage size. Plan to bring 1x compact suitcase as well as 1x daypack or backpack, per guest booking.

Your single large piece of luggage should weigh no more than 51lb (23kg) and measure no longer than 30” (75cm) along its longest side. This 30 inch (75cm) limit includes any wheels that may protrude from the suitcase or bag.

What Should I Pack?

Travel light.

That's the one travel tip that we hear again and again from guests who have experienced our tours.

Where Can I Do Laundry On Tour?

Serviced laundry facilities are available on tours that stay 2 nights in the following towns:

  • 🧺 Dingle - Check which tours visit Dingle

Is Lunch and Dinner Included?

Lunches and dinners are not included on Vagabond and Driftwood Tours. You are free to choose your own lunches and dinners.

Your VagaGuide tour guide will recommend their favourite cafes, restaurants and shops. We find that this flexible approach to included meals allows us to cater for diverse tastes, budgets and diets.

All hotel breakfasts are included in your tour price.

Do Hotels In Ireland Have Air Conditioning?

Most hotels in Ireland do not have air conditioning.

The climate in Ireland usually isn't hot enough to warrant air conditioning.

In periods of prolonged warm weather, hotels that don’t have air conditioning will normally install fans in the bedrooms.

Find out more about Irish weather and the best time to visit Ireland

Do Hotel Rooms In Ireland Have Hairdryers?

All of your hotel rooms on tour provide hairdryers.

Please note that, in some cases, Irish hotel hairdryers may not be the most powerful models.

What Hotel Beds & Rooms Are Available?

All of our hotels offer double, twin and single room types. Doubles have 1x bed, twins have 2x separate beds and singles have 1x bed.

The standard bed size in Ireland equates to a US Queen (60" x 80"). This may vary with hotel or room type.

Do I Need Travel Insurance?

While travel insurance is not a requirement for our tours, we strongly recommend that you purchase comprehensive travel insurance cover before your trip to Ireland.

Your policy should cover all medical costs associated with travel.

Are There Restroom Stops During The Tour?

Yes, there are regular comfort stops along the tour route where you can avail of restroom facilities.

Simply ask your VagaGuide if you're unsure when the next stop is coming

Do Tour Vehicles Have Wifi & USB Charging Points?

There are no wifi or charging points available on Vagabond & Driftwood tour vehicles.

We recommend bringing a cellphone with you on tour in Ireland to take pictures and to stay in touch with loved ones back home.

Talk to your cellphone provider about international data roaming before you depart. Alternatively, purchase a sim card on arrival in Ireland to help you get online.

If you think you'll need it, pack a lightweight power bank in your daypack or backpack.

Even better, take a digital detox while exploring Ireland with us!

What Activities Have Weight Limits?

We always put guest safety first on Vagabond Cultural Adventures.

For this reason, when engaging in kayaking and horseback-riding activities, the following personal weight limits apply:

We call them VagaGuides .

What Day Do Tours Return To Dublin?

To help you plan your return flights, here are the days and times that our tours return to Dublin.

The return point for all tours is Dublin's Grand Canal Hotel

Where Will My Tour Start From?

All of our tours pick-up and drop-off from the same point in Dublin - the Grand Canal Hotel.

The Grand Canal Hotel is located just south of Dublin city centre.

Can I Access My Bag While On Tour?

It's difficult to access your main luggage or suitcase while on tour. Luggage is securely packed in our tour vehicles. As a result, it's not easy for your driver guide to access individual items of baggage during the day.

However, you can easily access your luggage at each hotel. So that you have your travel essentials close at hand, we recommend bringing a daypack, or backpack, that you can keep beside you in the tour vehicle.

Are Hotel Rooms In Ireland Ensuite?

Yes, all hotel rooms on Vagabond and Driftwood Tours of Ireland are ensuite.

Expect your own separate bathroom with toilet, sink and shower unit and/or combined shower and bath.

A hot shower after a mountain hike. A real fire. A pint. We assure you that wherever you stay with us, you’ll love it.

We put great effort into selecting accommodation on Vagabond tours. Your tour will overnight in locally-owned establishments (in some cases for generations). Receive a heartfelt welcome, often from the hoteliers themselves. No hotel chains here!

13 Best Day Trips from Dublin (By Car, Tour + Train)

13 Best Day Trips from Dublin (By Car, Tour + Train)

In this guide, you’ll find 1, the best day trips from Dublin for those of you with a car and 2, some great day tours from Dublin for those of you without a car .

While there are plenty of things to do in Dublin , it’s well worth exploring the wealth of attractions that lay a short distance away.

And, although the likes of Wicklow tends to be the ‘go-to’ of the Dublin day trips, there’s plenty more on offer, as you’ll see below.

The best day trips from Dublin by car

best day trips from Dublin by car

If you’re driving, there’s countless places to visit near Dublin by car, once you know where to look.

Below, you’ll find the ‘old favourites’ like Glendalough and Newgrange, but you’ll also find some often missed Dublin day trips, like the Cooley Peninsula and more.

1. Wicklow (55-minute drive)

Glendalough walks

Photos via Shutterstock

Also known as the ‘Garden of Ireland’, Wicklow is one of the best day trips from Dublin for good reason!

Well-known for its outstanding natural beauty, the county is blessed with glittering lakes and monastic villages and ruins.

I’ve been taking half day trips from Dublin to Wicklow for years and the itinerary that I tend to use is this one:

  • Head to Glendalough, first, as the car park can be a pain later in the day
  • Pick one of the Glendalough walks , e.g. the Spinc Loop
  • Get a post-hike lunch at the Wicklow Heather
  • Do the Sally Gap Drive
  • Stop at Lough Tay , Ballinastoe Woods and Glenmacnass Waterfall

If you’re looking for more active Dublin day trips, tackle one of the longer Wicklow walks over the course of a morning!

2. The Cooley Peninsula (1.5-hour drive)

Carlingford Town

Photos by Tom Archer via Tourism Ireland

The Cooley Peninsula is one of the more overlooked Dublin day trips. There’s plenty of things to see and do here and there’s a clatter of great places to eat.

Depending on whether or not you want to include a hike in your trip, here’s a suggested itinerary:

  • Pick a walk (options – Ravensdale Forest Walk , Annaloughan Loop Walk or the Slieve Foye Loop )
  • Spin into the town for breakfast/lunch ( Ruby Ellen’s is hard to beat)
  • Take a tour of the castle or rent a bike and spin along the Carlingford Greenway )

There are heaps of other things to do in Carlingford if the options above don’t tickle your fancy!

3. The Boyne Valley (35-minute drive)

Trim Castle

County Meath is another of the best day trips from Dublin by car. It’ll take you around 35 minutes by car to reach and there’s an endless number of things to do in Meath to keep you busy.

If you’re looking for a day-out in the Boyne Valley, here’s a mini itinerary to tackle:

  • Book tickets for Newgrange in advance and do the tour
  • Grab lunch in nearby Inside Out in Slane
  • Take a ramble around the trails at Slane Castle
  • Visit the ancient Old Mellifont Abbey

Or, of you fancy seeing more of Meath, check out the Hill of Tara , one of the most important archaeological sites in the country or Trim Castle , the best-preserved of the many Anglo-Norman castles in Ireland .

4. The Mournes (2-hour drive)

Tollymore Forest Park

One of the more impressive places to visit near Dublin by car are the Mourne Mountains in County Down.

Now, you’ll need to do a bit of planning if you opt for this Dublin day trip, as there’ll be a fair bit of walking involved.

If you’re visiting the area for the first time, I’d  strongly  recommend heading into Tollymore Forest Park (above) and then heading for lunch in Newcastle followed by a stroll on the beach.

Or, if you fancy a hike, there’s  heaps  of Mourne Mountain walks to tackle, like the tough Slieve Donard hike .

5. The Ring of Gullion + Newry (1.5-hours)

Cloughmore Stone

© Tourism Ireland photographed by Brian Morrison

One of the best day trips from Dublin that’s very regularly overlooked is the trip that takes in both the Ring of Gullion and a glorious corner of Rostrevor.

Start your road trip with the Slieve Gullion Drive or walk, depending on how you’re feeling (the walk is steep). Head into nearby Gather and Brew after for a bite-to-eat!

When you’re ready, take the spin out to Kilbroney Park – it’s here that you’ll find the Cloughmore Stone and the aptly named Kodak Corner.

If you’re looking for day tours from Dublin with plenty of walks, this one is hard to beat!

6. Kilkenny ( 1.5-hour drive)

Kilkenny Castle

Another of the best day trips from Dublin is Kilkenny. Now, while there are  plenty  of things to do in Kilkenny , many people make the mistake of think that there’s only the castle.

Head for the supposedly haunted Dunmore Cave , first, and take the tour.

Then spin into the city and you have everywhere from the Smithwick’s Brewery and the castle to the Medieval Mile to choose from.

Food wise, there’s plenty of options in the city. If you need a reccy, both foodworks and Aroi Asian Fusion are worth a bash. Round off your day with a visit to Jerpoint Abbey .

7. Options that require 2.5-hours+ driving

Legnabrocky Trail

Although I’ve tackled several places to visit near Dublin by car above, there’s endless day tours from Dublin if you’re open to driving a bit further.

One of the more popular road trips from Dublin is to Cuilcagh (above) in Fermanagh. It’s around a 2.5-hour spin.

If you’re not afraid of a bit of driving, you could visit Waterford ( Coumshingaun Lough’s a tough but rewarding hike), Wexford and plenty more.

The best day trips from Dublin without a car

To/From Dublin Airport

How Do I Get From Dublin Airport to Dublin City Centre?

Read our guide to taxis, buses and tickets getting you from Dublin Airport to Dublin city.

The Basics – Dublin Airport 101

Some basic facts you should know about Dublin Airport.

📍 Dublin is located 10km from Dublin Airport.

⏱️ The journey from Dublin Airport to Dublin takes 20-30 minutes by taxi or bus (in light traffic).

✈️ Dublin Airport has 2 terminals, imaginatively named T1 and T2.

🚖 Find taxi ranks outside both terminals.

🚍 Multiple bus services link Dublin Airport to Dublin, as well as other major cities around Ireland. Find more details on where to find your bus below.

🚆 No rail services operate from Dublin Airport.

🌎 Most direct flights from North America land in T2 ( Aer Lingus, Delta, United, US Airways, American Airlines ). Check with your airline to see where you are landing.

🍁 Ryanair, Transat  and  Air Canad a (as well as other airlines) flights land at T1. Check with your airline to see where you are landing.

🔀 No public transport operates between T1 and T2. You can walk the short distance between Dublin Airport terminals in around 5 minutes. Find the link bridge in the departures level in T1 (beside the security screening point); or in the arrivals level in T2.

Our Recommended Option: Taxi

We recommend catching a taxi to and from Dublin Airport. Taxis hold several advantages over public transport.

  • Door-to-door service. Taxis will drop you from outside Dublin Airport directly to your hotel in Dublin city centre.
  • Taxis move fast through traffic. Dublin taxis use dedicated bus lanes to cut journey times.
  • Both Dublin taxis and bus services operate 24 hours a day from Dublin Airport. But the wait for a taxi will most likely be shorter.
  • Not travelling alone? Take a taxi. The standard taxi fare (between €20-30) makes sense if you are in a group. With more than two people, you will most likely  save  money over the equivalent bus tickets.
  • Got lots of luggage? A taxi makes sense. Your taxi driver will load and unload your luggage, saving you the effort on public transport.

How much does it cost to travel by taxi from Dublin Airport to Dublin city centre?

The standard taxi fare from Dublin airport to Dublin city centre is between €20-30.

This rate can rise if you are travelling on an Irish public holiday or late at night. It could also be higher if your hotel is not in Dublin city centre. For example, a taxi from Dublin Airport to the  Jurys Inn Hotel, Parnell Street  (Irish Experience Tours pickup point) would cost between: €25-36.

Make sure your taxi driver is using the meter, mounted on the dashboard. Never agree a fixed price with a Dublin taxi driver unless you’re confident it’s fair.

If you’re travelling as a group with lots of bags to a specific location, taking a taxi from Dublin Airport to Dublin city centre can be a great option.

Should I tip taxi drivers in Ireland?

In Ireland, tipping taxi drivers is not obligatory. However, rounding up your fare to the nearest €5 or €10 is a fairly common practice. As is the case with tipping in Ireland generally, it’s up to you whether you tip or not.

💡 PRO TIP: In a rush? Tired after your flight? Ask your taxi driver to take the  Dublin Port Tunnel . This congestion-free shortcut can reduce the journey time between Dublin Airport and Dublin city centre by 10 minutes or more, depending on traffic elsewhere. Downside? You will be charged a small amount extra on your fare.

Where Can I Get A Taxi From Dublin Airport to Dublin City Centre?

Taxis are available in the forecourts directly outside both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Depending on when you arrive, there may be a queue. But the wait shouldn’t take too long.

Dublin taxis are not a uniform colour or car brand, like in New York, for example. You’ll recognise them from the yellow and blue illuminated sign, mounted on the roof.

You’ll know a taxi is available if this roof sign is illuminated. A taxi without its roof sign on has passengers aboard, is booked to pick up elsewhere, and will not stop when you hail it.

How do I hail a Dublin taxi?

Simply raise your arm and wave it as the moving taxi approaches. No need to whistle!

Alternative Option 1. Aircoach

Aircoach is the only 24 hour coach service operating between Dublin Airport and Dublin city centre. The main Aircoach route (700) to the city centre departs every 15 minutes between 3.15am and 11.55pm. Outside of these times, its every 30 minutes.

💡 PRO TIP: If you’re staying at the Jurys Inn Hotel or close by, you need to take Aircoach route 700 (Dublin City Centre) or 700 (Lepardstown/Sandyford ). Just

disembark at O Connell Street at Gresham Hotel stop (your driver will announce it). From there its only a 4 minute walk to the Jurys Inn  Hotel on Parnell Street.

Map of Walking Route to Jurys Inn Hotel on Parnell Street to O Connell, Gresham Hotel Aircoach stop

If you’re travelling solo, the Aircoach may be more cost efficient than taking a taxi. The cost is 7 for a single ticket or 12 for a return.

Where Do I Catch An Aircoach?

Aircoach picks up at the front door of both Terminals 1 and 2.

Terminal 1: When you exit T1, turn left immediately and you’ll see the Aircoach stop.

Terminal 2: On exiting the baggage reclaim area, continue along the same level. Make sure to follow the signs for buses and coaches. Cross the footbridge, and then exit the escalator on the left side. There will be an Aircoach customer service team there to answer any questions.

Alternative Option 2. Airlink

The Airlink is an express public coach service from Dublin Airport to multiple locations throughout Dublin city centre. It’s cheaper than Aircoach. However, in our, experience it’s not as comfortable as Aircoach and not as convenient as a taxi.

Airlink accepts Leap Cards (see below). Without a Leap Card, it costs €6 one way or €11 return. Unlike other regular public Dublin bus services (see below), you don’t need exact change. Do be mindful that  Airlink bus timetables are different on Sundays and public holidays .

Airlink uses the Port Tunnel, which runs under much of the north side of the city. The service runs 7 days a week from 4.45am to 00.30am up to every 10 minutes.

Staying at the Jury’s Inn Hotel or close by and taking the Airlink?

Are your staying at our pick-up/drop-off point at Jurys Inn Hotel? You’ll want to catch the Airlink 747.

Tell your driver you need to get off at O Connell Street. It’s a 8 minute walk from this bus stop to the Jurys Inn Hotel on Parnell Street. Route Map Here

Where Do I Get The Airlink From?

The Airlink goes from both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. According to their website, Airlink will have staff there to meet and greet you.

Terminal 1: There is an Airlink information desk in the Arrivals hall. You can purchases your Airlink ticket there, at the Spar shop (a small convenience store located at Arrivals) or at the vending machines at the bus stop outside T1.

Terminal 2: You can purchase your ticket in the Spar convenience shop, to the right immediately as you emerge into Arrivals hall. Airlink staff will also assist you with any queries you might have.

See JUST LANDED section of their website

⭐️ RATING:  5/5 Stars | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  13.5 hours | ✅   Book it!

Northern Ireland absolutely should not be missed on your Ireland adventure, and this bus tour is a great way of experiencing its highlights. This 13-hour day tour sets off from Dublin and will start by taking you on a 2-hour drive to Belfast.

Here, you’ll jump into a black cab for a Belfast tour led by a guide who grew up in this city during the ‘troubles’ (the Northern Ireland conflict).

The tour will take you through the neighborhoods that were at the heart of the conflict, as well as the famous peace wall, and along the way, you’ll listen to tales of this city’s bloody past.

There is the option to swap the black cab tour for a visit to the Titanic Dock and Pump House, the site where the ship was constructed before beginning its tragic journey.

The Titanic Experience, situated next door, is a fantastic museum containing artifacts from the ill-fated ship, as well as many interactive exhibitions.

Next, you’ll head to the UNESCO World Heritage sight of the Giants Causeway. This natural wonder is a true sight to behold, and learning about the mythology surrounding the causeway is fascinating.

Test your bravery by crossing the nearby Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, suspended 100 feet over the fierce Irish Sea.

All admission costs are included in this trip, and the onboard guides are informative and will keep you entertained throughout the day.

The Wild Atlantic Way is a popular trail covering the entire east coast of Ireland, taking in some of the country’s most breathtaking scenery. The road is windy in many parts, and conditions can be treacherous, thanks to Ireland’s unpredictable weather.

This means that driving the Wild Atlantic Way as a self-guided trip can be a stressful experience, and you’re likely to spend more time looking at maps than appreciating the magnificent views.

There are many Ireland tour packages that cover this route, and a bus tour of the area means all hassle is removed – instead, you can sit back and take in the epic beauty in comfort.

The Cliffs of Moher Tour takes you through the most scenic spots along the Wild Atlantic Way, and you’re given free time to explore the magnificent cliffs at your own pace.

The trip also makes a stop at Burren National Park, famed for its thousands of archaeological sites and rocky landscapes.

Your final stop will be Galway City, where you’ll enjoy a 30-minute introductory tour before spending a few hours exploring this waterfront paradise on your own accord.

Wandering around Galway’s brightly colored buildings and sampling fresh local cuisine is an experience not to be missed!

The day trip lasts for around 13 hours, and your local guide will share their knowledge of the Irish countryside as you pass each stop.

There’s even Wi-Fi on board the coach, so you can keep your Instagram followers updated with all the incredible things you see throughout the day.

⭐️ RATING:  5/5 Stars | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  10 hours | ✅   Book it!

This bus tour will take you on a journey exploring Ireland’s mythical folklore and stunning medieval architecture. You’ll start at Kilkenny Castle, an 800-year-old Castle founded soon after the Norman occupation of Ireland.

After spending time exploring this remarkable site, you’ll head to a working sheep farm where you’ll watch sheepdog trials and learn how these dogs heard the farm’s animals.

Getting an opportunity to visit a working Irish farm isn’t part of the usual tourist trail, and this is just one of the things that makes this bus tour a great choice.

After this, you’ll drive through one of the highest mountain passes in Ireland – the Wicklow Gap. This road is nestled between rugged green hills, and the scenery is breathtaking. Make sure to pack your camera!

This area was used as a filming location for ‘Braveheart’ and ‘P.S. I love you’; it’s one of the most stunning spots in Ireland.

The nearby Wicklow Mountains National Park is your next stop, and here, you’ll enjoy a two-hour guided walk that takes in impressive views across the dramatic mountain range.

From here, you’ll head to the Glendalough Monastic Settlement. This early Christian settlement was founded in the 6th century, and your guide will walk you through the church ruins and ancient graveyards while recounting folklore tales.

The mystical energy in this place makes it a truly special environment to explore.

This 10-hour day trip is one of the best Ireland bus tours from Dublin for anyone interested in delving into Ireland’s mystical history while also soaking up some of the country’s best natural wonders.

Small-Group Wicklow, Powerscourt, and Glendalough Day Tour from Dublin

Large estate with a gravel walkway stretched across the front and a large grassy area

⭐️ RATING:  4.5/5 Stars | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  8 hours | ✅   Book it!

One of the downsides to bus tours is that traveling in a large group can come with downsides.

Larger queues for attractions, not being able to ask your guide all your questions, and people getting in the way of your pictures – these are all things that sometimes happen in a large group.

This Ireland bus tour from Dublin is the perfect trip if you’re worried about these problems. With a guaranteed maximum of 16 people, this is a great way of experiencing all the perks of bus tour travel without any of the downsides.

You’ll have plenty of exploration time at each spot, making it the perfect tour for the more independent traveler.

This 8-hour trip starts and ends in Dublin and makes seven stops. Your first stop is the Molly Malone statue, and then you’ll drive to Powerscourt House and Gardens. These gardens are voted 3rd best gardens in the world by National Geographic!

Next, you’ll head to the charming Enniskerry Village Square. Traveling as part of a small group means you get to visit more local attractions, and Enniskerry Village Square is somewhere that larger group tours don’t tend to visit.

Next, you’ll spend an hour driving through the Wicklow Mountains National Park, stopping at all the noteworthy points along the way, such as the Guinness estate and Sally Gap.

You’ll visit the bridge used for filming in P.S. I Love You before heading to the beautiful Lough Tay, also known as Guinness Lake. Guinness Lake is where the series ‘Vikings’ was created, and the view over the lake is one of Ireland’s most spectacular.

Finally, you’ll head to the Glendalough Monastic Settlement, where you’ll have time to explore the beautiful valley and all its ruins.

This is an excellent Ireland bus tour from Dublin as you get to escape the city for a few hours and explore rural Ireland without having to spend too much time on the road – all of the stops are relatively close to one another.

Titanic Belfast Experience, Giant’s Causeway, Dunluce Castle Day Trip from Dublin

Game of Thrones fans won’t want to miss this Northern Ireland bus tour. You’ll board the bus in Dublin for a 2-hour drive up to Belfast, where you’ll head straight to the Titanic Belfast Experience.

Here, you’ll hear stories of life aboard the Titanic and learn about the people who made her – in the very place you stand.

Following this, you’ll head to the 500-year-old Dun Luce Castle. This iconic castle is located on a cliff edge, towering high above the wild Atlantic Ocean – making it one of the most dramatic views in the country.

It was used as a filming location in Game of Thrones, and fans of the show will recognize it instantly.

Your final stop will be at the Giant’s Causeway, one of Ireland’s most famous landmarks. You’ll have 2 hours to explore this magical site before returning to Dublin.

All entry admissions are included in this bus tour, making it a very convenient day out. The day trip is 13 hours long and suitable for all age groups.

⭐️ RATING:  4.5/5 Stars | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  10 hours | ✅   Book it!

This is one of the best bus tours in Ireland for history lovers. Ireland has a rich history, and on this trip, you’ll travel more than 5000 years back in time as you explore some of the country’s most significant historical sites.

The 10-hour-long tour will start and end in Dublin. Your first stop is the famous Hill of Tara, the most sacred ancient site in Ireland. You’ll have an hour to explore this giant mound, which is where the high kings of Ireland watched and ruled over the country.

A quarter of the country can be viewed atop this hill on a clear day – it’s a pretty special place.

Next up is Trim, an Anglo-Norman castle that is the largest of its type in Ireland. Admission here is included, and your guide will teach you all about the history and significance of the castle.

It has been remarkably well preserved and is surrounded by stunning scenery, and you’ll spend an hour taking it in in all its glory.

Following this, you’ll go to Loughcrew Cairns, a passage of 5000 Neolithic burial tombs which are filled with ancient rock art.

The next stop is the nearby Fore Abbey, a fascinating area home to 7 wonders – the monastery in the bog, the mill without a race, the water that flows uphill, the tree that has three branches/the tree that won’t burn, the water that won’t boil, the anchorite in a stone and the stone raised by St Fechin’s prayers. Pretty impressive!

This is a fantastic day out, offering the chance to delve into ancient Ireland without spending the night away from the city.

⭐️ RATING:  4.5/5 Stars | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  12 hours | ✅   Book it!

This is a great bus tour from Dublin that explores the highlights of County Cork and County Tipperary.

The buzzing city contains a truly vibrant Irish atmosphere and is a foodie’s paradise.

After your time in Cork, the next stop is the famous Blarney Castle. This beautiful castle is famous in Irish legend – the Irish have been kissing the Blarney Stone for centuries, and it’s believed that by kissing the stone, you’ll receive the ‘gift of the gab’… otherwise known as seven years of eloquent speech. Maybe there’s some truth in it – the Irish are great storytellers!

This 12-hour tour is a must for history lovers, as it journeys around some of Ireland’s most impressive historical landmarks.

Your ticket is usually valid for 24 hours and allows you to get off at each site you want to explore and skip the ones you aren’t interested in.

Many of the tour providers (such as Big Bus Dublin) also include a free walking tour within the ticket, led by a local historian who takes you to some of the lesser-known sites in areas the bus can’t reach.

ladellbetts46 - TripAdvisor Day tour to Cliffs of Moher and others Three friends and I did the day tour and it was incredible. The Cliffs of Moher and the general "greeness" throughout the trip were sights that I will never forget. However, what made the trip truly spectacular was the humor and leadership of our guide, John Kelly. Not only was he extremely knowledgeable…
shanja - TripAdvisor Professional and fun I did the Cliffs of Moher tour, together with my husband and my mother in law. All was perfectly timed and the bus driver, Valentine, was amazing. He gave us a lot of info, he was professional but at the same time fun and entertaining. We were very happy and we definitely recommend the company.
chlorophyllenvy - TripAdvisor Cliff of Moher with Dermot - AMAZING! We had an absolutely amazing experience with Paddywagon. Our driver Dermot was exceptional, in every way. The cliffs were just amazing, breathtakingly so. The trip was long but loaded with history and enchanting tidbits about that beautiful country and its history. We were honestly trilled and it was…

Flying in shannon/out dublin.

Here follows a suggested itinerary, we can start and finish at any airport and we will customize a very special tour for you to suit you every need.

Day 1 – Arrival and Transfer to Hotel

img

Shannon is the easiest Airport in the world to negotiate and certainly the friendliest Irish airport we deal with. When you disembark you will be brought to the main airport terminal where you will first be met with passport control.

You will then proceed to collect your luggage before walking through customs. After that, you come through the arrivals door where your private chauffeur driver guide will be waiting.

You will know our guy straight away, he will the guy with the biggest and most welcoming smile!

We arrive at Shannon Airport nice & early, typically 6am/7am. You could then take a short drive to one of Ireland’s finest castle hotels,  Dromoland Castle  for breakfast. With an extraordinary history stretching back to the 5th Century, Dromoland Castle was originally the ancestral home of one of the few families of Gaelic Royalty; direct descendants of Brian Boru, the High King of Ireland.

The breakfast here is truly amazing and believe me when I say it is fit for royalty. This is, of course, optional. You pay on-site on the day approximately €25.00 – €30.00 per person but so worth it and a fantastic way to start your vacation. Alternatively, we could drive to your chosen hotel and check in if possible. Generally, check-in is not until 2PM but we will inform them of your arrival and we will be given priority should a room become available earlier.

Overnight in Dromoland/Adare/Limerick, choice of hotel:

5* Dromoland Castle, Adare Manor, The Savoy Hotel Limerick

4* The Strand Hotel Limerick, The Clarion Hotel & Suites Limerick, Dunraven Arms, Adare

  • Bunratty Castle & Folkpark

img

Later we will drive to  Bunratty Castle & Folk Park  and the  Blarney Woollen Mills Bunratty store . Bunratty is one of Ireland’s most visited attractions, where you can experience the Irish way of life centuries ago.

Built in 1425, Bunratty Castle was restored in 1954 to its former medieval glory with the addition of 15th and 16th-century furnishings, arts and crafts. The Bunratty Folk Park experience captures the sights, sounds, tastes, and scents of this enchanting place as you stroll from house to house or around the charming village street complete with school, post office, doctors house, hardware shop, printers and of course McNamara’s pub! You will have time to explore the Woollen Mills for all authentic Irish Produce such as Irish linens, lace, and crystal. All at Duty-Free prices too!

The first day will take about 5/6 hours and, from our experience, the jet lag will most definitely be setting in, and so we will return to your accommodation without delay. Then you can relax and explore your hotel and its surrounding area, and perhaps take a needed nap to keep you fit for the days ahead.

Day 2 – Cliffs of Moher and The Burren

img

We depart our hotel after breakfast for the wonderful  Cliffs of Moher & the Burren . Rising from the sea to a height of 214 meters and running relentlessly for 5 miles, generations of visitors have not failed to be impressed by what many regard as their 8th wonder of the world.

The Cliffs are just beautiful and there are great walks here. As you and your snap happy camera take in the magnificent view, you can feel the full force of the Atlantic Ocean from the floor up. Some souvenir and craft shopping can be done here also.

When we are finished at the Cliffs we then travel along the famous Galway Bay into the typical Irish town of  Ballyvaughan . Here we can have some nice lunch along the way.

Then it’s on to the nearby  Burren Region , a limestone plateau with its treasure trove of geological and archaeological interests.

The Burren is home to many of Ireland’s most famous prehistoric monuments. After lunch we can visit  Birds of Prey at Aillwee Caves , a personal favourite of mine, where you will see Falcons, Eagles, Owls, & Hawks all hunting for their dinner!

This is a great show that lasts 50 minutes. Next up is the  Dolmen Graves  which go back to 3600 B.C. These Neolithic graves are very typical in County Clare. We will then drive through the rugged Clare countryside and back to your accommodation.

Overnight in Dromoland/Adare/Limerick, in choice of Hotels:

5* Dromoland Castle, Adare Manor, The Savoy Hotel

4* The Clarion Suites & Hotel Limerick, The Strand Hotel Limerick, Dunraven Arms, Adare

Day 3 – Killarney

img

We depart our Hotel today for our 3 day stay in the Kingdom of Ireland,  Killarney , our highlights for today include:

  • Ladies’ View  – so named after Queen Victoria’s ladies-in-waiting during the Queen’s visit to Killarney in 1861. The views toward the McGillycuddy Reeks and the Purple Mountain Range are truly magnificent.
  • Torc Falls  – we follow a scenic path to the top of the 18 meter high waterfall for panoramic views.
  • Muckross House  and Gardens – this magnificent Victorian mansion forms the centre-piece of Killarney National Park.
  • Ross Castle  – this 15th century stronghold was the original home of the O’Donoghue Ross Chieftans.

We then take a 15 min drive to the  Kissane sheep farm , where we will see some sheep shearing and some sheep dog trials, this is a great stop, sure to put a smile on your face.

We will then head back to  Killarney  and check into your choice of some of the most beautiful Hotels in Ireland. Your Personal Chauffeur Driver guide will be with you every step of the way. He will be more than happy to recommend restaurants and bars for the evening and make any reservations for you that you may need.

Overnight in Killarney, choice of hotel:

5* The Killarney Park, The Europe Hotel, The Aghadoe Heights.

4* The Killarney Plaza, The Great Southern Hotel, The Killarney Royal

Day 4 – The Gap of Dunloe

img

Today is a favourite of ours,  The Gap of Dunloe , it gets us up out of bed earlier than usual! We begin by taking a short drive to Kate Kearney’s Cottage where we jump twice – once on an  Irish Jaunting Car  ( Horse & Carriage), and secondly, we jump back in time and things get pretty authentic here folks.

We tour through the beautiful mountains, mystical lakes & valleys which abound County Kerry, with majestic scenery everywhere we look. You will be able to get out of the carriage and walk through this pure and unspoiled beautiful terrain.

Your camera will be snapping crazy so make sure it’s fully charged! When we get to the top of the mountain you can have some light lunch at Lord Mount Brandon’s Cottage.

After this magnificent lunch you will come down the other side of the mountain in an open Fisherman’s boat down through the 3  Lakes of Killarney  to  Ross Castle .

Keep your eyes peeled, on the way down you might see some eagles nests in the mountains and see some salmon swimming beside you in the lake. This tour will live with you for a long time to come, it is truly spectacular. Then after that, you will have some time to explore the  Town of Killarney  and have a nice stroll through her pedestrianised streets before dinner.

Day 5 – The Dingle Peninsula & Slea Head

img

Today we tour to the most awesome place on earth  The Dingle Peninsula & Slea Head  where we will see some of the most beautiful and unrivalled scenery in Ireland.

Our tour will take us to the beautiful town of  Dingle  via the  Conor Pass Mountains . The views here of Dingle town are spectacular and you can even see Tralee on the other side. You will have plenty of time to explore the lovely fishing village that Dingle is and take some lovely photos.

You can also take a boat journey to see  Fungi the dolphin  who has been a resident in Dingle Harbour for over 20 years (optional and paid for locally).

Onwards to  Slea Head  to continue the visual feast of scenic Ireland. We will stop at  Dunbeg fort  which takes us back to the 7 / 8th century with the unusual and intriguing  Bee Hive Huts .

Slea head has what surely is my favourite beach in the world, Dunquinn. The movie buffs among you will be able to see and learn all about the famous  Ryan’s Daughter  which was filmed onsite right here. No wonder as this place is simply magical.

We then visit  the Gallarus Oratory  one of the first churches in Ireland, before some time in Dingle and onwards to Killarney via  Inch beach . This is one beautiful day that you will never forget.

Day 6 – Ring of Kerry

img

Today we drive the famous  Ring of Kerry , we will visit some lovely colourful little towns along the way, full of colourful characters too! One favourite is Waterville village, Charlie Chaplin fell in love with this place and he vacationed here every year. In fact, in the end, he loved it so much he moved here before he passed on to better things, we hope.

The scenery here is, well maybe I should just say that seeing is believing. We can have some very nice lunch at the Smugglers restaurant overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and proceed to the top of the mountain to see breathtaking views of the Ring of Kerry. We will then drive to my favourite town on the Ring of Kerry which is  Kenmare , charming, friendly, traditional, peaceful…you can judge for yourself. When this beautiful day is over we return to Killarney for a grand evening meal.

Day 7 – Depart Killarney for Cork, Blarney Stone & Jameson Whiskey Distillery

img

Today we head for the  Blarney Stone & the Blarney Woollen Mills . Go on, do it! Kiss the famous stone that millions of people line up to do every year. Enjoy the Castle grounds which are historically educational as they are enjoyable. Then you can shop till you drop and purchase all your authentic shopping in Blarney Woollen Mills right next door. They will even send it to your house for you!

After Blarney we will head to a favourite gem of mine, the  Jameson Whiskey Distillery  in Middleton where they make the best whiskey in the world. This is a great tour indeed. If we have time we can visit the heritage town of  Cobh , this was the last port of call for the Titanic before that dreaded voyage. We can do the  Titanic museum tour  there. When the day is over we make our way to Cork City and check in at your hotel of choice for the evening.

Overnight in Cork. Hotel Option:

5* Hayfield Manor

4* The River Lee Hotel.

Day 8 – Kinsale & Cobh

img

Today we head to the unique town of  Kinsale , the gourmet capital of Ireland as we know it. This is a beautiful fishing village that you will find on every postcard in Ireland. There are many seafood restaurants here that have made it into good food book all over the world, I kid you not, yes the world!

The name is doubly odd, ‘Fishy Fishy’ but the food in this restaurant is truly delicious, we have to book to get a table and a nice bottle of wine, but leave that to us, they know us well! The atmosphere here is relaxing, authentic and you will have long forgotten every care in the world. You will have plenty of time to go for a nice walk and take in your own piece of Kinsale. When the day is over we will return to Cork City for the evening to your Hotel of choice.

Day 9 – Depart Cork for Dublin via Rock of Cashel. Trinity College, Book of Kells, St Patricks Cathedral.

img

Today we will say goodbye to Cork and make our way back to the capital city,  Dublin.  Enroute we will stop off in the beautiful town of  Cashel . It is home of the iconic  Rock Of Cashel . Cashel’s rich history is reflected in its built heritage, from medieval monasteries and fortified townhouses, a Georgian Cathedral, and a 21st-century library which holds the smallest book in Ireland! We can stop here then for some lunch before heading off again on our journey to Dublin.

We will then proceed to  Trinity College Dublin  an absolute must see. As you walk through the cobbled stones you will be brought back to the 18th century, when the magnificent Old Library was constructed. It is here that you will also get to see the world famous Book Of Kells, a 9th-century gospel manuscript. You will also get to view the Long Room which houses over 200,000 of the Library’s oldest books. We will stop for a little refreshment before heading to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Ireland’s largest Cathedral dating back to the 13th century. After a day steeped in history and magnificent sites, you will then return to your hotel of choice for the evening.

Overnight in Dublin, choice of hotels:

5*The Shelbourne, The Merrion. The Westbury, The Conrad Hilton.

4* Brooks Hotel, The Raddison Blu Royal, Dublin.

Day 10 – Guinness Storehouse, Kilmainham Gaol and afternoon stroll on Grafton street

img

After breakfast we will take a short journey to the world famous  Guinness Storehouse . Here, you will get to see how the famous stout is made. You will get to taste it and you can also learn how to pull the perfect pint. You will also have time to shop for Guinness memorabilia in their wonderful gift shop.

Next our journey today will take us to  Kilmainham Gaol , the biggest unoccupied jail in these Islands. As we walk through you will get a very realistic insight into what it was like to be confined in this house of punishment and correction between 1796 and 1924. Famous Leaders of rebellions were all detained here such names as Robert Emmet, Charles Stewart Parnell, and DeValera. Afterwards, there’ll be time to walk through Dublin’s famous Grafton Street. You can stroll around and do some shopping or soak up the ambiance of street entertainers, musicians and buskers.

5* The Shelbourne, The Merrion. The Westbury, The Conrad Hilton.

Day 11 – National Library, Jameson Whiskey Factory, Christchurch Cathedral, National Museum…..Howth

img

For those of you that would like to trace your ancestors, a trip to the  National Library  is a must. They have Census records dating back to 1901 and the 1911 census of Ireland is fully searchable online. View birth marriage notices dating back to 1845. If you are on the ancestral trail, there is an ideal booklet available to help you on your way, indeed there is a full Genealogy service available (inside office hours). We will then stop for a spot of lunch in one of a few favourite spots before heading to Jameson Whiskey Factory.

Yes, I know we are world famous for so much. Just like the Guinness storehouse, here at the  Old Jameson’s Distillery  you get to see how the famous whiskey is made and a little taste to finish your day. ‘Uisce Beatha’, the Irish for water of life, taste it here and see for yourself why!

Next we visit  Christchurch Cathedral  which was founded c. 1028. Here you can explore the medieval Crypt which is one of the largest in Britain and Ireland. It houses fascinating memorials of the mummified “Cat and The Rat” which was mentioned in Finnegans Wake by James Joyce and The Treasury. Christchurch was a major pilgrimage site in the medieval period and today it is still possible to see the relic of the heart of Laurence O Toole, patron saint of Dublin. Just a short journey away then to  National Museum  steeped in material artifacts of Irish heritage, culture, and natural history.

Day 12 – Departure

img

It’s always a sad day when we bid our guests farewell at Dublin Airport from our beautiful country but we hope that we will see you again sometime, Ireland is infectious. We’ll collect you in good time from your hotel and transfer you to the airport. We’ll ensure you have plenty of time for check-in and duty-free shopping. The phrase in our native tongue says ‘Go n-éirí on bothar libh’ which means may the road rise to meet you.
