A panoramic view of Mumbai's landmark dhobi ghat (open-air laundry) is available from the bridge next to Mahalaxmi railway station. However, nothing beats going down into the heart of the action where hundreds of washermen manually flog dirty laundry from all over the city in rows of concrete troughs. See the Celebrated Dabbawalas

Mumbai's 5,000 dabbawalas have received worldwide recognition for their extraordinary delivery of some 200,000 dabbas (lunch boxes) to office workers in the South Mumbai business district every day—and they've been in business since 1890! The dabbawalas carry the lunch boxes by train from suburban homes and use a special system to sort them. Be outside the Churchgate railway station between 11.30 a.m. and noon to observe the process.

Walk Around Holy Banganga Tank

The tank's origin is connected to Lord Ram in Hindu mythology , and Hindus believe that walking around the tank has immense purifying benefits. If you head over to one of South Mumbai's maidans (open fields), you'll be able to see for yourself what the game is all about and maybe even join in. Those who have read Gregory David Robert's epic " Shantaram " will be familiar with Leopold Cafe , the shady central meeting place in the book. Leopold's has been around since 1871 and further rose to notoriety when it was attacked by terrorists in 2008. These days, the cafe may not be as mystic and dark as you imagine, but it's always buzzing with an eclectic crowd. On the same road, Cafe Mondegar is another of Mumbai's top hangout places where music pumps from a retro jukebox and the beer flows freely.

Nothing will take you on a trip down memory lane like Mumbai's last remaining Irani cafes and bakeries. Their decor hasn't changed from when they were set up in the 1900s by Irani Zoroastrian immigrants who fled persecution. Being a coastal city, Mumbai has some pretty stunning sunsets. They're best enjoyed at a rooftop bar accompanied by a sundowner cocktail or on the beach with the locals. Girgaum Chowpatty , at the northern end of Marine Drive, is the city's classic sunset location. Other popular ones include Worli Seaface, and Bandra Bandstand, and Juhu Beach in the suburbs.

Party the Night Away

You won't have to look far to find a pub or bar in Colaba. Hip 145 Kala Ghoda is only five minutes away from there too. More bars and clubs are clustered around Lower Parel and Bandra West in the suburbs. While bars usually stop serving alcohol and close by 1:30 a.m. due to legal restrictions, swanky clubs in five-star hotels will stay open up to 4 a.m. on weekends.

Mount Mary Church

An ancient church, built in 1640 and then rebuilt in 1761, The Basilica of Our Lady of the Mount is also an important religious place in Mumbai. What adds to the charm of this church even more is that it is sited on top of a hill known as ‘Sunder ban Bandra’, which overlooks the mighty Arabian Sea.

Rajabai Clock Tower

Located in South Mumbai, Rajabai Clock Tower stands in Mumbai University Fort Campus located next to the High Court. Kamla Nehru Park

St. George Fort

St. George Fort or Fort George stands in the Fort area of Mumbai. Named after King George III, the fort was built in 1769 at the site of the Dongri Fort, as an extension of the fortified Bombay region.

The reason behind its construction was to provide defense against an expected attack by Napoleon Bonaparte. The fort was also used as a storehouse of arms and ammunition. Between 1889 and 1892, St. George Hospital was constructed at the fort site and its remains can still be seen. Global Vipassana Pagoda

ETAA Business Partners Meet 2024, Mumbai concludes with 25 exhibitors & strong attendance

The event aimed to foster connections between tourism brands across different verticals and the Mumbai travel trade community. The Enterprising Travel Agents Association (ETAA) successfully concluded the inaugural edition of the ETAA Business Partners Meet 2024 on 20 th August in Mumbai. The event aimed to foster connections between tourism brands across different verticals and the Mumbai travel trade community. Exceeding expectations for a first edition, the event attracted 25 exhibitors and 80 participants from around 150 registrations. Supported by Tourism Malaysia and Visit Qatar, the meet featured prominent exhibitors such as Fishtail Tours & Travels, Rupee Boss, and SATTE, among others. Sharing enthusiasm for the first edition, Jagat Mehta, President & Board Member of EETA, shared that ETAA is planning to take it to other cities where other ETAA members are. He further added, “This is more intimate than the big exhibitions because of a closer interaction of the exhibitors with the members. We are very happy with the outcome, along with great support from the exhibitors, even when we finalized the event in just 7 days.” When asked about the response, Dipti Thakoor, Board Member & Event Head, ETAA expressed, “ETAA has been conducting knowledge sessions regularly, but this thought came up in our minds why not doing a show where different verticals from travel and trade avail an opportunity to connect better. It is our first attempt; we are glad that we anticipated 20 tables but booked 25 tables. The tables were sold out in 8 days, and we received registrations of more than 150 agents.”

Further on the response, Dharmesh Advani, National General Secretary, ETAA, mentioned, “Being our first event, we got an overwhelming response from agents as well as exhibitors. Close to 80 agents and 25 exhibitors got a chance to interact with each other with enjoyed a lucky draw every 30 minutes”. According to him, the exhibitors were a mix of international and domestic DMC’s, visa facilitators, hotel chain, airlines & tourism boards. T3 also explored the exhibitors’ perspective, to which Jane D’cruz, Marketing Manager, Tourism Malaysia – Mumbai Office, responded, “We can see good quality crowd at the event. We are here to meet small players, not the big giants, who are equally serious. We are very happy with the response; the footfall is good along with quality. We are definitely look forward to its further editions.” On the similar lines, Akshay Kalyankar, Tourist Information Officer, IndiaTourism Mumbai, MoT, GoT, also shared that the aim is to promote India and its various products, and at the same time, bring as many tourism service providers under the umbrella of MoT. “The response at this show has exceeded my expectations. We met people from various segments, and it is a very good platform for us, that enables the marketing of products, services, and most importantly, networking”, added Kalyankar.
