From San Fernando Valley, California, USA, HAIM are a trio of sisters who play well-crafted pop songs with a rock edge.

The three sisters, Este Haim (guitar/bass), Danielle Haim (vocals/guitar) and Alana Haim (guitar/keyboards)are joined by drummer Dash Hutton to form the band, with their R&B influenced pop rock receiving widespread acclaim following their early releases in 2012. The band meld influences from 90s R&B acts such as Destiny's Child with the soft rock of Fleetwood Mac alongside 80s synth pop to create their fresh, original sound.

Having come from a musical family, the Haim sisters had a long history of performing and playing together and had started the beginnings of their band in 2007 but did not consider taking it seriously due to pursuing other interests. Following their regrouping in 2012, they played with bands such as Edward and the Magnetic Zeros and Kesha, before releasing their debut EP "Forever" as a limited free download. Alongside the release and a string of successful shows at SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas, US, HAIM garnered the attention of the record industry, signing with Polydor Records in the UK in June 2012. Following a UK tour and growing press coverage, HAIM topped BBC's annual poll for 'Sound of 2013,' which cemented their success for the following year, being the first all female act to win this accolade.

Their debut album, "Days Are Gone" (2013) was recorded amidst a busy touring schedule, through which HAIM became renowned for their incendiary live show, which displayed a much rockier side to their music than what was displayed on their studio recordings. The album was a huge success in the UK, reaching number one in the charts, whilst reaching number six in the US.

Whilst being an all-girl band, HAIM are quick to dismiss any tag or label of them as being a 'girl-band,' instead wishing to be respected as musicians regardless of their gender.

Live reviews

SoCal sisters Haim have had a stonking couple of years. After winning last year's BBC Sound Of poll, their meteoric rise was kicked off proper, even though they'd been garnering oodles of hype with early material, and gaining comparisons to Fleetwood Mac for months.

Now, in the aftermath of Days Are Gone (“nu-folk meets 90s R&B”, some say,) the trio stampede across the globe, displaying their ditties for all to see. Returning to Glastonbury for an almost-unprecedented second year running, the band rattled through a hit-packed set – including a cover of Beyoncé's “XO” – in the perilous moments before a tremendous thunderstorm struck and halted the entire festival.

Staples of all their shows – or at least the majority – include rousing renditions of radio-friendly pop-rock like “Falling,” “The Wire," “If I Could Change Your Mind," “Don't Save Me” and “Forever." As well, the three sisters (Alana, Danielle and Este) are fond of chatting with the crowd, often with blunt results. However, these days, possibly the biggest definite of a Haim show is Este Haim's infamous bassface. A blend of horror-movie gurns, lemon sucking contortions and the silenced yowls of no-anaesthetic amputations, it's a sight to behold that's become as famous as the band.

HAIM delivered everything I expected at this show, and more! This band has so many different things going for it, that it is hard not to see them having a long successful career. As a matter of fact, in the music business of old, when there were not 10 zillion bands out there, HAIM would be playing arenas and probably making Fleetwood Mac kind of money…The Wiltern isn't the best sounding venue for sure, but HAIM overcame this and totally kicked ass, playing the tunes off of "DAYS ARE GONE" with passion and skill. As good as they all are, (and special kudos also to drummer Dash and keyboardist Tommy) it is hard not to focus on Danielle Haim and her major rock star charisma. It doesn't hurt that she rips it up on guitar and is a pretty kick ass drummer too…All in all, HAIM was amazing, and I would go back tonight if I could get a ticket...

One word: Amazing. Seriously, I didn't think the Haim sisters could do anything that would make me love them more... And then I saw them perform. From magical moments such as bringing their parents on stage or to telling us personal stories in between songs, it was a concert like no other. Haim is such an incredible group and their shows speak volumes to the amounts of talent they had. Life changing night seeing an out of this world band.

All of the buzz following them is well deserved! The album is great; but live these songs truly come to life!! It's like a old friends getting together to party. The passion in Daneille Haim's guitar play will blow you away! Este always tells pretty entertaining story or two for starters. Alana is the mad genius rounding out the rhythm section. Este is the pulse of the band!!

My heart was full after this show. They sound just as awesome live as they do in my headphones. Awesome energy and I truly enjoyed singing and dancing to their songs. 10/10 would attend again.

Also, there was an engagement and they invited the couple to the stage and offered to play at their wedding. (jealous)

Absolutely incredible, paid resale price and still got my money's worth and then some. It wasn't too crowded, and the sound was really good. Their entry and exit from the stage is definitely a breath of fresh air. Will definitely attend future shows!

An amazing gig by Haim as always! Great atmosphere and an amazing stage presence. Can’t wait to see them again soon.

Venue was a little hot but that isn’t the bands fault!

HAIM play biggest ever UK show at All Points East

The los angeles sister act headlined at victoria park.

By Joe Goggins

HAIM press shot, 2021

HAIM played their only European show of 2023 in East London last night – you can see fan-shot footage and check out the setlist below.

The Los Angeles trio topped a bill that also saw sets from Girl in Red, FKJ, Confidence Man , Joesef and Snail Mail, along with a slew of others, as the fifth edition of the All Points East festival in Victoria Park came to a close.

The show will be one of the last of HAIM ’s Women in Music Pt. III. era, and saw Danielle, Este and Alana deliver a career-spanning set that leaned mainly on that album and their 2013 debut, Days Are Gone . You can see the full setlist below.

Taking the stage to the sound of Fergie’s 2005 single ‘London Bridge’, the three-piece launched into ‘Now I’m in It’. The band’s biggest-ever London show, it was an emotional affair, with Alana telling the crowd mid-set when the house lights went up on the audience: “don’t make me cry already, guys. I’ve already cried through like the first four songs.”

With Days Are Gone , which was released via the London-based Polydor, turning ten next month, the show offered the opportunity for reflection on the band’s storied history in the city, with Alana also pausing to say: “London and the UK was the first place to ever embrace us, so we actually call this home,” (per Yahoo! News ).

Accordingly, they were in the mood to reconnect with the city, with bassist Este asking the crowd for recommendations for where to take the afterparty. “I need your help because I haven’t lived in London in a very long time, and I’m not as well acquainted with Hackney as I was back in the day.”

The group last played London last summer, headlining The O2 Arena and bringing out Taylor Swift for ‘Gasoline’. They’ve since joined Swift, a long-time friend, onstage at several dates on the Eras Tour, teaming up on their evermore collaboration ‘no body no crime’.

Earlier over the bank holiday weekend, All Points East also took in headline appearances by The Strokes , Jungle and Dermot Kennedy , whilst the previous weekend saw Stormzy host his own one-day festival and Aphex Twin top the bill at APE Presents: Field Day.

Live Review: HAIM at All Points East, 28/08/23

Instrument swaps and bolstering blood harmonies saw HAIM at their best on the closing night of All Points East

Ten years ago sisters Este, Danielle and Alana Haim took a trip to London and returned with a Polydor record deal. Their debut album, Days Are Gone , was released, and their journey from dusty LA basements to huge global arenas had begun – their UK fans instrumental in setting this course. So a teary Alana tells us from the All Points East stage on the festival’s closing night.

Though HAIM ‘s only European performance of 2023 feels all the more singular in celebrating a decade of Days Are Gone – fans queue up to sit on deck chairs and replicate its cover – the day also seems to honour Women In Music Pt III , with a female-heavy lineup including girl in red, Snail Mail , Avalon Emerson and Nell Mescal .

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ticketmaster UK (@ticketmasteruk)

Closing off a weekend of thunder and heavy rain – Stormzy launched this year’s All Points East and so the storms remained – HAIM’s Bank Holiday Monday is blessed with a late summer glow, with many performances basking in the golden hour euphoria that every festival needs. Joesef’s rendition of Sister Sledge’s ‘Thinking Of You’, followed by one of 2023’s biggest earworms, ‘Joe’, makes the most of this moment. While over on the main stage girl in red’s ‘we fell in love in october’ feels less gloomy and more shimmering.

Those making the most of the sun, however, would miss the joys of the big top tent, which provides an early evening of music straight out of the Ibiza club classic songbook in the form of Romy and Confidence Man. The XX singer’s solo project illuminates the shadows with blinding club lights on the anthemic ‘Strong’ and ‘The Sea’, while the Australian duo reel off dark, pulsing house bangers with synchronised dancing and a pointy LED bra like some kind of robo-Madonna.

haim european tour 2023

But for the headline act, walking on to Fergie’s ‘London Bridge’, it was HAIM as we know them: instrument swapping and bolstering blood harmonies. Opener ‘Now I’m In It’ is a reminder of the band’s pop crossover, having just opened for Taylor Swift ‘s US Eras tour. That doesn’t stop them amping up the hard rock feel of deep cut ‘My Song 5’ or summoning the spirit of Stevie Nicks on ‘Honey & I’.

The sister’s are clearly buzzing, with Este calling for the house lights to see the 40,000 in attenance and Alana frequently swearing and apologising to their parents who are here tonight. Danielle keeps it characteristically cool.

Their speeches are clearly thought out, as Este neatly segues from Hackney after party locations to the wonky ‘3AM,’ though they’re also down to earth and believable, an extension of HAIM’s inherent appeal. But as the blasts of “Right!” bounce back at them in an encore performance of ‘The Wire’, it’s clear that 10 years on, back in their spiritual home, their cathartic value soars far beyond just their relatability.

Haim latest act confirmed to headline All Points East 2023

Haim are headlining Luno presents All Points East 2023.

The pop trio - comprising siblings Alana, Este and Danielle Haim - will top the bill on Bank Holiday Monday August 28, in what marks their only European gig of the year.

It's the 'Want You Back' group's first time playing the festival at London's Victoria Park.

They'll be supported by the likes of Girl In Red, Confidence Man, Lizzy McAlpine, Tove Lo, Joesef, Snail Mail, Romy (The xx).

New York indie legends The Strokes - who performed their first UK show in four years at the festival in 2019 - will return to top the bill on August 25.

Support comes from their peers Yeah Yeah Yeahs, plus the likes of Girl in Red, Amyl and The Sniffers, Angel Olsen, and black midi.

The multi-day event will also see a headline performance from London's finest, Stormzy.

The rapper has curated the bill on August 18 to celebrate the release of his acclaimed 2022 LP, 'This Is What I Mean'.

In a video shared on Twitter, he said: "I was thinking what’s next, cos we’ve done three O2s, shut that down. I said to the team, we gotta do something bigger, something better, something different.

"We were having back-to-back meetings, bouncing ideas. Then it hit me, I started jotting down ideas thinking – live band, need a live band.

"August 2023, a summertime thing, outside, for the people, always for my people. So August 2023, Victoria Park, more info coming soon… This Is What We Mean Day. Hard.”

Tickets for Haim go on general sale on Friday 10 March from 10am GMT via www.allpointseastfestival.com.

Haim have just been announced as the latest headliners for the All Points East festival in London.

The festival, which has multiple-day options spread over several different days in August, has already announced previous headliners, including The Strokes and Stormzy .

Haim will play the Victoria Park day festival in East London on the bank holiday Monday (28 June) alongside acts such as Girl In Red and Confidence Man .

The three sisters announced the news in an Instagram video showing them doing a dance in matching dressing gowns, saying, “Oh s***”.

This will be the band’s only European performance this year. The band last played in the UK in 2022 as part of their world tour – and also played the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury Festival.

Richard Osman, Rylan and other celebrities react as Eurovision tickets sell out in half an hour

Other acts playing the 40,000-capacity festival include Joesef, Lizzy McAlpine, Snail Mail, Romy (The xx), Tove Lo, Avalon Emerson, Avalon Emerson & The Charm , Tamino, Nieve Ella, Mae Stephens , Nell Mescal and Gigi.

The lineup is inclusive of many female and LGBTQ+ acts – a welcome change following recent controversy surrounding the lack of industry diversity.

Last week, Glastonbury announced their lineup and included no female headliners, with a caveat about the “pipeline” problems in booking non-male acts.

Earlier this year, the Brit awards came under fire after their Artist of the Year category included no women.

How to get tickets:

Tickets to see Haim on 28 August at All Points East will be available on Friday 10 March.

According to the festival, American Express cardholders get early access to Amex Presale, which begins at 9am on Friday 10 March.

General sale tickets will be available at 10am on Friday 10 March.

HAIM Is Back in the Studio for Album Four

Alli Patton

Updated:

The sister pop-rock trio HAIM is teasing their return to the studio on social media. Their fourth album could be coming sooner rather than later.

Videos by American Songwriter

In a recent TikTok from the family ensemble , Este and Danielle Haim can be seen tugging their sister, Alana, through a doorway as she resists. “Please I’m a star,” she says through a lip-synced soundbite. The text over the footage reads, “When your sisters are making you get back in the studio but you were born to be an Oscar award-winning actress.”

The text presumably refers to Alana’s starring role in the 2021 critically acclaimed film, Licorice Pizza , which received three Oscar nominations.

The TikTok is simply captioned, “Haim4.” Check out the clip below.

@haimtheband Haim4 ♬ original sound – A24

A new album would mark HAIM’s first since the release of their 2020 LP, Women in Music Pt III . It followed their 2017 sophomore release, Something To Tell You , and their 2013 debut, Days Are Gone .

Despite all being featured in Licorice Pizza in 2021, HAIM’s 2022 was arguably their biggest year to date. Last year saw the trio embark on an extensive headlining summer tour , appear in a Taylor Swift music video , and get recruited for the Midnights star’s upcoming The Eras tour.

HAIM will be included on select dates of Swift’s tour. Other stars enlisted for support on the trek include Paramore, GAYLE, Phoebe Bridgers, beabadoobee, Gracie Abrams, and many more.

Last year also bore witness to the group receiving lofty praise from famed rapper Drake when he called the trio “the Beatles” on Instagram . Drake posted a photo of him with the Sisters HAIM from their first meeting. He captioned the photo of the four of them, “Just met the Beatles.” In response, the L.A. siblings shared the same photo captioned, “We’re the Beatles.” See their post below.

Haim in Chanel

HAIM released their critically acclaimed third album Women in Music Pt. III in 2020, but were unable to tour it due to the coronavirus pandemic. But after two years of patience, Este, Danielle and Alana Haim revealed on Monday (Dec. 6) they’ll be headed on the road in 2022 with a hilarious announcement video posted to their Twitter.

Danielle and Este are seeing hanging out and doing an expertly choreographed dance in an empty venue to “This Is What Dreams Are Made Of” from The Lizzie McGuire Movie soundtrack. As the two eldest sisters conclude their dance, Alana storms into the camera’s view, wearing Lizzie McGuire’s hilarious igloo-printed dress and curses out her sisters for excluding her. “What the f–k?” she asks them, pretending to be upset. “WE’RE GOING ON TOUR! this is what dreams are made of,” the women captioned the video.

Chappell Roan’s New Apology For Canceling Her European Shows Last-Minute Is Being Labeled 'Weak' And 'Passive Aggressive'

haim european tour 2023

Roan wrote online, “Due to scheduling conflicts, I have had to make the extremely hard decision to cancel my Paris and Amsterdam shows. I have rescheduled my Berlin show to 23 September. I am so sorry & very disappointed :( I promise I will be back. I’m heartbroken 💔 thank you for understanding.”

haim european tour 2023

Roan's sudden cancellation of her shows also sparked unverified speculation that she’d instead chosen to attend rehearsals for the MTV Video Music Awards, which she will be performing at next week.

haim european tour 2023

“Pretending like everything is normal after fucking over thousands of your fans is so cool!” one comment read. “Are you joking? You’re not going to address what you’ve done?… People were literally on their way across countries to watch you,” said another.

haim european tour 2023

“It’s a weak ass apology and would have been better if it was more professionally worded imo,” someone else said.

“If I had thousands of dollars spent on flights etc, and my fav came out saying ‘I’ll be back xoxo’ like some gossip girl revival, you best believe I’m never paying for a ticket to their show again,” one user wrote.

“‘I explained’… ‘scheduling conflicts’ is hardly an explanation on why you’ve cancelled shows at the last minute, leaving people unable to get refunds on their travels and accommodation, when there had been rumours of a cancellation for weeks,” one more person said.
