Are there COVID-19 restrictions for U.S. tourists?

Although the U.S. State Department encourages American travelers to get the COVID-19 vaccine, Bali’s government has no COVID-related restrictions for U.S. tourists. Indonesia  stopped requiring proof of vaccination  on June 9, 2023.

Do I need a visa or passport to travel to Bali?

Yes. You need a valid U.S. passport with at least two blank pages for your entry stamp. Your passport must be valid for  at least six months  following your scheduled arrival date.

You also need to obtain a visa from Indonesia’s  e-Visa system  before your trip. Indonesia offers single-entry visas as well as multi-trip visas. The cost of a visa depends on the length of your stay and the reason you plan to visit Bali. For example, it costs IDR 1,500,000 (around $96) to purchase a single-entry tourist visa for stays lasting no more than 60 days.

Is it safe to visit Bali?

Bali is relatively safe, but it does have an increased risk of natural disasters due to its location in the Lesser Sunda Islands. There’s also some risk of terrorist activity in Bali and other parts of Indonesia. Protect yourself by taking common-sense precautions during your trip.

Risk of volcanic eruptions and natural disasters

Indonesia is located in the Ring of Fire, a belt of earthquakes and volcanoes surrounding much of the Pacific Ocean. Therefore, there’s a high risk of volcanic eruption. Some insurance companies classify volcanic eruptions as foreseen events, which means they won’t cover trip cancellations or interruptions due to volcanic activity. Other firms treat them as unforeseen events.

Risk from sporting activities

Bali is home to Mount Batur, West Bali National Park and other points of interest. If you decide to go trekking, try SCUBA diving or participate in other adventure activities, you’ll need a comprehensive travel insurance policy to protect you. Depending on the type of policy you buy, your insurer may reimburse you for unforeseen medical expenses, medical evacuation costs and other expenses associated with adventure sports.

Note that most standard insurance plans don’t include this type of coverage. If you want coverage for risky activities, you’ll need to add it to your Bali travel insurance policy.

Risk of a driving accident

Bali doesn’t have a strong public transportation system, so many people use motorbikes and mopeds to get around. When you ride a motorbike or a moped, you don’t have the body of a vehicle around you for extra protection. Therefore, you may sustain serious injuries if you’re involved in an accident.

The risk of accidents is also higher for motorbikes and mopeds than it is for standard cars and trucks, especially if you ride with someone who darts around traffic or drives at a high rate of speed. A comprehensive travel insurance plan covers medical expenses and other costs arising from this type of accident.

Depending on what type of travel insurance policy you buy, your plan may cover the following situations.

Trip cancellation insurance

Trip cancellation coverage reimburses your prepaid, nonrefundable expenses in the event you have to cancel your trip for a covered reason. For example, if you come down with a serious illness before your departure date, you may qualify for reimbursement of up to 100% of your prepaid costs.

This type of insurance only covers unforeseen events, which are things that happen suddenly and unexpectedly. For example, if you book your trip after a named storm has already developed near Bali, you won’t be able to get your money back if the storm forces you to cancel your trip. Severe illness, job loss and the death of an immediate family member are all examples of unforeseen events covered by trip cancellation policies.

Some companies also offer cancel-for-any-reason insurance , commonly abbreviated CFAR. This type of insurance allows you to get your money back if you have to cancel for a reason that isn’t covered by your standard travel insurance plan.

Assume your travel companion decides they want to go to Bora Bora instead of Bali. That’s not a good enough reason to cancel under a standard plan, but you can get your prepaid, nonrefundable expenses back if you paid for CFAR coverage.

Trip delay insurance

During your trip, you’ll probably use at least one common carrier, which is a company that provides transportation services to the public. This includes commercial airlines, railroads, cruise lines and bus companies.

If you’re delayed due to a problem with one of these carriers, your travel insurance will reimburse you for any expenses arising from the delay . For example, if an airline cancels your flight, causing you to arrive in Indonesia a day later than planned, your insurance company may reimburse you for the money you spent on meals and toiletries related to the delay.

Trip interruption insurance

Sometimes you depart on time and have to end your trip early due to unforeseen circumstances. This is why you need trip interruption insurance. This type of coverage reimburses you for expenses associated with a covered event . Imagine that you’re hiking through the Indonesian wilderness. Suddenly, you fall from a great height, breaking both legs. You won’t be able to continue your trip as planned, the perfect time to use your trip interruption benefits.

Your insurance company may also cover your repatriation costs, which are the costs associated with returning to your home country. For example, if you have to change your flight, a last-minute ticket may cost $500 or $1,000 more than you already spent. Trip interruption insurance covers these expenses.

Travel medical insurance

U.S. health insurance generally doesn’t cover medical emergencies that occur overseas . Travel medical insurance covers expenses arising from unexpected illness and injuries, ensuring that you don’t leave Bali with a huge hospital bill. For example, if you get into a motorbike accident, you may have to spend several days in a medical facility. Travel insurance will cover your room and board, nursing care, lab tests, X-rays and other healthcare services.

Medical evacuation insurance

Some areas of Indonesia are rather remote. If you’re exploring some of Bali’s hidden caves, for example, there’s a chance you’ll fall and injure yourself. Unfortunately, the closest hospital may be 50 miles away . Medical evacuation insurance covers the cost of transporting you to the nearest medical facility equipped to treat you.

Insurance for personal items

Personal item coverage, also known as baggage and personal effects insurance, protects you in the event your personal items are stolen or damaged while you’re traveling. For example, if an airline employee damages your camera, you may be able to get reimbursed by your insurance provider.

Rental car coverage

Rental car coverage protects you any time you’re using a covered vehicle. Due to poor lighting, Bali’s streets are rather difficult to navigate at night. You may also encounter drivers who refuse to follow local traffic laws.

If you’re in an accident, or if someone vandalizes or steals your rental vehicle, your insurance company will reimburse the rental car agency . The reimbursement is usually limited to the cost of repairs or the value of the vehicle. Note that your travel insurance policy may exclude some vehicle makes and models.

Standard travel insurance doesn’t cover the following:

  • Pre-existing medical conditions: If you’re diagnosed with or have symptoms of a health condition before you book your trip, you have what’s known as a pre-existing condition . A standard travel insurance policy won’t cover any expenses arising from this type of condition. However, you may be able to purchase a pre-existing condition waiver.
  • Foreseeable events: Travel insurance doesn’t cover events that a reasonable person could have predicted.
  • Bad weather: You may not want to sit on the beach while it’s raining, but bad weather isn’t covered unless it results in some type of unforeseeable event.
  • Normal pregnancy: If you get pregnant after you purchase your travel insurance policy, your travel insurance won’t cover routine pregnancy expenses . However, it may cover medical expenses arising from an unforeseen pregnancy complication.
  • Illegal activities: Travel insurance doesn’t cover expenses arising from illegal drug use or other criminal activities.

Based on our research, the cheapest travel insurance for Bali costs just under $1 per day for basic coverage. Alternatively, we found that a more comprehensive policy will cost around $7 to $11 per day.

To help give you a better idea of how much travel insurance costs for Bali, used our online comparison tool to get quotes from different providers.

We applied this information to our quotes:

  • Age: 35 years old
  • Destination: Indonesia
  • Trip Length: 7 days
  • Trip cost: $2,000

The table below shows quotes for basic travel insurance from four different providers. These plans range from less than $1 per day to $6 per day .

Example Where Plan Doesn’t Reimburse the Full Trip Cost

The next table shows quotes from the same four providers. However, these plans are more comprehensive. They include trip cancellation and trip interruption coverage. We found these plans cost between $7 and $11 per day .

Example Where Plan Does Reimburse the Full Trip Cost

Keep in mind that several factors affect the cost of Bali travel insurance, including:

  • The total cost of your trip
  • The duration of your trip
  • What type of coverage you buy

To get the best travel insurance for your needs, consider the following factors:

Transportation method.

If you plan to stay at a resort all week, you may not need to pay for rental car coverage. However, you may need extra insurance if your trip includes multiple common carriers.

Travel preferences.

If you love to climb mountains, explore caves and hike difficult trails, you’ll probably need more insurance than someone who plans to lounge on the beach for their entire vacation.

Date of purchase.

Travel insurance typically costs more if you wait until the last minute to purchase it. To save money, consider purchasing a policy as soon as you finalize your plans.

Is travel insurance mandatory for Indonesia in 2024?

No. You’re not required to purchase travel insurance before you travel to Indonesia.

What documents are required for Bali travel?

To travel to Bali and other parts of Indonesia, you must have a valid U.S. passport and a visa.

Does Bali require COVID insurance?

No. Bali ended the last of its COVID-related restrictions in mid-2023. However, it is still a good idea to make sure you purchase  travel insurance with covid coverage .

Best Travel Insurance for Bali: leave with a free spirit

To travel with a free spirit, there is one element that should not be overlooked: you need a travel insurance. Your health is precious and must be the subject of all attention (repatriation or emergency medical evacuation, coverage of health costs). We will give you the some options of best travel insurance for Bali.

Bali is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, known for its beautiful beaches, vibrant culture, and stunning landscapes. However, traveling to Bali comes with its own set of risks, such as medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and lost luggage. This is where travel insurance comes in handy. In this article, we will provide a comprehensive guide to the best travel insurance for Bali, suitable for visitors from all over the world.

When it comes to Bali, it’s essential to choose a travel insurance policy that covers medical emergencies. Bali’s healthcare system is not as advanced as some Western countries, and medical expenses can quickly add up. Additionally, Bali is prone to natural disasters such as earthquakes, which can disrupt travel plans.

Several important factors to consider when looking for travel insurance for Bali

When choosing travel insurance for Bali, there are a few things you should keep in mind:

1. Medical Coverage

Bali is a popular travel destination, but medical emergencies can happen. Look for a travel insurance policy that provides comprehensive medical coverage, including coverage for emergency medical treatment, hospitalization, and medical evacuation if necessary.

2. Trip Cancellation and Interruption

It’s important to be prepared for unexpected events that may cause you to cancel or interrupt your trip. Look for a policy that provides coverage for trip cancellation or interruption due to unforeseen events such as illness, injury, or natural disasters .

3. Personal Belongings Coverage

Theft and loss of personal belongings can occur during travel. Look for a policy that offers coverage for lost, stolen or damaged baggage and personal items.

4. Adventure Activities

Bali offers many adventure activities such as surfing, scuba diving, and trekking. If you plan on participating in any adventure activities, make sure your travel insurance policy covers them. 5. 24/7 Assistance

Look for a policy that offers 24/7 assistance services such as emergency medical assistance and travel assistance.

6. Policy Exclusions

Make sure to review the policy exclusions, including any pre-existing conditions, to ensure that you have the necessary coverage and are not caught off guard.

For visitors to Bali who plan to rent a scooter or motorbike , it’s important to find a travel insurance provider that offers coverage for these activities.

Travel insurance prices can vary widely depending on the provider and the level of coverage you choose. Compare prices and features from multiple providers to find a policy that fits your needs and budget.

Disclaimer: The prices listed in this article are subject to change and may not be accurate at the time of reading. Please refer to the insurance providers’ websites for the latest pricing information. It is important to carefully review the policy details before purchasing travel insurance to ensure it meets your specific needs.

Good to know

When visiting a public hospital in Bali, remember to bring some Indonesian rupiah money with you. The reason you need to do this is because some do not accept payments through a cashless service.

The disadvantage of public hospitals is a fairly limited service compared to private health facilities, but the bill will be lower. In addition, private hospitals also accept payment methods other than cash.

Medical costs in Bali can be very expensive if you are not covered in the event of an accident or a health problem.

What if you have a dental problem in Bali?

Most of dentists in Bali are fluent in English. Some of them have even been trained abroad. However if you have an emergency, it’s like being in Australia, Europe or the U.S. without a good insurance, your credit card will quickly heat up.

All these reasons demonstrate the importance of being insured for your stay in Bali.

Here is a table that compares different travel insurance plans for visitors and travelers to Bali

The cost of travel insurance can vary based on several factors such as the length of your trip, your age, and the coverage limits you select. These costs are just examples for a 1-week trip for a 30-year-old traveler.

The travel insurances listed below are very popular among travellers. However, only your criteria allow you to know which one is the most suitable for your needs.

Travel insurance is an essential investment for any trip, especially to a destination like Bali where unexpected events can happen. Visitors and travelers should carefully consider their needs and the risks associated with their travel plans when selecting a travel insurance plan. By doing so, they can ensure they are protected and can enjoy their trip with peace of mind.

When traveling abroad, get a policy from one of the  best travel insurance companies . Y ou can get a  5% discount   on Heymondo , the only insurance that pays medical bills upfront for you, HERE!

Buying travel insurance for Bali should be one of the first things you do before you jet off to this fantastic destination. After all, you never know when a vacation will be interrupted by a broken leg, lost luggage, or a flight delay. Having Indonesia travel insurance , or insurance for travel to Bali specifically, means you won’t be stuck with tons of extra fees if something unexpected happens.

Best Travel Insurance for Bali – Price & Requirements

When we went to Bali, we purchased Heymondo travel insurance before our trip. As it turned out, this was a very smart decision since I ended up needing medical treatment during the trip. Even if nothing had gone wrong, though, travel insurance for Bali was worth having just for the peace of mind it gave us.

5% OFF your travel insurance

Of course, to have the perfect trip, you’ll also need to decide what things you want to do in Bali and where to stay in Bali . In terms of Bali travel insurance , though, these are all the things you need to know:

Is travel insurance mandatory for Bali?

How much is travel insurance for Bali?

  • Best travel insurance for Bali

Ready to learn more about the best travel insurance for Bali ? Let’s get to it !

Travel insurance for Bali is not currently mandatory. Still, purchasing travel insurance that covers COVID-19 is always a smart idea.

Monkey in Bali, Monkey in Bali

After all, you never know when you’ll get sick or injured while you’re traveling. Plus, paying medical fees out of pocket can get incredibly expensive. On top of that, having insurance for travel to Bali will allow you to get reimbursed if you cancel a hotel reservation at the last minute, lose your luggage, or need to quarantine. It’s always better to buy travel insurance for Bali and not need it than to go without it and up paying tons of fees.

Bali travel insurance requirements

Even though travel insurance for Bali is not an entry requirement, there are still several types of coverage that you should have if you do decide to purchase insurance. COVID-19 coverage is absolutely imperative, as is emergency medical expense coverage, particularly since medical care can be costly. Evacuation and repatriation coverage, which covers return travel to your home country for medical treatment or because of political events, is also crucial.

As such, you should, at a minimum, purchase travel health insurance for Bali . If you’d prefer to have travel-related coverage as well, look for travel insurance with trip cancellation and baggage coverage .

The price of travel insurance for Bali will depend on your age and nationality, as well as the length and cost of your trip. To help you get an idea of how much insurance for travel to Bali costs , I used the example of a 30-year-old American spending a week in Bali with a trip cost of $2,500 to generate quotes.

*price used for example

Ultimately, all four of the Bali travel insurance plans I’ve compared have their merits. The best overall travel insurance for Bali , however, is Heymondo , especially since they pay travelers’ medical expenses directly and upfront. If you’d prefer to save money and just have medical-related coverage, SafetyWing is another excellent option, but bear in mind it has a deductible of $250 per claim .

1. Heymondo , the best travel insurance for Bali

If you want the best travel insurance for Bali , look no further than Heymondo . Not only does their Top plan offer a high amount of coverage in all categories, but it’s also the most affordable option with both travel- and medical-related coverage.

Heymondo, Bali travel insurance company

On top of that, Heymondo is the only Bali travel insurance company that pays for travelers’ medical expenses directly and upfront, saving you the hassle of filing a claim to get reimbursed. The convenience of this payment process as well as the company’s excellent customer service have enabled Heymondo to consistently rank as one of the best travel insurance companies .

Best of all, the Top plan includes a $0 deductible for medical expenses, so you won’t have to pay a single penny out of pocket for any medical fees.

Heymondo has several amazing benefits and very few downsides, which is why we have annual multi-trip insurance with this company. Since we’ll be taking a number of trips over the next year, this policy saves us a lot of money. You can learn more in our Heymondo review and save 5% on your plan with the promo code below.

2. SafetyWing , a cheap travel insurance for Bali

Saving money on travel insurance doesn’t have to mean poor coverage. Purchasing travel health insurance will ensure you get the medical coverage you need without the higher cost of covering travel-related expenses.

SafetyWing is by far the best health insurance for Bali travel option. Their Nomad Insurance plan offers great worldwide coverage in all medical-related categories, plus it’s the most affordable Bali travel insurance of all the plans I compared. You can even choose to automatically extend your plan every month if you want to keep traveling, so it’s ideal for digital nomads looking for long-term travel insurance .

SafetyWing, holiday insurance for Bali

The Nomad Insurance plan does offer some limited travel-related coverage for baggage loss and trip interruption, but this coverage is not as comprehensive as that of other travel insurance plans. Moreover, the plan’s $250 deductible means you’ll have to pay $250 towards any medical bills before SafetyWing covers the remaining balance.

As such, if you’d prefer a $0 deductible or want better travel-related coverage, Heymondo is your best bet.

3. World Nomads , the best holiday insurance for Bali for sporty travelers

If you’re planning a vacation full of adventurous activities, World Nomads is the perfect choice for holiday insurance for Bali . Their Standard plan covers tons of activities and sports, including surfing and snorkeling, two of the best things to do in Bali .

World Nomads, best travel insurance for Bali

You’ll also enjoy good coverage in all travel- and medical-related categories, as well as a $0 deductible for medical expenses. In terms of cost, however, the Standard plan is a little on the pricey side. After all, you can get a higher amount of coverage in all categories for a much lower price with Heymondo.

While World Nomads is one of the best cheap travel insurance companies , it’s only worth it if you’ll be doing a lot of sporty activities.

4. IMG , a reliable travel insurance for Bali, Indonesia

IMG is a well-respected travel insurance company that many travelers trust for their insurance needs. As such, it probably comes as no surprise that IMG’s iTravelInsured SE plan provides a solid amount of coverage in all categories, including trip cancellation insurance .

IMG, best Bali travel insurance

This travel insurance for Bali plan even includes Cancel for Work Reasons coverage and coverage for pre-existing conditions . There’s also a $0 deductible for medical expenses, so as long as your claim is approved, IMG will completely cover any medical bills incurred abroad.

One drawback, though, is that the iTravelInsured SE plan is the most expensive of all the plans I compared. As such, if you want similar or even better coverage for a lower price, go with Heymondo .

What travel insurance do I need for Bali?

Ultimately, travel insurance for Bali is not mandatory, but it’s still smart to purchase some kind of coverage. Take it from me: when I was visiting the Monkey Forest in Ubud, a monkey bit me! I then rushed to the nearest hospital, where I was quickly treated.

Balangan Beach, how much insurance for travel to Bali costs

Fortunately, I had purchased Heymondo holiday insurance for Bali before my trip, so I knew my medical expenses would be covered. When I saw the bill, though, I was especially relieved I had travel insurance – that medical treatment was not cheap! Save yourself the stress of going through an experience like mine without travel insurance by purchasing coverage before you travel.

Any of the Bali travel insurance options above will provide great coverage, but the standout is Heymondo , which offers excellent travel- and medical-related coverage for an affordable price.

On the other hand, if you want to save money, SafetyWing ’s travel health insurance for Bali is the most affordable option.

Either way, these essentials will help you plan your trip to Bali :

Hello, am I able to get this cover while in Bali, i usually get travel insurance prior to leaving but apparently if i dont have return ticket (which I don’t as i have the 180 days option) they would offer the 90 days free (my bank) only found this out on the day I was leaving so wasn’t planned. Now in bali and just want to make sure my son and I can get some cover soonest. Thanks in advance, Bron

Hi Bron, Some travel insurance companies let you buy a policy even if you’re already abroad. For example, Heymondo can get you covered for your Bali trip. Good luck!

Hello Ascen, a group of family are travelling to Bali next year, we have heard that there are some insurance companies that will not cover you if you ANY alcohol in your system. As there will drinking on our trip we are concerned. Would you know if this will apply to any of the above mentioned Insurance companies?

Warmest regards,

Hi Zena, Most insurance companies won’t cover any injuries or incidents that result from having a blood alcohol level above the legal limit. If you’re socially drinking, you should be okay, and you can still purchase a travel insurance policy for Bali.

Hello . Are there any insurance that cover for driving a scooter in Bali ? (- If not having a motorcycle licence- only a UK driving licence for a car and IDl for car) . ?

Would i be covered for medical cost s if I went as a passanger on the official Gojet? Taxi scooters? Thank you

Hi Eva, Yes, but the extent of the coverage really does depend on which company and policy you go with. I would double-check before purchasing.

Guide To Bali Travel Insurance – ALL You Need To Know

Island of the Gods, heaven on Earth for surfers, and a treasure trove of natural wonders. Bali is, quite rightly, one of the most popular destinations in the world. Dripping in spirituality (those 20,000 temples help), the island is also a playground for adrenaline junkies. Oh, and Bali also knows how to put on a damn good party.

It is one of the few places in the world where shoestring backpackers, digital nomads, and luxury honeymooners coexist alongside one another. There is a little something for absolutely everybody and it’s also a great location to kickstart your travels around SE Asia.

Your head is probably spinning thinking about all the awesome things you can do in Bali. We bet you can’t wait to get out there. But, before you do, today’s topic will really break you out in a sweat. This one’s all about travel insurance in Bali!

Buying travel insurance is a hindrance we would  all rather avoid. With these helpful tips and tricks, you can know which insurance company is best for you and your travels, and what kind of policy you need.

axa travel insurance bali

Month to month payments, no lock-in contracts, and no itineraries required: that’s the exact kind of insurance digital nomads and long-term traveller types need. Cover yo’ pretty little self while you live the DREAM!

Do I Need Travel Insurance For Bali?

What should travel insurance in bali cover, what is the best bali travel insurance, how to choose the right bali travel insurance for you, final thoughts on bali travel insurance.

Low aerial view of a Hindu temple by a blue lake.

As with the rest of Indonesia, travel insurance for Bali is not mandatory. Immigration won’t send you away if you rock up at Bali Ngurah Rai International without it. But all travellers to Bali should put some serious thought into covering themselves with a decent insurance policy.

First up, there is a fair amount of danger lurking beneath those swoon-worthy palm trees. We’re talking about volcanic activity and tsunamis, tropical diseases and rogue monkeys who don’t take too kindly to you not surrendering your jungle trail mix. And then there are the bike crashes – you may be the most competent motorcyclist out there, but all it takes is one drunken tourist on your side of the road to throw a spanner in the works.

It won’t take you long to suss out that Balinese people are among some of the warmest, friendliest and purest in the world. But sadly, theft and petty crimes are common, even in Bali! It’s also worth noting that not all Bali police will help you if you get your bag swiped.

We encourage all travellers to at least consider taking out some travel insurance in Bali. At the end of the day, you just never know what might happen in those rice paddies!

Need more convincing? Check out these other reasons why you should have travel insurance!

Psssst…. Searching for your Tribe?

Tribal Hostel – Bali’s first purpose-built co-working hostel and perhaps the greatest hostel in the world!

An ideal hub for Digital Nomads and backpackers, this very special hostel is now finally open…

Come on down and enjoy amazing coffee, high-speed wifi and a game of pool 😉

Healthcare in Bali

As tourism has mushroomed, the boost on the economy and infrastructure in Bali has bolstered the healthcare system. Tourists will find many private hospitals with state of the art, international-standard facilities. Most of the doctors are fluent in English, or at least have a strong command of the language. Geographically, the lion’s share of Bali’s premium healthcare is in the south of the island – tourist central. Kuta, Denpasar and Seminyak are where you will find the majority of the large hospitals. Ubud, a popular Bali destination, also is medically well-equipped.

The cost of seeing a doctor in Bali for minor injuries and medical complaints is low in comparison to Western prices. For a consultation with a doctor at a local clinic, you can expect to pay in the region of 500,000+ IDR ($31 USD). Further tests, laboratory costs, treatment fees, and prescription costs will be added to the bill. Expect rates to be higher at tourist-facing hospitals such as BIMC and Siloam . Ultimately, if you require emergency treatment in Bali, medical attention is going to get pricey without insurance or medical coverage.

Check out if your Bali travel insurance policy has a tie-in with a particular hospital or clinic whereby they can bill your insurance provider directly. Otherwise, keep your receipts to be reimbursed.

Crime in Bali

Bali is a peaceful island that is, on the whole, safe for tourists . The region ranked 133rd in a recent survey from Numbeo, with a criminality index of 47.66. Compare this to Caracas, which came top of the crime list with a score of 84.92!

While violent crime is low, sexual assaults and drink spiking are, sadly, all-too-common in Bali. Female travellers need to exercise much more caution, especially when walking alone, or even riding scooters.

The one thing Bali is notorious for is drive-by bag snatches. First-time visitors and digital nomads: you’re very likely to find yourself in the hippy-go-lucky Canggu . When heading out for a night on the Bintang, ensure you hide your money and smartphone! If partying is high on the agenda, all the more reason to consider travel insurance for Bali. Thieves prey on their victims as they leave beachside bars and target pedestrians as well as those driving their own wheels.

In a similar vein, never, ever, leave valuables in your Scoopy while you hit the surf. Lock them away at your hostel and keep essentials on your person. Consider adding valuables insurance to your coverage.

Scams are relatively common. There is a notorious ‘ taxi mafia ’ who block the usage of taxi apps Grab and Gojek (Indonesian Uber!). Tourists have reported ordering a ride and then seeing local drivers violently assault drivers. Basically, as far as crime goes in Bali, you just need to keep your wits about you.

Issues Facing Travellers in Bali

Besides falling in love and never wanting to leave, there are a few other issues facing travellers visiting Bali. These are where your fancy travel insurance can help you out. As a tropical, humid destination, you’re bound to run into Bali’s mosquitos bringing risk of dengue. In extreme cases, this requires a mini-break in a ward.

You’ve also got to stay clear of the monkeys, which can be particularly aggressive in Ubud. Don’t be fooled by those cute little faces!

Meanwhile, two active volcanoes bubble away in Bali – Mount Agung and Mount Batur. Agung is the one you need to keep an eye on; it’s made a few headlines over the past few years by spewing up lava. Indonesia is known for jolting its tourists with earthquakes on an ad hoc basis. Recently a 6.3 magnitude tremor earthquake was reported in Bali.

Both volcanoes and earthquakes can trigger tsunamis. Basically, what we are trying to say, when you are shopping around for the best travel insurance for Bali, you may want to tick that natural disaster box!

If you plan on hopping on a motorbike in Bali, this is where travel insurance is going to sound super sexy. Police reported that Indonesian motor accidents take around 30,000 lives per year! Back in 2015, a total of 1,492 traffic accidents across Bali occurred. More often than not, tourists are involved, and as Go Fund Me testifies, those tourists often don’t have an insurance plan.. Don’t be that person.

We can’t stress the value of travel insurance in Bali enough if you are planning on driving or riding pillion. Also, ensure that you have the correct license and double-check the small print – at least twice. And never ride without rocking a helmet.

Common Activities in Bali

  • Surfing – This small island is packed with awesome things to do ! First and foremost, Bali is a surfer’s island. It goes without saying that surfing carries its fair share of risks – and we’re not just referring to how addictive it is. Keeping the watery theme going, Bali is popular with divers and snorkellers. Scuba diving is usually insured to a certain depth, but you’ll need to check the terms on your travel insurance for clarity.
  • Yoga – Another popular holiday activity for Bali is ducking into a yoga retreat. You can barely walk through the island for the number of downward dogs and warriors – kinda . Obviously, a yoga holiday in Bali  isn’t too high risk, but if you get a bit too eager with that backbend, well, you might want some cover.
  • Driving a motorbike is ubiquitous in Bali. If we didn’t terrify you in the previous passage, it’s something you’ll definitely want to look into. There’s no better way to discover this little slice of tropical heaven (and dodge the selfie sticks).

Not all companies will cover these activities by default, so do browse with care and remember that the cheapest Bali travel insurance might not offer the best protection.

packable travel medical kit

Things go wrong on the road ALL THE TIME. Be prepared for what life throws at you.

Buy an AMK Travel Medical Kit before you head out on your next adventure – don’t be daft!

Final thoughts on the safety of Bali

As a rule, most travel insurance for Bali will include the following;

Emergency Accident & Sickness Medical Expenses

Baggage and personal property.

  • Emergency Evacuation and Repatriation

Non-Medical Emergency Evacuation

Trip cancellation, trip interruption.

These are key terms to look out for when comparing insurance policies.

Let’s take a closer look at what each one of these actually means.

The headline for most travel insurance policies is emergency medical costs. If you are in a car crash or come down with meningitis, you want to rest easy knowing that any ensuing medical costs will be taken care of.

In case you have never seen a medical bill, let us assure you that they CAN be expensive. A member of our team once racked up costs of $10,000 in Costa Rica and then a nasty infection in Thailand cost him $2,000.00 for just 2 days in the hospital. Ouch.

Pre-existing medical and health conditions may not be covered or may come at an additional premium.

Ideally, Emergency Accident & Sickness Medical insurance should offer at least $100,000.00 of coverage.

Baggage and Personal Stuff coverage covers the value of your personal property. It’s most common application is for lost luggage and many policies also extend this to cover “on the ground” theft.

The limits on this vary between policies but rarely exceed $1000 with a maximum item value between usually up to $500.

This is fine for many travellers but if you travel with a lot of electrical gear (laptop & camera), you may also wish to think about taking out a separate gadget cover.

We’ve tested countless backpacks over the years, but there’s one that has always been the best and remains the best buy for adventurers: the broke backpacker-approved Osprey Aether and Ariel series.

Want more deetz on why these packs are so  damn perfect? Then read our comprehensive review for the inside scoop!

Emergency MedicalEvacuation and Repatriation

Emergency medical evacuation covers the cost of sending you back to your home country in a sickbed. Let’s say that the above-mentioned car crash is a nasty one and the decision is taken to send you home for further treatment; this will take care of the high, associated costs.

Repatriation is the cost of sending your earthly remains home in the tragic event you die overseas. The costs of this are generally huge, and it is not a burden I would want to leave to my family. Whilst this is rare, every now and then I do come across a Facebook or “Go Fund Me” page for somebody’s body to be flown home.

Non-medical Emergency Evacuation is when you have to be evacuated from your destination because of some unexpected crisis. Classic examples are outbreaks of war/civil unrest and earthquakes that decimate infrastructure. In recent times, the Corona COVID-19 outbreak created the biggest international emergency evacuation situation ever. (FYI – it straddled both the medical and non-medical evacuation boundaries).

Emergency evac insurance covers the costs of having to book a last-minute flight ( which can be expensive) and will also cover accommodation costs if you end up being flown to a random, “safe” country rather than going straight home.

Being forced to cancel a trip you were looking forward to sucks. But being left out of pocket just rubs salt into that festering wound. Trip Cancellation cover can help you recover non-refundable costs such as booked flights and hotel costs.

Note that you can’t claim under this simply because you changed your mind or broke up with your boyfriend. Acceptable cancellation reasons are things like sickness, family emergencies, bereavement, natural disaster, pandemics and war – you get the gist.

Trip Interruption is when something goes wrong with a part of your trip leaving you out of pocket. For example, when your hotel burns down and you are forced to book another one. Or when your flight home is canceled and you need a few extra nights at your hotel. These are just a few examples of when you may need to reply on trip interruption.

safety bali temples on the lake

Anything Else?

The above is what we consider to be the basic, bare-bones of travel insurance. However, some policies do offer a few more aspects and the best Bali travel insurances may also offer the following;

Adventure Sports and Activities

Note that some travel insurance options do not cover adventure sports and activities. The definition of adventure sports and activities does vary between providers but for example, can include;

  • Paragliding
  • Soccer practice….

If you are even considering doing anything physical or outdoorsy on your trip, it is wise to check that your insurance provider is covering it. Broken ankles hurt enough without having a $5k Doctors bill attached to them.

Accidental Death and Dismemberment

This one doesn’t cover any travel-related expenses but instead it basically provides you, or your family with some compensation in the event that something awful happens to you. If you die, your loved ones get a payout. Or, if you lose a finger or something, YOU get a payout.

It’s like having a bit of life cover attached to your travel insurance. I know that not everybody is altogether comfortable with the concept of pay-outs for life & limb – I guess it kind of goes something like this;

“Well dear, I’m afraid there is good new and bad news. The bad news is that our beloved son little Jimmy died on his trip to Bali. The good news is that we get $10k! Bali here WE come!”

Gear and Electronics Cover

Some insurance policies cover electronic gadgets, and some don’t. Those that do, may charge an additional fee, and they generally limit the maximum item value. If you only travel with a phone or tablet, your travel insurer may well cover it entirely. On the other hand, if you are traveling with a decent laptop then you may wish to consider obtaining gadget cover.

I have personally had gadget cover on my MacBook Pro for years.

A new country, a new contract, a new piece of plastic – booooring. Instead, buy an eSIM!

An eSIM works just like an app: you buy it, you download it, and BOOM! You’re connected the minute you land. It’s that easy.

tips to save money in Bali

It is fair to say that not all insurers are created equal. Some offer lower prices than others, and others offer more comprehensive cover. Some are notorious for shirking cover, whilst others are applauded for their excellent customer service .

Travel insurers are all the same yet always different, and it is absolutely not the case that anyone of them is the best, or is “better” than the others. Insurance is a complex product which takes into account a whole lot of data and a wide set of variables. The “best” travel insurance always depends on where you are going, when you are going there and ultimately upon you and your needs.

Below, we will introduce a few of the many travel insurance providers on offer. These are firms we have used ourselves over the years.

SafetyWing is a very interesting travel insurance company. They specialise in covering digital nomads and offer open-ended cover on a monthly subscription basis. Note that because they are primarily covering digital nomads, they don’t offer much in the way of trip cancellation or delay.

They do however excel on health insurance, covering dental and some complimentary treatments, and they even allow young children to be covered for free. If cancellation and delay is not a concern for you, or you will be spending some considerable time on your trip, then maybe SafetyWing are right for you.

  • Emergency Accident & Sickness Medical Expenses – $250,000
  • Baggage and Personal Property – $3000

What truly sets them apart is their assistance app offering a 24-hour medical chat, free emergency assistance calls and incident management. How reassuring is that?! They also have a convenient and complication-free way to make a claim straight from your phone.

Medical expenses are covered up to $10,000,000 USD so try not to damage yourself anything over that amount… If you’d like travel insurance that operates with that little extra swiftness and ease, give these guys a go. World Nomads provides travel insurance for travelers in over 100 countries. As an affiliate, we receive a fee when you get a quote from World Nomads using this link. We do not represent World Nomads. This is information only and not a recommendation to buy travel insurance.

Columbus Direct

Named after one of history’s greatest (and most divisive explorers), Columbus Direct also specialise in insuring adventure-hungry explorers like us. They have been providing award-winning insurance for 30 years. What we like about this plan is that it does cover small amounts of personal cash. However, Gadget Cover is not available.

Columbus Direct actually offers a number of different travel insurance plans. Below we have focused on 1 of these, and have set out the coverage amounts for the Globetrotter plan.

  • Emergency Accident & Sickness Medical Expenses – $1,000,000
  • Baggage and Personal Property – $750
  • Emergency Evacuation and Repatriation – $1,000,000
  • Non-Medical Emergency Evacuation – $0
  • Trip Cancellation -$1,000
  • Trip Interruption  (“Catastrophe”) – $750

Iati Seguros

Iati Seguros is a Spanish based travel insurance company who we have personally used and loved. You will notice that they provide competitive cover amounts for the key travel insurance areas, and are competitively priced. So far we have heard nothing but good things about them.

They also offer multiple options, but we have focused on the Standard Plan. Although, we wholly encourage checking out all plans for yourself to identify the best one for your needs.

  • Emergency Accident & Sickness Medical Expenses – $200,000
  • Baggage and Personal Property – $1000
  • Emergency Evacuation and Repatriation – 100% of cost
  • Trip Cancellation -$1,500
  • Trip Interruption  – 100% of cost

Insure My Equipment

Insuremyequipment.com is an online insurer for expensive equipment (like camera gear). You can get specific pieces of gear insured so you know exactly what will be covered. Note that this policy is for your gear only!

An Insure My Equipment policy works well in combination with other travel insurance. Insure My Equipment policies are an excellent choice for professionals and backpackers with more than $3000-$4000 worth of camera equipment or expensive laptops.

Bali in Summer

Choosing the right travel insurance for your Bali holiday is like choosing underwear, only you know what feels good. You need to work out how much your trip is worth, how much equipment you plan to take and what activities you intend to engage in.

And of course, you need to ask yourself how much can you afford – how much you can afford to pay for cover, and how much you can afford to be out of pocket in the unlikely event of a claim.

Sometimes, the cheapest Bali travel insurance will be enough, and sometimes it will be worth spending a bit more. Hopefully, the information provided in this post will help you to decide – if not, then I just wasted 5 hours of my life in writing it!

Buying Bali travel insurance might seem like a daunting process. Or just boring.

However, by the end of this article, you will know exactly which why insurance for Bali is so important, what policy inclusions you need and where to get Bali travel insurance sorted in a few clicks.

Bali travel insurance is an essential part of your trip (like that other essential, the Bali Visa ) as it will protect you from hideous expenses and give you the peace of mind of a team of people who are behind you should an emergency arise.

Will you need it?

A study by the Australian Government's Smartraveller found that 1 in 4 travellers claimed on their travel insurance in the 2018-19 year (before COVID stopped travel) - that's over 300,000 claims and 90% were paid out. Wow.

Bali Travel Tips

Protecting Your Digital Identity in Bali

Do we benefit by telling you that you need Bali travel insurance?

If you go to Bali without travel insurance you are being a monkey!

Bali without insurance? Monkey business!

We are not recommending you get travel insurance just because we might benefit if you support our work by following a link in this article (but thank you!).

All the consumer and government advice worldwide agrees that everyone going overseas to a place like Bali should consider travel insurance a must-have , and you can get it from your travel agent, online, or through your airline (the most expensive ways), or you can go online or use our recommendation (and that helps us create more content).

For anyone who has had an accident on the island of the gods, or fallen ill, the lack of Bali travel insurance can be truly devastating. And the truth is, medical care on the islands is expensive, and if the illness is serious, they simply don't have the facilities to care for you there, and you will need to be evacuated, and the bill for that will be astronomical.

Best things to do in Bali: The Epic Experiences List for 2024!

Is travel insurance mandatory for Bali and Lombok?

Does Bali travel insurance cover riding motorcycle? It depends...

No jacket, short pants, just flip flops? We hope he has travel insurance.

It is not mandatory to have travel insurance to enter Indonesia, including Bali and Lombok.

However, it is highly recommended to purchase travel insurance when travelling through the country as a medical expense bill can be devastating :

- A small injury involving a few stitches could easily cost you $2,000.

- A medivac from Bali to Australia can cost between $30,000 and $40,000 depending on the medical facility.

- A Bali travel insurance policy for 7 days is likely to cost less than $50 dollars .

The comfort of having a travel insurance help desk 24/7 on the end of the phone will be reassuring if you have an emergency. They will have your back.

What kind of travel insurance do you need for Bali, Ubud, Lombok?

To decide the level of coverage you need, it helps to understand the risks so you can ensure these are included in your policy and also not pay for coverage you do not need.

What are the common sickness and health issues in Bali?

The islands hold a range of health risks due to its tropical climate, poor infrastructure, wild roads and the fact tourists are seen as the financial solution to any accident (you will be blamed, regardless of the truth).

Sure, there are the obvious like motorcycle accidents, surfing accidents and general travel accidents, but even an infected coral cut, bite in a monkey forest, walking the uneven, pot-holed streets or slipping down a waterfall pathway are obvious risks. It is also important to be aware of the risk of food poisoning and bacterial infections caused by contaminated water and foods.

Should you worry about Malaria and Dengue Fever in Bali?

Malaria is present in rural parts of the islands, and travellers should be vigilant about taking precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Dengue Fever is another health concern for travellers to Bali. There is no treatment or vaccination for Dengue Fever, so travelers are at risk of catching it and eventually developing severe symptoms.

Is Bali healthcare expensive?

When you are admitted to hospital emergency it's too late to get insurance

When it’s a medical emergency, you want travel insurance to pick up the bill, not you.

Hospitals in Bali are generally much more expensive for tourists compared to locals (and medical is not free in Indonesia, even for locals). The quality of medical cover and healthcare can be quite basic, particularly if you're seeking advanced treatment or surgery. This is why you should always travel with health cover that covers medical evacuation and coverage for treatment costs. Understand that the majority of travellers do have Bali travel insurance , so hospitals charge accordingly and if you are the bunny without cover you still pay the high price regardless.

Why Bali travel insurance is important for seniors

Travelling to Bali can be a beautiful and exciting experience for seniors, but it can also be a potentially risky one. To protect against accidents and medical expenses, senior citizens must consider purchasing Bali travel cover. This must cover expenses in the case of an emergency, including evacuation. No senior should go to Bali without insurance.

What should Bali travel insurance cover?

When choosing your policy, it’s important to decide what coverage you are going to need because policies differ in their inclusions. Also, the price of a policy can change with optional inclusions.

Six things Bali travel insurance should cover

Emergency medical expenses, including medical evacuation costs;

Baggage and personal property is important to cover you for loss, delay and theft;

Cancellation and trip interruption should also be covered under the plan;

Sports and activities add-ons provide coverage for sports and activities. For example, most policies regard the very innocent-sounding activity of snorkeling as a high risk activity;

Some policies also offer additional benefits such as personal accident and liability coverage , accommodation cover, and legal expenses .

Finally, read the plan's terms carefully, as some may exclude certain medical expenses , include coverage limits, or exclude certain pre-existing medical conditions .

What Bali travel insurance probably won’t cover is Identity Theft

Identity theft, hacking, and viruses are all big problems in Bali, and they are usually not covered by travel insurance. That is why it is important to protect your digital identity with an app that protects your digital identity and your devices.

Is emergency medical evacuation and repatriation important?

Medical evacuation and repatriation coverage is critical to cover medical and transport expenses if the traveler requires transfer to another country (typically Singapore, Australia, or your home country) for urgent medical care. Often, this coverage will include your partner or family member to accompany you.

Should I have non-medical emergency evacuation?

Non-medical evacuation coverage can include expenses related to emergency evacuation, such as transportation and travel-related expenses. This can include medical expenses, if necessary.

Is baggage and personal property cover important?

If you go to the Gilis or Lombok your luggage will ride in an open wooden boat - so you need insurance!

You did not know your luggage was going to be transferred like this, and you can’t back out now. Tick for insurance.

All policies typically cover items such as luggage, personal effects, cameras, spectacles, and computers. The coverage can be customized to include additional items such as a GoPro camera or a drone.

If your airline loses your baggage or your Gilli Islands transfer boat hits a wave, the cost of buying a new set of clothes can be eye-watering, and you won't be able to avoid the expense. Get covered, and your new wardrobe (and equipment) is covered, up to the value of your policy.

Trip Cancellation

Trip cancellation cover protects you from losing out on prepaid, non-refundable trip expenses due to unexpected emergencies. It is important to note that trip cancellation insurance is different to insurance that covers expenses related to delays or missed flights.

Canceling your Bali trip for health reasons

Canceling your trip to Bali for health reasons can be covered under travel policies. In order to reimburse you for any non-refundable and prepaid expenses, such as expenses paid for accommodation, transportation, and medical expenses, travel policies typically include coverage for cancellation costs.

Canceling your Bali vacation trip because of extreme weather

Trip cancellation cover can provide financial protection in the event of extreme weather while on a trip. This type of cover protects travelers against the cost of canceling a trip due to inclement weather. It also reimburses travelers if a trip is delayed or canceled due to inclement weather.

Cancelling your trip due to Volcano activity

When the next volcano errupts, you absolutely want to have travel insurance!

Volcanos will puff, travel will stop. Be covered.

A travel insurance plan can provide coverage for trip cancellation fees as well as expenses incurred if you need to cancel your trip due to volcanic activity or volcanic ash. If a natural disaster takes place before your trip, trip cancellation benefits may not apply.

Trip interruption

Trip interruption insurance can provide travelers with coverage if an unexpected emergency causes them to cancel their trip with little notice. This type of travel cover can reimburse travelers for non-refundable expenses such as airfare, hotel stays, and tours that may have been planned for their trip.

Treating travellers Bali Belly

Bali Belly, also known as indigestion or travel-induced stomach pain, is a common health issue that can occur during travel to Bali. Many plans include a 24-hour emergency medical helpline. This can be critical if you are suffering from Bali belly and need medical attention or advice even in the middle of the night (inevitable, right?).

Tip: We have a special article What is Bali Belly? A Guide to Causes, Symptoms &Treatment which will share with you essential steps to prepare yourself before your trip and protect yourself from Bali belly whilst in Bali.

Adventure sports and activities

Snorkelling is an adventure sport, not having insurance is unwise

Yup, even snorkeling is an adventure sport.

Bali is known for its adventure activities, including surfing . But did you know most policies consider snorkeling an adventure sport ? Getting on a swing can also be regarded as an adventure sport, as is rafting or cycling tours . If you plan on taking part in any of these activities, make sure your travel policy covers you.

Riding motorbikes and scooters

Riding motorbikes and scooters in Bali is a common activity (even if just as a passenger on a Gojek), so it's essential to check what's covered under travel insurance policies. Many policies will not cover you unless you have a motorcycle license in your home country and you wear safety gear whilst riding. Check the policy carefully.

Accidental death and dismemberment

Accidental death and dismemberment coverage can help ensure that families are financially prepared for such a tragic event. A comprehensive travel insurance plan for Bali would provide comprehensive coverage for these expenses.

Baggage loss and theft coverage

If you are traveling to Bali, be sure to keep travel insurance coverage for baggage loss in mind. Lost or damaged luggage is a common concern when traveling, and insurance can help offset the costs associated with replacing lost items.

Gear and electronics cover

Get your gear covered, theft, damage, harsh climate and accidents can all happen

Put your gear in the frame when buying Bali travel insurance

It is important to check the policy's coverage for electronics and other gear before traveling to Bali as these items may not be covered by the insurance plan unless specified (meaning you list them when taking out the policy). If electronics and other gear are included in the coverage, read the policy to understand any excess and depreciation rules (meaning they may pay you a reduced value for older equipment).

Medical insurance for investors, digital nomads, and remote workers

If you’re traveling the world as a digital nomad or remote worker, it’s vital you have travel insurance to protect yourself from any potential risks. Digital Nomads are highly likely to rent a motorcycle and certainly be a passenger on one often. And as a digital nomad, Indonesians see you as being 'on business' so they will look to you to pay in the case of any accident even if it is not your fault.

Investors and business people visiting Bali should make sure they have travel cover and make sure it covers business trips. It is crucial that travellers understand all the terms and conditions of their insurance policy before purchasing it and ensure they receive comprehensive coverage for their trip.

How to choose the right Bali travel insurance for you

We have a simple formula to determine the right cover for you:

Add up your trip costs , equipment and think about the activities you will get into when deciding how much coverage to include in your policy. That ticks off the variable cost aspect of insurance.

Choose the maximum you can get for medical and evacuation - don't skimp on this part. Often the max cover is only a few buks more than standard.

You don't need more cover than your belongings are worth or the value you paid for your trip. You do need cover for most activities, even snorkelling. You do need the max cover you can get for medical and evacuation.

Our Recommendation of best travel health insurance Bali in depth:

We’ve reviewed a bunch and there are two main insurers we’ve checked out thoroughly and recommend you consider:

1. Heymondo

Heymondo has been around since 2016 and is baked by AXA, a world-leader in insurance. Their policies offer very high coverage amounts, and they have no excess or deductible, which means you can claim without paying the first X dollars yourself. They have plans for short trips, long-term travel and annual plans. They cover most activities and sports you’re likely to do on Bali and Lombok (except, for example, scuba diving, which requires an add-on, so check your activities closely to see if yours are covered). Also, they have an app with 24/7 doctor advice, free online calls, and claim reporting. We think this feature is huge... all you need is WiFi and you get help, even in the middle of the night.

Heymondo Trustpilot Rating : 4.4 from 1500+ reviews, 78% 5-star

Summary : High coverage, no excess, most activities covered and an app for quick help

Bonus : Use this link to get 5% discount thanks to Heymondo supporting small publishers like us and our readers

2. SafetyWing

SafetyWing is very popular among budget digital nomad travelers. They are a safe, solid company. They are cheaper because (1) they offer lower coverage amounts than others, and (2) they have a $250 excess. In other words, they could be a good choice if you just want to be covered for a major loss for a low premium and are happy to not claim for smaller medical or personal item losses. Our advice is that everyone must have travel insurance, so SafetyWing is the choice for those who feel bulletproof but just want to know that if they really go off the rails, they are covered.

SafetyWing Trustpilot Rating : 4.3 from 657 reviews, 78% 5-star

Summary : Cheap but absolutely reliable choice if you are okay with low coverage amounts and a $250 excess.

3. Travel insurance Master

Travel Insurance Master offers a diverse range of plans and benefits from top providers worldwide, all conveniently accessible on a single website for easy comparison. No journey is the same, and your travel insurance should reflect that.

The process is straightforward - input your unique trip and traveler information in three simple steps. The website will swiftly identify all available plans and present them side by side for easy comparison, suggesting the most valuable coverage. This recommendation is generated by Travel Insurance Master's advanced algorithm, which is continuously updated and enhanced to provide you with the best travel insurance options.

Even if you haven't fully paid for your trip yet, you can request a quote and safeguard your journey. In fact, it is advisable to purchase insurance soon after making a deposit for your trip, ideally on the same day or within a few days afterward. This is because insurance companies that cover pre-existing medical conditions will only do so if you acquire trip insurance within a specific time frame from the initial deposit, typically around ten days.

Summary : If you have the time, this is a great way to compare a variety of policies to find the right one for you.

Travel insurance recommendations for special needs:

Best bali travel insurance for young families.

For families that want solid coverage, go with Heymondo .

SafetyWing is a interesting choice for young families on a budget because they include 2 children under 10 (one per adult) free on your policy. That is pretty amazing when you think about it. Just bear in mind their policy has a $250 deductible and much lower coverage than Heymondo and that is one way they keep it affordable.

Best Bali travel insurance for adventurous people:

Heymondo gets the edge for us because of its high rating by its customers. Just make a list of your anticipated sports and activities and make sure they are included. They probably are, but just check.

Best Bali travel insurance if you want to ride a motorbike

Heymondo (for comprehensive cover) and SafetyWing (cheap). Note that you must have a motorcycle license in your home country and be prepared to wear safety gear when riding during your trip. You won't be covered if you answer “no” to either point.

Best cheap and affordable Indonesia travel insurance

SafetyWing is a value-based choice, as you will see if you compare rates. Note the $250 deductible, one reason why the rates are so cheap. To be covered on a motorcycle, you must have a motorcycle license in your home country and be wearing safety gear when riding on Bali and Lombok. But the policy covers all the other important things, like interruption, cancellation, natural disasters, and personal liability, and includes reasonable limits for the premium paid. Also note that Heymondo offers our readers 5% discount , which might be the bonus you need to go for the better coverage.

Best travel insurance for remote workers and digital nomads

Heymondo is still our favorite here. SafteyWing has a specifically named policy for remote workers and digital nomads. With Heymondo, you can only extend the long-stay policy, and you need to extend it 3 days before it expires.

Best travel health insurance Bali if you've left home already

Heymondo and SafetyWing are both brilliant here because they will let you take out the policy after you have left home. And you can extend while away as well (only the long term policy with Heymondo).

How to read your policy disclosure document (PDS)

Read your travel insurance policy before you leave home and keep the novels for the beach!

Read the novel on the beach. Read the policy document before you go.

Once you have used the links above to get a few quotes, take a moment to read the details of the cover for each of your choices. Here are a few tips to reading the policy disclosure documents (PDS) so you can focus on the important bits:

The table of benefits gives an overview of the coverage.

The policy cover section is crucial and often divided into 'what we will pay for' and 'what we won't pay for.'

General exclusions are important to review as they outline events that are not covered by any section of the policy.

Pre-existing conditions are essential to review, especially for those with medical conditions, no matter how minor, as they can remind you of any forgotten ailments.

The word definition table may contain surprises, making it a useful resource to clarify the meaning of terms like 'relative' or 'moped' or 'motorcycle'.

'How to make a claim' sections will share with you things like the need to avoid admitting fault or liability and the documentation required when making a claim, such as police reports.

Many policies have a specific section detailing COVID-19 coverage for medical, cancellation, and other related matters.

Write down and keep the 24-hour emergency assistance contact number in a handy place.

Guide To Bali Travel Insurance – ALL You Need To Know

Introduction.

Planning a trip to Bali? Exciting! This Indonesian paradise is a haven for beach lovers, adventure enthusiasts, and cultural explorers. While you’re busy organizing your itinerary and booking accommodations, one crucial aspect that should not be overlooked is travel insurance.

Bali travel insurance is a safeguard against unexpected events and provides you with financial protection in case of emergencies during your trip. Whether it’s medical expenses, trip cancellation, lost baggage, or any other unforeseen circumstances, having travel insurance can alleviate the financial burden and offer peace of mind.

But why exactly do you need travel insurance for your Bali vacation? Let’s take a closer look at the reasons why having adequate insurance coverage is essential.

  • Medical Emergencies: Bali may be a paradise, but accidents and illnesses can happen anywhere. With travel insurance, you’ll have coverage for medical expenses, including hospitalization, doctor’s visits, and emergency medical evacuations.
  • Trip Cancellation or Interruption: Unforeseen circumstances such as illness, natural disasters, or other emergencies can force you to cancel or cut short your trip. Travel insurance can provide reimbursement for non-refundable expenses like flights and accommodations.
  • Lost or Stolen Belongings: In the unfortunate event that your baggage gets lost or stolen, travel insurance can compensate you for the value of the items lost, allowing you to replace your belongings without incurring substantial costs.
  • Travel Delays: If your trip is delayed due to reasons beyond your control, such as a flight cancellation or severe weather conditions, travel insurance can cover additional expenses like accommodation and meals.
  • Personal Liability: Accidents happen, and if you accidentally injure someone or damage their property, having insurance coverage can protect you from potential legal liabilities.

Now that we understand the importance of Bali travel insurance, let’s delve into the coverage details and different types of insurance plans available. By understanding the options and factors to consider, you can make an informed decision when choosing the right insurance policy for your Bali adventure.

Why Do You Need Bali Travel Insurance?

When embarking on a trip to Bali, travel insurance should be at the top of your priority list. Here are some compelling reasons why you need Bali travel insurance:

  • Medical Coverage: It’s essential to have adequate medical coverage when traveling to a foreign country. Medical emergencies can occur at any time, and the cost of healthcare services in Bali can be high for international tourists. Travel insurance provides coverage for medical expenses, including hospital stays, doctor consultations, medication, and emergency medical evacuations if needed.
  • Trip Cancellation or Interruption: Your Bali vacation may need to be canceled or cut short due to unexpected circumstances such as illness, injury, or a family emergency. Without travel insurance, you risk losing the money invested in non-refundable bookings like flights and accommodations. Travel insurance can provide reimbursement for these expenses, giving you peace of mind.
  • Lost or Stolen Belongings: Theft and loss of belongings can happen, even in a safe destination like Bali. If your luggage is lost or stolen, travel insurance can cover the cost of replacing essential items such as clothing, electronics, and personal belongings.
  • Travel Delays: Flight cancellations, severe weather conditions, or unforeseen events may cause significant delays during your journey. This can result in additional expenses for accommodation, meals, and transportation. Travel insurance can provide compensation for these costs, ensuring you don’t bear the financial burden of unexpected delays.
  • Emergency Evacuation: In cases of natural disasters, political unrest, or other emergencies, you may need to be evacuated from Bali. Travel insurance can cover the costs associated with emergency evacuation, including transportation to a safe location or repatriation back to your home country.
  • Personal Liability: Accidents happen, and if you accidentally cause injury to someone else or damage property, you could be held liable. Travel insurance often includes personal liability coverage, protecting you from potential legal expenses and financial obligations.

Traveling without insurance is a risky proposition, as it leaves you vulnerable to significant financial losses and potential hardships. With Bali travel insurance, you can explore this beautiful island paradise with confidence, knowing that you have a safety net to protect you in case of emergencies.

What Does Bali Travel Insurance Cover?

Bali travel insurance provides coverage for various aspects of your trip, ensuring that you are financially protected in case of unforeseen circumstances. While the specific coverage may vary depending on the insurance provider and plan you choose, here are some common areas that Bali travel insurance typically covers:

  • Medical Expenses: This includes coverage for medical emergencies, hospitalizations, doctor’s visits, prescription medications, and emergency medical evacuations, if necessary. It is important to check the coverage limits and whether pre-existing conditions are included or excluded in your policy.
  • Trip Cancellation and Interruption: If you need to cancel your trip before departure or cut it short due to reasons such as illness, injury, or a family emergency, travel insurance can provide reimbursement for non-refundable expenses, such as flights, accommodations, and prepaid activities.
  • Baggage and Personal Belongings: If your baggage is lost, stolen, or damaged during your trip, travel insurance can offer coverage for the value of the items lost or damaged. This can include clothing, electronics, jewelry, and other personal belongings. The policy may also include coverage for delayed baggage, reimbursing you for essential items you need to purchase while awaiting the arrival of your luggage.
  • Travel Delay and Missed Connections: Travel insurance can compensate you for additional expenses incurred due to trip delays caused by factors beyond your control, such as flight cancellations, severe weather conditions, or strikes. This coverage can include costs for accommodations, meals, and transportation to help you resume your travel plans.
  • Emergency Evacuation and Repatriation: In the event of a medical emergency or a crisis situation, travel insurance can cover the costs of emergency evacuation to the nearest adequate medical facility or transportation back to your home country. This coverage is crucial in situations where specialized medical treatment may be required or if it is necessary to evacuate from Bali due to political unrest or natural disasters.
  • Personal Liability: Some travel insurance policies include personal liability coverage, which protects you from potential legal expenses and financial claims if you accidentally cause injury to someone or damage their property during your trip.

Before purchasing Bali travel insurance, it is important to carefully review the coverage details, policy limits, exclusions, and any additional optional coverage that may be available. Make sure the policy aligns with your specific travel needs and provides adequate protection for the duration of your stay in Bali.

Types of Bali Travel Insurance

When it comes to Bali travel insurance, there are different types of policies available to suit your specific needs and preferences. Here are some common types of travel insurance plans that you can consider:

  • Single Trip Insurance: This type of insurance provides coverage for a specific trip or vacation. It typically offers protection for trip cancellation or interruption, medical expenses, baggage loss, and other unforeseen events that may occur during your journey. Single trip insurance is ideal if you’re planning a one-time trip to Bali and don’t travel frequently.
  • Annual/Multi-Trip Insurance: If you are a frequent traveler or plan to take multiple trips in a year, an annual or multi-trip insurance policy may be more cost-effective. This type of insurance offers coverage for multiple trips within a specified period, usually one year. It provides protection for similar events as single trip insurance, including trip cancellation, medical emergencies, and baggage loss.
  • Group Travel Insurance: If you are traveling with a group of friends, family, or colleagues, group travel insurance can be a convenient option. It provides coverage for the entire group and typically includes benefits such as trip cancellation, medical expenses, and baggage loss. Group policies can usually be customized to cater to the specific needs of the group.
  • Adventure Travel Insurance: Bali is known for its thrilling outdoor activities such as surfing, diving, and hiking. If you plan to engage in adventurous pursuits during your trip, it’s important to consider adventure travel insurance. This type of insurance offers coverage for activities that are typically excluded from standard travel insurance plans due to their higher risk nature. It may include benefits such as emergency medical coverage, search and rescue expenses, and equipment protection.
  • Business Travel Insurance: If you’re traveling to Bali for business purposes, a business travel insurance policy can provide coverage specifically tailored to your business needs. It can include protection for trip cancellation, trip interruption, emergency medical expenses, and travel delays, along with additional benefits like coverage for business equipment and liability protection.

When choosing the right type of Bali travel insurance, consider the nature of your trip, the level of coverage you require, the duration of your stay, and any specific activities or purposes for which you need insurance coverage. It’s essential to carefully review the policy terms, coverage limits, and exclusions before making a decision. Ensure that the insurance plan meets your specific travel needs and provides adequate protection for your Bali adventure.

Factors to Consider When Choosing Bali Travel Insurance

Choosing the right Bali travel insurance policy is crucial to ensure that you have adequate coverage and protection during your trip. Here are some important factors to consider when selecting a travel insurance plan:

  • Coverage Options: Review the coverage options provided by the insurance policy. Ensure that it includes essential areas such as medical expenses, trip cancellation or interruption, baggage loss or delay, and emergency evacuation. Consider any additional coverage options that may be important to you, such as coverage for adventure activities or rental car protection.
  • Policy Limits: Check the policy limits for each type of coverage. Ensure that the coverage limits are sufficient to cover potential expenses you may incur during your trip. For example, verify that the medical coverage limit is high enough to cover potential medical expenses in Bali.
  • Exclusions and Limitations: Carefully read the policy exclusions and limitations. Understand what events or circumstances are not covered by the insurance plan. Exclusions may include pre-existing medical conditions, high-risk activities, or acts of terrorism. Make sure you are aware of any conditions or activities that may void your coverage.
  • Cost of the Policy: Consider the cost of the travel insurance policy and how it fits within your budget. Compare the premiums of different insurance providers to ensure you are getting the best value for the coverage provided. Remember that the cheapest policy may not always offer the most comprehensive coverage.
  • Customer Reviews and Reputation: Research the reputation and customer reviews of the insurance provider. Look for feedback on customer service, claims handling process, and overall satisfaction. This will give you an idea of how reliable and trustworthy the insurance company is.
  • Travel Duration: Consider the duration of your stay in Bali. Ensure that the travel insurance policy provides coverage for the entire duration of your trip. If you are planning an extended stay, check if the policy allows for an extension or renewal of coverage.
  • 24/7 Emergency Assistance: Look for travel insurance providers that offer 24/7 emergency assistance. This ensures that you can get help and support whenever needed, especially in emergency situations. Having access to a helpline can be invaluable if you find yourself in a medical or travel-related emergency.
  • Policy Documents: Carefully review the terms and conditions of the policy documents. Understand the requirements and procedures for filing a claim and the necessary documentation. Ensure that you are aware of any time limits for filing claims and the process for reimbursement.

By considering these factors, you can choose a Bali travel insurance policy that suits your specific needs and provides you with the necessary coverage and peace of mind during your trip.

How to Get Bali Travel Insurance

Getting Bali travel insurance is a straightforward process. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Research and Compare: Start by researching different insurance providers and their policies. Look for reputable companies that offer travel insurance coverage for Bali. Compare the coverage options, policy limits, exclusions, and prices to find the best fit for your needs.
  • Visit Insurance Provider Websites: Once you have identified a few potential insurance providers, visit their websites to get detailed information about their policies. You can usually get a quote online by providing some basic information about your trip, such as travel dates, destination, and the number of travelers.
  • Review Policy Details: Carefully read the policy details of each insurance plan. Pay attention to coverage limits, exclusions, and any additional coverage options. Consider your specific travel needs and choose a policy that provides adequate coverage and aligns with your budget.
  • Fill Out Application: If you decide to proceed with a particular insurance plan, fill out the application form provided by the insurance provider. Provide accurate and complete information about yourself and your trip to ensure that the policy is tailored to your needs.
  • Make the Payment: After completing the application, you will need to make the payment for the insurance policy. Most insurance providers offer online payment options, including credit/debit cards or online banking transfers. Make sure to review the payment details and confirm the transaction.
  • Receive Policy Documents: Once the payment is confirmed, the insurance provider will send you the policy documents via email or mail. Carefully review the documents to understand the terms and conditions, coverage details, and the process for filing a claim.
  • Keep a Copy Handy: It is important to keep a copy of the travel insurance policy with you during your trip to Bali. Store it on your electronic devices and carry a printed copy as well. This will allow you to have quick access to the policy details and contact information in case of an emergency.
  • Contact 24/7 Assistance: Before your trip, take note of the 24/7 emergency assistance contact provided by the insurance company. Save the contact details in your phone and keep them easily accessible. In case of any emergency or if you need to file a claim, contact the assistance team for guidance and support.

Getting Bali travel insurance is a proactive step in ensuring a smooth and worry-free trip. By choosing the right insurance policy and understanding the claims process, you can travel to Bali with confidence, knowing that you are protected in case of any unforeseen events during your journey.

Important Tips for Bali Travel Insurance

When purchasing Bali travel insurance, keep these important tips in mind to make the most of your coverage:

  • Buy Early: It’s best to buy travel insurance as soon as you book your trip to Bali. This ensures that you are covered for unexpected events that may occur before your departure, such as trip cancellation due to illness or other emergencies.
  • Read the Fine Print: Carefully read the policy documents and understand the terms and conditions, especially the coverage limits, exclusions, and any additional requirements. Be aware of any pre-existing medical conditions that may affect your coverage and disclose them to the insurance provider if necessary.
  • Keep Your Policy Information Handy: Carry a copy of your travel insurance policy with you during your trip to Bali. This includes the policy number, emergency contact information, and any necessary claim forms. Having this information readily available will make the claims process smoother in case of an emergency.
  • Save All Receipts and Documentation: In the event that you need to file a claim, make sure to keep all receipts, medical reports, police reports, and any other relevant documentation. This will serve as evidence and help expedite the claims process.
  • Notify Your Insurance Provider: If you encounter any difficulties, such as a flight delay or lost baggage, notify your insurance provider as soon as possible. They can guide you on the necessary steps to take and any additional documentation required for a claim.
  • Understand Coverage for Adventure Activities: If you plan to engage in adventure activities in Bali, check if your travel insurance policy covers such activities. Some insurance providers may offer additional coverage or require you to purchase a separate policy for these activities.
  • Keep a Record of Emergency Contacts: Familiarize yourself with the emergency contact numbers provided by your insurance company. This includes the 24/7 assistance hotline and any local support numbers. Keep these numbers in your phone and have them easily accessible in case of an emergency.
  • Review Your Existing Insurance Coverage: Before purchasing additional travel insurance, review your existing insurance policies to see if they already provide some coverage for travel-related events. For example, your health insurance or credit card may offer some benefits that can supplement your travel insurance coverage.
  • Stay Updated on Travel Advisories: Before your trip, stay informed about any travel advisories or safety alerts issued for Bali. Follow the guidance provided by your government or relevant authorities. In case of any travel warnings or restrictions, communicate with your insurance provider for guidance on coverage and potential options.
  • Ask Questions: If you have any doubts or questions about your travel insurance policy, don’t hesitate to reach out to your insurance provider. Clarify any concerns regarding coverage, claims process, or any other policy-related queries before your departure.

By following these tips, you can ensure that you make the most of your Bali travel insurance coverage and have a worry-free and protected trip.

Traveling to Bali is an exciting adventure, but it’s important to prioritize your safety and financial security along the way. Bali travel insurance offers peace of mind by providing coverage for unexpected events that may occur during your trip. Whether it’s medical emergencies, trip cancellation, lost baggage, or travel delays, having the right insurance can save you from financial burdens and ensure a smoother travel experience.

Health Insurance for Expats and Foreigners in Bali, Indonesia

Living in a tropical place like Bali can be exciting. But when living here, it’s also important to have good healthcare. If you’re an expat or a foreigner living in Bali, you should know about your health insurance options. This is really important for having some peace of mind that you can be taken care off in case of an unfortunate thing. Basically what insurances do. Even though living in Bali can be cheaper than in Western countries, healthcare can cost a lot. That’s why having medical insurance is a must.

Why would healthcare be expensive in Bali?

When you don’t have the insurance it will work according to the American system as we know. You’ll be billed for each day and action that is required to help you in any way. It might still be cheaper than other countries, but some people have to sell assets, cars, or change their lifestyle when such bills become too much. Also for long term, you can’t imagine the cost in a place like Bali.

to give you an example, some (chronic) that require few weeks hospitalization and specific care can easily reach 100 million rupiah or more. Imagine getting a bill of 6000 euro or up. With that Bali isn’t cheap any more.

What are the options for health insurance in Bali?

Private medical insurance.

Having a private medical insurance policy is often the best choice. It covers many medical services like seeing specialists, surgeries, and even medical evacuations. A lot of insurance companies have special plans for expats that work all over the world. In Indonesia, Prudential and Allianz are some of the well-known insurance providers.

Travel Insurance

If you’re in Bali for just a short time, think about getting travel insurance. It helps with emergency medical costs and can also cover things like canceling your trip, theft, and lost bags. But remember, it doesn’t give as much healthcare coverage as private medical insurance.

National Healthcare

Indonesia has a national healthcare system called BPJS Kesehatan. But, if you’re a foreigner, it might be hard to use because of language issues and confusing rules about signing up and how it works. Plus, the healthcare you get might not be what you’re used to in Western countries.

International Health Insurance

If you need coverage in many countries, international health insurance is really helpful. It takes care of things like medical evacuation, seeing specialists, surgeries, and even regular check-ups. It might cost more, but it gives you strong health protection. Companies like Cigna Global and Aetna International offer this kind of insurance.

It’s smart to look closely at each policy. Think about the costs, what it covers, and what it doesn’t before you choose the best one for you. Talk to insurance experts and make sure you really understand your policy.

Also, make sure your policy covers Covid-19 medical costs, as the pandemic is still a concern around the world.

Factors to consider when choosing medical health insurance in Bali

Choosing the right health insurance plan involves considering various factors such as coverage for medical emergencies, accessibility to healthcare facilities, and whether you’re planning to relocate to Indonesia or are already living in Bali. Ensuring that the insurance policy covers medical evacuation and repatriation can be crucial, especially for expats in Bali.

I would recommend looking into Hospitals that would cover the insurance. If it’s not an emergency you can check with the hospital by calling them. An example from BIMC Kuta Hospital gives out even a page which insurance companies would be valid there.

Top Reasons to have medical insurance

Please note that you would need to check with the insurance if you are covered by the following.

  • Insurance companies cover costs of the Rabies vaccinations in Bali
  • Coverage against COVID-19 cases
  • Healthcare Costs : Medical treatment in Bali, especially for foreigners, can be expensive. Insurance helps cover these costs.
  • Quality of Care : While Bali has good healthcare facilities, the best care is often at private hospitals, which are more expensive. Insurance ensures access to these facilities.
  • Emergency Evacuation : In case of serious illness or injury, you might need medical evacuation to a country with advanced medical facilities. Insurance often covers these high costs.
  • Travel Mishaps : Travel insurance with medical coverage helps in case of accidents or illnesses during your stay in Bali.
  • Peace of Mind : Knowing you’re covered in case of health emergencies can make your stay more enjoyable and stress-free.
  • Legal Requirement : Some types of visas in Indonesia require proof of health insurance.
  • Chronic Conditions : If you have a pre-existing condition, regular access to medication and treatment is crucial, which insurance can facilitate.
  • Unpredictable Health Risks : Tropical environments have unique health risks, like dengue fever, that might require medical attention.

In the era of staff shortages and extreme weather, your trip may not go exactly to plan. When that happens, travel insurance can be a big help. Although an insurance policy can’t prevent a delay or cancellation from happening, it can help relieve the financial burden if something unpredictable does occur on your trip.

But how do you know which insurance provider to go with? Here's a look at AXA travel insurance to help you determine if one of its plans is right for you.

AXA is a French insurance company that does business in over 200 countries. It offers many different types of insurance, including policies for travelers. These include coverage for baggage loss , trip cancellation and interruption, emergency evacuation and emergency medical costs. Cancel for any reason coverage is also offered.

AXA Assistance USA is part of the AXA Group.

AXA Assistance USA offers travelers three insurance plans: Silver, Gold and Platinum. The plans are underwritten by Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company and their affiliates in Columbus, Ohio. Here's the coverage you can expect from each policy.

Silver: This is the least expensive plan that offers 100% trip cancellation and trip interruption coverage, $25,000 in emergency accident and sickness medical coverage and $100,000 in emergency evacuation and repatriation coverage.

Gold: The mid-range Gold policy comes with 100% trip cancellation and 150% trip interruption coverage, $100,000 in emergency accident and sickness medical coverage and $500,000 in emergency evacuation and repatriation coverage.

Platinum: The AXA Platinum travel insurance plan includes 100% trip cancellation and 150% trip interruption coverage, $250,000 in emergency accident and sickness medical coverage and $1,000,000 in emergency evacuation and repatriation coverage.

If you want to add Cancel For Any Reason coverage, you’ll need to select the Platinum plan and purchase a policy within 14 days of paying the initial trip deposit. It’ll cover 75% of the prepaid nonrefundable expenses for your travel.

If you’d like coverage for pre-existing medical conditions , a waiver is available on the Gold and Platinum plans as long as you buy coverage within 14 days of your first trip payment.

If you need a pre-existing conditions waiver, select the Gold or Platinum plan. You’ll also have to purchase the plan within 14 days of making your initial trip deposit to be eligible.

The Gold and Platinum levels are also the two plans that offer Schengen zone coverage and a collision damage waiver . The Platinum plan is the only one that offers a Cancel For Any Reason add-on, so keep that in mind if you need more protection.

Overall, if you’re looking for emergency medical and emergency evacuation coverage specifically, the limits are good on all the plans, including the least expensive one.

To compare plans from multiple insurance providers at once, we recommend checking out Squaremouth, a travel insurance comparison site and a NerdWallet partner. The website helps you pick the right plan by displaying multiple quotes from many insurance providers, including AXA, in one spot.

AXA began in the early 19th century as a small insurance company specializing in property and casualty insurance.

Since then, the company has evolved, changing names and acquiring other insurance brands, until it became AXA in the 1980s. It is now one of the largest insurance companies in the world. In other words, yes, AXA is a legitimate travel insurance provider.

Every plan has different exclusions, so it's important to look at your coverage summary. Generally, pre-existing conditions without a previously purchased waiver are not covered.

Other limitations include:

Intentionally self-inflicted injuries.

Participation in bodily contact or extreme sports.

Traveling for the purpose of securing medial treatment.

Accidental injury or sickness when traveling against the advice of a physician.

Non-emergency treatment or surgery.

AXA handles more than 14 million cases each year, and every plan includes access to their 24/7 assistance hotline. The company is well established and has three plans for travelers to choose from.

AXA travel insurance covers several benefits including but not limited to 100% trip cancellation and trip interruption, medical emergencies, emergency evacuations, baggage delay or lost baggage, and accidental death and dismemberment. The Platinum plan also lets you add Cancel For Any Reason coverage.

AXA's least expensive plan, Silver, and its mid-range Gold policy do not have the option to add-on Cancel For Any Reason coverage. For travelers who opt to purchase the Platinum insurance plan, you can add Cancel For Any Reason coverage a la carte within 14 days of paying the initial trip deposit.

In the event that you need to make a claim, you can upload supporting documents online. If the claim is accepted, you will receive reimbursement within 30 days.

It's said that travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer. But you don’t want to become poorer if something goes wrong before or during a trip. We don’t know what the universe has in store for us, so buying a travel insurance policy is one way we can protect our investment.

AXA offers budget, mid-range and premium policies that are easy to understand, provide adequate coverage and don’t cost a fortune.
