I have been using Cat Safari for almost a year now and they've saved my life. I moved from SF to Oakland and thereby lost all my close-enough to drop in friends. I have one, but used to have two very elderly cats with multiple health conditions. Cat Safari are champs at taking care of those needs and never causing me to worry or feel bad about the special needs. Staff are friendly, gracious, and really love cats. Petra had irritable bowel syndrome for a year (yes, the runs, for a year), a hyperactive thyroid, has gone deaf, and yowled -- sometimes for ten hours straight. Thank god most of that is behind us and she seems pretty content (prozac for kitty is my hero!). The staff at Pet Camp were fantastic and very understanding about all of this. They make sure she gets her medicine, her special food needs, and are very attentive. The only reason I'm giving a 4 instead of a 5 is that sometimes things are a little messy when I pick her up -- her fur feels gritty, or it's clear she's gotten stuff on her haunches and it wasn't cleaned up -- but it's very rare and given her problems, not surprising. Since her health has improved, I haven't noticed anything amiss. Their hours aren't always convenient for my incredibly hectic life, but I tend to think that's more my problem.

My little girl spent about a week at Cat Safari relatively soon after it opened. I was very excited to take her as I had read about how personal the cat care was, how big the condos were, and how warm and cozy the place was, and how the staff loved and cared for its visitors. Checking in was easy and the woman I talked to made me feel as if I were being heard and that my cat would be well taken care of. I made sure to tell her about how my cat is terrified of being away from home and how she would need personal care and attention (which I was happy to pay for). I mentioned I had been getting her acupuncture for her nervousness and how it was finally taking. I reiterated how very upsetting it was for her to leave home. From the responses I received I was sure that this was the best place I could leave my girl. I was told I could call in to check up on her and that detailed notes would be taken on how she was doing. I was made to feel as if the care of and attention to my cat would be of utmost importance to the people working there. Let me tell you, this is not what we experienced. When I went back for a tour I noticed right away that the place was cold and not the least bit cozy. Additionally the condos were small and had no charm. Just the temperature alone made me think that this may not be the place I was expecting. Had I an option, just from taking the tour, I would not have left her there. However, the woman I spoke to was so adamant about the personal care and love each cat received that I thought maybe it would be all right. Maybe the cold temperature was temporary and maybe kind and loving attention would make up for the "condo" (read "cage") she was about to live in. Wrong! I was gone for about a week and called repeatedly to check up on my girl. Each and every time the people who answered didn't know who she was and they weren't able to tell me any more about how she was faring than "she isn't eating" or "she ate a bit." Additionally, when 3 days in I asked about the personal attention I had requested, including brushing, the answer I received was this, "Oh, we didn't notice that on her paperwork. We'll start brushing her today." The final straw for me was when I went to pick her up. There were no personal notes in her paperwork about how she did. No one knew which cat she was beyond her cage number, and I couldn't even get one sentance from anyone about her personally beyond the amount of food she ate or didn't eat. It was amazingly impersonal - the exact opposite of the impression they had given me before she was left. Even worse, I had to be taken back to the condo area to get my girl because she was hidden up behind a pipe and no one could find her or get her to come out (I had told them she was adept at hiding and could disappear in an empty room - obviously they didn't pay attention or care). The cry she gave when I started talking to her broke my heart. It was pitiful. She cried and cried until I was able to get her to come to me. And when we got home - she continued to cry and to yell at me and wouldn't let me out of her sight for about a week. I honestly feel that these people couldn't have cared less about my girl. They seemed more concerned about getting every last penny out of me for all the "extras" than giving my cat a warm, welcoming visit. There are better places out there (including The Cats Inn in Belmont and Feline Wishes in SF) - this place is hype.

We would never, EVER go to another place when we must leave our sweet cat behind during our travels. They have always accepted and still loved our Scout even though he is terrifying to anyone the first few days away from home. They know how to handle that aspect without any complaint to us and will wait patiently for the teddy bear that he is to come out..usually within 2-3 days. These cats have a blast here. To us, it SO worth the extra few dollars to know that each day he is loved and known (by everyone on staff) by name (pretty rare at boarding kennels) and allowed to roam around on his own to say hello to the staff & the other kitties (once he's ready of course!). Most places keep the cats in a sterile, depressing room, each in a metal cage...with a hello here and there. Not Cat Safari. They are the exception to this norm. The cats live in their own "condo" and can even look out the window at the birds or gaze at the indoor fish tanks in a few of the rooms. They even offer "safari" for the cats who wish to explore the outdoors (that is caged in for their safety), where they can hang from the trees and wag their tails in delight, much like the lions and tigers sitting in the sun in their natural habitat! Best part, they take a few pictures every day of each of the kitties and post them on their website. It is such fun to see how much fun he is having as we look online each day. To say they go the extra mile is putting it lightly. They are as good as family to us. As we trust them implicitly.

This is a great place to board your cats. I have two kittens that I could NOT leave home alone even with a pet sitter coming to visit as they take pride in destroying the house when I leave them alone too long. The staff here is great and they take the time to talk with you about everything before you come. You will have to submit your cat's vaccination records which you can do through email. The 50% off for first timers was the biggest draw. But, this place is not cheap by any means. It will cost you probably the same price as your actual hotel for your trip The outside safari and the one on one attention for playtime is extra. Still, I think it is really worth it as my kittens loved this place. Even the shy one was alright because the staff is excellent. They knew all about both my kittens personalities when I came to pick them up. They post pictures of all the animals daily. The rooms are really nice and they supply the food and treats or you can bring your own food if you prefer. They let you choose the room, put your cats in the condos and play with them for as long as you feel comfortable. You can also call them anytime to check up on your pets. I would recommend this business and I will be using their services again soon.

Sandy Thanks so much for your 5-star review! The counselors love getting such positive feedback and we can't wait to see your campers again soon. Pet Camp

I felt a little dooped by the website as I read about all the amentities like the outdoor facility and individual attention. They are all available for a price which would equal twice the boarding fee if you requested the services daily. I have no doubt that my cat was treated well during his stay but there were only a few cats at the Cat Safari during our his stay. To leave the outdoor space unused or the larger sunnier spots in the facility vacant seems senseless. Even airlines and people hotels upgrade as available.

Jeep has become a frequent camper at Pet Camp Cat Safari. Let me preface that Jeep is not a frequent anything. She does not frequently eat the same food, she does not frequently keep quiet, she even does not frequently poo (i won't go into details on that one). But for Pet Camp, she has of late become a frequent camper, not only because mom (me) is travelling too much, but mainly 'cause she LOVES pet camp. Even more so than home, i think. And even better, pet camp loves her (awww, they always say she is the best cat camper EVER). Every time she arrives home, she is happy, well-fed and wants to play constantly (thanx to pet camp's VIP play time and cat safari experience -- you have to see it to believe it). Five wonderful stars for pet camp, and the fact that they have opened Cat Safari which is closer to my home is really a 6 star review.

Since Cat Safari/Pet Camp opened on Sacramento street, we have boarded our cat there several times yearly. Our Cat hates everything, and does not like anything. But she is happy with Cat Safari. That says a lot!

We love, love, love Cat Safari for our child with four paws. We were very nervous to leave him for the first time, but the wonderful people at cat safari instantly made us feel at ease with their courteous manner and genuine concern for the animals they care for. We were further comforted by daily picture updates online of our kitty. The staff was also more than happy to give updates over the phone to this nervous mama. On his second stay we chose to have him engage in the VIP play time and a safari in the garden, which is a treat for our indoor gentleman. Upon picking him up after both stays the staff obviously was very well acquainted with our guy, and spoke of his particular personality traits, likes, and behavior throughout his stay. They also provide a summary upon checkout on notes taken throughout the week. What a wonderful service, and wonderful staff! We will be booking again soon! It is so nice to know he is safe and happy in good hands when we are away. Thank you Cat Safari!!!!

We needed somewhere for our cat to stay during a home renovation, our cat prefers to stay at home, but in this case we needed to have her somewhere where she would be safe. Our cat was comfortable within days, the staff gave her lots of attention and care. The staff is so friendly and was so nice, I know our cat got the best care and attention possible. I would highly recommend Pat camp cat safari for any kitty, I know our cat really enjoyed it..

Good experience, the management seems to really care about the animals and us well aware of the occupancies. Very positive experience! Really appreciated that he took the time to give us a nice tour of the facility and show us first hand what our cats would experience!
