Embark on a spirited discovery of rum, with this London Rum Tasting River Cruise for Two.

You and a fellow aspiring rum connoisseur can take your seats for a tranquil 3 hour cruise down the river, soaking up the sights as an expert regales you with stories of rum’s unique history. You’ll sample your way through four rums, before spending the last hour enjoying two of your favourites in a signature cocktail, served by the onboard bartender.

What happens on the day?

On arrival at the Pontoon at the Olympic Park, you’ll be checked in before stepping on board and embarking on your 3 hour cruise.

Take in the sights as you sip your way through the history of rum with an expert, before enjoying a delicious signature cocktail each, served by the onboard bartender.

• The experience content, equipment used and restrictions may vary

Availability

The experience is available on selected Saturdays March to October with some dates in October / November if demand is high. Exclusions may apply.

We recommend you book at least four weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available. All bookings are subject to availability.

Please allow 3 hours for the full experience.

What about insurance?

The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.

Fabulous 50th Birthday present

Went on the Rum cruise in Ware as could not make the London dates. It was an absolute amazing afternoon trying different rums that normally you would not think of. The information provided about each was enough to peak your interest and I even tasted two that I had on holiday ( Cuba and St Lucia ) and forgot how great they were. If you like rum, I would certainly recommend the Rum on the river cruises. I staggered off at the end extremely merry. Cheers

The range and number of rums tasted was good and the commentary with them was interesting. The two cocktails were also very good. The route of the cruise was limited and we moored half and hour before the end time, both of which were disappointing. Overall a good experience that we enjoyed.

Rum Tasting

Discover the wild and colourful history of rum and sample a carefully chosen selection of the incredibly diverse spirit at TT-Liquor’s rum tasting class.

The story of rum is rife with corruption, debauchery and piracy on the high seas – and the variety of flavours to enjoy is just as rich. From deep, molasses-heavy, dark rums to mellower golden varieties and refined, versatile, white rums – you’ll see why rum is one of the fastest growing spirit categories in the UK.

Tasting Format

Recommended session lasts for two hours.

Reception Cocktail

Enjoy a classic rum cocktail in the vaults before your tasting begins.

Introduction of Class

Your host will introduce you to what the spirit is at its heart and how it is distilled and produced. You’ll learn where it originated and how it spread throughout the world.

Taste a Range of Rums

Your host will guide you through the various styles and ageing methods and explain how different colonies created their own unique rums. During the session you’ll learn how to taste and nose like a pro.

All our guided tastings take place down in our atmospheric vaults, just around the corner from our subterranean cocktail bar, the Cellar Bar. Why not stick around to sample some of our seasonal menu after the class?

Cold food pairings are available for private tastings on request.

Group Enquiry

If you want to make a private booking for a group, or have any specific needs that require our attention, our enquiry form is the fastest route to the answers you need. Once completed, one of our team will be in touch.

We have a range of dedicated event spaces in which to hold our tastings, Public Tastings are usually held for between around 10 and 20 people to ensure the most in-depth and interactive experience for all our guests but for private tastings we can accommodate up to 50 guests or even more with enough prior notice. Depending on class-size, you may find yourself in one of the following:

The Vaults The former cells of the Victorian police station that once occupied our venue, now converted into intimate booths, perfect for smaller tasting sessions.

The Orangery Our biggest event-space and studio, set amongst hanging plants and large windows, the Orangery is perfect for sunny days with its bright airy atmosphere. Its spacious, L-shaped layout means it’s the optimum room for our bigger tasting sessions.

The Cinema Our Cinema features reclaimed tiered theatre-seating for up to 52 guests making it another great option for our larger tasting sessions.

Public Tastings

Our range of public tastings are perfect for smaller groups of five or less. We run a rotating selection of classes in our vaults every Saturday at 3pm. At the moment, there’s rum, whisk(e)y and gin to choose from, and you’ll be joining a group of like-minded individuals.

Private Tastings

Our private tastings are perfect for groups of six or more keen to develop their appreciation for their chosen spirit. Every aspect of our private tastings are customizable, from your welcome drink all the way up to the bottles you’ll be working your way through on the day. Get in touch today.

Cocktail Classes

Our cocktail classes are 100% interactive, every guest makes and drinks a selection of five cocktails using their own equipment and area behind one of our custom-built cocktail bars. Private bookings available, any time, any size.

We did a gin tasting here. It was very informative and entertaining and we got to try a LOT of gin! The venue is very atmospheric, cool without being pretentious. Amazing range of spirits in the bottle shop and behind the bar.

Yes absolutely, we will need to clear the table but will be able to find you another table to enjoy a few drinks at.

All our experiences are held in our multifaceted flagship venue, TT Liquor on Kingsland Road in Shoreditch, East London. We are within walking distance of Liverpool St. Station, Old Street tube station and Shoreditch High Street and Hoxton overground stations.

Spirit tastings run for 2 hours including a short break in the middle.

You can book as far in advance as you like. Our tastings are always on the same days of the week or month, and this is unlikely to change.

Previous One-Off Tasting Events

Tasting sessions – cabby’s rum.

The inaugural set of tasting sessions was led by Moses Odong, of the multi-award-winning Mile End-based Cabby’s Rum.

Delivered in his beloved black cab, his white rum constitutes the first ever entirely produced in London, and the awards speak for themselves – Cabby’s picked up four at the International Wine and Spirits Competition this summer.

Just as comfortable being sipped neat, as it is alongside a mixer, Moses’ liquid has certainly shaken up the rum game and opened our eyes to the full potential of white rum.

Moses is keen to spread the word, and get London “talking the rum language”

Included in the session was a rum-soaked welcome cocktail, followed by a guided tasting of Moses’ award-winning range.

Tasting Sessions – Gosling’s Rum

We moved into March with another exclusive Tasting Session, this time courtesy of the guys over at venerable Bermuda-based rum producers, Gosling’s.

Learn the story of how the brand’s founder James Gosling, who set out from England to America in 1806 with £10,000 worth of merchandise, unexpectedly landing in Bermuda where they remained for over 127 years.

The team took us on a journey into rum’s infamous past, revealing tales of pillaging pirates, cures for baldness, signature cocktails, and body preservations.

Tasting Sessions – FAIR. Spirits

Our second tasting session was led by Paul Bungener, Global Brand Ambassador for FAIR. Spirits.

Coinciding nicely with FAIRtrade Fortnight, Paul showed attendees that drinking a spirit neat or on the rocks needn’t necessarily come with any guilt attached.

FAIR. are a drinks and spirits company dedicated to ethical business practice. They believe in treating all people fairly, and this belief has taken them all over the world to source the best ingredients for their high-quality spirits – and to make sure the people sourcing them are treated fairly and equally.

Guests were treated to a complimentary welcome cocktail, before getting the chance to taste a wide selection of their Fairtrade spirits and liqueurs, including their Quinoa Vodka, Belize Rum, and handcrafted selection of liqueurs

On a walking tour of our distillery, learn how we take the raw ingredients through fermentation, distillation in our impressive 500 litre still NelMar and bottling ready for tasting. Our team will give you the story behind Goldstone Rum and a better understanding of the history of rum and how it varies around the world.

Finally, you’ll be led through a tasting where you’ll learn the flavour profile and characteristics, and which rum works best in which cocktail.

Ahoy me hearties! We’re written articles aplenty on where to drink cocktails in London, often highlighting some of the best cocktail bars in the world that just so happen to be in our humble capital. We’ve also advised you on the best places to drink gin and sip at the perfect G&T. We’ve told you where to find some of London’s best tequila lists. And we’ve given you the lowdown on some of the smoothest whisky selections around. But what about rum ? Where are all the rum bars in London and places dedicated to our favourite sugar distillate? Um, they’re right down there. Below this sentence.

1. Burlock Rum Room , Mayfair

You basically have to kick off any run-down (rum-down, even?) of rum bars in London by mentioning the place that literally has rum in the name, right? And it’s not like they just popped the word into the title and called it a day. This hidden basement bar lends some Cuban flair to the affair, and they serve up their hefty rum menu neat or mixed into house daiquiris . With a huge array of choices from around the world, you can even take a trip to where the rum you’re drinking comes from by checking out the menu’s map.

They also offer up bottomless rum punch brunches , and regular rum tastings where you can learn more about some of the world’s best rums. And, don’t worry, they may specialize in rum, but they do have plenty of ‘non-rums’ – from cocktails to wine to beer and more.

2. ABV , Brixton

This intimate sister site to Brixton restaurant Wood + Water , is housed inside a shipping container at POP Brixton . Framed as a rum focused cocktail bar, ABV offers a short but meticulous selection of cocktails that highlight, educate, and entice all at once. Drinks make use of gorgeous rums and intriguing ingredients such as pimentos, Indian spice, and plantain skin extract. There’s even a Wimbledon on the menu that serves up strawberries and cream together in a rum-base cocktail. Oh and don’t skip the KMU & FMU , a rum take on the espresso martini.

With tastings and rum masterclasses available, they’re one of the many rum specializing bars in London keen to share their knowledge and spread the good word about the spirit. And with an Operations Manager (Lee Tan) who has over 20 years of experience, you know you’re in good hands.

3. Rhythm Kitchen , Walthamstow

We’ve got two words for you: rum slushies . Yeah, that’s got your attention hasn’t it? Well then you’ll definitely want to hit up this East London institution. Serving up traditional and authentic Caribbean food, they promise proper portions and proper cocktails. There’s more than 130 rums on offer, and monthly rum clubs to get down and nerdy with industry professionals. You can also find them in the Westfield Stratford world food court, but for the full experience you’ll definitely want to get out to E17. Bring friends and an appetite and join in the delightful atmosphere at this London rum bar.

4. Sugar Cane , Clapham Junction

Sugar Cane brings a tropical escape to the environs of Clapham Junction . With a jam-packed roster of events, you’ll be coming back equally to sample the incredible cocktails and rum selection as the variety of evenings on offer. There are tiki brunches, rum and burger discount deals, and cocktail masterclasses. There’s also speed dating, tiki throwdown party nights, silent discos, and tons more.

Sugar Cane is one of those unique venues in London that works no matter the vibe of your night. Simple nights out with just one or two friends work equally well here as massive blowout parties where you don’t even know half the attendants. Whether the night is young, or already long in the tooth, a touch of sugar is sure to help – no wonder then that we’ve included this one in our rum bars in London roundup.

5. Laki Kane , Islington

Laki Kane is one of those rum bars that’s just been showered with accolades and praise from the moment it opened. One of those places that knew what it wanted to do, and executed it flawlessly. Pan-Asian food complements a cocktail list that makes use of house-distilled rum that perfectly compliments their always natural, often unique, ingredients. They’ve got plenty of visually stunning tiki cocktails that come in an array of outlandish vessels, but they’ve also got the classics for those who take joy in the simpler things.

To top it all off, they’re constantly throwing events at Laki Kane. Weekend bottomless brunches , cocktail masterclasses, rum tastings, a rum making experience, and even, erm, romantic cocktail making? I’ll need to practice my slow cocktail shaking while maintaining sultry eye contact before giving that a go!

6. East London Liquor Company , Bow

Gin fans may remember ELLC from our gin bars in London roundup , where we complimented the distillery’s sometimes surprising collaborations and gin experimentations. Well, they also make a pretty banging rum – and where else to drink it than at the source? Their cult-favourite canned rum and ginger cocktail is unfortunately sometimes sold out. But head to the distillery itself and you’re in with a chance at sampling their East London Rum , and their East London Rarer Rum that gets aged in ex-bourbon casks. And, yeah, while you’re there you might as well sample all their other liquors and cocktails. When in Rome a distillery, right?

7. Limin , Southbank

Limin is a Caribbean restaurant located just moments from the Thames on the Southbank , inspired by the twin islands of Trinidad and Tobago . While their food is fantastic (think super soft roti, melt-in-your-mouth pork, and fiery burgers), you’re reading this article for the rum recommendations, right? Well, like the people of Trinidad, Limin knows what they’re doing when it comes to rum. From one of the best rum punches our team has tasted to the Cuba Libre created using the restaurant’s very own rum brand, there’s plenty to choose from.

8. Buster Mantis , Deptford

Buster Mantis are a Jamaican -focused food and drinks venue that take inspiration from all around the globe. These inspirations show themselves in the food and across the drinks menu. It’s a delightfully bustling venue underneath the railway arches, mere steps away from Deptford station. Classic rum cocktails get a Buster Mantis twist, and Mama’s Punch gets the evening started with a kick.

Thursdays are the absolute star of the show at this Deptford venue, though, as they offer up Five Pound Thursdays . For the duration of the day, a huge selection of food and drinks will run you only £5 each. There’s tagliatelle with ackee, sweet peppers and tomato, grilled octopus with a variety f veg and a fresh salsa, and loads more. And you know there has to be a rum punch on the £5 cocktail list – with Wray and Nephew white rum, pineapple, ginger, bitters, and lime serving up a refreshing delight.

9. Mahiki , Mayfair

Infamous for their A-list clientele as much as for their legendary drinks, Mahiki is a rum-fueled experience nestled in the centre of London. A list of rum bars in London would frankly be incomplete without including them. It’s all tiki kitsch and silliness in the bar itself, but the drinks are plenty serious. There’s over 200 rums on offer, and they recently overhauled their 14-year-old tiki menu for contemporary tastes. Sharing cocktails come in elaborate presentations (treasure chests, oversized clam shells, and surfboards) and can sate the thirst of up to 10, or even more, people.

But the individual serves are just as uniquely presented, coming in Hemingway-adorned tiki mugs, glass birds, or even in the jaw of a shark. The whole affair is decidedly tongue-in-cheek, bordering on camp, and spades of fun. It’s easy to see why this rum bar became so popular with its famed patrons.

10. Trailer Happiness , Notting Hill

Where Mahiki is pure adrenaline-fuelled partying with kitsch galore and non-stop tiki vibes, Trailer Happiness turns it down for a rum bar that finds industry professionals and rum lovers kicking back with expertly-made cocktails. A world-famous destination for rum drinkers, the venue is hidden away in a basement with luxe touches everywhere. With a handy 200+ rums to choose from, you won’t need to head anywhere else any time soon for your rum fix. And with regular rum clubs you can be sure you’re learning as you’re sipping (should you want to).

11. Merchant House , The City of London

Like East London Liquor Company , we’ve written about these guys before . And like East London Liquor Company they’ve more than earned their spot in this list. Because they boast the same number of rums as they do gins: an eye-watering 400+ bottles. Different bottles – it’s not 400 bottles of the same rum. That would be absurd. But if you want an absolute plethora of choice, Merchant House offers that up with a wink. Just try and pick only one from this list , they almost seem to say as they slide the menu over. And you’re definitely going to have to try out London’s smallest bar, The Brig , while you’re there. Doesn’t it just sound so delightfully pirate-y to complement your rum drinking?

12. Discount Suit Company , Spitalfields

The effortlessly stylish subterranean cocktail bar, Discount Suit Company, has partnered with The Brixton Distillery Company to create a limited edition rum based cocktail, available throughout the month of August . The cocktail, named the Monoi Highball , and features The Brixton Distillery Company’s Market Row Botanical Rum, which combines Jamaican, Bajan and Dominican rums with the flavours of Kenyan black tea, Nigerian hibiscus and Pakistani red rose, all sourced from street food stalwart Brixton Market. This is blended with Sauternes, a summery rhubarb cordial, sweet monoi and soda.

13. The Sun Tavern, Bethnal Green

The Sun Tavern is a neighbourhood bar in Bethnal Green that honours its roots with an intimate and unique atmosphere where drinkers can enjoy classically inspired yet innovative cocktails. Those looking for a rum based cocktail with some unexpected pairings can head to The Sun Tavern for their cocktail, the Bán Slippy. Combining El Dorado 3 Rum, Bán Poitín from their infamous Poitín collection, Banana Liqueur, Honey Aperitif, Wheat Beer and lime juice, it is carbonated and poured straight from the draught. Now this is one we can really get on board with!

14. JOIA Bar, Battersea

One of 12 signature serves at JOIA Bar – the bar set across the 14th floor of art’otel Battersea – is the fantastic ‘Granada’, made from a fragrant combination of Havana 7 rum, cherry liqueur, pinto port, pandan cordial and tonka bitters. This great spot also has panoramic views over the iconic towers of the Battersea Power Station – there’s even a rooftop pool . Fancy!

Check out this stylish west London haunt for Polynesian partying. It’s a little bit kitsch, but you won’t hear us complaining. Especially given that the rum line-up is one of the best in town. If you’re just in for the revelry rather than an education in the sugar-cane spirit, pretend you’re on hols by ordering a first-rate Piña Colada served inside a pineapple.

Island Social Club

Taking up residency inside Haggerston’s Curio Cabal is veritable rum shack Island Social Club. The focus of the former roaming supper club is celebrating British Caribbean culture through a curated events programme, plus roti and rum aplenty. Punches are made from recipes handed down through generations and they even ‘stiffen’ their ginger beer with the spirit. Because that’s just what legends do.

This Cuban-themed basement den is a great spot in which to drift away on an island vibe. And there’s more rum here than you can shake a sugar cane at. Choose from light, dark, spiced and even pirate-friendly overproof. Visit during happy hour and bag two rum cocktails for £10, including Mojitos, Daiquiris and Rum Old Fashioneds.

Rum Kitchen

The Brixton branch from the rum-and-jerk specialists is just as heartily stocked with booze as its sister venue in Soho. Plenty of space is set aside for diners looking to line their stomachs with Caribbean fare, but those in the know grab a seat at the bar for cocktails and party tunes played one way: loud. They do rum-filled twists on the classics alongside original recipes. Order the Rattle Skull Punch – it’ll put hairs on your chest.

The Notting Hill branch of Cottons holds a Guinness World Record for offering the biggest selection of rum in the world, with precisely 372 varieties to work your way through. Let experienced staff guide you on this tropical excursion or just hit Cottons for happy hour (5pm-7pm, every day), when rum-based cocktails from Cuba Libres to Reggae Rum Punches cost just £5. Extra Caribbean heat comes from steel drums and carnival dancers on special occasions, so keep your eye out for events.

East London Liquor Company

It may come as a surprise that the bar at East London Liquor Company – where they’re well known for distilling quality craft gin – also specialises in rum-based cocktails. The indie drinks brand also produces its own Navy Strength rum off-site, so it’s time you got better acquainted with their offering in one of their original cocktail recipes. Try a Vin Diesel, made from ELLC demerara rum and riesling – it’s rocket fuel.

This hip Hackney bar up above Netil House has a roster of spirits as impressive as the New York-style lounge setting. If you want to enjoy rum away from the tiki frills or pirate add-ons, this one’s for you. They list around 20 rums from all over the world and use them to great effect in original cocktails. Or knock one back with a beer as a Boilermaker.

Trader Vic's

A surprise Hawaiian paradise awaits you underneath the Park Lane Hilton Hotel. Say aloha to Trader Vic’s, a part of tiki heritage. This London branch replicates the California original, which borrowed all kinds of style from Hawaii, and can also lay claim to inventing the Mai Tai cocktail. Try the hit rum drink at the London branch – served in several different styles – or explore Luau punches served from the bowl.

If you’ve never heard of Mahiki, you probably never read a tabloid paper in the noughties (fair play). The fading celebrity style of this Mayfair bar won’t be for everyone, but if you’re looking for rum in a tiki-themed paradise, you’ve come to the right place. From Punches to Coladas, Dark ‘n’ Stormies to Zombies, they have them all in abundance and they’re served in iconic shell-, ship- and coconut-shaped cups too.

It’s over to Brazil at this favela-styled bar in Shoreditch. Live bands grace the stage with samba beats, so it would be rude not to order a rum cocktail to ease you further into the Latino mood. South American classics make up the menu, so choose from Daiquiris and Mojitos to warm things up, then move on to more tropical stylings as the night advances – from Mai Tais and flaming cocktails.
