Adaptive Cruise Control Problem

Our 2022 CRV EX-L throws a message "Adaptive Cruise Control Problem" with non-stop beeping whenever the car has been sitting in a hot parking lot. After perhaps 30-45 minutes it appears to cool down and returns to normal. Local dealer says says this is normal??? WTF????? What other make/model has this as a "normal" feature??? Since it does not throw a computer error code they say they can't fix it! Any similar experiences and possible real fixes?

Are you using a windshield visor that doesn’t have the cut out for the camera? Another member has recently brought this issue up and that was the culprit. I have the Weather Tech windshield visor with the cut out for the camera and have never had that issue. If that isn’t your problem I would suggest going to another dealership because that’s not normal.  

• Keep taking it in until you rack up the number of required visits for a lemon law claim.
• Complain to Honda Corporate.
• Take it to another dealer.
• Ask the dealer to walk with you to one of their new cars that has been sitting in the sun all day to show you how normal it is.

We have the same exact experience with our 2021 CRV Hybrid. Exact same problem. We have taken to two different dealers and b/c there’s no code, they say they can’t do anything. I got Honda Service to keep the car for a couple of days to replicate the issue. They provided another 2022 CR-V as a loaner. They came back and said it was a faulty camera module and were ordering a replacement. Of course its on back order.  

As noted in other discussions in the forum on the same issue... .the camera is where the issue rests, and the camera does have thermal sensors in it to shut the camera down if it gets too hot. Why shut it down if it gets too hot? Well, heat at some degree will likely cause the calibration of the camera to fail, which means it would report wrong data to the HondaSensing system in the vehicle. Better to have no driving safety data, rather than wrong data. Under normal operation this is generally not an issue, but it could be in very hot weather with the front glass facing the sun, and particularly if you are using a sunshade in the front glass (which can block the passive vent ports in the plastic housing that covers the camera and mirror attach points). I see that in a subsequent post you noted the dealer determined the camera to be bad, but that may in fact not be actually true, just that they decided to replace the camera out of an abundance of suspicion and not wanting to see the vehicle keep coming in for the same issue.  

I'm not sure it is the camera. The dealer changed the camera on September 2022. It worked well for 2 months and now the ACC is not working. Bad Omen.  

Surely you should have warranty? Worth going back to your dealer and notify them so a replacement can be supplied. Let us know how you get on.

Honda CRV: How to Set Cruise Control

Cruise control is a cool way to put your Honda CRV on autopilot so to speak. In this setting, the vehicle can maintain speeds of 25mph or more without having to press the accelerator. However, it will not set at below 25mph. In addition, the feature disconnects when the brake is applied. Albeit this is a wonderful feature, be aware that cruise control can be dangerous on winding roads, in traffic, and on wet slippery or icy roads. With that being said, here are the uncomplicated steps to follow to set your Cruise Control.

Enable Cruise Control:

• When your vehicle speed has reached 25mph or faster, press the MAIN button located on the RIGHT side of the steering wheel.
• An ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) icon will appear in the dash screen to notify you that the system is ready for you to use.
• Once you have reached the speed you want to set, press the -SET button.
• To INCREASE the speed press the RES+ button.
• To DECREASE the speed press the -SET.

3 Options To Cancel Cruise Control:

• Press the CANCEL button in the MIDDLE of the steering wheel.
• Press the MAIN button.
• Press the BRAKE pedal.

*Pressing the DISTANCE button located to the RIGHT of the cancel button will RE-ENGAGE your previous cruise control settings.

• Main (On/Off) – Press to turn the system ON/OFF; Be sure the system is OFF when not using it, as if RES/+ or -SET is active, you could accidentally hit either, which will cause your vehicle to enter cruise control mode
• SET/− (Set/Coast) – Used to set or decrease your desired speed
• RES/+ – To maintain the desired speed or to accelerate the set speed. To increase the speed press this button. Each press will increase the speed at 1 mph faster.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low Speed Follow

Helps maintain a constant vehicle speed and a set following-interval behind a vehicle detected ahead of yours and, if the detected vehicle comes to a stop, can decelerate and stop your vehicle, without you having to keep your foot on the brake or the accelerator.

Improper use of ACC with Low Speed Follow can lead to a crash.

Use ACC with Low Speed Follow only when driving on expressways or freeways and in good road and weather conditions.

ACC with Low Speed Follow has limited braking capability and may not stop your vehicle in time to avoid a collision with a vehicle that quickly stops in front of you.

Always be prepared to apply the brake pedal if the conditions require.

ACC with Low Speed Follow Conditions and Limitations

• On roads with frequent lane-change or continuous stop and go traffic, ACC with Low Speed Follow cannot keep an appropriate distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you.
• On roads with sharp turns.
• On roads with toll collection facilities or other objects between lanes of traffic, or in parking areas, or facilities with drive through access.
• On roads with bad weather (rain, fog, snow, etc.), ACC with Low Speed Follow may not detect the distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you properly.
• On roads with slippery or icy surfaces. The wheels may spin out and your vehicle may lose the control on the condition.
• On roads with steep uphill or steep downhill slopes.
• On roads with undulating slopes.

How to activate the system

To Set the Vehicle Speed

When driving at about 25 mph (40 km/h) or above: Take your foot off the pedal and press the RES/+ / SET/- switch up or down when you reach the desired speed. The moment you release the switch, the set speed is fixed, and ACC with Low Speed Follow begins.

When you use ACC with Low Speed Follow, Straight Driving Assist (a feature of the Electric Power Steering system) is activated.

When driving slower than about 25 mph (40 km/h): If the vehicle is moving and the brake pedal is not depressed, pressing the switch fixes the set speed to about 25 mph (40 km/h) regardless of current vehicle speed. If the vehicle is stationary, you can set the vehicle speed even with the brake pedal depressed.

When ACC with Low Speed Follow starts operating, the vehicle icon, interval bars and set speed appear on the gauge.

Customized Features Defaulting All the Settings

When in Operation

Exiting a vehicle that has been stopped while the ACC with Low Speed Follow system is operating can result in the vehicle moving without operator control.

A vehicle that moves without operator control can cause a crash, resulting in serious injury or death.

Never exit a vehicle when the vehicle is stopped by ACC with Low Speed Follow.

• The vehicle ahead of you is going at almost the same speed as, or faster than, your vehicle.
• A vehicle that cuts in front of you is going faster than your vehicle, gradually increasing the interval between the vehicles.

• When the vehicle ahead of you moves away, such as when entering an interchange or rest area, ACC with Low Speed Follow may continue to maintain the set following-interval for a short time.

There is a vehicle ahead

ACC with Low Speed Follow monitors if a vehicle ahead of you enters the ACC with Low Speed Follow range. If a vehicle is detected doing so, the ACC with Low Speed Follow system maintains or decelerates your vehicle’s set speed in order to keep the vehicle’s set following-interval from the vehicle ahead.

To Set or Change Following-interval

When a vehicle whose speed is slower than your set speed comes in or cuts in front of you and is detected by the radar and the camera, your vehicle starts to slow down.

There is no vehicle ahead

Your vehicle maintains the set speed without having to keep your foot on the brake or accelerator pedal.

On steep downhill during ACC with Low Speed Follow, it brakes to inhibit excessive acceleration for maintaining the set speed. However, the vehicle speed may become faster than the set speed.

When you depress the accelerator pedal

You can temporarily increase the vehicle speed. In this case, there is no audible or visual alert even if a vehicle is in the ACC with Low Speed Follow range.

A vehicle detected ahead is within ACC with Low Speed Follow range and slows to a stop

Your vehicle also stops, automatically. The Stopped message appears on the gauge.

If no vehicle is ahead of you before you resume driving, depress the accelerator pedal and ACC with Low Speed Follow will operate again within the prior set speed.

The system may automatically shut off under certain conditions. Some examples of these conditions are listed below. Other conditions may reduce some of the ACC with Low Speed Follow functions.

Environmental conditions

• Driving in bad weather (rain, fog, snow, etc.).

Roadway conditions

• Driving on a snowy or wet roadway (obscured lane marking, vehicle tracks, reflected lights, road spray, high contrast).

Vehicle conditions

• The outside of the windshield is blocked by dirt, mud, leaves, wet snow, etc.
• An abnormal tire or wheel condition (incorrect sizes, varied sizes or construction, improperly inflated, compact spare tire, etc.).
• The camera temperature gets too high.
• The parking brake is applied.
• The front grille is dirty.
• The vehicle is tilted due to a heavy load or suspension modifications.
• Tire chains are installed.

Detection limitations

• A vehicle suddenly crosses in front of you.
• The interval between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you is too short.
• A vehicle cuts in front of you at a slow speed, and it brakes suddenly.
• You accelerate rapidly and approach the vehicle ahead of you at high speed.
• The vehicle ahead of you is a motorcycle, bicycle, mobility scooter, or other small vehicle.
• There are animals in front of your vehicle.

• A vehicle ahead of you stops and the speed difference between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you is significantly large.
• An oncoming vehicle suddenly comes in front of you.
• Your vehicle abruptly crosses over in front of an oncoming vehicle.

• The vehicle ahead of you brakes suddenly.

• Your vehicle or the vehicle ahead of you is driving on one edge of the lane.

To Adjust the Vehicle Speed

Increase or decrease the vehicle speed using the RES/+ / SET/– switch on the steering wheel.

• Each time you press the RES/+ / SET/– switch up or down, the vehicle speed is increased or decreased by about 1 mph or 1 km/h accordingly.
• If you keep the RES/+ / SET/– switch pressed up or down, the vehicle speed increases or decreases by about 5 mph or 5 km/h accordingly.

Press the Interval button to change the ACC with Low Speed Follow following-interval.

Determine the most appropriate following-interval setting based on your specific driving conditions. Be sure to adhere to any following-interval requirements set by local regulation.

The higher your vehicle’s following-speed is, the longer the short, middle, long or extra long following-interval becomes. See the following examples for your reference.

When your vehicle stops automatically because a vehicle detected ahead of you has stopped, the interval between the two vehicles will vary based on the ACC with Low Speed Follow interval setting.

To cancel ACC with Low Speed Follow, do any of the following:

Automatic cancellation

The beeper sounds and a message appears on the driver information interface when ACC with Low Speed Follow is automatically canceled. Any of these conditions may cause the ACC with Low Speed Follow to automatically cancel:

• Bad weather (rain, fog, snow, etc.)
• When the radar sensor behind the Honda emblem on the front grille gets dirty.
• The vehicle ahead of you cannot be detected.
• An abnormal tire condition is detected, or the tires are skidding.
• Driving on a mountainous road for extended periods, or driving off road.
• Abrupt steering wheel movement.
• When the ABS, VSA ® , CMBS TM , or Low Speed Braking Control* is activated.
• When the ABS or VSA ® system indicator comes on.
• When the vehicle is stopped on a very steep slope.
• When you manually apply the parking brake.
• When the detected vehicle within the ACC with Low Speed Follow range is too close to your vehicle.
• When accelerating rapidly.
• The camera behind the rearview mirror, or the area around the camera, including the windshield, gets dirty.
• When the Maximum Load Limit is exceeded.
• When passing through an enclosed space, such as tunnel.
• The vehicle has repeatedly applied the brakes to maintain the set speed (for example, you are descending a long slope).
• When the system doesn’t detect any driving actions from the driver for a certain amount of time while the LKAS is also activated.
• When the parking brake and brake system indicator (amber) comes on.

The ACC with Low Speed Follow automatic cancellation can be also triggered by the following causes. In these cases, the parking brake will be automatically applied.

• The driver’s seat belt is unfastened when the vehicle is stationary.
• The vehicle stops for more than 10 minutes.
• The engine is turned off.

To Switch ACC with Low Speed Follow to Cruise Control

Press and hold the interval button for one second. Cruise mode selected appears on the driver information interface for two seconds, and then the mode switches to Cruise.

• Green: The system is on.
• White: The system is standby.

• When the vehicle speed is set.
• When ACC with Low Speed Follow is not activated.

When to use

Desired speed in a range above roughly 25 mph (40 km/h).

Take your foot off the pedal and press the RES/+ / SET/- switch up or down when you reach the desired speed.

When you use cruise control, Straight Driving Assist (a feature of the Electric Power Steering system) is activated.

Each time you press the RES/+ / SET/- switch up or down, the vehicle speed is increased or decreased by about 1 mph or 1 km/h accordingly.

If you keep the RES/+ / SET/- switch pressed up or down, the vehicle speed increases or decreases by about 5 mph or 5 km/h accordingly.

To cancel cruise control, do any of the following:

1 Adaptive Cruise Control problem

There have been approximately 10 times I was driving my crv and was exiting the interstate onto the exit ramp with no cars in front of me and the automatic brakes came on attempting to stop my car for no reason. I took it to my local Honda dealership and told them what had happened and they said there was nothing they could do about it. This is a dangerous issue and could easily cause an accident.

While driving in adaptive cruise control car applied brake even though no vehicle present can n front of the car. This lead to car behind me apply the brakes. This could be dangerous in future.

3 Adaptive Cruise Control problem

The car started sounding an alarm and flashing an idiotic warning message that says "adaptive cruise control problem". Yes it said "problem. " it also flashed a message that said "brake system. " I called the dealer and they instructed me how to turn off adaptive cruise control, and it did not stop the alarm and the flashing messages. They told me it was ok to drive and to bring it in to the dealer. I did that. Had to get ride so I could leave the car. The alarm stopped on the way to the dealer. The next day they told me they could not find what was wrong with the car, but it was ok to drive, and it if happened again, take a video. If they didn't know what was wrong with the car, how did they know it was safe to drive? I picked up the car and a couple days later it did the same thing. Even turning the car off and cranking it back up would not make it stop. I did stop and take videos of the flashing messages, which are attached here, and also sent them to the dealer. I took the car in and they said they got the videos, and they would now be able to fix it. The next day they said come pick it up, but said they thought it needed the front radar/camera replaced but they did not have one. They said it would be July before they could get the part. But they continued to say it is safe to drive. Since then, it had done this several more times, and I took videos again. Those are attached as well. They called today and said it would be August before they could get the parts. I strongly suspect that they do not actually know what it wrong, and that they have not done any actual microelectronic or software troubleshooting, and they are just guessing that this part will fix it. I am now forced to drive a car that is questionably safe. I mean, when an alarm sounds and a warning light flashes that says "brake system" how can it be safe to drive?.

4 Adaptive Cruise Control problem

-the car is rolling right and left even during the lane keeping assistance is on. -the driver seat started to deteriorate. -the air-condition compressor start to be noisy, no enough cooling even though it was winter season. - during the moderate bad weather all driver assist system cannot operate, while my last vehicle was better ( Hyundai elantra). - remote start engine does not work properly, while other cars is working ( same model, and same distance and direction).

Inside, the CR-V EX-L comes with black or gray leather upholstery. This trim also gets a 9-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. There’s a 7-inch display in the instrument cluster, and the 320-watt stereo has eight speakers. The driver gets a comfy chair with 10-way power adjustment, two-way power lumbar support and two-position memory. Plus, both front chairs are heated so the passenger can have a warm bottom, too.

“The CR-V is well put together for its price range,” we wrote when reviewing the 2025 model. “The lack of shakes and rattles indicates solid build quality, and it feels both smooth and quiet on the road. Now, there is a fair bit of hard plastic throughout the cabin, but Honda does well to mask it with soft surfaces and some interesting design elements.”

Buyers also have four accessory packages to pick from. The $323 Protection package includes splash guards, a rear cargo tray and chrome wheel nut locks. The $393 All-Season Protection Package II is similar with all-season floor mats, cargo tray and chrome wheel looks. Customers can’t get both of these bundles, though. They have to choose one or the other.

For $1,745, the HPD package bundles together a tailgate spoiler, HPD emblems, front lower bumper trim, lower door accent trim, and fender flares, which gives the CR-V a more aggressive appearance. Finally, the $1,780 Utility package combines useful items like roof rails and crossbars, running boards, a trailer hitch and a seatback protector. Plus, Honda dealers offer plenty of accessories. Customers can get carriers for items like bicycles, kayaks, skis and surfboards. There’s even a rear-mounted tent available.

Pass on the packages and accessories, and a CR-V EX-L with front-wheel drive and premium paint will set you back $36,805, including destination. If you want AWD and the bronze wheels — which we think help our CR-V stand out from the many others at a Costco parking lot — expect to pay $40,141.

I spent a week driving the fully redesigned 2023 CR-V Hybrid, which carries over nearly unchanged into 2024. A challenge for Honda was updating the CR-V Hybrid without breaking anything that made the old model so good. In general, they succeeded. The new-generation CR-V Hybrid has look more in line with the rest of Honda’s crossovers. In my week-long test drive, I found the CR-V Hybrid to have the roomy, comfortable cabin that shoppers in this category covet, along with new technology that’s easy to use. However, I did have a problem with the hybrid crossover. If you’re driving in the city, you’ll enjoy the maximum fuel-economy benefit of the hybrid powertrain. Get it out on the highway though, and the gas mileage I experienced was, well, terrible. It was no better than you’d see from a non-hybrid SUV and a far cry from the results its archrival, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid , delivers. The CR-V Hybrid also carries a significantly higher price tag than the Kia Sportage Hybrid and the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid .

Is the 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid a Good SUV?

Yes, the 2024 CR-V Hybrid is a great hybrid SUV . The cabin is comfortable and offers plush seats, the infotainment system is user-friendly, and the cargo hold is capacious. This Honda has secure handling, though it's not all that exciting. Also, the engine is occasionally noisy. Aside from that, the CR-V Hybrid is a front-runner in the class for a reason.

Should I Buy the 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid? If you’re hunting for a well-rounded hybrid SUV that's a good value, you should absolutely consider the CR-V Hybrid. This powertrain feels more than capable around town, and it inspires confidence on the highway when passing or merging. The electronic continuously variable automatic transmission (eCVT) provides mostly smooth shifts, but it can cause the engine to drone when accelerating hard.
