Taylor Swift enjoyed a "deeply abnormal and beautiful" moment during her latest stop on The Eras tour in Los Angeles, California.

After performing "Champagne Problems" during Tuesday's concert at SoFi Stadium, Swift got emotional as the audience delivered a standing ovation for nearly eight minutes.

"What do I say to you after that?" she asked the crowd. "That was so deeply abnormal and beautiful. I don't know what to do or say."

She continued, "I think it's safe to say that I, like all people, will experience a certain amount of emotional downward spirals throughout the course of the rest of my life and in those moments, you can rest assured I'm gonna think about what you just did. And I'm gonna feel better. So thank you. That was insane. It was crazy."

Swift took some time to collect herself, admitting that she was still struggling to come up with an appropriate reaction as she rambled on.

"I'm going to spend several decades trying to figure out words for how that just made me feel," she said. "I'm trying to get it together. I've completely lost control over my brain -- and that's your fault."

She concluded, "I'm just gonna float through the rest of the show, so thanks for that."

Before that, amid the applause, Swift was captured looking shocked and moved in several videos on social media. While she stayed quiet, she could be seen shaking her head while mouthing things like, "Oh my God," "What do I do?" and "I have lost control of the crowd."

Tuesday marked Swift's fifth night at SoFi Stadium, her second-to-last performance on the first U.S. leg of her tour. She'll wrap up in Los Angeles with a final bow on Wednesday, Aug. 9, before kicking off her international dates on Aug. 24 in Mexico City, Mexico.

While celebrities have attended The Eras Tour in droves all across the country, Swift's L.A. performances have been particularly star-studded. Among her most recent concertgoers are Selena Gomez, Emma Stone, Charlize Theron, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Taylor Lautner, Cameron Diaz, Tiffany Haddish, Kevin Costner, Sophia Bush, Victoria Justice, Ashley Greene, Zoe Saldana, Sofia Richie, Haley Lu Richardson, Michelle Monaghan, Camilla Luddington, Mariska Hargitay, Courteney Cox and Kaia Gerber,  to name just a few .

It’s taken the UK’s great musical city of Liverpool to do it, but Taylor Swift was finally brought to tears by her fans on Saturday evening, as she performed her final concert there in front of a crowd of 60,000.

The singer had staged three shows at the Anfield stadium – more famous for its long association with Liverpool FC. The Daily Mail reports that Swift began looking “visibly emotional” while singing her 2020 hit Champagne Problems .

This moment came the same day as her ex-partner Joe Alwyn broke his silence on their long relationship being referenced in Swift’s most recent album The Tortured Poets Department .

The Saturday show saw Swift surprise the crowd with a fresh acoustic mash-up of her songs; this time it was Carolina and No Body No Crime , and also The Manuscript and Red .

The tour will continue in the UK with Swift heading to Cardiff on Tuesday before London later in the month.

Review: 'Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour' accentuates her gift for artistic reinvention

It's as a storyteller that Swift emerges as the best of her generation.

Deep bows to the Crown Princess of Pop, who turns "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" into the musical event of the movie year.

Here's the splashiest, swooniest, silliest and sweetest souvenir program ever for a concert film. And you can dance to it while belting yourself hoarse. As my friend Rob Sheffield wrote in Rolling Stone, "It'll make you sing, scream and sob." What's not to like?

Captured over three performances at Los Angeles' SoFi Stadium that ended the phenomenal seven-month U.S. leg of Swift's Eras Tour -- in-person overseas dates start in November -- this concert capture from director Samuel Wrench is no substitute for the thrill of live performance. But the camera brings us up close in a way that makes every seat the best seat in the house.

Shame on me for not seeing the movie in Eras cosplay or even a friendship bracelet, though her mostly female audience did just that as they hit the movie aisles to dance and sing with their idol decked out in dazzling gowns, boots and bodysuits.

For the ticket price of $19.89 (Taylor's birth year), you'll see Swift spend two hours and 45 minutes -- about half an hour short of the live shows -- zipping through the high points of her career with the help of singers, dancers, costume changes and eye-popping stagecraft.

Among the high points in this big-screen version of the concert: an opening medley of "Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince" and "Cruel Summer" that intros Her Highness like American royalty to a stadium of screaming fans and swaying smart-phone flashlights that evoke a rally ready to elect their leader by acclamation.

Another highlight: "The Man," in which Swift uses electropop and synths to explode the myth of power and conquest as a guy-thing wielded by the movie-star likes of Leonardo DiCaprio. "I'd be just like Leo in Saint Tropez," Swift sings, attacking the double standard with stinging conviction.

"All Too Well" reveals Swift onstage in a sparkling red gown and acoustic guitar to take on the 10-minute version of the ballad that tackles the subject of heartbreak. Swift delivers this aching cry from the heart like a one-act play, turning a stadium of nearly 8000 into a private conversation between just you and her.

"Illicit Affairs," sung during the most often quiet "Folklore" section of the concert from a cabin erected on stage, shows Swift letting loose on all who would treat her like a child as she sings with genuine threat, "Don't call me kid! Don't call me baby!"

"Champagne Problems," a superb song from "Evermore" that Swift wrote with her ex-lover, British actor Joe Alwyn, is staged as Swift sits at a moss-covered piano to describe the emotional fallout of a failed marriage proposal. On stage, the impact could be lost in spectacle. On screen, it's indelibly intimate, a stirring tribute to Swift's gifts as a storyteller.

And it's as a storyteller that Swift truly shines. Filmmaking is definitely next for Swift. She's just signed with Searchlight to helm her first feature. Her directing talent is evident in her videos for "All Too Well" and "The Man." And this time-capsule-worthy concert film beautifully accentuates her gifts for artistic reinvention.

"Our Song," from Swift's self-titled debut album in 2006, is one of the two "surprise" tunes she performs in the movie. And there's Swift, at 33, channeling the eager, awkward, country-singing teen she was in contrast to the cultural force she is now.

And the future? You leave "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" with the exhilarating feeling that she's just hitting her stride.

What Is Taylor Swift's Next Album & When Does It Release?

Who taylor swift's "betty" song is about & how it connects to ryan reynolds, how top gun: maverick's "unsafe" & "dangerous" training scene is realistic explained by real fighter pilot.

  • "Champagne Problems" is a song from Taylor Swift's 2020 album, evermore.
  • The song is about a college romance that ends with a rejected marriage proposal, exploring the heartbreak of both the man and woman involved.
  • The song is a fictional story created by Swift and her co-writer, Joe Alwyn, and has become a fan favorite, often performed during her live concerts.

One of the several songs that Taylor Swift sings during Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) is "champagne problems" from evermore , which contains complex lyrics that seemingly have a deeper meaning. The concert film, directed by Sam Wrench and produced by Swift, premiered in theaters in October 2023 and was a massive triumph. Over the course of its theatrical run, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour became the highest-grossing concert movie of all time after earning over $260 million at the box office, surpassing Justin Bieber: Never Say Never (which grossed $99 million) with ease.

Swift's recording-breaking concert tour, the Eras Tour, features the pop star taking her fans on a journey through nine of her "eras," aka nine of her ten studio albums, and one surprise song acoustic set. Although two songs are still missing from Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) on Disney+, the streaming release of the hit film includes the majority of Swift's 44-song setlist, satisfying many fans after some tracks were left off the theatrical version. Thankfully, one of the most important songs from evermore — "champagne problems" — is still one of the movie's highlights.

What Is Champagne Problems About?

A longtime college romance & failed marriage proposal.

Taylor Swift released "champagne problems" as the second track of 2020's evermore — the third album Swift officially owned . During a typical Eras Tour show, the pop star performs "champagne problems" on a moss-covered piano following "'tis the damn season," "willow," and "marjorie" while she is in the evermore act of the concert (although Disney+ omitted "'tis the damn season" from Taylor Swift: The Era's Tour (Taylor's Version) ).

Swift picked the track for her setlist because "champagne problems" is one of the most popular songs from her ninth studio album, partly because of its heart-wrenching lyrics and powerful bridge that fans get to scream out at the Eras Tour. Some of the first chorus' lyrics include:

Your mom's ring in your pocket My picture in your wallet Your heart was glass, I dropped it Champagne problems

The tear-inducing number chronicles a doomed college romance that ends with a rejected marriage proposal. The couple that "champagne problems" is about has, assumingly, been together for a long time, but when the man proposes to the woman, she turns him down, leaving everyone speechless. The woman takes responsibility for the heartbreak and her explanation for her refusal can be explained in the bridge:

Sometimes you just don't know the answer 'Til someone's on their knees and asks you

The couple breaks up after she rejects his proposal, and the woman promises the man that he will find the right person for him (and that it's not her) in "champagne problems." However, while the evermore track describes the man's heartbreak, it also depicts the woman's pain and grief as she explains how her own personal troubles got in the way of her saying yes to her lover. She describes them as "champagne problems," a saying for when someone encounters an issue that is minuscule in comparison to more significant worries for less privileged people in the world.

Champagne Problems Is Fictional

It is not about taylor swift & joe alwyn.

Even though Taylor Swift has a way of making all the lyrics in her songs seem personal and real, the story in "champagne problems" on evermore is fictional. While the lyrics in songs like "All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor's Version)" are inspired by Swift's breakups in real life, the evermore track is not based in reality. Swift wrote the song with Joe Alwyn (who is credited under the pseudonym William Bowery on the track listing) while they were still dating, but the lyrics are not about their relationship.

Swift's folklore and evermore , which the singer-songwriter describes as "sister records," allowed her to write about fictional tales, while also fitting in some lyrics pertaining to her personal life, of course. Inside evermore 's album booklet, Swift's prologue reveals that she "loved the escapism [she] found in these imaginary/not imaginary tales." The pop star also describes "champagne problems" as:

"The one where longtime college sweethearts had very different plans for the same night, one to end it and one who brought a ring."

So, it's safe to say that Swift's "champagne problems" features a story about a doomed romance that she and Alwyn concocted in their minds. Perhaps the evermore song was a sign of things to come for Swift and Alwyn's relationship, as they broke up in early 2023, a couple of years following the album's release. For all intents and purposes, though, "champagne problems" is a tragic but fictional love story.

Taylor Swift's 11th studio album already has a scheduled release date, with the tracklist & editions also being confirmed before ending The Eras Tour.

Champagne Problems Is (Probably) Not About Gilmore Girls' Rory & Logan

The gilmore girls fan theory.

One of the more popular fan theories surrounding the meaning behind "champagne problems" on evermore ( Taylor Swift's ninth released album ) is that it revolves around Rory Gilmore and Logan Huntzberger's love story in the popular comedy-drama television series Gilmore Girls . The relationship between the two fictional characters played out in a similar fashion to the people depicted in Swift's sentimental ballad.

The beauty of Swift's music is that she can somehow make those who listen to her songs relate to the lyrics, despite how specific they might be or whether they have gone through what the song is describing.

Rory and Logan met at Yale and fell in love throughout Gilmore Girls seasons 5 and 6. However, during the penultimate episode of Gilmore Girls , he proposes to her, and she rejects him. Several years later, Rory and Logan resumed their romance (while cheating on their significant others) in the Netflix revival Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life . But fans apply the lyrics of "champagne problems" to the college years of the relationship. Nevertheless, Swift has never confirmed that the evermore track is about Rory and Logan nor is there any strong evidence to prove so.

Taylor Swift performs a song called "Betty" during Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour and the inspiration behind the lyrics relates to Ryan Reynolds.

What Taylor Swift Has Said About Champagne Problems

Playing the song is cathartic.

Given its popularity among her fanbase, Taylor Swift chose "champagne problems" as one of the songs she performs during Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) on Disney+. Years before the record-breaking worldwide concert tour, though, Swift spoke about the process of writing "champagne problems" for evermore and the meaning behind the lyrics with Zane Lowe for Apple Music . A few days following evermore 's debut, the pop star explained:

"Joe [Alwyn] and I really love sad songs. We've always bonded over music ... 'champagne problems' was one of my favorite bridges to write ... I'm so excited to one day be in front of a crowd when they all sing, 'She would have made such a lovely bride, what a shame she's f**ked in the head.' I know it's so sad, but it's those songs like 'All Too Well,' performing the song 'All Too Well' is one of the most joyful experiences I ever go through when I perform live. So, when there's a song like 'champagne problems,' where you know it's so sad, you know that, but I love a sad song."

Swift believes that performing "champagne problems" is cathartic, as it's a heartbreaking song, but singing along with a stadium full of thousands of fans during the Eras Tour is somewhat comforting. Of course, it probably helps that the lyrics seemingly do not pertain to Swift's personal life. However, the beauty of Swift's music is that she can somehow make those who listen to her songs relate to the lyrics, despite how specific they might be or whether they have gone through what the song is describing. As a result, "champagne problems" is one of Taylor Swift's best (yet devastating) songs .

Champagne Problems Isn't The Only Fictional Taylor Swift Song

Speak now, stay stay stay, & folklore.

Despite her reputation for calling out former lovers in her lyrics, several Taylor Swift songs are fictional in nature. This is especially true regarding her writing on songs in both folklore and evermore . This was actually the main theme of folklore . However, many songs from her entire catalog are fictional and not about her personal life. One example is the 2010 title track from Speak Now . While that album had songs targeted at John Mayer and Taylor Lautner, the title track was just about a dream she had .

"Stay Stay Stay" from Red is a song about daydreaming of finding real love. This song isn't about someone Swift was ever with, but about wistful thinking and is completely fictional from that point of view. However, folklore's entire theme is that it is a batch of songs that remain fictional and separated from reality. The entire album has songs that see Swift going full-on with her storytelling and creating characters, even some that drift between songs. Taylor Swift even released a documentary film about the making of the folklore album.

Taylor Swift Atlanta Eras Tour

There’s no bad seat on Taylor Swift ‘s Eras Tour — especially if you’re fortunate enough to see her in a venue like Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, with its gorgeous halo screens in the round and wild three-night crowd that Swift truly seem to be enchanted to meet during this 52-date affair spanning her musical career.

The prolific singer-songwriter and powerhouse performer showed both sides of herself as an entertainer Saturday night (April 29), the second of a trio of concerts at the stadium. 65,639 people descended upon Atlanta — where signs on buildings read “A-Tay-L,” a play on ATL — for Swift’s April 29 show.

“Do you really wanna know where I was April 29th?” is no longer just a rhetorical question from Swift’s lyric book. On this date in Swift history, she’s now delivered the live debut of “High Infidelity,” the Midnights (3AM Edition) bonus track on which that lyric exists. April 29 is now a core memory for a whole lot of fans.

Taylor Swift

All the Surprise Songs Taylor Swift Has Performed on The Eras Tour (So Far)

The tour celebrates 10 album eras of Swift with a 44-song setlist. She powers through for more than three hours, pausing only for a quick set or wardrobe change, or — as was the case at this stop in Atlanta — to banter with the crowd before select songs.

Her debut album doesn’t typically find itself on her setlist, and it didn’t on April 29. But Swift’s country roots, circa her high school days, are showcased in her Fearless set, when she twirls with her guitar in hand and plays some of her biggest early hits.

While she performs songs from every other album in her discography, the four she had yet to ever tour with — 2019’s Lover , 2020’s Folklore and Evermore , and 2022’s Midnights — get a lot of attention. “Cruel Summer,” “‘Tis the Damn Season,” “Betty” and “Lavender Haze” are all ones not to be missed in her singalong stadium setting. And without giving too much away, “Vigilante Shit” might elicit the loudest roar.

Here are 13 of the best things to happen at Swift’s Saturday night show in Atlanta.

A Heavenly 'Marjorie' Experience

Swift’s “Marjorie,” an ode full of love for her late grandmother and the memories she holds of her, is emotional enough in its recorded state. Live, with a chorus of tens of thousands of voices singing with Swift (plus her grandmother’s actual vocals in the background), and their phone lights glimmering, the song becomes emotionally overwhelming. “My knees went weak,” Swift said.

“I physically felt that. It was so beautiful of you to do that … Wow. Oh my god,” said Swift, sitting at her Evermore -era piano, getting ready to introduce “Champagne Problems” after showing a teary-eyed reaction to the unexpected magic of “Marjorie” in a stadium.

But “Champagne Problems” would have to wait, due a tech issue, leaving a minute to marvel at what just happened with “Marjorie”: “What a perfect moment for my in-ears to just come unplugged magically,” she quipped.

Later, after talking her way through the in-ear problem with a joke, Swift insisted that the moment of levity was “not to take away from the really beautiful, heavenly thing you guys just did.”

Glitches and Forgetting Lyrics For the Win

Taylor Swift Atlanta Eras Tour

If Swift was at all stressing over the aforementioned, short-lived in-ear glitch, she didn’t show it. She corralled the Atlanta crowd’s attention Saturday night with a joke — more on that next — to fill in the sudden blank space in her otherwise impeccably-rehearsed set. The joke, whether you’ll find it funny or not, reminded fans of the superstar’s normal, very relatable disposition.

A moment like this, and a couple moments to come later on in the show where she’d charmingly flub a couple of her own lyrics during the night’s surprise songs section, brought a very big concert down to a more intimate level. Somehow, the small mistakes and Swift’s off-the-cuff reactions made the show even better, and a one-of-a-kind thing for those in attendance.

Taylor's 'Dad Joke From Hell'

“Oh, so it’s not just me, actually, this time. It’s not just me flailing too hard and unplugging my cord … It’s actually more of an infrastructure in-ears problem that we’re all having. So, while that is bad news, it’s nice to be joined in my pain, don’t you think?” Swift said to the April 29 audience.

Just when she thought the issue had been resolved, and she thanked and cheered on her sound crew, the glitch apparently happened again. She found herself with some more time to kill onstage and just went with it. “Should I tell jokes?” she asked.

And so it went: “OK, so, a cat walks into a library. And the cat says, ‘Yes, I’ll have some tuna fish, please.’ And the lady at the counter says, ‘Sir, this is a library.’ And the cat says, ‘Oh, I’m sorry. [ Whispers ] I’ll have some tuna fish, please.”

“I’m so sorry,” Swift said with a grin. “My in-ears are back, just at the perfect time because that was like the dad joke from hell. I’m so sorry.” That’s probably one she won’t repeat this tour.

The Best Era Transitions

When you’re a weekend music news editor, avoiding spoilers about a massive tour with mostly weekend dates just isn’t a thing. Having seen plenty of clips from The Eras Tour prior to finally catching the show in person this weekend, there’s been time to think about the best transitions between the many eras in Swift’s set. Some are really, really good.

Now having witnessed it in real life at Swift’s Atlanta stop — where the coolest set transition became very clear — for fun, here’s a ranked list of Eras Tour transitions to watch out for at a concert in your future, leading with the favorite at No. 1:

  • Evermore to Reputation (“Tolerate It” to “…Ready for It?”)
  • Folklore to 1989 (“Cardigan” to “Style”)
  • 1989 to surprise song (“Bad Blood” to the mystery song everyone’s eagerly awaiting)
  • Surprise song to Midnights (The undisclosed song to “Lavender Haze”)
  • Fearless to Evermore (“Love Story” to “‘Tis the Damn Season”)
  • Reputation to Speak Now (“Look What You Made Me Do” to “Enchanted”)
  • Red to Folklore (“All Too Well” to “The 1”)
  • Lover to Fearless (“The Archer” to “Fearless”)
  • Speak Now to Red (“Enchanted” to “22”)

More Than Just a Tour, It's a 'Whole Personality'

“This tour has become my entire personality,” Swift announced, in a genuine way, to her fans in Atlanta. Something tells us diehard Swifties can relate.

But Swift’s commitment to putting on an incredible show was very apparent this weekend. Concertgoers were overheard talking about being exhilarated but exhausted as they left the stadium, while Swift is actually the one performing 44 songs almost every weekend, for multiple days in a row.

She shows no signs of being anywhere but totally in Eras Tour-land when onstage. Just like there’s no bad seat in the house, there’s no chance she won’t be giving her all at every date to come. On Sunday night, she’d admit that she stays up for hours after every concert, thinking about the next one.

The Revival of 'Reputation'

Taylor Swift Eras Tour Atlanta

With Lover , Folklore , Evermore and Midnights all being brand-new to Swift’s touring production, there’s so much music to look forward to watching live for the first time. But Reputation lovers, rejoice: It’s one of the best parts of the show. When that snake slithers onto the stage screen, after the stirring Evermore era, the mood shifts drastically. The energy can’t be topped and fans go feral (in a good way) — maybe expressing a pent-up spark for live music that they’ve been missing since Swift’s last tour, which was in support of Reputation . Avoid timing a bathroom break during this era. In Atlanta, “…Ready for It?” and the rest of the Reputation set was powerful.

65,639 Voices Singing 'All Too Well' for 10 Minutes

Total attendance to the April 29 concert at Mercedes-Benz Stadium was 65,639. That’s potentially 65,639 people screaming along with Swift for 10 minutes to every word of “All Too Well,” and personally relating to it in some way. And in a way, the song that seemed to be one of her most personal breathes a new life when a stadium swells through the hurt in lines like “And I was thinking on the drive down, any time now/ He’s gonna say it’s love, you never called it what it was” and “And there we are again when nobody had to know/ You kept me like a secret, but I kept you like an oath” and “You said if we had been closer in age maybe it would have been fine/ And that made me want to die” from the Red (Taylor’s Version) release.

'August' Forever

Taylor Swift Atlanta Eras Tour

Although Billboard already highlighted “August” from the opener of the Eras Tour , the staging of a forever Folklore favorite — all wistful and romantic — continues to be flawless. It’s a beautiful time in the show, and a foundation of the Folklore set. Those lucky enough to have seats up front by the diamond area of the stage are in for a particularly special moment as Swift dashes across at the bridge of the song, but the view of “August” is lovely from all sections.

Knowing Exactly Where Taylor Swift Was on April 29

There’s that lyric in Swift’s “High Infidelity” that asks, “Do you really wanna know where I was April 29th?” Naturally, those attending the April 29 show in Atlanta had certain expectations that they might witness the track’s live debut during the part of the Eras set featuring two surprise acoustic songs. “High Infidelity” even trended on Twitter on Saturday morning, many hours before the concert began.

Swift acknowledged the date as she set herself up with a guitar at the end of the stage’s catwalk: In a special bit where she found herself rambling pre-song, she eventually teased, “I was thinking about what song to do tonight, and I was like, wait. I know it’s a Saturday, but what’s the date?”

Then she strummed her guitar and improvised, “Do you really wanna know where I was April 29th? Atlanta, Georgia,” before launching into the full song, with the crowd hanging on to to every word.

'Gorgeous' As a Sweet Piano Ballad

From “High Infidelity,” a song that some interpret as a reference to cheating, Swift went into “Gorgeous” on piano. On “Gorgeous,” she sings about meeting someone she’s attracted to while having “a boyfriend, he’s older than us/ He’s in the club doing I don’t know what.” Fans loved the seemingly clever thematic connection. “This is a song about the universal fact that you will act stupid around someone you think is hot,” she told the crowd of “Gorgeous.”

It was Swift’s first time performing a song from Reputation during her surprise songs set.

She joked that she thinks of Reputation as her “most metal album,” and thus more difficult to arrange its tracks as acoustic performances. But then she candidly noted to the audience, “That’s sort of weird for me to say because most of the songs on that album I started out writing just acoustic, so I should play one.”

This part of the set felt especially intimate in a full stadium, with Swift even relying on fans to help her remember the order of words on her “whisky on ice, Sunset and Vine” line. She restarted the song to get it right, so those sitting in or around section H on the floor got some priceless extra time to connect with her close-up.

Being One of the '12 People' Tracking Surprise Songs

Personal entertaining moment: Swift referenced that something like 12 people were out there keeping score of her Eras Tour surprise songs, something this editor has been doing since weekend one of the tour. See Billboard ‘s complete list of all the surprise songs so far right here . She also talked about folks making bets on the song selections each week, which is not happening here — but dear reader, if that’s you: Have the best time with that.

'Vigilante Shit' Burning It Down

Several weeks into the tour, the crowd is still going absolutely nuts for “Vigilante Shit.”

Swift, dancing on chairs with her crew like they’re straight out of a modern Cabaret , puts on quite the theatrical performance — and it’s the sexiest one of the night. Atlanta’s showing was no exception to this consistently excellent Eras act. If you can avoid any spoilers before her tour makes it your way, make it this steamy one.

'Midnight Rain' Really Happened

There’s something ’bout the way the street looks when it’s just rained, right?

It’s tough to keep track of just how many times Swift’s written lyrics about rain over the years, and it was fitting to flood out of the stadium into a cool rainfall after the heat of “Vigilante Shit” and the high of the night’s super fun closer, “Karma,” as the clock neared midnight.

Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” Is a Triumph of Spectacle and Stamina: Review

The post Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” Is a Triumph of Spectacle and Stamina: Review appeared first on Consequence .

As Taylor Swift ascended to the stage during the opening moments of  “The Eras Tour” (get tickets here ), she emerged from billowing clouds of soft-hued tapestry in a glittering rhinestone bodysuit. She presented herself as the sergeant-at-arms ready to take her infantry of Swifties into the great pop battle through the 10 eras of her 17-year career with 44 tracks over more than three hours.

The second weekend of “The Eras Tour” at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium on March 24th and 25th drew locals, Swifties who flooded the roads driving in from neighboring states, and international diehards from destinations far and wide. It had been a long time since Swift played Las Vegas and she broke the dry spell in a big way. As she took the stage for night three and four of “Eras”—a sold-out doubleheader in the desert — Swift rolled in a winner.

The orientation for this grand presentation was 2019’s Lover era, which included six songs: “Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince,” “Cruel Summer,” “The Man,” “You Need to Calm Down,” Lover,” and “The Archer.”

“We are about to go on a grand adventure,” Swift announced prior to performing “The Man.” “I’ll be your host this evening. My name is Taylor.” This was followed by a return to the familiar “Lover”-video dollhouse set, its rooms symbolizing each one of her albums. In “The Archer,” that house became engulfed in a rain of pyrotechnics—washing away in a blast of fire instead of water.

“Eras” was quite the adventure, as Swift promised. The show was loaded with heavy artillery from albums for which she has not yet toured, including 2019’s Lover , 2020’s Evermore and Folklore and 2022’s Midnights . Overall, the career highlight reel featured 12 live debuts. Those fresh moments were backed up by a smattering from Swift’s previous albums, tours and videos from eras including Taylor Swift (2006), Fearless (2008), Speak Now (2010), Red (2012), 1989 (2014), and Reputation (2017). The motifs, arrangements, costumes, dance moves and visuals drawn from those works were sometimes presented literally and at other times more nuanced and interpretive.

Despite the callback, for Swift, there is no time like the present and this era belongs to her. “The Eras Tour” aimed to engage all human senses, offering an extraordinary 4-D cognitive experience through its innovative stage design, cutting-edge visual mapping, and top-of-the-line production values that far surpassed most of today’s touring show standards.

The stage itself featured three separate platforms made of LED displays connected by a ramp — each equipped with mobile hydraulic blocks that form different shapes, creating those picture-perfect angles that Swift thrives on. It was a massive production with pyrotechnics, indoor fireworks, and image projection technology.

Whether alone or with her dozens of supporting talents, Swift dominated the football-field-long stage. In a true test of her stamina, she never broke during the three-plus hours for anything longer than a quick change.

The second era of the night was 2008’s Fearless , where she performed its title song as well as “You Belong With Me” and “Love Story,” a toe dip back into her transition from country to pop, represented by the soft golden glow of the iconic fringe dress and the lighting treatments. This was an homage to the pin-curled beauty queen with the guitar we first got to know way back when.

Era three, e vermore , featured standouts “Willow” and “Champagne Problems.” The staging consisted of massive oak-like trees while Swift sat at a moss-covered piano. She went thoroughly witchy during the cloaked “Willow” as her cadre danced around with orange-hued orbs. “I’ve been fantasizing about what [this will be like] to sing it with you,” she said during an introspective interlude before heading into “Champagne Problems” where she noted the moment, “I’m so in love with this crowd, I’m petting the moss.”

Throughout, Swift deftly balanced her goddess and huntress personas, showcasing both sides of her artistry. During her performance of “Willow” from evermore , she channeled “little Taylor riding hood,” while in era four’s Reputation , she embodied a captivating “snake charmer.” Her setlist included memorable performances of “…Ready for It?,” “Delicate,” “Don’t Blame Me,” and “Look What You Made Me Do,” a reminder of the time when she had to defend and establish herself among her peers. The unforgettable snake-wrapped microphone from 2017 reappeared, slithering up her one-legged bodysuit.

The fifth era, Speak Now , received only one nod with “Enchanted” before moving on to Red and folklore .

The crowd fell into a frenzy with Red ’s coming-of-age anthems “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” “I Knew You Were Trouble” and the 10-minute version of “All Too Well,” a sharp contrast to the seventh more ethereal and cottage-dwelling era of folklore , which packed seven songs and was one of the most prominently featured chapters of the night. The performers’ period attire during “The Last Great American Dynasty,” the funeral procession of “My Tears Ricochet,” and the woodsy isolation of “Cardigan” transported the audience back to the strange and isolating reality of the pandemic, which may have been too soon for some.

The biggest, baddest, boldest era was number eight, 1989 , as dancers rode neon-lit bicycles for “Blank Space”, and used blue-lit golf clubs to smash an animated car, then “Shake It Off,” erupted into a dance party followed by the intense and hot pyro display of “Bad Blood.”

While the ability to change up a tour like “Eras” city by city is virtually impossible because of its scale — Swift played to the Vegas crowd in a few ways they could really own. Built into each setlist is space for two surprise songs , which Swift has promised will be wholly unique for each show.

During her first night in Las Vegas, Taylor Swift approached the front of the stage with her guitar for an intimate moment and addressed the crowd, saying, “This is what I feel like playing, and I will decide based on what I hope you might want to hear. I aim to please, but I also get ideas from things.” Swift then referenced an interview she saw with beabadoobee, the Filipino-British singer-songwriter who opened the evening.

“For beabadoobee’s first show, I will play this specific song that she wants to hear. I wrote this for my 9th grade talent show,” Swift shared before launching into the rousing anthem “Our Song” from her debut album.

Swift then took a seat at a hand-painted floral upright piano for the night’s biggest surprise. “Lana Del Rey put out a new album today,” Swift remarked. “ Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd … it is so good — you probably already know that… It is just extraordinary. I think she is the best that we have and so make it a priority to stream, buy, support this album and this artist. She knows I am obsessed with her and she was kind enough to make a song with me on Midnights called ‘Snow on the Beach,’” Swift said.

“She is a generous king, she did that for me and I will never forget how nice she has been… I want to do some promo for her and in honor of this brilliant album she just put out, I’m going to play ‘Snow on the Beach.’”

The second night featured the first surprise guest of the tour as Marcus Mumford of Mumford & Sons popped up to do the live debut of “Cowboy Like Me” from 2020’s evermore . She also dusted off “White Horse” from  Fearless .

For the closing spectacle, Swift plunged into a virtual body of water that surrounded the stage, then swam underwater back to the main platform — thanks to the next-level production — before returning to perform more songs from her Midnights era. The crowd’s excitement remained high as she introduced new tracks such as “Anti-Hero,” “Midnight Rain,” “Vigilante Shit,” and “Karma,” which received the same level of enthusiastic reception as her previously played greatest hits.

Regardless of whether you are a fan of Taylor Swift, it’s impossible to deny the sheer magnitude, artistry, and technical prowess of this production. This greatest hits tour, undertaken during her commercial prime, is an unprecedented feat and could potentially earn over a billion dollars, making it the highest-grossing tour in world history.

The three-plus”Eras” hours became a marathon and at the end, the audience was in a state of utter exhausted euphoria. But a spectacle of this size does beg the question — once you go this big, where do you go from here?

Taylor Swift breaks down in tears on stage in emotional performance after split

Taylor Swift and her boyfriend of six years Joe Alwyn have reportedly split, with fans convinced her recent emotional performance was inspired by the breakup

eras tour champagne problems

  • 08:47, 10 Apr 2023

Taylor Swift broke down in tears while performing her hit song Champagne Problems during her Eras tour, with fans convinced it was related to her breakup with Joe Alwyn.

The singer, 33, and the British actor have reportedly gone their separate ways after six years together, with a source claiming the relationship had "ran its course".

Now fans have speculated that Taylor's very emotional performance in Glendale, Arizona, was related to the split.

In a TikTok video shared after the concert, the musician was seen tearing up as she played the hit song. Fans have taken to the comments section to share their thoughts.

"Now this hits different," one person wrote, with a broken heart emoji.

"OMG I JUST SAW THE NEWS I DONT BELIEVE IN LOVE ANYMORE," another fan commented. A third added: "If they really broke up, this video is so much sadder."

One fan speculated: "Joe cowrite champagne problems maybe that's also why she’s emotional on this particular songs."

"Now it makes more sense her crying after the news that she and Joe broke up," another penned.

Taylor's song Champagne Problems tells the story of a turned-down proposal and features lyrics such as: "I never was ready so I watch you go."

Taylor is said to be doing okay following her reported split from Joe, with a source saying it was very "amicable".

"The relationship had just run its course. It's why [Joe] hasn't been spotted at any shows," the insider added, with Page Six claiming that the pair broke up "a few weeks ago."

The pair hadn't been pictured together for about five months having last been spotted together in New York in October.

She and Joe got together shortly after her very public split from Tom Hiddleston.

Following her relationship with Tom, Taylor vowed to keep her romance with Joe private.

The pair never appeared on the red carpet together and stayed off each other's social media feeds.

In an interview with Vogue magazine in 2018, Joe spoke about Taylor: "I'm aware people want to know about that side of things. I think we have been successfully very private, and that has now sunk in for people."

Taylor Swift made a huge announcement at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night that shocked her fans.

Swifties who follow the pop star's iconic "Easter egg" hints to guess her next big announcement anticipated Miss Americana to announce the next re-record in her journey to owning her own music catalogue.

But those who expected Swift to announce "Reputation: Taylor's Version" were shocked when she revealed she's been working on a brand new album that she's kept a secret for two years.

Here's what we know about Taylor Swift's new album, "The Eras Tour" set list as of now, which concert will be the first following the release of the new album and what to know about Swift's Miami shows in October.

What's 'The Tortured Poets Department'?

According to Swift’s website and her announcement at The Grammys, her new album, "Tortured Poets Department," will feature 16 songs including one bonus track titled “The Manuscript.”

The album is now  available for preorder on her website . There will be several versions of the album available for purchase, including a CD, cassette, vinyl and digital album. Along with the standard edition,  there will also be a special collector’s edition deluxe CD that includes a collectible 20-page booklet.

What are the newest dates for the 2024 Taylor Swift Eras Tour in North America?

Oct. 18-20:  Miami, Hard Rock Stadium

Oct. 25-27:  New Orleans, Caesars Superdome

Nov. 1-3:  Indianapolis, Lucas Oil Stadium

Nov. 14-16 ,  Nov. 21-23 : Toronto, Rogers Centre

Where is Hard Rock Stadium in Miami?

Hard Rock Stadium actually is not in Miami. It's at 347 Don Shula Drive Suite 102, Miami Gardens, and will be the site of Taylor Swift’s Florida concert in 2024.

The last time Swift performed at Hard Rock Stadium was on her 2018 Reputation Tour. Another tie to Hard Rock Stadium for swift is that her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, won the Super Bowl therein 2020.

Is there any way to get Taylor Swift tickets?

Tickets to all three of the Miami dates for Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” sold out soon after they were posted via Ticketmaster  back in September . Resale tickets are available via  StubHub  and  SeatGeek .

The catch? A majority of these tickets are sold by scalpers above face value, ranging from $1,500 to $10,000 for seats.

What can I bring inside Hard Rock Stadium?

Hard Rock Stadium allows fans  one bag that is clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and does not exceed 12” by 6” and 12” or a one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar). In addition to one of the clear bags noted above, fans may also carry in a small clutch bag or purse approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap.

Items such as smartphones, binoculars, and cameras will still be permitted into the stadium. This policy is meant to speed up the process of entering the stadium along with increasing security measures.

What is the parking situation for Hard Rock Stadium?

The stadium does feature an extensive parking system with over 26,500 official car parking spaces, yet officials recommend advanced booking for anyone seeking a hassle-free parking experience.

To purchase parking at the Hard Rock stadium, check out their  website  here.

Locals also note to bring cash since parking can be found in surrounding neighborhoods and businesses in the area.

Who is Taylor Swift's opening act, Gracie Abrams?

Abrams, 23, is a singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, California, and is the daughter of director J.J. Abrams. She saw critical acclaim for her first two EPs — “This is What It Feels Like" and "Minor" — as well her 2023 debut album Good Riddance. Prior to Swift, she opened up for fellow artist Olivia Rodrigo on her debut Sour tour.

Abrams was also up for the "Best New Artist" Grammy but lost to R&B songstress, Victoria Monét.

I can't get tickets to the Eras Tour. How else can I see it?

If you missed the Eras Tour the first time in Tampa or when it hit theaters back in October, you're in luck.

The concert movie is available to rent for $19.89 – a nod to the year she was born and her album – on  Apple TV ,  Vudu ,  Amazon Prime Video ,  Xfinity ,  Google Play  and  YouTube . The rental is for 48 hours.

Even if you have subscriptions to Apple TV, Amazon Prime or any of the others listed above, you still have to pay to rent it.
