Much of the real Goa is seen inside its buildings and in the hinterland, away from the coastal area. In the morning you’ll visit the Panjim City. The oldest monument in Panjim is the Adil Shah’s Palace, and enjoy panoramic views of Panjim. The afternoon’s tour takes you to Miramar Beach and on to Dona Paula. The Dona Paula Bay overlooks Marmagoa, the largest natural harbor in India, and the Arabian Sea. On the return you’ll drive down through Fountainhes to Old Goa, the heartland of ancient Christianity. See the bustling city of Mapusa, noted for its colorful Friday market. In the evening drop back to hotel and overnight at the Hotel.

Day 5: Depart Goa After breakfast, check-out approx 12:00 PM from the hotel and transfer to the airport or railway station or bus stands for your onward journey.

Goa is a destination that every Indian traveler wants to visit. Whether it is for a weekend or a week, people love coming to Goa to enjoy the laid back life, sun, sand, and great food.

How to Get There

A tourist destination, Goa can be reached by air, rail or road from Delhi.

The quickest way to get to Goa from Delhi is by flight. A flight to Goa takes around 2 hours to reach. Fares are generally in the range of Rs.2,000 to Rs.3,000. However, during the peak tourist season, fares can go up.

There are no direct buses to Goa from Delhi. But, you can take a flight to either Pune or Mumbai and from there board a bus to Goa.

There are direct trains from Delhi to Goa. You can take the Thiruvananthapuram Rajdhani Express. The journey will take you around 25 hours.

While most people opt to fly down to Goa, a true traveler will always pick the long way around and head down to Goa by road. Although the route is long,  there is so much fun to be had and places to see if you are driving down to Goa. Also, you don’t have to deal with the pesky private cab drivers in Goa if you have your car with you.

Best Time To Visit

The best time to visit Goa is during the tourist season, from October to March. This is the period when Goa is buzzing with nightlife, parties, and beach shacks. You can go during the rest of the year, too, but many of the best places are closed.

Route to Goa from Delhi

The only route to Goa from Delhi is via the National Highway 48. This route is very long, so you will have to make stopovers at many places. We have noted down some fabulous attractions and places to see if you driving down to Goa via this route.

Since this route is long, you might want to make pit stops in between. Since you will be stopping over at many places, we suggest that you visit these places along your Delhi to Goa road trip.

  • Kishangarh Fort:  A towering structure in the town of Kishangarh, it is the pride of the town, even as it lies in ruins.
  • Rewari Steam Locomotive Shed & Rail Museum:  This museum displays a few old iconic Indian trains including the Fairy Queen train that sometimes plies between Delhi and Rewari.
  • Harni Mahadev:  The pond near this Shiva temple is a good place to take a break from your journey. There are a few shops and snack counters selling food nearby.
  • Meera Temple:  Occupying a prime spot inside the Chittorgarh Fort, the Meers Temple is built entirely of stone. Go here to feast your eyes on typical medieval architecture.
  • Meja Dam:  A great place if you are looking to make a pit stop. Spend about 30 minutes enjoying the fresh air and serene ambiance of the river.
  • Vyas Dal Bati:  This restaurant is famous for its Dal Bhat, a traditional Indian meal of steamed rice and lentils. Stop over here for some sumptuous Dal Bhat cooked in traditional Indian style.
  • Malegaon:  While driving through Malegaon stop by the food stalls on the highway to enjoy a Vada Pav and Misal Pav, local Maharashtrian snacks.
  • Bedse Caves:  These historic caves are worth exploring for any traveler. Check out the lovely stone carvings on the walls of the caves.
  • Kayani Bakery:  Stop by at this iconic bakery to enjoy yummy Shrewsbury biscuits and almond macaroons.
  • JJ Garden Vada Pav:  If you are looking to sample some excellent vada pav, the JJ Garden Vada Pav stall is among the best in Pune.
  • Thoseghar Waterfall:  A little away from the highway in Satara, the Thoseghar Waterfalls has a fantastic scenery.

Safety Measures

Although the roads from Delhi to Goa are pretty good, the route is long. You have two options; take a one-day break at any of the places along the route or get someone to share the driving duties with you. Since the journey is long, make sure your vehicle is in tip-top shape. Fill up the gas tank before you leave.

So, as you can see there are plenty of things to see along this route if you are willing to make stopovers and take a few detours. If you are an experienced driver you can do the journey in about a day and a half.
