Cebu Travel Catalogue Int’l 2023 offers cheap flights, thrilling tour packages

IRENE SINO-CRUZ

Do you have plans of visiting places you dreamt of going to? Here’s your chance to fulfil your dreams.

The upcoming Cebu Travel Catalogue International (CTCI) 2023 once again offers cheap flights and thrilling tour packages.

Now on its 7 th year, the CTCI 2023 highlights the resiliency of the travel and tourism industry even as it fuels the spark of post-pandemic revenge travel, a testament that reliable travel partners stay with you every step of the way in the travel show and beyond, according to a statement from the Cebu Travel and Tours Alliance (CTTA), the organizer of the event.

C:\Users\GCPI-ROBBY\Desktop\LILU\L3.jpg

According to CTTA president Joan Tiu, the CTCI is now on its 7 th year of boosting travel and tour industry in a 3-day showcase of exceptional deals and travel packages to local and international destinations.

“This year, the vibrant CTCI 2023 will take everyone on an enjoyable ride from February 10 to 12, 2023 at the Ayala Cebu with the theme “Escape, Explore, Enjoy!.” Expect more opportunities to escape to fulfil your travel dreams, explore wherever you want to go, enjoy every moment,” Ms. Tiu told reporters and bloggers.

The tourism stakeholders in Cebu has been successful in pushing for revenge travel after the pandemic adversely affected the tourism industry, noted CTCI chairperson Angelita “Baby” Dy.

“Now more and more travel restrictions have eased in popular local and international destinations. This is an exciting prospect for all on the road to recovery, and the Cebu Travel Catalogue International 2023 is yet another milestone for the travel and tour industry,” Ms. Dy pointed out.

C:\Users\GCPI-ROBBY\Desktop\IRENE SINO CRUZ STOCK ARTICLE\B.jpg

The CTCI will also feature performances alongside a guided exhibit tour, exciting onstage activities with special guests, a daily raffle draw, the much awaited travel show mini-concert and the travel auction. Top airlines, hotels and resorts, and travel and tour companies are showcasing remarkable packages and special offers, she added.

The CTTA will continue to exert efforts and explore the road to recovery, turning passions into reality again, Ms. Dy said.

Meanwhile, Ms. Riza Macaibay, senior tourism operations officer of the Department of Tourism Central Visayas, noted the increase in tourist arrivals, mostly domestic, last year.

Ms. Macaibay said that the advocacy of DOT-7 before the borders were opened to international tourists was to start with domestic tourism.

“We saw the potential and growth of our domestic tourism last year with the efforts of our local leaders in the (Cebu) province and cities of Lapu-Lapu and Cebu. We really saw last year there was a very big increase. The domestic tourism was really the lifeblood of our tourism industry,” she said.

From January 2022 to September 2022, tourist arrivals in Central Visayas reached 2.2 million, Ms. Macaibay said. The bulk of arrivals of around 1.8 million, between 70 to 80 percent, are domestic and foreign tourists are over 300,000.

Cebu alone recorded 1.8 million tourists, with the domestic visitors reaching 1.5 million and foreign tourists at 370,000, she said. The DOT-7 has projected the total number of tourists in 2022 could reach about three million.

C:\Users\GCPI-ROBBY\Desktop\LILU\L5.jpg

On the other hand, Ms. Alice Queblatin, president of the Cebu Alliance of Tourism Operations Specialists (CATOS), pointed at the importance of developing inbound traffic through the establishment of new connections to other places such as Zamboanga and Tawi-Tawi and the strengthening of connections between Cebu and Cotabato.

Ms. Queblatin cited statistics from the Mactan Cebu International Airport showing that there was a 300-percent increase in the number of people coming from Mindanao going to Cebu.

“We would like to explore and create packages that link us to our Mindanao brothers,” she said. On the newly opened route of Cebu to Baguio, she revealed that they are getting inquiries and small arrivals from Baguio.

CATOS is also aligning their programs according to the thrust of the Department of Tourism, which will conducting familiarization tours for their counterparts from other areas.

The association will also continue their strong partnership with the island destinations of Boracay and El Nido, she added.

Very commendable quality of service! It was our first time to travel together as a family and our first time also to experience the southern part of Cebu. We truly had a great bonding time, especially my parents. My father is not that fit and fun of long hours of travel and knowing him, he easily gets irritated and exhausted due to his health condition. But I was amazed and glad to see him enjoying the 15-hour south cebu tour. Thank you so much for the comfy and entertaining ride Kuya Marvin! We really appreciate how you guided us during the tour and how much you are very willing to cater all our requests and needs. Thank you also for the last minute recommendation for our bohol tour. We also enjoyed our Bohol trip with Kuya Joel. You even asked us if we are already onboard with him. We would really recommend Go Cebu Travel and Tours to our friends who are going to visit Cebu. Till our next Cebu adventure!

Cebu Travel Guide 2024: Itinerary, Budget, Things to Do, Tourist Spots, More

Traveling to Cebu? This Cebu Travel Guide 2024 is the only manual you need to plan your trip to the nature adventure capital of the Philippines.

Cebu is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the Philippines , alongside El Nido , Coron , and Boracay . With its white sand beaches, stunning waterfalls, world-class dive sites, beginner-friendly mountains, and so many unique things to do, it is no surprise.

👉 Get Klook’s Cebu Pass to access Cebu’s top attractions! 👈

If you have heard about Cebu, you’re probably thinking of canyoneering in Badian , sardine running in Moalboal , and swimming with giant whale sharks in Oslob . These are fun outdoor activities in Cebu that will make your visit memorable. But if you’re looking for more, there’s more to Cebu.

If you want to explore the best of Cebu, use this Cebu Travel Guide as your manual.

Badian Cebu Canyoneering

WHAT'S IN THIS POST?

How to Plan Your Cebu Trip

This Cebu Travel Guide is a product of more than a decade of experience exploring Cebu. By the end, you should have a good idea about traveling to Cebu as I cover the following aspects:

  • Best time to go to Cebu
  • How to get to Cebu
  • Getting around Cebu
  • Best things to do
  • Top tourist spots
  • How to get there
  • Where to stay
  • What to eat
  • Where to eat
  • Internet in Cebu
  • Cebu nightlife
  • Cebu itinerary
  • Cebu budget

Most tourists explore Cebu for 3-7 days, which I believe is very short given what it has to offer. However, if you want to experience all the best of Cebu , I recommend staying for at least 10 days.

The best way to plan your Cebu itinerary is to divide it into two parts: South Cebu and North Cebu .

South Cebu is where you can find Moalboal , Badian , and Oslob . It’s also known for breathtaking waterfalls and mountains, which are great for day hikes.

North Cebu, meanwhile, is where you can find Bantayan Island , Malapascua Island , and Camotes Island . It is more popular for relaxation as it has dozens of white sand beaches. North Cebu also has well-known outdoor activities, including thresher shark diving.

Both North and South Cebu have several good dive sites.

Moalboal Sardine Run

Best Time to Visit Cebu

The best time to visit Cebu depends on what you want to do and what you want to experience. In general, there’s no bad time to visit Cebu. But if you want to understand how our weather works and what events you can enjoy, here are some answers to your questions.

When is Cebu’s peak season?

Cebu’s peak season is in January due to the annual Sinulog Festival , the biggest religious festival in the Philippines. A few days before the festival, which happens on the 3rd Sunday of January, most hotels are fully booked. Booking flights and ferry trips to Cebu closer to the festival day can also get a little bit difficult.

December is also another peak season in the Philippines. It’s common for Filipinos from abroad and those who live/work in the city to return to their hometowns to celebrate the holiday season. Typically, this phenomenon happens between December 15 and January 1 .

Sinulog Season

It’s also important to note that Cebu is a jump-off point for other provinces in the Philippines, which is why it’s dubbed “the gateway to a thousand journeys.” Expect flights and ferry trips to be fully booked for a few days around Christmas time.

Christmas holiday rush in Cebu

In fact, in December 2022, I was not able to go back to my hometown for Christmas because all direct flights and ferry trips were booked. It happened to me again in December 2023 because I just never learned.

What months are typhoons in Cebu?

According to the weather bureau PAGASA , almost 70% of typhoons in the Philippines occur from July to October .

Note that transportation, especially airplanes and ferries, is highly dependent on the weather. In the worst case, you might experience canceled trips due to unfavorable weather conditions. Don’t fret! Your safety should always come first.

cebu travel catalogue 2023

What is the weather like in Cebu?

The Philippines has two seasons: rainy (tag-ulan) and summer (tag-init). The rainy season is from June to November, while the summer is from December to May. Nevertheless, the weather in the Philippines can be tricky and could throw a curveball on your travel plans no matter what. It’s important to prepare yourself and be flexible.

For example, when it’s rainy season, it doesn’t mean it’s not sunny and hot anymore. In the same way, when it’s summer season, it doesn’t mean it doesn’t rain.

In Cebu, April is the driest month of the year. May is the warmest month, with an average temperature of 26.8°C or 80.3°F. Meanwhile, January is the coldest, with an average temperature of 25.0°C or 77.0°F.

October is the wettest month in Cebu, so if you want to avoid the rainy season, avoid it. However, rain or drizzles could still occur even in the driest months.

What is the best month to visit Cebu?

The best months to visit Cebu are from December to May. Hot, humid weather in the Philippines usually begins in the latter part of March and ends at the end of May, which means these are the country’s driest and hottest months of the year.

Most websites recommend the months between December and May. I wouldn’t necessarily object. However, I must remind you that December is still pretty rainy and “stormy.” Many of the most destructive typhoons in the Philippines happened in December.

Typhoon aftermath in Malapascua Island, Cebu

January to the first half of March is generally okay. But expect that there would still be rain here and there.

Driest and hottest don’t always mean it’s the best option. Summer days during these months can be unbearably hot for people not used to this scorching climate.

You might think these months are bearable for locals who have lived in the Philippines all their lives. It’s a misconception! It’s honestly a nuisance for many of us.

We navigate through these hottest months by going to the mall, swimming at the nearest pools or beach, or staying indoors where there’s air conditioning or a fan.

What do you wear in Cebu?

Breathable clothes made from materials like cotton, linen, silk, and bamboo are best for hot and humid weather in the Philippines. It’s generally hot in Cebu throughout the year with a mean annual temperature of 27.1°C or 80.78°F, so bring light clothes (tank tops, shorts, T-shirt, etc.).

There are “cold” places in the Philippines, but nothing crazy, especially if you come from places with snow. For example, the coldest city in the Philippines is Baguio in Benguet.

Baguio City’s average annual temperature is 20.6 °C or 69.0 °F. The lowest temperature recorded in Baguio in the summer of 2024 is 12.8 °C. If you come from cold regions, that should be bearable.

How many days is enough in Cebu?

As I mentioned, most tourists spend 3-7 days in Cebu. However, I believe you need at least 10 days to explore the best of Cebu , including Moalboal, Badian, Oslob, and the rest of South Cebu. If you want to explore the depths of Cebu, I recommend spending at least 10 days here to experience all its world-class attractions.

If you are still planning your trip to Cebu, check out our Cebu Itinerary for 7 Days and 6 Nights and explore more itineraries .

Which part of Cebu is the best to stay in?

If you plan to stay longer or are a digital nomad or remote worker needing a reliable internet connection daily, staying in Cebu City is optimal. Popular places to visit in Cebu , such as Moalboal and Oslob, are only 3-4 hours bus ride away.

The best areas to live in the city would be Cebu IT Park , where I’ve been based for three years now, and Cebu Business Park. These well-maintained CBDs have pretty much everything you need, such as fitness gyms, coffee shops, fast-food restaurants, hotels, malls, coworking spaces, and public transportation. Bars are also within reach.

Cebu IT Park

Alternatively, some tourists stay in the downtown area. Fuente Osmeña Circle or Mango Avenue (officially known as General Maxilom Avenue) are good options if you want to be close to Mango, Cebu’s well-known red-light district, and historical sites such as Fort San Pedro and Basilica del Santo Niño .

If you don’t like to stay in the city and would rather live near the most popular attractions, Moalboal is your best option. From there, you can visit Badian (canyoneering) and the rest of South Cebu, where waterfalls are quite common.

Panagsama Beach Moalboal Cebu Philippines

Moalboal is a more developed tourist destination with dozens of options for accommodations, restaurants, coffee shops, and cafés. If you are looking for good nightlife, Moalboal is pretty vibrant, especially on weekends and holidays. It also has that island life vibe you might be looking for.

Bantayan Island and Malapascua Island are great options if you are looking for rest and relaxation away from the city. These islands now have decent internet connections and mobile data signals.

How to Get to Cebu

There are two ways to get to Cebu: by plane or ferry. Depending on where you come from in the Philippines, your only option might be a plane or ferry.

If you are coming overseas, the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) serves various international flights. Find out all the details below!

Air travel is the most convenient way to reach Cebu. From Manila and Clark, Pampanga, you can take a one-hour flight on Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific Air, or Air Asia.

If you are coming from other tourist destinations such as Coron, El Nido, Puerto Princesa, Siargao, and Boracay, there are regular hour-long flights, too. Boutique airlines Sunlight Air and AirSwift also have flights to Cebu from select destinations.

Getting Around Cebu

Transportation can be daunting for tourists in general. But if you try to learn the basics, you will get used to it.

In Cebu City and neighboring cities, the main modes of transportation are modern jeepneys, traditional jeepneys, taxis, and habal-habal (motorcycle taxis). There are also buses that transport passengers to certain parts of Metro Cebu.

Jeepneys are usually packed, especially during rush hours. If you are not comfortable with it, use the ride-hailing app Grab (an Uber counterpart) or motorcycle taxis (habal-habal) like Move It, Angkas, JoyRide, and Maxim. These services can take you around Cebu’s tri-cities Cebu City, Mandaue City, and Lapu-Lapu City, to as far as Talisay City, Minglanilla, Naga, Consolacion, and Liloan.

If you visit tourist towns in Cebu like Moalboal , Badian , and Oslob , vans and buses are available throughout the day. When visiting islands like Bantayan Island and Camotes Island , you need to take a bus or van and then a ferry. To get to smaller islands like Malapascua Island and Sumilon Island , you need to take a bangka (outrigger boat).

To get around smaller towns and islands, tricycles and habal-habal are the most common mode of transportation. However, you can also rent a scooter for 300-500 PHP (~6-10 USD) per day if you want to explore places at your own pace. There are car rentals and chartered vehicles with drivers to take you around Cebu.

For more information about the different modes of transportation in Cebu, read the article Transportation in Cebu: How to Get Around Cebu !

So where should I stay in Cebu ? That is a top question, and one not easily answered, since there are so many gorgeous luxury hotels, relaxing resorts, and hedonistic hostels. Let’s see what we can do!

Moalboal is a must-visit on the island. It’s where you want to be as a tourist. You’ll find picture-perfect beaches, and it’s a great base for visits to Cebu tourist spots, like the Kawasan Falls. Most people will head here as soon as they can.

where to stay in Cebu

Cebu City is the oldest city in the Philippines. The city may not be as aesthetically pleasing as some of the other parts of Cebu Island, but it’s a thriving metropolis in an unexpected region of the world. And while there are tourist attractions and things to see, you won’t want to spend much more than a day here. Great Airbnbs though.

Mactan Island is a dream island for underwater enthusiasts. Located adjacent to Cebu City, and connected by bridges, you can find some amazing snorkelling and diving here.  Also known as Lapu-Lapu, this island features white-sand beaches, enchanting marine life, and resorts that suit every type of budget, Mactan has everything!

You can also head to the northern tip of the island at Malapascua. This off-the-radar paradise is home to lavish lagoons and lush jungles, all tied together by exceptionally friendly locals and some truly special places to stay .

It’s only 3 minutes from the Ayala Center Cebu, and a selection of great restaurants. The Sirao Garden | Mountain View Nature Park | The Temple of Leah | The Kabang Falls | Cebu Taoist Temple | The Carbon Market

To get you warmed up, I’ve collected the very best in and around Cebu City. There’s a lot to explore, and it’ll give you a great taste of the culture on offer here. Prepare for a top-tier Cebu City day!

You should make the journey to Moalboal in the evening, so get somewhere to stay here !

8:00 am – The Sirao Garden

cebu travel catalogue 2023

Okay, for this one we’re going to need you to be a little spritely. Located around half an hour from Cebu City, this is the largest journey you’ll make in the day, and slowly wind your way through an excellent array of attractions back to the city.

The Sirao Gardens are dubbed the ‘little Amsterdam’ of Cebu and are a fantastic insta-worthy spot on the island. It comes with amazing mountain views, pretty flowers, and some generally more questionable attractions (like windmills). If you love pretty places and snapping sensational photos, then this is a great first stop on your Cebu itinerary.

The road here is generally considered a little bit dodgy, but many people do it every year! If you’re driving yourself, remember to take extra care. There’s a viewing deck too.

Enjoy Cebu to the fullest on this tour .  Learn about the history of the Temple of Leah and the Taoist Temple. Explore the beautiful and instagrammable landscapes of Busay Highlands.

The epic landscape on Cebu Island has attracted people from around the world. Mountain View Nature Park is tucked in Cebu’s mountainside and in a popular area called Busay. As the name suggests, you will see some of the very best views in the whole of Cebu from Mountain View Nature Park!

Busay has become renowned for its awe-inspiring natural beauty. It is enveloped with indigenous fauna and flora, waterfalls, natural pools and wildlife, encapsulating the magic that mother nature provides. From the mountaintops of Busay, you can see a panoramic view of Cebu City and the surrounding towns.

11:30 am – The Temple of Leah

The temple of leah

Next up is the unbelievable Temple of Leah, only a 7-minute walk from the previous attraction! This is one of the top architectural constructions on the island. Very Cool!

The Temple of Leah was originally constructed in 2012. It’s a new building that tells an ancient story!  The temple has been built as a shrine to symbolize the undying love and ceaseless devotion that Teodorico Soriano Adarna has for his late wife of 53 years, Leah Villa Albino-Adarna.

The temple was designed to look timeless, channelling the Greek and Roman styles. It is intended to last the ages, hopefully, this beautiful structure does.

After you’ve seen the Temple of Leah, head up to “La Vie in the Sky restaurant” for some unreal views across Cebu city whilst you eat lunch. If you fancy something cheaper, there are loads of great options around!

Enjoy Cebu to the fullest on this tour . Learn about the history of the Temple of Leah and the Taoist Temple. Explore the beautiful and instagrammable landscapes of Busay Highlands and more!

  • Cost: Entrance is free
  • How long should I spend there: It shouldn’t take more than an hour to see.
  • Getting there: Walk down the hill from the last stop! 7 minutes. I promise.

1:30 pm – The Kabang Falls

cebu travel catalogue 2023

What does everyone need after lunch? A nice hike! Yes. Feel free to switch this out with the Terrazas de Flores Botanical Gardens for a much more relaxed post-lunch experience.

Kabang Falls is a must-see attraction that is found within Budlaan in Cebu City. One of the intriguing parts of this stunning waterfall is that it is only accessible from the city.

Reconnect with nature by hiking up to Kabang Falls. Once you arrive it’s so much fun to just dive into the fresh water and laze on the rocks, soak in some sun and refresh yourself after a long day with the soothing surroundings of nature and the flowing energy of the waterfall.

Insider Tip: Pack water with you the weather is hot here and you will want to stay hydrated!

  • Cost: The habal-habal ride will cost around 70 – 75 PHP ($1.70 USD)
  • How long should I spend here? Around an hour and a half. Bring some snacks and a drink? Don’t litter.
  • Getting there: It’s a 13-minute drive from the Temple of Leah. Taxies are pretty easy to grab around there!

3:30 pm – Cebu Taoist Temple

Cebu Taoist Temple

Check out some amazing Chinese architecture at the Cebu Taoist Temple. A truly awesome place to hang out!

Many Chinese temples have beautiful gardens and placid streams, but the Cebu Taoist Temple will also greet you with an eye-catching giant dragon! The dragon is a famous symbol in China for its good luck, strength, and power. This important building was erected by Cebu’s substantial Chinese community back in 1972, and is composed of two gorgeous temples!

The two temples here are the Phu Sian Temple (which unfortunately is not open to the public), and the Main Temple that is a little walk to get to, being 270 meters above sea level. There are 181 steps leading up to the temple. These steps were originally made to represent the 81 scriptures of Taoism.

The entrance to the temple is a replica of the Great Wall of China, and within the serene grounds you will also find a library, church, and souvenir shop. Inside the temple complex you will have a chance to watch a performance of rituals and learn more about this unique culture and religion found in this area of the Philippines.

Insider Tip: If you arrive on a Wednesday or Sunday, watch out for the step-climbing ritual that the devotees go on!

  • How long should I spend there: 1 hour or less
  • Getting there: Take a taxi back towards town. It should be around a half-hour drive

4:45 pm – The Carbon Market

The Carbon Market

Join this uber-vibrant and happening market. The Carbon market is a massive conglomeration of all different types of friendly vendors all selling unique and fascinating goods. This market has become a major tourist destination because of the many choices offered and the extremely inexpensive and beautiful souvenirs provided.

The Carbon Market is over 100 years old and named after the nearby Coal depo.  The current location of the market used to be the final station of the railway line, where the “coal mountains” once used to power the steam engines were stored.

Here you can enjoy a variety of products, services, and cuisine. It is a typical Filipino market, so the items offered range all the way from fresh fruit to handcrafted local artwork. Make sure to try out the Filipino food at this market, as you will not get a more traditional experience of Cebu’s flavours. One of the most fun ways to travel around this market is to take a ride on the “karetela”, which is a local horse carriage that tours around the market!

Make sure to grab some dinner, and then head over to Moalboal for tomorrow’s adventures! It’s a long drive, but if you leave at 7:30, you should arrive for 10:30 and have an hour to relax before a big next day!

  • Cost: Entrance to the market it free.
  • How long should I spend there: around 1 hour should be enough time.
  • Getting there: Taxi from the Cebu Taoist Temple. It’s around a 20 minute car journey.

Osmeña Peak | Kawasan Falls Canyoneering | Kansanto Spring | Panagsama Beach | White Beach Moalboal

Moalboal is very special. Today is about swimming with tons of fish, jumping into stunning pools, and enjoying exactly what all great holiday islands should be known for…

I’m still going to exhaust you.

7 am – Osmeña Peak

Osmeña Peak Cebu

This is one of the most beautiful places on the entire island, so it’s no wonder that it’s made it onto my list!

Excusing the early start, head up into the mountains and ascend to just over 1000 metres above sea level.

The trek takes between 20 and 30 minutes, so it’s suitable for all ages, and the views are just sensational!

This is an early start, after a full day, so don’t worry if you fancy lying in! However, this viewpoint is actually very special. Don’t miss Osmeña Peak if you have the time! Sunrise is best. Packing breakfast could be a great way to refuel and enjoy breathtaking mountain scenery at the same time.

  • Cost: 30 PHP (~$0.80 per person)
  • How long should I spend there: Around 1.5 hours
  • Getting there: It’s close to an hour’s drive from Moalboal. Enjoy the early wake-up!

10:30 am – Kawasan Falls Canyoneering

Kawasan Falls

What better way to spend a day than canyoneering in the Philippines? This half-day activity beats the heat and will show you some of the prettiest water features on the island.

The landscape has changed significantly following Typhoon Odette, but it is still possible to explore the crystal pools and stunning waterfalls of the area.

This activity usually starts in the morning and finishes with lunch. Make sure you’ve got enough energy before embarking upon this superb Cebu adventure! Definitely pack a chocolate bar or two. The Kawasan Falls are gorgeous, and interacting with the surrounding natural environment will get you even hotter for the Filipino scenery…

  • Cost: Around $30. If you just want to see the falls, the price is under a dollar.
  • How long should I spend there: 4 hours (half a day)
  • Getting there: It’s another hour’s drive from Osmeña Peak sadly. But that will give you time to relax, and maybe brekkie on the move?

3:30 pm – Kansanto Spring

Heading back up the coast, we have the amazing Kansanto Springs (In case you hadn’t had enough of beautiful water features).

This pool is a great place to hang out and have a beer, then investigate the three other pools which are used for fish farming.

There is a bar and lots of tourist/ holiday accommodation around the pool, so it’s very much a known spot. If you fancy staying here for the night then do! It’s easy to be stunningly exhausted at this point…

The pools are simply a nice break on the return journey. If you want to get back to Moalboal and go for a dive or head to the beach, don’t impede your journey with a stop here.

  • Cost: 40 PHP (under $1)
  • How long should I spend there: Around an hour
  • Getting there: It’s a 20-minute drive from Kawasan Falls.

5 pm – Panagsama Beach

Panagsama Beach

Arriving in the late afternoon, exploring the weirdness of Panagsama beach is a must-do from Moalboal, and should be part of every top Cebu itinerary.

Why is it weird? Because there is a distinct lack of sand…

But it is still awesome because the snorkelling here is next level. The Maolboal sardine run can be found here, which is a definite once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Panagsama Beach has a range of tasty restaurants, luxury hotels and bougie resorts (one of which you may be staying in), so if you want to grab dinner here I would not blame you! You can also join dive tours, so if you’re a forward thinker, jump onto a Panagsama Beach scuba diving experience!

  • Cost: Free, unless you want to go diving.
  • How long should I spend there: Around 2 hours
  • Getting there: It’s a half an hour’s car journey from the Kansanto Spring.

7 pm – White Beach Moalboal

White Beach Moalboal

Just in time to catch an extraordinary sunset, head to White Beach Moalboal for some relaxation on the beach and a stunning evening meal.

Locals often flock to White Beach, since it is one of the only beaches in the area with an actual contingent of sand. this means it can get quite busy during the daytime.

Thankfully, I’ve picked a time when it should be a little less busy, and there is a range of great restaurants to choose from if you are hungry. The snorkelling on White Beach is pretty good too, but you will most likely miss the chance to do this. Relax, enjoy a beachside supper, and mentally prepare yourself for another super full day tomorrow…

  • Cost: Free! Dinner can range from pretty much free to hideously expensive
  • Getting there: It’s a 15-minute drive from Panagsama Beach

Cebu Itinerary

Hostel Seven is definitely at the top of our list when it comes to the best hostels in Cebu! This space is fun and comfortable and suits every type of traveler group, whether you’re alone or traveling with your whole family.

Ferry to Tagbilaran City (Bohol Island) | Hinagdanan Cave | (The Kangcaramel Cave) | Bilar Man-Made Forest | Tarsier Conservation Area | The Chocolate Hills

The exquisite island of Bohol makes for an exceptional day trip! Home to the Kawasan Falls, the Kangcaramel Cave and, of course, the Mundong Sandbar, you can easily fill up a day…

9:00 am – Ferry to Tagbilaran City (Bohol Island)

Ferry to Tagbilaran City Bohol

The first order of the day is to make your way over to Bohol Island. Part of the Cebu province, this is another large island that contains a sensational collection of great things to do. A Cebu trip without staying in Bohol is only half finished (sorry people).

You will have to make your way back to Cebu City, which will take around 3 hours from Moalboal. You can do this in the evening of the second day, or the morning of today, the third day. Ferries go regularly, and take between 1.5 to 2 hours. Booking is pretty simple, and the ferry isn’t expensive (costs about $17 per person). You should be able to arrive on the Island before midday. It’s a necessary evil to explore the brilliance of the Kebu region!

  • Cost: Around $17 per person
  • How long should I spend there: 2.5 hours
  • Getting there: Drive to the Cebu Port, and hop on a ferry! You can grab the intercity bus (MoalBoal to Cebu City) and then take a taxi to the port if you want to cut costs.

12:00 pm – Hinagdanan Cave

Hinagdanan Cave

So you’ve arrived in Bohol. You’ve had breakfast on the boat, or presumably at some point during the morning. Now your cultural appetite needs attending to!

We start the day with the Hinagdanan Cave system, which is lit by holes in the cavern roof. There are great samples of stalagmites and stalactites, and there is an underground lagoon in which people used to bathe.

The pools are no longer fed from clean sources, and the water sadly often tests positive for a number of pollutants. This is the Phillippines though, so that doesn’t mean you can’t swim (for an extra 75PHP).

However, the cave themselves offer ample intrigue and interest to provide the morning’s first sightseeing milestone! So despite the slightly dirty water, this is still a great place to visit.

  • Cost: Entry is 50 PHP (~$0.90)
  • Getting there: It’s a 20-minute car journey (or less) from the ferry port. There are many restaurants, coffee shops etc. if you need to refuel too!

1:30 pm – (The Kangcaramel Cave)

If you’re feeling the cave vibes, why not stop for lunch at the Kangcaramel Cave? (or substitute for the Hinagdanan Cave)

There is a fantastic cafe and garden, and it can nicely break up your Odyssey to the chocolate hills…

A significant bat population is at home in the cave, so if you’re a budding wildlife connoisseur, this might interest you! Whilst the bats aren’t too active in the daytime, it certainly adds a layer of interest to the cave system.

There is a flower farm on-site, and an aviary, which makes this much more than just a cave! Hang out and take some sensational photos in this super bizarre part of the island.

It’s definitely worth having a beer and checking out the flower garden at this brilliant tourist attraction. it’s also relatively unknown, so you won’t have to worry about hoards of tourists!

  • Cost: 150 PHP (~$2.70) with bar freebies
  • Getting there: 30-minute drive from the Hinagdanan Cave.

3 pm – Bilar Man-Made Forest

Bilar Man-Made Forest

As part of a reforestation project, the local government created the Bilar Man-Made Forest!

Whilst not superb for biodiversity, since nearly all the trees are mahogany, it is a stunning place to visit in Cebu and is a very wholesome visit.

The forest stretches for over 2km and is a tunnel of trees that surrounds the road. Because of the uniform nature of the tree line, it’s a place that is constantly used in films, photographs and Instagrams! Watch out for other tourists who come here, as it can get pretty busy. This means the roads are usually slow, as people slow down to take it in.

  • How long should I spend there: no more than an hour
  • Getting there: It’s an hour’s drive from the Hinagdanan cave or 45 minutes from the Kangcaramel cave.

4 pm – Tarsier Conservation Area

Tarsier Conservation Area

Tarsiers are incredibly cute, furry, and adorable. However, they are nocturnal, so don’t expect them to be super active!

These adorable critters are the symbol of the Bohol province, and multiple sanctuaries have been erected throughout the isle in order to preserve their populations.

The Tarsier Conservation Area imposes rules in order to prevent animal disturbances, so turn off your flash, finish your conversations, and don’t touch them! They’re nocturnal, so it is super unhealthy for them to be woken up.

There are various souvenirs and treats to be had, so if you need some refreshments, don’t hesitate! I know for a fact you can get fresh coconuts when you arrive.

  • Cost: 90 PHP (~$1.70)
  • Getting there: It’s just up the road from the Bilar man-made forest! 5-minute drive

6 pm – The Chocolate Hills

backpacking destinations

This is what you really came for! Sunset at the famous Chocolate Hills!

There are at least 1,260 of these amazing formations, although the true number may be closer to 1,700! You’d have thought someone would have counted them by now, but I guess that’s part of the mystique.

The name “Chocolate Hills” comes from the fact that they lose their colour during the dry season, leaving them a chocolatey brown colour. In the wet season, you won’t get the full brown experience, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t still strange to behold!

These truly amazing geological formations have often been dubbed “the eighth wonder of the world” because they are so incredible!

There is a viewing deck that is worth ascending for a proper view over the majority of the hills, and the site comes with a restaurant for a spectacular chocolate Hills sunset dinner. Nice

  • Cost: Free (viewing deck is 50 pesos or ~$0.90)
  • How long should I spend there: Around an hour, or 2 hours if you want to stay for dinner!
  • Getting there: It takes about 45 minutes to drive from the Tarsier conservation area

So you’re sticking around? Our first piece of advice; chill out on the beach. Take it easy. Then check out these tasty extras!

Cebu Provincial Museum – The Museo Sugbo

The Museo Sugbo

The Museo Sugbo is an excellent sight as well as a truly exciting museum! You can venture the massive gallery that is full of both ancient and modern artworks, and admire the sturdy old coral-stone material that was used to create the building.

Originally, this eye-catching and beautiful structure was Cebu’s provincial jail from 1870, and it was only recently transformed into a museum in 2004. Each of the rooms is now dedicated to the different eras in Cebu’s long and captivating history.

This place that was once called “Carcel de Cebu”, the provincial jail of Cebu, has now become a thriving and entertaining Cebu Provincial Museum.

  • Cost: The entrance fee is 75 PHP ($1.50 USD)
  • H ow long should I spend there: You could spend anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hours there, depending on how much you like history.
  • Getting there: Cebu City. There is a bus stop right outside called the Museo Segbo!

Jumalon Butterfly Sanctuary and Art Gallery

Jumalon Butterfly Sanctuary and Art Gallery

The Jumalon Butterfly Sanctuary was built in 1974 by a passionate Cebuano artist by the name of Julian Jumalon. Whilst he was still alive, he planted many varieties of plants food in his garden that now  attract these rare beauties. This garden has now become one of the most gorgeous butterfly havens in the world, and boasts the oldest butterfly collection in the Philippines!

Whilst walking through the park, you’ll experience a unique and vast garden that provides you with the chance to see all different types of butterflies in a natural spot where they are free to flutter about flaunting their vibrant and eye-catching colors!

Along with the magical experience of the butterfly haven itself, you can also indulge in modern art at the Jumalon Art Gallery or even browse the museum. Learn about each rare breed of butterfly, its story and its origin. These beautiful creatures are majestic and are sure to captivate you as you relax in this paradise.

  • Cost: Entrance fee is 50 ($1) for adults and 25 (50 cents) for children.

The Crown Regency Sky Adventures

The Crown Regency Sky Adventures

Fun in the sun has never been quite so exhilarating! Whether you go during the day, or even during the night whilst the stars are out, you will not be disappointed by this once-in-a-lifetime view and experience! This adventure will take you high up into Cebu’s sky to see the city from a bird’s eye view.

This experience will have your heart thudding as you will be 126.55 meters up! You can also brave the skies by going on the Tower Zip that takes you across two buildings – the country’s first and only urban zip line! The views are outrageous, so it is well worth taking the leap.

For a more chilled and less gravity-defying experience, you can simply go to the 6D movie theatre . It is an in-your-face thrilled adventure complete with rain, wind, bubbles and motion seats to blow you away. After your movie, be sure to check out the Blacklight mini golf course.

  • Cost: Entrance fee is from 250 PHP ($4.80 USD) to 1150 PHP ($22 USD) per person.

Fort San Pedro

cebu travel catalogue 2023

Travel back in time to Fort San Pedro, built by the Spanish in the 1730s to defend the city against Muslim attackers. You can see items salvaged from a shipwreck in the small museum in Fort San Pedro too.

It is the oldest bastion fort in the Philippines and served as the heart of the first Spanish settlement in the country, before it was taken as a Filipino stronghold during the Philippines Revolution in the 19th century.

The fort is not huge, but it’s one of the most important historical landmarks in the city.

  • Cost: The entrance fee is 30 PHP ($0.57 USD)
  • How long should I spend there: 1 hour should be enough to see it all.
  • Getting there: Cebu City. Pier 1 or Osmena Boulevard bus stops.

Being a tropical destination, there is no real cold season as the temperatures are pretty much always high.

From December to February, the weather is at its most pleasant. The sun is consistently shining and the ocean waters are warm. May is the hottest month with the sun hitting its peak, so watch out for extremely hot temperatures, that even last into the night.

when to visit Cebu

Typhoon season is between July and September, you might want to skip these months. If you are keen to watch some of Cebu’s most beautiful big storms, then visit during October, which is Cebu’s wettest month! After October the rain takes a break and it starts to get very dry during April.

Located in the central part of the Philippine archipelago, called the Visayas region, Cebu island consists of the main island and 167 other islands and islets. The island of Cebu itself is long and narrow with coastal plains, vast stretches of rolling and rugged mountain ranges!

In Cebu City you will find that the public transit is made up of taxis and motorbikes, prices are super cheap and it is an excellent way to easily get yourself from place to place! If you enjoy walking, that is easy to do here and you will get a chance to experience street stalls and local life.

Cebu Itinerary

If you want to venture further afield, you can take taxis or hire a car. I recommend hiring a car, as the island is quite big and it will make life a lot easier for you to get to the main Cebu tourist spots. You can also use Grab to hire cars and motorbikes. For long distances, it’s best to book your transfer in advance.

If you’re planning to visit the islands, ferries can take you across to Bohol, Pescador Island, Malapascua Island etc, but they are usually once or twice a day. It’s best to check the ferry times in advance rather than rocking up and expecting a boat. Of course, you can book private boat tours too, which are usually not too expensive.

It’s also worth noting that Mactan Cebu International Airport is on Mactan island, and not Cebu City. If you are arriving late at night, you should make sure to have transport to your hotel booked beforehand so you don’t end up paying a big taxi bill.

We got you. For reals.

Filipinos are by and large, very friendly and helpful and crime against tourists is rare.

Some taxi drivers in Cebu will try to rip you off by taking you the long way to your destinations, so I suggest that you get familiar with the map so you know if you might be going off track. Make sure that you discuss and agree on the cost of your trip before accepting the ride.

Cebu City Cebu

Snatch-and-grab happens in a lot of famous tourist destinations, and so it is a good idea to pack your things in a backpack that has a lock or to keep your handbag safely and firmly in your hands when walking down local streets.

The children in Cebu are often forced to beg, and sometimes it can get quite excessive. Although I know how heartbreaking it can be, I suggest that you do not give in. Politely say ‘No.’ If you’re worried about safety, follow these helpful tips:

  • Don’t travel in a taxi alone, always try to find someone to come with you. If you stay in a hostel, you’ll be sure to make some friends.
  • If you’re visiting the beach, keep an eye on your belongings when swimming and don’t leave them too far away from the shore.
  • It is generally quite safe to walk around popular areas at night, but keep an eye out for dodgy characters.

Our guide to staying safe when traveling is full of basic good hints and tips and is well worth taking the time to read.

ALWAYS sort out your backpacker insurance before your trip. There’s plenty to choose from in that department, but a good place to start is Safety Wing .

They offer month-to-month payments, no lock-in contracts, and require absolutely no itineraries: that’s the exact kind of insurance long-term travellers and digital nomads need.

Here’s what we’re usually asked by people planning their classy Cebu getaways…

What are the Top Cebu Tourist Attractions?

The top Cebu tourist attractions are: 1. The Kawasan Falls 2. The Chocolate Hills 3. Panagsama Beach 4. White Sand Beach 5. The Sirao Garden 6. The Kangcaramel Cave 7. The Bilar Man-Made Forest 8. The Tarsier Conservation Area 9. Osmena Peak 10. The Cebu Taoist Temple

What shouldn’t I miss on my Cebu Trip?

Don’t miss the Kawasan Falls, Panagsama Beach, Osmena Peak, the Sirao Garden, or the magical Chocolate Hills! If you are able to fit all of these in, you’re trip certainly won’t be a waste! If you have the time in Bohol, try and fit in the Hinagdanan Cave and the Bilar Man-Made Forest.

Where should I go on a Cebu Daytrip?

If you’re heading to the Cebu province for a single day only, I would recommend going to the island of Bohol. Home to the Chocolate Hills, Tarsier sanctuaries, impressive caves and waterfalls, and some brilliant cuisine, this island is the better choice for a single day. It’s also smaller, so you won’t spend as long getting around.

Is there a lot of Cebu Tourism?

First time to comment on a blog. This was really helpful. Thank you so much! ?

You think it’s advisable now to visit Cebu? Knowing that it was just recently hit by typhoon.

Weather events tend to go as quickly as they come. You would be best to check out weather sites for information on local area weather and adhere to any official weather warning that are issued.

Hi. I want to go exactly where you went. I want to explore the city instead of checking out the beach. May I know what is your mode of transportation going to those place you’ve mentioned? It’s my first time going to cebu. Thank you!

The ideal way to get around is by scooter or motorbike but drive careful and wear a helmet.

Awesome blog! Maybe next time you should visit Bantayan Island northern part of Cebu. It surely you gonna love it.

i’ve been visiting this place last month during christmas time, i had chance to go down the coast from cebu to Mactan, i just had there an amazing time , unforgettable holidays <3 a golden tip from local people, book2wheel is awesome for scooter rental.

Cebu Travel Guide 2023: Best Things to See, Eat, and Do

cebu travel catalogue 2023

Cebu is easily one of the best places to spend time in the Philippines . If Luzon has Metro Manila, then Visayas has Cebu; the province welcomes visitors with open arms while offering endless adventures to explore. Everything is here, may it be picturesque beaches, rich cultural heritage, and delectable food. And every time we go back, there only seems to be more things to do, see, and eat. Learn the essentials before you fly out with our ultimate Cebu travel guide.

Getting there

cebu travel catalogue 2023

Boarding a plane is by far the best way to get to Cebu. Fly into Mactan-Cebu International Airport ( MCIA ), a gorgeous airport that is both a gateway to the province and a sightseeing opportunity. The airport’s sleek modern design, spacious interiors, and efficient communications systems make it a pleasure to fly into the province, whether you’re on a domestic or international flight.

Going by sea is also an option. Numerous ferries have routes from ports all over the country that go to Cebu. While this is a much more affordable option, travel times can potentially take days compared to flying by plane, depending on the port of origin. So, consider both the budget and the convenience when visiting Cebu.

Where to stay in Cebu

More often than not, where you are in Cebu will determine your activities. So, pick accommodations carefully. Fortunately, there is an abundance of hotels and rentals in this tourist-favourite destination. This Cebu travel guide will list down a few of the key places you’ll want to consider when visiting the province.

Cebu City Centre

cebu travel catalogue 2023

Expect a busy scene along the streets and roads of Cebu City . It’s always full of life with plenty of shopping and dining opportunities, and a thriving nightlife scene that emerges after sunset. Sure, there’s considerable traffic on the roads and sidewalks — but as it is with anywhere else, timing your itinerary around the rush hour can help you miss the worst of the traffic jams.

The city centre is also where you’ll find some of the best restaurants in Cebu. If food is in your itinerary, booking a stay in the city will give you a head start to that gastronomic journey.

Luckily, plenty of fantastic accommodations are available for booking in Cebu City for travellers. Hotels like Radisson Blu , Waterfront Hotel , and the 88th provide comfortable nights in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Cebu City.

Mactan Island

cebu travel catalogue 2023

On your upcoming Cebu holiday, treat yourself and splurge on a stay at Mactan Island’s many luxury hotels and resorts! Aside from the convenience of being near Cebu’s airport, it’s also close to many beautiful beaches. For the ultimate pampering extravaganza, Mactan Island definitely delivers with five-star hotels like Shangri-La Mactan and   Crimson Resort . And if you want to indulge in delicious food, Cebu City Centre is just 30 minutes away, so long as you avoid the rush hour!

Beach bums on a budget who don’t want to be far from commercial areas and city delights may want to consider staying on Mactan Island. Lapu-Lapu City has many options for inexpensive rentals , most of which are near the city centre. Some are just minutes away from Mactan’s beaches!

Moalboal and Oslob – Southern Cebu

cebu travel catalogue 2023

Moalboal is one of the fastest-rising destinations in Southwest Cebu and for good reason. This coastal gem is a true tropical paradise. Beach waters shine like an assortment of sapphire and turquoise against immaculate fine sand. Naturally, most accommodations in this beach town take advantage of its tropical gifts. Fortunately, there are many to choose from at varying price points. Some have hefty tag prices, like dive resorts , but there are also transient houses and rentals that are much lighter on the wallet.

Oslob is popular for many of the same reasons. This beach town is a haven not just for tourists, but also for marine life, most famous for its pristine waters teeming with friendly whale sharks. Take note of Oslob’s peak seasons: Dry weather and little rain from December to May attracts many tourists to these shores, thanks to the pleasant climate. Accommodations may drive their prices higher during the peak season, but looking hard enough might score you a bargain in rentals.

Bantayan Islands and Malapascua Island – Northern Cebu

bantayan

The islands north of Cebu also possess unrivalled natural beauty. Small as it is, Malapascua ’s waters teem with life, making it a popular destination for divers around the world. While there are a handful of dive resorts delivering a luxury experience, hostels and rentals remain very affordable.

Meanwhile, island-hopping opportunities abound around Bantayan Island and its surrounding islets.  Fortunately, there is a wide range of accommodations suited for every budget. Luxury apartments, beach resorts, and beachside inns are well-equipped to keep guests comfortable as they have fun under the sun!

For our specific suggestions on accommodations on Bantayan Island, read this .

Getting around

cebu travel catalogue 2023

Like many metro cities in the Philippines, jeepneys are the main public transport option in Cebu City. Taxis and ride-hailing apps also see extensive use in the Queen City of the South. If budget isn’t an issue, these are the best ways to travel around Cebu. For inner or hidden community streets around Cebu, tricycles are still viable options for transport.

In Moalboal, Oslob, Malapascua, and Bantayan, not all roads are wide enough to accommodate jeepneys. Instead, many tourists hop on tricycles and motorcycle taxis to get around these beach towns. Private cars or vans can be rented, but expect higher prices for these. If you’re looking for a sense of adventure, let your own two feet take you around these thriving beach towns!

Where to eat in Cebu

Oh, Cebu is such a gastronomic haven! It seems almost everything that Cebuanos cook and serve tastes divine, with every corner of the province boasting its own speciality.

Cebu and Carcar lechon

cebu travel catalogue 2023

Every Cebu travel guide will tell one thing when it comes to food in Cebu: Do not miss Cebu lechon . Compared to lechon in other places, its flavours are much more defined and sophisticated because of the various herbs and spices roasted inside the pig. Naturally, plenty of restaurants in Cebu City serve this delectable piece of heaven, with House of Lechon and CnT Lechon as some of the most sinful!

Equally delicious is Carcar lechon , named after a southern municipality in Cebu. Their flavours are different from the more famous Cebu lechon , but they are just as tasty. The most famous characteristic of Carcar lechon is its tangier flavour profile. Sample this revered plate of pork in restaurants like Oca Paraz or the ever-reliable Carcar Lechon Baboy .

Another staple that any Cebu travel guide will recommend is the sutukil . This word is a combination of three cooking techniques popular among Cebuanos. Su comes from sugba , or grilling. Tu is tuwa , the Cebuano term for broth-based dishes. Finally, kil for kilaw , or seafood ceviche techniques. Thus, sutukil restaurants showcase the best seafood dishes using these traditional Cebuano techniques.

Most of these dining spots can be found anywhere in the city, but we recommend trying Lantaw Floating Market in Mactan and STK Ta Bay right at the heart of Cebu City.

Street food

cebu travel catalogue 2023

Finally, street food in Cebu is also a major contender when it comes to finding the best gastronomic offerings. With an abundance of affordable options and places to explore, travellers with a shoestring budget will thrive in Cebu.

Most of these offerings take inspiration from Chinese cuisine, such as ngohiong and siomai sa tisa . There is also the pungko-pungko , where a heaping pile of fried food is usually paired with puso , or hanging rice. Places like Larsian and Pungko-Pungko sa Fuente  serve a dizzying array of fried fare, including fried chicken, fried lumpia , longganisa , and more assorted ulam . Oftentimes, you won’t need to bring more than a hundred-peso bill for a sumptuous meal!

Best things to do in Cebu

1. learn about the rich local history in cebu city.

cebu travel catalogue 2023

As one of the Philippines’ oldest cities, Cebu City has a rich and revered history. The city bore witness to many pivotal and formative events for the country. This is where Ferdinand Magellan established Roman Catholicism in the country, after all. In Cebu City, tourists can visit the most important relic birthed by the event, Magellan’s Cross . It’s located in the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño , which also houses the original image of the Santo Niño.

Another important historical site in Cebu is Fort San Pedro , a famous landmark that was once used as a prolific garrison for the Spaniards during their occupation. Travellers can also get a peek at Cebu’s rich and diverse heritage with a visit to the Taoist Temple .

2. Take photos of the city’s picturesque attractions

cebu travel catalogue 2023

Luckily for photographers and Instagram enthusiasts, there are truly breathtaking places to visit around Cebu. Easily one of the most impressive structures to fawn over is the Temple of Leah . This extravagant recreation of a neoclassical temple inspired by Roman and Greek architecture was a gesture of love between two members of a prominent family in Cebu. True enough, the centre of the structure enshrines a statue that bears a striking resemblance to the family matriarch.

Sirao Flower Farm is another picturesque attraction that’s just outside the city. Dubbed Cebu’s Little Amsterdam, the vibrant colours and hues of flowers present an overwhelming sight.

Tip: Bringing a jacket when visiting Sirao Flower Farm is a good idea since the farm is quite elevated, with cooler temperatures throughout the day.

3. Get a taste of adrenaline with thrilling activities

cebu travel catalogue 2023

Itching for an adrenaline rush? This Cebu travel guide has got you covered. In Cebu, you never have to look far for thrills and spills!

For thrills in Metro Cebu, we suggest heading to Crown Regency Hotel to get your heart racing . On the 37th floor is the world-famous Edge Coaster , a thrilling ride offering a very different view of Metro Cebu. In the same building, there’s also the Skywalk , where you get to walk on glass floors more than a hundred metres above the ground.

It’s also exciting to explore Cebu’s abundance of natural wonders. Canyoneering trails to Kawasan Falls alone are enough to challenge anyone’s wits and physical strength. After all the trekking and rappelling, a relaxing plunge in Kawasan’s fresh waters will reinvigorate the body and spirit. Do remember to exercise caution  when taking the plunge!

cebu travel catalogue 2023

Diving and snorkelling sites in Cebu offer more thrills underwater. Beach towns like  Moalboal and Malapascua thrive with underwater landscapes that draw divers to the province from around the world. And of course, Oslob is home to the famously gentle giants, the whale sharks. Yes, it’s possible to swim alongside them! Just don’t get too close — they are still wild animals, after all.

4. Relax at beautiful beaches

cebu travel catalogue 2023

Cebu’s surrounding islands are beach bum havens, promising a blissful escape with their inherent beauty. Staying at the beach towns of Mactan, Bantayan, Oslob, or Moalboal puts you amidst a tropical paradise with peaceful vistas and an infectiously laidback culture. The views are so dreamy, you’ll never want to leave!

When you’re in Mactan, Marigondon Public Beach is a pretty solid choice. It’s a well-maintained public beach that locals say can rival world-famous Boracay . Matutinao Beach is an excellent beach in Badian with breathtaking sunsets. Plus , it’s only a few minutes away from Kawasan Falls should the call to adventure arise. In the north, Bantayan’s Paradise Island is the perfect picture of a pristine idyll with fine white sand and crystalline blue waters.

We hope this Cebu travel guide will convince you to consider the province as your next destination. It’s a destination that is constantly growing, with more surprises in store the moment you land. Even after leaving, we’re sure that returning soon to the city isn’t far off!

Cebu Travel Catalogue International 2022 highlights travel discounts, deals

cebu travel catalogue 2023

Recognizing people’s renewed zeal for travel with the easing of pandemic restrictions, a tourism organization is bringing back the Cebu Travel Catalogue International (CTCI) this June 10-12, 2022 at Ayala Center Cebu.

The three-day event will serve as a one-stop shop for travel products and services, making it easy for Cebuanos and travelers in the region to book tour packages to local and international destinations, Angelita “Baby” Dy, CTCI 2022 Chair and Cebu Tours and Travel Association (CTTA) Vice President told a press conference on May 30. CTTA is organizing the CTCI 2022 with special participation of the Cebu Tour Operation Specialists (CATOS).

She said that they’ve prepared exciting activities throughout the three-day travel show, starting with opening ceremonies on the first day as well as talk shows featuring farm, culinary, and faith tourism to be hosted by the Department of Tourism in Central Visayas.

TRAVEL. Organizers discuss the Cebu Travel Catalogue International scheduled for June 10-12 at Ayala Center Cebu.

There will also be a business-to-business presentation and meetup sessions among industry stakeholders, a mini concert, coffee table discussion on tourism by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, travel auction, and raffle draws, Dy added.

CTCI 2022 exhibitors

Participating in CTCI 2022, which takes on the theme “Explore the World Again,” will be around 50 exhibitors, including:

  • co-presentors Philippine Airlines and Turkish Airlines,
  • event partners DOT 7, Cebu City Tourism Commission, and Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Ayala Center Cebu
  • Diamond sponsors Korean Tourism Organization (KTO) and Philippines AirAsia
  • Gold sponsors Amadeus and Sabre Travel Network, and
  • Travel agencies affiliated with CTTA.

They will be offering exceptional deals on airfare and tour packages to various destinations.

Outbound tour operators will be highlighting places that have opened or are slowly reopening their doors to Filipinos, such as Turkey, many parts of Europe, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailands, US, South Korea, and Japan, according to CTTA Secretary Sheila Colmenares.

cebu travel catalogue 2023

Promising developments

While it is still an unstable situation for the tourism industry because of COVID-19, CTTA Public Relations Officer Cookie Chan said there are promising developments.

She cited as example the case of Turkey, which has done away with almost all restrictions for travelers. Although no one can really be sure what the result of this decision will be down the road, Turkey is right now enjoying huge gains in its tourism industry.

An illness like COVID-19 will probably be around for a long time but the world is learning to live with it through vaccinations and health protocols, said CATOS President Alice Queblatin.

She added that after more than two years of restrictions in travel, it was a good sign that Cebu City, DOT 7, and CCCI have decided to become partners of CTCI 2022.

According to her, local tourism stakeholders will be actively pushing for highland, coastal, and heritage tourism. They have in fact started with tours highlighting the flower gardens in the Cebu City highlands and coastline area particularly with the opening of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway, NUSTAR, and new food destinations in Il Corso.

Attractive tour packages, staycations available at Cebu Travel Catalogue International

Have a breather for yourself by going on a break and travel to local and foreign destinations. the upcoming cebu travel catalogue international (ctci) 2024 offers attractive packages for travel here and abroad..

Irene Sino-Cruz

Scheduled on April 12 to 14, 2024 at the Ayala Center Cebu, the CTCI 2024 is poised to introduce attractive products aimed at enticing a greater number of inbound and outbound tourists.

Presented by the Cebu Travel & Tours Alliance (CTTA) in partnership with the Cebu Alliance Tour Operation Specialists Inc. (CATOS), CTCI 2024 aims to encourage travel enthusiasts to venture into new destinations or revisit favorite sites.

Up for grabs are various offerings from hotels, travel agencies, airlines, and other tourist-related enterprises. These include staycations, promo airline fares, and group tours.

CATOS president Ms. Alice Queblatin said there are now changes in the tourism strategies of Cebu stakeholders. With the changes in the dynamics of the travel sector in the country, Cebu could no longer rely on beaches as a tourist attraction, she revealed.

She recalled that in the past, tour operators offered Bohol as a day tour. In contrast, tourists stay longer in Bohol and have a shorter stay in Cebu.

With tourists staying up to 14 days in the Philippines, the tourism sector has to be innovative and offer more attractive packages.

The CTCI 2024 will offer multi-destination packages such as Cebu-Bohol-Palawan so that tourists can maximize their stay here and enjoy different attractions, Ms. Queblatin said.

While Cebu could not compete with the beach attractions in other areas in Central Visayas and Mindanao, the presence of Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) will help boost the travel industry in Cebu, she pointed out.

Considered among the best, if not the best airport in the country, MCIA private operator has a marketing team that helps promote Cebu as a destination.

The airport is working on serving more direct international flights and additional local flights. Currently, the airport serves at least 17 international and nine domestic airline companies. There are more than 200 international flights and over 700 domestic flights weekly.

This year’s CTCI is co-presented by Philippine Airlines, Turkish Air, Newport World Resorts, the Cebu Safari & Adventure Park, and El Mar Resort.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board and the Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (RCB) are the gold sponsors while Anjo World Theme Park, Movenpick Hotels and Resorts, Golden Sands, and Air Asia are the bronze sponsors. The activity is also in partnership with the Department of Tourism Region VII, the Cebu City Tourism Office, and venue partner Ayala Center Cebu.

The CTTA is a leading organization dedicated to the promotion of tourism and travel in the Philippines. It aims to showcase the beauty and diversity of the region, fostering global connections, and promoting sustainable travel practices.

Cebu guide: When is the best time to visit Cebu?

,cebu guide,cebu blog,cebu island travel guide,cebu travel blog,cebu travel guide,cebu trip blog (2)

Cebu is much less affected by storms than other Philippines islands, but you should not go in the rainy season.

  • Peak season: From December to April is the dry season for most parts of the Philippines. The best time to travel is from December to February, the coolest and most pleasant days here.
  • Middle season: May and November. May is the beginning of the rainy season and November is the beginning of the peak tourist season in the Philippines.
  • Low season: From June to September there are many consecutive rainy days, often the hotel price decreases by 30%.

Cebu travel blog: Getting around Cebu

Aerial-View-of-Mactan-Cebu-International-Airport-Runway-Asphalt-Overlay-September-2018-Project-LUPAD

The quickest way to get to Cebu is by plane, you will have to transit at Manila Airport (Ninoy Aquino Interational Airport / NAIA), and from there fly to Cebu Airport (Mactan Airport) on Mactan Island with the airfare of about USD29.99 of the airlines such as Cebu Pacific or Tiger Air. Or catch a taxi or coach to get to Cebu.

cebu pacific,cebu guide,cebu blog,cebu island travel guide,cebu travel blog,cebu travel guide,cebu trip blog

The distance between Cebu city and Mactan Island is about 40km, you will take more than half an hour to get there if traveling by car, but if you are not too hurry, you can travel on the waves by catch a boat to Cebu Island, however this way slower than if you go by car.

ferry Commute from to Mactan and Cebu City in 30 minutes5

Called bus but not used to travel in the city center like in other cities, or from one district to another, but used to travel destinations far from the city center, like coach/shuttle bus in Vietnam.

How to catch a bus in Cebu to travel between destinations?

Departure: Buses run from 2 terminals ( South Bus Terminal and North Bus Terminal ). Just come here to catch a bus, no need to book tickets in advance. Depending on the destination you want to go in the North or South on the island to go to the corresponding terminal.

cebu North Bus Terminal

Return: Stand anywhere, as long as along the main road, find the bus write Cebu word, then wave it. There is no need to stand at the right stop point, but there is no stop point to stand.

Ceres Bus in cebu,cebu guide,cebu blog,cebu island travel guide,cebu travel blog,cebu travel guide,cebu trip blog1

It is best to be at the bus terminal before 5:00AM to when you arrive is catch a bus right. If you haven’t come to the Philippines yet, you can’t imagine how crowded the bus terminal scene is. However, the people are very conscious, no matter how crowded, how long they wait, there is no jostle. People are line up and orderly.

cebu bus terminal

In Cebu, you should choose the Ceres Liner bus company, bus is painted yellow. This bus has air conditioning, free wifi.

Grab Taxi can be used in the Philippines. In Cebu, I often go to the street to catch a taxi, in Manila, thanks to the hotel receptionist or a security staff call. There is no way to call up the taxi company call center like Vietnam.

From Manila Airport

Manila Airport Taxis White and Yellow

If you take a flight to Manila early in the morning between from 4AM to 6AM, take a taxi to the city is quite easily. But if you come in the day, either choose Grab or White Taxi (more expensive, fixed price, do not turn on the meter), do not choose Yellow Taxi (cheap, turn on the meter, but wait for your turn is super long, average you have to spend 3 hours for waiting). Grab, white taxi and yellow taxi are divided into 3 separate areas outside of the arrival terminal of Manila airport, when you step out of the arrival terminal you will find.

grab taxi in manila

From Cebu Mactan Airport

Choose a white taxi, DO NOT CHOOSE YELLOW TAXI (double price, my bitter experience).

white Airport Taxi Terminal

In Manila/Cebu

Take a taxi in the Philippines, you just ask the driver to turn on the meter, especially in Manila, the taxi drivers either don’t turn it on or ask for more money. So you go on asking, or else choose another taxi, there’s no need to go! In Cebu I never had to ask for a meter to turn on, the driver also did not ask pay more money.

Motorbike taxi

Motor Cycle Taxi Rider Cebu City Philippines

Yes! But not professional motorbike taxi. Motorcycles are not popular in the Philippines. But if you like to ride a motorbike, and if you see whoever runs a motorbike, you can wave him and ask for a price and riding. My experience is that anyone with a motorbike in the Philippines is willing to become a motorcycle taxi.

Cebu jeepney

Popular means of transportation on Cebu Island are Rickshaw, Bus, Taxi, Jeepney. According to our Cebu Island travel guide, we recommend choosing a Jeepney to visit the famous tourist attractions in Cebu. A pretty interesting experience. Jeepney vehicles operating like buses also have stops, this is a pretty interesting means of transportation in the Philippines, you should try it. However there is a small note at the bottom when using this vehicle.

Jeepney in cebu

A few notes when traveling by public transport in Cebu in particular and the Philippines in general.

The first is CROWDED! You can spend up to 2 to 3 hours to catch a taxi or bus in the Philippines, whether at the bus stop or the airport or the pier. In Cebu, I often to stand outside the main road to take a taxi, the rush hour is from 6PM to 7PM and have to wait 45 minutes to find an empty taxi is normal.

bus in cebu

The second is NOT SAFE! If you go by Jeepney! Colorful Jeepneys have become a culture feature in the Philippines, but it’s not safe if you go to alone, or bring valuable items. Because, normally your bag can be slashed, more seriously, a gun can be put on your body. So if you want to experience Jeepney, it’s ok, but please left all your belongings at home, only bring some coins and get on a Jeepney.

jeepney-police-tease

These are a few negative points, the remain we see the travel, moving in the Philippines is OK.

Cebu island travel guide: Best places to visit and top things to do in Cebu Island

The north of cebu, camotes islands.

Camotes Island, cebu

The first destination is the Camotes Islands. Camotes islands include 3 main islands: Poro, Pacijan and Ponson. Poro and Pacijan are two main islands, connected by a concrete bridge with mangrove forests on both sides of the road. The other island, Ponson, is little known, as it is located quite far from the other two islands, and there is no direct boat from Cebu. The main activities in the Camotes Islands are diving, sea jumping, visiting Danao Lake (lake of mistress), including pedal duck games, waterfall … or participating in exploring caves and impressive stalactites at Bukilat in Tudela island. You can spend 2 days 1 night to explore Camotes islands.

Camotes islands Santiago bay

Getting to Camotes Islands

Option 1: You should depart from early morning for less crowded. From downtown Cebu take a taxi to the North Bus Terminal, tell the bus driver to Danao Port (to go to Camotes Islands). From here, the bus runs about an hour will reach Danao port, buy boat tickets to Camotes. The boat runs about 1 hour and 30 minutes is reach Pacijan Island. Bus tickets without air-conditioned: 40 Peso, quite cheap; 210 Peso for boat ticket.

| cebu travel blog

Option 2: From the center of Cebu take a taxi to Pier 1 (Cebu port), getting on the Golden Express to depart to Poro town (the boat runs at 5:30PM, the ticket is 380 Peso, travel time: 2 hours). This boat departs from Poro to Cebu at 6AM.

The main means of transport in Camotes islands is motorbikes, the rental price is 400 Peso/day.

Eating and staying

Camotes Nena's Grill & Drinks

There is no luxury restaurant, no fast food, no 24 hour convenience store in Camotes island, so keep going on the road and find where to sell food and then drop in. Tourist spots also sell food.

camotes island cuisine

On the accommodation, we recommended to stay in Santiago Bay Beach , or stay in Santiago Bay Garden & Resort with budget room rates, and look straight to the Santiago Sea – the most beautiful beach in Camotes Islands, awesome!

Santiago Bay Garden & Resort3

Otherwise, staying in a homestay, if you go with large group, it is reasonable and 2 people are not much cheaper than resort.

A homestay 7km from Santiago beach costs 1.500 peso/night/5-6 people (air conditioning) and 1.300 peso/night (without air conditioning).

Bantayan Island

bantayan beach

The next destination is the beautiful island of Bantayan. Brief introduction, Bantayan belongs to the top 10 most beautiful islands and beaches in the Philippines. According to CNN’s Travel section, Bantayan ranked 5th (in the article: The Philippines’ best beaches and islands – 2014). According to Lonely Planet book, those who are looking for a place to lazy lie on the beaches will love Bantayan. Without activities such as snorkeling, diving, rafting, or volcanoes climbing, this island in northeastern Cebu has only sunny beaches with countless food stalls and beer shops.

BANTAYAN-DSC_5227

The island’s capital is Santa Fe town, located in the south of the island, where you can choose resorts and beaches that are not too noisy. If you intend to go to Bantayan on the occasion of the Filipinos like Holy Week, Easter … remember to book hotel in advance and come from early!

Getting to Bantayan island

Hagnaya Port.

Because Bantayan Island is located in the north of Cebu, so from Cebu city you can take a taxi to the North Bus Terminal. From here, take the bus to Port Hagnaya, travel time about 3 hours, price for 132 Peso/way. At Hagnaya port, you buy a boat ticket to Bantayan Island (to Santa Fe port) for 170 Peso/way. After 1 hour sit on boat, you will reach super beautiful Bantayan island!

BANTAYAN-rental bike

Similar to Camotes islands and other small Philippine islands, motorcycles are the main means of transportation. Anyone who likes to explore the island, just rent a motorbike, the price is the same as in Camotes with rental price of 350 Peso/day.
