If you want to see the sights along the bay and river, the hop on off river service is the best. The duck tour is a little bit of both, but more fun for kids.

May be my earphone was faulty? The tour does not go up the Singapore River only in and around the Bay from Suntec City. The land tour (drive through, actually) around the Civic District then follows. I think the bumboat cruise is more suitable for your family. If possible try the light show cruise at night. My $0.02. Hope this helps.

If you want to the majority of the waterside, go with the river cruise. If you want a bit of land at the Expense of the water go with the Duck tour.
