Flights to Baltimore

Baltimore is an important seaport with a rich and colorful history that dates back to the birth of our country, especially during the American Revolution when it was the site of vital shipbuilding operations. The U.S. Navy’s first ship, the USS Constellation, was launched from its harbor in 1797, and it remains anchored today at Inner Harbor as part of the Historic Ships in Baltimore attraction. Our national anthem originated in Baltimore when Francis Scott Key was inspired to write the “The Star Spangled Banner” when the British tried to take Fort McHenry, now a national monument and history shrine, during the War of 1812.

Fell’s Point is a charming waterfront neighborhood of 18th and 19th century homes and storefronts named for the English founder of the shipbuilding business that produced the Baltimore Schooner. This is a good place to find restaurants serving exceptional Chesapeake Bay cuisine. Speaking of cuisine, in Baltimore the Chesapeake blue crab is king. No visit is complete without feasting on a pile of steamed crabs or sweet, meaty Maryland style crab cakes. You can wash it down with a local beer by Union Craft Brewing, Heavy Seas or Flying Dog Brewery.

There is no excuse for skipping your workout when traveling through Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI). Named the No. 1 airport in the U.S. by Thrillist.com, it boasts a 12.5-mile trail that winds through green spaces and forested areas around the facility. There are also bike rentals, a fitness center with showers, a meditation room and a children’s playground.

The bi-level airport has five concourses serving most major national airlines, including Delta Air Lines, as well as international and regional airlines.

There are a wide variety of dining options, ranging from fast-food favorites like Chipotle and Chick-fil-A to full-service restaurants such as Silver Diner and R&R Seafood Bar. Shops run the gamut from duty free stores and Hudson News to M.A.C. Cosmetics and Victoria’s Secret.

  • Free daily shuttle service is provided to the MARC/Amtrak station around the clock.
  • MTA light rail service is available to downtown Baltimore, Timonium, and Hunt Valley. The station is located on the lower level by Concourse E.
  • MTA bus service is available on the #75, as well as the #107 during weekday peak hours.
  • RTA provides transportation to various locations throughout Central Maryland.
  • WMATA provides express bus service to the Greenbelt Metro Station that connects to stations throughout the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia, Montgomery ,and Prince Georges counties.
  • The free Parking Shuttle provides transportation to and from the Long-Term A and B parking lots and the Daily Garage.
  • Taxi stands are located on the lower level outside baggage claim
  • Free shuttle service is provided to the rental car facility; passenger pickup is on the lower level.
  • Uber, Lyft and other other app-based transportation services pick up passengers on the Departures/Ticketing level between doors 9 and 11.

Spend the day at Inner Harbor, a popular hub of tourist attractions including the National Aquarium; Port Discovery Children’s Museum; Maryland Science Center with IMAX theater and planetarium show; Cruises on the Bay; and Historic Ships in Baltimore, featuring four ships -- USS Constellation, USS Torsk, USCGC Taney, Lightship 116 Chesapeake -- and Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse.

Sports lovers will want to watch the three-time World Series-winning Baltimore Orioles play at Oriole Park in Camden Yards in downtown Baltimore. Football fans can check out the NFL Baltimore Ravens during gridiron season at M&T Bank Stadium, aka Ravens Stadium.

Immerse yourself in Baltimore’s African-American history and culture by visiting the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture, the Frederick Douglass-Isaac Myers Maritime Park Museum, and the James E. Lewis Museum of Art.

Explore the Bromo Tower District in Downtown West, home of Lexington Market, the oldest continuously operating public market; the Edgar Allan Poe House and Museum; and the Bromo Seltzer Arts tower where you can visit artist studios as you climb to the top. Catch a touring Broadway show at Hippodrome Theatre or a local theater production at Everyman Theatre.

It doesn’t get any more luxurious than The Ivy Hotel, a mansion with 18 guest rooms and suites appointed with gas fireplaces and heated bathroom floors. Some even have balconies and views of Mount Vernon. Another upscale option is the Lord Baltimore, an historic downtown hotel established in 1928 and completely renovated in 2014.

For a waterfront experience, consider a boutique hotel like Henderson’s Wharf, located in a former tobacco factory next to the marina in Fell’s Point, or the Inn at the Black Olive, a 12 room, all-suite, environmentally conscious hotel with geo-thermal power, energy-saving lights, and organic restaurant.

If it’s an intimate B&B you want, historic Wilson House is a stunning brick, Victorian townhome built in 1880 that boasts 12 elegantly appointed bedrooms, two parlors, eight fireplaces, a library and a sunroom.

Unique overnight stays on a boat, in a boathouse, or a modern loft in an historic building can be found through Airbnb.com.Unique overnight stays on a boat, in a boathouse, or a modern loft in an historic building can be found through Airbnb.com.

Baltimore weather is warm in the summer, with average highs in the mid to high 80s, and quite cold in the winter, with average lows in the high 20s and low 30s. You can expect between eight and 11 days of precipitation every month, so be sure to pack some rain gear no matter when you go. And if you visit in January or February, be prepared to encounter a substantial amount of white stuff. Baltimore gets about 20 inches of snow on average every year.

  • 11 Picturesque Towns in Maryland for a Weekend Retreat in 2024

When it comes to exploring The Old Line State , which was chartered as a colony in 1632 and ultimately ratified the US Constitution in 1788, large cities like Baltimore often dominate the conversation. However, beyond the urban bustle lies a plethora of charming small towns, each offering a rich history, beautiful architecture, and distinctive local culture. From the Victorian allure of Berlin to the maritime roots of St. Michaels, these treasures make for a tranquil weekend escape and provide a window into Maryland’s celebrated past. This year, trade the congested streets for cobblestone lanes and discover the quaint, historic towns described below.

St. Michaels

Waterfront buildings in St. Michaels, Maryland.

St. Michaels , the oldest town in Talbot County, dates to the mid-1600s, when it served as a trading post for area trappers and tobacco farmers. Its earliest industry was shipbuilding, with the town’s shipyards and the presence of a military battery making it a prime target of the British during the War of 1812. In the end, largely because of the town’s stratagem of dimming lights and hanging lanterns in trees, the British failed to destroy the shipyards or cause any significant damage, earning St. Michaels the nickname " The Town That Fooled the British ." Just a few years later, in 1818, Talbot County’s most famous native son would be born: Frederick Douglass.

The buildings that comprise the St. Michaels Museum at Mary Square feature an extensive collection of paintings, furnishings, and artifacts that paint a full, vivid picture of nineteenth-century life in the area. At the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, you can immerse yourself in on-the-water experiences, hands-on learning, and top-notch exhibitions. From small boutique shops to a diverse array of restaurants, there’s something for every taste. Among the excellent lodging options is The Old Brick Inn, which offers twenty well-appointed rooms, complimentary breakfast and parking, and an enviable location in the heart of town.

Rustic buildings in Berlin, Maryland.

Named by USA Today as the Best Town for Shopping in 2018 and 2020, it’s no surprise locals and tourists alike can’t get enough of Berlin . Boasting over 60 retail shops, over fifteen restaurants, music venues, coffee shops, bakeries, galleries, and more, the town’s Main Street is an exciting destination. Moreover, with over 40 structures spanning two centuries of architecture and listed on the National Historic Register, history envelops you. Among these is the Calvin B. Taylor House, which displays local memorabilia and antiques. Moreover, Berlin served as the tree-lined filming location for such films as Tuck Everlasting and Runaway Bride .

Nature lovers will want to visit Maryland’s only oceanfront park, Assateague State Park, for some swimming, kayaking, or fishing. Also, those visiting this year are in for a blast as Berlin hosts over forty free events per year, including a weekly farmers market held downtown, Oktoberfest, and a Christmas parade. Need a place to unwind after the event? Celebrating over 125 years, The Atlantic Hotel delights guests with 15 guestrooms featuring authentic antiques, gracious hospitality, and a historic Bistro Bar.

Aerial view of Annapolis in Maryland.

Dubbed the Sailing Capital of the U.S., Annapolis brims with a rich colonial history and maritime heritage, drawing more than four million people to its shores annually. The small seaport received its current name when Sir Francis Nicholson moved the capital here from St. Mary's City, paying homage to Princess Anne, heir to the throne. A thriving shipping industry brought great wealth to Annapolis, which today has more original 18th-century structures standing than any other city in the United States . Tour and experience fascinating exhibits at the U.S. Naval Academy Museum before visiting St. John’s College, the third oldest college in the country after Harvard University and the College of William and Mary.

Further discover a wealth of historic properties like the William Paca House & Garden, the lavish home of William Paca, signer of the Declaration of Independence. Not to be missed is the mid-1800s Gothic-style St. Mary's Church, which has spectacular arched ceilings and a remarkable wooden altarpiece. After a busy afternoon exploring the shops, art galleries, and restaurants on Main Street, call it a day at the Historic Inns of Annapolis, comprised of three historic buildings that have hosted everyone from prominent state officials to signers of the Declaration of Independence.

Top 5 airlines serving from Portland to Maryland

They separated our seats and moved us to the back of the plane. Hundreds of dollars and thousands of miles used and this was my platinum member experience.

New boarding doesn't make sense. Filling front first is slow.

Delta flight was great from the check in all the way to arrival. However, I had a very bad experience. I requested a wheelchair and the wheelchair employee that went to pick me up from the plane in Boston to bring me to the baggage claims told me I have to pay him. I was under the impression that it was a free service and I usually give tips but the person forced me to pay and since I said no because I was upset with his demand when my daughter walked in to pick me up he demanded payment from my daughter who paid him thinking maybe now it is a charged service.

6 hour delay including one after we were boarded. Horrible experience.

Horrible. Grateful to be alive but spent 13 hours at airport only to return back to my familys house and flight changed to next day. They tried to fix a part on plane, had no back up plane and after 10 hours , reattempted the flight and it STILL wasn't fixed. We got a meal voucher and rescheduled flight but there should be some other compensation for the 15 hours spent in airport

Nothing unusual. It was fine. I hate having to pay extra for my seat.

Everything was Okay. I was disappointed our luggage didn’t arrive with us and came in a flight 7 hours later. Representative said the will be delivered to the hotel. They have not arrived 24 hours later

We splurged and decided to fly first class. Seats were roomy. But flight crew arrived late to the airport. That delayed our flight. Most of the passengers had to try to make connections flights. I felt bad for them. We checked 4 bags. We got three from the baggage claim carousel. 4th one was lost. Delta online help wasn’t good. Baggage claim staff were sympathetic and nice but we waited around for almost 2 hours and it had t been found. They did find it several hours later and we had to drive back to airport to retrieve it. I won’t be splurging on 1st. Lass again anytime soon. I think we got worse service. I am also not a huge fan of delta but we have family in ATL so we don’t have a ton of choice. What should have been an easy flight turned into a stressful event due to flight crew tardiness and baggage mishandling.

In thirty years of traveling, mostly with Delta, this was the worst day ever.

The flight was so late that I had to change connecting flights, turning a five-hour trip into a fourteen-hour nightmare.

No access to the Wi-Fi, noisy group of people made it difficult for me to hear through my earbuds. Snacks and drinks - limited service when your seat is at the back of the plane - people up front are always served first and the back gets whatever is left. Not pleased.

They had three choices for snacks - but you could only have one - and they ran out of the dark chocolate before they made it all the way down the aisle... Packed flight - limited service.

As usual, United scheduling is completely misleading. A 54-minute layover at O’Hare is too short to make a lot of connections, especially since the flight landed “on time” but had to wait on the taxiway 15 minutes for a gate to open up. Then it takes another 10 minutes to exit the plane before one can run to another concourse to catch a connecting flight.

I am not an electronic savy. I don't know how to maneuver the APPS for services. Why can't I just buy food without the apps.

Flight home lot's of room shame I never noticed that they ripped my suitcase and didn't notice it to I got toy destination and had to buy new set

I was pleased and I had a very good experience. The staff was friendly and attentive.

Your seats in the last 5 rows are terrible. My knees were jammed into the seat in front of me and the lady sitting there decided to recline it. Jammed my knees bad. I don’t know if I’ll fly United again.

The flight from Cleveland to Newark was great. The connecting flight wasn’t so good.

This was a short flight with no food. The attendants were great but the comfort was poor: just to cramped. The flight from Denver to Frankfort was excellent! Seating was roomier, food was good, service was good. This was a great experience.

Delayed over an hour due to paperwork not being filed correctly. Forced to change planes.

The flight was delayed which was disappointing. There was no pre takeoff refreshment in first, as we had to wait around an hour in our seats before take off that was disappointing too. The inflight entertainment/wifi did not work, and the crew were slow to offer drinks in flight

AA is fabulous. However , Iberia cancelled our Boston - Barcelona flight the morning of the flight - 9/16/24. This was almost a week ago and we have still heard nothing from Iberia/Vueling. Found out from a kayak email that morning that the flight was cancelled. Iberia Customer service reps wouldn’t help us and said to call Vueling. No one answers phone at Vueling. Terrible wild goose chase on DAY OF TRAVEL. AA came to our rescue.

Boston ticket agent Cheryl Porter is WONDERFUL. Our Iberia flight to Barcelona was cancelled the morning we were scheduled to leave and Cheryl was our super hero - she found us seats on a flight to London and on to Barcelona. Truly a “can-do” attitude which we appreciated so much after the Iberia ticket agents told us there was “absolutely nothing they could do”. (As did the customer service agents at Iberia’s call center) Ms Porter is truly a wonderful person who genuinely cares about travelers!

For coast to coast travel the A321 and even the NEO, even in first class will never be excellent. That would take a B787 or 777 to accomplish.

No choice of meal in first class. Was the worst meal I’ve ever had in first class.

Experience was fine. Seats were cramped, and we had to wait for repairs before we could take of. Even though the door remained open, we were warned that leaving the plane could cause difficulty trying to fly out later. Staff was pleasant, and climate control was fortunately working. We had trouble at the DFW terminal, but I don't think that was AA's fault.

No complaints. Good WiFi, great crew and excellent speedy baggage claim

Excellent accommodating crew at gate and on board. Baggage claim and gate checking were flawless.

temp inside the plane was very hot and could not be adjusted.

The flight crew was fantastic! Which the seats had a small TV.

Leg room limited compared with previous flight from Hong Kong. Other than that. Still good value.

Staff were amazing but there check in machines need a major update! Absolutely horrible machines the staff were so sweet and helped but everyone. Was in need of help. They need to update it

I wasnt able to choose my seat during booking my flight _months_ in advance and then when I checked in for my flight, I _still_ couldnt choose my seat. I was finally able to get a seat when I got to the gate, and they stuck me in a middle seat next to a jerk. This was my return flight, and on my departing flight I was able to choose my seat, so I dont understand what the issue was but it was very annoying and a miserable ~6.5 hours on the return flight.

Gate changed twice, boarding late. However, there was more than usual leg room. Crew was fine. No entertainment due to computer problem.

Could have a somewhat larger snacks. Appreciate the free wine.

I don’t think the on-board testing worked on any of the 4 Air Canada flights for this trip. And in this particular flight, the entertainment and WiFi was out for a portion of the journey.

Seat change. New seat 5 rows back from our group. Flight ok but we had to wait for half an hour after we landed for the gate.

Everything was fine, would have been excellent if there was a tv for the passengers to make the trip go faster. Crew was great and the flight was smooth. Snacks and beverages are always a plus.

Very pleasant experience, smooth check-in, nice staff, great flight attendants.

Great communication from pilot on 1st half of flight. Shitty communication on 2nd half. I tried a personal screening device for the first time which meant I couldn't hear any announcements. I don't think this is a safe option.

Well, the seats were SO tiny. I’m five-foot ten-inches talk as a woman and thank god I wasn’t more than 150 pounds as I would not have fit at all. I understand there are the “big seats”for an upgrade or a blocked middle seat but I was not prepared for the size. Also, there was an incident on the plane with a man who wound up being escorted off the plane at landing by TSA… I understand this was not in the control of the flight crew BUT the flight attendants were arguing amongst themselves at the front of the plane and we could hear them. There was a flight attendant in her 50s scolding a male flight attendant for “placating the guy” that was causing a ruckus and telling him “you should have been on our side not his.” Not only was this unprofessional to do in front of passengers, but it caused anxiety in nearby people including myself. We don’t want to feel like there is a potential danger on the flight - 9/11 flashbacks. The flight crew should remain calm and I believe the male flight attendant was in the right in trying to calm the man who was an issue.

Flight delayed. Seat assignment doesn’t get assign until last minute. Seats don’t recline and very stiff

4 hours delayed. once we got boarded anotger hour and a half delayed

Got on quickly and easily. When it turned out the other two seats in my row would be occupied, a nearby flight attendant immediately let me know that I could move one row behind me since it was an empty row, I moved into the window seat where I could relax enough to take a little nap. Can’t ask for much more.

We had a 40 mins delay, but the pilot was good about keeping up informed. No food/snacks or drinks when u in the air-they have to be purchased. They charge for every single thing .

I’m not a fan of Spirit Airlines from a not-so-good experience the last time & I swore I would not fly this airline again- bc they charge for EVERYTHING. I only flew Spirit this time bc it wasn’t my choice. I decided to use a “Mystery Ticket” bc of the great price, not knowing it would choose this airline! I found out on this trip how they pick a random seat with a “sticker” for a prize-are we in first grade? just doesn’t seem right & now the first 3 or 4 rows get special treatment-we all paid for our tickets, not just them.

particularly nothing to like plane just turned to be a hmm flying bus, yet in buses from another country at least drink and snack are free ... and seat could be just a bit more ..adjustable? ok ok i know i am asking for too much but ..dreaming is not forbidden yet

Fantastic !!! Seamless boarding. Meticulously clean. We left and arrived early.

The flight was delayed, and we waited for more than an hour on the plane.

Comfortable and plenty of. Having to buy water and coffee, though is ridiculous!
