Why a mini cruise?

A mini-cruise is ideal if you are not yet sure whether a longer cruise is right for you or if you have a new cruise line in mind and want to experience some of the things it has to offer. Starting at the harbour you then sail (usually at night) towards the destination. During the day you stop at interesting ports in between and have enough time there for sightseeing, shopping or culinary delights.

Although these trips are much shorter, usually about 3 or 4 days, than on a normal trip, you still have all the amenities such as restaurants, bars, entertainment programs, sports activities and much more available. So you get to know the cruise line on a short cruise and know immediately if it suits you. With minimal effort you can appreciate what cruising has to offer.

  Mini cruise worldwide

Taster cruises are offered worldwide, so you are not bound to a particular departure ports. How about a Caribbean cruise , if you have planned a longer vacation there anyway? So you can ideally combine your holiday with a little taster trip. Even Mediterranean cruises and Asia cruises are available. Be inspired to experience the delights of cruising!

Frequently asked questions about our Short Cruise Breaks

On our Short Break holidays, you might visit:

Amsterdam in the Netherlands

Bruges (from Zeebrugge) in Belgium

Cherbourg in France

Hamburg in Germany

Le Havre in France

Rotterdam in the Netherlands

St Peter Port, Guernsey, in the Channel Islands

Bruges (from Zeebrugge)

Yes, guests can take alcohol on a cruise.

What drinks can you take on P&O Cruises short breaks?

Each guest aged 18 years (21 years in United States of America ports) and older may bring up to one litre of wine or Champagne on board when they embark the ship for the first time only. Wine or Champagne over the one-litre limit will be stored and returned to the guest prior to the end of the cruise. If this alcohol is consumed in the dining rooms, bars, restaurants or lounge areas, it will be subject to a corkage fee of £20* per bottle, per occasion, which will be charged to the guest’s on-board account.

Other alcohol types such as spirits are considered restricted items and guests are prohibited from bringing them on board when they first embark the ship.

*prices subject to change

It’s always worth checking the local weather before you head off on a Short Break, but in the summer you’ll generally need to dress for the heat (think dresses, shorts, t-shirts, sandals – and don’t forget your swimming costume) while the winter usually calls for layers and thick coats.

During your days on board, you can dress in whatever you like. However, on all our ships, we have two dress codes that apply in the evenings: Evening Casual and Black Tie. For nights when the dress code is Evening Casual, you can bring out your best shirt, dress and smart, dark denim. For nights where the dress code is Black Tie, make sure you pack your best tux, suit or cocktail dress.

There are some venues on each ship where dress codes don’t apply, so make sure you check your Horizon paper that’s delivered to your cabin each day to check where these are, as they vary ship by ship. For those travelling on family-friendly ships, dress codes also don’t apply to children aged 17 and under.

We tend to visit Hamburg in December on our Short Break holidays when it’s fairly frosty. Hamburg usually has highs of 5˚C and lows of 1˚C in December, with an average of 12 days of rain – but you might be lucky enough to be there when it snows.

The best time of year to head to Bruges is up to you – what do you want from the weather? What activities do you fancy doing? We’ve got Short Break cruise holidays that visit Bruges (from Zeebrugge) almost year-round. If you’re dreaming of walking around a chilly Christmas market with a hot chocolate (or mulled wine) in hand, December is the month for you. Or, if you’d rather be a bit warmer as you cycle through the countryside or wander medieval streets, April or May might be a better choice. A visit in October will add autumnal magic to a stroll along the canals as the leaves fall around you.

The best time of year to cruise to Amsterdam depends on what you’d like out of your holiday. Do you prefer the sun or a winter chill? Do you want to see the Light Festival and wander Christmas markets? Or would you rather see the world’s largest flower garden (think miles of tulips, daffodils and hyacinths) in bloom in the spring? How about cruising the canals in the heat of the summer sun, cocktail in hand? We visit Amsterdam almost year-round so that no matter your holiday style, you’ll find a Short Break cruise holiday to suit you.

Amsterdam is famous for its art galleries and museums (from the Van Gogh Museum to the Anne Frank house), beautiful canals, interesting architecture and lively nightlife. You’ll also find a deliciously innovative food scene and, in the spring, thousands upon thousands of tulips covering the city in a kaleidoscope of colours.

Summer brings warmth and sunshine to Amsterdam (with an average temperature of around 23°C) while winters are cold and bring a likely chance of snow. Amsterdam’s spring is fairly mild, heating up and drying out as it gets closer to summer, while autumn brings a good chance of rain as it cools down towards the end of the year.

Where can I go on a mini cruise in 2023 & 2024

Amsterdam, netherlands.

A true capital of culture, Amsterdam is a must-see city. Navigate its Golden age canals, explore the 'Dutch' way by bike, take in its vibrant arts scene, or venture out of the city and explore the Netherland's beautiful countryside and charming villages on our Amsterdam mini cruises.

Visit the Flower Auction at Aalsmeer

Immerse yourself in the fragrant aromas and dazzling colors, and learn about the sophisticated sorting process on the auction floor where millions of flowers are bought and sold daily.

Explore Amsterdam by boat

Amsterdam has more than 160 canals and 1,500 bridges and there's nothing like seeing a city from the water. Discover the central canal area, or “Canal Belt,” which was built in the 17th century during the Dutch Golden Age, gliding by 400 year old warehouses, mansions and historic churches.

Discover iconic museums and galleries

Amsterdam has museums and galleries for every interest. From the Van Gogh museum boasting the largest collection of paintings by the artist to Anne Frank's house, to lesser know gems such as Electric Ladyland, dedicated to flourescent art.

Bruges, Belgium

Cities don’t get much prettier than Bruges. Picture quaint cobbled lanes, fairy tale spires and mirror-like canals; a place where photogenic market squares give way to networks of secretive streets. Of course, don't forget to sample the region's signature beer and chocolate on a short cruise to Bruges.

Learn the art of chocolate making

As you make your way to Damme near the Dutch border, you'll pass charming villages, ride under the shade of lush trees, admire countryside farms, and view Belgium's windmills.

A mini cruise with the same magical feeling.

If you're looking to enjoy a cruise with Ambassador Cruise Line but don't have time for a long trip, then our range of mini cruises are perfect for you. Our mini cruises are all four days or less, meaning you don't need to worry about being away from home for too long.

Even though you are only away for up to four days doesn't mean you can't visit some magical locations on your short break. Head on an Amsterdam  or  Netherlands mini cruis e  and meander around the quaint canals, visit the traditional windmills and tulip fields or enjoy a festive markets cruise where you will be able to embrace the Christmas spirit.

Alternatively, if it’s just the cruising experience you want, some of our shortest cruises give you the chance to get on board, enjoy the ship for a night or two and return home without visiting any destinations. Instead of a hotel stay, why not spend a day or two onboard one of our ships and embrace everything that’s great about a cruise holiday?

Although on a short cruise you'll be spending less time travelling than on a traditional cruise break , you'll still get the opportunity to enjoy wonderful destination experiences and the facilities on offer onboard our amazing ships. Our mini cruise deals offer the very best experiences including onboard entertainment, wonderful meals in a selection of amazing restaurants and amazing spa and leisure facilities.

WHY CHOOSE A MINI CRUISE DEAL?

If this is your first time considering a mini cruise, you might be wondering what makes them such an ideal choice for UK holiday-goers.

There are many different reasons why our customers love our mini cruises, but one of the most popular aspects is the number of incredible destinations you can see in a very short period of time. Some people believe that a mini cruise means less time visiting new countries or cities but, in fact, these short cruises are designed to fit more into your itinerary than most regular trips would allow. The UK is ideally positioned for mini cruises to both Northern Europe and the Mediterranean, where passengers can experience a diverse range of culture, scenery and entertainment.

From the romance of Rome to the majestic Norwegian Fjords, a short cruise deal can turn your next few days of annual leave into an adventure.

WHERE WILL OUR SHORT CRUISES TAKE YOU?

If you’ve found yourself with some extra holiday time available, but you haven’t made up mind yet as to where you want to go, our range of mini cruise itineraries and destinations will help you to feel inspired:

The buzzing beachside city of Barcelona is one of Europe’s most popular destinations, with incredible architecture, art and food waiting to be discovered down in every hip neighbourhood and down even cobbled, gothic street.

Experience the best of Barcelona – from the colourful designs of Gaudi at the Sagrada Familia to the spectacular cathedral – with one of our Barcelona and Med Taster mini cruises. With itineraries that include a pre-cruise stay in the city, as well as stops in popular Mediterranean ports such as Savona in Italy and Marseille in France, you’ll be amazed at how much of the sun-soaked Med you can see during a short cruise break.

With some of our cruise tasters, you don’t even need to leave the UK to feel like your truly on holiday! Sail from Southampton to the Chanel Island of Guernsey, where warm weather, golden beaches and stunning coastal walks await before continuing on to France.

For such a small island – you can drive around Guernsey in just over an hour – it holds many important and impressive historical sites, including the famous “Cup and Saucer” or Fort Grey.

In the pretty St. Peter Port, visitors will find a charming mix of British and French influences, with traditional English pubs and quaint European style architecture.

Few destinations in the world can claim to compare with the France’s romantic capital, aptly named the “City of Love”.

Paris has long been drawing tourists to wander the banks of the Seine, sip coffee alfresco along the cobbled streets and gaze in wonder at the Eiffel Tower, and no matter what season you visited, you’ll find the city equally charming.

Alongside the popular tourist spots, including the Louvre, Notre Dame and the Sacré-Cœur, visitors can indulge in luxury fashion, some of the world’s finest cuisine and plenty of delicious local wine.

With one of our great mini cruise deals, you can sail directly from the UK for two or more nights onboard a luxury liner, with plenty of time to see and experience the sights of Paris for yourself.

Escape the grey skies of the UK for a taste of “La Dolce Vita”, with one of our mini cruises to Rome. The romantic Eternal City is home to some of Italy’s, and the world’s, most famous landmarks – including the incredible Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain and St. Peter's Basilica.

Once you’ve had your fill of amazing artwork, architecture and history, the city is a maze of cobbled streets filled with restaurants, bars and cafes, just waiting to be discovered.

Alongside the wonders of Rome, many of our short cruise deals include other popular Mediterranean ports, such as the lively city of Naples – famed for being the birthplace of Italy’s most popular export, pizza!

The best short cruises for a mini-break with a difference

Everything you need to know about mini-cruises and the ones to book for 2021

best short cruises

Whether you're short on time or simply fancy taking an alternative mini-break, a short cruise could be the answer to getting back into the world and enjoy the luxuries of a cruise ship along the way.

You might be a first-timer looking to try cruising, or a seasoned cruiser opting for a short but sweet trip this time - whatever your reason for considering a short cruise holiday, you'll want to read on to find out everything you need to know about mini-cruises and the best ones to take this year.

What is a short cruise, or mini-cruise?

In a nutshell, a short cruise is a cruise holiday under seven nights. It could be anything from a one-night cruise to a long weekend cruise or five days of exploring a number of destinations - or no places at all.

The typical duration of a mini-cruise is between two and four nights, and often includes one or two ports of call.

A short cruise could take you to somewhere beautiful or nowhere, which would mean no stop offs, allowing you to admire a location from the ship and make the most of the on-board experiences.

What are the benefits of taking a mini-cruise?

Ideal for dipping your toes into the world of cruising if you're a newbie, a mini-cruise is an excellent way to get a feel for holidays at sea. If you've been cruising for years but usually find yourself venturing to far-flung places, a short cruise is a terrific way to explore somewhere closer to home, or simply treat yourself to a few nights on a state-of-the-art ship before holidays abroad are allowed again.

There are many advantages to taking a mini-cruise. For those who have little time for a holiday, a mini-cruise provides another way for you to spend a long weekend, especially if you don't fancy a hotel or self-catering break.

Another benefit is that short cruises are affordable, giving you a purse-friendly option if you love cruises but your budget doesn't stretch to a fortnight in the Caribbean or Asia. You'll find many two-night cruises available for under £300, which is cheaper than some hotel stays in the UK!

What's the best way to plan a short cruise?

The beauty of a shorter sailing is that you don't need to invest as much time, energy and money when it comes to planning, compared to when you're booking a seven or 14-night escape.

Planning ahead is always advisable to bag the cabin type of your choice, get a table at the top restaurants or experience the theatre show of your choice, but mini- cruises aren't just for early birds. There are last-minute short cruises available if you're looking to book a quick getaway at home this summer.

Which cruise lines offer mini-cruises?

You'll find the likes of Princess Cruises , Fred.Olsen Cruise Lines , P&O Cruises , Cunard and MSC Cruises operating mini-cruises that take you around the UK, to Northern Europe, Spain, France, or nowhere at all so they can show off their fantastic on-board facilities, which can range from sparkling spas to top-notch dining.

New cruise line Tradewind Voyages also offers short cruises for exploring various regions of the UK this summer, while Virgin Voyages has launched long weekends from Portsmouth that allow you to get a taste of its stylish new ship this August.

What are the best mini-cruises?

Short & sweet: 8 best mini cruises in 2023 & 2024

Mini cruise holidays are becoming much more popular with younger travellers looking to squeeze their getaways into a long weekend – here are eight of the best in 2023 and 2024.

Words by Jeannine Williamson

Short on time, money or simply want a getaway break to unwind? A mini cruise ticks all these boxes. It’s also a great way of dipping a proverbial toe in the water if you’re new to a life at sea, or trying out a cruise line for the first time.

The quickest way to get afloat is on a short cruise from Southampton, or you can head overseas to get your mini cruise fix. Here are some of the options.

Santorini greece

Speedy Greek getaway Celestyal Cruises mini cruise

Fancy seeing the most sun-drenched and Instagrammable Greek islands but don’t have oodles of time? You can do it with Celestyal Cruises.

The budget-friendly Greek line has three- and four-night mini cruises that are big on sights. In fact, you’ll likely see more than many people do in a week staying on land.

The round-trip sailings from Athens visit places like uber-trendy Mykonos – keep your eyes peeled and you may well spot some celebs – and the sun-bleached showstopper Santorini.

If you’re feeling a bit more cultural you can explore ancient sites on your mini cruise as well. Back onboard, Celestyal ships provide an extension of the friendly, laid-back Greek lifestyle. They’re not at all stuffy and you can strut your stuff at Greek dance classes, emboldened by the drinks that are included in the fare.

Channel Island hop MSC Cruises mini cruise

Take a two-night mini cruise to Guernsey out of Southampton on MSC Cruises’ big, bold and blingy MSC Virtuosa.

You’ll spend a day in the compact capital St Peter Port where the waterfront is lined with bars and places to eat. Don’t leave without ordering some ice cream made with creamy milk from the island’s doe-eyed golden cows.

On the ship you can sashay up glittering staircases studded with thousands of Swarovski crystals, shop ‘til you drop in designer boutiques and order a drink from Rob , who presides over the Starship Club and is the first humanoid robotic bartender at sea. There are dates to choose from in 2024.

rob-the-robot msc virtuosa

Paint the town red Virgin Voyages mini cruise

Enjoy full-on adult-only fun (wink, wink) on a four-night round-trip sailing from Miami with Virgin Voyages . Virgin revolutionised cruising with ships that reinvented dining , with a street food-style food court, funky cabins with hammocks on the balcony and amazing Rock Star suites equipped with guitars and tables designed to dance on.

Scarlet Lady is a child-free ship where late-night revellers can throw moves in the outsize nightclub, The Manor, and watch festival-like pop-up acts around the vessel.

There’s a stop in cosmopolitan Key West on these mini cruises and a day at Virgin’s private Beach Club in Bimini where you can dive, snorkel or simply chill out in a cabana with another cocktail.

Stylish sundowners Marella Cruises mini cruise

If you can make your holiday stretch to five nights take a look at Marella Cruises ’  Mediterranean Sunsets sailings on Marella Explorer.

The ship has a bumper batch of 10 bars, including the Indigo Bar which is the longest in the Marella fleet , so you can pick your perfect spot for a sundowner. The sailing from Corfu to Malaga includes calls at Alicante and in between there are two days at sea to kick back and enjoy all the onboard attractions.

The lively entertainment scene stretches into the early hours with silent discos and eighties and nineties-themed nights. Other haunts include The Lounge with its colour-changing bar and hot pink piano.

Old Fortress of Corfu, greek island cruises

It’s such a perfect day Royal Caribbean mini cruise

Escape the British winter and January blues to soak up some Caribbean sunshine on one of Royal Caribbean’s four-night Bahamas and Perfect Day mini cruises out of Miami.

After a stop in Nassau, where the Straw Market near the docking spot is a great place to pick up inexpensive hats, bags and jewellery, there’s the Perfect Day at CocoCay . Royal Caribbean’s 120-acre private island is jam-packed with things to do including a waterpark where thrill seekers can tackle Daredevil’s Peak, the tallest slide in North America.

The fun continues back on Freedom of the Seas with its FlowRider surf simulator and glow-in-the-dark laser tag area Clash for the Crystal City. There’s a sailing on January 8, 2024, with similar itineraries available year-round.

Chocs away Celebrity Cruises mini cruise

Get your fill of Belgian waffles, chocolate and a glass or two of one of the country’s 1,500 different beers on a four-day mini cruise from Southampton with Celebrity Cruises .

You can also sign up for a chocolate-making demo followed by an all-important tasting. Leaving on August 23, 2024, the Bruges and Netherlands long weekend also includes a trip to Rotterdam.

If you’ve got a head for heights, and want the best views of the city, head up the 180m Euromast which is the highest observation platform in Holland.

You’ll be aboard the stylish Celebrity Apex where you can sip artisan cocktails such as Forbidden in the whimsical Eden bar, sit in flower-shaped chairs and try to resist touching pink ostrich feather ‘trees’.

Bruges, Belgium

Sound waves Norwegian Cruise Line mini cruise

Forget having to hunt for your tent and the possibility of downpours and mud by going to a music festival at sea. Norwegian Cruise Line hosts some of the best and as they’re held in the Caribbean sunshine is guaranteed.

If you’re an R&B fan and want to do something different next Valentine’s Day Maxwell’s four-day Urban Hang Suite Cruise leaves Miami on February 10, 2024. Grammy-award-winning artist Maxwell will perform two concerts and will be more live music from the likes of Ledisi, Robert Glasper, Sabrina Claudio, and Musiq Soulchild, plus DJs, comedy and parties.

Norwegian Pearl stops at Nassau and Great Stirrup Cay, the line’s private island Bahamian playground. Back onboard you don’t need to worry about going thirsty as O’Sheehan’s Irish pub is open 24/7.

Push the boat out Cunard mini cruise

Live a posh Titanic-style lifestyle (minus any icebergs and sinking of course) with Cunard . You can get a taste of the luxe line on a budget with one of the mini cruises from Southampton.

Bag a cabin for less than £300 on a two-night jaunt on the flagship Queen Mary 2 departing on October 20, 2023, and immerse yourself in the retro glamour of afternoon tea served by white-gloved waiters.

There’s a stop in Hamburg , one of Germany’s most multicultural cities, where you can join the local beer culture and sip the city’s own pilsner. Need something stronger? Order lutt um lutt , which is beer fortified with fiery schnapps.

Top 10 Reasons to Take a Mini-Cruise

mini cruise january

A mini-cruise is a great way of dipping your toe tentatively into the water if you're new cruising. It's also a wonderful way to spend a few short indulgent days at sea if you're short on time or budget and can't stretch to far-flung cruises.

P&O Cruises, Cunard, Saga Cruises, Ambassador Cruise Line and Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines are among the lines you could sail with on a short-break cruise. You can find mini cruises as brief as just one night or longer voyages of up to five nights -- so there's bound to be an itinerary available to inspire you.

Here are our top 10 reasons to take a mini-cruise.

1. New To Cruising? Test the Water Before Committing to a Longer Cruise

mini cruise january

If you're brand new to the world of cruising, a mini-cruise is a fantastic way to "try before you buy" -- or, at least, try before you buy an expensive longer cruise. So investing in a mini-cruise before you book a transatlantic trip, for example, is a sensible move. Hopefully, any concerns you might have about feeling seasick or claustrophobic, the food and accommodation options, being bored onboard or simply not enjoying cruising for any other reason will be dealt with and you'll join the ranks of cruising converts.

And if you're really unsure, you can even pick up one-night taster cruises within the UK (which usually coincide with the ship repositioning from one port to another). Fred. Olsen, for example, is offering one-nighters from Newcastle to Edinburgh and from Liverpool to Southampton. Ambassador Cruise Line is offering two-night tasters to Amsterdam from London Tilbury on new ship, Ambition .

2. To Test A New Cruise Line Out

mini cruise january

Even if you're not completely new to cruising, a mini cruise offers the chance to test a new ship, cruise line or destination before you make the switch. Experiences can vary wildly between the different cruise lines -- from stylish Celebrity Cruises to more formal cruising on Cunard, Saga and Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines and family-friendly lines such as P&O Cruises and Royal Caribbean -- so loving one doesn't necessarily mean you'll love another. Booking a few nights onboard is a brilliant way to test the waters.

3. To Enjoy a Luxury Holiday for Less

mini cruise january

Forget camping or holiday parks. If you're looking for a budget holiday that still offers a little luxury (and a proper bed) a mini cruise is the perfect purse-friendly option. For example, you could sail away on Cunard's Queen Mary 2 , Queen Victoria or Queen Elizabeth to a number of nearby destinations including Bruges, Hamburg, Amsterdam and Guernsey , for as little as £199 per person for two nights (based on an inside cabin). You'll feel like royalty as you enjoy luxurious amenities including 24-hour room service, traditional afternoon tea and nightly turndown and the renowned White Star Service -- which sets out to go above and beyond passengers' expectations -- without having to pay a king's ransom for the privilege.

4. It’s a Quick Fix

mini cruise january

If it's time rather than money you're short of, a mini-cruise is the ideal choice for a quick holiday fix. Even a three-night cruise can take you to another country, making it easy to squeeze an adventure into a weekend -- and fantastic cruise ship facilities make getting there all part of the holiday. On P&O Cruises Ventura dine at multiple restaurants and take in extravagant shows, enjoy a swim, relax in the spa and even learn circus skills at Cirque Ventura while sailing to Guernsey, Bruges and Amsterdam.

5. Discover What's On Your Doorstep

mini cruise january

A mini-cruise is a great way to discover destinations on your doorstep. New cruise line Ambassador Cruise Line, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines and P&O Cruises are three UK cruise lines to consider for exploring the British Isles and nearby destinations like the Channel Islands, Scotland and Ireland. You can pack much more into a few days when you leave the car at home and cruise between destinations.

For example, a four-night cruise from Southampton allows you an overnight stay in port in Amsterdam or a day in Bruges for a culture-filled short break.

6. Taste the High Life in the Mediterranean

mini cruise january

If experiencing four or five-star luxury is your kind of holiday, it's possible to taste the high life without breaking the bank when you scale down your cruise holiday duration. You can sail between Copenhagen, Denmark, and Oslo, Norway or round-trip from Barcelona on the beautiful Azamara Pursuit on a five-night luxury mini-cruise. Or spend five nights on a Star Clippers masted tall ship cruising from Rome to Cannes on a five-night short cruise or, a three-night sailing round trip from Venice visiting Croatia and Slovenia on a three-night mini-cruise from £750 per person.

7. Most Mini Cruises Are No-Fly Sailings, Which Means No Airport Stress

mini cruise january

When you choose a no-fly mini-cruise you cut out the airport hassles that usually come with an overseas holiday, which you don't want to deal with when holiday time is short. Although Southampton is the UK's largest cruise port, many lines sail from other ports, too, so it's possible to choose an on-the-doorstep departure. For example, Fred. Olsen sails from a mix of Southampton, Dover, Liverpool, Newcastle, Glasgow (Greenock), Edinburgh (Rosyth) and Belfast and Saga Cruises sails from Dover and Ambassador Cruise Line sails from Tilbury, Essex.

8. Everything is On Your Doorstep

mini cruise january

If you've only got the time and money for a short break, a cruise allows you to cram as much as possible into what time you have available. Instead of trekking across a city to find the best bars and restaurants, you'll have them just steps from your cabin door. The bigger ships have other attractions, with everything from waterparks, cinemas, rock climbing walls, skydiving, ziplines and more. On Royal Caribbean's UK-based Anthem of the Seas ships you can surf, skydive or ice skate, then stroll back to your cabin for a quick change before heading out to dinner and a West End show -- with no worries about getting a taxi at the end of the night.

9. A Mini Cruise Offers a Fun Themed Getaway

mini cruise january

If you've got a group holiday like a hen party or a birthday celebration to plan, a themed mini-cruise will take all the hassle out of the organisation. Christmas market cruises are popular, combining shopping with festive fun. Choose from a long list of possible destinations including Dublin, Antwerp, Amsterdam, Bruges and Hamburg.

10. You Could Add a Mini Cruise onto a Land-Based Holiday

mini cruise january

For those who like holidays to last as long as possible, adding a mini-cruise to the end of a break can make a getaway extra special. Wherever you jet off to, tagging on a cruise is usually easy and will add a whole new element to your experience. Many travel agents and cruise lines offer cruise and stay options, where they'll organise the package for you. Two nights in Barcelona followed by a five-night cruise around the Mediterranean on Disney Magic might be a front-runner for families with young children. Or maybe you fancy adding a Caribbean cruise onto a long-haul escape? Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruises have lots of three or four-night island-hop cruises to choose from.

A walking tour of this vibrant city will allow you to truly soak up its cultural highlights, as well as Hope Street, a must-visit for delectable cuisine and classic pubs.

DAY 2 06 Jan 2024

Take time to enjoy all the amazing facilities the ship has to offer

Southampton

DAY 3 07 Jan 2024

The UK’s largest cruise port and where many will begin their cruise holiday, Southampton has no shortage of maritime and historical attractions. Discover local landmarks on a walking tour including 30 ancient monuments, learn about the tragic story of the Titanic and escape to the great outdoors at the New Forest National Park. With numerous options for seafood dining and even a free art gallery, Southampton is an undoubtedly great destination for a pre or post-cruise stay.

Thing to do

Dedicated to the tragedy of the Titanic, SeaCity Museum excellently portrays the aftermath through interactive exhibits. Featuring a 1:25 scale model of the ship, visitors learn about life onboard as well as the disaster that deeply affected Southampton in 1912.

Thing to do

Home to over 20 aircraft that were integral to the war effort, Solent Sky Museum is dedicated to the history of the RAF. Southampton itself played a large role in producing Supermarine Spitfires, which you’ll learn all about here.

Thing to do

If you’re looking to escape the busy port city, the New Forest National Park is just a short distance away with native New Forest ponies and lush heathland. Visitors can also catch events, activities and workshops throughout the year.

Thing to do

As Southampton’s most important historic building, this restored home holds over 800 years of history after having numerous owners. Now a museum, it showcases many artefacts once belonging to past residents of Southampton, as well as a Tudor House Café.

Thing to do

Since opening in 1939, this free art gallery has showcased exhibitions of sculptures, photography and traditional paintings. Thanks to an ever-changing programme of activities, you’ll find something here that the whole family will enjoy.
