- 100 % users like this story
Cruise control is one of the most sophisticated systems in new modern cars today. On the general front, several benefits are associated with Cruise control: giving more time for your legs to relax, improving fuel efficiency, managing speed with buttons, and integrating automatic transmission. And with Cruise Control in the new Tata Nexon, consumers have the privilege to control speed for smooth movement automatically. This post will study the different aspects of Cruise control in the newly launched Tata Nexon SUV.
Starting Guide
You can check the Cruise Control lamp on the Nexon dashboard to check its status. You can start this Cruise control function via the SET button, and the Green signal indicates its ON status.
Deactivating
There are two ways to deactivate this Cruise control system in Nexon either by:
- Applying Brakes or Clutch,
- Pressing the deactivate button or switch on the steering wheel.

Resorting to Previous Settings
You can also get the last cruise control settings. But you need to first accelerate the vehicle to the same speed at a specific gear.
- 3rd gear from 30 Kmph to 80 Kmph
- 4th gear from 40 kmph to 120 Kmph
- 5th gear from 50 kmph to 140 Kmph
Shifting Procedure
For changing the speed to the next gear, you can manage that with respective buttons + for the increase and - for the decrease. A single press is enough to get that desired change in the speed and simultaneously show on it. If you press the switch continuously, then the relative function will increase or decrease for that particular gear limit. You can also simultaneously use the accelerator to get the car to a specific speed and use the SET button to get cruise control in motion.
Lowering Speed
You can also further lower or decrease the brake pedal speed that will change the cruise control indicator to OFF. And once you get to the respective speed, you can again push the SET button to start the Nexon cars Cruise control.
Cruise Reset Procedure
Here is your step by step guide for resetting the Cruise control for the Tata Nexon.
- Push the Cruise control master switch present on the steering wheel
- Increase or accelerate to the specific speed without pressing the clutch or Brake pedals.
- Then press the SET buttons on the dashboard of the steering wheel to get to the required speed. This will turn the ON indicator for cruise control.
- You can now enjoy and relax your legs to remove from the accelerator pedal to keep the Nexon at a particular speed.
Overall, Cruise Control has been a successful addition to the popular Nexon car and adds more features to this great car gaining new consumers for enjoying the smooth ride. Tata Nexon is one of the most popular sub-4 meter compact SUV in the segment. It competes with SUVs like Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300 in the segment. It is popular among buyers for its build quality and is one of the safest car with 5 Star safety rating in the segment. It is available with both petrol and diesel engine options with manual and AMT gearbox options. Number of aftermarket accessories are now available in the market for Tata Nexon and we have seen several examples of the same on our website too. Here we have a XMS trim Tata Nexon SUV that is fitted with several aftermarket accessories.
The video has been uploaded by Rohit Mehta Sai Auto Accessories on their YouTube channel. In this video, vlogger shows all the modifications that are done to the SUV. Starting with the front, it gets a black diffuser or bumper protector at the front. The diffuser has red highlights at places to give it a sporty touch. A silver colour skid plate is also included in this protector.

The stock lights in the fog lamp have been replaced with aftermarket LED lights. The headlights now gets HID lights and it has a gloss black garnish running around it. A Nexon badging is done on the bonnet and an LED DRL strip is also seen running between the headlights. As we move to the side profile, the vlogger shows aftermarket dual tone wheel caps which give it an alloy wheel like look.
Other than that, there is a rain visor with mirror finished garnish on it. The door handles are black and not body coloured or chrome. Usage of chrome garnish on this Nexon is very less and that gives it a neat look overall. At the rear, the stock tri-arrow design split LED lights are retained. The bumper however gets a diffuser in gloss black finish with silver inserts. The diffuser also has four faux chrome exhaust tips in it.
Moving inside, the Nexon gets an illuminated scuff plates. The interiors have been redone to give it a premium look. The SUV door pads get a walnut colour leather padding and the seats also get custom made walnut coloured seat covers with white and black inserts. Vlogger mentions that the speakers on this Nexon have not been replaced. It however gets an aftermarket touchscreen infotainment screen. This is an Android touch system that supports several features.
Nexon gets 7D floor mats and there are blue LED lights in the foot well area as well. They have also installed an aftermarket armrest which is wrapped in the walnut colour leatherette material. The work done on this Nexon looks very neat. Tata is also offering Nexon as an EV in the market and it is currently the most affordable and best selling electric SUV in India. Tata Nexon is available with two engine options. There is a 1.2 litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates 120 Ps and 170 Nm of torque. The diesel version of Nexon is powered by a 1.5 litre turbo diesel engine generating 110 Ps and 260 Nm of peak torque.

Engine & Transmission
Timely services will keep a motor efficient and in top shape.
The official title given by the manufacturer in terms of the name of the engine, the displacement and the number of cylinders.
A bigger displacement and more than four-cylinders generally indicate a performance-oriented engine.
All cars in India either run on petrol, diesel, CNG, LPG or electric power.
Gives a good idea of the performance of the vehicle under full thrust. A higher figure here usually means a higher top speed as well.
Higher the power, the peppier the engine but it can also affect fuel economy.
Relates to in-gear acceleration. A higher figure here means better roll-on acceleration, fewer gear shifts, and possibly better fuel efficiency.
The more torque at low RPM range makes the engine feel more responsive. It also allows the engine to run smoothly without too many gear changes.
This is the maximum fuel efficiency that an engine gives. All numbers are provided by the manufacturer based on tests conducted and specified by the standards of the ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India)
Such fuel efficiency attained while driving in special conditions makes it unlikely to get it in real-world conditions
Approximate maximum number of kilometers which can be traveled on a full tank of fuel or fully charged battery
Cars come with different drivetrain configurations depending on the segment.
Front-wheel drive (FWD) is most common in mainstream cars while expensive cars or SUVs come with rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).
Type of transmission used to transfer power from the engine to the wheels
A manually operated transmission is the most popular type, thanks to its simplicity and low cost. Varied types of automatic transmissions are also available.
Set by the Indian Government, this governs the amount of air pollutants released by cars to make the atmosphere safer for humans.
Manufacturers today offer turbochargers to boost engine power without affecting its fuel economy. Superchargers are found in more expensive cars but on the downside, they are not very efficient.
Turbochargers are more effective but require plenty of heat management. Superchargers, meanwhile, offer linear bump in power but they are comparatively more complex.
Dimensions & Weight
The length of the car decides its segment. In India, cars that are less than 4 metres in length enjoy reduced excise duties.
- Length: 3993
Longer length results in more cabin space. It also adds to straight line stability.
A car's width is defined as its widest point without its mirrors.
- Width: 1811
Although more width gives you more lateral space inside the cabin, it makes the car more difficult to park in narrow spots.
The height of the car denotes the highest point of the vehicle from the ground.
- Height: 1606
Taller the car, the more headroom there is on offer inside the cabin. However, a tall boy stance also affect the car’s centre of gravity which can cause more body roll.
The space between the center of the front and rear wheels.
- Wheelbase: 2498
The longer the wheelbase, the more space there is inside the cabin.
It’s the space between the lowest point of the car and the ground.
- Ground Clearance: 209
If the car has a good amount of clearance, it’s easier for it to clear big speed breakers and overall, deal with bad roads.
The number of doors define the category of car. For example – four door means sedan, two-door means coupe while five-doors usually refer to a hatchback, MPV or an SUV.
The number of people that can be seated comfortably in the car, which has also been mandated by the car manufacturer.
- Seating Capacity: 5
Smaller cars usually have two rows which can seat five, but some SUVs and MPVs have three rows and can seat around 7-8 passengers.
Boot space defines how practical the car is with respect to how much luggage it can carry.
- Bootspace: 350
A boot with a large and wide opening is ideal for loading heavy items. Additionally, a lower loading height also makes it easy to put in luggage.
The official volume of the fuel tank of a car, usually denoted in litres.
If a car has a large fuel tank, it can cover long distances without refuelling.
Suspensions, Brakes, Steering & Tyres
Almost all cars in India use an independent front suspension which is usually the MacPherson Strut type.
The rear suspension can either be non-independent or independent.
Most of the budget cars have non-independent suspension while the more expensive ones get independent rear suspension which offers better bump absorption.
Most of the vehicles sold in India get ventilated or non-ventilated disc brakes upfront.
- The ventilated discs are more popular thanks to them providing better stopping power and it also works well in hot conditions.
In affordable cars, drums brakes are fitted at the rear as they are cost effective.
Disc setup at the rear is now getting more popular as cars are getting faster in the real world.
The official kerb-to-kerb minimum radius a car takes to complete a 180-degree turn.
Shorter the turning radius, the lesser space you need to make a tight turn or to take a U-turn.
Almost all steering systems in cars today have an assist to help park them better at low speeds - these can be hydraulic, electro-hydraulic or electric.
The wheels used on cars are either steel rims with plastic wheel cover hub or alloy wheels on higher spec models or expensive cars.
Razor cut, or diamond cut alloy wheel design are not getting more popular. Manufacturers usually offer these in top-end trim of their car models.
Important in a country with varying quality of roads, spare wheels ensure one doesn’t get stranded when one of the main tyres gets damaged.
Select premium car models feature space savers (smaller than the stock wheels) to save on boot space.
The profile/dimension of rubber tyre that fits on the front wheels.
The profile/dimension of rubber tyre that fits on the rear wheels.
Mandatory safety system for cars sold in India, a single beep is emitted after 80kmph and continuous ones after 120kmph
This function detects when the car is drifting out of its lane and cautions the driver through audio/visual alerts
The brake lights flash in a quick intermittent fashion to indicate to the following vehicles to slow down quicker than usual
These enable users to repair a puncture effortlessly, saving the time/effort involved in replacing it with the spare wheel
Avoid driving on a flat/deflated wheel too long as it can cause expensive repairs
The driver is warned of an impending crash due to stopped/slowing vehicles ahead of them
This system automatically stops the car if it senses an obstacle where the driver fails to take action
It is imperative to pay attention while driving and rely less on such systems
This feature spots oncoming vehicles at night to shift the headlight between high and low beam
The official crash test safety rating given to a car by one of the many testing agencies around the world
Blind Spot Detection systems use sensors to detect and alert the driver of any sudden movements in his/her blind spot
This feature automatically steers the car to prevent it from moving out of the lane when there is no driver input
A windscreen-mounted camera that records the frontal view. Its primary usage is to record and gather evidence in case of an accident. A dash cam can also be used to record incidents when the car is parked and the user is away. Certain models come with both front and rear view recording.
- Airbags 2 Airbags (Driver, Passenger)
Safer three-point seatbelts for passengers seated in the middle of the second row of seats.
Budget cars are usually fitted with more economical lap belts for the middle-occupant.
A headrest for the middle occupant of the second-row of seats.
Budget cars are usually not offered with headrests for the middle occupant of the second-row to save on costs. Headrests are instrumental in reducing whiplash injuries in case of an accident
A digital gauge that provides the live status of the air pressure in every tyre of a car.

- 2024 Tata Tiago XZ Plus With Cruise Control Reaches Dealers; Deliveries To Start Soon
2024 Tata Tiago XZ Plus With Cruise Control Reaches Dealers; Deliveries To Start Soon | V3Cars
- 18 March 2024
- By Mahesh Yadav
We recently reported that the Tiago 2024 now gets cruise control in the XZ NRG and XZ Plus variants. Besides these, Tata have also added a new XZO Plus variant to the lineup. Now, we have learned that the updated Tiago variants with cruise control have started reaching dealers. Thus, we expect the deliveries to start soon.
Cars in the B1-hatchback segment like the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Maruti Suzuki Swift have offered cruise control for a good while. Adding cruise control in the Tiago is a positive move from Tata. Unfortunately, the Tiago CNG buyers will not get this feature. It’s fairly standard practice in the industry to not offer cruise control with CNG cars, especially the affordable ones.
But, it’s up to us to demand the feature from the manufacturers. Since the price gap between the XZ Plus/XZ NRG petrol and CNG is consistent (Rs. 95,000), we expect Tata to offer this feature with the Tiago CNG as well. Or, they should at least bring the XZ Plus CNG price down to account for the lack of cruise control, which is otherwise available in the XZ Plus petrol.
The Swift and Nios also don’t offer cruise control with their CNG powertrain. Tata Motors are doing ground-breaking work Tata are doing with CNG cars like:
- Offering a usable boot space
- Proving option of AMT automatic with CNG
- Bringing CNG bi-fuel option to turbo charged engines (upcoming Nexon CNG)
If there’s any brand that can buck the trend of offering cruise control in CNG cars, it has to be Tata Motors . You can often spot CNG cars running on highways. Especially the 1.2L CNG cars are more than capable of cruising on the highways. Moreover, the availability of CNG stations has also grown in recent years making it quite feasible to do a trip in a CNG car.

For quick reference, here are the current ex-showroom prices of the Tiago:
As far as buying recommendation goes, the XZO Plus petrol-manual and automatic make phenomenal sense as you don’t have to spend on cosmetic features like alloy wheels. Alloy wheels are easier to install post purchase while cruise control is not. So, the XZO Plus is now our top recommendation for Tiago petrol buyers.
