AquaClass guests, along with passengers in Sky Suite and Celebrity Suite accommodations, now receive (free of charge) two bottles of water (9 oz / 250 ml) only once – upon embarkation. Still, AquaClass passengers enjoy the beverage package perk, so they can take bottles of water for free at any of the ship bars. Celebrity Eclipse Review

celebrity cruises cabins eclipse

Celebrity Eclipse is scheduled for an extensive refurbishment in March 2020 when the ship will receive additional suites, cabin upgrades and transformations of several venues. Michael's Club will become the Retreat Lounge with its own sun deck and the Oceanview Cafe buffet and Cellar Masters wine bar will be redesigned .

Celebrity Eclipse is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful big ships we've ever sailed. Its interiors blend sophistication with a bit of whimsy -- akin to a trendy W Hotel but with softer edges.

It's a food-lovers paradise, with many options onboard from the complimentary Moonlight Sonata, which will satisfy almost any tastes, to the upscale but extra-cost French bistro Murano and the fun, animated experience at Qsine. Music fans will also appreciate the diversity of bands, duos and soloists that perform in various venues from early evening until late at night.

We love that the ship positions itself perfectly for the first timer -- not so big that it's overwhelming but not so small that you get bored. It's got a good selection of activities, the entertainment is high quality and cabins are bigger than the industry average.

On the downside, the rampant upselling and fee surcharges are a bit of a turnoff. Service is sometimes overwhelmed, and on warm sea days, the pool deck can feel crowded, especially when the ship is at its maximum capacity of 3,148.

But none of the negatives is enough to deter us from taking another cruise on this lovely ship.

Celebrity Eclipse Dress Code

Daytime: Casual throughout, with bathing suits and cover-ups common on the pool deck.

Evening: Two evening chic nights take place per seven-night cruise. The rest of the time, it's smart-casual, with sport shirts and slacks appropriate for men, while women will be comfortable in skirts or pants and blouses, or casual dresses. On "evening chic" evenings, men can ditch the full suit and tie in favor of a sport coat and collared shirt, with nice pants or even designer jeans. Women can wear cocktail dresses, sundresses, designer jeans or nice pants.

Not permitted: Swimwear, spa robes and bare feet are not permitted in the buffet, while T-shirts, tank tops and flip-flops are not allowed in the main dining room at any time; shorts are not allowed at dinner (although this rule isn't always enforced).

Everything you need to know about Celebrity Cruises cabins and suites

Ashley Kosciolek

In keeping with the ambiance on Celebrity Cruises ' vessels, the brand's accommodations offer an elevated experience without going full-on luxury. That means Celebrity's passengers can expect more sophisticated surroundings and an upscale vibe at relatively affordable prices.

Like the vessels themselves, the line's cabins are well-appointed and elegant, with modern touches that appeal to a slightly younger-than-average cruise demographic.

Learn what to expect from each room type before you book with our primer for those who are new to Celebrity.

Celebrity Cruises cabin primer

Celebrity Cruises' fleet of ships includes more than a dozen vessels that fall into four main categories : Millennium Class, Solstice Class, Edge Class and Galapagos Class. Ships in the first three classes share similarities in terms of their cabin offerings. The Galapagos-class vessels are much smaller and include a narrower selection of cabin types and amenities. Because of this, the Galapagos Class will have its own section below; the other sections of this article do not apply to the Galapagos Class.

celebrity cruises cabins eclipse

Although all of the ships' staterooms fall into the same general categories – insides, oceanviews, balconies and suites – the specific types of each vary across classes, particularly with regard to the most expensive options.

Even at the most basic level, nearly all accommodations include two twin beds that can be connected to form a king (most rooms) or queen; a desk and vanity area with a chair, drawers and a phone; nightstands with drawer space and reading lights; a sofa or plush chair; a coffee table; an in-cabin bathroom with shampoo, conditioner, body wash and towels; a closet with shelves, hanging space and bathrobes; a safe; a hair dryer; a television with a selection of movies and live TV, as well as shipboard channels and the ability to check the daily schedule and your onboard bill; a mini-fridge; a selection of outlets, including USB ports; and individual lighting and climate controls.

All cabins also come with the services of a room attendant, who will tidy your digs up to two times daily. All passengers also have access to 24-hour room service, which carries a fee of $9.95 per order, plus an 18% auto-gratuity.

celebrity cruises cabins eclipse

Across the fleet, all ships offer connecting rooms, with some of the largest suites joining to sleep up to 10 people. The line also features special accommodations for solo cruisers on a small number of its vessels (specifics are noted below under applicable cabin categories).

Further, all ships offer several accessible accommodations across all main stateroom categories (except Celebrity Solstice and Celebrity Reflection, which do not offer accessible standard balcony cabins) for passengers needing extra space for wheelchairs, walkers and scooters. Those cabins feature wider (32-inch) doorways, a 5-foot turning radius, ramped bathroom thresholds, bathroom grab bars, lowered sinks and vanities, higher toilets, roll-in showers with fold-down benches, hand-held showerheads, lowered closet bars and accessible balconies (in select staterooms).

Unless otherwise noted, all cabins are designed for double occupancy. In most cases, solo travelers staying in accommodations meant for two people will be charged an additional cruise fare, known as a single supplement. Further, some staterooms are outfitted with trundle beds, pull-down bunks or sofa beds that can accommodate up to four people per room.

Inside cabins on Celebrity ships

celebrity cruises cabins eclipse

Inside cabins on Celebrity ships run anywhere from 170 to 202 square feet, and they offer everything mentioned above. The one thing they don't have is a view.

As is implied by their name, they have no windows and no balconies for natural light or fresh air. These are stellar options for anyone on a budget or travelers who have trouble sleeping with any sort of light.

Celebrity Silhouette has four inside cabins available for solo travelers.

RELATED: 6 reasons to book an inside cabin

Oceanview cabins on Celebrity ships

celebrity cruises cabins eclipse

Oceanview cabins on Celebrity ships come in at between 170 and 242 square feet, depending on the ship and type.

True to their name, these rooms offer views of the ocean from windows that don't open, so although there are no in-cabin ocean breezes, there is natural light.

They include all of the basic amenities listed above.

Balcony cabins on Celebrity ships

celebrity cruises cabins eclipse

There are several veranda categories available throughout the Celebrity fleet, all of which offer traditional balcony setups. Types include basic balcony cabins (170 to 202 square feet, 38- to 53-square-foot balcony), Family Verandas (270 to 575 square feet, 106- to 242-square-foot balcony) that sleep a larger number of people and Sunset Verandas (194 to 228 square feet, 53- to 89-square-foot balcony) that offer aft views of the ship's wake.

The vessels also offer AquaClass and Concierge Class digs, which are essentially basic balcony accommodations with some extras. The former focuses on wellness and comes with free fitness classes, unlimited access to the onboard spa's thermal suite, dining at exclusive health-focused restaurant Blu, a healthier room service menu, daily bottled water, upgraded toiletries, discounts on spa packages and yoga mats for in-cabin use. The latter entitles cruisers to amenities like dedicated concierge services, as well as an exclusive luncheon, daily in-room canapes and sparkling wine on request.

Basic amenities are included, but what really sets these accommodations apart is that they provide cruisers with private access to ocean air – no need to venture to a public deck.

Infinite Veranda

celebrity cruises cabins eclipse

As with standard balcony cabins, Infinite Verandas – which are only found on ships in the line's Edge Class – come with the basic amenities listed above, but they also grant a bit more interior space (202 square feet) in lieu of the usual walk-out terrace.

They earn their own category here because, as those who book the accommodations will find, instead of a traditional balcony, they have a window that can be raised and lowered with the push of a button. A set of see-through folding doors allows the area near the window to be cordoned off in order to make it feel like a more traditional balcony.

RELATED: 6 reasons to stay in a balcony cabin

Celebrity's three newest vessels each have several Infinite Veranda solo cabins for cruisers traveling by themselves. Celebrity Edge has 16, and Celebrity Apex offers 24, while Celebrity Beyond boasts 32. They offer 131 to 184 square feet of space with 42- to 45-square-foot interior balcony areas.

Suites on Celebrity ships

There are 10 types of suites on Celebrity's ships, four of which – Sky Suites, Celebrity Suites, Royal Suites and Penthouse Suites – appear on every single ship in the fleet. Two more – Edge Villas and Iconic Suites – are found only on Edge-class vessels. Another two, Signature Suites and Reflection Suites, are exclusive to Celebrity Reflection, and the remaining Sunset Suites and AquaClass Suites are new to the fleet with the debut of Celebrity Beyond.

Passengers booked in any of the suites in this category have access to the exclusive suites-only lounge and pool deck, known as The Retreat, as well as dining in suite-access-only restaurant Luminae.

RELATED: 7 reasons to splurge on a cruise ship suite

Cruisers in these accommodations also receive a slew of perks, including higher-level Wi-Fi and drink packages (upgraded from the free ones that come with all fares); onboard credit; prepaid gratuities; free in-room bottles of alcohol; complimentary laundry, shoeshine, butler and concierge services; and priority embarkation and tendering, among other draws.

An explanation of each type of suite can be found below.

celebrity cruises cabins eclipse

These are the smallest suites in the fleet, ranging from 251 to 362 square feet with balconies that range from 57 to 163 square feet. They're arranged in a studio configuration, similar to what you'd find in non-suite cruise-ship accommodations. They're the least expensive option for those who crave access to suite-level amenities.

Celebrity Suites

celebrity cruises cabins eclipse

For cruisers wanting the step up their square footage or storage space, a Celebrity Suite will do the trick. Expect 394 to 498 square feet, plus a balcony between 51 and 105 square feet, complete with separate living and bedroom spaces, a sizeable bathroom (with a bathtub/shower combo) and tons of drawers and cabinets to help chronic overpackers stow their belongings.

Royal Suites

celebrity cruises cabins eclipse

For an even bigger upgrade, Royal Suites come in at between 538 and 687 square feet with verandas measuring 72 to 195 square feet. Each has ample storage, separate lounging and sleeping quarters, and a generously sized bathroom with a shower and separate soaking tub that's perfect for relaxing after a day in port.

Penthouse Suites

celebrity cruises cabins eclipse

Penthouse suites are the largest accommodations found fleetwide, ranging from 1,291 to 1,432 square feet with 197- to 1,098-square-foot verandas that are large enough for their own private hot tubs. The two-bed, two-bath setup with a separate sitting area and dining table that seats eight, makes these cabins great for entertaining or sharing with travel companions.

Edge Villas

celebrity cruises cabins eclipse

These two-deck suites offer an upstairs-and-downstairs setup with one bedroom, two bathrooms, and a living room in 739 square feet of space. There's also a 211-square-foot balcony. These rooms are exclusive to the line's Edge Class of ships, and they boast access to a private plunge pool.

Iconic Suites

celebrity cruises cabins eclipse

Iconic Suites -- which are in high demand, due to their limited numbers and plethora of extras -- are the largest on Edge-class vessels, offering 1,892 square feet, a nearly 689-square-foot balcony (larger than most staterooms onboard, complete with a private hot tub and daybed), a bathroom with dual sinks and a whirlpool tub, and an unparalleled forward-facing view from directly above the bridge.

Signature Suites

celebrity cruises cabins eclipse

While Signature Suite accommodations are on the smaller side, at 441 square feet, the 118-square-foot balcony still manages to include an outdoor tub with a rain shower so you can soak while taking in the views as you sail. They also include high ceilings, a shower/tub combo, and separate living and sleeping areas.

Reflection Suites

celebrity cruises cabins eclipse

At nearly four times the size of Signature Suites, Reflection Suites come equipped with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a cantilevered glass shower that hangs out over the ocean for simply amazing views. All of this fits neatly into 1,636 square feet of space, plus a 194-square-foot balcony. Dual sinks, a separate soaking tub with a rain shower, high ceilings, a walk-in closet, and a prime corner location round out the opulent offerings. These suites are only slightly smaller than Iconic Suites, but their verandas are far tinier.

Sunset Suites

celebrity cruises cabins eclipse

Similar to the wake-view concept behind the line's Sunset Veranda staterooms, Sunset Suites provide an elevated experience with the same stunning vistas at each ship's aft. Some of these suites are on the smaller side, comprising 296 to 575 square feet, plus a 53- to 242-square-foot balcony, but they do incorporate separate living and sleeping areas, making them feel more like true suites.

AquaClass Sky Suites

celebrity cruises cabins eclipse

These rooms combine the space and enhanced extras of a Sky Suite (including access to The Retreat and Luminae) with the perks of an AquaClass cabin – fitness classes, thermal suite access, dining at Blu, daily bottled water, discounts on spa packages and yoga mats for in-cabin use – to bring passengers a more health-centric suite experience in 319 square feet with a 79-square-foot veranda.

Cabins on Celebrity's Galapagos-class ships

Because Celebrity's expedition vessels are much smaller, they warrant their own section. What follows is a breakdown of the cabin types – most of which are suites – offered on each ship.

Note that Celebrity Flora, Celebrity Xpedition and Celebrity Xploration have neither The Retreat nor Luminae, so suite passengers do not have access to those venues. Amenities also may vary from those offered on the fleet's non-expedition ships.

Celebrity Flora

celebrity cruises cabins eclipse

The largest of Celebrity's expedition vessels, Celebrity Flora houses 50 cabins with a double-occupancy capacity for 100 passengers. All staterooms are classified as suites, with a mix of several types of Sky Suites, including some with Infinite Verandas (330 to 365 square feet, 65- to 86-square-foot balcony); Royal Suites (559 square feet, 129-square-foot balcony); and Penthouse Suites (1,288 square feet, 321-square-foot balcony).

Celebrity Xpedition

celebrity cruises cabins eclipse

Significantly smaller is Celebrity Xpedition, which can carry 48 passengers across 24 cabins at capacity. Availability includes 160-square-foot oceanview accommodations; 175-square-foot Junior Suites with 45-square-foot verandas; and a combination of suites – Xpedition Suites, Royal Suites and Penthouse Suites – that run the gamut from 205 to 460 square feet with balconies ranging from 50 to 235 square feet. Given that Penthouse Suites on the line's other ships span 1,291 to 1,432 square feet with 197- to 1,098-square-foot verandas, it's easy to see that suite sizes decrease as ship sizes decrease.

Celebrity Xploration

celebrity cruises cabins eclipse

The tiniest and most no-frills option on Celebrity's roster is Celebrity Xploration, which carries just 16 people in eight cabins at its maximum. Oddly, all staterooms are labeled as Junior Suites, but while half of them have balconies (180 square feet with 245-square-foot verandas), the other half (190 square feet) don't. It's also interesting to note that, in the ones that do have them, the balconies boast significantly more space than the interior living area does.

Bottom line

Celebrity's selection of basic cabins is fairly standard. However, when it comes to suites, passengers have a decent number of choices, and even the smallest and least expensive options offer coveted amenities and access to dedicated spaces.

Although there are suite types that span the entire fleet, the line likes to create experiences that are exclusive to some of its newest classes and ships.

Celebrity is one of the best big-ship cruise brands when it comes to everything from service and extras to in-cabin storage space, decor and even furniture layout. Overall, the line offers an upscale ambiance with a lot of value for your money, starting with inside cabins and running right up through accommodations at the suite level.

The Allure of Celebrity Eclipse: Why Cabin Choice Matters

Ah, the Celebrity Eclipse – it’s not just a ship, it’s an experience. Imagine a floating paradise, teeming with world-class dining, captivating entertainment, and endless vistas of the cerulean sea.

But as with any Eden, there are nuances, little details that make your stay either heavenly or a touch less so. Let’s dive deep and understand why, amidst all this luxury, your cabin choice stands out as a crucial decision.

The Celebrity Eclipse Experience: Setting Expectations

The Eclipse is part of Celebrity’s renowned Solstice class, known for its modern luxury, environmental mindfulness, and awe-inspiring architectural finesse.

With 19 decks and a capacity to host nearly 3,000 guests, space is designed to cater to myriad tastes and preferences.

From the Lawn Club with real grass to the glass-blowing shows, it’s an eclectic blend of sea and sophistication.

Types of Cabins: Your Floating Abode

Each cabin, regardless of its category, is a cocoon of comfort. However, they are tailored for different cruising styles:

  • Inside Cabins: Ideal for the budget traveler, these offer all the basics without a window to the world outside.
  • Oceanview Cabins: A step up, these rooms come with a window, but not all views are created equal.
  • Balcony Cabins: Ah, the allure of a private balcony! But remember, size and view can vary.
  • Suites: The epitome of luxury, but even among suites, location matters.

Deciphering the Deck Plan Layout

Before you shout “All aboard!”, spend some time with the ship’s deck plans. While it might seem like you’re deciphering a treasure map, understanding this layout is essential.

Notice where the elevators, stairways, and amenities are. Look for areas that seem unusually shaped or those that lack cabin numbers – these might be service or crew areas.

Choosing a cabin isn’t just about whether you want to be rocked to sleep by the ship’s gentle sway or if you want a room with a view.

It’s about immersing yourself in the Celebrity Eclipse’s offerings without any unwelcome surprises. Let’s uncover what you might want to watch out for in our next section. Ready to set sail into the nitty-gritty? 🌌🛳️

Common Cabin Concerns: What to Watch Out For

Navigating the world of cruise cabins can feel like treading uncharted waters. Every traveler has heard stories – both enchanting tales of serene sea views and the occasional harrowing account of a less-than-perfect room.

So, what are the most frequent pitfalls, and how can you steer clear of them on the Celebrity Eclipse? Let’s delve into the deep end.

Proximity to Public Areas and Potential Noise

Location, location, location. It’s not just a mantra for real estate agents, but also for cruise-goers.

Cabins adjacent to busy public areas, like theaters or dining venues, might mean you’re inadvertently on the guest list for every show or party. The echoing laughter, music, and clatter could become unwanted companions.

Lower Deck Concerns: The Engine Room’s Lullaby

The romance of being close to the water is undeniable. However, the lower decks, especially those closer to the engine room, can hum you a lullaby you didn’t ask for. The consistent hum or vibration might be soothing for some but bothersome for others.

Obstructed Views: The Peek-a-Boo Windows

It’s always a bummer when you’re looking forward to a breathtaking ocean view, only to be greeted by a lifeboat. Some cabins, despite being billed as oceanview or even balcony categories, might offer only a sliver of the sea, thanks to structures or equipment blocking the way.

The Conundrum of Connecting Cabins: The Neighborly Chit-Chat

Traveling with a big group? Connecting cabins sound ideal. However, if you’re not using that connecting door, be aware that it might not offer the same soundproofing as a standard wall. The potential for eavesdropping on your neighbors (or vice versa) is higher.

Decoding Deck Plans: Potential Problem Areas

If you’ve ever gazed at a cruise ship’s deck plan and felt a tad overwhelmed, trust us, you’re not sailing that ship alone. Think of it as a grand mansion with countless rooms, hallways, and secret nooks.

With the Celebrity Eclipse, there’s an abundance of choices, each with its own charm and quirks. Let’s break it down deck by deck, spotlighting those areas you might prefer to give a wide berth.

The Fore and Aft Debate

  • Fore (Front): These cabins can offer some phenomenal views, especially if you’re on an upper deck. However, they can also feel the ship’s movement more, especially if seas are rough.
  • Aft (Rear): Renowned for mesmerizing wake views, these cabins might come with a side of engine vibration or noise, especially on the lower decks.

Exploring the Middle Ground: Mid-Ship Magic

Cruisers often consider mid-ship cabins the gold standard, especially for those prone to seasickness. They offer balance – less ship motion and often quieter surroundings. But, ensure they aren’t close to elevators or main thoroughfares to avoid foot traffic.

Cabins to Approach with Caution

  • Near Elevators and Stairways: Convenience meets potential noise. The ding of elevators or chatter from passengers could interrupt your peace.
  • Below or Above Active Areas: A cabin underneath a pool deck might mean the early morning shuffle of sun loungers becomes your wake-up call. Similarly, being above or below a theater might include unsolicited soundtracks to your evening.
  • Inward-Facing Balconies: Overlooking the central promenade or atrium can offer an immersive experience but at the potential cost of privacy and noise.
  • Non-Standard Sizes: Some cabins, due to the ship’s design, might be slightly larger or smaller than the category standard. This could be a boon or a bane depending on personal preference.

Deciphering the Odd Ones Out

The deck plan might occasionally throw you a curveball – an oddly shaped cabin or one that lacks clear specifications. These could be adjoining, modified for accessibility, or have other unique features. A quick chat with Celebrity Cruises or your travel agent can clear up any mysteries.

Best Rooms Aboard the Celebrity Eclipse

In the vast expanse of the Celebrity Eclipse, amidst the many corridors and cabins, there are those select rooms that have managed to capture the hearts and high praises of many a seasoned traveler.

These rooms have become legendary for their unique features, unparalleled views, or sheer comfort. Here’s our handpicked list of some of the best rooms, based on expert insights and cruiser reviews.

The Suite Life: Luxury at Its Best

  • Penthouse Suites: With wrap-around balconies offering 270-degree views and sprawling interiors, the Penthouse Suites are the epitome of luxury on the seas.
  • Royal Suites: Boasting expansive balconies and even a whirlpool tub, these suites spell opulence.

A Balcony with a View: Unbeatable Vistas

  • Sunset Veranda Staterooms: Located at the aft of the ship, these rooms offer mesmerizing views of the ship’s wake and breathtaking sunsets.
  • Hump Cabins: These uniquely positioned balcony cabins on the ship’s “hump” (the wider mid-ship section) provide wider-than-average balconies and enhanced views.

Innovative Spaces: The Quirks That Work

  • Single Staterooms: Designed for solo travelers, these rooms are a rare find on cruise ships. On the Eclipse, they offer a cozy space without the typical single traveler surcharge.
  • AquaClass Staterooms : Tailored for wellness enthusiasts, these rooms offer spa-themed amenities and priority access to the specialty restaurant, Blu.

Quiet Corners: Tranquil Retreats Away from the Hustle

  • Forward-Facing Oceanview Cabins: While they might experience more motion, these cabins provide an undisturbed panoramic view of the ocean ahead.
  • Deck 6 Mid-Ship Balconies: Situated away from most high-traffic areas and not directly below or above any major entertainment venues, these cabins offer a blend of convenience and tranquility.

The Unsung Heroes: Often Overlooked, Always Appreciated

  • Deck 3 Oceanview Cabins: While lower and often overlooked, these cabins have larger-than-average windows, making them a hidden gem.
  • Certain Connecting Cabins: While many shy away from connecting rooms due to potential noise, there are a few where cruisers report minimal sound transfer, offering flexibility without the downside.

Reviews and Recommendations: Real Traveler Insights

There’s nothing quite like hearing it straight from the horse’s mouth—or in this case, from the seasoned cruiser’s lips. While technical deck plans and advice are invaluable, sometimes, real traveler experiences provide the nuanced understanding that can make or break your trip. Let’s dive into the collective wisdom of fellow Celebrity Eclipse adventurers and see what they have to say.

The Good, the Bad, and the Unexpected

It’s the age of the internet, and people aren’t shy about sharing their experiences—both the spectacular sunrises and the sleepless nights.

  • Serene Sanctuaries: Many travelers rave about those special cabins that seem to hit the sweet spot. Whether it’s the gentle rocking, the undisturbed quiet, or the unparalleled view, some rooms just seem to have that magic touch.
  • A Few Bumps in the Night: Then there are those tales of cabins right beneath the gym, where early risers and their treadmill sessions provide an unexpected wake-up call. Or rooms that, while offering a great view, also come with the sound of live entertainment until the wee hours.
  • Hidden Gems: Every ship, the Eclipse included, has its lesser-known treasures. Maybe it’s a room that’s slightly larger due to its position or a cabin that, though classified as ‘obstructed view,’ offers an almost perfect panorama.

Patterns in the Tales: Spotting Consistencies

While individual experiences can vary, when multiple cruisers mention the same perk or pitfall about a particular cabin or deck, it’s worth taking note. A consistent chorus of “avoid this cabin” or “this was the best room ever” provides a roadmap for potential bookings.

Balancing Biases: Personal Preferences Play a Part

It’s important to remember: one person’s noise nuisance is another’s ambient background. While some cruisers might balk at the thought of being near a busy area, others might relish being in the heart of the action. Filter reviews through the lens of your own preferences.

Tips for Securing the Perfect Celebrity Eclipse Stateroom

Sailing the serene seas aboard the Celebrity Eclipse is an experience in itself, but ensuring you have the best possible room can elevate your voyage from memorable to downright magical. From booking hacks to insider insights, let’s unlock the secrets to securing that dream stateroom.

1. Early Bird Gets the Best Room

  • Plan Ahead: Popular cabins, especially those unique ones we highlighted, get booked quickly. If you have specific dates and a particular room in mind, it’s best to book as early as possible.

2. Flexibility is Your Friend

  • Alternate Dates: If your dream cabin is taken, consider slightly adjusting your travel dates. A week earlier or later could open up more options.
  • Room Category Flex: Sometimes, the difference in amenities between adjacent room categories is minimal, but the price or availability can vary substantially. Be open to exploring.

3. Use Deck Plans as Your Compass

  • Virtual Tours: Celebrity Cruises often provides virtual tours or detailed photos of specific stateroom categories. Familiarize yourself with layouts and views before deciding.
  • Cross-Reference with Reviews: Once you have a room in mind, cross-check its number with online reviews. Sometimes, a particular room might have quirks not mentioned in official descriptions.

4. Engage with Experts

  • Travel Agents: Experienced travel agents, especially those specializing in cruises, have a wealth of knowledge and might even know of promotions or deals not advertised widely.
  • Cruise Forums: Communities like Cruise Critic have seasoned cruisers who share tips, tricks, and firsthand experiences. Tapping into their collective wisdom can be invaluable.

5. Consider the Duration and Itinerary

  • Short vs. Long Voyages: For shorter trips, you might be more willing to compromise on the cabin since you’ll likely be out and about most of the time. But for longer voyages, comfort becomes paramount.
  • Port-Intensive Itineraries: If your cruise has multiple stops, you’ll likely be off the ship a lot. This might influence whether you prioritize room quality or location.

6. Think Beyond the Room

  • Promotions & Packages: Sometimes, upgrading your stateroom can come with added perks like onboard credits, free wifi, or drink packages. Factor these in when considering room costs.

7. Keep an Eye Out for Upgrades

  • Monitor Availability: Even after booking, periodically check room availability. If you notice better rooms opening up, you might be able to upgrade.
  • Last-Minute Upgrade Offers: As the sailing date approaches, unsold premium cabins might be offered at a discount. If you’re open to shifting rooms, this could be a golden opportunity.

FAQ: Celebrity Eclipse Cabins to Avoid

When it comes to picking the perfect stateroom on the Celebrity Eclipse, a little knowledge can go a long way. We’ve gathered some of the most frequently asked questions to help you avoid potential cabin pitfalls and make an informed decision.

Which cabins on the Celebrity Eclipse tend to be noisier?

Cabins situated directly below or above high-traffic areas, like the pool deck, restaurants, or entertainment venues, might experience noise transfer. Additionally, rooms near crew access points or service areas may have more foot traffic.

Are there any obstructed view cabins I should be wary of?

Some staterooms, particularly those on Deck 6 and 7 forward, might have lifeboats or equipment partially blocking the view. It’s always a good idea to consult the ship’s deck plan and look for potential obstructions.

I’m sensitive to motion sickness. Which cabins should I avoid?

Cabins located at the very front (forward) or rear (aft) of the ship tend to experience more motion. For travelers sensitive to seasickness, mid-ship cabins, especially those on lower decks, might be more stable.

Are there any particularly small cabins on the Celebrity Eclipse?

While most cabins are fairly standardized in size within their respective categories, some might feel a bit snug due to their layout or positioning. Check reviews or consult a travel agent for specific room recommendations.

I’ve heard that some balconies are less private than others. Which should I avoid for maximum privacy?

Some cabins, especially those on the hump or curve of the ship, might have angled balconies that offer less privacy. If seclusion is a priority, consider opting for cabins with balconies that aren’t adjacent to public deck areas or overlook other balconies.

Are there cabins that are particularly far from elevators or stairs?

The Celebrity Eclipse is a large ship, and some cabins, especially those located mid-ship on longer corridors, can be a bit of a walk from the nearest elevator or staircase. If mobility is a concern, prioritize rooms closer to these access points.

Do all inside cabins lack natural light?

Yes, inside cabins do not have windows to the outside, so they won’t have natural sunlight. However, the lighting and décor are designed to make the space feel open and comfortable.

I’ve heard some cabins can have unexpected traffic due to ship design. Which ones are they?

Some cabins near major venues or those en-route to popular ship attractions might experience more foot traffic. It’s always smart to reference the deck plan and consider what’s above, below, and beside your potential cabin.

Are the single staterooms only suitable for solo travelers?

The single staterooms are designed with solo travelers in mind, being cozier and tailored for individual comfort. While they can accommodate only one person, they offer a great value without the single supplement typically charged.

Do any cabins have restricted access or amenities?

Some cabin categories, like AquaClass or Concierge Class, come with exclusive perks and may offer access to specific lounges or dining venues. Ensure you’re aware of any special benefits (or restrictions) tied to your cabin class.

Eclipse connecting cabins

Cool Cruiser

We hope to book a balcony cabin on the Eclipse but looking at the deck plans - the cabin diagram shows that it is a Connecting Cabin. Are these cabins connected from the inside or the outside? I'm hoping it is the latter.

The Eclipse connecting cabins have the outside vestibule connecting configuration. The Reflection is the only S Class ship that has the interior connecting doorway.

The outside. At the entrance an additional external door can create a lobby if I recall. You can also have the balcony opened up if you want. There is no internal door in the wall between the cabins, personally never had an issue of extra noise or anything if interconnecting.

If you do a search there is a thread called 'The Grand Tour' which has quite a few photos.

Here is one showing the connection in the corridor.

We had one just like that in November 2016. No real extra noise, but did open the door one morning as neighbour was coming in with coffee. Put it this way, he headed back for more.

Thanks for your replies - that is what I was hoping for. The only time we had a connecting cabin (internal) the couple adjoining our cabin were constantly having loud arguments late into the night - it was probably a one off situation but I don't want to risk it.

Happy to book a connecting cabin with external doors.

Appreciate your help in putting my mind at rest

Many eclipse visitors to northern New England pulled an all-nighter trying to leave

A trip that should have taken Associated Press reporter Nick Perry two hours instead took 12 as he and thousands of other eclipse watchers tried to make their way home Monday. (AP video: Nick Perry)

FRANCONIA, N.H. (AP) — Thousands of visitors to northern New England communities in the path of the total solar eclipse were told to pack their patience for the trip. In some areas, they needed it for up to 12 hours after the event started, inching their way back home on packed interstates and secondary roads.

In New Hampshire, travelers were stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic in the northern part of the state through at least 2 a.m. Tuesday, clogging up southbound Interstate 93. Southbound traffic on Interstate 89 also was heavy Monday evening. Southbound traffic was backed up in parts of Maine for several hours.

New England had clear skies and mild weather Monday, making for ideal viewing conditions for totality. In New Hampshire, people flocked to places such as Lancaster, Stewartstown, Colebrook and Pittsburg, near the Canada border.

But the roads were swarmed on the trip back, and traffic came to a standstill in some areas.

“People were just pulling over on the side of the road going to the bathroom, people were pulling over to shut their cars off, sleeping in their cars all over (U.S.) Route 3,” said Scott Lacourse, who left his vacation home in Pittsburg with his wife and their two dogs at 6:30 p.m. They got home to Londonderry, New Hampshire, nine hours later. That’s nearly three times longer than usual.

“Every rest area, any pull-off, anything, was full,” Lacourse said, adding that there also was no cell service.

Some people who had paper maps with them navigated their way through back roads. Others were running out of gas, and some broke down. Some people opted for the dangerous maneuver of driving across a median ditch and turning back onto northbound lanes. At least one car got stuck in the ditch. Some people who tried to stop for fast food along the way were met by a long line and the realization that the staff had stopped taking orders.

Lacourse and his wife, Sirena Holobinko Bogdahn, thought that if they left later in the day traffic would be cleared, but that wasn’t the case.

In spite of that, “it was well worth it,” she said of the eclipse viewing. “It was so amazing.”

John Martin, who was visiting from Massachusetts, described it as a “creep and a crawl” near Franconia, where Route 3 feeds into the Franconia Notch Parkway, a one-lane mountain pass in each direction, before expanding into the multilane interstate.

“You’re looking at your GPS trying to get off of 93 to find something a little quicker, and everybody else was thinking the same thing,” he told WMUR-TV.

New Hampshire state officials had warned travelers that the return could be slow going and encouraged people to stay in the area, which usually sees its most tourists during the summer and the fall foliage season, for a while.

“To our friends visiting from out of state, remember: there’s no sales tax in NH, so feel free to stay a bit longer!” Gov. Chris Sununu had said Friday.

Traffic also slowed to a crawl in other states.

In Maine, the traffic on Route 4 south from Rangeley to Farmington was heavy and slow several hours after the eclipse but never completely stopped, averaging 8 to 15 mph for much of the 40-mile drive along the two-lane rural road that threads mountains and hills.

In Paducah, Kentucky, which was in the path of totality, along with communities to the west in Illinois, thousands of people crossed the Ohio River after watching the eclipse. Post-eclipse traffic also moved very slowly in places such as southbound Interstate 65 in southern Indiana, and along southbound Interstate 81 in New York and Pennsylvania.

McCormack reported from Concord, New Hampshire. Associated Press journalist Robert Bukaty in Portland, Maine, contributed to this report.
