How do I arrange a tour of the United States Capitol Building?

Plan your visit in advance! A public tour of the U.S. Capitol is free and open to anyone who makes an advanced reservation, although there are some same-day tickets available by standing in line at the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center (note that lines will be long during spring and summer).  We recommend reserving a  reserving a tour date and time .

All tours begin and end at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center, open Monday-Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (except Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day and Inauguration Day).  Tours typically take about 90 minutes and are  fully accessible for people with disabilities.

What will I see on a Capitol tour?

Guided tours begin with a 13-minute intro film, followed stops in the Capitol Rotunda, where guides point out the center point of the District of Columbia, as well as demonstrate the unique acoustical effect where a speaker several yards away can be heard more clearly than a speaker close to the listener. The Capitol Dome is encircled by murals, and the fresco on the eye of the ceiling is called The Apotheosis of Washington showing President Washington rising to the heavens in glory with Liberty and Victory/Fame beside him. Below, on the walls of the Rotunda, are large paintings depicting significant events in American history: The Signing of the Declaration of Independence, The Baptism of Pocohontas, The Embarkation of the Pilgrims, The Landing of Columbus and General George Washington Resigning His Commission. Other stops on the 45-minute walking tour include the Crypt, National Statuary Hall and connecting corridors of the U.S. Capitol, where you’ll see statues representing every state.

Can I see Congress in session?

The guided tour doesn't include the Senate and House galleries. However, visitors can obtain free passes through their congressmen to view both chambers when Congress is in session. International visitors can ask about gallery passes at the House and Senate Appointment Desks on the upper level of the Capitol Visitor Center. When Congress is not in session, the galleries are open to the public Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. However, viewing hours are subject to change and are not always the same for the House and Senate galleries. You can check the schedules with your Congressional office when requesting gallery passes. Read more information about  watching Congress in session  and viewing the House and Senate galleries.

Arguably the most magnificent building in Washington, the U.S. Capitol is where visitors go to witness politics in action. Inside, members of both houses of Congress debate and create national policy and law, while visitors explore the building's north and south wings and circular centerpiece: the Rotunda. This iconic hall houses paintings, frescoes and sculptures depicting famous scenes from American history, not to mention an iconic cast-iron dome added to the structure in 1868.

Touring the Capitol is free of charge, but you'll need to make your reservation well in advance to ensure you get a tour slot (you cannot see the Capitol without booking a tour). The U.S. Capitol Visitor Center welcomes visitors Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (with the exception of Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Inauguration Day). The tour does not include the Senate and House of Representatives galleries. Though some travelers express mixed reviews on whether the U.S. Capitol warrants the time and effort spent (both making reservations and going on the actual tour), most agree the site is well worth a visit.

If you're not that stoked about exploring the building's innards, consider taking a stroll outside of the building. It's located on the National Mall nearby the U.S. Botanic Garden and the National Air and Space Museum . The easiest way to reach the Capitol is via the Metro to the Capitol South or Federal Center SW stops (both on the Blue, Silver and Orange lines) or the Union Station stop (on the Red Line). Additionally, there are bike racks outside the Capital Visitor Center and Capital Bikeshare stations nearby. For more information, check out the official U.S. Capitol Visitor Center website .

After you've admired the Capitol, walk along East Capitol Street to the Library of Congress. Comprising three buildings and housing more than 164 million books, manuscripts, sound recordings, pieces of sheet music, maps and photographs, the Library of Congress is the world's largest library, according to Guinness World Records. The most notable building in the trio is the Thomas Jefferson Building, which was completed built in 1897. Here, you'll find an eclectic array of interesting items, such as the Gutenberg Bible, as well as a rotating series of events and exhibitions. You should also take a stroll through the Thomas Jefferson Building's Main Reading Room, which features a grand domed ceiling, mahogany desks and diligent researchers pouring over catalogs and periodic volumes. Visitors typically find the place mightily impressive.

The James Madison Memorial Building and the John Adams Building are mainly used for scholarly research, but the Thomas Jefferson Building welcomes visitors Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (with extended hours until 8 p.m. on Thursdays). There are no entrance fees for this attraction, but timed-entry tickets must be reserved in advance. Events and exhibitions held at the Library of Congress are also complimentary for visitors. To find out more about the Library of Congress, visit the property's website .

#1 The Tidal Basin

If you've never been to Washington, D.C. before, plan to spend some time along the Tidal Basin, an approximately 107-acre pond encircled by a 2.1-mile loop trail. Constructed to use the strong tides of the Potomac River to clear silt from the Washington Channel and to maintain steady water levels in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pools , it now also serves as the backdrop to some of D.C.'s best-loved sites. Every spring, the Tidal Basin bursts with color as cherry blossom trees (gifted to the city from Tokyo ) bloom into cotton candy-colored tufts, and they attract hordes of visitors. The cherry blossoms typically hit peak bloom (defined as when 70% of the cherry blossoms are open) in March or April. The National Park Service website makes "bloom watch" updates on its website , where you can check the progress of the trees and see when peak bloom is expected for the year. You can follow the path that leads around the basin, but recent visitors recommended testing the waters in a paddleboat. Paddleboats are available to rent from spring until fall for $28 to $40 per hour (depending on the day) for a four-passenger boat. You can pick up a paddle boat every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from the boat dock near Maine Avenue.

Even if you don't make it to town for the cherry blossoms, you won't want to miss the three major memorials that can be found along the Tidal Basin's shores: the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial and the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial . A memorial to Virginia Declaration of Rights author George Mason, also stands nearby.

Taylor Swift is about to go back on tour: Here's what to expect on the Eras Tour in Paris

can you tour the capitol now

After a two-month break, Taylor Swift is revitalizing her titanic Eras Tour in Paris, and fans believe there are changes coming to the show.

If you are wondering where she's playing, if there will be changes and how to score tickets, here's everything we know.

And if you're new to the Eras Tour party, you can get caught up on the first 83 shows here .

When does the Eras Tour start again?

Swift kicks off the European leg of her tour on Thursday, May 9, in Paris. She will perform Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, as well, in the City of Light.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

What are Taylor Swift's tour dates in Europe?

There are 69 shows left in the Eras Tour: 51 in Europe, nine in America and nine in Canada.

The European leg stretches from May all the way through a five-night stand at Wembley Stadium in London in mid-August.

See a complete list of international dates here .

After she wraps up in Europe, Swift will stop in Miami, New Orleans and Indianapolis before wrapping up in Canada.

See the remaining U.S. dates here .

What is the Eras Tour set list?

The Eras Tour has featured a massive 45-song set list you can check out here . But speculation is swirling it won't look the same when Swift takes the stage in Paris.

Will Taylor Swift add 'The Tortured Poets Department' to her set list?

The tortured poet has been on hiatus keeping her stamina up by releasing a double album of 31 tracks. The 2-hours-and-2-minutes project broke a number of Billboard records as the superstar did zero press to promote it. Fans flocked to stores and streaming services to listen to all the songs from "Fortnight" to "The Manuscript."

Although the singer has not confirmed whether her 11th era album will be added to her Eras Tour set list, she did post a YouTube shorts video with two scenes that sent Easter egg decoders into a frenzy. In one of the shots, the singer is next to a railing where a "TTPD" logo appears to be (at 0:11). In the succeeding shot, her back-up dancers perform holding canes and wearing top hats, something they have not worn previously.

Swift's dancers and bandmates posted to their Instagram stories as they left for France last week. The singer did not appear at two media events with her boyfriend Travis Kelce: the Kentucky Derby and a Formula 1 race in Miami , Florida. Patrick Mahomes, Kelce's friend and Kansas City's quarterback, attended the car racing spectacular with his wife, Brittany.

Can I still get Eras Tour tickets?

Swift's show is completely sold out in Europe and North America. There are resale sites with tickets, but be wary of scams. The best way to avoid getting swindled is continuously checking links on Swift's website . There are some for resale on the sites verified by her camp.

Singapore was a hotbed for fans who traveled thousands of miles only to get turned away at the venue. In Tokyo and Australia, last-minute ticket drops happened a few days — without announcement — ahead of the shows.

Miami, New Orleans and Indianapolis — the three U.S. cities Swift is visiting in the fall — have some of the heftiest price tags with Canada closely behind. In may be cheaper to travel to Warsaw, Poland, or Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Here's a list of cities with the cheapest resale tickets, according to travel website  Islands.com .

10. Vienna, Austria — total average cost: $1,089, safety score: 69.72

9. Cardiff, U.K. — total average cost: $1,061, safety score: 61.83

8. Lyon, France — total average cost: $1,047, safety score: 44.3

7. Lisbon, Portugal — total average cost: $1,028, safety score: 70.15

6. Munich, Germany — total average cost: $1,000, safety score: 78.88

5. Paris, France — total average cost: $971, safety score: 41.83

4. Stockholm, Sweden — total average cost: $935, safety score: 53.86

3. Hamburg, Germany — total average cost: $903, safety score: 57.51

2. Gelsenkirchen, Germany — total average cost: $749, safety score: 51.33

1. Warsaw, Poland — total average cost: $712, safety score: 72.98

Who are the opening acts?

Paramore launched the Eras Tour in Glendale, Arizona, in March 2023, so it's fitting the American rock band is opening the tour's second year. The act will open for Swift for 51 shows across Europe . The band was dubbed the 2024 Record Store Day global ambassador and surprised fans in Nashville the weekend following the release of "The Tortured Poets Department."

When the tour comes back to North America in October , Swift's opening act will be Gracie Abrams.

Where can I watch if I don't have tickets?

The Eras Tour is one of the first tours that has been followed, globally, by thousands of fans on digital platforms. Fans dedicate part of their concert experience to livestreaming as Swift performs. A few Swifties have learned how to host their own shows over social media including Tess Bohne , known as the livestream queen. Bohne goes live for (almost) every show pulling streams from Instagram and TikTok. When a livestream goes down, she fills the time with banter.

On YouTube, user @TaylorSwiftHockeyBro also livestreams the three-hour show, and on Twitch, @folkleric , is a host fans follow.

There is also an app, Swift Alert , that notifies fans who only want to watch certain eras like the acoustic, surprise set. The app sends out push alerts if there are any major announcements.

What secret songs are left?

For the past 83 shows, Swift has played an acoustic set she customizes at each stop with a guitar and piano performance. In 2024, the Eras Tour star added mashups of her songs for each stop. Here are the songs she has yet to perform:

  • "Taylor Swift" (debut album): "Mary's Song" and "A Perfectly Good Heart"
  • "Fearless": "The Way I Loved You," "Change," "Superstar," "We Were Happy," "That's When," "Don't You" and "Bye Bye Baby"
  • "Red": "Girl At Home," "Ronan," "Forever Winter" and "Run"
  • "1989": "Sweeter Than Fiction"
  • "Reputation": "I Did Something Bad"
  • "Lover": "London Boy," "Soon You'll Get Better" and "It's Nice to Have a Friend"
  • "Folklore": "Hoax"
  • "Evermore": "Happiness" and "Closure"
  • "Midnights": "Paris" and "Glitch"
  • "The Tortured Poets Department": all 31 tracks

Will Taylor Swift perform in 2025?

There have been many rumors that Swift will continue her show in 2025, but they are only rumors. Nothing has been announced for next year, and as of now, the tour will end in Vancouver, British Columbia, on Dec. 8.

Every outfit Taylor Swift wears on the Eras Tour, ranked

  • Taylor Swift recently kicked off the European leg of The Eras Tour .
  • She has worn about 60 different outfits onstage, with unique styles for each album.
  • BI's music team ranked them from worst to best, with the original "Lover" bodysuit in the top spot.

Insider Today

The European leg of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour is underway, and the pop star came armed with a new slate of songs and designer outfits.

The Eras Tour is arranged as a retrospective of Swift's career, spanning nearly two decades and 11 studio albums . Swift does several outfit changes during a single concert, and each segment has a unique aesthetic to match the album in question.

We ranked every outfit Swift has worn onstage from worst to best.

60. The surprise song dress in yellow

can you tour the capitol now

Each night during the Eras Tour, Taylor Swift performs an acoustic set with two surprise songs .

The dress for this segment is designed for a quick change; Swift slips it over the "1989" outfit while still on stage. It makes sense for the dress to be plain. But it doesn't make sense for the fabric to be the same color as Big Bird.

Frankly, the yellow dress is ugly. It's way too yellow.

59. The surprise song dress in green

can you tour the capitol now

The green dress isn't ugly, but it's not especially stunning either.

58. The surprise song dress in pink

can you tour the capitol now

The pink dress still isn't anything to write home about, but generally speaking, Swift looks good in pink.

57. The surprise song dress in the other shade of pink

can you tour the capitol now

I do appreciate that Swift eschewed the butterfly sleeves and unnecessary ruffles for this updated variant, but this dress still looks like it came from Forever 21.

56. The surprise song dress in blue

can you tour the capitol now

Swift wore blue versions of several classic tour looks for the night she announced "1989 (Taylor's Version)."

Blue is the best color for a surprise song dress, purely because it reminds me of Sharpay Evans singing "Bop to the Top."

55. The surprise song dress in the other shade of blue

can you tour the capitol now

You know the drill by now. This one is OK, but not great. Mostly it just looks simpler and cheaper than we'd expect from a billionaire — but that's probably aligned with Swift's masterful PR strategy .

54. "1989" in pink and blue

can you tour the capitol now

Swift debuted a new collection of designer looks in Nanterre, France , the first stop on the tour's European leg.

The latest "1989" outfit by Roberto Cavalli is a sequined pink top and blue ombré skirt, much like the skater skirts from the album's original era . Unfortunately, this color combo feels juvenile, perhaps because it reminds me of gender reveal parties .

53. "1989" in purple and orange

can you tour the capitol now

During her second concert in France, Swift debuted another variation of this look in orange and purple (with mismatched gold and purple shoes). It's not much better than the first version.

True, Swift doesn't look like a cartoon chipmunk in this color combination, but she does somewhat resemble Dora the Explorer , or a Tide Pod .

52. "Folklore" in yellow

can you tour the capitol now

The tiered and embroidered " Folklore " outfits, custom-made by Alberta Ferretti , are almost always winners. The flowy style makes Swift look like a friendly witch, much like her recent collaborator Florence Welch , which is a compliment.

However, this one doesn't suit the era's aesthetic one bit. The mismatch is especially glaring during "My Tears Ricochet," which is intended to parallel a funeral procession .

This dress was likely designed to evoke the fusion of "Folklore" and "Evermore" into one segment, which came with Swift's newly altered setlist for the European leg. But still, as we previously established, yellow is not Swift's color. It doesn't work.

51. "Folklore" in pink

can you tour the capitol now

Swift unveiled a hot-pink rendition of the woodsy "Folklore" gown during her second show in France.

Much like my previous complaint, this is the wrong color for the sister albums segment of the show.

The songs that populate "Folklore" and "Evermore" are full of yearning, betrayal, regret, depression, and even murder . These are not the hot-girl party bops of "1989" or "Midnights," which call for brighter hues and more pizzazz.

And if you think I'm being too nitpicky, I'll kindly remind you that Swift has embraced each album's individual color theory, down to the official Eras Tour branding .

50. The "Speak Now" ballgown that's growing mushrooms

can you tour the capitol now

The flowers plopped all over this dress are flimsy and unpleasant-looking. I would be glad to never see it again.

49. The "Red" romper

can you tour the capitol now

Honestly, Swift's outfits never slay during the "Red" segment, but the ombre romper is the worst offender. It's not terrible, but it doesn't do anything for her.

48. The "All Too Well" jacket

can you tour the capitol now

Swift dons glittery, floor-grazing outerwear to perform " All Too Well (10 Minute Version) ," which helps make the "Red" segment a bit more sophisticated — though it doesn't match the somber vibe of the song. I much preferred the sleek look that Swift wore to perform the song on "Saturday Night Live."

47. The "22" shirt

can you tour the capitol now

There are five versions of this shirt, inspired by an outfit worn by Swift in the "22" music video: "A lot going on at the moment," "We are never getting back together like ever," "Who's Taylor Swift anyway? Ew," "This is not Taylor's Version," and, most recently, "I bet you think about me." The shirt is always paired with a black bowler hat.

The look doesn't exactly scream high fashion, but it gets extra points for the nostalgia factor. The hat is ugly, but it gets even more extra points for the cuteness factor, since Swift always gives it to a special fan in the crowd .

46. The "Fearless" dress in gold

can you tour the capitol now

This is a custom Roberto Cavalli dress , embellished with Swarovski crystals, but somehow it looks like a stringy array of ramen noodles .

45. The "Fearless" dress in silver

can you tour the capitol now

Silver is slightly better than gold, but the tassels still look like octopus tentacles.

44. The cupcake-shaped "Speak Now" ballgown

can you tour the capitol now

It's too puffy!

43. The "Karma" jacket in pink

can you tour the capitol now

It's too pink!

42. "Midnights" in pink and purple

can you tour the capitol now

This is a much nicer shade of pink.

41. "Midnights" in blue and purple

can you tour the capitol now

Blue makes sense for " Midnights ," especially because the standard album cover features a light-blue font.

40. "Midnights" with extra sparkles

can you tour the capitol now

This version of the T-shirt dress is slightly elevated, with multicolored gems scattered across the fabric.

39. The "Lavender Haze" look

can you tour the capitol now

The fuzzy coat that opens the "Midnights" segment is a reference to the "Lavender Haze" music video . This connection is most obvious when Swift wears the opalescent T-shirt dress underneath.

It kind of looks like Swift skinned a Muppet to make this coat, but don't worry: she confirmed in a behind-the-scenes clip  that she would never wear real fur.

38. The "Karma" jacket in blue

can you tour the capitol now

Blue-on-blue is a logical combo for the closing number, if a little predictable.

37. The "Karma" jacket with extra colors

can you tour the capitol now

The multicolored fringe is a little chaotic, but it's a fun way to spice things up for the final song of the evening.

36. The "Karma" jacket in magenta

can you tour the capitol now

The contrast between Swift's bright skin, dark-blue bodysuit, and hot-pink fringe is very compelling.

35. The "Tortured Poets" gown

can you tour the capitol now

I can imagine the new outfit for " The Tortured Poets Department " segment is designed to look like a "crumpled-up piece of paper lying here," evoking both the tragedy of " All Too Well " and the dark-academia aesthetic of the album itself.

It's a solid concept, but I'm sorry: I simply cannot support Swift's obsession with high-low mullet dresses . I thought we left this trend behind in 2010.

Worse still, the lyrics scrawled on the fabric ("I love you, it's ruining my life," from the single " Fortnight ") make it look like Swift is wearing a high-school theater costume, not a couture Vivienne Westwood gown.

34. The "Tortured Poets" military jacket

can you tour the capitol now

Swift adds a military jacket atop her "Tortured Poets" gown to sing "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived," an impassioned performance that casts Swift as a soldier on the front lines of a battlefield. The look is still a little corny, but at least it fully embraces the theatrical costume vibe.

33. The "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart" outfit

can you tour the capitol now

After singing "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived," Swift and her dancers perform a brief skit, in which Swift is forced to strip off her dress, put on heels, and smile through the pain.

The onstage outfit change yields a neutral-colored bralette and matching high-waisted bottoms. During night one in France, the set was black, topped with a gold duster . For the second show, it was all white with silver accents .

These ensembles recall the jackets and two-piece sets from The 1989 World Tour, combined with the ringmaster motif from the "Red" era.

At the time, Swift was battling an eating disorder and often feared she might faint onstage.

While the new Eras Tour outfit is relatively simple, this callback adds an extra layer of poignance to Swift's performance of "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart."

32. The classic "Evermore" dress

can you tour the capitol now

For the majority of the US leg, Swift only had one look for the " Evermore " segment: a mustard-yellow dress that screams cottagecore. It's cute but nothing particularly special, and it has grown a little dull over time.

Note: There is a slightly less saturated version of this dress, but they're so similar, they don't warrant separate entries on this list.

31. The bronze "Evermore" dress

can you tour the capitol now

Swift has only worn this alternate "Evermore" dress a handful of times, but it made for a nice change of pace — and the deep, sparkling bronze compliments the moody, wintery vibe of songs like "'Tis the Damn Season," "Champagne Problems," and "Tolerate It."

30. The "Speak Now" ballgown in gold

can you tour the capitol now

The ballgown is a callback to the Speak Now World Tour, when Swift wore sparkly gowns while singing "Enchanted." For The Eras Tour, Swift pumped up the drama with voluminous skirts and embroidered jewels.

The gold version is fine, but looks slightly cheaper than its counterparts — like an extravagant prom dress.

29. The "Speak Now" ballgown in silver

can you tour the capitol now

Instead of muted gold, silver offers a lovely contrast with the purple visuals of "Speak Now."

28. The "Speak Now" ballgown in pink

can you tour the capitol now

The baby-pink version of the "Speak Now" ballgown is the best among the original set of options, with its flattering neckline and strips of sparkles that resemble falling rain.

27. The "Fearless" dress with metallic fringe

can you tour the capitol now

The newest "Fearless" look that Swift debuted in France is a solid, mid-tier choice. It's much better than the era's stringy options, though it doesn't measure up to the original fringed mini dress.

26. The "Lover" bodysuit with purple tassels

can you tour the capitol now

The deep purple hue made for an exciting change when Swift debuted this look in East Rutherford, New Jersey — but the tassels throw off the whole effect. They make the bodysuit look cheaper than it is.

25. "1989" in orange

can you tour the capitol now

The orange set is nice, but it's the weakest link of the original Roberto Cavalli sets (and signals that she'll wear the yellow surprise-song dress. Yuck).

Maybe it's a subtle Easter egg for "Karma," the rumored album that Swift scrapped in between "1989" and "Reputation." (In the music video for "The Man," the word is graffitied on the wall in orange paint.)

24. "1989" in green

can you tour the capitol now

The green is prettier than orange, but not as pretty as pink.

23. "1989" in pink

can you tour the capitol now

Although hot pink isn't quite right for the overall vibe of "1989," it does pair well with the girlish charm of "Blank Space" and the fiery passion of "Bad Blood."

22. "1989" in blue

can you tour the capitol now

After 26 concerts, we finally got to see Swift perform songs from "1989" wearing the album's distinctive color. This glittering blue set recalls the New York City skyline that inspired Swift's iconic pop songs.

21. The "Midnights" bodysuit with millennial charm

can you tour the capitol now

The newest edition of the "Midnights" bodysuit was designed by Zuhair Murad. It subtly evokes millennial fashion trends with a halter neckline, waist slits, and a chevron-esque pattern.

20. The "Midnights" bodysuit with cutouts

can you tour the capitol now

This version of the "Midnights" bodysuit, which Swift debuted in Los Angeles, is likely designed to resemble an outfit that Swift wore during the 1989 World Tour .

It's one of her most daring looks yet , but the sheer patches in the abdomen look a little misplaced.

19. The "Lover" bodysuit in blue and yellow

can you tour the capitol now

The glitzy "Lover" bodysuits, custom-made by Versace, are always gorgeous. But there's something slightly off about the blue-and-yellow color combination. The tones are too muted to complement the show's opening visuals.

18. The "Lover" bodysuit in orange and pink

can you tour the capitol now

In theory, this is a strong color combo; it reminds me of a sunset. But in reality, the bodysuit is just slightly too orange.

17. "The Man" blazer in orange

can you tour the capitol now

Swift slips a bedazzled blazer over her "Lover" bodysuit to perform "The Man" and "You Need to Calm Down." The latest iteration is a pretty pale orange, though it doesn't feel as powerful as the other options.

16. "The Man" blazer in silver

can you tour the capitol now

The glittering silver blazer was the first costume change ever seen during The Eras Tour. With the matching red-bottomed Christian Louboutin boots, it remains an effective mix of elements.

15. "The Man" blazer in black

can you tour the capitol now

We all love the silver blazer, but the black blazer is extremely hot.

14. "Folklore" in blue

can you tour the capitol now

The sheer, baby-blue cape sleeves are gorgeous, but this color isn't quite the right fit for "Folklore," which is not a blue-sounding album in the slightest.

13. "Folklore" in purple

can you tour the capitol now

"Folklore" isn't a purple-sounding album either, but this dress does look like something a young widow might wear in a Jane Austen film adaptation , so it works.

12. "Folklore" in cream

can you tour the capitol now

Cream is a fitting color for "Folklore," an album that evokes earthy and neutral tones.

11. "Folklore" with lace

can you tour the capitol now

This is only slightly different from "Folklore" in cream, but the lace adds a new edge — romantic and old-timey, well-suited for the "pioneer woman in a forbidden love affair" that Swift imagined while she was writing these songs.

10. The "Speak Now" ballgown in blue

can you tour the capitol now

Although blue is not the traditional "Speak Now" color, everything about this dress is truly stunning, from the floral details to the elegant train.

Plus, the color recalls a sky-blue ballgown that Swift wore during the original "Speak Now" tour in 2011 , giving this look an extra layer of nostalgic charm.

9. The "Speak Now" ballgown with embellishments

can you tour the capitol now

There aren't any official photos yet of the newest "Speak Now" look, which Swift debuted in France. But according to photos shared by fans online, it's the best one yet.

The skirt has just enough volume to look elegant instead of puffy — while the gown's delicate, glittering details evoke a similar dress that Swift wore to perform "Enchanted" in 2011 , which is currently on display at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville .

8. The original "Midnights" bodysuit

can you tour the capitol now

The navy bodysuit is an Eras Tour classic, dark and twinkling like midnight rain. It's an almost-perfect choice to close the show.

7. "Folklore" in green

can you tour the capitol now

Out of all the flowy "Folklore" gowns, green is the best fit for the album's aura. It makes Swift look like a woodland fairy.

6. The original "Fearless" dress

can you tour the capitol now

Swift's flapper-inspired dress is ideal for performing classics like "You Belong With Me" and "Love Story." The fringe is fun and youthful, just like the original "Fearless" era, but paired with knee-high boots, it's still chic and modern.

In fact, according to Vogue , the dress is designed to resemble a similar Roberto Cavalli dress that Swift wore during her original "Fearless" tour.

"We chose a beautiful champagne color, which is very Taylor," designer Fausto Puglisi told the magazine.

5. The only "Reputation" outfit

can you tour the capitol now

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The one-legged "Reputation" jumpsuit, also by Roberto Cavalli, is bold and sexy with a hint of danger, just like the album itself . Puglisi described it as "more of a badass, rock and roll look."

4. The scalloped "Midnights" bodysuit

can you tour the capitol now

There is something especially ethereal about this version of the classic "Midnights" bodysuit, custom-made by Oscar de la Renta.

The blue has a slightly warmer, richer tone — a better match for Swift's ocean eyes and pinkish undertones than navy — and the scalloped detailing on the bodice is exquisite up close. Paired with Swift's now-signature garter, this look is a total knockout.

3. "The Man" blazer in hot pink

can you tour the capitol now

Swift looks like a Barbie come to life in this version of the blazer, which she debuted onstage in Argentina. It also gives her performance of "The Man" a flirty, feminine edge.

2. The "Lover" bodysuit in pink and red

can you tour the capitol now

Swift also debuted this pink version of her opening look in Argentina. The gorgeous combination of shades, from baby pink to strawberry and fuchsia, compliments the tone of songs like "Cruel Summer" and "Lover."

1. The original "Lover" bodysuit

can you tour the capitol now

This was the first outfit Swift wore when she arrived on the Eras Tour stage back in March, and to this day, it remains the best.

The blue, purple, and pink gems create the perfect color combo, especially suited for the warmth and whimsy of the "Lover" era.

🚨| Taylor Swift performing "Paris" for the first time ever in Paris! #ParisTSTheErasTour pic.twitter.com/eQOCYAAm6p — The Eras Tour (@tswifterastour) May 9, 2024

Fans will certainly be analysing this evening’s performance for some time.

New setlist, new performances, new outfits – while some songs were cut.

First Europe show ends

“I love you so much,” Taylor tells the crowd in the Paris arena, closing the first night of the Europe leg of her Eras tour, where she revamped her setlist and performed new music for the first time.

Taylor is singing Karma.

‘Cause karma is my boyfriend Karma is a god Karma is the breeze in my hair on the weekend Karma’s a relaxing thought Aren’t you envious that for you it’s not? Sweet like honey, karma is a cat Purring in my lap ‘cause it loves me Flexing like a goddamn acrobat Me and karma vibe like that

We’re on the last song :(

“This has been an unforgettable night in Paris, we love you so much!” Taylor tells the audience.

We’re close to the end of the show…

Taylor is now singing Mastermind. Love these lyrics:

What if I told you none of it was accidental And the first night that you saw me, nothing was gonna stop me? I laid the groundwork and then, just like clockwork The dominoes cascaded in a line

“So on the weekends She don’t dress for friends Lately she’s been dressing for revenge”

She’s moved to Vigilante Shit.

And here’s footage from the earlier TTDP set:

Midnight Rain is up now.

“It’s me, hi, I’m the problem, it’s me At tea time, everybody agrees I’ll stare directly at the sun but never in the mirror It must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero”

Mortgage Fraudster Who Served 13 Years in $55M Scheme Now Helps Fight Scammers

In the late ’90s, Matthew Cox was 29 and starting a new job as a mortgage broker in Tampa, FL, when he committed his first act of mortgage fraud by erasing a borrower’s late payment history from a loan application.

His schemes multiplied quickly. From doctoring loan application information for clients, he went on to mastermind an elaborate series of schemes involving stolen and fabricated identities, phony appraisals, home title theft , and mortgage frauds totaling some $55 million in illicit gains.

After a stint on the Secret Service’s Most Wanted List and the national notoriety of a “Dateline” episode about his crimes, it all came crashing down on Cox with an arrest, guilty plea, and prison sentence in 2007.

While serving time in federal prison, Cox agreed to help the government train mortgage brokers and loan officers to spot potential fraud. Following his release in 2019, he hosts a true-crime podcast, “ Inside True Crime .” He also works as a paid spokesman for Home Title Lock, a company that monitors for deed fraud and helps homeowners respond.

In a recent phone interview with Realtor.com®, Cox said he regrets the disruption and expense his crimes generated in the lives of the everyday homeowners who fell victim to his identity theft and forgery schemes.

“That’s something that bothers me,” says Cox, now 54.

In one case, while he was on the run from the FBI, Cox stole the identity of his landlord in the Atlanta suburbs and filed forged documents claiming that the mortgage on the home had been satisfied. Using the landlord’s stolen identity, Cox then took out three new loans against the property totaling $329,000, maxed out credit cards he’d also opened under the stolen identity, and skipped town.

“Let’s face it, if Countrywide Bank lost $2 million … I don’t lose an ounce of sleep,” he says. “But [the Georgia landlord] didn’t do anything to deserve what happened to him. The biggest mistake he made was crossing my path.”

Ultimately, the landlord wasn’t on the hook for the fraudulent loans in his name, Cox says, but straightening out the mess probably caused him “two months of sleepless nights” and significant legal fees.

“I’m sure that the anxiety that he felt was overwhelming, and he’s just one of several people that that happened to,” says Cox of the fallout from his crimes.

From art student to con artist

Cox grew up in Florida and studied sculpture at the University of South Florida, where he graduated with a degree in fine arts.

After bouncing around several entry-level jobs without much success, he landed at a Tampa mortgage brokerage that catered to prospective homebuyers with subprime credit scores.

There, Cox was tasked with preparing loan applications for customers and matching them with a loan for which they qualified. In exchange, he charged a broker’s fee—and sometimes took points on the loan for charging borrowers a higher interest rate than the lowest for which they qualified.

That practice, known as a “yield spread premium,” has since been banned by federal regulation.

Raking in thousands in fees on every successful mortgage deal, Cox turned to fraud almost immediately. To ensure his clients’ loan applications were accepted, he began forging documents such as employment records and bank statements.

Eventually, Cox was creating entirely fictional identities, along with fake companies to employ them and phony banks to generate account statements.

“The fine arts degree helped me create the illusions that I used to further my scams, whether it was the illusion that this person was a real individual, or he had a bank where he had accounts,” recalls Cox. “It helped me create documents, anything to support what I needed in order to get a loan from a bank.”

Cox was first convicted of low-level mortgage fraud in 2002 and sentenced to probation. But after being caught once, his schemes only grew larger and more elaborate.

“Instead of doing the right thing and going and getting a job selling used cars, I committed a much larger fraud,” he says. “It was a combination of identity theft, title theft, and bank fraud.”

A scammer repents

In 2004, Cox went on the run after again coming under investigation for mortgage fraud in Tampa. After a fraud spree spanning Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina, he was arrested in late 2006 in Nashville, TN.

Facing more than 400 years in prison, he negotiated a plea deal. His original sentence of 26 years in prison was eventually cut in half, due to his cooperation in a separate case and his agreement to help create fraud training materials for the federal government. Cox was released from prison in 2019 after serving nearly 13 years.

Since his guilty plea, Cox says he’s reformed and has turned his unusual talents to fighting fraud. Through Home Title Lock, he promotes a vital defense against the type of deed scams he used to perpetrate.

“This is going to sound like a shameless pitch, but have your title monitored,” he says when asked what homeowners can do to protect themselves from deed fraud. “They will help you contact the authorities so that you can specifically explain what happened, and they’ll hire a real estate attorney in your area to correct the problem.”

Home Title Lock, which costs $20 per month, is a service that monitors property titles for any transfers, and handles the legal fees involved in resolving any fraudulent transfer.

However, a growing number of U.S. counties and cities allow homeowners to sign up for free title monitoring. And the right kind of title insurance, which requires only a one-time fee, will handle the legal side of responding to title fraud.

Home Title Lock, which is marketed heavily to seniors, has come under scrutiny in several jurisdictions, including in Texas, where in January 2023 the attorney general’s office opened a civil investigation into the company for potentially misleading consumers.

“If Home Title Lock is misrepresenting its services or the need for its services, I will put a stop to its unlawful behavior,” said Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in a statement at the time. It’s unclear whether that investigation is ongoing. Paxton’s office did not respond to a request for comment.

On the other hand, David Fleck , a real estate fraud attorney, tells Realtor.com that Home Title Lock deserves credit for raising public awareness about home title theft “better than any government-issued public service announcement ever could.”

“Every property owner in the United States needs to be aware of how easy it is to file fraudulent deeds,” says Fleck in an email. “As a former prosecutor who has battled this crime since 2003, I can tell you that every homeowner owes the founder of Home Title Lock, Harish Chopra , a debt of gratitude.”

Fleck, the founder of another deed fraud prevention service called Veritable Data Solutions, says that title monitoring of some kind should be “mandatory” for elderly relatives with in-home caregivers.

“The vast overwhelming majority of caregivers are good people, but as in any population, there are some unscrupulous characters, and they are often the people you least suspect,” says Fleck. “A title monitoring service, whether provided by the county or by Home Title Lock, will give you some peace of mind about your elderly relative’s property (i.e., your inheritance).”

Cox himself admits that title monitoring alone cannot prevent scammers from filing a fraudulent deed in the first place.

“With your credit, you can lock your credit so that nobody can pull it. You can’t do that with a title. … They can’t lock it down,” he says. “As long as the [forged] document looks correct, and it’s notarized and all the signatures are in the right spot, they have to record it. There’s nothing they can do.”
