Acquisitions Surveyor

Job description.

McDonald's is the largest family restaurant in the world, serving approximately 69 million customers across 36,000 restaurants a day: in more than 100 countries. The UK & Ireland market is one of the most successful entities across the wider business, serving on average 4 million people a day. It has operated in UK since 1974 and the business is growing continuously with more than 1,400 restaurants and over 154,000 employees.

McDonald’s UK & Ireland has a proven track record of investing in the development of its employees and offering flexibility as part of its dedication to being a modern and progressive company. Every year, it invests over £40 million in developing people, giving every one of its employees the opportunity to take part in structured training.

McDonald’s buys ingredients from over 17,500 British and Irish farmers and spends over £1.1billion annually on its food and packaging requirements. McDonald’s is committed to supporting British and Irish farmers to ensure it can continue to source many of its ingredients from the UK and Ireland.

McDonald’s is a market leader in its field, striving for the highest standard of quality, speed and restaurant experience. Re-generation of our restaurant infrastructure, covering digital ordering, re-imaging and dual-point service make working at McDonald’s more exciting than ever!

We are dedicated to using our scale for good: good for people, our industry and the planet. From bold recycling initiatives and sustainable sourcing efforts to our partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities, we see every day as a chance to have a genuine impact on our customers, our people and our partners.

We're a people business just as much as we are a restaurant business. We strive to be the most inclusive brand in the world by building diverse teams who create delicious, feel-good moments that are easy for everyone to enjoy. Joining McDonald's means thinking big every day and preparing for a career that can have impact around the world.

Company Vision and Culture

Our Global vision is to build a better McDonald’s and, in the UK, and Ireland we are working hard to be the UK & Irelands best-loved restaurant company.

McDonald’s is defined by its culture. Our culture shapes and informs everything we think and everything we do. Our culture influences the way we interact with each other, and how we interact with customers, franchisees and suppliers. Our culture motivates and inspires us to attract and retain great talent, creating positive, energising, exceptional working environment for us all.

Our values drive our culture and shape our beliefs, our priorities and our actions. They influence the decisions we make, how we treat one another and how we show up as a brand to the world.

Serve:  We put our customers and our people first

Inclusion : We open our doors to everyone

Integrity:  We do the right thing

Community : We are good neighbours

Family:  We get better together

The Opportunity   We need an ambitious surveyor to join our acquisitions team and play an integral role in the acquisition and development of new restaurants, predominantly drive thru’s, throughout the UK and Ireland.  This is an outstanding opportunity to join the highly successful development team of one of the most iconic brands in the world.

What will my accountabilities be?

  • In a timely manner
  • In line with expected sales and ROI
  • With acceptable deal terms and planning permissions/conditions
  • You will play an integral role throughout the entire acquisitions process, from identifying sites and appraising their viability, negotiating both freehold/leasehold deals, gaining planning permission and liaising with construction colleagues throughout the delivery process through to completion.
  • You will interact and manage an abundance of external third parties including landowners, developers, property agents, local planning authorities, solicitors, consultants and many more, as well as working closely with our internal construction, legal, finance and ops teams.
  • Using your existing experience as a foundation you will build a strong external network to help identify and source opportunities, as well as raising your own profile and that of McDonald’s to ensure we are top of mind for agents, vendors and developers.
  • You will build strong market and geographical knowledge and be abreast of competitor activity and market deals.

What Team will I be a part?

You will be part of the Acquisitions Team, forming part of the wider Real Estate Development Department along with Construction and Estates.  Location is flexible although regular travel for site visits and internal/external meetings is essential.

  • Be a good team player with the knowledge and enthusiasm to learn and develop
  • A pragmatic and common-sense approach is essential whilst being able to work under pressure and prioritise effectively

At McDonald’s we are People from all Walks of Life...

People are at the heart of everything we do , and they make the McDonald’s experience.  We embrace diversity  and are  committed to creating an inclusive culture  that means people can be their best authentic self in our restaurants and offices, which helps us to better serve our customers. We have a strong heritage of diversity and representation within our communities, which we are proud of. The diversity of our people, customers, Franchisees and suppliers gives us strength.

CEO David Schwimmer attends the Reuters NEXT Newsmaker event in New York City, New York, U.S., December 1, 2022.

Shareholders back £7m pay rise for London Stock Exchange boss

Vote to double David Schwimmer’s maximum pay levels comes as fear grow about exodus of firms from City

Business live – latest updates

Shareholders have voted in favour of doubling the pay packet of London Stock Exchange Group’s chief executive to £13m on the same day that fears were reignited about an exodus of UK-listed firms.

Investors backed the group’s plans to increase David Schwimmer’s maximum pay levels from £6.25m to more than £13m. The resolution passed, with nearly 89% voting in favour of the new pay policy.

The LSEG annual shareholder meeting was held as it emerged that two large UK-listed companies, Unilever and Anglo American, may leave the London market for lucrative deals and listings abroad.

The Australian mining company BHP has a £31bn offer for rival Anglo American, a move that could result in the cancellation of FTSE 100-listed firm’s UK shares. Two years ago, BHP dropped its dual Australia-UK listing in favour of a single home on the Sydney stock exchange.

Meanwhile, the chief executive of Unilever, Hein Schumacher, said the consumer goods company was “considering all options” for a potential listing of its ice-cream business, which makes brands including Magnum and Ben & Jerry’s, and could be valued at up to €17bn (£14.6bn).

Schumacher said he was “talking to many different stakeholders in the process” and had discussed a potential Amsterdam listing with the Dutch economic affairs minister. However, he did not confirm whether he met the equivalent UK minister, raising fears that London could miss out on another bumper stock market float. Schumacher added that he had “regular conversations with governments including the UK government”.

There has been much handwringing in the City and Whitehall over an exodus of listed firms from the London stock market. Those leaving include the travel group Tui, which will shift its listing to Germany , and the Dublin-based betting firm Flutter, which is asking shareholders to consider moving its shares to the US market.

Schwimmer tried to appear upbeat, telling shareholders on Thursday the pipeline of floats was “encouraging” and that a pending shake-up of listings rules, which include simplifying some requirements for companies, would be helpful. “We are very pleased with the direction of travel for the London market,” he said.

The influential shareholder advisory firm Glass Lewis had advised shareholders to reject Schwimmer’s pay policy, saying in a report this month that the company had not “sufficiently rationalised an increase of this magnitude in a lump sum approach, particularly given the CEO’s pay relative to UK peers”.

after newsletter promotion

However, Schwimmer had argued that the group had to compete with peers in the US, where executives can expect much higher renumeration. “If London has an ambition to be a globally leading financial centre and to attract world-class companies, that means it has to attract world-class talent,” he said in February.

LSEG said this month that it was “focused on securing and retaining the calibre of talent required in a highly competitive global market” while “ensuring delivery of strong performance” was rewarded.

West Ham hold talks with Ruben Amorim in London over potentially replacing David Moyes

VILA NOVA DE FAMALICAO, PORTUGAL - APRIL 16: Head Coach Ruben Amorim of Sporting CP gestures during the Liga Portugal Bwin match between FC Famalicao and Sporting CP at Estadio Municipal de Famalicao on April 16, 2024 in Vila Nova de Famalicao, Portugal. (Photo by Diogo Cardoso/Getty Images)

Ruben Amorim is in London for talks with West Ham United over becoming their new manager if David Moyes leaves the club.

Moyes is out of contract this summer and despite the Scot saying in February he has been offered a new deal, no decision will be made on his future until the season finishes.

In the meantime, West Ham are duty-bound to formulate contingency plans and Amorim features prominently in their thinking, with discussions taking place between the parties.

Amorim, 39, travelled to London on Monday for further conversations with West Ham’s representatives. Sporting Lisbon players are not back in training until Thursday as they have been given Tuesday and Wednesday off.

Another option the east London side have assessed is Julen Lopetegui, however Amorim has emerged as the leading target at present.

  • ‘He will be an unavoidable name in European football’ – Amorim, Europe’s next supercoach?
  • Analysing Liverpool’s Plan B managerial options

While the potential opening is thought to carry appeal for the 39-year-old Sporting Lisbon head coach, it is unclear where West Ham figure among his possible opportunities.

Amorim has also been under consideration at Liverpool, although it looks unlikely he will prove the preferred candidate in their process to replace outgoing boss Jurgen Klopp.

Moyes — who guided the club to a first European trophy since 1965 with the Europa Conference League last season — has overseen 12 league defeats to date this year, including Sunday’s loss to Crystal Palace , which Moyes described as “so bad, I can hardly put it into words”.

West Ham, eighth in the Premier League table, are next in action against Liverpool on Saturday.

Who is Ruben Amorim?

Analysis by The Athletic’s data analyst Mark Carey

Amorim was targeted by Sporting after a hugely successful — albeit brief — stint with fellow Portuguese side Braga that saw him win 10 of his 13 games in charge.

In his first full season, 2021-22, he guided them to a first league title for 19 years with his controlled, possession-dominant style of play, and Sporting look set to add another title to their name this season as they sit seven points clear at the top of the Primeira Liga.

The 39-year-old’s CV is particularly impressive in improving the quality of the team with the resources he has had at his disposal. With many talented players leaving Sporting while he has been in the dugout — including Nuno Mendes , Pedro Porro , Joao Palhinha , and Matheus Nunes — Amorim’s stylistic approach has remained unchanged, and that consistency has been key to their title credentials this season.

trek jobs london

Even accounting for the imbalance of the Primeira Liga, a side who boast, statistically, one of the best attacks and the best defence across Europe’s top seven league shows that their manager must be having a positive effect.

As a coach known for fielding young players and improving individual player performance, you can understand why he is highly sought-after.

This felt like the end of an era for West Ham and David Moyes - clarity is needed soon
