kanoet strandloper trek

Red Knot, Calidris canutus - Strandlopers (Scolopacidae)

doortrekker in vrij groot aantal

  • vogels opzettelijk te doden of vangen;
  • nesten, rustplaatsen en eieren van vogels opzettelijk te vernielen of beschadigen of nesten weg te nemen;
  • eieren van vogels te rapen en onder zich hebben;
  • vogels opzettelijk te storen;

  • de algemene zorgplicht die stelt dat iedereen voldoende zorg moet dragen voor de fysieke leefomgeving;
  • de specifieke zorgplichten voor natuurgebieden en inheemse vogels die erop gericht zijn om nadelige effecten te voorkomen, beperken of herstellen;
  • de verplichting om onnodig lijden te voorkomen bij het legaal doden of vangen van dieren in het wild;
  • het algemene verbod op dierenmishandeling (Wet dieren).

Bijzondere regels

History [ ]

The Danube -class was first commissioned by Starfleet in 2368 as a small, short-range interstellar craft. ( DS9 : " Paradise ") This class of runabout was being built at the Starfleet Runabout Facility located at Utopia Planitia , Mars , in the 2370s . ( DS9 : " Looking for par'Mach in All the Wrong Places ")

The following year , the space station Deep Space 9 took on three runabouts for use in their daily operations: the USS Ganges , the USS Yangtzee Kiang , and the USS Rio Grande . They were transported to the station aboard the USS Enterprise and were housed within the landing bays situated around the habitat ring . ( DS9 : " Emissary ")

In the first two years of the space station's use by Starfleet, the runabout remained the primary method of transport and defense support, as they were instrumental in discovering many new worlds and civilizations within the Gamma Quadrant , as well as the Bajoran wormhole itself. ( DS9 : " Emissary ", " Battle Lines ", " Vortex ", " The Alternate ", " Shadowplay ", " The Jem'Hadar ")

In mid- 2370 , DS9 sent its runabouts into the Gamma Quadrant to make contact with the fleet of Skrreean refugee ships that were on the other side of the wormhole . ( DS9 : " Sanctuary ")

In 2371 of an alternate timeline , the Yellowstone -class , which offered an alternate form of drive than the Danube -class, was introduced. ( VOY : " Non Sequitur ")

Even after DS9 took delivery of the USS Defiant in 2371, the runabouts were still widely used, and for a time, the station was equipped with at least four of these runabouts. ( DS9 : " Visionary ")

Just before the beginning of the Dominion War , Elim Garak and Worf used a runabout to stealthily rescue crew members at Internment Camp 371 . ( DS9 : " In Purgatory's Shadow ") They were also used to help defend DS9 against a Dominion fleet. ( DS9 : " By Inferno's Light ") The later were used in exercises with the Ninth Fleet in 2374 . ( DS9 : " Change of Heart ")

Colonel Kira Nerys used a runabout to covertly travel to Cardassia Prime to aid Damar 's resistance movement . ( DS9 : " Tacking Into the Wind ")

Technical data [ ]

Specifications [ ].

Danube -class runabouts were about a quarter the size of an Erewon -class personnel transport . ( DS9 : " Paradise ") Their overall width was 14 meters . ( DS9 : " Playing God ") Runabouts were designed to have a maximum speed of warp 5 . ( DS9 : " Dax ")

According to the script for " Emissary ", as the Rio Grande tows the Prakesh from the wormhole, it was revealed " to see an incredible sight… the tiny Runabout towing out the huge Cardassian warship, at the end of a tractor beam, fifty times larger than the Starfleet vessel… "

Operations [ ]

According to Jadzia Dax , runabouts " practically fly themselves ", in fact, they were capable of operating with automatic helm control , yet were easy for anyone to pilot, especially someone who had third level flight experience . ( TNG : " Timescape "; DS9 : " Playing God ") When asked by his father, Commander Sisko, if he could do any science project he wanted to in late 2370, Jake Sisko immediately chose, " pilot a runabout ", but was shot down as that was " not exactly a science project. " ( DS9 : " The Jem'Hadar ")

Although typically customary for both seats to be enabled so that a second individual could pilot the craft in the event of an emergency, Commander Sisko intentionally did not illuminate the ship's controls at the other pilot's station where Gul Dukat was seated during a joint mission to the Volan colonies in the Demilitarized Zone in 2370 . Dukat assured Sisko that he would not " steal [his] little technical secrets. " It was later revealed that despite Starfleet's best efforts, the Cardassian Central Command already possessed knowledge on the operations of this class vessel, as Dukat later stated that he " knew all about these controls before I ever came on board " and pointed out to Sisko the correct location of the photon launcher control. ( DS9 : " The Maquis, Part I ")

USS Rio Grande tractors the Orinoco

Performing a "warp tow"

The Danube -class runabouts were also equipped with an aft tractor beam emitter. This emitter could be used to tow starships at least as large as a Galor -class . Jean-Luc Picard once commented, in 2369, that he suspected " that the sight of [a Cardassian] warship being towed back [from the Gamma Quadrant ] by a Starfleet runabout took the heart out of their fight. " ( DS9 : " Emissary ") They were also capable of being rigged to tow at warp velocities. ( DS9 : " Paradise ") However, they did not possess the strength necessary to haul a Jem'Hadar fighter buried under ninety meters of rock and into orbit . ( DS9 : " The Ship ")

A runabout did not possess the ability to generate a subspace isolation field of the magnitude required to lock on and surround the warp core of a Galaxy -class in order to beam it into space . ( TNG : " Timescape ")

The hull of a Danube -class ship was made up of metallic composites that could interact with magnetic fields . Lost ships could be found by using a differential magnetometer to detect fluctuations in the hysteresis curve . ( DS9 : " Battle Lines ") In the case of low power, each runabout had a contingency fuel cell to provide an emergency supply of power. The vessels also had the ability to eject their antimatter pods if so needed. ( DS9 : " Battle Lines ")

A runabout could be modified so as to prevent sensors from picking up its power signature by modulating the engine's power emissions, reconfiguring the deflector shield grid , and installing field buffers around the subspace emitter coil . If done properly, it could be made to appear as a Lissepian transport . However, if not done correctly, the field buffers would distort the runabout's power signature, causing it to appear to outside scans as to be operating with malfunctioning subspace field emitters , a malfunction that could be passed off as problematic phase modulators . ( DS9 : " The Homecoming ")

Defensive systems [ ]

USS Rio Grande firing phasers

Firing phasers

For defense, the runabouts were armed with phasers and photon torpedoes . The torpedo launcher assembly was accessible via a hatch on the floor of the forward cabin. ( DS9 : " Past Prologue ") In late 2370, Chief Miles O'Brien of Deep Space 9 began retrofitting the weapon systems of the runabouts USS Mekong and USS Orinoco with extra banks of photon torpedoes in preparation to the Federation's first engagement with the Dominion . ( DS9 : " The Jem'Hadar ") He also made some modifications to the phaser arrays and shield generators of the station's runabouts. ( DS9 : " Hippocratic Oath ")

As DS9's original lifeline to the rest of the Alpha Quadrant, the runabouts often dealt with many skirmishes on the frontier. They were utilized in fighting off Maquis raiders . ( DS9 : " The Maquis, Part II ") Sisko believed that a runabout could handle a Bajoran patrol . ( DS9 : " The Siege ")

They were not, however, a match against a T'Lani cruiser . ( DS9 : " Armageddon Game ") Nor could they outrun a Theta -class , a Klaestron starship , or a Jem'Hadar attack ship . ( DS9 : " Dax ", " Vortex ", " Treachery, Faith and the Great River ") According to Gul Dukat, Cardassian pursuit vessels were "years ahead" of the runabout design. ( DS9 : " The Maquis, Part I ") Although surviving their initial engagement alongside the USS Odyssey in a confrontation with three Jem'Hadar fighters, alone they were no match for a wing of said fighters. ( DS9 : " The Die is Cast ", " Valiant ") Nevertheless, with proper instruction, a runabout had the ability to destroy a Jem'Hadar fighter if allowed to get past the enemy ship's defenses. ( DS9 : " Treachery, Faith and the Great River ")

A runabout was small enough to be able to get close enough to another ship in order to overload the other ship's shield generators with directed phaser fire. ( DS9 : " The Passenger ")

Interior configuration [ ]

Danube 73918 cockpit

Typical cockpit configuration of a Danube -class runabout

Ideally, a runabout was piloted by two crewmembers, although one pilot would suffice. ( DS9 : " The Maquis, Part I ") The pilots' consoles faced forward upon two large portholes. The cockpit had stations for up to four crewmembers. The two large portholes were equipped with retractable blast shutters. ( DS9 : " One Little Ship ") Small square viewscreens mounted within the forward corners of the cabin were used for video communication and ship status displays. ( DS9 : " Vortex ")

Runabout interior, 2381

Amidship and cabin as viewed from the aft

In the original configuration, a food replicator and a compact personnel transporter were located immediately behind the cockpit stations. After the class underwent a refit as hostilities arose between the Federation and the Dominion , the transporter and replicator were moved further back and a secondary tactical console was positioned in the cockpit. The transporter was capable of transporting multiple persons simultaneously. ( DS9 : " Vortex ")

The aft interior cabin area

The rear of the craft could be configured as a passenger cabins complete with sleeping and dining areas for extended travel. ( TNG : " Timescape "; DS9 : " The Jem'Hadar ", " Let He Who Is Without Sin... ", " By Inferno's Light ") This area could also be used as a cargo bay . ( DS9 : " Tribunal ")

In the center of the craft, between the two wing pylons, a series of replaceable modules could be connected. These modules could be swapped to suit mission requirements. Examples of available modules included science laboratories, crew quarters, and photon or quantum torpedo bays. ( DS9 : " Melora ") The craft was also equipped with an emergency unit for medical emergencies . ( DS9 : " The Passenger ")

Also carried aboard runabouts were medkits , covariant oscillators , communications probes , portable generators , and a stasis chamber . ( DS9 : " Paradise ", " Heart of Stone ", " Nor the Battle to the Strong ", " Change of Heart ")

The runabout was equipped with at least one manual emergency hatch , located amidship on the port side of the vehicle. ( DS9 : " Battle Lines ") A small Jefferies tube was also present, immediately underneath the warp core that ran along the spine of the vessel. ( DS9 : " Blaze of Glory ")

Background information [ ]

Runabout Modular Design

Modular design of runabout

Although originally called "Runabout-class" by Benjamin Sisko in "Emissary," the official class designation was " Danube -class." The official name was originally mentioned in the Star Trek Encyclopedia , 1st ed., p. 285, but was later seen in episodes as part of display graphics and reiterated in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual (p. 140). The term " Danube -class" was first used in dialogue in " Hippocratic Oath ".

Interestingly enough, the aft cabin sections were never seen in any of the Deep Space Nine episodes in which they were a staple, yet the aft cabin was featured prominently in " Timescape ", the only TNG episode in which the runabout appeared.

Early in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , the writers planned to occasionally drop in runabouts named for rivers on other worlds, but producer Michael Piller noted that the need to include the explanation in dialogue would probably detract from an episode's storytelling. As a result, all runabouts on screen ended up named for Earth rivers. ( Star Trek Sticker Book , pg. 13)

Studio model [ ]

The Danube -class runabout was designed by Rick Sternbach and Jim Martin , and the interior cockpit set was designed by Joseph Hodges , all under the direction of Herman Zimmerman . The aft compartment was designed by Richard James . The miniature was built by Tony Meininger .

According to Sternbach, the studio model of the Sydney -class , first seen in " Relics ", was to have become the basis for DS9's runabouts, before a new design was ordered. [1]

Computer generated model [ ]

VisionArt Design & Animation created a computer generated model of the runabout.

The CG model proved a boon when " Change of Heart " featured the runabout Shenandoah flying through an asteroid belt and landing in the Soukara jungle. Commented Adam Buckner : " That was another one of those shots that would have been almost impossible to do with motion control. Where do you mount the ship? Because you see it coming, its bottom, one side, and its nose. It turns around, you see its back, the other side, and its top. Where do you mount it if it's a motion control model? David [Stipes] was able to do it because it was a computer generated model. " ( Cinefantastique , 146, Vol 30 #9/10, 1998)

Technical Manual [ ]

The following specifications were included in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual (p. 140):

  • Height: 5.4 meters
  • Length: 23.1 meters
  • Width: 13.7 meters
  • Crew: Up to 40 passengers
  • Phasers: 6 emitters
  • Photons: 2 launch tubes, Stock: 2 micro-photon torpedoes
  • Cruise speed: warp 2
  • Max speed: warp 5
  • Impulse: Standard units

The runabout's modular platform allowed easy configuration for a multitude of missions. Two such modules were the "mission module" and "sensor pod". The runabout could carry four different sizes of mission modules. ( Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual , p. 143)

The Technical Manual also states that the USS Danube (NX-72003) was the prototype of this class, constructed at Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards in 2365 . (p. 140)

Apocrypha [ ].

The Danube -class runabout is in the game Star Trek Online , and can be customized with or without the rollbar. It features as both a playable ship of the shuttle/fighter tier or as a hangar 'pet' launchable from other craft with hangar bays, such as Akira -class vessels.

Based on the New York Times bestseller and now adapted into an 8-part TV drama starring Ewan McGregor, "A Gentleman In Moscow" was hotly anticipated. Now it's here, here's how to watch it from anywhere with a VPN — and potentially for FREE.

Count Alexander Rostov (McGregor) – the eponymous "Gentleman In Moscow" – finds himself imprisoned in the attic of a grand Moscow hotel after the Russian Revolution, observing the collapse of the Soviet regime from his gilded cage.

It could have been worse. Life under house arrest in a luxurious hotel was not the standard punishment handed down to enemies of the state after the Bolshevik revolution, but a summary execution would not have made for a great narrative arc.

Rostov may be fictional (although, interestingly, the glorious Art Nouveau Metropol Hotel is not) but through his eyes we see some of the pivotal events in Russian and world history take place, as he falls in love and attempts to build a new life.

A Gentleman In Moscow Cast & Character Guide

Ewan mcgregor's historical drama weirdly copies his 2022 star wars show, the deeper meaning behind a gentleman in moscow episode 3's bees.

  • Count Rostov finds family, love, and purpose in his confinement at the Metropol Hotel, despite his initial imprisonment.
  • The ending of A Gentleman in Moscow remains ambiguous, leaving Alexander's fate open to interpretation.
  • Love and sacrifice are the central themes of the show, as Alexander risks everything to ensure the safety and happiness of his found family.

The ending of A Gentleman in Moscow brings with it the conclusion of Alexander Rostov's story, with his 35-year stretch of imprisonment inside Moscow's Metropol Hotel coming to a halt. After returning home from Paris in 1918 to save his grandmother from the violence of Russia's Bolshevik revolution , Count Rostov is sentenced to life imprisonment for his status as a member of the nation's ruling class. However, instead of being locked in a prison cell, Ewan McGregor's character is confined to the walls of a luxury hotel in the nation's capital.

Alexander is spared execution, unlike so many of his other social peers. The reason for the leniency is Alexander being incorrectly credited with a poem titled "Where is our Purpose Now?" The literary work, actually written in 1913 by Alexander's old friend, Mishka, was partially credited as inciting the Revolution. The count manages to carve out some level of existence for himself at the Metropol , with the novelty of his situation quickly wearing off. Along the way, Alexander Rostov finds the family he'd never had before, giving a man who'd lost everything something else to lose.

The Paramount/Showtime limited series A Gentleman in Moscow is led by Golden Globe and Emmy winner Ewan McGregor and his wife Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

What Happens To Alexander Rostov After He Leaves The Metropol Hotel Explained

The post-escape fate of mcgregor's character is unknown.

At the end of A Gentleman in Moscow episode 8, "Adieu," Alexander dons his hat and strolls through the doors of the Metropol Hotel. After all the phones in the building ring at once as Richard Vanderwhile's signal that Sofia is safe, Alexander can depart while knowing his surrogate daughter is in trusted hands. While Alexander is shown successfully leaving the building , the other side of the door isn't shown, so it's impossible to confirm what happens to the Count after this scene. Even the show's narrator, an older Sofia, confirms that she never knew what her father did next.

"I discovered that Papa had escaped the hotel, but what happened after remains a mystery. I like to imagine [Alexander and Anna] finally free, living out the rest of their lives together. They gave me the greatest gift of life. I'll keep them in my heart. Always. "

The sequence that's shown of Alexander's reunion with Anna in "Adieu" is shot in the same 4:3 aspect ratio as A Gentleman in Moscow 's flashbacks sequences, which were often from Count Rostov's point of view. However, as Sofia confirms that she never saw her parents again , this particular scene can't be a memory. Instead, what's being shown is Sofia's imaginings, dreaming of the two people who risked so much to save her enjoying a well-deserved, peaceful life.

Alexander does still have his stolen Finnish passport when he leaves the hotel, so it is possible he was able to flee the country and reunite with Anna.

The black apples shown during this scene are another sign that it's nothing more than Sofia's fantasy . Earlier in the same episode, Alexander tells the Metropol staff of an old legend from when he was growing up. The story tells of a tree hidden deep in the woods, bearing " Apples as black as coal ." If a person found and ate the apples, they would have the chance to live their life anew. Alexander immediately adds that he wouldn't eat the apples if he were to find them today, as despite his tumultuous life, it's a journey he doesn't regret.

Alexander is never shown telling Sofia this same story, but the presence of the black apples in the story's closing sequence suggests that he did share the tale with her at some point.

How & Why Sofia Flees Russia At The End Of A Gentleman In Moscow

Sofia's one-way trip to america took careful planning.

Despite being a staunch patriot, Alexander is still of the opinion that Sofia would have a better life in America than she would if she were to stay in Russia. Thankfully, Alexander's spying on the country's top brass in A Gentleman in Moscow episode 7 , "An Assembly," also presents an opportunity for McGregor's character to send his daughter to safety. The scheme is carried out in collaboration with Alexander's American ally , Richard Vanderwhile, who plans the operation for them.

Only Sofia is granted asylum by the Americans, with Alexander telling his daughter that the request for himself and Anna to receive the same treatment was simply too much to ask.

With the recordings from the meeting in her possession, Sofia heads to Paris as part of a musical tour. After performing, she cuts her hair short and changes her clothes to blend in with the crowd and leaves without being spotted. The powers that be grow wise to her scheme, as they move her performance slot from before the interval to the penultimate position in the running order. Thankfully, Sofia still has just enough time and barely manages to avoid being detected. After arriving at the American embassy in Paris, Vanderwhile arranges for Sofia to be flown to the USA .

Where Alexander Rostov Stands With Osip Glebnikov At The End Of A Gentleman In Moscow

Alexander & osip exchange declarations of friendship.

Alexander's relationship with Osip Glebnikov is intentionally unclear throughout A Gentleman in Moscow . Although Osip is essentially responsible for making sure Alexander doesn't break the terms of his sentence by leaving the Metropol, Alexander's jailer chooses to spend more time with his prisoner than is necessary for him to perform his duties. They engage in etiquette lessons, debates about literature, and even start to watch movies together. However, it mostly seems as though Osip is forcing the interactions to take place. Despite the ambiguity of their arrangement, Osip admits in the finale that he values their relationship .

The story of Ewan McGregor's Alexander Rostov from A Gentleman in Moscow shares some strong parallels to that of the actor's Star Wars character.

While warning McGregor's character of the danger Sofia is in - and by extension, Alexander himself - Osip says, " I like you, Alexander. I think of you as a friend ." The count replies in his signature guarded style: " As do I you, in a manner of speaking ." Osip may not have been the most valued figure to Alexander in his day-to-day life, but their friendship offered both men a different perspective.

In addition, Osip also assisted Alexander return to the Metropol undetected following Sofia's trip to the hospital - an act that could have had both characters severely punished, if not killed.

Osip is also instrumental in making sure Anna departs for Finland without Alexander. By the time of "Adieu," Osip's wife and daughter are dead. So, Osip wants to make sure Alexander's family doesn't suffer the same fate.

Did Alexander Leave Manager Leplevsky To Die?

Alexander finally takes the revenge he's been trying to avoid.

Leplevsky is the biggest villain throughout the story of A Gentleman in Moscow , with Alexander's life at the Metropol Hotel becoming more difficult as his nemesis rises through the ranks. With Alexander's planned departure from the hotel imminent, it initially seems as though he's willing to let bygones be bygones and spare Leplevsky any acts of revenge. Unfortunately for the hotel manager, his last-minute discovery of Alexander's plan to escape results in McGregor needing to take action .

After arming himself with the dueling pistols from the manager's office, Alexander chains up Leplevsky in the bowels of the Metropol Hotel.

After arming himself with the dueling pistols from the manager's office, Alexander chains up Leplevsky in the bowels of the Metropol Hotel. At the same time, he incinerates the files the manager had been collating about the hotel's staff - Alexander and Sofia included. Leplevsky begs to be set free as Alexander departs , with the exchange between the two adversaries suggesting it would be a while before anyone finds the trapped hotel boss. So, while Alexander doesn't directly murder Manager Leplevsky, he could still be responsible for his death.

How Alexander's Imprisonment In The Metropol Hotel Was The Beginning Of His Life (Not The End)

Alexander rostov's personal life somehow flourished at the metropol.

When Alexander was sentenced to life imprisonment, he was in his early thirties. His only surviving family member was his grandmother, whom he had helped escape the country four years previously. In addition, he was estranged from Mishka - his oldest friend. Alexander had never married, nor fathered any children. Despite his life of wealth and privilege that had preceded his incarceration, he was deeply alone. Somewhat surprisingly, Alexander's decades trapped in the Metropol led to some of the most important relationships in his life .

Despite the early trauma of seeing Prince Nikolai being dragged out of the hotel to be shot in the street in A Gentleman in Moscow episode 1 , Alexander went on to hit a rich vein of social bonds. His friendship with Nina was vital during the early stages of his sentence, and although the pair struggled to stay on the same political wavelengths at times, their special relationship weathered the storm. Alexander also eventually managed to build bridges with Mishka .

Eventually, Alexander's on-and-off romantic dynamic with Anna Urbanova solidified into a solid foundation of love and trust, with the pair essentially becoming joint parents to Sofia.

If Alexander was a father figure to Nina, then he was essentially a grandfather in his role as generational caretaker when Sofia was left in the count's care. Alexander raised Sofia as his own , while making sure she never forgot her birth mother. Eventually, Alexander's on-and-off romantic dynamic with Anna Urbanova solidified into a solid foundation of love and trust, with the pair essentially becoming joint parents to Sofia. As a result, Alexander hit several milestones during his imprisonment that he either neglected or failed to achieve while he was a free man.

The Real Meaning Of A Gentleman In Moscow's Ending

Alexander's unconfirmed destiny compounds the story of love and loss.

A Gentleman in Moscow , like so many other stories, is about love. However, the show's theme of love is also tied into the concept of loss, and how the two interact with one another. The love that Alexander Rostov has for Anna and Sofia results in him putting their safety first , ensuring they are away from the Metropol Hotel and safely on their respective ways to their new homes at the time of him making his escape attempt.

Alexander Rostov's journey in A Gentleman in Moscow has been full of twists and turns, but the bees in episode 3 serve as a brilliant metaphor.

Alexander is fully aware of the risks to himself, Anna, and Sofia that their plan presents. Still, the love he has for his found family makes him willing to put himself in harm's way if it means there's a chance of a better tomorrow for the daughter he cherishes and the woman he loves. Osip acts in a similar vein by helping Alexander. Despite losing his wife and daughter, Osip chooses not to let his grief turn him bitter and instead makes sure Alexander doesn't suffer the same heartbreak.

Sofia's fantasy of her parents living out their days together is about as perfect an ending as the show can expect, with the unconfirmed nature of the scenario contributing to the dark beauty of the story's conclusion.

Sofia's fantasy of her parents living out their days together is about as perfect an ending as the show can expect , with the unconfirmed nature of the scenario contributing to the dark beauty of the story's conclusion. The trio would never have had the life they'd wanted in the building that brought the three of them together. Knowing this, they give their best effort to free themselves of the restrictions imposed upon them by Alexander's prison sentence. A Gentleman in Moscow 's final episode perfectly encapsulates the tale's message of sacrifice in the name of love.

How A Gentleman In Moscow's Ending Was Received

The final episode was praised by fans but some critized the sentimentality of the ending.

A Gentleman in Moscow's ending was one that could lead to somewhat of a mixed response among audiences. It was a bittersweet conclusion that saw a lot of triumphs and happy moments, but perhaps not the perfect conclusion for these characters that a lot of viewers had been hoping for throughout the 8 episodes. However, many fans on Reddit expressed satisfaction with the ending which they felt was in keeping with the feeling of the show. The ending also inspired theories about what the final moment with Alexander and Anna on a farm meant with Redditor jcapser suggesting:

With Sofia’s narration over the ending scene I think it could be a depiction of her imagination of how they ended up.

The overall response among fans was positive with the final episode earning the highest rating for the series on IMDb . However, there were some fans who felt the ending let down the rest of the series. User Limeginger left a review in which they praised the series' earlier episodes but felt that the show eventually became overcome with sentimentality, leading to a disappointing ending:

"It's that it began with great dignity, subtlety, and import and turned into a mediocre soap opera."

Indeed, some critics also felt that the series' sentimental aspects were too strong by the end of the story, hampering aspects of the finale. In a look at the final episode, The Daily Beast admitted that there were some emotionally affecting moments, such as Alexander and Sofia saying goodbye. However, they also described the finale as "saccharine" and felt that the final scene only works to " end the show on such a lackluster note ."
