Intake Manifold: Service and Repair Intake Manifold - Installation

LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD

1. Clean all sealing surfaces. 2. Position new gaskets and intake manifold on cylinder head surfaces. 3. Position the ignition coil capacitor and install the intake manifold bolts. Gradually tighten in sequence shown until a torque of 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.)

is obtained.

4. Install fuel rail and injectors as an assembly. 5. Connect fuel supply hose to fuel rail. 6. Connect heater supply and return hoses to the intake manifold. 7. Connect electrical connectors to fuel injectors and coolant temperature sensor. 8. Install upper intake manifold See: . 9. Connect upper radiator hose to thermostat housing.

10. Fill cooling system See: Cooling System/Service and Repair. 11. Connect negative battery cable See: Starting and Charging/Battery/Service and Repair/Procedures/Battery Reconnection.

INSTALLATION - UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD

1. Clean and inspect gasket sealing surfaces. 2. Position new gasket. 3. Install the throttle body on the upper intake (if required)See: Powertrain Management/Fuel Delivery and Air Induction/Throttle Body/Service and

Repair/Throttle Body - Installation.

4. Install upper intake manifold (2) and hand start all attaching bolts (1). 5. Tighten bolts gradually starting in the center working outward until a torque of 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.) is obtained. 6. Install the rear intake manifold brackets to the head.

RT6SPD, I was wondering the same thing. I'd like to pop my black plastic unit off and turn it into Hemi Orange. I can think of another question: What parts may be required like gaskets or O-rings? Bill  

I'm actually looking at doing the exact same thing. Going to maybe glossy black or, if i'm really bold and like cleaning a lot, stone white?

I have an extra intake "kit" on order. Seems they come with new seals and bolts when you order one. Supposed to ship around the 10th of next month. I'm intending to smooth it then have it painted Stone White to match the car. Tired of that ugly black thing.  

Guys, Thanks for the service information! Perfect!! The job sounds pretty straight forward. I would imagine the fuel line disconnect would take one of those special fuel line tools I haven't gotten around to getting yet but beyond that the job sounds reasonably simple. (I know I shouldn't have said that and will regret it later when I drop a bolt down an intake port or something equally stupid) Next problem: Will Chrysler's Hemi Orange engine paint stick to the composite intake? Bill

P2173 HIGH AIRFLOW/VACUUM LEAK DETECTED FIXED

My 2.4 liter 2013 with 80K got the P2173 HIGH AIRFLOW/VACUUM LEAK DETECTED (SLOW ACCUMULATION)

I ran a smoke test and no leaks from the intake or any hose, I replaced the Throttle body and the code return, I replaced the Mass sensor and the code return, I replaced the Brake booster and calibrated the Throttle body and the code return after 3 weeks, finally I decide to change the intake manifold gasket 2 months ago, so far it looks that is fixed for good, I found the old gasket was leaking between two cylinders thus the reason the smoke test did not work, to any one with this code I suggest to replace the gasket first, is only $6.00. The P2173 will put he car in limp mode and make it undriveable

I got the same code after installing new throttle body, could it be the gaskets on the manifold?  Is it a simple tasks to do or not ...

Lots of bolts on a expensive plastic intake housing, torque wrench required IMO.  Awkward back of the engine work, not simple.

Wouldn’t be my first choice to do that.

Did you use a new gasket with the throttle body change. I would start with changing that first if you didn’t. Make sure intake plastic snorkel is properly put together at all joints as well. Free advice worth everything you pay for it.

Is no hard to change it, maybe 2 hours, search for a video, is same as the Avenger or other Chrysler with same 2.4 engine, the code has no return after the fix.

Thanks buddys ..maybe i need to change that gasket on the manifold cause that same code keeps coming out n my lighting bolt /traction light comes on n disappear suddenly too.    Might just take it to mechanis n get better diagnostics on my 14dodgejourney 2.4L

mikecast what was the issue of your car? I have replaced throttle body and this code came on not sure what to do??
