cbd drinks

CBD drinks are trending right now, but which ones are actually worth buying?

They've officially entered the mainstream

If you haven’t tried CBD yet – or you’re still googling ‘what is CBD ?’ to try and work out how it’s different to cannabis – then perhaps now is the time? CBD drinks are everywhere – no longer seen as some hippy, wellness alternative to help you get high, CBD is mainstream.

In fact, the overload of CBD-infused products has hit so hard (it’s available in bath bombs and muscle rubs , dog treats, ice cream, sweets, and, yes, CBD drinks, too), that even marketers have struggled to find a fitting analogy. Chris Burggraeve, a former Coca-Cola and Ab InBev executive, called it the ‘ new avocado toast ’ in an interview with Business Insider – which we love, even if Avo toast seems *so* 2015.

Still confused as to what CBD drinks actually are? And which ones are worth parting with your ££ for? Here’s everything you need to know, and why they might just be the answer to living in such anxious times.

What are cbd drinks.

CBD drinks are infused with CBD (cannabidiol), the non-psychoactive element of hemp and cannabis plants. Cannabis in a drink? Sort of.

These drinks won’t make you have a ‘high’ like using traditional cannabis would (CBD does not make you stoned), as they don’t contain any THC, the mind-altering compound found in the cannabis plant. Instead, there is some evidence that says CBD drinks can have stress-busting and relaxation effects – especially since users describe CBD has like having a ‘body high’, as opposed to a mind-altering one.

What are the health benefits of CBD drinks?

While there’s still more research to be done on the benefits of CBD drinks, there are some studies that show a positive impact on sleep. A 2019 study showed that CBD drinks might aid sleep quality by promoting relaxation and decreasing insomnia, while some studies have also shown a link between consuming CBD drinks and feeling less stressed and anxious.

There’s also some evidence to suggest that CBD has anti-inflammatory properties, which may help with chronic pain, gut flare-ups and even skin conditions.

How many CBD drinks can I consume in a day?

Advice from the UK Food Standards Agency has recently been updated to suggest that the recommended CBD intake for adults should be reduced from 70mg per day to 10mg per day. Some drinks may have been infused with more or less than this amount of CBD, so it’s always worth checking the label to make sure you’re not doubling down on your dosage.

Where can I buy CBD drinks?

CBD drinks are more widely available than you’d think. They’re completely legal in the UK (as long as there’s no THC involved...) and you can even pick one up with your Tesco meal deal. We’ve spotted CBD drinks in Waitrose, Sainsbury’s Morrisons, Asda and pretty much all major UK supermarkets, as well as online retailers like Amazon. Health food and wellness shops are also a great place to find CBD drinks, from Holland & Barrett and Planet Organic more boutique offerings.

Do CBD drinks work?

There is some evidence to suggest that consuming CBD can be helpful for some conditions, including sleep disorders, chronic pain, multiple sclerosis and anxiety. However, more studies and general dosage standardisation are needed. If you find CBD eases some of your symptoms, it's worth keeping an eye on which dosages work for you. The best drinks will make the CBD dosage clear on the packaging.

Here, then, are Team WH’s fave CBD drinks to enjoy....

The best CBD drinks worth trying

Founded by a couple who found pre-wedding-stress respite in CBD oils, TRIP drinks are one of the most widely available CBD drinks in the UK. Their drinks are made in the UK using lab-tested CBD and come in a range of refreshing flavours. Our choice is the herbaceous lemon and basil drink.

Goodrays Natural CBD Blood Orange & Grapefruit Drink

Goodrays is all about celebrating what founder Eoin Keenan believes to be one of the most useful plants on the planet. The blood orange and grapefruit drink from the brand is just the right amount of zesty, and they're also fully committed to becoming carbon neutral, transparent in their supply chains and totally plastic-free.

Made using sustainably farmed hemp, Medahuman 's drinks are designed to provide respite from busy everyday life. The RELAX cans contain chamomile and black tea for flavour and magnesium, ashwagandha, L-theanine and other anxiety-busting elements to aid relaxation and stop tension in its tracks.

INTUNE Pomegranate & Ginger Sparkling CBD Drink

CBD drinks aren't just for chilling out at home or taking a moment to yourself in the office. INTUNE 's founder Hannah Glasson firmly believes a CBD drink has just as much of a place in your hand at a festival or late night gig. The Pomegranate & Ginger flavour has all the zing you need for a pick-me-up, while also containing 10mg of CBD for relaxation and focus.

Unrooted CBD Cucumber & Mint Shot

If your morning usually starts with a ginger shot, consider swapping it out for a refreshing cucumber and mint CBD shot from Unrooted . Made using African baobab fruit, which Unrooted makes all their drinks with and packs a punch with fibre, vitamin C and antioxidants, this little wonder shot promises stress relief and better sleep.

Gibsons Goodology 's CBD tea drinks are made with flavour at the forefront, and with a Michelin star flavour mixologist working behind the scenes, we're not surprised this tart yet gentle can is stupidly moreish. Their drinks are made with 25g of CBD, are triple lab tested and made with 100% natural ingredients.

Simplee says their drinks are made with 'all chill, zero nasties,' and we can see why. Their all-natural, fun-flavoured drinks are made with zero added sugars and only 33 calories. There's 15mg of CBD in each drink, and the wild berries flavour makes for a brilliant afternoon pick-me-up.

Zingy and refreshing, this raspberry coconut CBD drink from Little Rick is both delicious and calming. Low in calories, it only contains natural sweeteners and natural flavours – with 32mg of cannabidiol in each 330ml can.

Hip Pop Passionfruit & Guava CBD Kombucha

Combining two buzz-worthy elements, kombucha and CBD, this tangy drink from Hip Pop ticks a lot of boxes. The live cultures are good for your gut, it's low in calories and has a cool can design to boot. The stats? 1 billion live bacteria and 20mg of active CBD.

CBD is having a moment that shows no signs of ending anytime soon.

Since it first became legalised in the UK in November 2018, the number of products containing CBD has continued to grow and grow (if you’ll excuse the pun). First medicinal items, then supplements , gummies, oils , skincare , balms and finally drinks. It’s now possible to ingest CBD in pretty much any way you like.

Don’t fret about taking a sip and heading for the clouds: CBD won’t get you high. Instead, it’s loved around the world for its ability to ease pain, encourage relaxation and calm you down. Also touted for its ability to ease some epilepsy symptoms, CBD is constantly under review to see exactly what else it’s capable of doing.

Most of these drinks contain around 20-30mg of CBD, which is enough to give you a gentle feeling of serenity but won’t send you to sleep. Accentuated with varying herbs, roots, fruits and other ingredients, some of these drinks are also specifically targeted for different times of the day, helping you to focus first thing in the morning or switch off a little easier after work.

You’ll find the most popular brands sold all over from high street supermarkets to popular online retailers.

ADACT Medical is a leading authority in analysis, testing, compliance, regulation and research across a range of health-related fields including CBD, food and botanical supplements. Its founder, Chief Regulatory Officer and Scientific Advisor Damien Bové is a CBD expert. We reached out to find out more about the world of CBD drinks.

What is a CBD drink?

Bové explains, “CBD drinks are drinks made with CBD oil or a CBD extract. CBD is one of the chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant. But unlike another compound in cannabis – THC – CBD is not psychoactive and does not produce the same high as THC. CBD drinks are designed to be an easy and enjoyable way to consume CBD. These drinks come in various forms including sparkling water, sports drinks and teas”.

Do CBD drinks work?

“CBD has been well studied for its health properties”, he continues. “CBD drinks tend to have a lower concentration of CBD compared with some other products like pure CBD oil. However, the lower CBD content may be justified on the basis that nanotechnology is used in some CBD drinks to decrease particle size and make CBD more absorbable by the body. Research on absorption from nanoparticles is limited but one study found that lipid-based nanoparticles of CBD are better absorbed.”

What do CBD drinks do?

“Studies evaluating CBD have found that it contributes to mental health, reducing anxiety and stress , helping sleep and relieving inflammation and pain ”, reveals Bové. “CBD has been found to be effective for these health issues but it may be better to buy a quality CBD oil product with a known and labelled content of CBD.”

Are CBD drinks safe?

“Yes”, he says but adds “if you purchase a quality product with a known strength of CBD and no THC. The World Health Organisation’s 2018 Critical Review Report on CBD stated that, to date, there’s no evidence that the recreational use of CBD is harmful, or that there are any public health-related problems associated with its use. The FSA set an acceptable daily intake of 0.15mg/kg/body weight which equates to 10mg for a 70kg adult (for products with 98 per cent purity).

“CBD should be avoided by children under the age of 18 and pregnant and breastfeeding women. People taking medication should check with their doctors.”

Are CBD drinks legal?

“All CBD products in the UK are regulated as novel foods and must comply with safety and labelling regulations”, Bové details. “CBD is legal if it contains less than 1mg of THC in the final preparation (Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2010 (part C of regulation 2).”

Can you drive after CBD drink?

“There are no laws in the UK that prohibit taking CBD and driving. CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, meaning it is not intoxicating and does not make you drowsy. After taking CBD, you can safely drive, exercise or operate heavy machinery as long as you are fit to do so. It is best not to drive when taking CBD for the first time to find out how you feel. If the CBD you take contains too much THC (i.e. more than 1mg per container (vape cartridge or e-liquid bottle), this could cause you to fail a drug driving test.”

We’ve rounded up all of our favourite CBD drinks below.

Goodrays CBD Drinks Mixed Pack

trip or goodrays

Goodrays takes things one step further when it comes to CBD. As well as offering a few different flavours of delicious, CBD-infused drinks, the brand also produces gummies and oils .

Available in four flavours - Yuzu & Elderflower, Raspberry & Guava, Passionfruit & Pomelo and Blood Orange & Grapefruit - each drink comes with 30mg CBD (one of the higher doses found in these drinks) as well as vitamin D .

While these drinks taste a little stronger than other brands, they also offer a more impressive result, too. Fun packaging and a vegan, sustainable core make Goodrays one of our favourite CBD brands.

OTO CBD Botanical Seltzer Discovery

trip or goodrays

OTO's stylish, minimalist packaging is the first thing you'll notice about this CBD seltzer brand. If you've heard of OTO somewhere before, it's because it doesn't just produce drinks but also drops, skincare products and spa experience, sold as far and as wide as John Lewis, Selfridges and lookfantastic. The drinks are just as impressive as the rest of its product line-up, infusing CBD with three sparkling flavours that add a gentle buzz to your day. Green Tea & Garden Mint is our favourite.

TRIP Lemon Basil CBD Drink

trip or goodrays

TRIP is one of the best CBD brands to fall in love with as it's stocked in possibly the most places out of any brand in the sphere. This is very convenient, as it's also one of the most delicious options around. While most of TRIP's drinks tend to focus on light, fruity flavours, you'll also find the TRIP Cold Brew : coffee infused with CBD providing all of the energy but none of the jitters. With 15mg of CBD per can, it's a great option to sample first if you're new to CBD drinks or if you're sensitive to trying new ingredients.

Buy a 12-pack for £24.

Unrooted CBD 20mg Drink Cool & Calm

trip or goodrays

Unrooted takes things back to basics with a delicious CBD shot that gets the job done quickly. With 20mg of CBD per shot, it's not the strongest option out there but provides a great boost of calm energy to help you through the day.

Adults are recommended to have no more than 70mg of CBD per day, so you could feasibly stock up on a few of these without going over the suggested limit if need be. Flavoured with cucumber, mint and baobab fruit powder, this CBD drink is also a great source of fibre and, if that wasn't enough, each bottle sold helps to support rural Zimbabwean communities.

Medahuman Cranberry & Lime CBD Energy Drink

trip or goodrays

Medahuman steps things up a notch with a line of CBD drinks that each work a little differently. While the core element remains the same, the brand cleverly incorporates differing ingredients to encourage different effects. The result? A line of drinks that works for every occasion.

Looking for a gentle burst of energy? Choose the brand's Cranberry and Lime made with Vitamin B & C, natural caffeine and ginseng. Searching for the opposite? The Ginger, Blood Orange and Turmeric CBD Recover drink is ideal post-workout or later in the afternoon when you're thinking about winding down for the day.

Buy a 12-pack for £27.

Drink 420 CBD Infused Wild Berries

trip or goodrays

Drink 420 makes the kind of drinks you'd pick up and enjoy regardless of their CBD content. Good enough to drink on a daily basis without even considering the health benefits, the biggest problem you'll have with these CBD drinks is limiting yourself so as to not exceed the recommended dosage each day.

With stronger fruit flavours and a more subtle CBD flavour than many other competing brands, these fizzy, low-calorie drinks promise to quickly become a contender for your new favourite soft drink.

EXALT Chilled AF Cold-Pressed Fruit Juice with CBD

trip or goodrays

There's no doubt about it: EXALT's Chilled AF CBD drinks are definitely up there with the most wonderful tasting around. That's especially true if you're someone who would rather ingest their CBD without tasting it, as this drink's strong, fruit flavours could easily fool you into thinking it's just another fruit juice.

Combining orange, mango and pineapple with cold-pressed ginger, lime and basil, it's one of the freshest and tastiest CBD options around. While it only features 15mg CBD, it's made using water-soluble CBD, which is 10 times more bioavailable than normal CBD oil.

INTUNE Elderflower Sparkling CBD Drink

trip or goodrays

INTUNE's award-winning drinks are sourced from premium CBD and offer a grounding, focusing effect when that post-lunch slump hits.

The drink marries 10mg of CBD with a sparkling elderflower accent, but there are many more flavours to choose from. An alcohol-free alternative to a classic spritz, the tipple is suitable for vegans and makes for a sophisticated cocktail mixer.

Price for four cans. Also available in a mixed variety pack on Amazon .

Little Rick Mix Pack

trip or goodrays

Little Rick's CBD drinks are what we'd best describe as "alcohol-free grown-up drinks". The sort of thing you'd pick up in place of a beer on a weekday evening to enjoy while watching Netflix, these cans are just as chilled out as the label suggests.

That's something you'll appreciate more than usual here too, as each of Little Rick's cans contains 32mg of CBD - higher than pretty much any other brand on the market. If you're looking for a hefty boost of CBD in one can, this is the brand to opt for. Each flavour - Mint & Lime, Raspberry Lemonade and Piña - offers a soft yet noticeable feeling of relaxation.

With so many incredible flavours out there, it’s no easy feat to choose one favourite. But, if we had to pick, we’d opt for Goodrays CBD Drinks Mixed Pack : with just the right amount of buzz and a unique flavour to match, this one will remain a staple in our fridge from now on.

The best CBD sparkling drinks, tried and tasted

Stress-busting, anxiety-reducing, or just great-tasting? We put the latest CBD cans to the test

CBD drinks

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past few months, the chances are you’ll have heard something about CBD, or cannabidiol to give it its full name, and the drinks products that contain it. Even the Queen's farm shop in Windsor, indeed, sold out of the version it stocks earlier this year .

CBD comes from the cannabis plant, the buds of which are dried to make marijuana. It is one of many compounds found in the plant but unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD is not psychoactive; it won’t get you ‘high’ and thus is completely legal.

Even so, studies claim the effectiveness of CBD in providing relief from anxiety, PTSD, and muscle pain. It may also promote weight loss, help you feel calmer, and may even work as an anti-inflammatory. Research so far has been limited, but is growing, and its proponents are positive about the findings.

The compound has certainly caught the public imagination. Visit any health shop and you’ll find CBD oils, lotions, supplements and even sexual lubricants. Unsurprisingly, CBD-infused food and beverages are on the rise, too, often sold under health-food branding (although in the UK, drinks manufacturers are not allowed to make health claims so this is often only implied).

Here CBD presents a challenge for producers. The substance has a naturally bitter taste, so many of the products made with it are stuffed full of sugar, or more often Stevia, in order to make them palatable. It’s also worth noting that a study from the British Medical Journal found that many CBD products actually contain far less of the compound than they claim, so you may not be getting enough to feel any of the advertised effects.

The key, then, if you're going to part with good money, is how good a CBD product tastes. I taste-tested a range of CBD-infused sparkling waters to find the best. And while, admittedly, I did feel relaxed and cheerful while doing so, it’s hard to say whether this was as a result of the CBD – or merely because undertaking such a task is a rather a enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.

The results

Green monkey .

10mg CBD; £17.99 for 12 x 250ml cans, greenmonkey.co.uk

Claiming to be the UK’s first carbonated CBD drink, Green Monkey comes in two flavours, Original (a blend of pineapple, yuzu and orange) and Berry Burst; neither is particularly strong. The Original displays more of the distinctive CBD bitterness but both are light and sippable. That bitter element does make them less refreshing than a more classic flavoured water; I might use them in place of tonic with a nice gin.

Taste test score: 5/10

Mellow Moose

10mg CBD; £15 for 12 x 250ml cans, glenaffricbrewery.com

Sugar-free and lightly spritzy, I found Mellow Moose quite tasty. There are a variety of flavours, each a different colour (Mixed Berry bright pink while Tropical is faintly orange); though while they might look a lot like a fizzy pop, the taste is more akin to flavoured water. Watermelon was my favourite, with its very gentle taste that lingered on the tongue. I can see myself sipping all three, however, at a summer garden party.

Taste test score: 7/10

20mg CBD; £30 for 12 x 250ml cans, medahuman.com

You do certainly taste the bitterness from the higher levels of CBD, but the different flavours counteract it in various ways. I really enjoyed the cranberry and lime option, dubbed ‘Energy’, which oddly smells a lot like pancake batter; its sharp tangy tones balance out the bitterness from the CBD, creating a solid, well-rounded drink. This version is also caffeinated, worth knowing for those looking for a more refreshing alternative to their morning coffee. In ‘Night’, a sour cherry and hibiscus offering, the natural flavours aren’t strong enough to contend with the bitterness of the CBD, which leaves a slightly unpleasant aftertaste.

Taste test score: 6/10

Rebelicious Drinks

15mg CBD; £31 for 12 cans, rebeliciousdrinks.co.uk

Coming in Cream Soda and Cola variants, Rebelicious’ drinks are very good indeed. The Cola tastes very fresh and sweet, without the syrupy heaviness of the world’s most famous cola brands. The Cream Soda option was my favourite drink in this test, very sweet but smooth and light, perfect to drink on a hot day. There’s just a hint of bitterness in both, but unlike some of the other drinks I tasted, this works to round out the taste, making them richer and fuller than non-CBD options.

Taste test score: 9/10

15mg CBD; £14 for six cans, drink-trip.com

The flavours of Trip’s trio of CBD drinks are really strong. Elderflower and Mint is very botanical, the herb powerful to the point or drowning out the elderflower. It was refreshing, but better for use in a mint julep cocktail than just to sip. Peach and ginger was perfectly pleasant, though the lightness of the peach doesn't manage to cover up the bitter taste of the CBD. Lemon and basil was far too powerful for my taste; I felt like I was inhaling a jar of mixed herbs.

Taste test score:  6/10

25mg CBD; £31.20 for 12 cans, otocbd.com

Not only do OTO’s drinks contain the second most CBD of the selection I tasted, but they also deliver the most complex flavours. Korean sencha, mint, and campot pepper is very smooth, just lightly sparkling, but very sippable. It has just a hint of bitterness in the aftertaste. My preferred flavour is bitter orange, goji berry and habanero chilli, which tastes savoury and almost bread-like, and I found the chilli lifts some of the bitterness from the CBD to create a delicious, sophisticated drink.

Taste test score: 8/10

30mg CBD; £29.95 for 12 cans, goodrays.com

Featuring a pretty hefty amount of CBD per can, Goodrays is a pretty punchy drink, though I'm not entirely convinced the flavours (elderflower and yuzu or raspberry and guava) are quite strong enough to fend off the characteristic CBD bitterness. The sweetness of the yuzu in the former takes some of the sting out of CBD's taste, but the raspberry and guava flavour isn't nearly strong enough. That's not to say they taste awful. I quite liked both and could see myself pairing them with a very light gin liqueur, but there's a distinct aftertaste which lingers in the back of your mouth.

The Battle for the CBD Can: Trip Drinks, Goodrays or Simply CBD by MightyMe?

LAST UPDATED: July 3, 2024 | CBD Drinks, CBD Cans

CBD Infused Drinks

CBD drinks have exploded onto the UK market at some pace.  One day, they were nowhere. And now, they are everywhere. TRIP Drinks, Goodrays, Medahuman, the list seems to be endless. There are even Trip Drinks adverts on the London Underground, in WHSmith and even CBD drinks in Tescos. In this day and age, things change quickly.

Testament to their rise is a report 2021 by the Association for the Cannabinoid Industry that found the UK’s CBD market to be valued at £690 million.

That’s a growth of more than double in just two years! When you talk about the global CBD drink industry, one study found the CBD drinks market – valued at 2.83 billion USD in 2021 – is predicted to reach the value of almost $9 billion by 2029. Now that, my friends, is fast!

pexels photo 9629943

And you may now be wondering, what are our favourite CBD can drinks?

At MightyMe, you might have guessed, we like making our own CBD drinks .  So, not strictly a can, more your favourite mug.  In fact, much more sustainable.  But as far as we’re concerned, rather than opting for Trip drinks or Goodrays’ drinks, there’s something simple about using your own beloved recipes whilst still taking a dose of CBD.

Because our water-soluble CBD is almost completely tasteless, it can be added to anything without you noticing. Perhaps pop it next to the kettle, so when you’re making your morning cuppa or coffee. That way it’s easy to remember and easy to add.

Highcompressed 251477192

However, there are still some fantastic CBD drinks on the market in the UK. Sure, the majority of them only offer a 15mg dose of CBD (in comparison to 20mg with MightyMe) but whether its from Trip CBD

Drinks to Goodrays’ CBD drinks to CBD gin and tonics, there are some delicious options for you to enjoy. But once again, we’ll remind you, there’s nothing like an affordable CBD addition to your favourite customised drinks. Nevertheless, let’s explore the best CBD drinks UK.

Trip Drink

Trip drink are one of the UK’s biggest and brightest new CBD companies. You’ve probably seen their hangxiety adverts in a bus stop or their simple but attractive can branding in Tescos or another supermarket.

And there’s a reason they’re popular. Trip CBD drinks offer some great flavours (elderflower mint is our favourite) which cost only £2 a can, there’s no added sugar and its less than 20 calories. So, as a Trip CBD drinks review, give them a shot.

trip

Goodrays CBD drinks are Trip CBD drinks’ key competitor – in fact, they were the first launched in the UK. Some bright and tropical flavours like raspberry and guava are supplemented by 30mg servings in each, which is seriously great value considering Trip CBD drinks’ only offer 15mg per can.

Plus they only work out at less than £3 a can and you can buy their product in major supermarkets. One thing’s for sure – if you fancy a fruity CBD drink Goodrays are a great option.

goos

Medahuman  are one of the new kids on the block. Not only are their cans swanky and clean-looking, the drinks themselves delicious, each can contains nutrients, adaptogens and nootropics as well as CBD.

The addition of ingredients like turmeric and even valerian root show that Medahuman really listen to the wellness experts out there and want to take care of their customers.

meda

INTUNE  are a London-based brand with some great flavours like the delicious pomegranate and ginger CBD drink. They’re refreshing, lightly sparkling and fruity and in short, perfect for a summer’s day.

While they only include 10mg CBD and still cost over £2 a can, it’s a great option. Especially as some CBD is better than none.

intune

Calm Drinks

Calm Drinks  really do what they say on the tin. Rather than opting for fancy flavours like Trip CBD drinks and Goodrays CBD drinks, why complicate things? That’s why the simple flavours like cola, lemon & lime, orange and mixed berry make so much sense!

Why stress about the presence of yuzu when you can drink flavours you know and love. They even do CBD coffee and other options like CBD gummies too!

Calm Drinks range front

Exalt Drinks

Another we like, and though its not a soda, is EXALT Drinks and their Chilled AF CBD range. Their best flavour is the delicious orange, mango and pineapple with cold-pressed ginger, lime and basil juice combination does wonders for the sense.

It may only have 15mg CBD inside, but because it’s made using water-soluble CBD, its onset is quicker – and as above, more effective.

chill

Inspirited

Inspirited  offer something a little different to CBD in a can. That’s because this CBD is in a bottle, of GIN! This light and citrusy gin – the Chiron – is perfect for creating CBD cocktails with a delightful infusion of botanicals works in perfect harmony with the CBD.

The traditional London gin also has a great name. It was inspired by the centaur Chiron, famed for his wisdom and knowledge of healing. Now that’s what CBD is all about!

However, if you don’t just want CBD gin, they offer a bunch of different options too. If you’re looking further Muhu ’s sweet hibiscus gin (40% ABV) with added CBD is also delicious, as well as a new string of CBD beers like Cannabrew. In this day and age, everything’s possible.

inspi

You can buy most of these at major retailers including getting CBD drinks from Tesco and buying C BD drinks from Sainsbury’s . Everyone’s favourite health and wellness retailer, Holland & Barrett sells CBD drinks too.

But trust us, it’s always easier to make your own drink with Mighty Me. As far as we’re concerned, why not make your own customised, affordable and delicious CBD drink without the hassle of heading to the shop. Check out this table for a little more information.

2 1

And, without further ado, here’s a few other ways you can add your daily CBD dose to make the perfect CBD drink, for inspiration.

So you want to get your day off to a great start? Have a look at our own version of the Hailey Bieber Smoothie CBD Edible Recipe . Maybe you saw it when Hailey Bieber partnered with an American supermarket chain to launch a new smoothie drink. Yeah, it went viral on TikTok . In typical Hollywood style, some ingredients are pretty hard to find so we created with a recipe you can use with everyday items. Oh, and with MightyMe too!

CBD Cocktail and gin cocktail recipes

CBD drinks?

BrassicaBabe · 09/07/2023 14:54

What are they like? Are they worth it? Curious. But they are quite pricey to buy on a whim. Thanks!

I bought some in Sainsbury's. They tasted really good, a bit like a gin and tonic, not particularly sweet. But after drinking two of them I was completely stoned, so you don't need many!

Tried one, couldn't even get a third the way through the little can. Tasted foul.

Thank you! Anyone else from the weekday crowd?

Trip has 15mgs, nice a hour before bed, the basil one tastes like grass though. For a hellish day goodrays is 30 mgs. You will even feel better the next day, I wish I had known about them sooner, much better than reaching for a glass of wine on one of those days.

I bought a four pack of the pink one, had a couple, did nothing but I’m struggling to sleep at the moment so will try the hour before bed tip.

It's weird....I don't think twice about grabbing a glass of wine if I'm stressed. But these drinks feel weird 🤣 Then again, I'm hoping that maybe these can be a nice substitute for grabbing a glass of wine 🤷‍♀️

I’ve started buying them as part of my meal deal from the Co-op and saving them up for the weekend. Tryp has 15mgs. The peach and ginger one tastes really nice. They don’t get me stoned it’s more a calm feeling/ relaxed but without the munchies. 27 calories a can.

Had some Parachute brand ones, taste quite nice - not too sweet, but get nothing off them at all. But then I seem to not get anything of anything (apart from alcohol) so I'm probably not the right person to ask

I love the ginger and peach one. I drink them instead of alcohol if I'm driving. I order them from Trip in packs of 24 and have had discount codes which make them cheaper still. They feel like a G&T if you pour them over ice. Very refreshing too.

BrassicaBabe · 10/07/2023 10:51

It's a strange one, I ration these out as they are an expensive treat, I wonder why I can't exert the same over the Saturday night bottle of wine...😂

I love them. My favourite is the trip elderflower and mint. They are a good alternative to wine or gin and taste great over ice. I’ve never felt stoned off them.

@Badbudgeter your coop is more progressive than mine 🤣 Ooh, I wonder what they are like with gin 🤣

Love them. Think the max you're supposed to have per day is 45 or 60pmg I forget. Goodrays says 30mg but I felt a better "buzz" from the Trip which says 15mg (but premium apparently). Perfect replacement to a wine at night, 1 or 2 as a treat. They retail approx £6.50 for 4 cans so not too much, certainly cheaper or at least equivalent to a wine. And at least you don't have to open a whole bottle.

Can I ask a stupid question?would they show up on a drugs test at work?

Well Trip was a waste of time/money. Even two. So I guess the Goodrays ones at 30mg won't make a difference. What am I missing?!!

Goodrays CBD Drinks and Gummies Review (Paleo, Sugar-Free, Vegan)

trip or goodrays

First of all, I just want to say a massive thank you to Goodrays but also an even bigger SORRY to them too because these fantastically designed Goodrays CBD drinks and gummies have been sitting gathering dust waiting for me to find the time to crack them open and review them. Goodrays have honestly been absolute stars about it and had the patience of 10 million saints. So, thank you guys you absolutely rock! But, you know what they say – good things come to those who wait.

Disclaimer: Please note that this is a sponsored post and I have received monetary payment. I have been gifted products and compensated in return for an honest review. Any payment I receive goes to paying expenses, to keeping a roof over my head and this blog up and running, and most importantly to keep creating quality content for you all. You might’ve noticed that I haven’t posted in a long time. In fact, this is my first blog post since November 2021, and I haven’t reviewed any CBD products since April 2021. So, this blog post is a bit special to me because I’m finally back to doing something I’m super passionate about. You might also be wondering why the gigantic silence.

Well, I started working officially for Ninja Kitchen as a freelance Food Stylist and Photographer, and whilst the job is absolutely amazing, and so are the people I work with, juggling self-employment and home life as a single parent has definitely become beyond gruelling. I also lost a couple of regular clients due to the strain covid placed on small businesses so I had less to post in general. And I guess I just sort of lost faith in my abilities.

So, this year I am determined to endeavour to bring you guys the new and exciting content that you deserve. I would like to thank all the people that have still stuck by me over the years and apologise for what became a much bigger hiatus than I had ever expected it to be. But anyway, I digress… I think it’s time to get to know exactly who Goodrays are (other than the most understanding company ever) and why you guys need them in your life (and your belly)…

trip or goodrays

So, Who Are Goodrays?

Founded by Eoin Keenan and Chris Kelly in early 2020, Goodrays are super committed to creating premium, all-natural products made from high-quality ingredients, including rigorously tested cannabinoids and vitamins, to ensure that their customers have the opportunity to experience – in my opinion – some of the best CBD products currently available on the UK market (more on this later).

Eoin has had a keen interest in cannabis legislation for way over a decade, and in order to aid new cannabis ventures and push forward regulatory change across the globe he has been working with the industry-leading consultants, Prohibition Partners and Cannabis Europa . Goodrays are also incredibly into sustainability – working to become carbon neutral, is fully transparent in their supply chain, and they use plastic-free packaging too. What’s not to love about these guys?!

If you’d like to find out more about Goodrays, or just look at Eoin’s cute little smiley face, then click here .

What Is CBD and How Can It Help Me?

Because I haven’t posted in a while, and because I know some of you are new to my site, I think it’s worth explaining what CBD is. CBD, a.k.a. Cannabidiol , is a naturally occurring cannabinoid. In Layman’s terms, cannabinoids are compounds that are the active components of cannabis. CBD isn’t psychoactive like THC, as in – it won’t get you high. And want to know something super cool? Our bodies produce their own endogenous cannabinoids, endogenous cannabinoid receptors, and enzymes. These 3 elements make up the Endocannabinoid System   (ECS).

It wasn’t until the late 80s that the ECS was discovered by scientists. They found that the ECS continuously maintains a balance at a cellular level within the body (this balance is known as homeostasis) and is, in fact, active in every human being – from before birth until the end of life itself. This clever little biological system is responsible for controlling energy intake, nutrient transportation, and metabolism storage –  it even regulates your brain, organ, and musculoskeletal functions. Basically, it’s responsible for a lot of cool stuff that keeps you alive. Want to know what’s even cooler? Your body actually knows how and when to make cannabinoids. But, for some unlucky people, their ECS doesn’t work properly and so it struggles to self-regulate. The end result is ultimately a deficiency in endocannabinoids.

CBD is also an excellent anti-inflammatory that doesn’t come with the same risks or side effects that regular NSAIDs (aspirin, diclofenac, ibuprofen etc.) do, such as; ulcers, heart attacks, and strokes. This makes it really useful for chronic pain management…

This deficiency can lead to you experiencing pain where you shouldn’t have pain, anxiety, obesity, and a whole host of problems. In fact, a number of common diseases are often linked to a deficiency of endocannabinoids, particularly those with no identifiable cause, including hyperalgesic ones – those with increased sensitivity to pain that is out of proportion to what is going on within the body. We’re talking about things such as migraines, IBS, fibromyalgia and inflammatory and immune disorders.

Now, this is where CBD comes in handy. CBD is a homeostatic regulator which balances the ECS. Homeostasis, as I mentioned before, is a state of balance within your body and lots of diseases can interfere with this balance. CBD acts as a buffer so that it can combat both deficiencies (and vice versa) within the ECS itself. For example, if you find yourself anxious or depressed your body is likely to be deficient in the neurotransmitter GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid) . CBD will interact with the GABA receptor and amplify GABA’s natural calming effect. Again CBD can activate the serotonin receptor 5-HT1A (serotonin is the stuff that makes you happy) and again, induce a calming effect. Personally, I have found CBD incredibly helpful for this.

CBD is also an excellent anti-inflammatory that doesn’t come with the same risks or side effects that regular NSAIDs (aspirin, diclofenac, ibuprofen etc.) do, such as; ulcers, heart attacks, and strokes. This makes it really useful for chronic pain management and as an autoimmune disease sufferer, I can vouch for its effectiveness myself. Its anti-inflammatory properties also make it great for post-workout recovery so if you’re an amateur or even pro athlete you’re bound to find some benefits from it.

If you’re looking to improve or address health conditions, it’s worth noting that less is often more with CBD, as the more you have the more resistance your body will build to it and it can become less effective in the long run. Just because you don’t feel instant results, doesn’t mean it’s not working for you, it just takes time to find the right dose and to build up the cannabinoid levels in your body which is a different experience for different people. And if you’re not deficient in cannabinoids, or you partake in a lot of smoking of the devil’s lettuce, you might find it doesn’t do much for you at all. I’ve written more information about dosage here . So the Goodrays gummies would be great for regular dosing if you halved them, but not so much the drinks. If however, you’re in severe pain or having an anxiety attack, high doses can be beneficial in those situations. If you are looking for a way to control your own dosage it’s worth knowing that Goodrays also stock CBD oils too.

Goodrays CBD Drinks Review

So now that you know a little bit about what CBD is and about the company itself I think it’s time to explore its amazing product line. Starting with the very delicious all-natural and vegan sparkling CBD drinks line – with no gluten, added sugar, or artificial flavourings. That’s right you heard me – no added bullshit whatsoever! If you’ve had CBD oil before you’ll know it’s bitter as hell and the majority of companies’ CBD drinks are often laden with refined sugars, artificial sweeteners and flavourings. But not Goodrays, oh no, they will not do that shit to you, because they actually care about your health, and boy do they know how to make something so horrendous taste so fucking amazing. And that’s not an exaggeration. No 3-day-old bong water taste – just absolute deliciousness.

Let’s Talk Functionality

What really impressed me about the Goodrays CBD drinks range was the innovative addition of 5mcg of vitamin D3 to every can, which is 33% of your RDA. I’ve seen adaptogens being added and all sorts of things, but not really vitamin D, especially not across an entire drinks range. And why is that so impressive? Well, because in the UK we don’t get enough sunlight to make our own. As a result, we are often deficient. So, supplementation, especially in the autumn/winter months, is imperative. Vitamin D helps to support all kinds of things – from your immune system to regulating insulin levels and supporting heart and lung health. But the biggie for me is that it plays a huge part in the quality of your mental health, especially if you suffer from SAD ( Seasonal Affective Disorder ). I won’t go into any detail but you can read more about that here if you’re interested. For all of the reasons I listed above, vitamin D compliments CBD so unbelievably well.

You can still drive, you can still function, but ultimately you’ll feel hella relaxed. Goodrays CBD Drinks ooze a straight-up, chilled vibe. Plus you’ll have zero hangovers to contend with in the morning – bonus!

These drinks are definitely perfect as an alternative to alcohol. You feel an instant wave of relaxation, maximum effects being felt within 20-25 minutes of consumption, and it’s like the sensation of having an alcoholic drink without being inebriated or losing your inhibitions. You can still drive, you can still function, but ultimately you’ll feel hella relaxed. Goodrays CBD Drinks ooze a straight-up, chilled vibe. Plus you’ll have zero hangovers to contend with in the morning – bonus!

trip or goodrays

Goodrays actually has the highest CBD content in their drinks that I’ve ever seen in the UK – a whopping 30mg of CBD isolate. When using isolate, a high concentration is more critical than if the product contained say, liposomal CBD. This is because liposomal CBD has a higher absorption rate than isolate does. Liposomal CBD is essentially CBD that has been encased in very tiny, fat-like particles. This allows the CBD to pass straight into cells, crossing the blood-brain barrier and nourishing cell membranes which is why it is so fast-acting and often has similarly rapid effects close to vaping.

However, as with any ingestable product, there will be a delay in absorption so a higher dose is essential in order to yield almost immediate results. You also absorb less into your bloodstream when you ingest CBD oils or isolate rather than when you vape or administer it sublingually (under the tongue).  As far as I can see these drinks are marketed as a way to offer the consumer almost instantaneous relaxation. They aren’t for someone looking to balance out health issues by utilising regular micro dosing or playing with titration. They’re for someone looking for an immediate chill effect – so it’s not hard to see why that high dosage is a no-brainer.

So that’s my 2p on a product with such a high CBD content. But here’s what Goodrays have to say about it:

We did a lot of research, swallowed a lot of CBD at various doses and spoke to some very clever scientists about effectiveness to discover that the minimum dose for an average adult to feel the effect of CBD is around 25mg in a liquid solution. We add 30mg of CBD to each can of Goodrays to ensure all our consumers feel the relaxing effects of each can and get the full benefits of this amazing compound.

For those that don’t know, CBD isolate is cannabidiol in its purest form, isolated from all other cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. It’s often available at 99% purity and using isolate will reduce manufacturing costs greatly, making it easier to offer a higher dosage within a product at a lower cost to the consumer. It can often be seen as a lesser form of CBD because of this, but to me, it just makes sense in an edible product as isolate has practically no flavour or smell to it. Like I said before, this isn’t meant for supplementation but rather, enjoyment. Although having said that, I can see ‘Cannabis Extract’ listed as an ingredient in the natural flavours list for 2 of the flavours, and in another 2 ‘Hemp Extract’ is listed as a sole ingredient. So, I’ll have to find out exactly what that means because you can definitely taste a slight bitterness. This brings me to the next section of my review…

Let’s Talk Flava Flav Baby

No, not the rapper, although what’s not to love about Flava Flav and his awesome giant alarm clock necklace? Or Public Enemy in general… But yeah, let’s get back to Goodrays and talk about how these little tinnies of juiciness taste. For starters, they’re available in the 4 following fruity flavours; Blood Orange & Grapefruit , Elderflower & Yuzu , Guava & Raspberry , and Passionfruit & Pomelo .

Now, I’m an absolute sucker for any exotic fruit flavour, so when I opened up the box to see all of those I was beyond ridiculously excited. And I tell you now, I was far from disappointed.

Goodrays Sparkling Blood Orange & Grapefruit CBD Drink (250ml), 6 pack for £17.99

I love a bit of blood orange juice, although this was definitely slightly more grapefruit in flavour than blood orange. Not very sweet, but not too bitter either. I couldn’t taste CBD, and the edition of the citric and tartaric acid was cleverly utilised. It both smelled and tasted exactly like blood orange and grapefruit which was amazing, it was a very uplifting, summery little drink. I was left craving this one post-workout – I can’t tell you exactly why that was, maybe because of the citrus. But anyway, it hit all the right spots and was a firm favourite of mine.

Ingredients: Sparkling Water, Juice From Concentrate (Grape 4% and Lemon 0.5%), Natural Flavours (Grapefruit, Blood Orange, Tangerine), Acid: Citric and Tartaric, Acidity Regulator: Sodium Citrate, CBD Isolate 30mg (Contains Soya) Preservative: Potassium Sorbate and Sodium Benzoate, Natural Colours, Hemp Extract, and Vitamin D3 5mcg.

Nutrition: Kcal: 36 | Carbs: 7.8g | Sugars 5.6g

Goodrays Sparkling Elderflower & Yuzu CBD Drink (250ml), 6 pack for £17.99

In my opinion, this was the smartest of the flavour combos as both flavours have the ability to disguise the bitterness of the CBD – very delicate floral elderflower and the tartness of the yuzu work so well together. I would have liked to have seen both amped up a little more as they were quite subtle and almost too watery, but a clever and unexpected combo nonetheless. The addition of grape juice also helped provide the sweetness that was needed without having to use any sugars or sweeteners.

Personally, I think that this would make the most perfect summer’s day drink. Just give me a little more flavour and I’ll be a very happy lady, especially as when I was a kid elderflower cordial was one of my favourite drinks. It’s a kind of timeless flavour and the yuzu just gave it that modern edge.

Ingredients: Sparkling Water, Grape Juice, Natural Flavours (Yuzu, Elderflower, Cannabis Extract), Citric Acid, CBD Isolate 30mg, Natural Colour (Concentrate of Carrot, Safflower and Apple), and Vitamin D 5mcg.

Nutrition: Kcal: 33.8 | Carbs: 7.2g | Sugars 5.2g

Goodrays Sparkling Guava & Raspberry CBD Drink (250ml), 6 pack for £17.99

Initially, this was my least favourite of all the flavours, but it grew on me a little. My eldest daughter found this one to be her favourite. It starts off very guava but ends more raspberry. You’re sort of hit with mild acidity at first (happy to see malic acid included over citric acid) followed by the bitterness of the CBD. It’s not unpleasant but it does sort of linger. This was my least favourite of the 4 and I think it’s because it required more of a naturally bitter, yet acidic flavour like the other 3 citrus combos. That way, the bitterness would seem less artificial. I can’t put my finger on it but it was like drinking 2 very sweet but not particularly acidic or bitter flavours and for some reason, it just doesn’t work as well as the others.

Having said all of that, it was still a really gorgeous drink but the bitter aftertaste was a lot more noticeable than the other drinks so I felt let down. This is the kind of drink to enjoy whilst I’m laying in a candlelit bubble bath, watching Netflix because… that’s how I roll. (It’s not, I don’t have the luxury of that kind of time.)

Ingredients: Sparkling Water, Grape Juice, Natural Flavours (Raspberry, Guava, Cannabis Extract), Citric Acid, CBD Isolate 30mg, Natural Colour (Concentrate of Carrot, Safflower and Apple), and Vitamin D 5mcg.

trip or goodrays

Goodrays Sparkling Passionfruit & Pomelo CBD Drink (250ml), 6 pack for £17.99

This was the sweetest of all the flavours and definitely more passionfruit than pomelo. If you’ve never had a pomelo before it’s very much like a milder version of a grapefruit and is actually a hybrid of an orange and a grapefruit – which sums up the flavour well. It’s a household favourite and my kids will literally fight to the death over a pomelo (no joke!), to be honest so would I if they weren’t my kids.

Hands down, this was definitely my favourite flavour. It even smelt like passionfruit and pomelo. I couldn’t taste any bitterness and I think the subtle addition of pineapple in there really helped. It just made me feel comforted and I wanted to be sat on a beach with a cooler full of these things. Sadly I was just sat at my computer, in a dark room… writing this for you guys. But at least I had a very yummy drink.

Ingredients: Sparkling Water, Juice From Concentrate (Grape 4% and Pineapple 0.5%), Natural Flavours (Passionfruit, Pineapple, Pomelo), Acid: Citric and Lactic, CBD Isolate 30mg (Contains Soya) Preservative: Potassium Sorbate and Sodium Benzoate, Acidity Regulator: Sodium Citrate, Natural colouring (concentrate of safflower, lemon, carrot and apple.), Hemp Extract, and Vitamin D3 5mcg.

trip or goodrays

The great thing is if you’re undecided about which flavour to try you can pick up a mixed box of 4 cans for £11.95 . I love that Goodrays has this option as a lot of the time you’re tied into purchasing at least 12 cans from other brands which can seem like a really big upfront cost for something you don’t even know if you’ll like enough.

So, overall – 10/10 for this drinks range. I couldn’t be more impressed! These are definitely going to be something that I’ll be buying again for my own personal enjoyment. Although I don’t drink alcohol myself particularly, I usually recommend to my alcohol-drinking friends CBD drinks to use as pre-made mixers in order to reduce the likelihood of a hangover. In this case, I wouldn’t recommend the Goodrays drinks range as mixers as they have very delicate flavours that would likely be overpowered by the alcohol and not taste so great. These are perfect as they are but you could definitely drink a couple of these after a night out before bed to induce a similar effect. Again if you’ve had a little too much to smoke, these drinks will help to quickly bring you down. Bye, bye whitey – hello good nighty.

Goodrays CBD Gummies Review

So, on to another exciting product – CBD gummies! The effects of these gummies don’t hit you as quickly as the drinks, but their portability makes them, in my opinion, a hugely desirable product. Carrying heavy cans in your bag to and from work or the gym isn’t great – it takes up space and well, is heavy. The texture was my favourite part about these vegan gummies – it reminded me of those like, fruit jellies old people get – a little dusting of sugar, quite tough when you first bite into them, but then really soft on the outside.

I was sent out the Goodrays Mixed CBD Gummies (30 x 25mg), £24.95 which contain the 4 following fruity flavours:

  • Mango – This hits you with a bit of acidity first, then a subtle mango flavour, followed by a lot of bitterness and then it kind of goes back to being acidic again. I thought this would be my favourite but it was lacking in the acidity of a natural mango flavour and was too subtle. One of my favourite snacks is dried mango, especially when infused with lime. I feel like this could’ve been combined with a citrus flavour to amp it up a bit.
  • Raspberry – The lighter-coloured red gummy had a nice natural raspberry flavour but it didn’t last for long and was just a bit too bitter although towards the end you were hit with a bit of acidity to help counteract that bitterness. This one was my 2nd favourite but thought it would be more acidic than it was.
  • Lemon-Lime – I found this flavour confusing, it was sort of an incredibly subtle lemon and lime flavour and really bitter at the end but it did carry a good level of acidity. Definitely, my least favourite as it was largely bland and pretty bitter, and not very fruity either.
  • Strawberry – Okay, now this one was nice. The darker red/purple shaded gummies were hands down the best flavour – which I wasn’t expecting. I’m not a big strawberry fan really. This had a very natural strawberry flavour, with a great amount of acidity to balance out the bitterness. The other flavours could learn from the mighty Strawberry for sure. This one honestly tasted like a sweetie. 10-year-old me was buzzing. But then shortly after the bitterness lingered in my mouth as though I had just eaten a sweet dipped in soap.

trip or goodrays

Ultimately these were lacking on the flavour side of things in comparison to the drinks, all of them (other than the strawberry flavour) lacked the acidity required to counteract the bitterness of the CBD but the texture was lovely, and the little crunch of the sugar coating on the outside was a nice touch. The functionality was great and this will probably sound weird but I love the fact that these are shaped like cubes. But ultimately I just wanted that depth and layering of flavour and a less soapy taste.

Let’s take a little look at the ingredients list and nutrition below:

Ingredients: Tapioca Syrup, Sugar, Water, Pectin, Natural Flavours, Cannabidiol Isolate, Sodium Citrate, Citric Acid, Malic Acid, Natural Colour, and Sunflower Lecithin.

Nutrition (per gummy): Kcal: 15 | Carbs: 4g | Sugars 2g

(*All other nutrition stats have been left off due to being so negligible)

Now, considering that these gummies only contain CBD isolate rather than full spectrum, I was honestly expecting them to be a lot less bitter. I’ve definitely sampled gummies in the past with a much nicer taste but they were from a US-based company. And were full spectrum too.

What I really love about these though is that they don’t have copious amounts of glucose syrup in them which is a common ingredient in gummies, instead, the healthier tapioca syrup was used and rather than soy lecithin, sunflower lecithin was used which I was pretty happy with. Fun fact – our brains are made up of 30% lecithin and the myelin sheaths (little fatty protective nerve coverings) are composed of roughly two-thirds lecithin. You can actually find a lot of health benefits linked to sunflower lecithin but not so much soy.

For 15 calories and 2g of sugar per daily serving, I don’t feel that these would hinder any particular health goal, and the benefits of CBD would probably outweigh those anyway. So, if you can get past the lingering bitterness and want a fast and convenient way to dose then these gummies are certainly for you! The good news is that you can actually buy individual flavours, rather than just mixed, so once you find out which flavour is your favourite you can buy that sole flavour. I think I might be buying myself a box of strawberry gummies in the future.

trip or goodrays

The Verdict

Wow, I mean where do I start?

Flavour-wise, for an all-natural, no added sugar CBD drinks range, Goodrays has absolutely nailed it. They truly have done an impeccable job. I don’t think people quite realise the skill involved in making CBD products taste good and the addition of vitamin D is beyond groundbreaking. Whilst the gummies provide a great portable way to dose CBD I think further improvements are needed on the flavour. They certainly aren’t the worst gummies I’ve tried but they aren’t the best either. They were definitely lacking in acidity to mask the bitterness and I think the malic acid needs throwing up a notch or two in order to counteract it, but also to compliment the lovely natural flavours too. Often when I buy health products I find this problem anyway – it’s really not uncommon. For this reason, I actually have my own supply of malic acid that I add to protein shakes or pre/post-workout formulas. But obviously, this isn’t something you can do with a pre-made solid food product.  So, Goodrays I love you guys but I know you can make these even better than they already are.

The branding is so on point too, I honestly can’t get enough of it: from the website design to the drinks packaging, even all the way down to the shape and colours of the gummies. It’s modern, funky, and not too pretentious. And I’m happy to report that their Instagram isn’t pretentious either – which in all honesty every CBD brand these days is marketed in a painfully hipster way, and if it’s not hipster it’s clinical and boring. Goodrays managed to find a great balance between the 2. Oh, and I only saw 1 topless man on there which was at least in context to the post.

So, if you want to get your chill on, or if you’ve given up alcohol as your new year’s resolution, then head on over to Goodrays and pick yourself up some premium CBD products now!

Favourite products on the market. I love the oils, take both the day one and the night one. I'm calmer, more focussed, less anxious and definitely sleep better. I love their drinks too.

Best Gummies. Incredible stuff. Potent, effective, tasty and the container is great for travel!  I honestly wouldn't buy my gummies from anywhere else.

Delicious. Trying to reduce alcohol intake and these cans are superb. Felt relaxed in the evening and slept well. I will be ordering more.

Goodrays: A Brand Story

“Our mission was to change peoples’ mindset on cannabis, to de-stigmatise it as a plant” says Chris Kelly, co-founder of Goodrays . “As surfers and cannabis advocates, we wondered, ‘How can we make an everyday product with the benefits of cannabis, that anybody can enjoy?’ A tasty, natural, sparkling drink seemed like the obvious answer.”

It’s a small but significant detail that Goodrays is chiefly a cannabis brand, rather than just a beverage brand. The drinks they’ve created are delicious and all natural, with a strong commitment to sustainability, but what sets them apart is that they’ve created an everyday consumer product that imparts the benefits of the hemp plant, cannabis sativa L , a range of benefits relatively new to the general public.

While the Green Rush towards greater and greater commercial cultivation and product development in the US and Canada has been going on for a few years, in the UK and Europe, less so. Aside from the virtues of oils or creams to soothe aching sports peoples’ limbs, CBD hasn’t quite had the PR cut through to educate and inform the public as to what products containing it could do for them.

trip or goodrays

The Goodrays founders, four friends joined in a passion for surfing and a respect for plant power, decided to do something about that.

With Chris’ background in filmmaking and brand building and Eoin Keenan’s expertise in cannabis from both science and regulatory perspectives, both the story, and a means of telling it came together. Justin Stone’s experience in founding online retailer Surfdome and photographer and designer Owen Tozer ’s creative touch rounded out a diverse, complementary team. Between the four of them, a shared mission and mindset to bring about genuine change and create a product with real benefits was afoot. A surf/brainstorming trip to Portugal, a serendipitous flash of sunlight between dusking clouds, and Goodrays had a name to encapsulate the vibes, too.

As cold, sparkling drinks go, well, there’s already quite a few out there. From caffeine-based energy drinks to general sugar delivery solutions in bright coloured cans, waters, juices… not to mention beer and wine with a few millennia of recipe refinement. So aren’t thirsty people already fairly well catered for? “The concept behind our drinks, and the brand in general, is for those change of state moments, the transitions,” explains Chris. “Maybe it’s after a surf, or even after work. It’s about those moments that take you from one state of mind to the next. Relaxation drinks have been dominated by alcohol… and maybe to a degree by the humble cuppa, but with our Goodrays seltzers you get all the genuine physiological and mental benefits from the goodness of CBD.”

trip or goodrays

CBD being the non-psychoactive compound in cannabis, proven to offer numerous beneficial outcomes including relief from anxiety, increased mental focus and the improvement of sleep, while simultaneously helping ease physical pain, inflammation and muscle fatigue. Imparting all these benefits, whilst also enjoying a refreshing, relaxing beverage is central to Goodrays ethos of bringing about change to the way people perceive the cannabis plant. But rather than assume they’ve found the magic ingredient from day one, and just needed to make it taste nice, the relentless search for quality and refinement has been extensive, and is still very much ongoing.

“We’ve been visiting farms to source the best hemp growers, taking time to scrutinise the supply chain, spending months in the lab, testing, experimenting, tasting. I’ve spent the last ten years travelling the world to learn everything there is to know about this amazing plant, and there’s always more to learn,” explains Eoin. As surfers and lovers of the outdoors, it stands to reason that Goodrays is built on best environmental practice, an admirable place to put your most ambitious goals as a brand.

trip or goodrays

Hemp’s uniquely low impact as a crop makes a great starting point, and from there Goodrays are aiming to be a carbon negative business overall. All packaging and products are plastic free, their aluminium cans and packaging are infinitely recyclable and the vitamin D3 is from a vegan microalgal source, rather than lambswool. But whereas any company trying to sell anything today will be quick to splurge greenwashy jargon, Goodrays pair their sustainability with a commitment to transparency, concerning the business, but also CBD and cannabis products themselves. While not new to human cultivation, they’re very new to regulation. Traditionally, folk extolling the virtues of cannabis, aside from being outside the law, have also been, well, stoners. By bringing delicious all natural CBD drinks to the market, Goodrays are also playing an important role as ambassadors for the plant, a role for which having honesty and integrity is key.

Surfing and popular culture have come a long way since having a marijuana leaf glassed into your board was seen as something of a statement, and yet the story is far from written for this powerful and misunderstood weed. With plans for bottled drinks and edible gummies in the pipeline, and ever with an eye on the legislative situation regarding the hundred or more other cannabinoids as well as CBD, Goodrays are on a mission to bring the amazing power of their favourite super natural plant to the people.

We found CBD in 2018...

Weeks before our wedding, Dan was injured playing football and needed knee surgery - nightmare. Told he wouldn’t be able to walk down the aisle, we tried everything. He discovered CBD oils were a real game changer - he finally found some calm and could unwind before bed. Against the odds, Dan was last man standing on the dancefloor!

How TRIP started

We then started using CBD oils during our everyday lives...loving the results but hating the bitter taste. Our passion for CBD grew, eventually leaving careers in finance and law (sorry mum) to launch TRIP. We designed a CBD range that fits effortlessly into our lives and we hope yours too.

Tesco to stock Goodrays’ Double Strength CBD relaxation drinks

Tesco is to stock a range of Double Strength CBD drinks from relaxation brand Goodrays, as part of the retailer’s efforts to expand its selection of beverages.

Goodrays Double Strength is a health-based can infused with 30mg of natural CBD, which is double the amount of the market average.

The product is the first and only CBD beverage to launch in Tesco as the naturally occurring, non-intoxicating compound found in cannabis plants continues to go mainstream.

For the latest grocery news directly into your inbox, sign up to Grocery Gazette’s free daily newsletter here

The UK’s leading retailer has three different flavors of the drink currently in stock: Elderflower and Yuzu, Raspberry & Guava and Blood Orange & Grapefruit.

Additionally, the cans are 100% vegan, and a four-pack of Goodrays will sell for a RRP of £7.50.

“Our mission is to make high-quality CBD accessible, mainstream and widely understood, and to have a listing in Tesco, the UK’s largest retailer, is genuinely a dream come true,” Founder of Goodrays, Eoin Keenan said.

“It’s incredibly exciting to be supporting the next wave of innovation in functional drinks and it shows that the health benefits of CBD have begun to be more widely accepted.”

Keenen says that consumers will now have easy access to effective, single dose portions of CBD making the category more readily available to everyone.

He continues: “The quality and effectiveness of our product is down to the higher dose of 30mg of CBD in each can. The majority of human studies that demonstrate how CBD can help to decrease stress and anxiety begin at a minimum of 20mg dosages and we believe that like a cup of tea or coffee or a glass of kombucha, consumers should have the full benefits in a single product.”

The news comes as salaried Tesco workers have been forced to take a pay cut in real-terms as the retailer looks to offer larger wage increases for lower-paid workers amid the cost-of-living crisis.

Startup Goodrays creates “CBD for every occasion”

15-May-2023 - Last updated on 15-May-2023 at 15:27 GMT

  • Email to a friend

Goodrays

Launched in 2020, the start-up has expanded from their original oils and gummies to launch their leading drinks range into top UK retailers last year.

Discussing the wide ranging consumption opportunities for CBD, Eoin Keenan, the brand's co-founder and CEO, tells NutraIngredients: “We are offering different formats that work within different consumer occasions. We have something for somebody that feels anxious first thing in the morning before work, something for stress and claustrophobia when going on the tube in between meetings, something for unwinding and relaxing after work…”

He says the demand for healthy alternatives to modulate cognition is growing, in-line with the increasingly holistic outlook on health, as consumers want to 'optimise' health, not just treat problems.

“People are looking to optimise… they’re not looking for a solution. They don’t expect this to make everything better, but they are looking at nutrition in the mindset of ‘how will this improve my day by 5 to 10%,” he highlights.

The company offers CBD gummies, containing 25mg of CBD in flavours ranging from lemon-lime to mango. In addition, their drinks contain 30mg of CBD with added vitamin D in flavours such as elderflower and yuzu, as well as raspberry and guava.

Keenan regards the key consumer usages for CBD use to be for sleep, stress, and anxiety; areas targeted by the company with studies highlighting their potential beneficial effects.

Describing the CBD quantities used within his product range, he explains: “There’s a real absence of evidence to show that a dosage below 20mg has a significant effect on decreasing anxiety, stress, and sleep issues. But when you look at higher dosages of 25-30mg and above, you start to see some clinical data showing a high 70% efficacy in consumers.

“We are trying to translate this to educate CBD consumers and take them on that journey – that’s to understand the science, how it works, and take it into mass market so everyone has access to high quality, premium CBD products,” he stresses.

The journey

Keenan says his background centred around CBD and medical cannabis as he studied Cannabis Policy as part of his Sociology and Geography undergraduate degree at Trinity College Dublin.

But he also had a personal discovery of the benefits of CBD following his diagnosis with a generalised anxiety disorder as well as insomnia during his time at university. Keenan found CBD to be an effective way to manage these conditions, due to it effects on the nervous system through interactions with the endocannabinoid system.

When he left university in 2014, he moved to working in the CBD industry in Canada and California; regions he describes as “blueprint markets at the time”. Keenan says these years of travelling allowed him to better understand the cannabis plant as well as the people growing it, enabling for the identification of top quality sources.

“I worked with everyone there, from the cultivators to the manufacturers, and all the way to the end products. It was really my passion project… it didn’t start as necessarily as a corporate venture. I had been using CBD from an early age at university,” he emphasises.

“The main things I wanted to tackle were sleep, stress, and anxiety, but I wanted to do it in a natural way. I found that [CBD] really worked. I think that was one of the reasons I really wanted to get involved in the industry and look at that in California.”

This led him to investigate the science behind CBD to identify an accurate dosage to achieve the associated benefits, as well as investigate when it should be used and the most effective delivery formats.

Eventually, this led him to setting up the Prohibition Partners in 2017; Europe’s largest consultancy for CBD and medicinal cannabis, during which he advised companies, researched the field, and advanced regulatory change in the area.

He says that this background of knowledge and research into CBD, as well as further work led to the founding of Goodrays.

Growing market

Keenen addresses the current challenges in the CBD market following the 2019 regulation categorising CBD as a novel food and halting any additional brands or products onto the market.

“There’s a freeze on innovation and product development right now while the FSA processes CBD novel food applications. So like any challenger food and drinks brand, we’d love to launch new innovations, but compliance is a number one priority.

“We are waiting to see how the regulatory landscape develops. We’re in a good position because we have such a comprehensive range, so there’s plenty for us to be working on in terms of increasing distribution, getting it in front of people, constantly listening and understanding our consumer base. Then in the future, when the regulatory environment permits, we can launch new innovation.”

Tough road trip sees Rays hit another speed bump in rubber game

Doug Miller

SEATTLE -- The Rays will fly across the country, sleep, wake up on Thursday, and for the first time in the last two weeks, they won’t have a game to play.

For a team that’s been grinding through a grueling schedule, wading its way through pitching injuries and scuffling offensively, that might be just what it needs.

Tampa Bay’s 6-2 loss to Seattle in the rubber game on Wednesday afternoon at T-Mobile Park punctuated this difficult August stretch, one in which the Rays played games on 13 consecutive days, 10 of them in the road trip that just concluded.

trip or goodrays

In the finale against Seattle, Tampa Bay’s offense once again couldn’t do enough while the beleaguered state of the pitching staff led to a bullpen game that didn’t go the Rays’ way. The final tally was a 4-6 trip that left the club at 66-67 for the season.

The increasingly familiar narrative of a consistent lack of run support continued on Wednesday. Maybe a day off can change the music from the skipping of a broken record to something more melodic.

“Just kind of tough, really,” said right fielder Josh Lowe, who was one of the team’s only bright spots at the plate in the series, batting .455 (5-for-11) with two home runs, including one in the second inning against Mariners righty Luis Castillo that gave the Rays their only lead in the rubber game.

“We ran into some good teams that are throwing the ball well and we just couldn’t really get much momentum going offensively.”

Part of that had to do with Castillo’s moxie and resilience, and part of it had to do with the Mariners coming alive and taking advantage of opportunities against bulk reliever Tyler Alexander.

With the game tied at 1 and Seattle having faced opener Drew Rasmussen (two innings, 26 pitches) and reliever Kevin Kelly (1 2/3 innings, 26 pitches), Tampa Bay turned to lefty Alexander to take it the rest of the way. He did that, but he surrendered four runs in the pivotal bottom of the fifth inning.

Dylan Moore laced a one-out double down the left-field line, and after Alexander fanned Mitch Garver for the second out of the inning, he elevated a fastball that Victor Robles hit over the left-field fence.

The next batter, J.P. Crawford, worked a walk, and Julio Rodríguez followed with a homer of his own that gave Seattle a 5-1 lead.

“I thought I threw a lot of really good pitches,” Alexander said. “They put some good swings on them. I can’t do anything about that, except the walk. The walk hurt. I hate walks in general. I pride myself on being a control guy. When I walk people, that’s just not true. So free bags suck.”

But manager Kevin Cash pointed out that the Rays’ offense needed to do a better job than two runs on six hits. In the first inning, Junior Caminero hit a two-out triple, the first of his career, but Christopher Morel struck out to end that threat.

And in the sixth inning, the Rays strung together three hits and could only score one run, which occurred on a Dylan Carlson single that chased Castillo. But they left runners on the corners when José Caballero popped out to third off reliever Austin Voth.

It was emblematic of a tough West Coast swing that was finally over once Mariners closer Andrés Muñoz had put the finishing touches on the Rays’ 1-2 series in Seattle.

“We did some OK things,” Cash said. “Castillo … we’ve seen him have better command and better feel for his offspeed pitches, but that’s a credit to him and how talented he is that he battles through maybe not having his best stuff.

“And then, he kind of got in a rhythm and kept us quiet. So we couldn’t get much going off of him. It’s frustrating. Today’s really frustrating. We needed to find a way to win the game and we didn’t do anything good enough to win the game.”

THE GOODRAYS STORY

trip or goodrays

We exist to help busy minds find calm and clarity. We design and deliver the most exciting, effective and accessible CBD products for people who want to improve their mental wellbeing.

For too long, mental wellbeing has been ignored by the food and drink industry, dominated by high sugar, hard alcohol and ultra-processed foods. Goodrays is changing that.

Using a decade of experience in the CBD industry, all our products are crafted with rigorous testing, science-backed efficacy and outstanding taste, made with as little impact on the planet as possible and supported by a community of mental wellbeing experts and advocates.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

EOIN KEENAN / FOUNDER & CEO

I’ve experienced anxiety from a relatively young age. Like many others, those periods clouded my mind and stopped me from living my ‘best life’.

I knew that mental wellbeing was the key, but it had always seemed complicated and unattainable to me. I wanted to explore natural solutions, like exercise, mindfulness and a better diet. There seemed to be endless products, brands and self-help gurus offering pseudo-scientific solutions to one of life’s oldest problems.

This is when I found CBD. It almost seemed a bit too good to be true. How can the natural world be the solution to so many of life’s problems?

But it turns out this is not just any plant. This is the world’s oldest and most misunderstood plant. Extensive scientific research revealed properties within CBD have been found to offer relief from stress, increase mental focus & clarity, offering natural energy as well as improving sleep, easing physical pain, inflammation, and muscle fatigue.

After a few weeks, I was getting a good night's sleep, waking up with energy, and feeling creative, with an overriding sense of clarity and calm that allowed me to get the best out of every day.

I’ve spent the past decade studying the humble hemp plant, travelling across two continents from the rolling fields of California, British Columbia, and Colorado to find the most effective, highest quality ingredients, from sustainable sources.

Goodrays exists to help busy minds like mine find calm and clarity. We design and deliver the most exciting, effective and accessible CBD products for people who want to improve their mental wellbeing. We use the sum of our parts to create the country’s most sustainable CBD brand and to launch mental wellbeing campaigns to drive positive change.

For too long, mental wellbeing has been ignored by the food and drink industry, dominated by high sugar, hard alcohol and ultra-processed foods. Goodrays aims to change that.

Using a decade of passion, experience and borderline obsession, all our products are crafted with rigorous testing, science-backed efficacy and outstanding taste, made with as little impact on the planet as possible and supported by a community of mental wellbeing experts and advocates.

We hope you enjoy.
