The Age of Star Trek Cast Members

Redditor EmpressK researched the ages of the cast members of every Star Trek series at the time that they were launched. You can view them all here. Redditor gildedheart did some number crunching to come up with the average age of members on each of the different shows:

The original series - 36 The Next Generation - 33 Deep Space Nine - 36 Voyager  - 35 Enterprise - 34 The 2009 reboot - 32

EmpressK did make one mistake: she identifies Cirroc Lofton (Jake Sisko) as 18 when he was actually 14 when the series Deep Space Nine premiered. He was the youngest cast member of any series. The oldest was René Auberjonois , who played Odo on Deep Space Nine .

WHERE ARE THEY NOW: The cast of 'Star Trek: The Original Series'

  • " Star Trek " debuted 56 years ago on September 8, 1966.
  • After the show, the cast of the original series remained sci-fi icons.
  • Only three stars of " The Original Series " are alive today, after Nichelle Nichols' death in July.

William Shatner led the crew of the USS Enterprise as Captain James T. Kirk.

star trek cast ages

"Star Trek" was originally going to be focused on a different  captain, Captain Christopher Pike, played by Jeffrey Hunter. A pilot was even filmed, called "The Cage," but it didn't make it to airwaves until the '80s. Gene Roddenberry, the creator, eventually retooled the show and cast Shatner as a new captain, Kirk. Some footage from "The Cage" was then reused for a season one episode called "The Menagerie."

Before "Star Trek," Shatner was famous for his role in an iconic " Twilight Zone " episode, "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet," in which he played a man recently released from a mental hospital who becomes convinced he can see a creature on the wing of the plane he's flying on. It aired in 1963, three years before "Star Trek."

In addition to his "Star Trek" roles, Shatner acted in "T.J. Hooker" and "Boston Legal," hosted "Rescue 911," and he has written numerous books. He finally made it to the final frontier in October 2021.

star trek cast ages

Though he's 91 years old, Shatner has shown no signs of slowing down. After "Star Trek" was canceled in 1969, he briefly returned to voice Kirk for the "Star Trek" animated series. In 1979, he again reprised his role as Kirk in " Star Trek: The Motion Picture ." He'd continue to do so regularly until 1994's "Star Trek Generations." He even directed one of the "Star Trek" movies: " Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. "

Besides "Star Trek," Shatner starred as the titular police officer on the '80s procedural "T.J. Hooker" and narrated " Rescue 911 ," a show that consisted of dramatic reenactments of real crimes.

Other roles that you might recognize Shatner from: a pageant host in " Miss Congeniality ," attorney Dennis Crane in " The Practice " and its spin-off " Boston Legal " for which he won two Emmys , and in the 2016-2018 reality show " Better Late Than Never ," in which Shatner, Henry Winkler, George Foreman, and Terry Bradshaw traveled around the world and experienced different cultures.

The actor is set to appear in the upcoming "Masters of the Universe: Revolution" series on Netflix. He also finally made it to space himself during a Blue Origin flight in October 2021, making him the oldest person to go into space at 90.

Shatner has written multiple books, both fiction and non-fiction over the course of his career. His 2016 book, " Leonard: My Fifty-Year Friendship with a Remarkable Man ," was about his friendship with "Star Trek" co-star Leonard Nimoy, who played his on-screen better half, Commander Spock.

Walter Koenig was cast as Ensign Pavel Chekov because of his resemblance to the Monkees' Davy Jones.

star trek cast ages

While Chekov was Russian, Koenig was born in America and based his accent on his parents' accents — they were Russian immigrants. Koenig was cast because, according to legend, he was supposed to help attract young girls as viewers due to his resemblance to teen idol Davy Jones. He even wore a Davy Jones-esque women's wig for the first seven or eight episodes, he told TV Insider in 2016.

Koenig's mainly recognized for his on-screen role as Chekov, though he became a pretty prolific screenwriter in the '70s. He wrote episodes for the "Star Trek" animated series, anthology series "What Really Happened to the Class of '65?" and children's series "Land of the Lost."

Koenig appeared in the 2018 film "Diminuendo."

star trek cast ages

Koenig, 85, (he's turning 86 on September 14) still makes frequent appearances on the "Star Trek" convention circuit, as well as acting in the occasional film. He appeared in 12 episodes of " Babylon 5 " in the '90s, voiced himself in an episode of "Futurama," and also voiced Mr. Savic on the Netflix animated series " Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters. "

While not all of the "Star Trek" cast were on great terms, Koenig and his co-star George Takei remain close. Koenig was even the best man in Takei's wedding in 2008.

George Takei played Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu, a helmsman on the Enterprise.

star trek cast ages

Over the course of the show, Sulu was revealed to have many interests outside of Star Fleet, most famously fencing. At the time, Sulu was one of the first Asian characters on TV who wasn't explicitly a villain, and instead was a fully formed hero.

"Up until the time I was cast in 'Star Trek,' the roles were pretty shallow — thin, stereotyped, one-dimensional roles. I knew this character was a breakthrough role, certainly for me as an individual actor but also for the image of an Asian character: no accent, a member of the elite leadership team," Takei told Mother Jones in 2012.

Takei originally was supposed to play Sulu as an astrophysicist, but the role was changed to helmsman. Before "Star Trek," Takei also appeared in " The Twilight Zone " like his co-star William Shatner, among other '50s and '60s procedurals.

Takei is still acting to this day, though many people know him now for his social media presence.

star trek cast ages

Who says an 85-year-old doesn't know how to use social media? Takei's Facebook page has 9.5 million likes to date, and he has 3.4 million followers on Twitter .

In addition to his continued acting in films like "Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank," " Kubo and the Two Strings ," "Blazing Samurai," and "Mulan," and TV shows like "Heroes," "Supah Ninjas," and " Star Wars: Visions ," Takei is an activist. He came out as gay in 2005  and began working as a spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign.

Takei also starred in the 2012 musical "Allegiance," which was based on his and his family's experiences during Japanese internment in World War II.

Nichelle Nichols played Lieutenant Nyota Uhura, a translator, communications officer, and linguistics expert.

star trek cast ages

Uhura was one of the first Black television characters that didn't have a menial job — instead, she was in a position of power. She and Shatner were also involved in what is thought to be the first interracial kiss on American TV.

Nichols stayed with the show for all three seasons, but it wasn't without drama. She was tempted to leave during the first year, but none other than Martin Luther King Jr. convinced her to stay. She told the New York Post in 2011 that when she told him that she wanted to leave, he told her, "You can't do that. You have the first non-stereotypical, non-menial role on television. You have created strength and beauty and intelligence. For the first time, the world sees us as we should be seen. It's what we're marching for. You're a role model and whether you like it or not, you belong to history now."

She also released an album in 1967, "Down to Earth." In between "Star Trek's" cancellation and its return on the big screen, Nichols starred in the 1974 blaxploitation film " Truck Turner ," as Dorinda, a madam.

Nichols died in 2022 at the age of 89. She had retired from public appearances in 2018.

star trek cast ages

From 1977 until 2015, Nichols was involved with Women in Motion, a recruiting program for NASA to help get more women involved in the space program. In July 2020, a documentary about the program finally secured distribution and will be released in 2021, Deadline reported.

"Nichelle Nichols not only was a trailblazer in Hollywood, she was a trailblazer for the future of our society. She took the fight for Civil Rights, diversity and inclusion and gender equality to new frontiers with NASA which continue to serve America's space program today. She was ahead of her time," said executive producer Ben Crump.

Nichols also appeared in " The Young and the Restless, " "Heroes," and " Futurama ." She was diagnosed with dementia in 2018 and subsequently retired from public appearances.

In July 2022, Nichols' son announced on social media that Nichols had died at the age of 89 .

Leonard Nimoy played Captain Kirk's first officer and close friend Commander Spock.

star trek cast ages

Spock was the only alien member of the original crew, as he was half-human, half-Vulcan — an alien race from the planet Vulcan whose residents operate solely from a point of logic, not feelings. Much of the show's comedy came from Spock and Kirk's differences and their amusement at each other. His frequent farewell, " Live Long and Prosper ," accompanied by the Vulcan Salute, are among the most recognizable pieces of the "Star Trek" canon.

Nimoy had multiple small parts in B movies and TV shows before booking "Star Trek," including an episode of " The Man from U.N.C.L.E. " alongside future co-star William Shatner, as well as an episode of " The Twilight Zone ."

But once "Star Trek" premiered, Nimoy would be forever linked with his Vulcan counterpart, and he mainly did voice work after the show ended. He also reunited with Shatner for an episode of his show, "T.J. Hooker."

Nimoy died in 2015 at the age of 83. He played Spock for the final time in 2013's "Star Trek Into Darkness," meaning he played the role for almost 50 years.

star trek cast ages

Nimoy is the only actor from the original series to appear in JJ Abrams' rebooted films, as he appeared in 2009's "Star Trek" and its 2013 sequel " Star Trek Into Darkness " as an older version of Spock who was trapped in an alternate universe.

In addition to acting, Nimoy was a photographer, recording artist, author, and director. He directed two "Star Trek" movies (" The Search for Spock " and "The Journey Home"), and "Three Men and a Baby," which became the highest-grossing film of 1987 .

Nimoy died in 2015 at the age of 83 due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

DeForest Kelley played the ship's curmudgeonly chief medical officer, Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy.

star trek cast ages

Bones, as he was affectionately called, was one of the oldest members of the crew, and thus got to be a bit more obnoxious than the rest of them. His frequent catchphrase, " I'm a doctor, not a ___, " is one of the most parodied lines of dialogue from the show.

Like his character, Kelley was older and a more established actor than the rest of the cast. Before the show, he had appeared in Westerns and historical films like " Gunfight at the O.K. Corral ," "Warlock," and " Raintree County " in the '50s.

Kelley died in 1999 at the age of 79, nine years after playing McCoy for the last time.

star trek cast ages

Kelley essentially retired from acting, besides playing McCoy, after the success of "Star Trek." He appeared in all six films starring the original cast, and appeared in an episode of " Star Trek: The Next Generation " as McCoy, as well.

While he wasn't much of a sci-fi fan, Kelley was proud of his "Star Trek" legacy. When asked what he thought his legacy would be, he explained that his character inspired people to enter the medical field. He told the New York Times , "These people [fans] are doctors now, all kinds of doctors who save lives. That's something that very few people can say they've done. I'm proud to say that I have.''

He died in 1999 at the age of 79 due to stomach cancer .

Majel Barrett had a recurring role as Nurse Christine Chapel.

star trek cast ages

Barrett was originally cast in the first version of "Star Trek" as Pike's first officer, but when that episode was scratched, so was her character. However, due to her romantic relationship with "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry (who she later married), she was brought back as Nurse Chapel (a divisive character).

Before the show, Barrett was in various bit parts in '50s and '60s shows, but her big break was " Star Trek ," which she stayed involved in for the rest of her life.

Barrett died in 2008 when she was 76 years old. Up until her death, she had been involved with every "Star Trek" series in some way, leading fans to call her the First Lady of "Star Trek."

star trek cast ages

Barrett reprised her role as Chapel in " Star Trek: The Motion Picture " and " Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home ." She also appeared in " Star Trek: The Next Generation " and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" as Lwaxana Troi, the mother of Deanna Troi, a main character in "Next Generation." Her other involvement in the series was the voice of the computer in many of the other " Star Trek" films: "Generations ," " First Contact ," "Nemesis," and 2009's reboot.

She died in 2008 at the age of 76 due to leukemia .

James Doohan played chief engineering officer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott.

star trek cast ages

Contrary to popular belief, the phrase " Beam me up, Scotty " is never actually uttered in the original series. The man on the other end of that command, Scotty, was played by Doohan, who was Canadian in real life, not Scottish.

Before "Star Trek," Doohan served in the Canadian military and was even on the beaches of Normandy during D-Day, and was a pilot as well. After the war, he began acting and became a successful radio actor. Like his co-stars, he also appeared in an episode of " The Twilight Zone ," and other popular procedurals.

In the animated series, Doohan proved to be indispensable, with his talent for voice acting and accents. He voiced over 50 characters during the show's run.

James Doohan died at the age of 85 in 2005.

star trek cast ages

Doohan didn't find much success outside of the world of "Star Trek," and thus embraced his role as Scotty. He appeared in "Generations," as well as an episode of " The Next Generation ."

However, his impact on the field of engineering cannot be overstated. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Milwaukee School of Engineering "after half the students there said that Scotty had inspired them to take up the subject," according to the BBC .

Towards the end of his life, Doohan suffered from Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, and retired from public life in 2004. He died the following year, at 85, due to complications from pneumonia .

Grace Lee Whitney appeared in the first season of the show as Yeoman Janice Rand.

star trek cast ages

Rand appeared in eight episodes of the show's first 15-episode season as a clerical and administrative worker aboard the ship, before Whitney was released from her contract. At the time, the story was that the show didn't have enough money to keep everyone, but years later in her autobiography, Rand accused an unnamed executive producer , whom she called "The Executive," of sexually assaulting her.

"I tried to do what he wanted me to, so I could get it over with. I knew, deep down inside, that I was finished on 'Star Trek.' At that moment, however, I didn't care about that. Nothing else mattered — not my tarnished virtue, not my career, not my role on 'Star Trek.' The only thing that mattered was getting out of that room alive," she wrote.

Whitney died in 2015 at the age of 85.

star trek cast ages

After getting written off the show, Whitney struggled with her career, and alcoholism. She credited co-star Leonard Nimoy with helping her get back on her feet and involved with "Star Trek" once again. She reprised her role in four of the original "Star Trek" films, and in an episode of " Star Trek: Voyager " alongside George Takei.

She died in 2015 due to natural causes at the age of 85.

The Only Major Actors Still Alive From Star Trek: The Original Series

Star Trek Kirk

Gene Roddenberry's celebrated sci-fi TV series "Star Trek" debuted on September 8, 1966, and it recently celebrated its 57th anniversary. Initially, "Trek" wasn't terribly popular, and it only managed to make a third season thanks to a coordinated letter-writing campaign (a campaign that Roddenberry was accused of orchestrating and encouraging himself). It wouldn't be until after "Star Trek" was canceled in 1969 that its popularity would significantly begin to grow.

Thanks to a sweet infinite syndication deal, "Star Trek" reruns were common, and a cult began to form. By the early 1970s, the first "Trek" conventions began to appear. Naturally, conventions were a great place for the show's stars and creators to congregate and share production stories with a rising tide of obsessives. Fans were able to talk to and get autographs from William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, Nichelle Nichols, Majel Barrett, Walter Koenig, George Takei, James Doohan, and Grace Lee Whitney, as well as many of the show's more supporting players.

Many decades have passed, but the surviving "Star Trek" cast members, now in their 80s and 90s, still appear at conventions to share details of their now-long and storied careers. Over 57 years ago, they were at the start of a phenomenon; none of them could have likely predicted just what a massive impact "Star Trek" would have on the pop culture landscape. Three members of the original "Star Trek" cast appeared at Creation Entertainment's 57-Year Mission convention in Las Vegas, and one of them is already confirmed for the 2024 con  next August.

If you're eager to get an autograph or merely to hear an amusing anecdote from across many decades of interaction with the "Trek" franchise at large, the following surviving actors will still happily oblige.

William Shatner

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country

In March of 2023, Shatner, who played the resolute Captain Kirk on "Star Trek," turned 92, yet he still makes convention appearances. Stories have been told throughout Trekkie-dom that Shatner can occasionally be spiky at cons, but has clearly embraced them, even going so far as to say that fans are the future  of anything so deeply beloved as "Star Trek." Indeed, in many cases, fans care more about carrying on the legacy of a show than the studios; in many ways, Trekkies take the show more seriously than the people who make it.

Shatner has, of course, had a textured career. Some of his earlier films include adaptations of "The Brothers Karamozov" (in which he played Alexey) and "Oedipus the King" (in which he played a masked member of the chorus), as well as genre films like "The Intruder" and "Incubus." Although Shatner is best known for "Trek" — a common side-effect for most any actor who appeared on any "Star Trek" show — he forged an interesting acting career beyond ii. He appeared in the hit cop show "T.J. Hooker," and appeared in spoof films like "Airplane II: The Sequel" and "National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1." He released several notorious albums of speak-singing, and directed several documentaries about "Star Trek," including "The Captains" and "Chaos on the Bridge."

Shatner also authored several "Star Trek" novels and even launched his own modestly successful sci-fi book series with "TekWar" (ghost-written by Ron Goulart) in 1989. He won two Emmys in 2004 and 2005 for his role as Denny Crane in "The Practice" and "Boston Legal." He's also an equestrian enthusiast and has won a few horseback riding awards. Shatner is spry for 92.

George Takei

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country

In 2019, George Takei , who played the practical and intelligent Hikaru Sulu on "Star Trek," authored a graphic novel all about his childhood experiences of being rounded up and imprisoned in a Japanese internment camp during World War II. Takei was born in Los Angeles in 1937 (he's the only main cast member from the original show who is an L.A. native), and recalls being held against his will by the U.S. government as a child. It may have been that experience that made Takei as political as he is. In the early 1970s, after "Star Trek," Takei ran for a set on the Los Angeles City Council, and served as an alternate delegate at the 1972 Democratic National Convention. At conventions, Takei has spoken at length about his beliefs in civic infrastructure, encouraging L.A. to improve its long-beleaguered public transportation.

Takei came out as gay in 2005, revealing that he had been with his long-term partner, Brad Altman, for the last 18 years. He and Altman married in 2008, one of the first same-sex couples to be granted a marriage license in West Hollywood, California. Takei has been an outspoken queer rights activist ever since, raising money for charities and speaking at charity events regularly. He makes appearances at fan conventions on the regular.

As an actor, Takei began reading English-language dubs for imported Toho monster movies prior to "Star Trek." He also starred in movies like "The Green Berets" and "Mulan." On TV, Takei guest-starred on many, many programs, including a notable regular role on the hit show "Heroes." His deep voice also afforded him an opportunity to regularly contribute to dozens of animated programs, most recently in Max's "Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai."

Walter Koenig

Star Trek Chekov

There were rumors circulating through the Trekkie community for years that Walter Koenig was hired to appear on the second season of "Star Trek" because the then-30-year-old actor looked an awful lot like Davy Jones from "The Monkees." This wasn't the case, but Koenig provided a youthful, heartthrob quality with his character, Pavel Chekov. His character was Russian, a notable character decision to make in the mid-1960s as the U.S. was still embroiled deeply in the Cold War. Chekov was a symbol that peace would eventually come. Koenig was never anything less than 100% committed, and reacted to extreme sci-fi scenarios with fire and aplomb.

In the early '60s, the actor worked his way through smaller roles in multiple well-known TV series like "Mr. Novak," "Gidget," and "I Spy" before joining "Star Trek" in its second season. After, he continued apace, working on TV regularly, eventually landing a recurring role on a second beloved sci-fi series  "Babylon 5." He has also stayed a part of "Star Trek" up until the present, having provided a voice cameo in the most recent season of "Star Trek: Picard," as well as reprising his role as Chekov in the semi-professional and well-respected fan series "Star Trek: New Voyages." He's also dabbled in many amusing B-movies like "Mad Cowgirl" and "Scream of the Bikini," as well as animated shows like "Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters."

Additionally, Koenig has served as an advocate for civil rights in Burma, having visited refugee camps there. Koenig still appears at conventions, happy to talk about his various projects and acting endeavors. Just please, whatever you do, don't ask him to say "nuclear wessels." The man just turned 87. He deserves a break from that.

'Star Trek: The Original Series': Where Is the Cast 46 Years After TV Premiere?

Kirk, Spock and crew have plenty to keep them busy on Earth.

Sept. 7, 2012— -- intro: Just don't call them Trekkies.

Many fans of the original " Star Trek " series prefer to be called Trekkers, and they know everything about its intricacies.

From the shape-shifting creature featured in the first TV episode on Sept. 8, 1966, to the last episode on June 3, 1969, when Capt. James Tiberius Kirk loses his consciousness to a woman determined to kill him, "Star Trek" has taken its viewers "where no man has gone before" -- over and over and over again.

The upcoming Star Trek: Starfleet Academy series looks like it has its cast for the first season, with the announcement of another member of the inaugural cast of cadets.

One more cadet for Academy

Today Paramount+ announced that British Canadian actor and model Sandro Rosta had joined the cast for the original series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy . Rosta is the sixth young actor cast as an Academy cadet, joining the previously announced Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Karim Diané, and Zoë Steiner.

Like with the other cadets cast, there are no details about the character Rosta will be playing. However, Paramount did provide this summary of his experience:

Rosta recently graduated from the Oxford School of Drama. During this time, he starred as Romeo in “Romeo and Juliet,” Trofimov in “The Cherry Orchard” and Tom Musgrave in “The Watsons” at the Jermyn Street Theatre. Rosta recently made his professional debut in “The Harmony Test” at Hampstead Theatre.

Academy cast is complete

At SDCC last month executive producer and co-showrunner Alex Kurtzman announced they had one more character to cast for the series, and TrekMovie has confirmed Rosta is the final series regular, filling out the cadet cast. However, there may be more recurring roles and guest stars to be revealed for season 1.

In addition to the cadets, the YA series about the famed Starfleet school will feature several adult characters including Academy Award-winner Holly Hunter, who plays the captain and chancellor of Starfleet Academy, and Academy Award-nominee Paul Giamatti, playing the main villain for season 1. British actress and comedian Gina Yashere will be playing an Academy instructor.

There will also be several familiar actors reprising Star Trek roles on the show. Fitting with the 32nd-century setting, this includes three crossing over from Star Trek: Discovery . Tig Notaro will be a series regular, reprising her role as Jett Reno. Oded Fehr and Mary Wiseman will return in recurring roles as Admiral Vance and Sylvia Tilly respectively. The Academy show will also feature the return of Star Trek: Voyager’s Robert Picard as The Doctor as a series regular.

Production on the new series is expected to start at the end of the month in Toronto at Pinewood Studios, where Star Trek: Discovery was filmed for five seasons. Paramount+ has yet to set a release target for the new show but Alex Kurtzman has suggested it may not debut until 2026.

At SDCC Paramount+ released a video featuring members of the new cast of cadets being told they landed a role in Star Trek.

New ‘Starfleet Academy’ Cast Member Announced; ‘Section 31’ Actor Teases New Look For Star Trek

I had expected the cadets to be unknowns but am surprised by just how little work some of them seem to have done. Good for them.

they should stream this on the CW

Ha my thoughts exactly. I am more interested in it now that the Doctor is back (and he was fabulous on Prodigy) but I still think this will be as bad as Discovery.

Hopefully I’ll be proven wrong though.

Since Michelle Paradise isn’t working on this show it has to be better than Discovery lol.

In all seriousness I certainly understand everyone’s concerns about it although I personally am very optimistic about it. At least so far all the news about it has been very positive for me. But I also remember saying that about the first two seasons of Picard as well. 🙄

And I think that’s why the Doctor is there, to add a familiar and popular face for fans who are (very) skeptical about this show. I did read on another site the new showrunner grew up watching Voyager and the Doctor has always been one of her favorite characters. But I’m guessing the plan from day one was to always add a legacy character (probably TNG or VOY) on it and she suggested him. Who knows but glad he’s there!

You’re always so positive Tiger2 (and you never act like a bully or a triggered emotional child when people hate the things you like haha).

But I hope you are right and ultimately it’s a good show. And I didn’t know the showrunner was a big Voyager and Doctor fan growing up. She and my daughter would get along great haha.

The rest of the cast is good though and I really do like Jett Reno too so happy she’s back. Her and the Doctor will probably be so funny together. So there are things I am looking forward to.

I am also hoping we get Kovich/Daniels back. At least a few appearances.

I’m just worried it will literally sound like a high school show since the so called ‘adult ‘ shows like SNW, Discovery and LDS sounded like that as well.

If the adults actually sound like adults for a change and not petulant children that alone will be a win.

And I really wish the show was in the 25th century instead of the 32nd one. That’s the century most fans seem to care about the most. Not speaking for all of them just the ones who agree with me haha.

But I do want to like this show. Sadly there is now so little Star Trek on now although I am hoping we get more Prodigy!

I do try to be but I’m guessing you haven’t read my review on the Section 31 trailer lol.

And of course I hear you. All of those are valid concerns. I just try not to be too negative about something until we see some of the finished product first (again see my thoughts on the Section 31 trailer ;)).

The show can obviously be bad but I do mean it when I say I have liked all the news about it so far. And I wasn’t that positive about everything. The animated shows both gave me pause when they were first introduced but both won me over right away; just more proof we can only really judge these things until we see it first. As put off as I was over the Section 31 trailer I’m still very open minded about the movie itself. I’m just hoping the next trailer feels more like Star Trek again.

And I know many people want this show in the 25th century. I certainly wouldn’t mind it of course but the setting is actually the biggest reason why I so excited about the show. If it was just the 25th century then it would just be kids going to school basically.

But someone on another site made a great argument that it would’ve been great if they set the show around the Dominion war, or around season 6 of DS9. Now that would’ve been very interesting too and seeing what’s it like to join the Academy during war time. Especially because Starfleet is supposed to be about exploration but you are now training these kids to fight a war.

So that could’ve been a great setting for the show and give us a different side to the Dominion war as well but just an idea. OK I’m rambling now lol.

But that’s what I mean they do have a great angle with the Burn and the possibilities are literally endless where they can go with it.

And even though I’m still not a big Discovery fan I do think the greatest gift from that show was giving us the 32nd century. I can hear the boos now lol but if SFA give it the kind of attention to it we got with the other settings fans will come around ro it more eventually.

And if not, we still got the Doctor! 😉

And I went back and read the comments the showrunner said concerning him and she said the Doctor helped raised her so clearly a big fan lol. Again not going into another tangent but it must be interesting for so many of these new showrunners today who was probably teenagers or younger when TNG originally aired are now bringing back their favorite characters and actors from that era. Must be a dream if you been a fan for decades now.

And to be fair many fans were always saying it made sense to see the Doctor show up on Discovery once they got to the 32nd century so this was always a no-brainer.

Actually I did see your thoughts on the Section 31 trailer and completely agree lol. It looks so bad and I always hated the Space Nazi, even if I like the actress but just like you I will wait for more. But if it’s more of the same I will probably just skip the movie as I did for Discovery last season.

And I guess that’s why I don’t care about SFA, it’s more Discovery stuff I have no interest in. If I never saw anything from that show again I wouldn’t miss any of it. But they were very smart to bring in the Doctor, so I’m giving it a chance no matter what now.

But as always you make thoughtful and strong arguments for these shows. I really do hope we get a compelling and sci fi show like I was hoping SNW would be before it went down satireville.

That example you gave about the Academy show during the Dominion war is exactly what I mean. Imagine a Ron D. Moore making that show as opposed to Kurtzman, Abrams or Paradise who can’t make a compelling Star Trek drama to save their lives. But I digress. But it all ends up with ridiculous mystery boxes, cringe teenage-like comedy and people crying on the bridge.

I just want an adult show again. A show where space is dangerous and people who understands that and not have 20 something year old Captains who haven’t even finished school yet in charge. So ridiculous. I certainly don’t mind humor and fun characters and why I’m happy the Doctor is there but the shows should still have a more dramatic undertone.

Hopefully it will be. But as always love reading your insights dear.

Again I completely hear you. And TBH I don’t know if that’s what we will get with this show since Kurtzman said awhile ago the show will have lots of humor in it. And then we found out Tawny Newsome became a writer and that mostly happened because Kurtzman liked some of the improv she did on SNW. And then add the fact we have Tilly, the Doctor and Reno on this show, all comedic characters to a degree (although YMMV like mine with Tilly) so we’ll see.

And it could be a more serious show obviously. But it does feel like that Star Trek is now taking a more lighter tone and humorous approach lately. I don’t think you can blame it on LDS fully but it was the first comedic show and that clearly rubbed off on stuff like SNW and msybe even Section 31. Again that may be a very serious movie in the end but people are dubbing it Treks version of GOTG for a reason. And now they are developing a live action comedy.

It’s (no pun intended) funny how we went from the very bleak and dark angle in Discovery’s first season where people were literally eating other people to now doing musicals with Klingon boy bands lol.

So I get it and I like the light hearted aspects of Trek but I do miss the gravitas and serious tones of the older shows too.

There just needs to be a better balance IMO.

My credo is: any Trek is better than no Trek.

This is true and why I watched the first two seasons of Discovery haha. Because that’s all there was the first few years. But once we got Picard and later SNW I just had less interest watching that show even though I did try to watch every season in the beginning but kept giving up. But I put all my focus on those two shows being a huge TOS and TNG fan.

Of course just my feelings only.

I disagree. I prefer something to be left alone rather than to be stained.

I agree with your opinion.

I’m hoping SFA will end up being a great show.

OK, I can totally see that (and I dunno your feelings on these two shows) but with no DISCO we would never have gotten SNW. Sometimes even a perverbial turn can give birth to a resulting garden. We can leave the field alone but then we will just be having some picnics or paintball fights reminising about old times instead of what comes next.

*stained* ?? That’s a bit harsh. If you don’t like it? Don’t watch it…The gatekeeping that goes on here…*smh*

Yep cause if they *do* make a bad Star Trek it still opens the door for future good Trek than it going into hybernating and Paramount asking , “Trek what now?”

Not true, no Trek is better than Discovery.

Or, it’s all Trek.

Seconded! Tiger always puts the best foot forward.

And you’re probably right they always intended to add a legacy character on the show. Hasn’t there been one on every show so far? And it’s interesting there are so many Voyager characters. This will be the third NuTrek show with a Voyager lead.

But I’m not complaining about that lol.

Every show has featured a Legacy character as a lead minus LDS basically so you’re mostly right.

Discovery is a little different since there were no leads after the third season but season 2 Pike and later Spock were basically leads on that show and Sarek was a recurring character for both seasons.

But Picard and definitely SNW are the worst culprits by far since they are basically a TNG and TOS memberberries reunion. I think Prodigy probably did it the best because while Janeway, Chakotay, Doctor and Wesley all had had strong roles the show still felt more about the kids IMO. And it helps when you have 20 episodes to develop characters and not just 10 as the others.

But actually since Janeway was introduced on Prodigy I said every show will probably have a Legacy character as a series regular going forward. Ironically I said SFA would probably be an exception but here we are lol. It’s Star Trek though, literally anything is possible.

And I have no issues with having more Voyager characters around but yes it would be nice to get one DS9 lead eventually.

Maybe with the new comedy show? That will take place in the 25th century and it sounds like a setting perfect for Quark. ;)

Yes I would love to see more DS9 characters as well. My real dream would be to see the Enterprise characters back to but I know the timeline makes it harder.

But if they can figure out a way for the Doctor to be in the 32nd century it shouldn’t be that hard to see Archer or T’Pol in the future, at least for an episode. Put them on SNW. Like you said it’s Star Trek anything is possible.

For some reason I thought LDS had some recurring TNG characters on it. Isn’t Riker and Troi on that show from time to time?

I also remembered seeing Paris somewhere. Was he only in one episode? I thought he was in season 4 too but maybe I’m confusing him with Locarno? I have never seen the show.

Actually Troi was only on LDS once in the first season finale with Riker. He appeared alone in 2 or 3 episodes in season 2 but haven’t been back since and probably to Frakes disappointment.

BTW, fun fact people but Mike McMahan gave an interview recently talking about how Riker became part of the first season. He was showing Frakes some of the early scripts and art designs of the show and. Frakes liked it so much he asked McMahan if he could put Riker in an episode somewhere.

Frakes has no shame and why we love him so much lol. I still remembered when he was gunning for a role in one of the Kelvin movies. I know for a fact it would’ve been a much better movie for it but whatever.

And yes that was Locarno not Paris (although Paris was in season 2). Although that’s pretty funny you confused them and they even joked about it on the show.

People give LDS a lot of crap for being a show about memberberries and nostalgia (and they are not wrong lol) but what’s interesting about it is it’s the only modern shows where the legacy characters don’t lead the story. They are part of it but they don’t drive it like the other shows constantly do. I guess people can argue Locarno was the driver of season 4 though but he didn’t show up until the last episode basically.

And that’s another thing there are no recurring legacy characters like you have in shows like SNW where Kirk and T’Pring awkwardly pop up on the show like they are neighbors. LDS has a lot of cameos but that’s what they mainly are. With the exception of Riker every character has only showed up once.

And as for your interest of seeing Enterprise characters, McMahan has teased he wanted to get those characters on the fifth season. We don’t know if they will appear but we do know more legacy characters will again and there is a scene in the trailer of LDS characters in a D con chamber so fingers crossed!

OK per usual I am waaaay off topic lol. Let’s get back on topic: It be cool if Riker showed up on SFA. I’m sure Frakes would be down for that. Thread saved.

Wait… WOT!… did Frakes want scene with Nimoy in the Prime Universe?!

No this was after the first movie and he made the statement around 2012 or 2013 IIRC.

He was just speaking in general and saying maybe in a future Kelvin movie they could use time travel or something to involve the TNG cast in some kind of crossover story. I definitely would’ve been up for that!

This was also a time most people thought those movies would be the dominant force in the franchise for probably years to come and really nothing else. Obviously that didn’t turn out to be case and Riker is getting his time in the spotlight again while the Kelvin movies are currently DOA.

Ugh, Michelle Paradise should be banned from coming near a Star Trek show. Is there a way we can file for a restraining order so she can’t be 100 meters near a Star Trek script?

Paradise was the first showrunner I wanted fired. I just think she made a mess out of Discovery. I did like season 5 overall but there was still just as much bad as good in that season IMO.

She won’t be missed by me. Eitherway she’ll be fine and will probably be making shows for the next 20 years and will be more rich and famous than I’l lever be; I just hope none of them are Star Trek again, that’s all.

I wish but I’ll remind everyone that Star Trek has only ever had ONE successful show on Network TV (Voyager) and even that show only made it because UPN pretty much had nothing else. I don’t know why Trek performs so bad in traditional networks but it does. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, a show about 4 Star Trek nerds becomes the #1 TV on Network but somehow ACTUAL Star Trek can’t even break through.

I didn’t think they are being serious about putting it there. They are just saying it’s probably going to feel like a CW show, cheap and sophmoric appealing to teenagers than serious science fiction fans.

Ahh, I misunderstood as usual hahaha

No worries! :)

I’m really happy with how this cast turned out. I was concerned they would be skewing TOO much younger for my tastes, but these young actors appear to be JUST the right age for what my mental picture of Starfleet Academy had been so far, so I’m happy.

we still have Tilly the child…

She’s more mature than you though.

YA = Y ain’t you lovin’ it? It’s Star Trek, Y’All!

I know YA gets a bad wrap these days but this may turn out great.

Uh oh I’m in trouble then cause I always say that lol

It’s great we are getting casting news about the cadets. Know nothing about any of them but excited to see them. I hope a few will be aliens. Give us one Cardassian and Klingon!

Come, is it me or is this dude totally playing a Nevar??

That would be cool as well obviously. But we’re probably getting those regardless.

I mentioned Klingons and Cardassians because we haven’t seen any of them in the 32nd century yet, but I actually forgot the Federation President is part Cardassian.

My first thought was that this lad was made for a set of pointy ears, yes. 😆

I’d really like to see this series recognize the ones that came before in the form of holograms and/or statues of famous captains and commanders, starting with Archer and the crew of the NX-01.

Those poor students having to take exams and history classes on events that took place a thousand years earlier. Specially after the Burn, it’ll be a miracle of any intact records survived.

The cool thing is that they have the database from the Discovery, which records about everything before they left their home time would be considered more accurate than anything that survived into the 31st Century.

Of course, having time travelers helps.

I really like this idea as well. It would be a great way to bring in any character you want from Archer to Janeway Holograms which could appear in classrooms as historical figures. I saw someone mention this on another site but it would be no different than Janeway talking to Leonardo DaVinci or Data conferring with Einstain in the holodeck.

I don’t expect it to happen but nothing stops it either.

If Prodigy could do it in the Kobayashi Maru test, then the live-action series can and should do it too.

Honestly, the DISCO era has done so much with Archer (so much so we even got the theme) and Picard. My personal feeling is that with these “cameos” they are forgetting the ones who started it all with Kirk and co (not Spock of course but in this context that doesn’t count cause of Burnham).

Burnham even said, I never let myself find out what became of him. What became of him? He sacrificied himself for the Enterprise and her crew. Then Kirk doubled down and sacrified the Enterprise and his own son to revive Spock. How Spock’s own sister does not think to even mention that is beyond me (that is directed at Kurtzman and co, not actual Burnham).

I’m sure that if the season had had more episodes they might have explored that more deeply. Definitely a consequence of the shorter count.

Ya perhaps. I mean I am biased because no matter what I will be a TOS guy. I know I am overly complaining but sometimes these days it feels like TOS get’s short changed if your name is not Spock.

They have half of the TOS characters on SNW now and I suspect more will show up in the third season as well.

And with the exception of Kirk and Chapel I really like how all the others have been portrayed. And I like the actress who plays Chapel but she might as well just be a different character altogether.

Sulu will probably be next.

If not Rand.

Yep my thinking exactly. I think Mccoy will eventually show up but maybe in season 4.

And actually they now have more than half the main TOS characters on SNW: Kirk, Spock, Uhura, Chapel and now Scotty. Only Mccoy, Sulu and Chekhov are missing at this point.

But TOS is very much represented these days thanks to that show.

It will be interesting to find out how McCoy ends up becoming CMO. I guess that will be a season 5 reveal, but that is a bit off topic here.

Looking forward to seeing what SFA will be all about.

Doctor Piper first, then McCoy…

She is written better, heh.

But it’s still not the character. She might as well jist be someone else. And I don’t just mean her personality but the relationship with Spock (which I hate) and how Korby is being added AFTER the fact makes zero sense in canon but this is for another thread.

Well, canon is fluid as exemplified in the episode with Khan.

Then just make it official and say it’s in another timeline then. Yes it basically is now but I wish they just made it clear. But it’s no way this show is a direct prequel to TOS now.

It’s the same timeline but with an altered history, like in Yesteryear in which the Andorian replaced Spock.

The episode with Khan pretty much made that as clear as possible.

Ic it’s an altered history then it makes it an altered timeline. And let’s not make this stuff overly complicated lol.

Not necessarily.

It’s the same timeline but with a different history, something we’ve seen many times before going back to City on The Edge of Forever.

I believe it was Daniels who told Archer that changes to the timeline happen in waves.

I am a proponent that SNW represents the tip of the wave washing over history and changing it along the way.

That’s fine but they just have to make that more clearer that’s all. I think what bothers people is Goldsman is trying to have it both ways. He acknowledged baby Khan changed things but still suggest canon basically lines up in the prime universe when it clearly doesn’t.

I just don’t get these guys. If you want your show to line up with canon aa much as possible than do that. If you feel it’s too hard because the universe is too wielding at this point then just say it’s an alternate timeline and just do what you want.

Or the third option just keep going forward and you have none of these problems. Discovery made that turn after 2 seasons after the hole the show put itself in.

And I love SNW but yeah.

And that cost Discovery its identity. It stopped being the show it set out to be.

What SNW has been doing works primarily because of the episode with Khan outright addressing the fluidity of history.

What we’ve seeing play out, albeit in real time, is no different from the timeline in which Edith lived in TOS and the one in which Spock died in TAS, but without someone going back in time and changing things back to how they were before.

I believe history first changed when Troi drunkenly told Cochrane that they’re from the future.

Well Discovery has no one but itself to blame there when it introduces advanced technology like a spore drive but then don’t want to get rid of it when they know its too advanced for its period among other things.

As far as SNW and alternative timeline , I get all of that but it should be made more clear like the Kelvin movies did and made it be known it is operating in a different reality.

But it’s still trying to have it both ways. For example , last season SNW had two time travel episodes. the one with baby Khan and TOS where Mariner and Biomler came from the 24th century.

The baby Khan episode goes into the Temporal War as to why Khan’s timeline was changed. But then 4 episodes later they meet the Cerritos crew who clearly ISN’T affected by the same timeline changes and is keeping canon to everything that happened in the prime universe.

But of course the biggest problem is TOS itself since according to Space Seed and TWOK Khan was still around in the 20th century and where the problem lies.

They both can’t be canon. But if SNW makes clear it’s operating away from TOS then yeah they can just do anything since they already are lol.

But it seems like they are still playing with the idea everything in SNW is supposed to still connect with TOS and beyond.

(Reading above, I really think about this show way too much lol)

The spore drive was not advanced for the period, it was advanced for the production values of the ’60s. No different than the holodeck, which they wanted to do in TOS but couldn’t due to budget constraints, so it didn’t appear until the animated series in which it was cheaper to do.

But SNW is not operating away from TOS.

Remember, changes to the timeline happen in waves, and SNW is likely the tip of the wave. Hence, the changes haven’t caught up to Lower Decks.

SNW did another time travel episode that further cements the fluidity of history in season one when it showed the alternate version of Balance of Terror.

After the release of Abrams’ Star Trek movie, IDW did a series of comics that reimagined classic episodes of TOS as retold in the Kelvin timeline.

Let us say that after SNW ends its run Paramount + decided to launch a new version of TOS starring the actors from SNW that play the characters from that series today.

They could very well do in live-action what those comics did on paper. The difference would be that while the stories in those comics took place in an alternate timeline that exists separate from the prime timeline the events in this hypothetical revision of TOS would take place in the new history of the prime timeline that began prior to the launch of the NX-01 as seen on Enterprise.

Are you kidding me?? Dude the spore drive was so advanced it wasn’t even made in the 32nd century lol. C’mon it’s a magical device that can jump ships ANYWHERE in the galaxy in seconds. How is that not advanced???? Can you imagine if every starship was equipped with a spore drive? They would be finding thousands of planets every year when you can just type in a few coordinates and be in a new Star system in seconds.

As far as the wave thing OK man but as a fewer just watching these shows its still a bit confusing watching something like SNW and then watch TOS to realize most of the characters and situations just feels out of joint from each other.

I meant viewer…

The advancement in technology is not the reason why it wasn’t made in the 32nd Century or even in the 24th. It was because the Federation banned augments, and in order to make the spore drive work the pilot needs to be augmented by having their DNA rewritten with tardigrade DNA.

They feel as out of joint as when the Andorian replaced Spock in Yesteryear, because just as in that episode of TAS history is being rewritten. It just hasn’t caught up to the TOS era.

That’s not a strong excuse because wasn’t augments already banned when the spore drive was invented? And I refuse to believe A. Out of the billions of people they couldn’t find anyone else to be able to control a spore drive since they happen to find two people on Discovery itself when you include Book or B. After 900 years they never could just make a drive without tardigrade DNA.

It just never made any sense nor does it look like anyone even tried. Another reason why I don’t really like Discovery much and I always liked the spore drive but it was always too ridiculously advanced.

But we can agree to disagree. :)

As for TAS you’re talking about one episode from a show that I doubt most people has ever seen and it was reset at the end like 99% of all Star Trek time travel episodes that you seem to ignore. SNW is an entire show and it just doesn’t connect to TOS at all outside of a few things. The point is you now have two shows where Khan was born at two different times and both considered canon. If they said Space Seed and TWOK was no longer canon then I can buy what you’re selling but we both know that will never happen.

That’s not a strong excuse because wasn’t augments already banned when the spore drive was invented?

Yes. They broke the law, what they did was illegal.

Book was a naturally augmented human, though. He was born that way, and they didn’t find him until almost a millennia after the spore drive was invented. As for other humans like him, they all died in season four, no?

What comes after SNW is changing as the wave washes over history and changes it. What was canon before is not now. Only what currently appears on screen counts, and when it comes to SNW and TOS that is changing.

By the 32nd Century, better forms of travel than the spore drive had been developed, such as the Pathway drive. Such a drive did not require a pilot like the spore drives does, for example.

And not once was it ever explored on the show about augments because it was just about the spore drive.

Again just have to agree to disagree. I LOVE the idea of the spore drive. It was one of the few new things the show presented in season 1 but it felt completely out of place to the setting and another reason why the show didn’t belong in the 23rd century and they obviously knew that.

As far as SNW and its questionable canon issues one of the things it does completely right is the show fits in perfectly technology wise. Nothing feels out of place and organic to that time period, so they have corrected a few things for sure. Discovery just felt too advanced as a show and they put it in an era where none of that was a concern anymore.

“What was canon before is not now.”

So you’re basically saying SNW is overwriting TOS. That definitely won’t put the nerds in a huge angry tizzy lol. And that also suggests SNW isn’t really a prequel at all, just basically a reset of the entire universe ala the Kelvin movies.

This is why I wish they stopped doing prequels altogether because then you run into issues like this.

Or just say it’s in an alternate timeline like the Kelvin films were. Doing what you’re suggesting would only give them more problems in the end.

There are plenty of works of science fiction that take place in settings that are either previous to or concurrent with Star Trek that present considerably far more advanced technology.

It is important to not confuse the limitations of what was able to be done on TV in the 1960s with what would be possible to do in the 23rd Century.

For instance, Roddenberry intended for the Enterprise to be able to land on planets, much like how Voyager would do over a century after TOS, but they weren’t able to do it due to production limitations.

Today, if SNW wanted it, NOTHING would stop them from having Pike’s Enterprise land on planets, which would not make it more advanced for the 23rd Century, it would merely be more advanced from what could be done on TV in the 1960s.

To be fair, as suggested SNW does give TOS a lot of love. It is doing a much better job at reinventing it for the 21st Century than the Abrams movies did.

If Miles O’Brien can get a holographic statue in an undisclosed time in the far future, no reason the same cannot be done with other characters from the previous series in this one.

Great news for this guy! Bet he will do great! Now, back to the only question on my mind.. OG Doctor or Living Witness Doctor?????

I vote latter!!!!

It would certainly be far more interesting if it was.

It sounds like the original Doctor based on their statements..It is odd it wouldn’t be the Living Witness version though so maybe it will be.

Why not both? I’m curious about what happened to both versions of the Doctor.

Wow that would be interesting and we actually got both of them!! Never thought of that but good idea.

That would be great.

Patti Yasutake, an actress best known for her role in “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” died after a long battle with cancer on Monday, Aug. 5 Deadline reported . She was 70.

“Patti was not only a client but a ‘chosen family member,’” Yasutake’s longtime manager Kyle Fritz said in a statement sent to MassLive. “She was the very first actress I ever signed and a friendship of over 30 years ensued. It was an honor to know her, work with her and love her.”

Born on Sept. 6, 1953 in Los Angeles, California, Yasutake played Nurse Alyssa Ogawa on the popular sci-fi “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”

She later reprised the role in the show’s film series as well as the 1994 film “Star Trek Generations.” One of Yasutake’s last TV roles was on Netflix’s acclaimed limited series “Beef,” playing George’s mother Fumi Nakai.

Yasutake made her major feature debut in the 1986 comedy “Gung Go” as Umeki, a relocated Japanese wife earnestly trying to Americanize. She reprised her character in the follow-up ABC comedy series spawned by the movie.

Yasutake also appeared in the 1992 comedy “Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot” and the 1999 drama “Drop Dead Gorgeous.”

The Gilded Age Season 2 Ending Explained

Jon snow sequel series gets detailed concept trailer with the return of daenerys in stunning 3-minute video, linda hunt: net worth, age, height & everything you need to know about the ncis: los angeles actor.

  • Carrie Coon previews The Gilded Age season 3, promising new storytelling without exposition.
  • Coon's comments hint at faster pacing for the Emmy-nominated HBO drama.
  • Despite the promise of streamlined storytelling, season 3 will introduce many new cast members.

The Gilded Age star Carrie Coon shares how season 3 of the historical drama will be different. Written and created by English filmmaker Julian Fellowes, the HBO show revolves around the Russells and the van Rhijns, two neighboring rich families who are locked in a societal conflict involving New and Old Money. The second season concluded with Bertha Russell (Coon) scoring a major win, and The Gilded Age season 3 , which will premiere in 2025, is expected to pick up as change starts to sweep New York City.

Now, in a recent interview with People discussing The Gilded Age , Coon reveals that the highly anticipated new season is set to be different from its predecessors. She explains that the show getting a season 3 was largely due to the fans, and she adds that the new season is doing away with exposition and focusing mainly on storytelling . Read her full comments below:

Chiefly exciting because we didn't think we were getting a season 3. The people watching the show really did save it. It's exciting because we have dispatched with all of the exposition, and now it's all storytelling, we don't have to introduce anyone really anymore. And I feel that [writers] Julian [Fellows] and Sonja Warfield have really embraced our very specific pacing, which is quite breathless actually, a lot can happen in an episode.

The Opera War is over and the Van Rhijn family's future receives a surprising new trajectory as the Gilded Age brings its second season to a close.

The Gilded Age Season 3 Might Fall Prey To Past Issues Despite Changes

The show has added several new cast members.

Coon's comments promising a different kind of storytelling for The Gilded Age season 3 are interesting, particularly when it comes to the criticism that has been leveled at the show. In the past, the series has been called over-stuffed , often filled with a number of major storylines and characters. Coon's preview of what's to come suggests that The Gilded Age has learned to keep things as brisk and light as possible, which would indicate fewer newcomers and extraneous storylines. However, this might not be the case after all.

There is already set to be a host of new faces joining the Gilded Age cast in season 3. For example, it was recently confirmed that Leslie Uggams, Andrea Martin, Bill Camp, and Merritt Wever are among those joining the show, and that's only scraping the surface of the cast members who have been announced. This indicates that The Gilded Age 's world is only going to get bigger , and it will still have plenty of character introductions.

Other actors joining The Gilded Age season 3 include LisaGay Hamilton, Hattie Morahan, Jessica Francis Dukes, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Victoria Clark, and Phylicia Rashad.

When Coon says the show doesn't have to introduce anyone anymore, she could be referring to the core cast . By now, the various members of the Russell and van Rhijn households, as well as the members of society around them, have been well-established. With the main players in place, The Gilded Age can focus on continuing the core conflict at the center of the series, the battle between the old establishment and the new. The new characters joining the season will likely only help flesh out this conflict, and hopefully they won't slow down the pacing.
