The Pit from The Wire: Filming Location

This is "The Pit" from HBO's crime drama The Wire.

It is located on the corner of Druid Hill Avenue and West Preston Street in Baltimore, Maryland.

In real life, "The Pit" is a low-rise housing project called McCulloh Homes.

During the series, it serves as a drug dealing spot for the Barksdale organization. However, it is a much smaller and less prestigious piece of territory than the high-rise complex at Franklin Terrace.

At the start of Season 1, Avon Barksdale demotes his nephew D'Angelo to "the low rises" as punishment for the public shooting of a rival dealer.

In the episodes that follow, D'Angelo supervises Bodie, Poot, and Wallace while they sell drugs.

Although he improves the operation and increases its profitability, it isn't long before a heist by Omar Little's crew throws a spanner in the works.

Episode 1, Season 1 - The Target

D'Angelo Barksdale

Stringer Bell informs D'Angelo that he will be replacing Ronnie Moe in "the low rises".

D'Angelo is clearly unhappy about this demotion:

"How are you gonna put me in the low rises when I've had the towers since summer?!"

In response, Stringer informs D'Angelo that he can take over the towers again if he keeps his head straight and doesn't do anything stupid.

D'Angelo moves to the Pit

The Pit

Wallace and Poot walk over to the orange couch where the gang sits and talks business.

During this scene, D'Angelo arrives to take up his new position.

"Is this the way Ronnie Mo set it up?"

Is this the way Ronnie Mo set it up

It isn't long before D'Angelo realizes that there are some major issues with the operation:

"This is f**ked up. Look, you can't serve your customers straight up after taking their money. If someone is snapping pictures, they've got the whole damn thing."

He explains to Wallace that they should take the customer's money and then send them around the corner, where someone else can serve the product.

By doing this, they can split the transaction into two separate events.

"Motherf**cka got the bone all the way out the damn chicken."

Episode 2, Season 1 - The Detail

Poot and Wallace

While Poot and Wallace are sitting on the couch eating, they begin to speculate about how rich the inventor of chicken nuggets is.

However, D'Angelo is cynical and disagrees. In his opinion, the creator is probably working in the basement on a regular wage.

Bunk and McNulty question D'Angelo

Episode 1, Season 2 - The Detail

Bunk and McNulty

Detectives Bunk Moreland and Jimmy McNulty question D'Angelo Barksdale about the recent murder of state witness William Gant .

Shortly afterwards, he is arrested and taken away.

"Y'all can't be playing no checkers on no chess board."

Episode 3, Season 1 - The Buys

When D'Angelo sees Wallace and Bodie playing checkers on a chess board, he decides to interject and teach them how to play the game. It is during this scene that he delivers his famous "the king stay the king" speech.

The police raid the Pit

The Baltimore Police Department carries out a raid on "the Pit". However, this raid is unsuccessful, as the stash house they're looking for has been moved.

"They used to make steel there, no?" - Vondas

Ziggy attempts to collect money from a white drug dealer named Frog he's been supplying, but Frog won't pay, saying the stash was hit. Frustrated but too soft-hearted to get tough with the dealer, Ziggy leaves, only to be surrounded suddenly by Cheese and his gang. Ziggy owes Cheese for the package he was fronted, and since he hasn't paid up, Cheese drags him from his car, slaps him around and take his leather coat. Cheese warns he'd better pay up by Friday or he'll be dead on Saturday. The dealer takes off in Ziggy's car, leaving him stranded on the corner. Daniels continues to assemble the old gang, surprising Carver by offering him a spot even though he spied on Daniels for Burrell on the last detail. "If I caught him once, he might be the last sonofabitch to try it twice," Daniels says. When Rawls tells Freamon he's being taken off the 14 murders and assigned to the detail, Freamon is skeptical: "Colonel, respectfully, did you just fuck me over without giving me even half a chance to clear this case?" he asks Rawls. Rawls's reply: "Let's be clear Detective Freamon. When I fuck you over, you'll know it." At the Detail Room, his squad mostly assembled, Daniels explains why they're back together and that it's Sobotka they're after. He asks them to figure out where the longshoremen cop dope on a Saturday night and set up some hand-to-hand buys. When Freamon arrives, he explains that Sobotka has been a focus of the homicide investigation of the dead girls in the container. Donette finally visits 'DAngelo in prison and tells him that Avon plans to set him up running a club when he's out of prison. 'DAngelo isn't buying, however, and tells Donette, "They playing you with 'we family.' And 'it's about love.' That's how they do. When they got no more use for you, that family shit disappears, it just about biz." Later, she tells Stringer of the encounter and 'DAngelo's rebuff. "He off the damn hook," she says. Back at The Pit, Poot, now in charge, watches two of his runners accost a junkie who has dissed their dope. Bodie, nearby, returns quickly, angry over the commotion. "Fiend badmouthing our shit," the soldiers say by way of explaining their behavior. Bodie realizes he needs to discuss the quality problem with Stringer Bell. Ziggy shows up bruised and beaten at the Clement Street Bar and tells Nick his predicament. Ziggy wants to borrow $2,700 to get Cheese off his back but Nick says he's given his cash to Aimee for a security deposit and furniture for a new apartment and can't help him out. Nick and a checker named La La visit Cheese to tell him that if he'll give the car back, they can sell it for $3,000 and Ziggy can pay him. Cheese walks them around the corner where Ziggy's car has been set afire. Greggs comes to Valchek to ask for a surveillance van just as the Major is opening a letter from California with another picture of the missing van on tour. He lifts a clean print from the picture, and tells Greggs there's no van available. At the University of Baltimore, Stringer is commended by his economics professor for a recent paper. After class, he asks the professor what the options are for a businessman who has an inferior product in an aggressive marketplace. Bunk and Russell and two other detectives hand out six grand jury subpoenas at the cargo terminal. When they appear before the grand jury, however, the longshoremen reveal nothing. "I've almost got one of them ready to swear that the docks are actually near the water," says a frustrated prosecutor. Bubbles tracks down McNulty and gives him a phone number for Omar, who promptly agrees to show up for the trial. In a vacant house near a drug corner, Greggs and Carver set up surveillance on white dealers, Frog and Dirt. At the diner, Nick tells Vondas and Serge of the grand jury subpoenas, and reassures them that there's no need for worry. Horseface is the only person who knows about their illicit dealings, "and he's a rock." Nick tells them that Sobotka wants to meet with The Greek, and that, until things cool down, no contraband can move through his dock. When Vondas inquires again about the chemicals, Nick demands to know who wants them, but gets no answer. Later, The Greek tells Vondas he doesn't want to meet with Sobotka, but that he'll double his fee to pay for lawyers. When Vondas passes this message on to Sobotka, Sobotka replies that he's done doing The Greek's dirty business. "I got a union to run," he says. Vondas looks across the water to the huge industrial plant now largely abandoned and reminds Sobotka of his union's growing vulnerability. "They used to make steel there, no?" he asks. Frustrated with the investigation, Russell visits Maui, a checker she used to date. She explores the idea of his becoming a confidential informant for her, he refuses, but does tell her that if she wants to understand how containers come and go on the docks, she needs to crack the computer system. Stringer visits Avon in prison and tells him the dope from Atlanta is weak and getting weaker, and that they are barely holding on to the towers, but he's planning to try to repackage the product under a new name. When Stringer inquires about 'DAngelo, Avon responds "Boy gonna find his own way." But with both Avon and Stringer worried about the load 'DAngelo is carrying, Stringer suggests putting some property in his name perhaps, so 'DAngelo can see there's a plan to take care of him. At the Detail Office, Bunk and Russell ask Daniels for a computer so they can run a trace on the missing containers in the port administration database. Freamon pushes Daniels to take on the 14 murders from their Detail Room, since Freamon is convinced the cases are intertwined. Daniels reluctantly tells them they can work the murders on the side, so long as ultimate responsibility remains with Rawls' homicide unit. "Unless," he adds, "you find a suspect." Nick and Ziggy go to the library to use the Internet to look up the chemicals Vondas has asked them to get. They soon figure out that it's not bombs he's interested in making but drugs, since the chemicals he wants are all used to process cocaine. Later, Nick sees Vondas at the diner, who gives him numbers for three more containers Vondas wants retrieved. "Tell your uncle," Vondas says, "there's three times his usual fee there, for each one." Nick also tells Vondas that the chemicals he wants are on the Fairfield pier and that Nick will get them. Vondas realizes how smart Nick is and that he might be worth more to them. When Nick tells his uncle that Vondas wants three more containers "disappeared," Sobotka responds, "I told that motherfucker we were done." But when Nick tells him the fee is tripled, Sobotka changes his mind.

Thanks, it was fun to do and I could do it in stages :) And now I can listen back tracks (and rip em with audacity) when I like. There's loads of great music in there. I really promise that there's gonna be a Dexter update somewhere this week. Maybe I'll try and make a youtube compilation for it with the music.

I will check it out :)

thanks. its the one with the good beat, theres two songs playing I would appreciate it so much

any luck with that song?

nope, I've tried and ask around on the HBO forums and at the comments of the youtube'd scene but didn't come up with an answer. I think this might be the other track though.

avon visits the pit episode

Hi there. I want to know what is the music playing while D'Angelo is getting dressed in episode 6 of the 1st season? It is not on the list so if anyone knows... Thanks. Great blog by the way.

avon visits the pit episode

fabulous effort. it is delight for me to watch the wire online without stupid ads and fun uninterrupted

just a short update. I've got all seasons on dvd so I'm better able to check out stuff, I'm going to pay attention in the end of ep6 (I'm re-watching everything at the moment). I might try and give the links an update too, step by step because they're probably a lot of dead links. Also gonna update with a True Blood-link post.

Muchas gracias..

Any luck identifying the songs played after Cheese got shot on the Wire?

sorry to be such a slowpoke in reacting... nobody seems to know what song they're playing. Maybe I need to check up on the HBO forums again and or mail some of the people who worked on the Wire, especially the one(s) responsible for the music.

Hi! First of all, you've done a great job putting those songs here, but I was wondering what is that song you didn't mention in the season 2 episode 10? It comes after Ziggy shoots that Greek guy and goes back to his car. He starts the car and the radio plays this song while he tries to light a cigarette. The scene can be found somewhere around 30 minutes of the episode. I think it sounds like some rock or power pop from the seventies or the eighties. Does someone recognize that song?

Hi Henri, Thanks :) I'm going to check it out, I know which scene you mean. Might be this weekend though. I'll make a list of the other questions too. I might even check it on that app that recognizes music if I can't find it easier :)

avon visits the pit episode

And does anybody know which track is playing when Dukie walks in on Michael and the girl?

avon visits the pit episode

Awesome list, will be hunting a few of these down for sure! One song I haven't managed to find is the song played in the departing cars when Slim Charles kills Cheese, Season 5 Episode 10? You/anybody know what it is? Would be hugely appreciated. Again, awesome job!

@ Stefan Joseph Thanks :) That song is really hard to find, haven't been able to track it. The problem with some of the songs is that they're made by local artists and are therefore not big hits and hard to find. I've been promising to do another update search, might do it today, the HBO forums are probably the best way to go.

If you want to Download The Wire TV Show and many others then you simply cannot miss amazing opportunity as you will enjoy downloading favorite TV series while saving tons of money.

Great music, great cast and great storyline of this great show called...... The Wire TV Show .

Season 1 / Episode 08: Which song is playing in the background in the scene in the bar with McNulty and Bunk, where Bunk is eyeing up some other woman. -- Cover of Marvin Gaye's Trouble Man.

@ Colin: do you happen to know which artist did the cover?

avon visits the pit episode

Hi all, Great job on the listings. I think the song in Tillman's car at 27:00 in S02E03 is 'So Fine'. I'm not sure on the artist though, might be the Oak Ridge Boys.

Hi Kumamoto Ken, Thanks for commenting. I'll try and check it somewhere this week, thanks.

This is amazing! Thank you!

@ Tulpesh Patel: thanks!

Updated season 2 up to 2.06. I thínk I got the track the play when Sergei intimidates Cheese. Let me know what you think.

avon visits the pit episode

The song you're looking for when Sergei intimidates cheese is "The Game is over- St John This myspace page is the only place I could find it- http://www.myspace.com/stjohntheone/music/songs/the-game-is-over-80850457 - A few other songs in The Wire I discovered- Season 1- Episode 9 when Avon is at his club with Orlando and Wee Bay talking about his long day. A song by J live called "Nights Like This" is playing in the background - Another J Live song called "Satisfied" plays in either Season 1- Episode 11 or 10 when D'Angelo and Bodie are sitting on the couch in the Pit

Thanks Jacob!! I've corrected it :) I couldn't play the full song (only 30secs) at myspace(am I doing something wrong?) so I linked to Amazon where you can listen to a more recognizable sample. Also inserted the info for J Live in 1.09. I've noted down 'Satisfied' by J Live in my notes, I'll check it and insert it in the right episode. I've been noting down évery scene with music...there's still a lot of blancs to fill in :(

No problem man :) And as far as it only playing 30 seconds, I think that's just something they did so people get the full version on Amazon. This is an awesome page though, and I'm watching The Wire again (Just finishing up Season 1) Because I love the music in it too. So I'll be sure and post all my discoveries here!

Will be looking forward to more finds :) I have a hard time skipping through episodes and not stick around and watch more scenes or whole episodes, but otherwise it'll take months to index the scene-song list haha. I'll definately re-watch the episodes again later too.

Got through season 2 and I'm back with more discoveries. I'm gonna start Season 3 up so I'll keep posting what I find as I go along. I think with some of the songs, their harder to find since their either underground artists or alot of times when it plays on the show the sound is muffled and hard to make out. Do you know of a song, I think around when snoop was on, that sounds like a hip hop, school yard song? I know that's Incredibly vague, but can't think of the lyrics. Its about shooting/murder maybe?

Do you happen to know which episode/season? If you've got spotify, try skipping through the list, otherwise it's a bit too vague: 1) snoop on, 2 hip hop 3) track about shooting/murder ;)

Definitely to vague. No luck with spotify. I think snoop and Chris are riding together? But still very vague. Thanks for the help. Will have to watch again , and report back!

Not in my list? Hmm. Chris and Snoop are quite the duo :) Let me know if you can pinpoint the track a bit more.

Hey do you know the name of the song in the 2X12 cold open?

what do you mean by 'cold open'? I'll have a look at 2.12, haven't checked it thoroughly yet. Maybe today, otherwise somewhere this weekend.

just the very start of the episode, before the credits. The song I mean is right after the HBO logo. Thanks for any help.

@ R.A. Huston: I really tried to find it..but the closest thing I could find is: Musiq - Just friends. But I'm pretty sure that just isn't it... I caught the lyric '..I know this might sound strange, but [....]' and searched for that. You might want to have another extensive go at it...

avon visits the pit episode

Hey yo, thanks for compiling this! I hear a couple great ones here. Question - I was just watching this show and I have this one song stuck in my head, it's just an instrumental section of some disco-era song that has these exuberant horns, I'm pretty sure it's playing when you see Orlando before his whole downfall, maybe in his ride, like when he's riding out to meet the guys who turn out to be undercover state police. Any clue would be appreciated, thanks!

you're welcome :) Can you name the episode (IMDB puts him in only 7 episodes, if you could point it out..) I still have to re-watch S1 for the scene-song listing.

What's the song playing in the background when bubbles goes to hamsterdam and has to make bodie re-up also gets himself a discount deal?

@ Harm city god 410 It's not one of the songs I note in season 3? Checking back I don't know why I'm not 100% sure why I don't have a scene for some of the songs. I'll check back.

Hey guys 1 thing I noticed is that alot of the tracks in The show are actually production tracks. For Example the song the plays when Stringer is over at D's girls house in Episode 2.05 is "Down with me"- St John From Black Toast Music Black Toast Music's website lists their albums that were used for certain shows like The Wire, so now the trick is just finding what songs were used were. I'm listening to some on Spotify too from Black Toast and I already heard a bunch that I've heard in The Wire. Its just a matter of figuring out what episode their in

@ Jacobwhitt Thanks! I've added the track and I'll have a look (listen..) too. Added the track you named to the spotify list too. There's currently one other track by St John in the list. I also followed BTM on twitter, I'll ask if they've got a list of sorts. Never hurts to ask :)

Awesome blog! S1 E06 when Avon visits the Pit: the theme is called Wax Box Music Please, help. S1 E08. What's the song playing in the Stinkum's jeep, when Wee Bey with him and Savino takes D'Angelo into resaurant?

Thanks! Corrected the mistake :) I'm going to re-watch S1 somewhere in the coming month to at least make the scene list completer.

I am sorry for my english. This is not restaurant, it's a -Beef run. -Beef run, where at? -Pulaski, baby... About Wax Box. May be it's a Lorem Ipsum the band, not Cytoplastik, isn't it? In the beef run sound Glen Campbell - Gentle on My Mind (1967).

@ Willer: going to check that. Not entirely sure what you meant with the beef run thing.. I can also understand German or Dutch, so if either fits you better?

German or Dutch - no. I study English, but I have difficulties with the transfer of exact sense of what I want to say. With beef run I want to say that people for each essence thought up the exact name. In 1.05 D'Angelo was in a restaurant with his wife. But in 1.08 he and his crime partners were in the fast-food eatery. Wee Bey called it a Beef run. I have read it in the subtitles.

Hi! Can you please tell. what song plays in 3x4 in the club, when Cutty is going to the room with woman?

@ Willer : I'll get back on it this weekend. @ Gyptest: hi! I'll try and find out, in hindsight I don't know why I don't have the scenes mentioned (instead of ...). I'll check back this weekend.

@ Gyptest: found it. DJ Technics - Neva eva extra. I've also made a youtube link to it, can't find it on spotify though (the other DJ Technics (My life extra) track playing in the same houseparty ís in the list though).

Season 2 episode 4: the classical music at the dining room tables is Bach: Brandenburg concertos, probably the 3rd

Thanks Jerome! Added it.

Arjan, please add in 1x08: Glen Campbell - Gentle on My Mind. Wee Bey, D'Angelo, Stinkum and Savino celebrate Stinkum's promotion. But I still wating your help with my question . May I ask you to type the lyrics of this song's fragment? I failed with it.

@ Willer, added, thanks. @ the other question, sorry..haven't gotten around to re-watching s1 with Game of Thrones taking up time and life in general... Checking it now. The things I hear (at least think that's what I hear) are sentences like: 'how many ways can I say it (.......) no means no' and 'You don't understand, I only got 2 letters to send and it only takes a second.' 'no contest no stress, no second guess' I tried google and rapgenius.com but can't seem to find anything so far. I'll add it to the question. Let me know if you dó find the answer :)

I also fixed the Cytoplastic ->> Lorem Ipsum + added the youtube (found via your youtube). If I missed any other questions, please remind me :)

Thanks for your efforts! I found something on your tip-off only got two letters, (only) takes a second to say it no meaning no no conscience, no stress no second guess no bodyguards no questions It's a insertion-refrain (chorus) in some rap song (Chuck D - No, Psycho Voyager - No Meaning No). However this is not the desired songs. Therefore, searching in progress.

Hi! Thanks for you impressive job! I'm desperately searching a track wich is on the episode 1.7 (one arrest), at 37.30 mn. Sorry for my bad english!

Hi Clem, You're welcome :) I'll put it on my to-do list. As for your English, ah well some minor grammar thingies..it's not my native language either. You should see my French (and that after 5 years of classes...) ;) I'm sure I mess up my English from time to time on this blog =) greets, Arjan

I study english for ten years and i'm learning more words on the wire, broadwalk empire or other than in class! If you want you can try to learn french vocabulary on french TV series but good luck to find a good serie^^ Have a nice day!

Best way to learn a language :D Maybe I should try Metal Hurlant in the untranslated version :D

Hey found some stuff one of the songs playing in Season 5-Episode 10 after Cheese gets shot is Wiggle it Jiggle It- by G-$tack Another in Season 2- Episode 8 when Bodie is staking out the opposition is Gangsta Heaven- St John

@ Jacobwhitt: thanks man! I've been wondering about that track after Cheese gets shot for years (and I'm not alone)! :) I don't know why I didn't put the scene from the Q's to the tracklisting below. Added both tracks to the spotify list too :)

No problem! Happy to help! It sounds like there was 2 songs in the background when he got shot. Hopefully the other gets found

there are 2 songs indeed. I've put them in the tracklisting..that is, a link to a track that míght be it (see 5.10). Will have to listen a couple more times though.

@ Willer: I added Chuck D to 1.08 (noting that it's a remix)

Don't forget "Miss fat booty - Mos def feat. Q Tip"... it's like in the episode n. 10 or 11 in the first season... i don't remember exactly... sorry :)

Hi Mattia, Thanks! I'm going to check it out. I'm coming up on re-watching those episodes so I should come across it.

Good work! Thank you

thanks :) You're welcome.

Great listing! I have one question for you or anyone else that may be able to help. In Season 1 Ep 10 (1x10), Orlando is listening to a song with some awesome horns in it when he pulls up to Troy Wiggins' car. This is the scene where he makes the buy that gets him arrested. Does anyone know the song? There are no lyrics in the short time that it's played, only horns. Thanks!

Hey Steve-O, Thanks! I'm gonna check and see if I can find the info as soon as I can find time, won't be this weekend, but next week should be doable. Maybe anyone with shazaam or a similar app?

Shazam is a good idea. I'm going to DL it and give it a go. However, the song clip is only about :20 so I'm not sure if it will work. If it does, I'll post it here.

I found it with Shazam. In case anyone wants to know: Season 1 Episode 10 (1x10) at ~8:55 (I'm watching it on VLC which counts time DOWN instead of UP so that is an estimate). The song clip playing from Orlando's car is "Power of the Dollar" by Kool and the Gang. It's an instrumental, there are no lyrics. The horns are fucking amazing. Thanks for the tip on Shazam and for this awesome listing! S

Somehow I overlooked your last two comments... Thanks! I will add it!!

WOW! Thank you so much for this blog. I have been thinking about the music from The Wire for some time now, just never had the time to do the research necessary to compile a respectable playlist. And, now I have a huge head start. You've done a fantastic job!

Always good to hear it's appreciated :) I'm slowly re-watching S1 and updating the list if I come across things that are still missing. Let me know if you have additional info. greets, Arjan

The Chuck D track in 1.08 is No (The Wreck League Massive Remake) Found it eventually!

Thanks philfyHarry! I added it. I should have some more free time soon to re-watch the last episodes of S1 to see if I can update the post even more :)

Season 2 episode 7 at 46min 50s: The song is Taste of luv from Zee Asha (when Nick is with his girlfriend)

@ Smith Rudy : I'll try and have a look...not much time the next week though. @ ag93130 : thanks! Added it to the listing. Will see if it's also on spotify, couldn't find it on youtube.

I don't know if you missed one on Season 1 Episode 2 or didn't know it it is where Stringer pulls up just as Bunk and Mcnulty are arresting D'angelo YouTube link: http://youtu.be/_u-60DeHvUU It is Kool Keith - Make Up Your Mind And it is possibly and instrumental playing both can be found on Spotify but only the singing 1 on YouTube

Hey JubblyFiles345, I've probably missed it since sometimes there can be so many instrumentals I don't note them down for fear I will never get to find out which track it is (for instance the many piano pieces that are played). But...if anyone finds stuff like this, I'll jump on the chance to add it to the list and to the spotify list :) So, thanks!! Consider it added.

Can you find the song of season 3 episode 4 where Carver telling the cornerboys they can sell. The song you put is not clear.i tried to search for that rap song that look like 50 cents" in da club" but i couldn't find it by any means also i cant hear the song lyrics from the episode due to foreground sounds. @ Edd: Thanks for visiting :) I'll try to look into it this weekend.

Thanks Arjan

Great stuff "Tillman is putting dope into Halls cough drop wrappers Song: Oak ridge boys - So fine (as for the artist: best guess, the Fiesta's sound different)" Was looking for this song. That version of "So Fine" in season 2, episode 3 is by the Chambers Brothers. No self-respecting black man in The Wire would be caught dead listening to the Oak Ridge Boys.

I'll also sum up all your q's which I won't be able to answer because I don't know (yet), directly into the post. Hey man, good work on this list! Any luck finding out the track on s03.e02 about 20 mins in when Bunk and McNulty are in the bar?

avon visits the pit episode

In S1E4, the song playing in the background while Kima studies and Cheryl complains about the blue highlighter stain on her couch is called "Love Stains" and was penned for the occasion by the show's music supervisor and sound designer, Blake Leyh. I know this because Leyh told me so. After a year or two of being driven bonkers every time I watched that scene and finding nothing online despite copious searching, I figured maybe I should just go straight to the source – Leyh's website. That strategy worked out rather well!

Thanks! I'll update somewhere this weekend. There are still so many unknowns!!!

Overview [ ]

Title reference [ ].

The title refers to the cleaning up of loose ends performed by the Barksdale crew, as recommended by their lawyer (see picture) as well as that of the police forced to bring in the case in the wake of the effects of " The Hunt " that "messed up" their case due to the resulting change-up by the Barksdale crew and the tying up of loose ends.

Epigraph [ ]

The epigraph is spoken by Wallace as he discusses his return to "the pit" with D'Angelo, explaining why he can not stay in the country, and why he can't move to another part of Baltimore as everything that he is has been molded into his part of the drug dealing institution of "the pit" meaning that he is stuck in the life the institution forced him into.

Synopsis [ ]

Clean up [ ].

Stringer Bell visits the low-rise projects and collects the whole crew's pagers (including D'Angelo Barksdale , Bodie Broadus , Poot Carr , Manny, Cass and Sterling ). He gives mobile phones and three numbers to Bodie and D'Angelo, instructing them that they can use the phones to organize meetings, but that all business talk will now be conducted face to face.

Avon Barksdale and Stringer meet with their lawyer Maurice Levy . Levy tells them they need to clean up now that they know they are being investigated. He tells them to walk away from Orlando's club, as he probably told the police about it before he died. Levy asks when the trouble started, and Stringer suggests that it was around the time of D'Angelo's trial. Levy suggests that Nakeesha Lyles may be a problem. After Levy departs, Stringer convinces Avon to insulate himself from their crew by passing all communication through him.

D'Angelo meets with Stringer and Avon at the club. Stringer asks him about Wallace and D'Angelo tells them that he has left "the game". D'Angelo appeals to Avon to leave Wallace alone and then leaves. Back at the pit, Wallace returns from the country and asks for his old position back. Bodie tells Wallace that he would have to accept a demotion, but D'Angelo overrules him. D'Angelo takes Wallace aside and gives him advice on how to handle his return. D'Angelo's mother Brianna arrives with a lunch for him.

New approaches [ ]

Cedric Daniels visits his wounded detective, Kima Greggs , and bumps into a drunken Jimmy McNulty outside of her room. He tells McNulty to go in and see Greggs or go back to work. McNulty confesses that he is racked with guilt over his role in starting the investigation in which Greggs was shot. He says that the case does not mean anything. Daniels tells him that the case meant something to Greggs and that they must continue their work and find her shooters.

McNulty arrives at the detail office as Lester Freamon fits Shardene Innes with contact lenses. Freamon tells McNulty that their surveillance is faltering because the Barksdale organization is changing their operating procedure. He has sent Prez out of town chasing the paper trail. Freamon suggests that they have Shardene wear a wire into Avon's club.

Daniels meets with Deputy Commissioner Burrell and Major Bobby Reed to discuss his investigation. Burrell feels that the case is over now that the wiretaps have gone dead. Daniels argues that they still have time remaining on the court order, so they should keep up the surveillance. Burrell tells Daniels that he will not need so many men and orders Daniels to return detectives Santangelo and Sydnor , but allows him to keep Freamon and Prez. Daniels is satisfied with this, as both men he keeps have proved valuable to him over the course of the investigation.

ASA Rhonda Pearlman meets with the State's Attorney, who is worried about the Barksdale investigation looking into campaign donations. He gives Pearlman evidence of returned contributions from unknown sources from his own offices to hand over to the detail. Pearlman is distressed that her investigation is worrying her superiors, as this reflects poorly on her, and she denies any knowledge of the detail's actions. As the records are public, no one had asked for her assistance.

Shardene attempts to infiltrate the office at the club while wearing a wire, but has little success in obtaining pertinent information. Later that night, beat officers find the body of Nakeesha Lyles. Bunk reports the murder to the Barksdale detail and they realize that Wallace may be in danger. Daniels scrambles to organize his men to locate Wallace. Freamon offers to let Shardene stay at his apartment.

Daniels is called into a meeting with Burrell and Senator Clay Davis . Davis is concerned about the detail looking into his campaign finances and the involvement with his driver. Daniels refuses to apologise for the driver's arrest and tells the senator that if he is clean he has nothing to worry about. Davis tells him that he has no idea where his campaign contributions come from. Daniels leaves the meeting and Davis insists that Burrell needs to control him.

As Daniels arrives back at the office, Herc celebrates the results of his sergeant's exam. Carver was less successful and is away on in-service training. Sydnor phones from the shore to report that Wallace left two days ago. Pearlman arrives at the detail to quiz Daniels about the investigation into campaign donations. Freamon trains Shardene in measuring her steps to map the inside of the club. Prez is quick to interpret her findings, again showing his aptitude for math. Using the measurements, the detail installs a camera in the wall of Avon's office from an adjacent vacant building.

Race for Wallace [ ]

Bodie reports to the towers after getting a call on his new phone. Stringer arrives and asks Bodie about Wallace. Bodie tells him that Wallace has returned. Stringer asks for Bodie's opinion of Wallace and Bodie tells him that Wallace is weak. Finally, Stringer orders Bodie to kill Wallace and checks that he has a gun. As Bodie leaves, Stringer calls him a soldier. After Bodie tells Poot about his task, Poot insists that Wallace is using narcotics and therefore not an informant. Bodie counters that if Wallace is using, then he is unreliable and has to go anyway. Finally, Bodie concludes that if they do not carry out Stringer's orders they would be out of the business, and Wallace's death is part of "the game".

McNulty and Daniels visit Wallace's old squat, but find it abandoned and devoid of the extension cables he was using to steal electiricity. McNulty finds an address for Wallace's mother, Darcia Wallace, and he takes Daniels there to see if she knows his whereabouts. She is little help and is more concerned about her next drink than her son being in danger.

Wallace brings Chinese takeout for the young children he looks after. Later he goes out for a meal with Bodie and Poot. When they return home, the children have all left. Bodie and Poot corner Wallace in his bedroom and Bodie draws his weapon. He steels himself to shoot Wallace as he pleads for his life, but is unable to do so until prompted by Poot. After the first shot, Poot takes the weapon and finishes the task.

A new lead [ ]

The next day, Avon arrives to clear his office at Orlando's, and the detail is frustrated at once more being a step behind. Poot has his girlfriend report a dead animal in Wallace's apartment the next day so that the body will be found. Bunk investigates the scene and recognizes Wallace. Avon meets with D'Angelo as the office is emptied and asks him to drive to New York to receive their next package. He tells D'Angelo he wants him to do it because he is family and he feels he can trust him. With this information, Daniels and McNulty borrow a tracking device from the FBI and install it on D'Angelo's car as he changes his clothes.

D'Angelo is stopped by traffic police and then brought in by the detail. McNulty and Daniels interrogate him without a lawyer. D'Angelo is wary, having been tricked by McNulty before. McNulty tells D'Angelo that Wallace is dead and he does not believe him.

Brianna berates Avon for letting D'Angelo get arrested. Stringer and Levy visit D'Angelo and he asks about Wallace. Stringer cannot answer him and D'Angelo becomes enraged when he realizes McNulty was telling the truth. He refuses to let Levy represent him.

Daniels meets with Burrell to discuss this new development. Burrell suggests that this arrest is sufficient and that the case is over. Daniels thinks that D'Angelo will give them more if pressured. Burrell questions the relevance of Daniels men looking into campaign finance and then threatens him with the FBI's report on his excess capital. Daniels refuses to back down and insists that he will continue with the case as long as he has time on the wiretap affidavit. He threatens Burrell, willing to go down for the Eastern District allegations claiming that it will eventually happen anyway, but will reflect with bad press, something according to Daniels that Burrell is most afraid of.

McNulty and Daniels watch the SWAT team prepare to arrest Avon. McNulty tells Daniels that they should make the arrest, and they go in together. Daniels cuffs Avon but McNulty lets Stringer go, telling him they will catch him later. At the office, Freamon, Prez, and Sydnor review the board. Freamon adds a newspaper article about a rehabilitation centre being built in an area where the Barksdale organization has been amassing property. Sydnor tells them the case is the best work he has ever done, but he still feels that it is not finished. At the low rises, the dealers' orange sofa stands unused. [1] [2] [3]

Max has given a 15-episode, straight-to-series order to drama The Pitt , starring and executive produced by Noah Wyle ( ER, The Librarians ). R. Scott Gemmill ( NCIS: Los Angeles, ER) will serve as showrunner of the series, from John Wells Productions and Warner Bros. Television.  The project marks a reunion for Wyle, Gemmill and Wells, who all worked together on ER.

The Pitt is produced by John Wells Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, where JWP is under an overall deal. Gemmill will write the first episode and executive produce the series alongside Wyle, Wells and JWP’s Erin Jontow, Simran Baidwan and Michael Hissrich.

“We are grateful to Warner Bros. Television and Max for giving us this opportunity to return to the world of urban medicine,” said Gemmill, Wyle and Wells. “The myriad of challenges facing the doctors, nurses, technicians, patients, and their families who work in the trenches of modern medicine have become only more pronounced in the decade and a half since we last visited their stories. We’re thrilled to be able to return to this world with the support of our partners and are looking forward to pushing the boundaries of dramatic realism and medical accuracy in following the lives of these heroic men and women.”

Wyle is perhaps best known for playing Dr. John Carter in ER, which Gemmill and Wells executive produced. Wyle also starred in TNT’s sci-fi series Falling Skies as well as TNT’s The Librarian franchise. He is currently executive producing The Librarians: The Next Chapter, the CW’s upcoming spinoff of the fantasy adventure series.

Gemmill is coming off a 14-season run as writer-executive producer on NCIS: Los Angeles, which wrapped its final season in May. He’s currently a writer and executive producer on Call Me God , a television adaptation of the DC sniper Audible series which is in development at Paramount+.
