Colosseum Private Tours

About colosseum private tour.

For an exclusive and unforgettable experience of the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill , a private tour of the Colosseum is the ideal choice. With the expertise of a professional tour guide, your time in ancient Rome will be well spent and you will come away not only with a deeper understanding of ancient Rome but an entirely new appreciation for the ancient Romans and their way of life.

This private tour includes skip-the-line access to the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. During this 3 hour tour you will see the major highlights of the monuments as well as the hidden details of the site that most visitors miss. With just yourself and a local guide, you will truly have a VIP experience of the Colosseum like no other.

The beauty of choosing a private tour of the Colosseum lies not only in the depth of knowledge you will receive but in the flexibility of the itinerary. The tour can be tailored to your needs and the guide can spend more time in areas that you find particularly interesting. A Colosseum private tour is a great option for families with children that are studying the Ancient Roman Empire as well as for those with limited mobility that might fall behind during a group tour.

For visitors that are keen to visit the Colosseum’s restricted areas, a private tour can also accompany you to the Colosseum Arena Floor or Colosseum Underground (the underground portion may be presented by a Colosseum staff member). With a private guide, the tour of the Colosseum is a relaxing and enjoyable experience. You won’t have to worry about large groups or waiting on other travelers.

Taking a private tour of the Colosseum is a wonderful way to explore the hidden treasures of Ancient Rome and its history at your own pace!

  • Climb the Palatine Hill and explore the ancient remnants of the emperor’s palaces as you enjoy beautiful views of the Circus Maximus and Roman Forum. Choosing a Colosseum Private tour allows you to explore more of the Ancient City than you normally would on a standard group tour.
  • Dive into the layers of history that cover the Roman Forum and get a glimpse into the daily life of its ancient inhabitants. Your guide will be able to go into detail about ancient Roman life as you explore what remains of the temples.
  • Soak up the atmosphere and the history from your personal tour guide as you stroll past broken columns, triumphal arches and impressive facades. The Roman Forum is by far one of the most picturesque places in Rome.

Visitor Highlights

roman colosseum private tour

  • Embark on a journey to see the greatest archaeological treasures of Ancient Rome with a Colosseum Private Guide. You will visit the Colosseum as well as the archaeological area of the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill.
  • Strolling through the Ancient City with your private guide and enjoying the amazing panoramic views of Rome. Most group tours don’t take the time to visit the entirety of the area, but with a private Colosseum tour you can.
  • Having a private guide will ensure you get personal attention from the guide and have ample opportunity to ask about topics that interest you the most. You can spend more time exploring the things you love the most about the Colosseum.
  • You will be able to stop for photos, take breaks and spend more time in areas you find inspiring. Of course learning the history is the highlight, but it is also important to capture the moment with at least a few great photos.
  • Your tour guide will walk you through the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill while detailing its incredible history. This is the most inspiring place in Rome where you can really feel the presence of the Great Roman Empire.
  • Skip-the-line access means you will enter the monuments after a brief security check (wait times can vary depending on capacity). One of the perks of choosing a Colosseum Private tour is that you don’t have to wait around for a large group to get through the security check.
  • The guided tour will last for approximately 3 hours. You will have plenty of time to explore the imperial palaces on the Palatine Hill, the ancient temples in the Roman Forum and, of course, the world-famous Colosseum.
  • Official guides of Rome are available in multiple languages so you can enjoy the visit in your native language!

Travel Tips

  • Make sure to arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled start time, this will ensure you have enough time to find your Colosseum Night Tour meeting point.
  • While there are a few on-site toilets at the Colosseum, the waiting time can take a while. So be prepared!
  • You won’t find any luggage facilities, restaurants or cafes on-site.
  • All of the entrances to the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill have a mandatory security check. This check cannot be avoided and is necessary for the safety of all visitors.
  • Only small bags are allowed inside the Colosseum. No luggage or bags with wheels are allowed.
  • Do not bring weapons, aerosol sprays or glass containers.
  • The people with reduced mobility can easily access the Colosseum as paths at all the available routes are marked. Some tours may not be wheelchair accessible, so be sure to check the tour details or opt for a private tour.
  • It is highly recommended to get your tickets ahead of time online and because tours for the Colosseum at night sell out fast.
  • The Colosseum tour prices vary and can cost anywhere from 30€ up to 100€, or more. The type of tour you choose will be reflected in the price and duration of the tour.

Perfect Colosseum VIP tour!

This tour is the closest I’ve felt to a VIP. Our guide, Stefano, was very attentive and made suggestions on what we might like based on our small comments! He also asked us what interested us most and then spent 30 minutes discussing the Colosseum’s supposed naval battles. His entire focus was purely on us, and I felt very taken care of. Also, this tour includes privileged entry to the Colosseum, which is great! Highly recommend booking this tour if you want to explore the Colosseum in peace!

A journey back through time in style

I visited the Colosseum for the first time on this private tour, and it was one of the best experiences of my life! First of all, the sheer size of the amphitheater left me speechless, and then our guide started explaining the history of the gladiator battles, which impressed me even more. The tour wouldn’t have been the same without her - she answered all my questions, and I learned so much!

HIERARCHY OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE

During this Colosseum private tour, you’ll learn about the Roman Empire’s social hierarchy. Gladiators were nearly always slaves or prisoners of war and wildly despised by the Roman people. But, there was also division among standard citizens. For example, only the Emperor and senators could sit in the best seats in the Colosseum (the ones closest to the arena). Below them sat the Equestrians, who were the second tier of the elite class. The worst seats were reserved for women, the poor, and slaves.

After visiting the Colosseum, your guide will lead you to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. You’ll pass through privileged entry and skip the line, avoiding any waiting times. Colosseum Private Tour

Did you know that the Colosseum had VIP sections and ticket stubs?

There were 80 entrances to the Colosseum - but the north entrance was specifically reserved for the Emperor. Other high-ranking citizens could use the east, south, and west entrances, and the remaining 76 entryways were for common citizens of Rome.

In ancient times, a Colosseum 'ticket' was actually a part of a broken pot, which had a seat number carved into it. This helped each spectator identify and find their designated spot in the amphitheater.

Good to know before you go

  • Please note that you must pass a metal detector security check to enter the Colosseum.
  • It is required to bring a photo ID - either a passport or an identity card. This also applies to children.
  • We recommend wearing comfortable shoes and bringing a bottle of water so you can enjoy the tour as much as possible.
  • This private Colosseum tour is available in English and Spanish.

Private Tour

Rome colosseum tour.

This is the de facto, fully private tour of the majestic Colosseum of Rome with your own expert archaeologist guide.

No other Rome tour comes close to unearthing as much history of the Colosseum as this two-hour walk into a bygone world when men and beasts clashed for the pleasure of the people of Rome!

Meet your archaeologist guide beside Trajan’s Column, its beguiling bas-relief a story which tells all passers-by of his victories in the Dacian Wars (101 – 106 AD).

From there, we approach the Roman Forum and stroll back in time to the core of Rome in antiquity. This is where historical fact blurs with mythology. Most emperors were adored and adorned, others slain, several forgotten, some deified! You will hear the best-known names such as Julius Caesar, Augustus, and Mark Antony; indeed, the full historical scope of Imperial Rome and the Roman Republic which preceded it will be delivered by your expert archaeologist guide.

Just a few steps away, the mighty Colosseum awaits. Enjoy privileged skip-the-line entrance granted to you by us through the Gladiator’s Gate. Once inside, you will be able to walk across the original arena floor with your guide, marveling at the 360-degree view of the Icon of Rome while hearing about the making of a gladiator and what the games meant to Romans.

After exploring each level and all the views, your guide will leave you to explore further on your own should you wish. After the Colosseum, make your way over to the Palatine Hill, where, according to the legend of Romulus and Remus, two baby boys washed ashore on the banks of the River Tiber and grew up to found the great city of Rome.

Our guides in Rome & Tour Description

Italy Travels tour guides staff is represented by licensed guides of great experience and high level of professionalism, competence and excellence on their job. All Italy Travels guides are authorized by the provincial administration of Rome and most of them are art historians and teachers in art subjects. All guided tours organized by Italy Travels always include pre-reserved museum tickets when museum tours are included in the tour itinerary. In this way visitors avoid waisting time waiting in line in front of museums ticket offices.

Our professional licensed guide will focus completely on you and your needs for three hours. When we go inside the Colosseum — the Flavian Amphitheater — we immediately grasp the power and grandeur that the emperors wanted to impress on the people of Rome. Inside, your guide will tell you about the Colosseum's architecture. Your guide will also detail its long, many-parted history. You will be shown the monument's many varied spaces and areas and hear how they were used.

The tour will continue to the Roman Forum, once Ancient Rome's main center. This area was key to Rome's culture, economy, and administration. You will tour the Roman Forum strolling through its many ruins, some very well preserved. Your guide will tell you how the Forum was arranged and how it looked in the times of Ancient Romans.

Two arches particularly amaze for their majesty in the Forum, just a few steps from the Colosseum: the Arch of Constantine and the Arch of Titus. These two monuments' sculptural qualities show us the stylistic changes through the eras. A triumphal arch's key purpose was to celebrate victories, trophies, and conquests of the emperor they were built for. Both arches are lavishly decorated with bas-reliefs of great artistic quality depicting scenes of war and triumph.

Next, your tour to discover Ancient Rome comes to the Palatine Hill, a significant site for Rome's origins, as It was here that the first huts were built where the future capital's very first inhabitants lived. This amazing tour is definitely not to be passed up if you want to truly get to know the Eternal City!

Your full tour Description

Vip colosseum underground, arena & ancient rome tour, one day private tour.

Personal attention, an experienced and knowledgeable guide and an unforgettable experience. That is what we guarantee with all of our private tours.

Have you ever wondered what lies beneath the surface? Let our expert guide transport you back 2000 years by taking you down deep into the recesses of Rome’s largest amphitheater. Explore places off the beaten tourist path, places that not even Roman citizens dared venture into. Don’t waste your valuable holiday time standing in line! Book a private Colosseum hypogeum tour with us and walk right into the depths of the Colosseum, making the most of every minute you’re in Rome.

On our privileged entrance Colosseum underground tour, see firsthand these underground rooms where the gladiators and wild animals waited before being unleashed for the enjoyment of the spectators packed like sardines in the stands above. Your knowledgeable guide will walk you through this tour of the Colosseum underground, giving you a full history and answering any questions you may have. During your Colosseum underground and arena tour, your private guide will paint the image in your mind of what it was like for the slaves 20 centuries ago, forced to fight to the death.

This intimate guided tour will show you the gritty history of the Colosseum underground. Your group will get exclusive access to the underground and arena floor. From these fantastic viewpoints, you will gain a unique perspective on the games the Romans watched here. You’ll also get a feel for what an average workday was like for the gladiators of Ancient Rome.

Next in the guided tour of the Colosseum underground you will take a trip to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill to experience how the patricians saw things. The Palatine Hill looked over the Roman Forum, and it was no accident that the elite ruling class of Rome resided there, eventually becoming home to the Emperors, who built such large residences that the word “palace” takes its name from the hill. Another reason for the importance of this hill was its legendary connection with the birth of Rome. A visit to the Palatine Hill is a must if you want to understand how the Romans felt about their city.

Book your Colosseum underground tour today and experience life from a gladiator’s perspective.

The Best Rome Colosseum Tours

As the most enduring symbol of the Roman Empire and one of the most famous landmarks in the world, the Colosseum receives more than 6 million visitors per year – which means it's not easy to escape the crowds. A visit to see the world's largest amphitheater – once known as the Flavian Amphitheater – is well worth it, though.

Inside the ancient complex, there is very little signage explaining what you're looking at, which is why tours are a popular way to explore. A good tour will not only get you skip-the-line access but also bring this incredible place to life.

Keep in mind that most Colosseum tours only give you access to the arena floor and upper level. If you want to visit the hypogeum (Colosseum underground), you need to make sure it's included in the tour.

Price: From 499 euros per person (about $548) Duration: 2 hours and 45 minutes

For a deeper understanding of the Colosseum, a private tour with Elisa Valeria Bove, CEO of Roma Experience, is one of the best you can take. As an archaeologist, Bove has been involved in excavations at the Roman Forum and other historic sites. Her Colosseum tour typically includes the Roman Forum, Palatine Hill, the Arch of Constantine, Via Sacra and the House of Vestal Virgin. Be sure to specify if you want to visit the hypogeum (Colosseum underground) when you book.

Roma Experience organizes bespoke private tours throughout Italy, including multiday itineraries. Bove will work with you to customize your experience and bring you to places you wouldn't think to visit, like Quintili's Villa on the ancient Appian Way.

Best for Families: LivTours – The Best of Colosseum & Ancient Rome With Exclusive Arena Access

Price: Adults from 139 euros (about $153); kids from $124 (about $136) Duration: 3 hours

Recent visitors praise the guides on this tour for bringing the stories about ancient Rome to life and entertaining everyone along the way — kids included.

Upon booking this tour, participants receive an invitation to download an app. During the tour, the guide gives everyone a cardboard virtual reality headset that works with the app and shows a reconstruction of the Colosseum and the surrounding valley. After visiting the Colosseum, the tour continues to the Palatine Hill and Roman Forum, where the virtual reality headsets show you a reconstruction of the Circus Maximus and the structures in the Roman Forum. At all the sites, you get skip-the-line access.

These semiprivate tours are guaranteed to have no more than six people, making them a more personalized experience than other group tours. However, because the tours are small, the guides don't use headsets, and some participants note that it can be difficult to hear the guide over the noise in the Colosseum.

Price: From $60.46 per person Duration: 1 to 1.5 hours

A nighttime tour of the Colosseum not only affords an opportunity to see the famous landmark aglow, but it also allows visitors to avoid some of the crowds and high temps that come with a daytime visit. Recent tourgoers say they enjoyed the tour for these reasons, also noting that the guides are excellent. However, many wish the tour were a bit longer (or priced cheaper considering its short duration). The tour does not cover the Roman Forum or Palatine Hill.

Evening departure times vary by time of year.

Rome Tours offers a variety of other tours throughout the city, from a comprehensive daytime tour of the Colosseum to a bar crawl .

Colosseum Private Tour

  • 9.40 / 10 87 reviews | 1,861 travellers We arrived 25 minutes early and the guide was right at the point indicated and ready. Vicenzo was very eloquent, entertaining and friendly from the first minute. He kept the whole group very attentive to the explanations and managed the timing excellently. He really showed great passion and I dare say he is the best guide we have ever had. Clear, deep explanations, but above all very entertaining so as not to make the journey heavy (which it physically was). In the end we took a photo with him as a souvenir. Tour Description

Discover ancient rome on a small group tour .

A walking tour of Rome is the perfect introduction to the city, covering the most important archaeological sites. You’ll discover the truth behind the legends of the gladiators and the arena on your Colosseum tour , and gain new insight into this magnificent monument. Continuing on your Roman Forum tour, as you stroll through the atmospheric ruins, your expert guide will help you to understand the politics and power plays that animated the ancient city. Then there’s the peaceful Palatine Hill, where the history of Rome began with Romulus and Remus. You'll visit the impressive remains of the imperial palaces and admire the stunning views of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum from the top of the hill.

With an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide to lead the way, you’ll end your in-depth tour of the Flavian Amphitheater, Forum and Palatine Hill with a much greater understanding and appreciation of Rome - a city that continues to amaze its visitors nearly three thousand years later.

Our groups are small, with a maximum of 10 people, and we buy all our tickets in advance so you can skip the lines and spend more time exploring Rome, rather than waiting around.

Learn about the bloody spectacles of the ancient games

The ancient Colosseum is undoubtedly the most amazing monument in Rome, built on a vast scale in less than ten years. The spectacles that took place here were like nothing seen before or since, and they were designed to entertain not only the people of Rome, but also the emperor himself.

The gladiatorial games are legendary, and on your tour of the Colosseum you’ll learn the difference between fact and fiction. But you’ll also discover that truth is often stranger than fiction, as you hear stories of wild animal hunts, mass executions, naval battles, and violent re-enactments of Greek myths that all took place in the arena. You’ll learn about everything that went on behind the scenes, including the amazing machinery that made the spectacles possible and so popular. For the rare opportunity to descend into the Colosseum’s Underground to see these machines and mechanisms up close, check out our Colosseum Underground Tour .

There was more to the games than meets the eye, and the entertainment at the Colosseum also had an important political role. Your expert guide will help you to understand the Colosseum in context, explaining what the games meant not only for the slaves and gladiators who took part, but for the whole of ancient Rome.

Explore the heart of ancient Rome in the Roman Forum

A Roman Forum group tour is an opportunity to learn about Roman history in the very place where the events took place.

These atmospheric ruins were once the political heart of the ancient city. You begin in front of the Senate, the imposing building used for the meetings and heated debates of the Republic. In the gardens and the House of the Vestal Virgins you’ll learn about the extraordinary lives and deaths of the priestesses who were tasked with ensuring Rome's sacred flame remained forever lit. We'll also visit the basilica of Julia and the basilica of Maxentius, the most important courthouses of the ancient city. The famous public trials that took place in these basilicas contributed to the fame of great historical figures such as Cicero and Caesar, whose orations were highly praised by their contemporaries.

Your walk through the Forum continues with a visit to the temples, as you explore the impressive ruins of the temples of Saturn and Castor and Pollux. Here you’ll learn about the Roman gods and the early days of Christianity, which often overlapped in unexpected ways - as you’ll see at the temple of Antoninus and Faustina, an ancient Roman temple that was transformed into a Catholic church. On your group tour of Rome you’ll also walk along one of the most important Roman roads of all, the Via Sacra, where you can still see the wheel-ruts of the carriages that passed over its flagstones for centuries.

The triumphal arches are another highlight of our visit to Ancient Rome, and you’ll be amazed by the Arch of Titus and the Arch of Septimius Severus, which dramatically represent the conquests of the Roman Empire.

See the palaces of the emperors on our Palatine Hill tour

Often overlooked by other tour companies, the Palatine Hill is one of the most beautiful parts of the ancient city. It’s also the oldes: according to legend, this was the place where the young and abandoned Romulus and Remulus were discovered by a she-wolf, and where Romulus eventually founded the city of Rome.

For centuries it was the most desirable part of Rome, as the lush hill offers stunning views of the city. The villas of the Roman aristocracy were later replaced by the enormous, luxurious villas of the emperors. On your Palatine tour you’ll explore the vast Flavian Palace, the Baths of Septimius Severus, and the Stadium of Domitian. These ruins are impressive in their own right, with their colonnades and mosaics, but hearing about the excesses the emperors indulged in here will give you a whole new perspective!

The Palatine Hill is also the perfect place to escape the heat of the city. Take a relaxing stroll in the shady Farnese Gardens of Pope Paul III, where you’ll learn about Renaissance Rome and enjoy an unparalleled view of ancient Rome - this is sure to be one of the most memorable parts of your experience.

Frank was a fabulous guide. His knowledge, experience and psssion was shared with the group. He was careful of us as it was very hot and was mindful to keep us in the shade as much as possible. Great tour!

Renee - Aug 26, 2023

Our Italian-American guide was the best of the best. She was very knowledgeable and very enthusiastic about her job! She as also very patient with me and my semi-limited mobility. She provided an alternate to me visiting one of the sites and provided me with elevator access in the Coliseum. That way I could appreciate the full extent of the tour without affecting other tour members' experience! Would definitely recommend Through Eternity tours to anyone visiting Rome!

The Roman Colosseum is a must-see attraction in Rome, but not many visitors are lucky enough to get hold of exclusive Colosseum Underground tickets. As one of the few companies who have access to these coveted tickets, our Colosseum Underground tour sells out fast. The Colosseum Underground and Dungeons

Used for storing slaves and animals, the Hypogeum (or Underground) featured two levels and an entire network of Colosseum tunnels underground. This is where gladiators, wild animals, and the condemned awaited their gruesome fate. Led by a professional English-speaking guide, explore this behind-the-scenes area of the Colosseum, where an active archaeological dig is still going on.

As you walk around this incredible part of the Colosseum, your guide will tell stories of the likely uses of the chambers and dungeons that once hid underneath the original Arena Floor.

Arena Floor and Gladiator's Gate

Ascending to floor level, you'll step back in time as you trace the footsteps of warriors through the imposing Gate of Death (or the gladiator's gate) and out onto the reconstructed Arena Floor. This is the heart of the Colosseum and where the savage games took place.

Visit the opening to the reconstructed trap door and hear your guide describe the wild animals and battles that once fought here to the delight of ancient Roman society. It's a unique chance to imagine the fear and adrenaline that competitors must have felt so many years ago with the deafening screams of 60,000 spectators.

First and Second Levels of the Colosseum

As part of your guided tour, you'll also visit the first and second levels of the Colosseum. The views from these parts of the arena provide an excellent opportunity for photos. Your guide will tell you more about the brutal games the Colosseum spectators once witnessed, as well as the rich and influential Romans who watched from high in the stands.

All our tour guides are experts in the archaeology and history behind the historic sites we visit, including the Colosseum. Learn why "Colosseum" is just a nickname, why women didn't sit with men, and perhaps even the modern device that kept everyone protected from the sun.

Roman Forum and Palatine Hill

After your in-depth Colosseum tour, you'll talk the short walk to the Roman Forum for a guided tour with skip-the-line tickets. This was once the beating heart of ancient Rome, and you can imagine daily Roman life unfolding as you walk through the ruins of the Temple of Julius Caesar, the Arch of Titus, the Roman Senate House, and much more. Your guide will bring it all back to life with tales of Mark Antony, Cleopatra, Caesar, and more.

Sandwiched between the Roman Forum and the Circus Maximus, your final stop the historic Palatine Hill—a place we like to think of as the Beverly Hills of ancient Rome. This awe-inspiring area of towering pine trees, majestic ruins, and unparalleled views were where Romulus was said to have founded the city in 753 BC. This is also where Rome's emperors lived in opulent luxury.

Don't miss out on this unique Colosseum Underground tour—tickets sell out fast!

Outstanding, fun, full of information

Marianna was our beautiful, charming and passionate guide who brought the Coloseum to life for our small group. She effortlessly overcame any challenges and brought a smile to everyone she encountered. We learned sooo much and the underground area of the Coloseum was mind blowing. We were lucky also to enter the Emperor's wife Livia's house and every few steps there was something interesting. We just loved it all!

Semi-Private Colosseum Tour the way to go!

The semi-private Colosseum tour with underground is the way to go. Our guide was great and it was truly a VIP experience. With thousands of people at the Colosseum we were the only 7 people taken through a private gate and into the underground. VIP treatment continued on the main floor with a private roped off walkway to the arena floor. Our group of 7 all agreed this was one of the main highlights of our Italy trip.

Great morning in Rome!

We loved this tour, not too long at 3 hours but crams a lot of history into that time. It did move fast so you have to be aware and keep with the group as it’s easy to get lost amid the throngs of tourists. We had a small group of 7 and an amazing guide, Mariana, who was knowledgeable, engaging and passionate about the history. The underground is a must see, absolutely amazing!

Pompeii Day Trip from Rome | Semi-Private Experience

best private pompeii tour

What to expect

LivTours’ Pompeii Day Trip from Rome Tour is the perfect semi-private tour for travelers who are visiting Rome and want to experience a bit of southern Italy.  Touring Pompeii allows you to dive into the past, immersing yourself in the expansive and unique archaeological ruins that have attracted travelers for centuries. With your expert guide and group of no more than six travelers, you will explore the archaeological excavations of Pompeii.  Buried under a blanket of ash during the eruption of Mt Vesuvius in 79 AD, they remained until 1500 years later when excavations started.

Your Pompeii Day Trip from Rome is a semi-private tour which means you will be touring this archaeological site with a maximum of six people in your group.  This makes your tour more personalized with an emphasis on quality over quantity. Optimize your time as best as possible while on vacation and stick with smaller groups, so that no time is wasted and you have direct contact with our guide. A semi-private tour is a great way to meet like-minded people and enjoy your tour to its fullest!

Why book this tour

  • Sit, relax and enjoy the comfort of our luxury vans
  • Get privileged access into Pompeii
  • Be amazed by one of our archeologists in this still active site

Read more about your Pompeii Day trip from Rome

LivTours’ Pompeii Day Trip from Rome starts by meeting your expert chauffeur at a pick-up point in central Rome.  Knowing you are in excellent hands, this is your time to sit back and enjoy the panoramic views as you are comfortably transported to Naples. Once you are in Naples, your driver will take you to see one of the most vibrant parts of the city!

This is the Italy you have seen on TV and in movies, so get your cameras ready to  capture this bustling city center, as well as the magnificent Gulf of Naples. This picture is a perfect city with clothes drying on lines that cross the streets, typical windowsill scenes and the  carefree (sometimes hair-raising) attitude of scooter drivers.  All these factors add up to making Naples the vibrant urban city of the south!

No trip to Naples is complete without tasting its food. Ask most Italians and they will admit that anything from Naples is somehow tastier! That is why LivTours offers you a light lunch of typical pizza and a drink in Naples to get you ready for the second part of the day. Come see for yourself if what they say about Neapolitan food is true. Buon appetito!

THE STUNNING RUINS OF POMPEII

After you have finished lunch, your driver will take you directly to Pompeii. You will be met by your professional archeologist guide who will immerse you in this well-preserved archaeological site on a 2.5 hour journey into the past. You will enjoy privileged access to Pompeii, so you will not waste a minute of your tour! You will see for yourself how the ancient Romans designed this thriving ancient port, and trading town as you piece together its history with the help of your expert Pompeii guide.

One of the beauties of a semi-private tour is that you can ask as many questions as you like and satisfy your curiosity for history. Your Pompeii tour will take you to explore the archaeological site in depth. You will learn about  the forum of Pompeii, the homes of its residents, the public baths, the temple of Isis, the house of the gladiators and of course all about that fateful day 2000 years ago, when the residents of Pompeii were buried alive.

Once you have finished your tour of this active excavation site, taken in the beautiful views and learned about its history, your driver will take you back to Rome in comfort, allowing you to enjoy the rest of your evening in Italy’s capital.

This Tour Includes

  • Full day Chauffeur from central Rome
  • Skip-the-line tickets to Pompeii
  • 2,5 hrs tour of Pompeii
  • Pizza Lunch on the Gulf of Naples
  • Drive tour through Naples

Know before you go

  • Pompeii is an active excavation site and the suggested itinerary might need to be altered to depending on the archaeologists’ daily duties.
  • We can accommodate dietary restrictions such as vegetarian or gluten-free. Please specify your food needs under “Additional Notes” after booking.
  • This tour is semi-private and therefore does not include hotel pick-up. The meeting point will be listed on your voucher

About our Semi-Private tours

All LivTours Semi-Private Group Tours are limited to 6 guests per tour guide. Our commitment to maintaining our uniquely tiny group sizes can sometimes be a little tricky, mathematically speaking. For example, we want to ensure that traveling families and friends can tour together so on rare occasions we may add one or two guests in order to not split groups. On that same note, you may also find yourself on tour with less than six people! We thank you for your understanding and flexibility .

Multiple tours with LivItaly

Our family (2 adults, 2 children ages 14 and 10) did three tours with LivItaly during our recent trip to Rome (Colosseum with Underground/Roman Forum/Pallatine Hill, Early Entrance Vatican Museum with Sistene Chapel/St. Peter’s Basilica, and Pompeii Day Trip with Amalfi Coast. All guides were fantastic and very knowledgeable. We loved the small group size. Would highly recommend.

Highly recommend this tour

During our week in Rome, we took one day for a day trip to Pompeii. Taking the train was very easy and we were met at the entrance to Pompeii by our really friendly guide named Giorgio. He was ready with smiles and laughs and plenty of bottled water. Pompeii is much larger than we had imagined so we were especially relieved to have a guide to help us navigate the ruins. Giorgio made ancient Pompeii come alive for us -- both as a thriving city as well as what happened during the tragedy of the volcano eruption. We were enthralled with his stories and his wonderful comunication skills. Thanks to this tour and to Giorgio, we had an amazing time.

Wonderful experience! Great memories!

While in Rome with our daughter (age 13), we were somewhat concerned about the difficulties of taking a day trip to Pompeii. But by booking this tour with LivItaly, the worries and difficulties vanished. We were met at the train station by the smiling LivItaly rep who got us on the correct train and gave us all the information we needed. At the Pompeii station, again, our smiling LivItaly guide was waiting for us with snacks and bottled water and honestly, we felt completely pampered for the rest of the day. Pompeii is definitely worth a visit but had we done it on our own, we wouldn't have enjoyed it even half as much as we did on this tour! The pizza down south is to die for!!
