Comedians Coming to Boston in 2023
Dec 14, 2022 | Boston Comedy , Boston Events , Upcoming Comedian , Upcoming Comedy Shows
Some awesome comedy shows are coming to Boston in 2023. There is a slew of upcoming comedy shows to see in the New Year, and Boston has some of the best comedy club options. So, of course, whether you’re going to grab a slice of pizza and see a local comedian or you’re looking for a big name you saw on SNL, there’s really only one place that’s going to bring it to a large stage, and that’s at the Comedy Connection .
Upcoming Comedy Shows in Boston
While it seems like all Boston Comedy Clubs are booking some amazing talent, let’s take a look at some upcoming comedy shows we’re most excited about. First, starting in Mid-January, you’ll be able to see one of the legends of Comedy, Sinbad himself. Considered one of the 100 greatest standups of all time, according to Comedy Central, Sinbad will help kick off the season right with his unique stand-up performance.
Then if you’re looking for some snarky yet spot-on humor, you can also find T.J. Miller performing at the Comedy Connection at the end of January. You may recall him as a supporting character for Deadpool as well as one of the primary characters in the big comedy hit Silicon Valley.
Of course, if you find yourself free in early February, then you’ll be able to grab a show with Lebanese / American comedian Nemr . He grew his name by touring in the Middle East, only doing standup in English, and becoming a sensation in the region. He’s then since moved to the states to help bring laughter and joy while breaking down barriers.
Maybe you’re looking for that comedic power that’s currently the host of The Daily Show and seeing Trever Noah offer talents with a Boston Comedy Show come April. He has been able to take the mantle of the Daily Show and continue on its great comedic production value, consistently helping the show to win Emmy nominations year after year. You can find him at Boston’s best comedy club from 4/5 to 4/12.
Suppose you’re looking for some offbeat humor before seeing the Trevor Noah special. In that case, you can see at the end of February Stavros Halkias , who has done an excellent job offering humorous insight into the simplest things in life.
Don’t miss out on the best comedy shows in Boston
2023 is going to bring a full year of awesome comedy as more comedians come back from time off due to the pandemic. So there’s no better way to help with the winter thaw than going to grab a bite to eat and catch a Boston comedy show this season to be able to laugh with friends and loved ones. The Comedy Connection strives to bring the best talent in the industry to Boston so you can catch your favorite comedian.
Of course, the comedy scene is great for finding lesser-known comedians, so always stay on the lookout and get some laughs from people that may one day soon become famous.

Legendary comedian, writer and producer Larry David is bringing his tour to Boston.
"A Conversation with Larry David" is set for April at MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston.
The show will be an informal discussion about his career, including "Seinfeld" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm."
“Hi everyone! It’s Larry. I’m really looking forward to seeing you all. Just so you know, I’ve recently had plastic surgery on my face and the doctor, who everyone raved about, totally botched it, leaving me devoid of all expression,” David is quoted in the announcement about the show. “So, if I seem more sour than usual, that’s the reason, but don’t let it stop you from having fun!”
Tickets went on presale Jan. 31 at 10 a.m., and general sale starts Feb. 2 at 10 a.m. on Ticketmaster.com.

Comic Matt Rife is thriving as a repeat offender
On his latest comedy special, Matt Rife shows off his new tattoo of John Lennon. A simple, quarter-size image of the late singer’s bespectacled face circa 1966, it’s a tribute to Rife’s “Papaw,” the Beatles-loving grandfather who urged him to pursue stand-up comedy.
Rife, who headlines a whopping six shows this weekend at the MGM Music Hall at Fenway (that’s potentially 30,000 tickets), has had a monster year. He released three full hourlong specials, two on his YouTube channel (including “Matthew Steven Rife,” which was dedicated to his grandfather, Steve Rife) followed by his first for Netflix, “Natural Selection.”
He has also attracted ample backlash due to the brash, unsparing nature of his comedy. Much the way that Lennon, his granddad’s idol, was castigated for claiming the Beatles were “more popular than Jesus,” Rife courts controversy .
“Let’s see who gets offended,” he says at the outset of “Matthew Steven Rife.”
The fact that many of his fans mistake his Lennon tattoo for Harry Potter attests to the median age of Rife’s audience (he’s 28). There are a lot of women at his shows: “I’m realizing right now I need more guy fans,” he says in “Natural Selection.” With an every-day-in-the-gym physique and cheekbones you could set a drink on, he proudly flaunts his appearance.
“Good looking is not good for comedy,” as he says near the beginning of “Only Fans,” his first comedy special, which arrived in 2021.
Rife has been working toward a stand-up career for more than a decade, getting his start at the green age of 15 at the Funny Bone in Columbus, Ohio, about an hour from the rural town where he grew up. Even then, he was ambitious: He reached out to a comedian he admired, Dane Cook, who invited Rife to visit him in Los Angeles after he graduated from high school. Eventually, Rife began traveling with the Arlington native as an opening act.

Cook recognized a fellow traveler . Just as the older comedian once built a huge, devoted following on the old MySpace platform, he saw Rife taking full advantage of the newer social networking services. Today, Rife has more than 18 million followers on TikTok and more than 7 million on Instagram .
And like Cook before him, Rife has been grappling with detractors who resent his success. Some can’t get past those high cheekbones. Some seem to be put off by his relentless “dude/bro” language, his “y’alls” and his hip-hop slang — none of which sets him apart, particularly, from his male peers.
Mostly, though, it’s the material that gets him into hot water. The same social media universe that has helped make Rife a star has, of course, become an unruly forum for performative outrage and grievance, and his approach to comedy is set up to stir that pot.
“Everyone wants to complain about every joke ever told,” he protests in “Matthew Steven Rife.” Be that as it may, he welcomes the fight. He’s like an all-star-caliber professional athlete who takes motivation from all those unnamed “haters” and “doubters.”
Rife, who has talked openly about struggling with anxiety and depression , has argued against the practice of combing through a public figure’s social media history looking for incriminating posts. People change, he notes: Look at Malcolm X, who served time for burglary, or Maya Angelou, who was once a sex worker. Or Chance the Rapper, who “used to be good.”
In his live act, Rife gleefully dances around every third rail. He has developed extended bits involving wheelchair users, trans people, his Black friends, school shooters, and women of all kinds. Women who consult crystals and star signs and Ouija boards are a recurring theme.
After identifying a burly audience member wearing eyeliner as a gay man at the beginning of one of his specials, Rife says, “Thank you for coming out. Twice.”
He’s undeniably fast on his feet when it comes to crowd work , the audience-interaction portion of his shows, abundant clips of which helped propel him to stardom. Fans seem only too eager to share some of their most intimate stories to see how he responds — almost unerringly, with maximum raunch.
In addition to his three recent comedy specials and his fast-growing touring commitments, Rife found time to star in last year’s independent feature film “Don’t Suck.” Written by Western Massachusetts native Rick D’Elia, it’s the story of a veteran comedian who welcomes an up-and-comer to tour with him. The newcomer — Rife — turns out to be a vampire.
After the heady ascent of the past year, it’s perhaps unsurprising that his most recent special resorts to some hackneyed subjects (airline travel — it’s annoying!) and his emergence as a target for the thought police. Like the guy on his tattoo, it seems, he can’t help but feel persecuted.
“I’m a nice person,” he says. “I never want to hurt anybody’s feelings.”
At MGM Music Hall at Fenway. April 19-20, 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.; April 21, 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. $49.50-$115. crossroadspresents.com

Expect sunny skies for today's Boston Marathon and appearances by some of the city's most beloved celebrities, including former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski and former Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara. Gronk will serve as the race's grand marshal, while Chara will run his second Boston Marathon .
Gronk will deliver the trophy to the finish line ahead of the athletes today and tour the marathon course. Last year's winners, Evans Chebet for the men and Hellen Obiri for the women, both from Kenya, are back in hopes of winning the $150,000 first-place prize, while approximately 30,000 runners and para-athletes will hit the streets in hopes of securing a PR (that's a personal record).

Who is expected to win the 2024 Boston Marathon?
After not racing for a year due to an Achilles issue, 2023 Boston Marathon champion Evans Chebet is back -- the only man in the elite division who has won the race before. Hoping to win his third Boston Marathon, the Kenyan runner would become just the fifth man to do so. Expect Ethiopia's Sisay Lemma, Tanzania's Gabriel Geay and Kenya's Albert Korir to be strong contenders looking to dethrone Chebet.
As of this article's writing, 11 elite women runners who all run sub-2:20 marathons are scheduled to compete in today's race, which makes the women's elite competition exceptionally fast -- and exciting. 2023 women's Boston Marathon winner Hellen Obiri enters today's race as the favorite. She'll be joined by Ethiopia's Worknesh Degefa and American Emma Bates , both of whom are looking to give Obiri a run for her money.
What is the prize for winning the Boston Marathon?
Winners will split over $1.2 million in prize money this year. First place runners in both the men's and women's division will each earn $150,000, while the second and third-place runners will receive $75,000 and $40,000, respectively.
In the wheelchair division, the top winner will receive $40,000, and the second and third-place winners in this division will receive $25,000 and $12,000, respectively.
The top finisher in the master's division will receive $5,000, while the para-athletics division winner will receive $2,500.
How long does it take to finish the Boston Marathon?
Entrants must finish the race within six hours from the time the last starter enters the race. 2023 men's top finisher Evans Chebet finished in 2:05:54, while women's top finisher Hellen Obiri finished in 2:21:38. The average finish time is approximately 3:40.
