These travel outfit ideas include plenty of wardrobe essentials you'll use while at home or away anyway. Think: the best joggers , high-waisted leggings , loungewear sets , and a go-to tee you'll want to wear every single day. There are great straight-to-the-office outfits, too, if you're headed right to a meeting from the airport. Of course, we also included travel must-haves like compression socks and a silk sleep mask for long plane rides.
Everything here can easily be rolled up and tucked into a bag, too. Maybe you don't need that wrap in the warm weather outside, but you'll step inside to the freezing cold air conditioning and thank yourself for being prepared. No matter where you go, remember that life is all about the journey, not the destination. You might as well look and feel good all the while. So grab these smart travel outfit ideas and bon voyage! ✈️
These rank at the top of best jogger lists because they truly are that comfortable. The fabric is super soft and the semi-relaxed fit lets you move around with ease. With over a dozen colors to choose from, you can go basic with black or gray or pick your favorite color. Either way, you'll never want to take them off.
This tee is a one-size-fits-most powerhouse. It's oversized without looking sloppy and has comfy 3/4-length sleeves and high side slits for a fashionable touch. The 100% cotton slub fabric is airy and light, making it perfect for wearing loose, tucked in at the front, or knotted at the hip. You'll want one in every color!
If you tend to get a little chilly when the air conditioning hits, you need something to lay over your shoulders and arms. Enter: this stunning cashmere and silk blend scarf! You can wear it as is, draped over your outfit, or as a scarf under a jacket.
If you need an extra layer but prefer sleeves, go with an open cardigan style. This wrap is made of breathable, stretchy fabric and it has pockets! It also comes in over a dozen colors and is available in sizes XXS to 3X in regular, petite, and tall lengths.
You can absolutely splurge on an expensive pair of leggings if you live for that kind of comfort. But when Amazon has a buttery soft pair for under $25, that means you can buy an extra one for when you get to where you're going, too. With over 20 color options, you'll have plenty of outfits to coordinate.
The great thing about a dress is you can go straight to the beach or brunch as soon as you arrive to your destination. This one is made of a soft jersey knit blend with a tie waist that you can make as tight or as loose as you want. The fabric also has UPF protection so you really can wear it straight to the sand!
A casual look just isn't quite complete without a go-to hoodie. Reformation offers an oversized yet stylish option, available in a neutral almond shade and basic black. It pairs perfectly with their boyfriend sweatpant for a matching set, but will also go with everything you have in your closet.
If you want to buy a matching set to coordinate, this option makes the list of best loungewear because of the 17,000-plus reviews, 25-plus color options, and soft, stretchy fabric. Tuck in the front of the top and scrunch up the cuffs on the bottom a little bit for a super trendy look.
Oh, you want more matching stuff, you say? How about this four-piece set? It comes with super soft cotton/modal blend reversible tank, turtleneck tunic, pants, and a duster. You'll also get a travel pouch to hold them all...so it's actually a five-piece set!
Sometimes the problem with traveling from one place to another is the drastic change in the weather. Go prepared with a packable jacket. This bestseller is water-resistant, has a hood, and wraps into a tiny little pouch for easy storage. It's also available in ten other colors!
Dr. Scholl's Knee-High Compression Socks

If you're getting on a plane, compression socks will work wonders for your circulation, especially on long trips. The mild compression keeps them comfortable on your calves, so you don't feel like you're wearing a medical device. They also keep your feet comfy if you've got to trek through the airport.
The Perfect Pant

Does the perfect pant exist? Spanx sure thinks so! This high-waisted flare has four-way stretch, hidden shaping technology, and doesn't have a pesky zipper or button. Just pull them on and you're ready to go from travel to meeting in no time. Oh, and they are machine washable, too.
Untuckit Button-Down Shirt

If you need a dress shirt to go with your pants, look no further than this wrinkle-free, stretch cotton button-down. It also features button placement that avoids those dreaded open gaps you might get on other shirts.
Kizik Lima Sneaker

With extra cushy foam outsoles and a breathable knit construction, you'll be able to wear these everywhere from errands to travel to checking out the sights on vacation. The best part? Though they have laces, they are actually slip-on shoes!
Silk Sleep Mask

Catching some z's is tough when you're en route. Block out the light in comfort with a silk sleep mask. Not only will it give your eyes a rest, but silk does wonders for your skin. So, you don't have to worry about weird creases on your face when you wake up.

8 Cute Airport Outfits for Women Who Don’t Sacrifice Style for Comfort

Although the days of flying in your finest clothes are long gone—and thankfully so—the art of airport outfits is still just as important in the age of Instagram. It’s an imperfect science: Dressing too formally can leave you uncomfortable for hours, while going too casual can feel embarrassing. The secret? Mixing high-low staples like sweatpants , cute sweaters , white sneakers , and T-shirts into pulled-together (and extremely comfy) outfits.
Dressing to the nines is out of the question, especially if you're going long-haul, so put down the stilettos (yep, even the most comfortable heels ) and look toward your loungewear collection for inspiration. Comfort is king when it comes to cute airport outfit ideas, but with enough consideration and some creative styling, you won’t look out of place in first class or coach alike. The details— affordable designer bags , oversized sunglasses to mask the lack of sleep on a red eye, and versatile layers to keep you comfortable no matter how much pressurized air is blowing on you in the cabin—make all the difference.
From tried-and-true athleisure looks to meeting-ready ensembles that you’ll want to wear all day long, these are the best airport outfits to wear on your next flight. (And don’t worry: There are plenty of slippers and Amazon leggings to choose from.)
1. The OG airport outfit
Sometimes you can’t beat the classics. These four pieces are iconic for a reason—they each look good and play a key role in getting you to your destination as comfortably as possible. A gray sweatshirt and black leggings will always look good together without causing you to freeze or overheat. A baseball cap, meanwhile, keeps flyaways firmly in place. And sporty sneakers are easy to slip off when you’re going through security and springy when you’re getting through a seemingly endless walk to your gate. Perfection.

Everlane The Baseball Cap

New Balance 574 Core Trainers
2. The comfort-first airport outfit
Flying is stressful enough on its own—you don’t need to make it any tougher for yourself by fussing over an outfit. This best-selling matching set from Amazon comes in 26 colors and has earned rave reviews for its soft, lightweight fabric. Pair it with slippers that are just as durable as sneakers, like Ugg’s celeb-beloved Tasmans , and pat yourself on the back for getting ready in less than five minutes.

Prettygarden Two-Piece Tracksuit

Ugg Tasman Slippers
3. The plane-to-meeting airport outfit
We’ll be the first to admit that flying in business attire sounds like torture, even if it’s a necessity when you’re headed straight to a meeting or a conference. These soft, stretchy picks, though, will change your mind. Both this relaxed blazer and these smart pants offer just enough give and are made from wrinkle-resistant materials, meaning you’ll look fresh even after sitting for hours. Paired with these comfy cult-fave ballet flats and minimal jewelry, you’ll feel (and look) like a boss.

4. The stealth-wealth airport outfit
Whether or not you’re heading straight from the airplane to a luxury hotel, you deserve to look like that person. This chic airport outfit will serve you well. Zara’s matching turtleneck vest and knit pants just look like money, even if the entire set costs less than $75. Add to the luxe vibe by way of your accessories, including don’t-talk-to-me sunglasses and slightly edgy studded flats. Mentally, we’re in first class.

5. The vacation airport outfit
If you want everyone to know you’re off to somewhere relaxing, this is the airport outfit for you. Pop on a graphic tee and some linen pants that’ll keep you cool once you reach customs—and just keep a sweatshirt or cardigan on hand if you get chilly. Accessorize with some beach-ready picks, including a woven tote bag and some cherry red shades. And while shoes are up to you, you really can’t go wrong with airport-friendly walking sandals .

6. The sporty airport outfit
If travel is your middle name, then a practical jet-set airport outfit is probably more your vibe. 7. The inter-climate airport outfit
When your destination is at a wildly different temperature than your home, layering is your friend. Throw a bold cardigan over a white T-shirt and you should be set for nearly any climate. Meanwhile, denim should get you through most temperatures—and note that these midrise jeans have plenty of built-in stretch to keep you from feeling constricted. Top it all off with easygoing sneakers (with on-trend metallic details) and you’re set.

8. The red-eye airport outfit
Heading somewhere far-flung and catching a night flight to get there? You’ll need a warm and comfortable ensemble to snuggle up in. Instead of going straight for pajamas—a little too informal—opt for a vintage-inspired hoodie and some soft, perfectly cut pants. Fuzzy socks only add more comfort, and a silk eye mask (which offers the same benefits as silk pillowcases ) will help you get plenty of shut-eye.

32 Best Women's Loungewear Sets for Long Travel Days
By Madison Flager and Paris Wilson

All products featured on Condé Nast Traveler are independently selected by our editors. However, when you buy something through our retail links, we may earn an affiliate commission.
Some may argue that traveling by plane is an occasion to dress up, but for most of us at Traveler, comfort is the main priority when planning a transit day ensemble: You want something loose enough that you won't need to readjust (or worse, unbutton) a few hours into a flight or road trip, but put-together enough to feel that you've made a switch out of pajamas and into a true outfit. Luckily, there is no shortage of loungewear sets these days.
Read on for 32 of the best loungewear sets to add to your travel wardrobe , many of which are sitting in our editors' dresser drawers. From upscale sweatsuits to cozy cashmere knits, they'll keep you comfy whether you're sitting on a plane, train, or in the passenger seat, and will get a re-wear on lazy vacation days when the only item on your to-do list is lounging around the Airbnb .
This article has been updated with new information since its original publish date. Additional reporting by Meaghan Kenny.

Buck Mason is at the forefront of elevated essentials. The Vintage Interloop set features an oversized crew that has a relaxed fit all around and thinly ribbed stiching on the cuffs to give more structure to the slouchy sleeves. The French terry sweatpants are slimming and so comfortable. Each set looks slightly different than the other, thanks to Buck Mason's Venice Wash technique that creates its cool, vintage look.

Kim Kardashian's shapewear and loungewear brand Skims never misses when it comes to cozy sets. The Cotton Fleece collection is a more sporty take on classic loungewear. The soft fleece shorts have an interior drawstring at the waist for a more customizable fit.

If you prefer something a little more roomy, the Oversized Tee and Harem Pant set from This is J is for you. It’s perfect for long-haul flights and road trips where comfort is at the top of your list, but you don’t want to step out in your pajamas. The soft, moisture-wicking fabric will keep you dry and comfortable whether you’re snuggled up on a train or plane.

This set is made for cold weather. The thick fabric will keep you warm and toasty whether you’re hanging inside with friends or out sightseeing. The top has a dropped shoulder sleeve that looks more oversized while the pants feature a wide-leg with a drawstring waist.. The set comes in 10 solid colors that are easy to pair with a slip-on sneaker or Ugg boots .

The soft ribbed knit of the Muse hoodie and sweatpant offers a lot of dimension to the duo. The set is lightweight enough that it can be worn over workout clothes without any bulkiness. The high-waisted joggers pair well with the cropped hoodie and offer a more chic silhouette.

You’ll be comfortable from head to toe with this ultra-soft pullover and pant set. The pants have a classic ‘70s wide-leg silhouette accompanied by an elastic waistband, while the pullover has a polo-inspired collar and a slightly cropped hem. An all-white set never goes out of style and will look great with a white sneaker .

Made from a blend of merino wool and cashmere, the luxuriously soft fabric of the Cashmino Tunic hoodie and joggers is hard to beat. We love this set for its sophisticated yet cozy look.

The name tells you everything you need to know. The Coziest Cashmere Blend hoodie and jogger are ultra-soft. The fabric is warm yet breathable and the fact that it’s a blend gives you peace of mind that it won’t be ruined in the washing machine.

Traveler editors swear by Lunya's washable silk pajamas and cashmere Travel Set . The brand’s Silksweats complete its holy trinity of comfort. With a sherpa interior and thermoregulating abilities, you'll be comfortable without overheating in this set. Bonus: Both pieces are reversible so you can have two looks for one.

We're always raving about Girlfriend Collective, a size-inclusive, sustainably- and ethically-made brand. While much of the ReSet collection is sold out, this cropped sweater and pant set are a great replacement, made from half recycled, half organic cotton. They're available in your classic neutral colors, as well as this rich wine hue.

Late last summer, True & Co. dropped its first loungewear line, expanding upon its uber-comfortable bras and undergarments. Rather than stick with the same basic cuts, they launched with a cropped wide leg pant and oversized long sleeve, both in a soft, jersey sheet-like fabric. Order the separates in blush, charcoal heather, mushroom (shown above), or crushed berry.

There's something to be said for a zip-up sweatshirt, even if they've largely been replaced by pullovers of late. For one, if your temperature flips from chilly to warm, you can regulate without bothering your seatmate while trying to take off your hoodie. We're a fan of the sweatpants, too: the deep pockets, cuffed ankles, and cashmere fabric are all plusses.

A new addition to OV's ultra-soft, lightweight, and durable CloudKnit line-up : this boxy T-shirt with a slightly cropped fit. It comes in charcoal, navy, mocha, fog white, and jasmine blue, all of which will match your go-to black leggings or joggers .

Awarded one of Oprah's Favorite Things in 2020, I was eager to put on Cozy Earth's ultra-soft joggers, and am happy to report they lived up to the hype. Made of a mix of premium viscose from bamboo, acrylic, and spandex, they're smooth and cool to the touch, and have a loose but not baggy fit. I've worn them a ton on WFH days, and would happily fly in them. Snag a matching pullover if you like the matching set look.

San Francisco–based Quince launched a maternity collection, which includes a nursing-friendly long sleeve and lounge joggers with an adjustable drawstring waistband. All of the collection's pieces are made with renewable materials like Tencel lyocell, a biodegradable fiber made from wood pulp; mulberry silk, a hypoallergenic and thermoregulating fabric; the company's SuperSoft fabric, a blend of recycled polyester and tencel; and sustainably- and humanely-sourced Mongolian cashmere.

Outdoor Voices’ All Day hoodie and sweatpants set really is made to wear from dusk to dawn. It aims to be the softest pair of sweats you will ever wear, and stacks up, with a CloudKnit fabric that feels as cozy as your most worn-in pair of pajamas. The sweatpants are high-rise and more fitted toward the bottom to give the most flattering look possible, too. The pieces can be bought individually and come in six different colors, from neutral charcoal to a rich Kalamata purple.

While former Traveler editor Jessica Puckett's favorite cashmere set has since sold out, Cuyana's Pima outfit is another great option for plane travel and lounging, particularly in warmer environments, as the material is soft, smooth, and breathable.

Former Traveler editor Corina Quinn turned us on to Vuori's DreamKnit Collection hoodie and jogger set. “The DreamKnit feels like a cloud—it's so soft and cozy, yet lightweight, so you don't get too hot or too cool in them,” she says. “On top of that, because there are a few different models of jogger pants and tops, my friends and I have all found a model that's flattering for us.” For a pair of sweats that make you feel like you’re wearing a real outfit without actually doing so, Vuori’s unbelievably soft, stretchy sets are an easy pick.

Friend + Folk is a size- and gender-inclusive brand that prioritizes a limited carbon footprint, and puts it into practice by way of free carbon neutral shipping, recyclable and plastic-free packaging, limited batch-production, and more. The Joon joggers are a favorite—the fit is roomy and comfortable yet still tailored, and the zippered pockets are ideal for stashing AirPods, lip balm, and other odds and ends without worrying they'll fall out as you dash through the airport. Pair them with the Perry pullover and you've got a new airport uniform.

Lululemon may be best known for its leggings and workout wear, but don't skip over the brand's loungewear. This set is made out of a smooth Softstreme material that is stretchy and feels smooth against your skin. It's a great loungewear set to wear if you run hot.

We love this Madewell number, made of a fleece-like Superbrushed terry fabric. Wide legs and a loose fit make it just the kind of thing we want to wear on long travel days, and the patch pockets are much appreciated. Since it does have tank top-style straps, bring a cardigan or other added layer for the plane.

Allbirds has been expanding its offerings from shoes and accessories into athletic and loungewear, using the same environmentally conscious (and carbon neutral) production process. This crewneck and sweats set is best for loungewear purists who want something simple, and comes in white or black, as well as limited-edition colors like hazy pine, terracotta, and true navy.

Some loungewear is better suited for inside wear, like this cozy ribbed shorts set. Wear the pullover, with its bell sleeves and slit in the back, over leggings for long-haul flights. The stretchy shorts have a fairly short inseam, so they'll likely be more comfortable as a sleeping short or loungewear piece to change into when you arrive at your hotel or rental house.

This two-piece set might be the closest thing to sleepwear on this list, and yet is still cute enough to feel confident while wearing through the airport. It comes in a dozen colors, from basic heather gray to bold indigo blue, and pairs slouchy, relaxed fit pants with a scoop-neck button-up henley.

If this brand sounds familiar, you may have worn one of its face masks—initially a scrubs outfitter, Jaanuu has since ventured into loungewear. The result is a super stretchy, super soft hoodie and jogger set you'll want to wear on every flight (and maybe to a workout class, too).

Sure, all sweatpants are designed to be comfortable, but the cotton, modal, and spandex fabric Knix uses takes things up a notch. The smooth, cooling, and slightly stretchy fabric feels fantastic against skin and looks a bit more put-together than typical sweatpant material.

Most loungewear tends to follow the same cut, so we appreciate Monos, a luggage brand , shaking things up when delving into clothing. This set is as soft as any sweatpants out there, with a mid-length wide-leg pant and a short sleeve V-neck tee that's just slightly cropped.

Anything labeled Signaturesoft nails both the rest day and flying-comfortably mood we're going for. The top and bottom have a streamlined shape and the sweatpants are tapered at the ankle. Both pieces are made of a comfortable rayon, acrylic, and spandex mix, so you’ll feel cozy while still looking put together. The sweatshirt and sweatpants can be purchased individually and come in nearly a dozen colors should you want to mix and match, and the sweatshirt passes the video-conferencing-chic test, in that it looks more like a standard sweater than workout wear.

Not a hoodie person? You might like this cowl-neck top, which comes with cropped pants, both made of a super soft jersey and spandex fabric. Shop the set in gray, sky blue, strawberry, or buttercream, and wear it on your next overnight flight to feel like you're in pajamas.

If you didn't get on board with sweat shorts during the stay-at-home early pandemic days, it's not too late: Ideal for warmer climates or people who run hot, Reona's riff of its best-selling cotton joggers pairs well with the loose-fit crop T-shirt , a travel wardrobe staple made of bamboo fabric.

You may never want to put on pajamas again after wearing Softwear's Lounge Set. The fabric is buttery soft inside and out. Both the pullover and joggers are tailored and fitted with a clean silhouette—the top could pass for a normal sweater—while still being ultra soft. Plus, it’s long-lasting: The sustainable fabric is pilling-resistant and made to keep its shape after every wear.

Made for pregnant or nursing moms, this Everly Grey set is designed to fit a baby bump and make nursing easier with side openings on the top. Made of stretchy fabric with cuffed ankles and wrists and pockets on the hips, it's a loose, ever-so-slightly tailored look you'll wear again and again. Order it in one of four neutral colors: black, charcoal, oyster pink, or denim blue.

Do you tend to reach for one outfit all the time in your closet? The same can be said for travel outfits. Our readers share their recommendations for the all time best travel outfits so you can feel comfortable and chic wherever you go. Find out what they said!
The Best Travel Outfits
As you can guess from our name, we’re all about traveling fashionably while still staying comfortable and weather-appropriate. We’re also big on capsule wardrobes and packing minimally.
With this in mind, we asked our readers the ultimate question:
If you could only wear one outfit every single day for an entire trip, what would it be?
Here’s what our readers say are the best travel outfits:

Cardigan | Top | Bag | Sunglasses | Earrings | Skirt | Lipstick | Flats
Feminine Chic
“ A sleeveless top, cardigan, black skirt, and ballet flats . I think that could be dressed up or down for most of my activities.”
If you prefer dresses and skirts to pants, this is a great travel outfit idea for summer or warmer spring and fall seasons. This type of outfit can easily be dressed up or down, so you can take it from day or night.
For cooler seasons, swap the sleeveless top for a sweater and add tights. Another reader recommended adding a scarf to this look for a pop of color or warmth.

Backpack | Boots | Dress | Lipstick | Leggings | Necklace | Palette
Winter Romance
“ Merino wool dress or tunic, black leggings, necklace, and ankle boots. ”
When we envision strolling down the old cobblestone streets of Europe, we think of this outfit. There’s nothing more comfy and cozy yet chic and sophisticated as a dress with tights and boots.
Even if you don’t normally wear dresses, a merino tunic with leggings is a nice alternative, and is comfy enough for plane rides while stylish enough for a dinner at a nice restaurant.
For ankle boots, go for a flat heel if you plan on walking a lot, or a short heel for dressier occasions.
You can still pack your light in a small suitcase even when you travel in winter by using packing cubes to compress your clothing as shown in this video !

Hat | Jeans | Sunglasses | Bag | Top | Earrings | Sandals | Lipstick | Sunscreen | Cardigan
Beachside Casual
“ My distressed girlfriend jeans, a white or black tee, long open cardigan, and my flip flops !”
As much as dressing up is fun, there’s nothing better than jeans and a tee. Girlfriend jeans are the most comfortable jeans style. To keep from looking sloppy, go for a slimmer fitting tee.
When you’re by the beach or in locations like Florida or Southern California, take along a duster cardigan for warmth and flip flops for shoes.
And if you aren’t a fan of jeans, another reader recommended swapping denim pants for a maxi skirt.

Top | Scarf | Longsleeve | Bag | Earrings | Leggings | Spray | Boots
Airplane Comfort
“ Comfy leggings, a soft material t-shirt, ankle boots, and my Icebreaker long-sleeve shirt layered over the t-shirt in case it gets cold.”
Planes are notoriously horrible in terms of temperature. Sometimes it’s freezing, while other times it’s stuffy and hot. This outfit is the perfect solution.
We recommend workout-type leggings, which help you keep a steadier body temperature. The t-shirt will keep you comfy if it gets warm. If it’s cold, layer with the long-sleeve shirt.
Ankle boots will keep your feet warm, too. For an easier trip through security, go for a slip-on or zip style bootie so you can quickly slip them on or off. Or, pull on some compression socks for comfort.

Cardigan | Watch | Top | Earrings | Sunglasses | Shoes | Bag | Jeans
Sporty and Stylish
“ Jeans, a tee, a boyfriend cardigan, and Superga tennis shoes .”
So many readers recommended the ultimate three-piece outfit formula: jeans, a tee, and sneakers. One recommended black jeans with a white v-neck tee for classic sophistication. Or, go for more colorful options if you’re traveling to South America, Spain, or another location known for color.
When it gets cool, layer with a boyfriend cardigan or an open chambray button down top.
And for sneakers, we can’t get enough of Superga . White is perfect for a preppy style, while black or grey is great if you’re worried about getting them dirty.

Bracelet | Sunglasses | Sandals | Dress | Lip Balm | Necklace | Bag
Fashion Meets Function
“If I had to choose just one outfit, I’d go for a simple black dress and Birkenstocks with my favorite leather fringe necklace .”
A black dress is the perfect combination of fashion and function. Black never goes out of style, and you can go longer without washing it. You can easily transform it with jewelry and scarves.
As for shoes, we love Birkenstocks! They’re the comfiest sandals with amazing support. There are so many styles, too, so there’s something for everyone.

Blouse | Coat | Scarf | Lipstick | Bag | Flats | Pants
Classic Sophistication
“ Black ankle-length pants, a white button down blouse, ballet flats, a trench coat and silk scarf .”
When you’re traveling to France or Italy, what better than to take a styling cue from Audrey Hepburn! A white-button down is always a classic option, and there are a number of non-ironing styles, too.
Another reader recommended this same outfit but swapped the flats for loafers and the black pants for dark skinny jeans.

I find it almost impossible to withstand the cold (-2-10), specifically in England, by wearing tights under a dress. I’ve tried thermal with jeans, freezing cold still. I’ve tried fleece lined pants, still very cold. I pair them with tall leather boots. I’m allergic to wool, so wool base layer is out. What can I do to keep my legs warm if I choose to wear tights? I was thinking thermal under the dress, but then I’ll bulk up and the “look” isn’t quite going to be there. ?
Hi Eunice, thanks for your question! For other options please take a look at these posts for some ideas: https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/tights-for-women/ https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/how-to-pack-for-cold-weather/ https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/how-to-pack-for-cold-weather/ Hope this helps 🙂
Thank you, Alex. I’ve been following your page for sometime now and have benefitted greatly from the articles I’ve read. This is still very tricky for me. What I meant is that if I still choose to wear a woollen dress, yet still feel freezing cold with fleece lined tights, do you think it’ll work if I wear another layer of thermal under the tights? Wouldn’t that bulk up, hence less attractive looking? I don’t have ultra slim legs to begin with ?
Hi Eunice, If you’re wearing a dress I’d wear a pair of regular black tights under a pair of fleece or warm leggings. It’s warmer than you’d think :). Hope this helps!
I’m going premium flight to Barbados and I want to wear a dress with 3” wedges, I’ll change my footwear for the flight. I’m 5’1 and size 16. I’m aware that I’m limited but I’m going to find a creaseless fabric probably navy spot or tan. I fancy midi length. Have you any ideas please? I’m 61 years of age but still like to dress trendy.

Because one-piece outfits make everything easier

When it comes to choosing the perfect travel dress, a few key things are important. Comfort is essential, of course—whether you’re boarding a 12-hour flight to Buenos Aires or taking a two-hour train ride to Chicago, transit probably isn’t the time to bust out a form-fitting bodysuit or complicated romper situation. Flowy, breathable, lightweight fabrics are essential. However, that doesn’t mean you have to trade style for a potato-sack-like dress or sweatpants. Travel dresses should be comfortable, stylish, and versatile enough to wear for any occasion.
The type of fabric you want will depend on your destination, and machine-washable fabrics always make the trip home that much easier. Lastly, consider the fit. A snug elastane option is comfortable to move in and transitions well to dressed-up affairs. On the other hand, if you have a long journey that ends in a locally-owned B&B, a flowy pick is the way to go. We've researched the best travel dresses for every scenario, including our favorite—the AUSELILY Women's Long Sleeve Casual Flare Dress , chosen for its style, comfort, and convenient pockets.

What to Look For in Travel Dresses
The type of fabric used in travel dresses can vary. Polyester is more moisture-wicking than cotton, while acrylic will keep you warmer. For a super soft feel, rayon is incredibly comfortable and good in hot and cold weather. Spandex (aka elastane) will provide more stretch, which is excellent for flexible movement while traveling. Your destination of choice will help decide which of the above is best for your travels. Going long haul? You'll want something soft and stretchy. Need to be ready for a more elegant affair? Rayon and acrylic might be better choices.
No one likes feeling uncomfortable when traveling, so prioritize making sure your dress isn't too tight. When pure comfort is top of your agenda, a flowy style is probably the best bet. But if your itinerary includes an upscale night out and you want a snugger fit, opt for a dress with stretchy fabrics like spandex or rayon.
Ease of Care
After a trip, the last thing you want to do is go to the dry cleaner. So, machine-washable materials will make coming back from vacation easier. And of course, wrinkles are never fun if you need to be out and about or at a meeting. Opting for a wrinkle-resistant fabric will prevent wasting time ironing in your hotel room.
The first option in combating wrinkles is to choose a fabric that resists them. Polyester is one choice. Denim can also escape wrinkles if removed from the dryer promptly. Rolling your clothing items is another good way to prevent deep creases. Even with the best practices, however, clothing can wrinkle while traveling. Depending on the type of traveler you are, it may be worth investing in a travel steamer instead of having to rely on your accommodation to provide an iron.
Layers, layers, layers! Choose a comfortable, versatile base layer like any of our picks above. Then pair it with a lightweight jacket, add accessories, and consider the type of shoe that fits what you'll be doing. These extra layers help you adjust to changing temperatures (like ice-cold flight cabins) while preserving the look you put together.
Author Jordi Lippe-McGraw has researched and written about travel and lifestyle products for nearly a decade. When making this list, she researched dozens of products, looking at key specs like material, fit, and ease of care, plus the number of positive and negative reviews.

If you’re looking for a great travel outfit that’s going to be comfortable and functional all at once, I’ve got great outfit finds for you.
But, first, you must ensure that whatever outfit you choose is flexible—trying to move around while wearing tight clothing or bulky sweaters while on an airplane can be challenging.
That said, loose-fitting clothing can be just as tricky because you want to look neat too! So what do we do? We find the perfect balance of comfort and style so that our outfits look great, allowing us enough room to move around freely on your trip.
The Perfect Travel Outfit is all about Comfort
It’s more important than style, fashion, and anything else you can think of. It doesn’t matter how much money you spend on clothes or what brand they are if they don’t fit right and make you feel uncomfortable. When it comes to travel, comfort is king!
Choose superficial layers for your travel outfits because airports get cold.
Airports are going to be cold. When traveling, it’s best to dress in layers to adjust your temperature. If you’re checking bags, wear something comfortable that can easily be removed once inside (a cardigan or pullover works well).
The Perfect Travel Outfit Incorporates a Few Go-To Shoes
A pair of go-to shoes can make all the difference regarding comfy clothes for long trips, especially if you tend to walk a lot (like me). I recommend choosing shoes that offer both support for your ankles and soles with flexible leather uppers, so they don’t rub against your feet while walking long distances—and they look good as well!

How To Become A Revolve Ambassador
If you only have one travel shoe, make it a sneaker..
If you only have one travel shoe, make it a sneaker. Sneakers are not just for the gym anymore; they’re great for travel because they’re comfortable, easy to pack and slip on and off, and can be worn with almost anything.
Boots are the best travel shoes . They’re comfortable and warm and can be worn with various outfits. Boots can be worn in a variety of climates. And they’re great for travel because they are so versatile.
I hope these tips for your next flight make your travel more comfortable. Now that you’re packed and ready to go, don’t forget to enjoy the travels!

Travel + Leisure / Kevin Liang
As a full-time traveler who has lived out of a carry-on for 10 months straight, I’ve learned a thing or two about curating an essential travel wardrobe. Knowing which brands to invest in is key, as I count on my clothes to get me through all sorts of situations — from hoeing vineyards in Umbria to chasing waterfalls in Reykjavik — and I need to be able to rely on their sturdiness. Style and sustainability are also a priority: With a limited number of pieces to choose from each day, I want to feel and look good in all of them, and I need them to last.
Most importantly, the pieces need to mix and match easily, ensuring maximal outfit options while taking up minimal space. Since I’m always on the go, I don’t want any items that I need to fuss over. I prioritize materials that are wrinkle and sweat-resistant (I’ve sworn off 100 percent cotton, which takes ages to dry and wicks heat away from your body when wet), and opt for breezier materials that I don’t feel precious about shoving into a packing cube for days at a time.
Our best overall travel clothing brand, Everlane, earns the top spot on our list thanks to its commitment to sustainability, versatile designs, and size inclusivity. But whether you’re looking for pieces designed for athleisure or adventure, we’ve rounded up more of our favorite brands for every type of trip and traveler.
Best Overall
Everlane makes relaxed, timeless pieces that are easy to mix and match and are available in a wide range of sizes.
Their basics are well-priced for the level of quality, but there are better budget options available.
With a focus on breezy, sustainably-made pieces that are affordable and versatile, Everlane stands out among our top travel clothing brands. Its stylish staples — think lightweight cashmere pullovers and cuffed chinos — are designed to stand the test of time, plus they’re made from materials that can withstand a little wrinkling in your suitcase. Everlane also makes it easy to shop for base- and outer-layers all in one place, and who doesn’t love a one-stop shop? The brand prides itself on an ethos of “Radical Transparency,” informing customers about the ethical factories they partner with and the affordable pricing of pieces, allowing you to craft a true capsule wardrobe you can feel good about (and that looks great on you). For women, we love the Easy Pant and The Boxy Oxford , and our top picks for men are the No-Sweat Sweater and Performance Traveler Chino .
Price Range: $35 to $270
Best Sustainable
Patagonia’s Worn Wear program keeps clothing out of landfills by recycling used gear into new pieces.
With such a wide range of materials offered, be sure to pick pieces with the right amount of heat retention or that are appropriately lightweight based on where you’re going.
Beyond being a go-to for travel basics and durable adventurewear, Patagonia has long been a leader in the sustainability movement, and the brand has a number of programs that support its unwavering dedication to the environment. First off is its Worn Wear program, which encourages customers to trade in their used gear for Patagonia credit, allowing your pieces to be recycled rather than tossed into a landfill. The brand also donates 1 percent of all sales to environmental preservation, and operates Patagonia Action Works, which supports and partners with grassroots organizations that are working to combat climate change. For men, we love the brand’s Nano Puff Jacket and Capilene Cool Daily Hoody , and for women our top picks are the Mainstay Tee and Garden Island Jumpsuit . We love that Patagonia also makes pieces for kids and babies, so your little ones will be equally well-equipped for all of your family adventures.
Price Range: $39 to $400
Best Athleisure
Outdoor voices.
Available in a wide range of sizes and colors, Outdoor Voices makes chic and comfy clothes that are meant to move with you.
Some pieces run small, so read the reviews and consider sizing up accordingly.
What began as a trendy brand with a catchy motto (#DoingThings) has proved itself to be one of the most comfortable and cool athleisure brands on the block. With cute matching sets for running, biking, hiking, or just about any other activity you’re into, Outdoor Voices is a go-to for performance pieces that still look pretty. The weather-resistant RecTrek collection is a welcome addition to the brand’s range of sports bras, nylon pullovers, workout leggings, and more. The cult-favorite Exercise Dress is one of our all-time favorite travel picks for women, while the RecTrek Men’s Pocket Pants are our go-to for guys.
Price Range: $28 to $260
Best Budget
Pretty Garden
The jumpsuits are super cute and cozy.
Only makes women’s clothes, and is a fast-fashion brand.
While many of the brands on this list offer fairly affordable basics, Pretty Garden is a dedicated fast-fashion brand that is able to provide a wide range of styles and colors when it comes to budget-friendly travel essentials. We particularly love the tracksuits and jumpsuits, like the Summer Casual Deep V Neck Short Sleeve , which are soft and slouchy enough to feel like pajamas but still look pulled together.
Price Range: $23 to $46
Best Outdoor Adventure
Designed with eco-friendly fabrics, these pieces are durable enough for whatever adventure you’ve got planned.
The size range is only XS to XL.
Originally a yoga clothing line, all of prAna’s pieces are designed with movement and travel in mind. Whatever adventure you’ve got lined up — be it hiking the Rockies, bouldering in Utah, or camping out in a national park — this clothing is a great fit since it’s mostly water-resistant, stretchy, and easy to pack. When it comes to packaging, prAna has also committed to a zero-plastic policy, opting to roll pieces up instead and tie them with recyclable raffia to reduce waste. Many of the pieces also boast built-in SPF and sweat-wicking material, plus sleek and secure pockets to keep your essentials within reach at all times. For women, we love the Halle E-waist Jogger II and the easily packable Whistler Anorak , and for men we’re fans of the Lost Sol Short Sleeve Shirt .
Price Range: $18 to $220
Best for Base Layers
Targeted base layers range from all-season to cold-weather and plus size.
Despite the name, not all products are actually made from merino wool.
SmartWool is one of the top purveyors of 100 percent responsibly sourced merino wool, which is one of the best materials for travel thanks to its odor-resistance and moisture-wicking properties. It’s lightweight enough to take up minimal suitcase space but hefty enough to offer heat retention while you’re on the move. A good base layer is crucial for any traveler, but the specifics of what you’re looking for will depend largely on climate. Luckily, SmartWool offers pieces designed for all seasons as well as for high-intensity activities in colder climates, like skiing or ice climbing. The brand's Intraknit layers include a new technology that uses mesh ventilation in gender-specific zones to wick away moisture and retain heat. If you’re frequently in colder weather, we love the Women’s Intraknit Thermal Merino Base Layer Pattern Crew , while for men we love the Men’s Classic Thermal Merino Base Layer Crew.
Price Range: $5 to $240
Best Everyday
The pieces are ultra lightweight and designed for hassle-free packing.
Designs avoid trendy silhouettes and stick to looser classics, so if you prefer a more streamlined and flattering fit you may not find it here.
If you’re looking to round out your travel wardrobe with a few more minimalist essentials, look no further than Uniqlo. The Japanese brand has everything you need, from breezy, wrinkle-resistant dresses to padded coats that pack down into next-to-nothing, making them easy to tote around as an extra layer. For women, we love the breezy Linen-Blend Gathered Camisole Dress , and for men we love the Premium Linen Long-Sleeve Shirt , which is available in 12 pastel colors.
Price Range: $19 to $130
Best Outerwear
Whether you’re looking to fight off the wind, rain, cold, or sun, Athleta’s targeted outerwear is designed to help.
The outerwear is stylish and solid if you’re looking for lightweight options, but might not offer enough insulation for extended outdoor activities in cold weather.
Beloved for its stretchy and soft athleisure line and ultra-cozy leggings, Athleta is full of pieces that can take you from the tennis court to lunch at the clubhouse without looking out of place. Its range of underlayers and outerwear makes it easy to pull together an outfit that feels temperature- and activity-appropriate without sacrificing style. The brand is also size inclusive and offers a “Preloved” section on its website, where you can shop recycled pieces. The Advantage Jacket is our fun and flouncy favorite piece for women, while the Glacier Softshell Jacket is a worthwhile splurge if you’ll be getting active outside in cooler climates.
Price Range: $10 to $300
Best Swimwear
The patterns and styles are playful yet sophisticated and designed to last.
Many of the suits are patterned or two-toned, which might feel too busy for minimalists.
Sexy and sophisticated, Boden’s one-piece swimsuits and bikini sets are the perfect accessory for any beach day — and they’re made from recycled materials! The playful patterns — think bright florals, sweet scalloping, seaside scenes, and more — make for eye-catching layers under sheer tops as well, and any piece that has a double function is a great travel investment. We love that you can mix and match the bikinis as well, creating your own one-of-a-kind set when it comes to both pattern and size, because is there anything worse than a bikini set that fits you perfectly on top and sags on the bottom? Those who don’t mind a little color will be head over heels for the Cover U - Bar Swimsuit, while minimalists will be drawn to the sleek Arezzo V-neck Panel Swimsuit . There’s only a small handful of options for men, but the Fixed Waist Swim Short comes in a psychedelic Multi Utopia Swirl pattern that’s quite the trip.
Price Range: $18 to $350
Best for Business Travel
Ministry of supply.
“Systems” make it easy to pick your basics with discount bundles.
Some of their pieces may be slightly too casual depending on your work setting.
“Workleisure” is the term Ministry of Supply uses to describe its business casual clothing, which is comfortable and pulled-together enough to head straight from the plane to the boardroom. The proprietary Kinetic fabric is designed to stretch without sagging over time, and smooths out wrinkles by absorbing your own body heat. For those looking to revamp their business travel look, check out the brand’s Systems, offered as a bundle of best-sellers (i.e. in activewear or workleisure) at a discounted price. The Kinetic Pull-on Pant is a game changer for anyone dashing from red eyes to day-long panels.
Price Range: $9 to $500
Best Plus-size
Columbia sportswear.
There’s a robust selection of men’s plus-size pieces too, which can be harder to come by.
Columbia skews more outdoorsy than day-to-day, so these pieces are ideally suited for active travelers rather than those looking for chic sightseeing outfits.
Known for its rugged sportswear, Columbia offers one of the most comfortable and performance-based lines of plus-size travel clothes for men and women. Boasting everything from toasty base layers to lightweight outer layers, the brand offers up to size 3X. The Women’s PFG Freezer™ III Dress is flowy and offers great sun protection, making it a perfect companion to take you from sightseeing to a night on the town. For men, the Ascender Softshell Jacket is a sleek and weather-resistant layer that’s great to have on trips where the weather can be iffy.
Price Range: $25 to $230
Best Luxury
Eileen fisher.
Eco-friendly and flowing fabrics make for easy-breezy travel companions that are designed to stand the test of time.
Some of their pieces are dry-clean only.
Relaxed and flowy, Eileen Fisher pieces are always on trend yet timeless. The clean lines and minimalist patterns are a traveler’s best friend, making sure all the pieces are versatile and easy to dress up or down. We love that they’re crafted from eco-friendly materials, too. If you’re in the market for a wow-worthy dress that will hide the fact that you’ve had it shoved into a compression pouch for four days, look no further than the Crushed Silk Tiered Dress , which comes in five chic shades and a wide size range.
Price Range: $18 to $500
Tips for Buying Travel Clothing
Layering is key.
When looking to expand your travel wardrobe, you’ll want to select brands that offer a full range of products, from basics and underlayers to outerwear, so you’ll be prepared no matter the weather or conditions. Unless you plan to be in a colder climate the majority of the time, the best use of your suitcase space is to opt for lightweight layers, which offer more versatility than bulkier pieces you might not need or which might be too warm.
The more versatile the better
Every item you hit the road with should pull some sort of double duty: workout leggings layer under dresses in colder climates, while one-piece swimsuits double as tops in sunnier spots. Looking for pieces that can be worn in multiple ways or can be dressed up or down will go a long way in maximizing your outfit options. To that end, it’s a good idea to purchase versatile pieces from a handful of brands in order to create a personalized and well-rounded travel wardrobe for your specific needs.
Opt for wrinkle-resistant fabrics
Whether you're packing for a weekend getaway or long summer trip, you'll want to make sure to bring clothing that won't require a lot of maintenance as you unpack. There's nothing quite as frustrating as pulling your favorite shirt out of your suitcase only to realize it's a crinkled mess. Even if you bring a travel iron or steamer on every vacation, you should pack clothing made of wrinkle-resistant fabric to save you time and energy.
It’s always a good idea to research local customs before heading to a new destination so you’re aware of any sartorial specifics. For instance, in some countries, it’s recommended or required to dress more modestly; women may need to cover their shoulders, while men and women both may need to cover their knees. Beyond respecting the local culture, it’s generally a good idea to avoid clothing that is 100 percent cotton, since it takes a long time to dry and can start to smell. Bulky layers are also unadvisable, as they’ll weigh you down and take up precious space in your suitcase.
Patagonia offers clothing designed with rugged, rip-resistant, and waterproof material that is meant to take you trekking, climbing, and more, all while keeping you warm and dry. Its H₂No® Performance Standard has been tested for longevity and extreme durability, and is backed by the Ironclad Guarantee.
For plane rides, loose, stretchy clothing is ideal, but first and foremost, you should always dress however you feel most comfortable. Layers are key to easily combat fluctuating temperatures throughout the journey and still be prepared to hit the ground in whatever new climate you’re touching down in. Comfortable slippers or sneakers are essential as well — your feet may swell in flight, so you never want to pick tight shoes that will constrict you. Accessories like a neck pillow and an eye mask are also a good idea if you’re hoping to sleep in-flight.

By: Author Monica
Categories Blog , Packing Tips , Travel Tips

For some people, picking out your airplane outfit is an afterthought. You’ve picked your outfits for your holiday and haven’t even thought about what to wear to get there!
But for others, this is a big deal!
I love picking out stylish airplane outfits. . I love getting them ready and hanging them up so they’re waiting for me in the morning before an early flight! It’s all part of my holiday routine and it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t have my airport outfit ready and waiting!
I also love that activewear has been such a huge trend for so long because this makes it much easier to find stylish outfits for flying. Yes, activewear and stylish loungewear all the way!
This blog post is for those of you who want to look stylish while you fly….but would also really like to stay in your PJs and be cosy and comfy!
Here it is, stylish airplane outfits that are comfy, cosy and flattering…
The links to all the products mentioned in the post are listed at the end.
What NOT to wear on a plane
But before we go any further, let’s start with the basics. What shouldn’t you wear on a plane?
- Anything that’s going to crease
- Anything uncomfortable
- Anything hot that you can’t quickly remove
- Shoes you can’t slip on and off easily
- Skirts or shorts that will ride up super high when you sit down
- Tight jeans that will dig into your belly and crotch
- Anything skimpy without having something to put on top
- Light colours
- A jumpsuit or playsuit – because you have to take the whole thing off which can be awkward in a tiny airplane toilet

Two things that instantly make you look more stylish on a plane

Have you ever noticed that celebrities always look super stylish when they fly, but they’re also usually wearing comfy activewear? It’s because they’re wearing sunglasses and a hat. Honestly, try it. You’ll instantly look more glam.
The classic travel outfit

Comfortable all-black airplane outfit
My go-to outfit for flying is this combo:
- Black leggings
- Comfy trainers
- A basic t-shirt
- An oversized hoodie
- Crossbody bag or The Travel Hack Tote (out of stock but The Travel Hack Backpack is available)
- Oversized scarf
This is instant comfort but still kind of stylish. The black colours won’t show any mucky stains and you’re going to be warm and cosy without being too hot.
If you’ll probably take your shoes off then don’t forget to add socks to your bag.

- Elastic fabric; Dri-FIT
- Elastic belt
Love these classic Veja trainers but I will warn that they take a few days to break them in. If you’re getting them brand new for your holiday then I’d also get some moleskin comfort skin plaster things to protect your heels from blisters.

- Ecological And Sustainable Materials
- Organic Cotton Lining
- Expanded Pu And Organic Cotton Insole
This hoodie comes in lots of colours and it’s so comfy and cosy. I’m seriously tempted to get it in a few more colours because I love it!

Why wear all black on a plane?

I usually wear all black on the plane for two reasons. Firstly, because I often end up getting grubby on a plane. I had a rare fight without my kids recently so I risked it and wore a creamy brown dress on the plane. I thought I’d be fine! Until some poor guy fainted in the aisle, knocking me and my drink all over myself. The guy was OK (he was hungover!) but I’m just sharing that little story to highlight that anything can happen. Even if you think you’re not the kind of person to get messy, you just don’t know on a plane!
The second reason I wear all black on a plane is because I’ll normally wear the same outfit to come home as what I wore on the way out there. So if it does get a bit grubby then at least it’s usually well hidden.
The slightly more stylish but comfy airplane outfit

If you like the classic airplane outfit above but you want it to be a bit fancier then you just need to dress it up with leather-look leggings and a trench coat.
No products found.

- MATERIAL: It is made of high quality polyester fabrics. This trench coat is soft, comfortable, and skin-friendly to touch and wear, also lightweigt. And both hand and machine wash applicable.
- DESIGN FEATURES: Women Long Trench Coat Long Sleeve Double-Breasted with Belt Lapel Collar Windbreaker Coat Jacket Spring Autumn Wear. Classical Fashion Edition makes a woman who wear it fashionable...

- ✅【COZY FEELING TO WEAR】Women's loose fit loungewear set are more custom fit for different kinds of body shape, medium thick fabric, soft and comfortable to wear, provides maximum comfort and...
If you want to look elegant on the plane

A more elegant but stylish airplane outfit is low rise, wide leg trousers with a classic white t-shirt and a black cardigan or hoodie.
What to wear on a plane if you’re going straight out when you arrive
If you’re taking a quick weekend break and you’ve got early flights to your destination then there’s a high chance you’ll be heading straight out into the city when you arrive. Maybe you’ll dump your bags at the hotel or maybe you’ll be straight out to explore.
If this is the case then you’re going to want to wear something on the plane that is super comfy but also stylish and appropriate for exploring a new destination.
My advice here is to wear something like a casual, long black dress and team it with tights and boots if the weather is cold.
What if it’s really hot when I’m flying?
If it’s really hot then I’d wear a loose, black dress like mentioned above or swap the leggings for cycling shorts. I’d still take a comfy hoody because airports and planes can be chilly and you can use it as a pillow if you don’t wear it.
What’s the temperature on a plane?
It’s worth remembering that the temperature on a plane doesn’t really change (once the plane doors are shut and the aircon is working), no matter what time of year it is. The temperature on a plane is between 22-24 degrees C. It can feel colder because you’re sitting still and rarely move so I always like to wear fairly warm clothes on a plane.
BUT – it can take ages to board a plane and the heaters or air conditioning don’t start working until everyone has boarded and the doors are shut. If it’s summer then the plane can be HOT HOT HOT when you’re boarding and it could be freezing cold if it’s cold out.
So it’s worth remembering that layers are important here!
What are the best shoes to wear on a plane?

For most journeys I wear trainers on a plane.
My two favourites are the On Cloudnova trainers and Veja trainers . Both are comfy and stylish and I’ll wear them when I arrive. The Cloudnovas are also fine for running so if I know I’ll be taking a morning run while I’m on holiday then they’re my number one choice.
If I’m travelling long haul then I always take my shoes off because my feet swell and it’s comfier, so I like to wear shoes I can easily remove. Sliders, sandals or trainers are perfect and I’ll keep a pair of socks in my handbag.
If I’m travelling to a cold destination then I usually won’t have any choice but to wear my chunky winter boots on the plane. I usually travel wearing my Dr Martens Chelsea Boots. They’ve heavy and bulky and take up too much space in my luggage so I’ll need to wear them on the plane.
What jacket or coat should you wear with your airport outfit?

For most of us, the jacket we wear on the plane is going to be determined by the weather in our destination.
A lot of the time I don’t actually wear my coat on a plane, I just carry it onto the plane and place it straight in the overhead lockers to save space in my luggage or avoid it getting squished or crumpled.
- Cold weather – mid-length down coat (I have this one from Arket and I LOVE it)
- Hot weather – Just a chunky cardigan in case it’s cold on the plane or for chilly evenings
- Warm weather – Blazer /trench coat/denim jacket
Never wear a jumpsuit on a plane
If I have one rule about what to wear on a plane, it’s this: Never wear a jumpsuit!
This is because when you go to the toilet you’ll need to take the whole thing off. This is a pain and it’s awkward in a small toilet. It’s also a bit embarrassing and never wracking because you’re then completely naked – I always have the fear someone will walk in!
It becomes even more awkward if you put a jumper on top of your jumpsuit and then you also have to take your jumper off.
Trust me, I’ve done it before. Never wear a jumpsuit on a plane!
Stylish suitcases

You’ll notice that stylish outfits for flying look even better when accompanied by stylish luggage!
My faves are:
Antler Clifton Hard Shelled Suitcases
The Travel Hack Cabin Case for a cabin suitcase
The Travel Hack Tote for hand luggage

You look fabulous in your travel gear but please don’t encourage others take their shoes off on the plane.
Sunday 25th of June 2023
@Monica, I agree. You need to exercise your feet/ankles whilst flying and taking your shoes off allows the blood circulation to flow better and minimise swelling. Wearing slip on shoes is a must for flying for this reason. Thanks for a great article!
Wednesday 19th of October 2022
Thank you but I ALWAYS take my shoes off on a plane! I wouldn't walk around with no shoes on or wiggle my bare feet near anyone but my feet always swell and it's much more comfortable on long haul flights. I know in an emergency situation you'd need your shoes on but I don't think you can spend a long haul flight sitting on the edge of your seat prepped for an emergency.

The Best (and Worst) Things to Wear When Traveling
Pulled-together and comfortable outfits for every adventure.
Lois Joy Johnson,

Have you ever been so uncomfortable on a plane that you couldn’t wait to land? Ever regretted wearing tight jeans and ankle boots for a long car ride? Gotten a snobby once-over from a hotel concierge or maître d’ eyeing your outfit? Like most women over 50, I love comfort and wearing what I like. But as a lifelong traveler and globe-trotting fashion editor, I know that a few practical style tips and etiquette can make any travel situation better. Here are the best (and worst) travel outfits that solve all:

1. For the airport and plane: pull-on pants, boatneck tee and sweater, slip-on sneakers and socks
Expedited security clearance, online check-in and preflight seat selection help, but chilly temperatures at the gate and cramped onboard seats and flight delays are still an air travel fact of life. A pulled-together look in neutral colors goes miles in style points no matter how casual the clothes. Start with stretch cotton pants like Everlane’s Dream Pant in Black or Slate ($88, everlane.com) and add a flattering neck-lengthening boatneck tee like the Croft & Barrow Women’s Boatneck Top in Black or Navy ($18, kohls.com) and a boatneck sweater like the L.L. Bean Women’s Basketweave Sweater, Boatneck in Classic Navy ($60, llbean.com) — layering double boatneck tops is a trick that won’t ruin the benefits. Those with circulation concerns can add light compression socks while onboard like the Comrad Knee-High Compression Socks in Navy ($28, amazon.com) — slip them off before you leave the plane — but all benefit from chic slip-on sneakers like the LifeStride Next Level Slip-On Sneaker in Black ($50, nordstrom.com). Skip anything stiff, structured, too bare or complicated like skinny jeans, tank tops, booties, mules, slides and sandals, or rigid underwire bras. Also, avoid strong scents that might trigger an allergic reaction in your seatmate!

2. For a road trip: athleisure — knits, hoodies and driving mocs
Whether you’re headed cross-country to see the Grand Canyon , taking a scenic drive along the coast or en route to a country B&B, car travel can be challenging. Any combination of athleisure joggers, track pants and hoodies will make the journey easier. Try a prepackaged knit duo like the PrettyGarden Women’s Two Piece Outfit Long Sleeve Crewneck Pullover and Track Pants in Dark Khaki, Grey or A-Black ($40, amazon.com) or pair fitness pants with an elastic waist like the RBX Active Women’s Relaxed Fit Lightweight Quick-Drying Stretch Pants with Pockets in Ribbed Side Sage or Ribbed Side Charcoa l ($50, amazon.com) with any basic tee and a sweatshirt like the H&M Women’s Oversized Hooded Jacket in Light Gray Melange or Beige ($30, www2.hm.com/en_us). Again, stick with neutrals for a stylish effect, and try rubber soled driving mocs like the Hush Puppies Cora Loafer in Taupe or Black ($80, dsw.com/en/us) rather than sneakers to keep tootsies soothed and sweat-free. Skip skirts and dresses , anything tight or constricting. Though feel free to add those compression socks (from No. 1, above) if your legs tend to swell with long hours of no walking.

3. For big cities: a jumpsuit, a shirtdress and a secure bag
Going to Berlin, New York or New Orleans ? A week of art, shopping, theater, music and restaurant hopping? You’ll want to blend in with the locals and not stand out as a tourist. Not only will you get better service, you also won’t be an easy “tourist target” for pickpockets on streets or public transit. Choose one-and-done softly tailored pieces that work day or night like the Banana Republic Finley Poplin Jumpsuit in Black ($96, bananarepublic.gap.com) or a midi shirtdress like the Lane Bryant Perfect Sleeve Collared Belt Shirtdress in Ginger Root ($84, lanebryant.com) and add a secure cross-body bag like Travelon Anti-Theft Classic N/S Crossbody in Black ($85, travelonbags.com) with slash-proof strap and sides instead of an open top bag or one with a magnetic closure. Save workout clothes for the gym and skip team logos, jeans with rips and tears, visors, clunky white “dad” sneakers and your good jewelry. A Rolex, a diamond eternity ring and your mom’s pearls may be everyday basics at home, but costume jewelry is always a better bet when traveling.

4. Sightseeing: midi dress, jeans and arm-covering tops
From Marie Antoinette’s private rooms at Versailles to ancient Greek ruins and the Pyramids at Giza in Cairo, the past beckons. Some foreign destinations have a more relaxed dress code; others are more conservative. In fact, churches and religious sites almost anywhere may deny entry to a sleeveless midi dress or leg-covering pants that are paired with a bare sleeve top. A midi dress and cardigan like the Gap Eyelet Mixed Fabric Midi Dress in Black or Bedrock Beige ($27, gap.com) and Old Navy Textured Long-Line Open-Front Sweater for Women in Black Jack ($45, oldnavy.gap.com) or wide-leg jeans like the J.Jill High-Rise Full-Leg Denim Crops in Portofino Wash ($89, jjill.com) with a light shawl or ruana like the LC Lauren Conrad Women’s Lace-Trimmed Ruana in Blue ($21.60, kohls.com) are two easy solutions for summer. Skip above-the-knees skirts, shorts, sleeveless tops and deep V or scoop necklines that might be considered inappropriate or provocative, and leave new shoes and sandals at home (because who needs blisters?).

Get instant access to members-only products and hundreds of discounts, a free second membership, and a subscription to AARP The Magazine.

5. For a business trip: knit blazer, ponte pants and wrinkle-free shirt
Sometimes you need to spring from the airport or train station straight to a meeting without a minute to change clothes or even freshen up. Woven “no-iron” shirts and tunics that are specially treated to resist creasing or wear and knit jackets and pants that bounce back to perfection after hours of sitting are the best fix for this situation. For a foolproof trio, start with pants that never disappoint or show stains like the Spanx High Waist Straight Leg Ponte Pants in Classic Black ($99, nordstrom.com) and then add a crisp button-down like the Foxcroft Mary Essential Stretch Non-Iron Shirt in White ($69.50, foxcroftcollection.com) before topping off the look with a knit blazer like the Quince 100% Organic Cotton Knit Blazer in Camel, Navy, Black or Charcoal ($70, quince.com). Note that all have up-to-date details that matter. The pants are pull-ons with a non-bulky flat waistband, the shirt is an untuck style with three-quarter sleeves in fatigue-erasing white, and the blazer is long and relaxed in shape (so you can layer a light sweater beneath for extra warmth when needed).

6. For unpredictable weather anywhere: a water-resistant or quilted jacket, slip-resistant rubber soled shoes
Cruising to Alaska to see the glaciers, sailing down the Danube or taking a girl’s trip with the besties to Santa Fe or Barcelona? Sounds great, but scorching hot or unexpectedly chilly temperatures and rain can wreck the best laid travel plans … unless you take a few preventative measures. Dressing in layers offers temperature control, but a weather-proofing jacket and grippy footwear make any trip stress free. Lightweight water-repellent jackets like the Uniqlo UV Protection Pocketable Parka in 54 Green or 09 Black ($50, uniqlo.com/us) or the Coldwater Creek Pack-It Jacket (style #22233) in Olive or Mushroom ($90, coldwatercreek.com) look cool and chic over any outfit from tees and jeans to dresses, fold up into a small built-in pouch or compartment and have hoods (so no need to drag an umbrella or tote bag along). For extra warmth (like that Alaskan cruise or a trip to Finland) grab a quilted jacket like the J. Crew Limited Edition New Cropped Quilted Barn Jacket in Deep Moss ($198, jcrew.com) which pairs with sweatshirts and cashmere sweaters with equal ease. And if your idea of the ideal vacay means open sandals don’t forget pair of closed-toe rubber-soled slip-ons like the Toms Devon Women’s Slip-On Shoes in Black ($50, kohls.com). I learned this the hard way after a fall in slides on slippery marble steps in the Louvre.

- October 1, 2023

Moscow winter: how does it look like? What to do in Moscow in winter? How to dress foe Moscow winter? Here are our travel tips to discover Moscow in December, January and February.
Rest sure, you will not be bored! Even if you are travelling during at -20 degrees (which is now really rare), you will always find cool things to do. Going to Moscow in December, January or February is great! Let’s see it together!
A week in Moscow and St Petersburg. If after Moscow you are also going to Saint Petersburg, then find out our blog post on what to do in Saint Petersburg in winter.

What to do in Moscow in winter? Our TOP 6 of things to do during Moscow winter!
Here is our TOP 6 of things to do during Moscow winter:
- Go to the Red Square Christmas market
Ice skating on the largest ice rink in Europe at VDNKh
Enjoy the snow-capped moscow parks, live the experience of a russian banya, stroll the most beautiful streets of moscow in winter, discover the fairy tale world of izmailovo, go to the red square christmas market, the number 1 thing to do in moscow in winter.
It’s magic! Moscow’s Red Square in December, January and February turns into a fairy tale: small stands for mulled wine, tea or sweets. The festive atmosphere reigns there throughout the winter. There is also an ice rink installed on November 30, just opposite the luxury store GUM. In summary, if there should be only one thing to do in Moscow in winter, that would be the Red Square Christmas market.
- Where? Red Square , free entry to the Christmas market. If you are going to stay only 2 or 3 days in Moscow, choose an accommodation not too far from Kremlin. Find further tips about hotels in Moscow here: Where to stay in Moscow?
- When? From December 1 to the end of February

Indeed, the rink is 20,000m²! If you are going to Moscow in December, January or February, ice skating is an activity to discover. Music and lights to accompany your skate ride: great atmosphere! However, VDNKh is not in the historical Moscow center.
- Where? Exhibition center, VDNKh. You will need to take a public transport (metro or bus) or taxi to go there. This blog post could be helpful: Transport in Moscow: how does it work?
- When? From November 30 to February 28, closed on Monday
- Opening hours: 11 am-3pm and 5 pm-11pm weekdays; 10 am-3pm and 5 pm-11pm on weekends and holidays. Technical break to smooth the ice from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
- Prices: from 300 RUB to 600 RUB for a 1 hour session (more expensive on weekdays and weekends), discounts for children under 12 + 150 RUB for skate rental
What to do in Moscow in winter? Enjoy the parks whose entry is completely free! Indeed, the parks of Moscow are great spaces of relaxation and entertainment very appreciated by the Muscovites. However, you must know the most interesting of the city center: these are the new Zariadié park and the Gorky park.
Pay attention to the temperatures! Long walks can be quickly difficult to hold, if you are not well equipped. Especially if temperatures drop to -10 and above. Further informations about how to dress for Moscow winter below.
The snow-covered Zariadye Park and its platform suspended in the air offer a beautiful view of the Kremlin and the Moskva River. The park area is open 24 hours a day and free. In addition, for 180 RUB you can visit an artistic installation: the ice cave (hours 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.).
The Gorky park is very large, it runs along the Moskva to the Mont des Moineaux. Besides, Gorky Park is a park to visit in summer and winter. If you go to Moscow in December, January or February, inside the park you will find small stands where you can buy hot drinks to warm up, cafes to rest and a museum of modern art Garage, and then an ice rink! Impressive too, but smaller than that of VDNKh. However, there are a lot of people on weekends. Map of the park .

Warm wine and tea are not enough to warm you up? Now is the time to try the Russian bania! It’s clearly an experience to do in Moscow in winter. Moscow winter would not be so cold for you! Finishing a day of walking in the snowy city with a traditional bania, there is nothing better.
What is the bania? In summary, the Russian bania is a hot steam bath. It’s an ancient tradition that dates back to the time of Peter the Great. Bania enthusiast, he then zero-rated the construction of the banias. They then multiplied everywhere in Russia. In the countryside, the bania is a small wooden house. In town, the place is apparently different from the outside, but the principle remains the same. The steam warms our bodies, the pores are cleaned, we wash … then we pat ourselves with the venik, a broom of dry birch branches! It wakes up, for sure!
Salduny baths is an institution. With over 200 years of history, they are the largest and most popular baths in Moscow. However, there are Women and Men sections. To be able to stay together, you must then reserve a private banya.
- Where? Neglinnaya Ulitsa 14, Kuznetsky most metro
- Opening hours: Daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Closed on Tuesdays.
- Prices: 1800 RUB for 3 hours of bania – basic part, 2200 RUB – more “premium” part

In what to do in Moscow in winter, I cannot not mention the walk in the streets of Moscow. Indeed, the streets of the city center are very nicely decorated. In addition to the famous places to visit, such as Saint Basil’s Cathedral or Red Square, there are nice neighborhoods to see to enjoy the winter and better understand Moscow.
Neighborhoods to visit. The districts of Patriarchy Prudy and Tchistye Prudy are to be discovered, because there are already more locals there. In addition, in each of these districts, there is a pond and cafes and restaurants around.
Streets to see. Nikolskaya, Bolchaya Dmitrovka, Pereoulok Stoleshnikov, Pereoulok Kamergersky and Kuznetchny Most streets are also worth a walk.

The Izmaylovo Kremlin is certainly a tourist spot, but it is well worth seeing during a winter weekend . It looks like Disneyland! First, you enter a colorful fortress surrounded by frozen water, walk the decorated streets, then discover the market stalls filled with fur, chapka, Russian scarves.
- Where? 10 min of walk from Partizanskaya station
- Opening hours: Daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Free admission

How to dress for Moscow winter?
To know how to dress for Moscow winter and Russian winter in general, you can use my Russian grandmother’s golden rule (who lived on Novaya Zemlya Island in Russia). You have to cover the strategic places to be warm. That is, clothes and shoes in winter in Russia must protect the extremities of the body as much as possible, then the throat and buttocks. It is quite the same in Canada I guess.
Three important things for how to dress for Moscow winter:
- Undershirts are very important. They shouldn’t be wide, they should stick to your skin.
- Hooded coats
- High shoes with a thick and gripping sole
What to enjoy Moscow winter: in summary
As we have seen, Moscow is therefore transformed during the winter into a magical place: decorations, snow, evening lights, ice rink … Indeed, everything is there for New Year’s Day, the most important holiday in Russia. So let’s take advantage of this winter and its magic to the fullest: Red Square Christmas market, skating rink, walk in the snowy parks!
If you are leaving during the holiday season, this blog post will certainly be useful for you: Christmas and New Year in Moscow .
Finally, here is a wonderful video of Moscow snow-covered in February! 🙂
Have a nice trip! 🙂 Use the blog search bar to find the articles that interest you about Moscow.

Top 10 Moscow Travel Tips
Luxury hotel deals, First Class for free, Top Travel Credit Cards

Moscow is one of the largest cities that may still, in the minds of many Westerners, seem to qualify as "adventure travel" thanks to the combination of mafia portrayals in Hollywood movies and the unrelenting bad press in Western media. Take it all with a huge grain of salt, and don't let it dissuade you from exploring Moscow's many cultural wonders, from top-notch exhibits at the Tretyakov Gallery to some of the world's most gorgeous subway stations replete with stained glass, marble and intricate mosaics.
1. Apply for your Russian visa three months before your arrival date . You can't apply earlier than three months for it, but you also don't want to wait until the last minute due to processing times. For a step by step guide, see Three-Year Russian Visa Application Requirements and Tips
2. Fly first class to Moscow on a Lufthansa or Singapore Airlines award ticket . Treat yourself to some luxury even before you get to Russia by flying Lufthansa New First Class to Moscow via Germany (67,500 United miles each way), or Singapore Airlines First Class from Houston to Moscow, using KrisFlyer miles.
3. Take the Aeroexpress to and from the airport . There's really no reason to haggle with taxi drivers, since the Aeroexpress train takes even less time between the airport and Moscow city center, and you can connect to the Metro at Paveletskaya to get to wherever you need to go (just pack light).
4. Where to Stay, Luxury : For modern luxury, stay at The Lotte Hotel Moscow . It's no wonder the hotel was named the best city hotel in Russia in the 2012 Conde Nast Traveller Readers' Choice Awards and has quickly become a favorite among both discerning business travelers and well-heeled Muscovites alike. The attention to detail and consistently high quality service at The Lotte is still a relative rarity in Moscow. And don't miss stellar French cuisine at Les Menus par Pierre Gagnaire, or a soothing Balinese massage at Mandara Spa.

5. Where to Stay, Budget : While there are Moscow hostels and rented apartments, your best bet for an almost-free stay that is still conveniently located in the center is to use loyalty points. Hyatt, Marriott, InterContinental and Radisson all have hotels in Moscow, so by earning points either with hotel stays or by signing up for the best travel credit cards , you can enjoy some free nights in one of the most expensive cities in the world.

6. Try Georgian Food : Georgian food and wine was beloved during the Soviet Union and continues to be popular in Moscow. Try hip local chain Café Khachapuri which specializes in different varieties of the namesake khachapuri , a traditional Georgian bread stuffed with melted Georgian sulguni cheese. There are plenty of other Georgian dishes on offer as well. The business lunch special on weekdays is also a good deal. Check out some other great things to eat in Moscow .

7. Take in the View : The City Space Bar, on the top floor of the Swissotel Krasnye Holmy, is your best bet for incredible 360-degree views of Moscow while sipping elegant and innovative (albeit very pricey) cocktails and excellent service. In the summer, another great place is the terrace of the Sky Lounge, located atop the Russian Academy of Sciences. Here, cocktails aren't as innovative as the City Space Bar but the food menu is far more extensive. Reserve a table here for just before sunset. Another option is the O2 Lounge atop the Ritz-Carlton Moscow, with its lovely view of Red Square and the Kremlin.
8. Go Underground : Chances are, unless you've experienced other Russian or former Soviet subway systems, you've never seen more beautiful stations. Don't miss Novoslobodskaya, Komsomolskaya, Mayakovskaya and Ploschad Revolutsii, to name a few, whether you visit on your own or as part of a Moscow Metro Tour . Just as impressive is the subway's efficiency -- you'll often wait less than a minute for the next train to come.

9. Go to Church : You'll probably visit Red Square and the Kremlin, but don't forget to buy a cathedral pass so that you can visit Uspensky Sobor, the masterpiece of Italian architect Aristotele Fioravanti and the coronation site of Russian monarchs from 1547 to 1896. Take in the beautiful frescos and icons, but note that photography isn't allowed inside.
10. Visit a Russian Versailles : Arkhangelskoe Estate takes a bit of getting to (take Metro Line 7 to Tushinskaya, then a 20-30 minute Number 151 mini-bus ride) but is well worth the trek on a beautiful summer or crisp autumn day. Take a picnic with you and enjoy walking around this Russian version of Versailles.

Locally crafted Vermont Gifts for Everyone on Your List: 2023 Edition
Posted: November 14, 2023 | Last updated: November 14, 2023
Do you love choosing unique gifts for your loved ones while supporting local crafters and businesses? Do you love Vermont or know people who do?
My first suggestion would be to come to Vermont and meander down Main Street in a few of your favorite towns to find unique Vermont gifts for everyone on your list, but I know that’s not possible for everyone.
Instead, let’s take a look at Etsy for some easy online shopping for locally crafted Vermont gifts.
Not only are these awesome Vermont gifts inspired by the Green Mountains, but they were also created here! Every gift you buy below will help support a Vermont creator or small business owner in Vermont.
And while it may not be quite as fun as shopping your favorite Vermont Main Street, it’s a close second.
Here are some of our favorite Vermont gifts just in time for the holidays!
Unique Vermont Clothing
When you search within the confines of your brain for the perfect gift and you still draw a blank, consider a Vermont t-shirt, hoodie, or hat. Most items are relatively inexpensive, and you can never have too many t-shirts, right? All of the clothes featured below include unique Vermont graphics, perfect for just about everyone on your holiday gift list.
Dad Hat: Sunset over Camel’s Hump
This original design features Vermont’s most iconic and beautiful mountain, Camel’s Hump, and was designed and printed in Colchester Vermont.
The five-panel baseball hat is made with soft cotton and comes in three colors. While the folks at NewDuds call it a ‘dad hat’, I’d argue that it would be perfect for just about anyone!
I’d Tap That T-Shirt
Celebrate Vermont’s most iconic resident, the stately maple tree! Not only does this gem of a tree put on a colorful spectacle in the fall, but it also provides us with the elixir of life.

This Vermont maple tree T-shirt comes in a few different colors, each featuring a beautiful sugar maple outline. Underneath the tree, are the words “I’d Tap That” in script, followed by “Vermont.”
