Ahead of Christmas Eve, however, you’ll find more stores opening early and staying open late. Through Thursday, Target and Kohl’s stores are open from 7 a.m. until midnight and then will have shorter hours Friday. For Christmas Eve grocery store hours, click here .

But this year, stores might be busier than last Christmas Eve. Even though Christmas Eve is not a federal holiday , many businesses and federal offices will recognize it as a day off because Christmas falls on a Saturday. ( Here is what is open on Christmas .)

Santa journeys across the globe. Here's when he's expected to arrive, how to track his location
He's making his list and checking it twice ahead of his long journey across the globe.
That's right: Santa's coming to town in less than a day to deliver gifts.
Currently, he's gearing up all nine of his reindeer — Rudolph, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen — for the long, but surprisingly fast journey across the entire world.
Here's a countdown to when Santa will be arriving to your home. Be sure sure to leave the milk and cookies.

Visit Santa early in Louisville
Santa's still making early stops in Louisville up until Christmas Eve.
St. Nick will be at the Jefferson Mall, Bass Pro Shops, Cabela's Santa Wonderland, Green Tree Mall, and many more. Find the full list of locations here.

How to follow NORAD's Santa tracker
The map tracking Santa's trip around the world will begin on Christmas Eve , or Dec. 24, from NORAD, a joint U.S.-Canada command responsible for protecting the skies over both nations.
USA TODAY is providing live coverage as NORAD tracks Santa's trip around the world, which will begin around 7 a.m. ET on Dec. 24. You can watch along on the video embed at the top of the page, on USA TODAY's YouTube channel or on NORAD's website .
NORAD's long history tracking Santa was born from a mistake in 1955. According to legend, an ad in a Colorado Springs newspaper invited children to call Santa but inadvertently listed the phone number for the Continental Air Defense Command, NORAD's predecessor, also based in Colorado Springs.
Officers played along. Since then, NORAD Tracks Santa has gone global, receiving calls from around the world and posting updates on social media for millions of fans, and updating its website following Santa's progress on Christmas Eve.
Hundreds of Canadian and American military personnel and civilians volunteer keep up with Santa. You can visit their website to keep up with Santa, or you can call a volunteer at Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado.
Is there a 2023 Google Santa tracker?
NORAD is not the only agency or company to track Santa's journey around the world delivering gifts. This year, Google is again offering its own Santa tracker on its website and corresponding Santa Tracker 2023 app , which will also begin tracking on Christmas Eve.
Google isn't just offering Santa tracking this year, also including a family guide , quizzes and various Christmas-themed games to play.

CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICES AT JOURNEY
by Ed Noble | Dec 27, 2011 | Ed's blog , Weekends | 1 comment
I’m still reeling from our Christmas Eve services at Journey. It’s crazy how much work goes into them, how much prayer how much enthusiasm and preparation! Then to see them blow up in wonderful way is so gratifying and encouraging.
Here are a few thoughts and bunch of great pics by the great Dan Matticks
- You Journey-ites were INVITING ANIMALS! You all went beast-mode on the invite. I LOVED meeting so many friends, family members, work mates, neighbors, class-mates, people from the gym etc etc etc! Wow!
- All the services were pretty full – Friday at 7:00 and Saturday at 4:00 were packed! I love the energy and challenge of speaking at these services with so many visitors!
- Our music is so good! Making Christmas music feel like Journey is a challenge! Balancing the set with some of standard worship music to give people a taste of a regular service is crucial. And we always seem to find a great connection / performance song.
- I never get weary of reflecting on, speaking about and highlighting the incomprehensible mystery of the INCARNATION. Even the Apostle Paul never stopped marveling. Toward the end of his life he wrote
1Tim. 1:15 It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all.

Free bus journeys on Christmas Eve
ISLANDERS will be able to get the bus for free on Christmas Eve.
LibertyBus has said that for the first time ever, all bus journeys on 24 December will be “absolutely free of charge”, to help Islanders “connect” and do last-minute Christmas shopping, while also “bolstering the local retail and hospitality sectors”.
The company’s director, Kevin Hart, said: “Christmas is a time for coming together and creating memories with loved ones. By offering free bus journeys on Christmas Eve, we hope to make it easier for everyone to connect on the day.
“We encourage the community to use sustainable transport options and reduce the environmental impact while enjoying the festivities.”
He added: “LibertyBus remains committed to supporting sustainable transportation solutions, and this initiative aligns with their ongoing efforts to promote eco-friendly practices within the community.
“By providing complimentary bus journeys, LibertyBus aims to reduce the reliance on individual vehicles, contributing to a more environmentally conscious and enjoyable Christmas experience for all.”
LibertyBus will be running a Sunday service on 24 December, with the last buses from town due to depart at or before 9pm.

Looking to finish some last-minute Christmas shopping?
The holiday is one of the few days that most retail stores in the U.S. close. Blue laws in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Maine even prohibit Christmas Day retail activity.
Trying to remain competitive during the holiday shopping season, malls and department stores often remain open for longer hours in the days preceding Christmas. That cycle usually ends on Christmas Eve, when many major stores close at 6 p.m. local time.
For those who want to shop on Christmas Day, online stores might be the best option. However, those needing last-minute gifts can still find skin care, fragrances and beauty products, including holiday-branded collections, at Walgreens, Duane Reade and CVS stores on Dec. 25.
According to Statista, holiday retail sales are projected to reach $957 billion this year.
And while there’s a decline in mall foot traffic, a study from Shopify revealed that more than a third of shoppers between ages 18 to 29 said that having in-person experience is a key factor when making purchases this season.
Here’s a list of some of the stores that are closed on Christmas Day, and the ones that will be open, but at reduced hours on Christmas Eve.

I'm coming from Turkey and I'm going to go to St petersburg. But I have transfer from Vnukovo airport to Pulkova airport. I have to wait 6 hours in Vnukovo.
Thank you for your answer.
> I have transfer from Vnukovo airport to Pulkova airport
> I didn't do any international transfer before
This is not an international transfer as the second flight is domestic.
> Can I visit duty-free in Vnukovo between flights because of I had international flight ?
No, because you are not leaving Russia. Besides, there's nothng of interest in the Vnukovo duty-free that you can't buy cheaper in the Istanbul duty-free.
> Or I can visit duty-free only in Pulkovo
Definitely not. The only duty-free you get to visit on your itinerary is Istanbul because it is the only place where you embark on an international flight .
> is there any attractions near Vnukovo?
> Or what can i do in 6 hours? :(
Can't think of anything other but sittng and waiting or going to Moscow . You don't have to go to the center this time but visit something closer to VKO like Victory Park, Sparrow Hills or Moscow City but the logistics is going to be tricky...
I advise doing a search here at TA...this question has been answered dozens of times...including almost minute-by-minute analysis...and am too lazy to repeat ;-)
In any event, 2 things. This to me is right at the edge of don't bother. As for IF you do bother, you will need to weigh very carefully whether even trying to take a taxi in will work time wise. The Aeroexpress and Metro will get you there quicker in many cases, and in any event, "reliably"...BUT since it only runs every 30 minutes or so, and 1 hour over lunch, if you just miss one, you lose 30 minutes right off the bat...
> it only runs every 30 minutes or so, and 1 hour over lunch
Not to/from Vnukovo.
What about no train to the airport between 11:00 and 13:00?
And do we really need to reproduce the schedule here which might confuse future readers when the schedule changes and this thread doesn't?
Ok. For future readers: check the actual schedule on the Aeroexpress site: http://aeroexpress.ru/en/vnukovo.html
Are you sure it was duty-free, not just some airport shops? It's against common sense and all my experience.
The rules were introduced by federal laws and are not airport specific.
The same site says: http://eng.regstaer.ru/faq
Unfortunately, you cannot make a purchase in a duty free store if you are not leaving the territory of the Russian Federation. According to the existing customs law of the Russian Federation, goods purchased in duty free stores must be exported outside the customs territory of the Russian Federation.
You can make a purchase in a duty free store only when leaving the territory of the Russian Federation.

Christmas gift guide to Moscow surroundings
Visitors from America and Western Europe might be surprised to discover that Russia celebrates Christmas on January 7th. That’s because the Russian Orthodox Church follows the Julian calendar. After the end of the Soviet Union, some Russians have begun celebrating Christmas on December 25 in accordance with the Gregorian calendar. But many Russians still observe the tradition of fasting on January 6th, breaking the fast with a large feast on Christmas Eve after the first star has appeared in the sky.
During the Soviet era, Christmas and religious traditions were banned in Russia. Santa Claus was replaced by Ded Moroz, or, Grandfather Frost, an old man with a long white beard who would bring gifts to children on New Year’s instead of Christmas. According to Russian tradition, Ded Moroz is accompanied by his granddaughter, Snegurochka, the Snowmaiden, who helps him on his journey to give presents to children.
Although the tradition of having a Christmas tree, known as a yolka in Russian, was also banned during Soviet times, Russians got around this by having New Year’s trees from which they hung homemade decorations. Today, the restrictions of the Soviet Union have faded into history, and during the Christmas season visitors to Russia can even purchase Christmas ornaments in the shape of matryoshka dolls, or religious icons that depict nativity scenes.
Heading counterclockwise around the Golden Ring this holiday season, northeast of Moscow, your first stop will most likely be the city of Vladimir, home to some of Russia’s most striking churches and cathedrals. The Vladimir region is known for its fine crystal. Stop by the Crystal, Lacquer Miniatures, and Embroidery Museum ( 2 Bolshaya Moskovskaya ) for an overview of traditional crafts before visiting the gift shop in the museum to browse the crystal selection. Vladimir Chic ( 2 Dvoryanskaya ) also sells local glass and crystal work.
Typical souvenirs are also for sale in Vladimir’s old town, especially by the Golden Gate, a triumphal arch and defensive tower that is one of the last-remaining parts of the wall that once surrounded ancient Vladimir and a sure stop on any tour of the Golden Ring.
Just 63 kilometers from Vladimir lays the nearby city of Gus-Khrustalny , the ‘Crystal Goose,’ also home to a rich glass and crystal making tradition. You can visit the glassmaking factory in Gus-Khrustalny and buy gifts ranging from plates and vases to decanters, or visit the outlet store back in Moscow ( 4 Ilyinka ) just east of the Kremlin.
North of Vladimir, you’ll arrive in Suzdal, one of the Golden Ring route’s more tranquil towns. Suzdal boasts a number of small bazaars and stands outside the main tourist sites where visitors can purchase local honey mead, called medovukha, along with traditional crafts, like a pair valenki, or Russian woolen boots, which make an ideal Christmas gift for friends and family back home. The shopping stands outside Suzdal’s Museum of Wooden Architecture and Peasant Life ( Ul. Pushkarskaya ) are also highly recommended. Market Square ( Torgovaya Pl ) houses a number of shops where visitors can search for arts and crafts.
Following the Golden Ring north of Suzdal, many tours will stop in the city of Kostroma, a former trading outpost on the immense Volga River. One of the city’s highlights is the Museum of Linen and Birchbark ( 38 Tereshkova ), where visitors can view exhibits on traditional Russian crafts woven from flax and bark. A gift shop in the basement sells tablecloths, napkins, baskets, linen dolls, and traditional clothing typical of the region.
South from Kostroma, stop in the city of Rostov-Veliky for enamel jewelry, a craft which allows artists to produce small paintings on metal that are then fired to produce a thin glaze over the image. Rostov became famous for its tradition of enamel work. Today, visitors can purchase rings, earrings, bracelets, brooches, and jewelry boxes in the gift shop of the Rostov Enamel factory ( 3 Borisoglebskoye Highway ).
While you’re in Rostov, visit the House of Crafts ( 16 Vtoraya Tolstovskaya Naberezhnaya ) for local pottery and the Souvenirs shop ( 5 Ul. Kamennyi Most ) for ushanka hats—Russian fur caps with earflaps—paintings, and samovars for tea lovers.
The last two stops on a tour of the Golden Ring are the cities of Pereslavl-Zalesskiy and Sergiev Posad. Pereslavl is most famous for its embroidery work, available at the Art Salon ( 12 Ul. Sovetskaya ) along with souvenirs made of wood and stone. Nearby Sergiev Posad is considered the place where Russia’s matryoshka dolls were first invented, and was the chief production center of the dolls before Soviet times. Visit the city’s Toy Museum ( 123 Pr. Krasny Armii ) to get a better sense of the birthplace of one of Russia’s most recognizable toys, then head over to the market alongside the Trinity Monastery of St. Sergius—one of the city’s most important sites—to load up on matryoshka dolls, painted eggs, and icons before going home.
If you’ll be in the Golden Ring during New Years, the city of Vladimir hosts an impressive Christmas fair, with an iceskating rink and performances by local artists, in the main square ( Sobornaya Pl ). In most other Golden Ring cities you’ll find similar events in the center square as Christmas nears.
Most shops and markets in the Golden Ring are open year round. If you’re coming to Russia for a short period of time, whether in winter or summer, consider a trip to this stunning part of the country, and bring an extra bag if you plan to go shopping for Christmas gifts.
