Russia's decision to extend the e-visa facility to citizens of 52 countries, including China, India, and African nations, comes amid a significant decline in foreign tourists from Western countries due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. Official figures indicate a 40 percent drop in foreign tourists visiting Russia, plummeting from 290,000 in 2021 to 190,000 in 2022.

The move to attract tourists and business travelers from new markets is evident as Moscow seeks to forge stronger ties with China, India, and African nations. By streamlining the visa application process and making it more convenient, Russia aims to entice Indian tourists, offering them a hassle-free way to explore the country.

Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine over a year ago, which has killed thousands and displaced millions, Moscow has turned to China, India and African nations, trying to seek closer ties.

How to get a russian visa from india – russian visa for indians.

In this article I will tell you how to get Russian visa for Indian citizens. I have a lot of friends in India and I have been to India 4 times myself. It happens that my friends often ask me how to get a visa to Russia if they want to visit me here. And I was getting soooo many questions how to get a Russian visa for Indians that I made a decision to write about it on my blog.

Do you need a visa to visit Russia?

Yes, in order to visit Russia, Indian people must obtain a visa. You can apply for a visa in India through an embassy or a consulate of the Russian Federation, which are located in India. In the end of this page i am going to provide you all the addresses. Please read carefully.

How to get a visa to Russia from India?

To get a Russian visa Indians must receive an invitation from Russia. The invitation depends on a type of the visa that you are planning to get. And the type of the visa depends on the purpose of your visit. So first of all decide how long you want to stay in Russia and what you will do here. How to get a Russian visa invitation for Indian citizens read below. I will suggest a company that made invitations for all my friends and to whom I can trust.

There are 4  main types of Russia visa for Indians:

• Tourist visa (1-30 days) : perfect for a short trip, tourism, sightseeing, visiting friends or family

• Business visa (30-90 days up to 5 years) : normally used for different conferences, business meetings, and expos but also many Indians obtain this visa for long-term tourism, long-term visits to relatives in Russia or for multiple entry traveling

• Work visa (1-3 years) : suitable for work in a Russian company or permanent residence

• Private visa (30-90 days) : official visit to friends living in Russia who personally sent you an invitation Not recommended! (It is much more practical and cheaper to use a tourist visa)

What you should know about Russian tourist visa for Indian citizens

You must get a tourist visa if you are planning to visit Russia for recreation and sightseeing. Russian consulate usually gives Indians a tourist visa for the whole period of stay but not more . You will have to provide a tourist invitation.

  • A copy of your passport . Make printed copies of all the pages with biometric data.

  • Pay the visa fee . According to VFS global the Consular fee is 2130 INR and Service charges are 1500 INR.

What is a tourist invitation letter (travel voucher) and why you must get it.

Tourist invitation – it is a contract between an Indian person and a Russian travel company. Only a specific list of travel agencies (to be precise the companies from Unified Register of Tour Operators) have a right to make such invitations. Each tourist invitation has an individual number. The tourist invitation consists of a tourist voucher and confirmation of tourist reception.

Usually when you apply for a Russian visa in India it is enough to submit a copy of the tourist invitation. I have never met any cases when a consulate requested to provide the original invitation letter.

How to check the invitation:

I wanted to show you a picture how a tourist invitation to Russia for Indians looks like but the appearance of such invitations can vary depending on the issuing travel agency.

Each invitation should contain the following data: • reference number and name of the travel company issuing the invitation • your name and passport details • the purpose of the trip (tourism in our case) • travel dates (do check it!) • the multiplicity of the visa (for Indians it can be only single entry) • cities that the tourist plans to visit (this field doesn’t have to match your real plan) • it must be signed by the head of the inviting travel company

What is a business invitation letter to Russia and why you must get it.

Such an invitation is issued by Russian migration office (FMS ). Once a legal Russian company applied for an invitation for you in Russia, the migration officers will check if you have done any violations during your previous visits to Russia (if you ever visited before). If everything alright they will issue an invitation for you and the inviting company can send it to you by email.

You can ask the inviting company to make such an invitation for you or you can buy it online through a Russian company that makes business invitations for Indian citizens. I suggest you to buy because it is fast and doesn’t put any stress on your partners (trust me, migration offices are always stressful here).

If you don’t have any business partners in Russia and you want to stay in Russia more than 30 days then you have to buy the invitation online.

If you want to look for an employer in Russia I recommend you to come to Russia with a tourist visa until you find a job. You can look for a job in Russia here . The tourist invitation you can get here .

Private (guest) visa to Russia for citizens of India

A private visa (guest visa) to Russia is issued if you want to visit relatives or friends who live in Russia. For a private visit you will need to have a private visa invitation. Your friends or family members must go to the Main Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and file documents to be able to send you the invitation.

Attention! I do not recommend using a private visa! We did it for my sister-in-law’s parents (they are from Bulgaria) and it takes too much time, documents and energy. I suggest you to get a tourist visa it is faster and muuuch easier.

Russian private visa requirements for Indians:

  • An official invitation letter from the Ministry of Internal Affairs . A printed copy must be enough.
  • A request letter from a Russian citizen . Addressed to the Russian consulate in India requesting a joint entry.

Private invitation to Russia for citizens of India

If you have friends or family in Russia you can ask them to make an invitation for you. it is not possible to buy such invitation online (and why to buy it if there is an official tourist invitation).

These private invitations are a big pain in the ass . (Sorry for being slangy). It can take more than a month to prepare all the documents and issue the private invitation. DO NOT put your friends and family under such stress please. Just go here and get an official tourist invitation by email. (Within 24 hours!)

Travel Visa Information & Visa Services

U.S. passport owners have the privilege of being able to visit various countries—among them Canada, Mexico, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Belize, Iceland, and more—without needing a visa. However, a number of international destinations do require that travelers with U.S. passports purchase tourist visas before entering the country. Here’s what you need to know about a few of the more frequently visited countries that require visas from U.S. citizens upon arrival.

One of the last things you might think about is visa requirements when planning your next vacation.

Visa Requirements

Knowing which countries require a travel visa for U.S. citizens and understanding specific travel visa requirements for the country you plan to visit is of utmost importance. Unfortunately, there is not a set of travel visa rules that apply across the board. Each country that requires a travel visa will have its own requirements, so make sure to do your research and acquire all the documents needed prior to your visit.

While there are many countries that don’t require a visa for a short stay (usually between 30-90 days), they may require a visa for a longer visit.

How to Apply for a Travel Visa

For short-term travel, there are a couple of ways to secure a visa. For some countries, you can obtain a visa upon arrival by paying a fee at the airport, which is called “visa on arrival.” Some nations, however, require a visa application and approval before travel. For either scenario, the safest and smartest decision is to secure your visa in advance! There are many services that offer help with securing a travel visa and knowing how to get a visa for any country   can be a long process, so my suggestion is to start early!

Visa Application Form

Each country has different requirements and their own visa application form. Some visas can be obtained on arrival at the airport, while some visas must be applied for in advance.

Some visas take just a few days to receive after submission, while others can take several weeks. Again, begin your visa process as early as possible to assure you have no hiccups in your vacation plans.

All the Countries That Require Visas for Americans

For a full list of countries requiring tourist visas from U.S. citizens, including China, India, Russia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Kenya and more click here .

Indian Visa

You need a Visa to travel to India from the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia (as well as many other countries). Check the rules for your country, but U.S. citizens who want to travel to India for tourist purposes, and who plan to stay no longer than 60 days, may apply for a visa electronically. When I applied for my visa, the system was fairly clunky and I needed to upload a photo and a copy of my passport. I received my Indian visa within two days of applying.

Note, that India’s visa application process changes frequently, so the Indian embassy in Washington, D.C. suggests travelers to their website for updates before planning a trip. As things can change, do up to date research, but as of the writing of this article; a U.S. citizen can apply online for an electronic travel authorization referred to as an “e-Visa” up to four days before arrival in India, but no more than 30 days before travel. The e-Visa costs $100 and is valid for 60 days upon entry to India. (Be prepared to present a printed copy at customs in the international airport.)

Australian Visa

To apply for an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) you must have a valid passport and apply for your ETA with the passport and passport number you will be traveling to Australia with. You can purchase an Australian ETA no later than 24 hours in advance of your departure. Electronic tourist visas are valid for one year and permit multiple stays of up to 90 days in Australia. They currently cost $20 per person.

Russian Visa

To enter Russia, residents of most countries, including the US are required to obtain a visa in advance. In order to get a Russian visa , the first thing you need is an invitation (also known as visa support letter). After that, you can apply for the visa at a Russian consulate, a travel agent or with a visa service company. U.S. citizens can apply for as long as 36 months with a tourist visa.

Additional Required Paperwork

If you’re planning an international trip with a U.S. passport, be prepared with all of your paperwork. Although each country has different requirements, there are some general rules to observe when planning an international trip:

  • Your Passport must be valid for at least 6 months to travel to most international locations and must have at least two blank pages available in your passport.
  • You may be asked for  proof of onward travel , which is not a problem if you have a return ticket. If you plan on country-hopping, you’ll need to have proof of your travel plans. You may be refused to board on a flight if you cannot satisfy immigration that you plan on leaving their country. If you’re not sure when you plan on leaving, you can buy an onward flight that is refundable and re-book later.
  • Some countries require that you have  adequate medical insurance to cover your stay. Regardless of whether it is mandatory, we highly recommend that you purchase travel insurance .
  • It is rare, but you may be asked for  proof of funds and will need to satisfy immigration that you can support your travels. This can catch you off guard, and trying to log in to your internet bank on airport Wi-Fi can be a bit frantic. To be prepared, make sure you have a copy of a bank statement or a screenshot on your phone.
  • Regardless of whether a country has visa-free access, there are still requirements that need to be met if you’re going to travel abroad. We recommend that you confirm with the relevant embassy before making any travel plans.

Japan launches e-Visas for Indian tourists. Here's how you can apply | DETAILS

The much-awaited Japan e-Visa programme was launched in India on April 1 and is valid for up to 90 days. The move aims to streamline the process of obtaining a visa to enable short-term travel from several countries to Japan.

Aveek Banerjee

The programme began in India on April 1. Under this e-Visa programme, Indian tourists no longer need to carry a physical passport to enter Japan. The programme is also available for travellers from Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The much-awaited Japan e-Visa programme can be availed through the Japan Visa Application centres operated by VFS Global. Under this revised system, tourists planning to visit Japan have to submit their applications to the Visa Application Centres, after which they will be able to receive electronic visas, thus removing the need to carry physical passport stickers.

How to apply Japan e-Visa?

Internet access is a must to file for an e-Visa for entering Japan. A digital 'visa issuance notice' must be presented to the authorities upon arrival at the airport, and any other format than that, including photos and screenshots, will not be considered valid for entry. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to avail an e-Visa for Japan.

  • To initiate the process of applying for an e-Visa, individuals must first access the official website of the Japan Visa Application Centre, managed by VFS Global, through https://visa.vfsglobal.com/ind/en/jpn/ .
  • From there on, individuals can choose the "Temporary Visitor Visa" option and review all requirements carefully. Tourists must download the application form and fill it out accurately before printing it. Correct documents must be provided by the individuals.
  • Individuals can then schedule an appointment to submit their application at the Visa Application Centre. Once they have booked their appointment, they will receive an appointment confirmation email along with their letter of appointment.
  • After the visa application form is submitted at the centre, the tourists will have to pay their application fee. After that, the tourists will have to wait for an email notification informing them of when the e-Visa is ready for collection. Approved applicants will receive an e-Visa instead of a physical visa. Individuals can also track their visa application status online using the reference number from the invoice or receipt issued by the centre.
  • While checking in at the airport, individuals will be required to display a "visa issuance notice" from their mobile devices, provided by the travel agency in either printed or PDF forms. The notice can be displayed by scanning a two-dimensional barcode with their devices and entering the required information. A countdown timer shown at the top right indicates that the notice is valid.

During the application process, the tourists planning to visit Japan may be requested to appear in person at the Japanese overseas establishment with jurisdiction over the place of the applicant's residence for an interview. By adhering to the stipulated criteria, Indian tourists can experience a seamless travel experience to Japan on a tourist e-Visa, valid for 90 days.

Thailand tourism strategy: Single-visa initiative to attract long-haul travellers, seamless travel in ASEAN

Thailand pushes for 6-nation visa to entice long-haul travellers, visa validity to be extended to 90 days from the usual 30-day period to make it attractive.

Thailand is steering an initiative for a joint- visa program with countries that together hosted about 70 million tourists last year as Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin ramps up initiatives to attract more long-haul and high-spending travellers.

Thailand tourism strategy: Single-visa initiative to attract long-haul travellers, seamless travel in ASEAN (File Photo)

Srettha — who’s pledged to elevate Thailand’s status as a tourism hotspot into an aviation and logistics hub — has discussed the Schengen-type visa idea with his counterparts in Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar and Vietnam in recent months. The facility is meant to ensure seamless mobility for travelers among the six neighboring countries.

With most leaders positively responding to the single-visa concept, tourism-reliant Thailand aims to generate more revenue per traveller and cushion its economy from headwinds such as sluggish exports and weak global demand that’s hurt its manufacturing industry.

The six Southeast Asian nations reported a combined 70 million foreign tourist arrivals in 2023, according to official data. Thailand and Malaysia accounted for more than half of the tally, generating about $48 billion in tourism revenue.

The single-visa is the most-ambitious among Srettha’s lineup of tourism initiatives but targeted for the long-term. The industry has served the country well, accounting for about 20% of total jobs and making up about 12% to the nation’s $500 billion economy. Barring the pandemic years, tourism has flourished and provided a cushion against a slump in manufacturing and exports, the traditional bulwarks of the economy.

The tourism industry is upbeat, with Marisa Sukosol Nunbhakdi, a former president of the Thai Hotels Association, saying “a common visa could entice long-haul travellers to make an easier decision.” The visa validity will need to be extended to 90 days from the usual 30-day period to make it attractive, she said.

Srettha’s administration has set a goal of attracting 80 million tourists by 2027. And since taking power about seven months ago, his government has signed a reciprocal visa waiver deal with China — Thailand’s largest market for tourists — and offered temporary visa waivers for travelers from India, Taiwan and Kazakhstan. It’s also mulling a plan to open casinos inside large entertainment complexes and event-based tourism will help the country generate more revenue.

If done right, the benefits of visa-free travel won’t be confined to tourism alone as ease of travel would be a boon for business travelers and trade, according to Bill Barnett, managing director of hospitality and property consultancy C9 Hotelworks.

But a Schengen-type visa, which allows free travel around the border-free zone within Europe, may be an uphill task given Asean’s poor track record in expediting multilateral policy framework and the group’s standing as a talk shop.

“Country by country seems to be the best way to do it,” Barnett said. “Bilateral agreements, where governments are leading the way for this type of thing, make a lot of sense as they are looking outward and not inward.”

For a joint visa scheme, approvals have to be coordinated and the absence of standard immigration criteria among participating nations unlike the European Union can pose challenges, according to Thitinan Pongsudhirak, professor at Chulalongkorn University’s political science faculty. Asean, as a grouping is a divided body with a poor immigration record, he said.

With Srettha being neophyte in politics, he may lack the clout to push through the visa proposal, Thitinan said.

“All the various things he’s been trying to do, I see it as picking low-hanging fruits and picking fruits off the ground,” Thitinan said. “Sometimes fruits on the ground are rotten.”

Brit tourist killed in India after ‘rough wave crashed him into dune’

Mandatory Credit: Photo by Sri Loganathan/ZUMA Press Wire/REX/Shutterstock (13684306b) People gather at a beach in Varkala Cliff to spend their weekend in Varkala, Kerala. Daily Life in Varkala, Kerala, India - 25 Dec 2022

A British tourist died while on a surfing holiday after a rough wave left him with horrifying injuries to his head and neck.

Roy John Taylor, 55, an expert body surfer from London , was at Varkala Papanasam Beach in the south Indian state of Kerala when the tragic incident took place at around 11.30am on Friday, local media has reported.

One of the lifeguards on duty at the time has been quoted as saying: ‘The person was doing body surfing on the waves when a rough wave swept him and crashed him onto the dune.

‘He suffered injuries on the head and neck and we gave him first aid and took him to the hospital.’

Mr Taylor is understood to have been in the company of a woman when the accident occurred.

Police told local media: ‘We have completed the inquest and the body has been sent for postmortem at Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram.

‘From the preliminary investigation, the accident happened because of rough waves while he was body surfing.’

Mr Taylor isn't the only British tourist to have died in India so far this year

They added that Mr Taylor’s death has been reported to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office, the Indian High Commission and the British Embassy.

It’s not the only story of British tourists dying under tragic circumstances while on holiday in India to have made headlines this year.

Just last week, a man was reported to have drowned in front of his wife while swimming off a beach in Goa, in the west of India. He was 72 years old.

At another beach in the region, the body of a woman was also found earlier in January.

Named by local media as Emma Louise Leaning, police said they were conducting an investigation into the woman’s cause of death though noted there did not appear to have been any foul play involved.
