Liebe Freunde,

je älter ich werde, desto klarer wird mir, dass ich zeit meines Lebens fast nichts anderes getan habe, als zu versuchen meine Jugendträume zu realisieren, dafür einiges auf mich zu nehmen und anderen zuzumuten. Bin ich meist erfolgreich in der Umsetzung banaler Vorhaben, scheitere ich an ehrgeizigeren Traumzielen (wie z.B. die Welt zu retten). Mehr als nur einen Bruchteil seiner Träume zu verwirklichen ist ohnehin unmöglich. Niemand kann das. Es kommt nur darauf an, seine Träume auch im Scheitern nicht zu entwerten, geringzuschätzen und sich ihrer nicht als Hirngespinste zu schämen.

Übrigens finde ich diese These, diese Gedanken über Träume, von kompetenter Seite gestützt. In seinem Drama Don Carlos lässt Schiller den Marquis Posa zur Königin sagen und dem Prinzen ausrichten:

  „... Sagen Sie Ihm,

Dass er für die Träume seiner Jugend

Soll Achtung tragen, wenn er Mann sein wird,

Nicht öffnen soll dem tötenden Insekte

Gerühmter besserer Vernunft das Herz

Der zarten Götterblume – dass er nicht

Soll irre werden, wenn des Staubes Weisheit

Begeisterung, die Himmelstochter, lästert...“

(Don Carlos IV, 21)

Ich habe dieses Schiller-Zitat quasi zu meinem Lebensmotto erhoben. Ich denke, dass ich Achtung trage für die Träume meiner Jugend. Mehr noch, mir waren die Versuche, meine Jugendträume zu verwirklichen, immer selbstverständlich, so dass mir erst jetzt bewusst wird, dass darin womöglich der Sinn des – zumindest meines – Lebens besteht. Wobei die Betonung auf „Jugend“ liegt. Mit dem Älterwerden träume ich weniger, die Fähigkeit zur Begeisterung ist mir weitgehend erhalten geblieben. In der ersten Strophe von Georges Moustakis wunderbarem Lied Le Métèque , heißt es:

...Avec mes yeux tout délavés Qui me donnent l’air de rêver Moi, qui ne rêve plus souvent...

(...Mit meinen ganz verwaschenen Augen, die mir ein Aussehen geben, als ob ich träume,  – mir, der nicht mehr oft träumt...)

Die Träume seiner Jugend bilden für den Künstler später, indem er sie in Bezug zu der ihn umgebenden Wirklichkeit setzt, nicht nur die nie versiegenden Quellen seiner Ideen, sondern auch wirksame Barrieren gegen das „tötende Insekt gerühmter besserer Vernunft“ – ich könnte keine „vernünftigen“ Lieder schreiben.

Träume sind nicht mit Illusionen zu verwechseln, auf die irgendwann immer die Ernüchterung folgt, die aber zu ertragen ist – jeder macht sich hin und wieder irgendwelche Illusionen. Doch auch hier lauern auf den Künstler Fallen, in die er tappen kann. Und eine sich als „nüchtern realistisch“ gebende Sicht der Dinge ist oft nichts weiter als „des Staubes Weisheit“ – die unfruchtbar und zynisch „Begeisterung, die Himmelstochter, lästert.“ Und ebenso wenig wie „vernünftige“ könnte ich „nüchterne“ Lieder schreiben.

On October 26, 2022, in a ceremony in the hall of the Haus Nottbeck cultural estate, the Rottendorf Prize for Low German was awarded, at the suggestion of the Westphalian Homeland Association, to

awarded. With the prize, the Rottendorf Committee in the Westphalian Homeland Association as well as the Rottendorf Foundation honor “the courageous, uncompromising and unprejudiced treatment of Low German” in the songwriter’s work.

With his LP “Plattdeutsche Lieder” (1974), Hannes Wader made a decisive contribution to freeing Low German from its ancestral “Heimat milieu” and making it socially acceptable in new circles. Also in his autobiography “Trotz alledem. Mein Leben” (2019), Wader sets up a personal monument to Low German, the colloquial language of his parental home.

Hannes Wader was born in 1942 in Bethel near Bielefeld in the simplest of circumstances. His performances at Burg Waldeck made him known to a larger audience in the 1960s. Together with Reinhard Mey, Franz Josef Degenhardt and Hanns Dieter Hüsch, he was one of the most prominent members of a new German singer-songwriter scene.

In addition to his socially critical yet lyrical and poetic songs, Wader devoted himself in the 1970s to folk song, which was frowned upon at the time. After 50 years, he ended his touring life in 2017. In 2013 he was awarded the ECHO prize for his life’s work, which includes 37 studio and live albums. In 2019, his autobiography “Trotz alledem. My life”.

In his welcoming address, the chairman of the Rottendorf Foundation stated: “Like you, dear Mr. Wader, Andreas Rottendorf was at home in (East) Westphalia. Like you, he was able to reach the hearts of his Westphalian compatriots with unerring accuracy, wit and humor “in Platt”. In this respect, there are numerous overlaps with your decades of work as a singer and author. Your life’s work deserves the highest recognition and, in our opinion, rightly the award of the Rottendorf Prize.”

In her welcoming address, the managing director of the Westfälischer Heimatbund, Dr. Eilers, pointed out the importance of the dialect as the language of the homeland for the people. Regional dialects are spoken less and less and their existence is endangered. It is an important task of the local heritage associations to maintain the Low German dialect.

The laudation was held in the form of an extraordinary and remarkable dialogue by Prof. Dr. Walter Gödden, the scientific director of Kulturguts Haus Nottbeck, and the chairman of the Rottendorf Committee Georg Bühren. In it, the two traced the career of the prize winner, his love of Low German and his performances as a songwriter, and came to the overall conclusion: “Hannes Wader has emphatically promoted Low German.

After the award was presented by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Rottendorf Foundation, Father Johann Spermann SJ, and the Chairman of the Board, the prize-winner then thanked the audience in his own inimitable way, picked up the guitar and performed the song “Et wassen twee Künigeskinner” with his own setting of the poem by Annette von Droste-Hülshoff.

The ceremony was excellently accompanied musically by the group “Delta Boys”.

All participants, but above all the prize winner, were thanked for their performances by prolonged applause from the numerous guests present. The closing words were spoken by Dr. Klewitz-Haas, Deputy Chairwoman of the Rottendorf Foundation.

I cant recommend this tour highly enough. I asked a friend to recommend one thing to do with limited time in Moscow and he said, check out the metro. I did one better, and went on this individual tour yesterday with my very well informed guide, Alina. She took me to a number of stations and explained the history, politics and meanings behind the different sculpures and artworks in a way that made the whole experience far more meaningful than getting on and off the metro without guidance would have done. I had a really fantastic time and was thoroughly impressed. To top it all off, we had lunch and Alina suggested some great things for me to do, even whatsapping me maps, suggestions, and internet links. Today she followed up by messaging me to ask how my day was going and if I had any questions about the city, or recommendations for places to eat, etc. A great tour, a lovely guide and a fantastic experience. I couldnt recommend this tour, or Alina, any more highly. Fantastic!

My son and myself visited Moscow for a holiday in April 2018. And we had selected this fantastic tour. Our Guide Mrs. Julia came sharp at 10.00 AM even though she was not feeling well and had sore throat. Thereafter she took us to many Metro stations. Though I had already visited Moscow last year and seen all these stations, she gave phenomenal historic background and many interesting facts. She was almost fluent in English and and a good knowledge of Russian Culture, food and many other things. Overall we enjoyed thoroughly and I will highly recommend this tour with Julia if possible. Truly amazing person. And even more amazing tour.

Our Tour booked for 26 December 2017 was absolutely amazing. Our guide Julia picked us up from our Hotel in St Peterburg on time in a luxury minivan. Thanks to Julia we were able to see most of the tourist attractions that day. She went out of her way for us to make our day special. She had a vast knowledge of all the places that we visited. Lunch was special in a typical Russian restaurant with food from the region. I would definitely recommend this tour.

Picked up in the hotel lobby by our guide, Lylie, who then walked us to the closest Metro. She walked/trained us to 13 different stations and then explained the history of the metro and the significance of the decor in each station. We had plenty of time to photo, view the decor, watch and ride the trains and observe the people coming and going with their daily affairs. The art work/mosaics/sculptures/stained glass/ marble all had a role to play in presenting the history of communist Russia. The Russian metro well deserves the title of the most interesting and outstanding metro in the world. Lylie then took us to lunch, advised us on menu choices and their significance in the Russian culture and was very happy answering our questions on how the younger generation is responding to the new Russia. We had an outstanding guide, a fantastic experience and would highly recommend this tour over and above other tours which merely include a visit to a small number of stations.
