We have the world map and it’s great but I’d love to see one of just the Caribbean! We like to travel to different islands down there but these maps obviously have a difficult time capturing such small areas.

The Pop Chart National Park Scratch-Off Map features all 63 US National Parks (including New River Gorge, which was added in January 2021) in a simple, clean, aesthetically pleasing grid. 

You can buy the scratch-off poster on its own or with a frame for an additional cost. 

The frame doesn’t come with a glass or acetate protective sheet over it so you can continue to scratch off all the national parks. 

The smallish size of this national park scratch-off poster makes it a great addition for an office (TBH, I’m eyeing this one for *my* office). 

Unlike some scratch-off maps that cover the entire image with gold or silver foil, the image is only partially obscured on this national park map and you scratch off the silver foil to reveal vibrant colors underneath. 

Because you still get to see the muted tones of the whole picture before you scratch it off, this is a good poster for those who haven’t been to many national parks. 

It can also be good for those who are going through them slowly (cuz at least you’ll be able to see the park image if not the color). 

One downside is that this scratch-off poster doesn’t come with a scratch tool, but a penny will suffice. 

#2 Enno Vatti US National Park Scratch-Off Poster

Size: 16’’x 20’’ Best for: National park lovers who are college students.

The Enno Vatti US National Park Scratch-Off Poster is a larger, poster-sized scratch-off map with a teal background and “window-shaped” scratch-off icons arranged in a grid format. 

And yes, this national parks poster has also been updated with the 63rd National Park, New River Gorge. 

Each US national park is symbolized with its name and a gold foil layer that obscures most of the icon details. 

The 16’’ x 20’’ size fits into standard poster frames and would be an easy way for a college student to have a nice-looking framed poster in their room. 

Enno Vatti sells hundreds of thousands of posters every year, and each poster is made of high-quality card stock and hand-wrapped in protective paper. 

If it’s not going in a college dorm room, this would also make the perfect national park gift for a loved one who loves visiting the parks. 

#3 Mappinners National Parks Scratch-Off Travel Print

Size: 16’’ x 20’’ Best for: Those with lots of US national parks under their belt.

The Mappinners National Parks Scratch-Off Travel Print is an attractive 16’’ x 20’’ poster with a white background and gold foil US national parks icons. 

Each gold icon has a little peek-through arrowhead-shaped window, which is cute because the arrowhead is the logo of the national parks. 

As a bonus, Mappinners scratch-off national parks maps come with a scratching tool (the lid of the poster tube). 

And Mappinners makes several different styles of national park maps (don’t worry, I include them on this list too). They also make other maps with the states, state flags, and other USA memorabilia. 

This poster is a good choice if you’ve already been to many national parks because you can’t see the image underneath without scratching off the gold foil. The poster may be boring to look at if you’re a park newbie. 

That said, the white and gold color scheme is quite classy and some people may still find it attractive even if they haven’t been to many parks yet. 

Each poster comes in a protective tube which makes mailing them or moving them very easy. This is how I move all my posters and it’s a great system. 

You can also order a travel print scratch-off map to go with the poster size, which you can take with you in the car!

#4 Mappinners National Park Scratch-Off Travel Map

Size: 16’’ x 20’’ Best for: Those who want travel recommendations with their scratch-off maps.

The Mappinners National Park Scratch-Off Travel Map is a map of the United States with 62 (sorry, not 63) of the US national parks in their locations on the map. 

Each park on this national park poster is represented by a gold foil arrowhead with a number on it. 

At the bottom of the map, there’s a legend that shows which park goes with which number and gives you the five most iconic spots at that park (like Half Dome at Yosemite , etc). 

This is one of the few scratch-off maps to include “to-do’s” at each park, but unfortunately, Mappinners hasn’t updated their national park map to include the most recent national park addition. 

For someone who loves symmetry and completion like me, this would be a deal-breaker. 

But it’s also good to consider that no matter which product you purchase, it will eventually become outdated as new parks are added to the system every few years. 

This scratch-off poster comes with a protective poster tube and has a scratch tool right in the lid of the tube.

#5 Map Your Travels National Parks Travel Quest Poster

Size: 19’’ x 26’’ Best for: Old-timey national park enthusiasts.

The Map Your Travels National Parks Travel Quest Poster has a retro, campy aesthetic with hand-drawn images by a Minnesota artist. 

This is not actually a scratch-off map, but rather comes printed on glossy paper with campfire stickers to mark off your national parks bucket list. 

You can commemorate your national park adventures with one of two options. They give you either red or blue campfire stickers, the blue stickers are indented to represent your favorite national parks. 

This national park tracking map features a map of the USA on a wood print background. Each park is represented by a tree icon and around the border of the USA map is a national park “stamp” that is hand-drawn by the artist. 

This national park map is proudly produced in Minnesota. In addition to the artist being a Minnesotan, the map is printed in Minnesota and laminated to make it extra durable. 

This map has not yet been updated with the 63rd national park. 

#6 Kuuly’s Personalized National Parks Poster Bucket List

Size: 8’’x10’’, 11’’x14’’, 16’’x20’’ Best for: Outdoorsy newlyweds.

The Kuuly’s Personalized National Parks Poster Bucket List is a national park scratch map that you can add your own title to at the top. 

For example, it can say “The Brown Family’s National Park Bucket List” or you can choose a standard title that just says “National Parks” at the top. You can also choose one of two font choices.

This US national parks scratchable map also comes in three sizes so you can choose the size that fits your space best. And you can choose between either silver foil or gold foil to cover the icons. 

Beneath each foil-covered icon is a lovely watercolor illustration of each park. The icons are arranged in grid format, and the map has been updated with the newest national park. 

With all the available customizable options, this is one of the most personalizable scratch-off maps. 

#7 Framed US National Parks Explorers Guide

Size: 17’’ x 24’’ Best for: Anyone who wants to support the National Forest Foundation.

Framing artwork can be shockingly expensive but with the US National Parks Explorers Guide by Epic Adventure Maps, you get a national park scratch-off map with a wooden frame included. 

The wooden frame is magnetic and made of two pieces of wood that attach to the top and bottom of the map. 

The magnetic frame locks onto either side of the map without damaging it and is easy to assemble. Plus, if you wanted to use it for other artwork down the line, you could. 

Epic Adventure Mpas really thought of everything.

This national park scratch map comes in three color schemes (dark blue, beige, and grey) and each park icon is represented by a pine tree covered in gold foil. 

One unique aspect of this national parks scratch-off chart is that for every map sold, a tree is planted in partnership with the National Forest Foundation. That’s an item I can get behind! 

One thing to note – I couldn’t find a mention on whether this map has been updated with New River Gorge National Park. 

#8 Travelization Scratch Off Map

Size: 17’’x24’’ Best for: Anyone who wants to learn about the national parks.

The Newverest map was one of my favorite national parks scratch-off maps because it came with info cards covering every U.S. national park.

But since the Newverest U.S. National Parks scratch map is no longer available, I went hunting for something comparable.

If you’re looking for gift ideas, I recommend pairing the Travelization Scratch Off Map with the new National Parks Trivia Game that just came out.

The map is black and gold, marked with national park locations and the highest peaks. This means that I not only get to scratch off the park itself, but I can scratch off the peaks of national park hikes that I survive.

Along with the card game, it’s the perfect gift for national park enthusiasts. National park trivia is a fun way to pass the hours on a national park road trip or while huddled in a tent after a long day of hiking.

Just wait, my friends and I are becoming experts on fun facts and stats about all of the national parks.

Size: 16’’x20’’ or 11’’x14’’ Best for: Anyone who appreciates the outdoors and fine craftsmanship.

The PennyBeeArt National Park Push Pin Map is *not* a scratch-off poster but hear me out! I had to let you know this little beauty was out there. 

This is a beautifully crafted, handmade map of the US national parks, but instead of scratching the parks off your bucket list, it comes with adorable pine tree push pins. 

The piece is printed on 100% cotton canvas and, as the seller points out, is a great 2nd anniversary gift because the second year is meant to be cotton. 

There are a few different sizing options and frame types (including three different types of wood) with the option for a customizable title. 

This is a pricey keepsake but remember that you’re paying a small business owner and getting a high-quality item in return. 

Plus, this item has been updated to include the 63rd national park, New River Gorge. 

#10 WhakeStudios National Parks Bucket List Board

Size: 11’’x18’’ Best for: National Park employees. 

The WhakeStudios National Parks Bucket List Board is another alternative to scratch-off maps. 

This is a wooden board made of either cherry, maple, or white oak wood with laser-engraved arrowhead-shaped cutouts for each of the 63 national parks (including New River Gorge). 

When you’ve checked a new park off your bucket list, you simply slot the arrowhead piece in. Each piece fits snugly in its intended compartment so you don’t have to worry about it falling out. 

The top of the board says “US National Parks” and the bottom is engraved with a quote from Theodore Roosevelt, “The joy of living is his who has the heart to demand it.”

One fun fact about employees of national parks is that when they move to a new park, they get a wooden arrowhead with their service dates inscribed on it and the name of the park. 

This board is highly reminiscent of the wooden arrowheads given to parks employees. So if you know a parkie, this would make a great gift for them!

The DestinationScratched 8’’x10’’ US National Parks Scratch-Off Travel Map is a small, personalized national park scratch-off map that’s perfect for a camper van or any other small space. 

This national park scratch map has a unique color scheme from any of the other scratch-off maps I’ve seen – it’s a blue/green map on a white background. 

Due to the small size and reasonable price, this could also be a good national park poster for young siblings who *have* to have their own *everything.* 

Yes, they’ve probably been to all the same parks, but you know there will be crying if someone scratches off a park they weren’t supposed to. So why not get each kid their own? 

The US national parks are represented as silver pine trees. Alas, this doesn’t include all the United States national parks as it’s missing New River Gorge. 

#12 GeoJango National Park Map with Roads

Size: Multiple 24’’x16’’ all the way to 72’’x48’’ Best for: People who love to explore ALL the national park units.

The GeoJango National Park Map with Roads is a push-pin map of the national parks with a highly detailed topographic and road map overlaid. 

This map is made by a woman who’s a professional cartographer, and her love of maps shines through. 

She not only included the 63rd national park but also included *all* the national park units, including national memorials, national monuments, national historic sites, national scenic trails, national seashores, and national battlefields. 

Just because it doesn’t have the designation “national park,” doesn’t mean it’s any less spectacular and I love that she included all the park units. 

This national park map is a ton of fun to look at with all the detail on it and is a great tool to help you plan your next trip. 

To mark off a new park, you use standard push-pins, which you have to supply yourself.

Honestly, choosing the best national park scratch-off map was difficult because there are so many great options out there. 

While I loved the customizability of Kuuly’s National Parks Poster and the aesthetic of the Pop Chart Map , I ultimately chose the US National Park Scratch-Off Map because of their support to the National Forest Foundation. 

National forests and national parks are different agencies, but either way, a portion of each map sold goes to improving our outdoor environment. Isn’t that the point of celebrating the national parks anyway? 

And in addition to the lovely aesthetic of this national parks poster, it comes in three different color schemes and has a reusable, easy-to-assemble magnetic frame.

From what we could gather, there are two types of styles out there on the market: the colorful fun options and the designs that use more muted tones. We wanted to make sure that we selected designs that reflected both of these for those that want something that is a little bit different. The colorful options are typically a little bare when it comes to the information that they offer. They typically do not have any cities or landmarks noted within the country , and they do not show rivers or mountain ranges. If you want something that is going to look like your standard globe or atlas, you are going to want to select one of the more neutral color options. While the tones may be muted, they often reveal markings of mountain ranges, cities, rivers, and lakes. There are also two basic backdrops to select from, black and white. We discovered that the black options are typically more popular because when countries are revealed it is a bit more impactful than a simple white backdrop.

Ease of Use

Once you remove that foil there is no going back, so we wanted to select designs that were going to be easy to use.

There is nothing worse than coming home to reveal a new country only to find that the foil is stuck to the paper like glue, and in your struggle to remove it, you also remove some of the colorful paper underneath. One way we determined if a product is going to give you trouble is by reading what past users had to say about how easy the foil was to remove. Users will not hold back when they found that the foil was proving to be difficult. While it is something that may happen from time to time, if we found that there was an overwhelming number of users complaining about difficult foil, we would move on to another product. Another good indicator of how difficult it would be to remove is based upon the type of paper used. Generally, thicker cardstock is going to provide an easier surface for removal over your standard paper.

Each journey is going to be different, so we liked products that offered a lot of different accessories that will allow you to personalize your product.

Users seemed to really respond well to things like packs of stickers and buttons that would allow them to highlight areas to emphasize a really great (or really terrible) trip. One important tool that came standard with most designs was the guitar pick. Some countries or states are going to be incredibly small, and even the smallest denomination of the coin isn’t going to work in those incredibly small spaces. The guitar pick is going to be the perfect size to fit comfortably in your fingers, and it is going to be able to really carve out jagged border lines. Some companies went one step farther and offered users a carving pen that has an incredibly sharp tip for precise work.

Size is going to dictate how much room it is going to take up when you hang it on the wall to proudly display, and it is also going to dictate how hard it will be to carve out those smaller countries.

From our research, we found that the standard size measures to be about 24 inches long and 17 inches wide. If you are looking for something that is going to be a bit larger, 35 inches by 24 inches is going to be the way to go. These styles are great because they are going to be able to be clearly visible when hanging on your wall , and they are also going to be a lot easier to check out details and carve out those smaller places. On the smaller end is the designs that measure to be around 16 inches wide and 11 inches long. When you think of these, imagine a slightly wider sheet of legal printer paper.

We took the price into consideration because traveling the world can be expensive! There were two very distinct price points when it came to these types of products. Designs that are printed on thin glossy paper often come at a much more reasonable price point that will likely set you back the same amount you would spend on a book to read at the airport. While these designs may be more affordable, they often don’t have the same polished look as their cardstock counterparts, and sometimes removing the foil is going to be a little more difficult. If cost is of no concern, cardstock options are typically priced to be double the amount of thinner glossy paper but are well worth the added cost. Not only do these designs look better when mounted on a wall, but users report that the foil is often a lot easier to remove.

The backdrop of this design is a matte black, and the unvisited countries are covered in a gold foil. Once you have visited the country, a bright and cheery color will be revealed once the foil is removed.

From what we have found, the thick foil on top of the countries is quite simple and easy to remove, and it can be removed from the paper very smoothly. This way, you don’t run the risk of tearing the paper underneath.

Users will receive a foil remover that looks like a guitar pick for more precise foil removal for those small countries, as well as a pack of stickers that will allow you to mark special places that you visited. Plus, users will also receive an additional United States map for all of that stateside adventures.

What we liked most about this option is that it comes in at a really affordable price point. When you take into consideration all of the extra features that you get with your purchase, you really cannot beat this value.

For those that are looking for something that is sleek and comes with lots of extras, this is going to be one of your best options. With this price point, you could purchase one for all of the travelers in your life.

2 . Notablon

We really liked this option from Notablon because it has a sharp blackout design that comes to life when you start traveling to different countries around the world. It offers users a few fun additions to really help bring your product to life, and it is offered at an affordable price point.

What makes this design a little bit different is that the foil on top is as black as the rest of the paper. Once you start traveling and revealing countries, the paper underneath is color-coordinated in very bright colors that will bring it to life.

There were few complaints from past users that felt that this design was difficult to remove the foil on the top. The countries on the surface are a little bit smaller than other designs, so you may run into a few difficulties getting into those really small spaces .

Users will receive a few extra features when they purchase this product. Users will receive a guitar pick that is great for outlining jagged country borders, and a long eraser is going to be very helpful in removing smudges. This unit also comes with a small magnifying glass to really be able to get into detail on those smaller spaces. Plus, it comes with an extra map of the United States.

The world option measures to be 24 inches long and 17 inches high, while the United States measures to be 17 inches long and 11 inches high.

What users really like most about this design is that it comes in at a really affordable price point. When you take into consideration all of the additional features you will receive, you cannot beat this value.

What we liked most about this option from Notablon is that the entire paper is dark, and it really starts to come to life as you begin to reveal all of the places that you have seen.

This design offers the classic black background that is accented with matte gold foil over unvisited countries. It also has a set of world flags at the bottom that you can reveal as well. Traveled countries, once revealed, are presented in bright colors that really bring it to life.

Due to the fact that this unit is printed on thicker cardstock, it is going to be a little bit easier and more pleasant to use the guitar pick (included) to reveal the countries beneath the gold foil.

Users will receive a guitar pick that is going to make revealing smaller countries with jagged borders a little bit easier and cleaner. This product also comes with a set of travel stickers to mark your favorite spots, an eraser to clean smudges, and a magnifying glass.

This unit measures to be 24 inches long and 17 inches wide- which is pretty standard in comparison to other options out there on the market.

The downside about this more structured and higher quality design is that it also comes at a price point that is almost double of some of the others that we have seen. However, if you want something that is going to be of higher quality for displaying purposes, this is going to be well worth the added cost.

Users like this design due to the higher quality of materials that it is printed upon. This cardstock is not only going to too better when displayed, but it is also going to make it much easier to remove the gold foil.

If you are just planning to travel within the United States, this design from Scratch Story Maps is going to be a better option for you. What we liked about this design is that the finished product revealed underneath is unlike many of the designs out there on the market.

The background of this option is white, and the states are coated in a gold foil. What we liked most about this design is that as you travel to the different states, the color underneath is a soft watercolor.

One of the downsides to this stylish design is that we noticed that there were a few users that felt there were sections of the paper that did not strip away as easy as some of the others. This isn’t going to be a deal-breaker, but it may mean that some states will have marks on the paper from where you struggled.

Users will receive a guitar pick to make it easier to create clean lines between borders, and it also comes with an eraser that will remove smudges. Plus, it comes with a set of stickers to help personalize your various trips to all of the states.

This unit measures in to be 18 inches long, and 12 inches wide- which is just a little bit smaller than the global designs that we have seen out there on the market.

The cost of this unit runs about the same cost as many of the affordable global options. Considering that you only receive the United States, the cost of this is just a little bit higher than most.

If you are looking for something that offers a little bit more style and character for all of your stateside adventures, this is a great choice that is different from anything else that you may find out there.

This design is something that is made to be hung on a wall and admired. It offered a sharp glossy black finish on the background, and the untraveled countries are also covered in a glossy gold finish.

Due to the fact that this design is constructed from incredibly thick cardstock, removing the gold foil is going to be incredibly simple and easy. There were virtually no complaints from previous users about the foil being difficult to remove.

Users will receive a heavy-duty pick, a pack of stickers, push pins, a felt cloth for cleaning smudges and a greeting card.

What we liked most about this design is that it is far bigger than many of the other designs that we have seen. It measures in at 35 inches long and 25 inches wide. For stateside travels, this design from Marvel Us Maps is going to be really fun and unique. It has a very matte and basic design when it arrives, yet the image that is revealed under the basic white backdrop is going to make you want to get in your car and clear as many state borders as you can!

As we mentioned, this design has a white background with white foil over all of the states. When you travel to a state, under the foil is a photograph that best depicts one of the big features of that state. For instance, once you undercover New York state, you will reveal a picture of the New York City skyline.

From what we have read from previous users, they didn’t seem to have a lot of trouble removing the foil. Some of the smaller states, such as Massachusetts, are going to be a little tricky to get into, but luckily Marvel Us Maps provides you will the tools to make it a little easier.

Instead of providing a basic guitar pick to clear away foil, Marvel Us Maps provides users a very precise pen that will allow you to get into all of those tiny New England states. It also comes with a sheet of protective plastic to prevent the foil from being accidentally removed when bumped.

Even though it only depicts the United States, this design is a lot larger than even some of the global options. It measures to be 32 inches long and 24 inches wide.

One of the downsides to this design is that is priced to be much more expensive than some of the more affordable global options out there on the market. However, we feel that the clever design makes it well worth the slightly higher price point.

If you want something a little bit different in your stateside design, this is going to be one of your better options. Users love to reveal what photograph lies just under the surface, and it makes a very stunning final product once you have seen it all!

8 . Maps International

As we mentioned earlier, the styling of this global design is just a little bit different from the norm. It has a white backdrop with gold for black borders. When you reveal countries under the foil, they are revealed to be a more muted color and are shaded to expose the higher and lower elevations as you would find on a globe.

From what we have gathered from previous users, there wasn’t much trouble removing the foil from this feature. It is offered in a large enough size that makes the smaller countries a little bit easier to clear.

The downside to this model is that it doesn’t come with a lot of the fun extras that many of the other designs come with. A photo shows a user removing foil with a pick, but there is no indication on the product description that this unit comes with any additional accessories.

What we liked about this design is that users are going to have two sizes to select from. The smaller option measures to be 22 inches by 17 inches (which is slightly smaller than your standard option), and the larger design measures to be 33 inches by 22 inches.

Naturally, the smaller design is going to be more affordable than the larger option. However, the smaller design is still priced to be more expensive than many of the affordable options out there, and this brand doesn’t offer as many accessories.

For those that want something that uses subtle colors and isn’t as flashy as some of the more colorful designs out there, this is going to be one of your better choices.

This global style has a white backdrop with matte gold foil and black borders. As you travel to different parts of the world, the countries will expose glossy neutral colors with depictions of mountains and cities.

Users found that removing the foil on this design that is made from high-quality cardstock is simple and easy and won’t leave scuff marks on the surface.

Our next option is a brightly colored map that can be used in many different ways. It stands out to children, making it a great educational tool, but can also be used by adults. We especially like that the capitals are listed above and below the foil and the brightness of the flags that are revealed after scratching.

This vibrantly colored map is a great choice for adults, students, and children. The ocean is a bright and attractive color and the flags that are revealed and bright and contrasting. The countries are gray until you scratch them off, which can be a little bland, but maybe that will help kickstart your vacation planning.

I have been using this app to motivate myself to branch out and see more cities etc when I have the chance. Being able to mark specific regions and cities is very useful, and when a city isn’t on the map the developers are quick to add it once it’s been requested. I have occasionally had an issue where the app will glitch and mark me as currently being in a country that I’m not in. Unsure if that’s an issue with the app or my phone’s GPS etc though. Also, there’s a bit of a visual issue on the “share” maps with places marked as disputed territories— they don’t show up and it makes it seem like you haven’t been there. It’s really noticeable when you’ve been to all the surrounding areas. I understand there might be some sensitive political issues, but perhaps a toggle for “show disputed territories” would be good?

Best travel tracking app

I’m obsessed with Skratch. I specifically downloaded it because not only you can mark the countries you’ve been to (which is typically what these apps do), but you can check states, regions, and cities! All the specifics you could imagine. And as a frequent traveler and lover, this is something one appreciates because having visited France (when you only went to Paris) is not the same thing, hahaha :) PLUS, I couldn’t find two cities that I’ve been on the map, I wrote an email, and they added them! I love when apps are in continuous improvement, and they show it! Best customer service ever :) plus, Ryan wrote a nice email notifying me that they added these cities for me!!

Smaller Countries and Social Aspect

I’ve throughly enjoyed my use of the app so far however I believe there is some error with whether smaller countries are counted as countries or territories. When I share the link to my map, countries such as Vatican City, Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao are marked as territories instead of countries. Additionally I think it would be neat if there was a way to follow other people and have collaborative travel “want” lists between two or more people. Maybe there could even be a way to make some pictures public for others to see as well. I love how you can share the links with other people and I think it would be even cooler to be able to follow and track other people’s travel adventures through the app. Overall, this app is one of the best I’ve seen so far and I look forward to using it more in the future! Thanks!
