Canary Islands

Located 70 miles off the coast of Africa, the Canary Islands, a territory of Spain, is an archipelago comprised of seven volcanic islands that the ancient Romans once referred to as the Fortunate Islands. Rugged terrain and black-sand beaches make up the brilliant landscape, which is home to all kinds of wildlife, including an interesting assortment of European and African birds, lizards, geckos, the Canarian shrew and the Algerian hedgehog, as well as a diverse variety of marine life.

Long considered a tropical paradise for European travelers, the Canary Islands has emerged as a popular cruise destination due to its exotic locale and modern European style. Well-known for perfect weather and sun-drenched beaches, the islands offer captivating natural attractions and fantastic scenery -- four national parks and four biosphere reserves are located there. More than 40 museums displaying archaeological artifacts and aboriginal and modern art are open to the public. Take a camel ride to Fire Mountain in Arrecife to view amazing lunar-like landscapes, enjoy the vibrant city life of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria or sunbathe on the volcanic black-sand beaches in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. A 200-year-old botanical garden is a highlight for visitors to Puerto de la Cruz, and Loro Parque houses the world’s largest collection of parrots.

  • The Canary Islands is a year-round cruise destination.
  • Cruises to the Canary Islands are typically 10 to 14 nights in length.
  • Often featured in conjunction with Western Mediterranean itineraries, cruises to the Canary Islands typically depart from popular cities such as Rome and Barcelona, and as far north as London. Occasionally the Canary Islands will be included as a port of call in westbound trans-Atlantic cruises. If you must fly a very long distance to reach your port of departure, we suggest that you arrive at the port city at least one or two days in advance of your Canary Islands cruise. This will give you time to rest and get oriented before boarding the ship. Most cruise lines offer pre-cruise hotel packages.

Island Princess Itineraries

Island princess review, review of island princess.

The 2003-built Island Princess cruise ship is the second of the two Coral-class Princess ships, together with Coral Princess .

The vessel (IMO number 9230402) is currently Bermuda- flagged (MMSI 310384000) and registered in Hamilton .

History - construction and ownership

Princess Cruises is a USA-based passenger shipping company headquartered in Beverly Hills CA. A former subsidiary of P&O Princess Cruises (1977-founded), in 2003, the company merged with Carnival Corporation - the world's largest cruise shipowner. Among Princess Cruise Lines Ltd's assets is the Caribbean private island resort Princess Cays (on Bahamas Eleuthera Island's southern end), located approx 80 km (50 mi) from Nassau .

Island Princess cruise ship

The 2200-passenger ship Island Princess and Coral Princess are "aberrations" for Princess Cruises. The line launched only two cruise vessels of this size before joining the rest of the industry in building ever-more-massive ships (like those in the Grand-class). Not part of either the group of biggest-in-fleet ships or the mid-sized Sun-class vessels, Island Princess falls somewhere in the middle and in many ways, it represents the best of both. Island Princess mixes the exotic (international crew members, stylish Italian dining venues, celebrity-style spa treatments) and the familiar (cruising's ubiquitous buffets, poolside umbrella drinks, cocktails and bingo). The public spaces are shiny, and even though the vessel was launched in 2003, there's no suggestion of wear and tear. Service is very good, especially in the dining venues. And the amusement is top rate. But the thing which really stands out is the quality of life onboard. Island Princess does a notable job of creating a typical Alaska experience that's highlighted by a lecture series featuring a state naturalist, National Park Service "ranger talks" and a presentation by the 1st woman to win the Iditarod. There is even a Princess travel guidance and map which allow guests to detect their navigational locations while referencing tales, points of interest and photos of the route.

Decks and Cabins

Island Princess staterooms (1107 total, in 34 grades) include 123 Suites, 581 Balconies, 181 Oceanviews and 122 Interior, also 20 wheelchair-accessible cabins. Almost 80% of all outside passenger accommodations have private step-out balconies. The largest are the Balcony Suites (300-470 ft2 / 28-44 m2 including the terrace).

The boat has 15 decks , of which 12 are passenger-accessible and 9 with cabins.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

The two main restaurants onboard Island Princess serve up traditional 5-course evening meals. The line offers set seating at 6 and 8:15 pm. in the Bordeaux and flexible anytime dining in the Provence Restaurant. The menus in both venues are the same with favourites, such as Executive Chef Martial Diffor's fettuccine alfredo, beef wellington, deep-sea cod in coriander butter sauce, twin broiled lobster tail. All meals are prepared to order. Menus in the main restaurants also offer vegetarian choices and Lotus Spa innovative dishes, with healthier options like chilled yoghurt and tamarind soup with grated lemon zest, filet of baby turbot with fennel Pernod sauce and tropical fruit smoothie with lime. Guests who prefer more formal fare can choose the sit-down service in the Bordeaux dining room for breakfast and lunch.

Follows the complete list of Coral Princess restaurants and food bars.

  • Bordeaux Restaurant (ship's forward Dining Room; dinner only)
  • Provence Restaurant (ship's forward Dining Room for Breakfast 7-9 am, Lunch 12-1:30 pm, Afternoon Tea 3:30-4:30 pm; “Anytime Dining” for Dinner between 5:30-8 pm or 8-10 pm, "Chef's Table" private dining)
  • Sabatini’s Restaurant (Italian speciality restaurant; reservations recommended)
  • Bayou Cafe & Steakhouse (speciality restaurant)
  • The Bar & Grill (complimentary fast food)
  • Horizon Court (self-service buffet restaurant, complimentary).

Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport

On either side of the Fiesta and Promenade Decks are the two grandest venues of Island Princess: Princess Theater and Universe Lounge. Tucked between the two are the majority of lounges and bars, including the clubby Explorers Lounge, the Wheelhouse Bar which is more sedate, the retro Crooners martini bar, Churchill's cigar lounge and the casino, with its various table games like blackjack, poker, roulette and state-of-the-art slots. By day, ScholarShip@Sea program focuses on enrichment with a wide range of programming. There are dance classes, lectures on bridge and fashion, computer instruction. When Island Princess gets to the Panama Canal, passengers are provided with a lecture about canal's history and how it works.

The vessel (STX France/Chantiers de l’Atlantique yard/hull number D32) has volume 92822 GT-tons, DWT-deadweight tonnage 8015 tons, max draught 8,3 m. The powerplant is based on 2x Wartisla marine diesel engines (model 16V46C) plus a gas turbine (model General Electric LM2500) with combined output 62,7 MW (84055 hp). The propulsion is CODLAG (combined diesel-electric and gas). The registered shipowner is PRINCESS CRUISE LINES LTD, while the registered manager is BRITTANY SHIPPING CORP LTD.

The vessel was ordered in 1999, its construction started in 2001 and was launched on July 2, 2002. The christening ceremony was on July 11, 2003, held dockside at Canada Place Cruise Terminal in Port Vancouver. The naming event was led by two godparents - the Canadian pairs figure skaters (Salt Lake Olympic Games figure skating gold medalists/spouses at the time) Jamie Rae Sale (1977-born/Olympic Champion 2002 & World Champion 2001) and David Jacques Pelletier (1974-born/Olympic Champion 2002). The Maiden Voyage left from Vancouver on July 3rd. The inaugural cruise (7-day "Voyage of the Glaciers" Alaskan itinerary) visited Ketchikan, Juneau, and Skagway, featuring scenic cruising in Glacier Bay NP (College Fjord). For the inaugural winter season (2003-2004/September-April) the ship was deployed in the Caribbean and homeported in Port Everglades-Fort Lauderdale (Florida USA) .

Note: In 2002, the Canadian couple Jamie Sale and David Pelletier had to share the gold medal with a Russian skating couple (Elena Berezhnaya and Anton Sikharulidze) - which is a rarity in figure skating. The issue raised discussions regarding assessments in this sport. The Canadians made their skating with no flaws, but Russia argued that the Russian couple's performance was more complex and therefore deserves the gold medal, despite a minor flaw in the performance. As a diplomatic way out, both couples were given gold medals.

Princess Cruises Island ship is the fleet's 2nd CORAL-class liner, with sistership Coral . The vessel was launched on July 12, 2003. The naming ceremony was held in Port Vancouver (BC Canada) .

Island Princess spends autumn, winter and spring sailing on 10-day or 2-week-long Panama Canal transition cruises visiting ports in Aruba, Costa Rica, Colombia, the Mexican Riviera. During summer, the ship offers 7-day Alaskan itineraries from Vancouver Canada to Whittier Alaska .

The Princess sisterships Island and Coral are the fleet's only Panamax vessels. Panamax ships cover all standards for transiting through the Panama Canal. In 2017, Caribbean Princess made its maiden season of Panama Canal cruises through the new locks (inaugurated on June 26, 2016).

It’s not very often that Princess Cruises have ships visiting the Canary Islands, in fact it’s normally only once a year!

As it’s such a rare occurrence, and an opportunity to take a no fly cruise from Southampton, we’ve highlighted the latest Princess Cruises to be scheduled to the Canary Islands.

Passengers can choose either traditional cruise dining with early or late seating, to dine at the same time each evening with other guests. Or select anytime dining for the freedom to dine at leisure between 17:30-22:00 where you have the option to dine alone or be seated with other guests. Reserve a table at one of the speciality restaurants for a special occasion, or just because you’re worth it!

In the Galician province of Pontevedra, situated on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, lies the city that lends its name to the southernmost estuary of the Rias Baixas: Vigo. Its fishing origin has left an historic quarter with a strong maritime flavour, which contrasts with the modern facilities of its marinas. This city is an excellent base from which to visit the towns and villages along the Vigo estuary and the Cies Isles that form part of the National Park of the Atlantic Islands. The cuisine of the Galician coast, based on fish and seafood, is an added incentive for visiting this region. The port of Vigo, one of the finest natural ports in the world, was the origin of this city fringed by mountains. Its maritime qualities, already exploited in Roman times, have given rise to the present-day marinas and the transatlantic harbour, as well as to the fishing and canning industries. All of this has contributed to the urban development of Vigo, which includes the traditional port area and boasts major historic buildings and wide tree-lined avenues. The historic quarter, the so-called Cidade Vella, is articulated around the old maritime quarter of O Berbés, near the port. Situated in this quarter, which has Tourist-Historical Interest status, are the arcades around the Plaza de la Constitución, fishing streets and emblazoned houses. One of the main features of this network of tiny streets, in which most façades have glass-encased miradors, is the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria, the Procathedral of Vigo-Tui. Neoclassical in style, this edifice is constructed on the remains of a Gothic church burned down by the pirate Francis Drake. Also worthy of visit in this area is the do Pedra market, a fascinating place for buying and sampling Galician oysters. The newer part of Vigo occupies a triangle formed by the Puerta del Sol, Colon and Urzaiz. Lining the wide avenues are notable buildings, one such being the García Barbon Cultural Centre, designed by Antonio Palacios. The modern sector contains one of the best miradors over the Vigo estuary, the Monte do Castro mount. Located amidst the forests and leisure areas are the remains of the hill-forts that constituted the early settlement, as well as the ruins of the 10th-century O Penso Castle, the layout of which was used for the construction of the 17th-century Tower Castle still standing. The large Municipal Park of Castrelos is located on what once was the estate of the Quińones de León country house. Amidst Neoclassical gardens and ancient trees, the Municipal Park contains an interesting collection of Roman steles, furniture and statuary, and an art gallery exhibiting European works from the Baroque period as well modern works by Galician artists. The park also boasts an open-air auditorium where key music events are held. The mounts of A Madroa and A Guía that lay around the city of Vigo provide magnificent viewpoints from which to admire the surrounding landscape. Also worthy of a visit is the Zoo, situated on Mount A Madroa, whilst the Municipal Park also contains the hermitage of Nosa Seńora da Guia. The Galician Museum of the Sea, situated at the Punta do Muińo in the parish of Alcabre, comprises buildings, gardens, a square and a wharf. The work of Aldo Rossi and César Portella, this complex houses various items related to the sea. The city of Vigo is easily accessible thanks to the motorway and airport, and there are also excellent nautical facilities and a golf course in the vicinity. At its maritime station it is possible to purchase passages to the coastal towns of Cangas and Moańa on the other side of the estuary, and even to the Cíes Isles. Part of the National Park of the Atlantic Islands, the sheer cliffs and dunes of these isles are the home of thousands of migratory birds. The route along the Vigo Estuary affords the contemplation of historic country houses such as Baiona. Its parador, an incomparable viewpoint over the Atlantic, combines elements of the past, such as the medieval fortress, with vestiges of Galician stately architecture. The restaurant serves both traditional and highly imaginative dishes made with products from the region, such as sea bass with razor-shells in turnip green sauce. The beaches of Nigrán, the oysters of Arcade and, further inland, the Mondariz Spa, are just some of the area's numerous attractions. Another attraction of the province of Pontevedra is its capital city, which is situated on the estuary of the same name. The network of streets and squares that make up its historic quarter contain major civic and religious buildings. The palace of the Counts of Maceda houses the city's parador, which provides privileged accommodation for over-night stays. Another of the major ports along the Pontevedra Estuary is Marín, famous for the Naval Military School. Other places of interest, and also boasting excellent beaches, are Combarro, Sanxenxo and Portonovo; so too, the Ons Isles, which close the estuary and form part of the Galician National Park. The Arousa Estuary leads to Villagarcia de Arousa, O Grove and the island of A Toxa, which boasts one of Galicia's most impressive spas. Visitors to Cambados can stay at its parador, housed in the former Pazo de Batán country house dating back to the 17th century. Towards the south of the province, almost on the Portuguese border, the itinerary continues with the Monte Aloia Nature Reserve, which contains highly interesting archaeological remains; the historic city of Tui, the point of entry into Spain for the Northern Road of the "ruta jacobea" pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, where the parador is situated amidst mountains and rivers; and A Guarda at the mouth of the river Mińo, where the hill-fort of the Monte Santa Tegra is a worthwhile visit. All of these places offer the opportunity to sample the delicious cuisine that Galician tradition has preserved and that is now exploited by the most innovative chefs. The Rías Baixas provide hake, turbot and sea bass, not to mention a whole range of shellfish including goose barnacles, oysters, clams, mussels and cockles. These raw materials are served in stews and pies, on their own or combined with other flavours and textures. Veal and Galician potatoes, known as "cachelos", both have Label Guarantee status and are used in the tastiest of dishes. Wines with the Rías Baixas Label Guarantee make an excellent accompaniment to any of these dishes. Local cuisine sampling can be rounded off by a slice of Santiago cake (an almond-based sponge) and a "queimada", a traditional beverage obtained by flaming the local eau-de-vie.

Funchal city is the capital and owes its name to the plant called "funcho". This plant existed in abundance in this area. Sweets are still made from this plant today. The category of city was granted by King Manuel I, on 21 August, 1508. It's a city of white rows of houses that climb up the hills, like an amphitheatre around a beautiful bay of blue sea. This architectonic distribution, due to the region's rugged and high terrain, covers itself with special beauty to bring in the New Year, since it makes it possible to put on a fireworks display of rare beauty and present a unique festive illumination for the season. Funchal's port is the entry door for many cruise ships as well as for the loading and unloading of goods shipped by sea. The city is divided into three principal areas: on the west side, we have the tourist area where we find most of the hotels; on the east side, the so-called "Zona Velha" or "Cidade Velha" (Old Zone or Old Town), where old constructions predominate, some of them having been transformed into typical restaurants; and the central part, where a great part of the commerce and characteristic monuments are found.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a port city on the island of Tenerife, in Spain’s Canary Islands. Well-preserved buildings in its old town include the colonial Church of the Immaculate Conception. The 1700s Palacio de Carta has baroque and neoclassical features. In the Old Civil Hospital, the Museum of Nature and Man has interactive displays on the islands. The city’s squares include the central Plaza de España.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with its 400,000 inhabitants is a vibrant modern city which also has a contrasting historical centre with lovely old buildings and a well-developed tourist infrastructure to accommodate the most demanding visitor. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has always been an important junction and commercial centre on the routes between Europe, Africa and America. This international vocation has made it the ideal spot for holding meetings both at national and international level. With good communications by air and sea and 20 kilometers away from the city, its airport has daily links to the main cities in Europe and America. The city's endowment of cultural and leisure activities and the possibility to attend exhibitions, lectures, theatre and concerts all the year round, provide a further incentive to choose this city, giving whatever event may be organised here even greater guarantee of success. It is worth noting that according to the North American Travel Association journal, the capital of Gran Canaria has the best climate in the world, with an annual average temperature of 23ºC making possible the bath in its beaches at any time of the year.

Arrecife was once just a port - that of Teguise. There were two main fortresses, San Gabriel and San José with a third - Castillo de San Gabriel - located on a small island in front of Arrecife. The third fort was connected to the main one by a drawbridge. It was from these forts that the islanders tried (unsucessfully in the end) to defend themselves against pirate attacks. A fourth castle, that of Castillo de San Juan, is home to the city's Museum of Contemporary Art. One of the museum's main attractions is the work of Cesar Manrique. Today, Arrecife is the island's capital. Of the 90,000 residents on Lanzarote, half reside in Arrecife. Along the beach-front there's a wide, palm-lined promenade. The wide, main street through the city is Léon y Castillo and most of the remaining streets of the city are narrow and form part of the one-way system. The Gran Hotel in Arrecife is the only high-rise building on the island. Since its construction, laws have been passed preventing any further high rises and the hotel itself, closed down and currently unused. Leon y Castillo is the main shopping street and as you walk along away from the seafront, head to the right as you come to the end of this street and enjoy the view over El Charco. Here's a strange tip for you; if you're down by the fishing docks when the fisherman return (bearing in mind they can often be out for up to three weeks at a time) and have a plastic bag with you, the generous fisherman are known for giving away samples of their sardine catch. Barbecued sardines are a local favourate.

Lisbon is Portugal’s hilly, coastal capital city. From imposing São Jorge Castle, the view encompasses the old city’s pastel-colored buildings, Tagus Estuary and Ponte 25 de Abril suspension bridge. Nearby, the National Azulejo Museum displays 5 centuries of decorative ceramic tiles. Just outside Lisbon is a string of Atlantic beaches, from Cascais to Estoril.

100 cruise passengers injured, some "flung to the floor" and "holding on for dear life" as ship hits fierce storm on way to U.K.

By Emily Mae Czachor

November 9, 2023 / 10:55 AM EST / CBS News

About 100 cruise ship passengers were injured last week when a fierce storm — which had cut short their scheduled trip around the Canary Islands — ended up hitting the ship in the Bay of Biscay as it routed back to the United Kingdom. Five passengers needed treatment in onboard medical facilities for more serious injuries, while the rest were described as minor.

Nigel Banks, the CEO of British company Saga Cruises, said Spirit of Discovery had safely returned to the U.K. and all passengers had disembarked in a statement to CBS News on Thursday.

"We have apologised to all our guests who experienced such difficult weather conditions; we know that this was a very distressing experience for them," Banks said in the statement.

Spirit of Discovery was carrying roughly 1,000 passengers on a two-week journey from Portsmouth, in southern England, through the Canary Islands off the western coast of Spain. The 14-night  "Canary Island Quintet" cruise , operated by Saga Cruises, left from Portsmouth on Oct. 24 and completed the first nine days of its prepared itinerary before beginning to confront a bout of bad weather.

Conditions prompted the ship's captain to cancel their next planned stop in Las Palmas, where they were due to travel from the capital of Fuerteventura, another place in the Canary Islands, on Nov. 2. Instead, Spirit of Discovery changed directions to route toward the northwestern tip of mainland Spain, where the captain intended to dock the ship at La Coruña.

But while en route to the Spanish seaside town on the edge of the Bay of Biscay, the captain received word that the port at La Coruña would be closed because of bad weather. Hoping to stay ahead of the storm, the captain decided to start routing Spirit of Discovery back to the U.K. earlier than originally planned.

saga-cruises-spirit-of-discovery.jpg

Spirit of Discovery encountered massive, tumultuous waves while crossing the Bay of Biscay, a body of water bordering Span and France that is known at times for especially turbulent currents. While crossing the bay, the ship's propulsion safety system activated and caused it to jerk suddenly to one direction, which essentially brought the vessel to a halt.

A social media user on X said their parents were passengers on Spirit of Discovery during the cruise.

"My elderly parents on board the Saga Spirit of Discovery and have also had a horrendous time in the storm, including getting flung to the floor in the dining room with tables and crockery falling on them," the post read , adding, "Why did the captain rush from the Canaries into the storm?"

One passenger, Alan Grisedale, filmed the enormous waves that rocked Spirit of Discovery in the Bay of Biscay and shared the footage with BBC News . Grisedale said the force against the ship was so great that his wife was knocked over, and furniture was pushed around inside their cabin, the BBC reported . Another passenger on the ship recalled in comments to the BBC that "tables were flying" and waves were "throwing people around all up and down the place."

Jan Bendall, a 75-year-old passenger who had taken the cruise with her husband, told the BBC that Spirit of Discovery remained stationary in the Bay of Biscay for about 15 hours while "caught in the middle of the storm." Bendall said that she and her husband were "holding on for dear life."

Banks, the cruise line's CEO, said the crew did "everything we could" to keep passengers safe.

"We operate to the highest health and safety protocols and every decision was made based on advice from the ship's Master and forecasts from our dedicated marine meteorologists," Banks said in his statement. "We did everything we could at all times to keep our guests as safe as possible and to support them through the storm, including expert medical attention for those injured. I want to thank our guests for their patience and understanding and all our crew, who went over and above to care for everyone onboard."

Canary Islands Cruises For The Perfect Getaway

The highlights of Canary Islands cruises are mostly found within nature and the gorgeous landscape of the island. You’ll also find local culture, too, whether in the pretty port cities or farther inland.

National Parks

The Canary Islands are home to exquisite national parks rich in flora and fauna. You’ll find a varied terrain that changes from park to park, from the majestic beauty of Tenerife’s Teide National Park, to the barren volcanic landscape of Timanfaya National Park in Lanzarote.

You are on island time after all when you experience one of our cruises to the Canary Islands, so use some of your time in port to lounge on one the Canary Island’s exotic white and black sand beaches. Enjoy aqua bays framed by bright green palm trees and cliffs of volcanic rock.

The Canary Islands’ geographic makeup consists of hundreds of volcanoes. Experiencing these volcanoes and the impact they’ve had on the land – whether from a lookout point, up close on a crater drive, or from above on a helicopter tour – is a highlight of Canary Islands cruises.

Arts and Cuisine

You’ll find an emphasis on cuisine and the arts in the Canary Islands. In Lanzarote, see the architecture and sculptures of César Manrique, who is credited with helping to put Canary Islands tourism on the map. In Tenerife, visit one of its many restaurants to try the local specialty of roasted potatoes with mojo sauce.

Canary Islands Cruise Ports

The islands of Lanzarote, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria create a triangle of exciting ports to visit during Canary Islands cruises. Discover the bustling port cities located in these islands and escape to the stark natural beauty around the islands. Plus, cruises to the Canary Islands give you the chance to do so in combination with visiting other popular European cruise ports.

Gran Canaria

Popular Shore Excursions in the Canary Islands

The shore excursions you can do during Canary Islands cruises will give you a wonderful introduction to the culture and landscape of the region while providing in-depth experiences to learn more about the islands.

Volcanic Sites

Experience the Canary Island’s vast volcanoes on a shore excursion. Walk through a lava tunnel in Lanzarote. Marvel at Mount Teide, the highest point in the Canary Islands, from Teide Observatory, which is also an astronomy center.

Culinary and Wine Excursions

Sample the Canary Island’s best cuisine on Canary Islands cruise excursions. From vegetable heavy dishes to fresh seafood, you’ll delight in the rich, exotic flavors of the Canary Islands’ cuisine. Those flavors extend to the wine, and tasting some in local wineries is another tasty excursion.

Outdoor Adventures

There is no shortage of outdoor activities in the Canary Islands, and a Canary Islands shore excursion can help you experience one. Go swimming or snorkeling off of one of the Canary Island’s exquisite beaches. Hike along craters and lava gorges. Zip down water slides at Siam Park.

Helpful Tips Before You Go

You’ll find most Canary Islands cruises occur during the autumn months, with most departing in October and November.

The Canary Islands are also popular stops on Transatlantic cruises and make for a blissful day in port before or after making the journey across the Atlantic Ocean. Transatlantic cruises usually occur in April or November.

The itinerary lengths vary from ten days to sixteen days, providing a long and restful vacation with some island adventure mixed in. Depending on the itinerary, you may only visit Tenerife, though some – like the ones aptly titled Canary Islands Cruise – include all three of our Canary Islands ports of call.

Some of these itineraries are on two of our new Edge-class ships: Celebrity Edge® and Celebrity Apex®.

The Canary Islands have a climate that varies between tropical and arid depending on where you are exploring, so pack accordingly with clothes suitable for warm weather that will dry quickly in the event of a tropical rain shower. You’ll want to stick in bathing suits for the beaches and water sports, action appropriate clothes for hiking, and sunhats and sunglasses to see all those gorgeous Canary Islands sights without having to squint through the lovely sunshine.
