All tours are fully escorted throughout. We are a UK company and all tours start and end in the UK, including a free campsite the night before travel.

All tour prices are for a motorhome and two people. The price quoted is the price you pay.

We offer escorted motorhome tours to selected destinations in Europe. Travel with us to the most picturesque parts of Europe and experience an unforgettable European dream holiday. We will see to it that you can enjoy beautiful cities and stunning countryside and even take part in particular events, worry free and without the effort of any planning.

Our escorted tours combine the freedom of a motorhome holiday with the advantages of a planned tour. You will be accompanied from the beginning to the end of the trip by multilingual tour guides who know the region you will be travelling to.

We have always enjoyed the independence of motorhome travel, allowing us to stay on the shores of lakes, on riverbanks, in the mountains, at the coast or in the middle of nowhere, and also at unconventional places like farms, vineyards, harbours or lighthouses. We have loved the flexibility of just going where the mood takes us, but sometimes have regretted not having booked a special event prior to our trip. This is why for you we organize, and book selected highlights well in advance while giving you the freedom and independence to enjoy motorhome travel.

We know our routes and have tried them all. This means we can give you advice every day on the well-known sights, but can also give you tips on not so well known attractions. Many of these hidden gems we know as a result of having lived in Germany, the UK, France and Spain. We not only speak the languages, but also know the countries, the people and their cultures.

With our support and use of the road book we have prepared for you containing lots of suggestions and sightseeing ideas, you have the freedom and independence to choose each day how much or how little you want to do and see.

Audrey & Michael

After almost 30 years in a suit and tie and after hundreds of thousands of frequent flyer miles made on business, we decided it was time for us to choose our own destination and took the decision to turn our hobby into our profession. We want to share our passion for motorhome travel, for foreign cultures and other peoples.

Michael is German and grew up near Frankfurt in Germany. Audrey is English and grew up north of London. We met in 1984 while studying at University in Sheffield. After graduating we first moved to Germany. Michael’s career then took us around the world sparking our interest in travel and other cultures. We lived in France for three years, in Spain for four years and then spent three years in the US. During this time we went on camping holidays with the children travelling at first with a tent and then with a caravan and in the US with rented motorhomes.

We moved back to Germany in 1998 and bought our first motorhome in 2004. Since then we have travelled extensively through many European countries. These include our home countries, the UK and Germany, as well as France, Spain, Italy, Sicily, Luxemburg, Belgium, Holland, Greece, Denmark, Norway, Croatia, Portugal, Poland, Ireland, Austria, and Switzerland.

We can plan the motorhome holiday of your choice to fit in with exactly what you like to do, for example, sightseeing, walking, cycling, golf, hiking, skiing, or relaxing in the sun. You just let us know.

The holidays above are really just a guideline, to give you an idea of what is possible. We can adapt them to suit individual customers. When you are behind the wheel in a motorhome the world is your oyster. Our holidays give you the best experience as they’re all designed specifically with you in mind.

If you’re new to the world of motorhome holidays, hiring one of our luxury motorhomes is an ideal taster to it. This is because you will experience the freedom of a motorhome holiday combined with the reassurance that your holiday is all mapped out and booked for you and we are available at the end of the phone should you need our assistance.

Also, you see so much more than if you choose a ‘normal’ holiday in a hotel. You get to enjoy travelling from place to place yourself rather than relying on an aeroplane. Therefore you don’t only see the places you choose to stay in but everything in between too.

Led by experienced tour leaders, we offer Escorted Motorhome Tours to the dazzling landscapes of Canada, New Zealand and Southern Africa. Embark on a carefully crafted itinerary showcasing each destination's finest highlights. With all arrangements meticulously arranged in advance, your precious time away is dedicated to immersing yourself in the wonders of each day's sightseeing and exploration. Plus, you have the freedom to set your own pace.

Escorted Motorhome Holidays are perfect for those on their first overseas group motorhome holiday or for those who want to benefit from the knowledge, assistance and passion of our local tour hosts . You'll be part of a group of like-minded travellers, however, on the vast majority of days you will still be able to travel independently and make stops along the way wherever you wish.

Your transfers, hotels, campsites, and motorhome are all included so the only real additional costs that you have to allow for are for your food, fuel and any applicable fees such as entry into National Parks.

Your tour hosts follow the same itinerary as you, travelling and staying by your side. They'll also join in on any excursions you have planned. But it's important to remember that our Escorted Tours aren't a 'follow the leader' type tour. You retain the freedom of the road during the day, then convene at your pre-booked campsites with your group and tour hosts each evening.

What is an Escorted Motorhome Tour?

An Escorted Motorhome Tour strikes the perfect balance between a seamlessly pre-arranged experience and the liberation of self-guided exploration, all while being joined by likeminded travellers and local guides who generously impart their profound love and expertise for their homeland.

In short, an escorted motorhome tour allows for a self-guided adventure during the day before convening with like-minded individuals each evening on pre-booked campsites, on arranged excursions and welcome/farewell meals.

Do I have to travel in convoy on an escorted tour? For New Zealand and Canada, the answer is no. On the majority of days, you are free to choose what time you leave, what route you take and the stops you wish to make along the way. There may be the odd exception where there are included excursions or ferries to catch but generally you are free to travel independently.

The only exceptions to this can be on some of our Southern Africa tours where 4x4 motorhomes are used, this is because in certain areas the roads can be challenging (hence the need for a 4x4) and we have a back up vehicle with a mechanic on board that travels at the rear of the group to help you in the event of a puncture or mechanical breakdown.

However, on these challenging Southern African roads, many are gravel which can create an enormous amount of dust so it’s not possible to travel in a close convoy, so there will always be a good distance between you and the vehicle in front. On non-travelling days where you are spending consecutive nights at the same campsite you will be free to explore as you please.

As all of our tour hosts live in the country that you are visiting, they are able to share all of their local knowledge to ensure that you don’t miss a thing and to tell you about some of the hidden secrets that only a local would know.

All of our tour hosts have their own unique style of leading a tour and they are able to offer:-

• Suggestions of interesting places to stop on your journey each day.
• Recommending photo stops.
• Help with organising and booking local excursions.
• Arranging social events on some evenings such as BBQ’s.
• WhatsApp group chats to help keep everyone informed.

• Recommend the best supermarkets and places to shop.
• Should any minor issues with your motorhome arise they are there to assist.
• Assist with locating doctors or dentists should the need arise.

Escorted Tour group sizes

For the majority of our escorted tours there are usually a maximum of 15 motorhomes (30 people per tour) plus the tour hosts.

Pre-booking excursions

We have a huge number of excursions that you can book with us prior to travel and many of them can be found on our excursions page , please contact us for prices and also if there is an excursion that you would like to do that isn’t listed.

The only time we wouldn’t recommend pre-booking an excursion is if it’s weather dependent (e.g., helicopter rides and whale watching cruises) as these can be cancelled at short notice and if you have pre-booked it is likely that you will have to wait until you return home before we can refund you.

Your motorhome will come with everything you need for your trip and to make life easier. They benefit from:

• In-vehicle tablet to help with your trip (New Zealand and Australia only)
• Excess reduction on the insurance
• Express return option when dropping off the motorhome so that you can get on with enjoying your holiday (New Zealand and Australia only)

Everything is arranged for you and pre-booked by us including all campsite and transfers, ferry crossings in and hotels at the start and finish of your tour. Plus, we’ve included some excursions and group meals as well so you can enjoy a complete holiday.

Escorted Motorhome Tours

Our tour concept is unique, and unlike anything else you’ll find out there – meaning you’ll get that one-of-a-kind experience that you have been searching for!

Gallivanting Oz escorted motorhome tours perfectly blend the mix of freedom on the road (we don’t encourage ‘convoy’ driving, however your tour leaders are close at hand), camaraderie of other likeminded travellers, and comfort/security of knowing all the hard work has been done for you and you will not miss a thing. Our tours are unique small group tours, with a maximum of eight motorhomes.

Consistently, the feedback is that our happy travellers cannot believe how much is included with our tours and how much more was seen than if they had travelled on their own.

What is an Escorted Motorhome Tour?

An escorted motorhome tour with Gallivanting Oz will provide you with a great mix of adventure, the outdoors, sightseeing, relaxing, and socialising and are perfect for first-time motorhomes or those more experienced that prefer the camaraderie of group travel.

Our Australian escorted motorhome tours give you the opportunity to see and do as much as you’d like to each day. Our escorted tours are highly organised, yet very relaxed giving you the comfort of knowing you aren’t missing anything without having to do hours upon hours of research; we’ve taken care of that for you!

You will travel in small groups (no more than 8 motorhomes) of like-minded people , and while this is an escorted tour, we do encourage you to explore at your own pace during the day with the support of our tour escorts close at hand. In fact, you’re in complete control of your time and are free to roam and uncover the route in at your own pace with the aid of detailed travel notes, maps, and driving/sightseeing instructions that you can follow for each day of your trip. Your tour leaders run through all the amazing opportunities each evening, helping tailor your day for your own best adventure.

The great thing about our small group tours and the way we successfully operate these, is that there is no waiting around or feeling rushed. When you’re ready to head off in the morning, you go… if you want to stop and get that great picture… you do! You will be comfortable with timings, as you’ll have a suggested start time each day and our friendly tour leaders make sure enough time is allowed for you to make the most of your day to see everything of interest to you.

Of course, we have loads of inclusions and attractions along the way – some of these will be at specific times, like a boat tour for example, and others are more flexible. The great thing about these escorted tours, is that we have included so much, there is no need to be dipping into your pocket all the time for entry fees and the like. The exceptions to this are scenic flights as they aren’t for everyone, and any special interest activities that will only suit a small portion of the group. We like to keep our tour pricing as competitive as possible so the inclusions are what we believe will give you the best and varied look at the route you are travelling.

Every evening the group catch up at the night’s destination and share tales of the days adventure at ‘happy hour’ which could be around the campfire or overlooking a beautiful vista. You’ll find even on the longer days of driving that the tour leaders will have something up their sleeve to keep it fun.

The prices on each of our escorted motorhome tours include a premium motorhome (choice of two or four berth; both with toilet/shower) with the highest level of insurance cover (no large bond!), experienced tour escorts, entrance into all the must-see attractions/boat cruises and activities enroute (not scenic flights), campground costs and a few group meals plus other extras.

Fuel, food (except when we have noted a group meal included), alcohol, items of a personal nature, and if there was any special interest activity not already included, like scenic flights are not covered in the cost. We do have so many wonderful inclusions that many of those on tour will not spend anything extra on sightseeing.

Each year we set off on some of the most iconic routes across Australia including Tasmania, so you’ll have lots of opportunity to pick the one that appeals. You will want but be quick though as our escorted motorhome tours always sell out fast!

Currently we explore the following routes:

Circumnavigate Tasmania with an astonishing array of dramatic coastal and highland scenery interspersed with charming little villages. We’ve got boat cruises, a steam train ride through ancient rainforest, a trip over to Bruny Island, discover the convict heritage and the chance to meet some natives too… wombats, penguins and the famous Tassie devils!

Darwin to Perth

What an experience on this route! National parks, the Kimberley region with its dramatic gorges, the beehive like shaped mountains, Indigenous culture, 4WD day trips, boat tours and scenery unlike any you’ve probably seen before – we’ve got it all! Top it off with long sandy beaches framed by the aqua blue waters of Ningaloo Reef, explore deep red gorges and spectacular wildflowers.

Adelaide to Darwin

Journey through a remarkable cross section of Australia, from the famous Barossa Valley into remote outback, the iconic ‘Red Centre’ up to the tropical ‘Top End’. Boat trips, Aboriginal culture, campfires, quirky characters, vast red open spaces, remote outback pubs and wildlife experiences will all add to making this trip a holiday of a lifetime and unforgettable memories.

Brisbane to Darwin

One of our most popular routes for those particularly those keen to explore the wide-open spaces and amazing skies of the Qld outback. There’s a station visit, campfires and sundowners, min-min lights, dinosaurs, stagecoach rides and pubs in the middle of nowhere. Be amazed by the tropical and lush ‘Top End’ with its dramatic red gorges, waterfalls and thermal springs.

Perth to Adelaide

Drive the dramatic coastline with the crystal blue waters lapping at the squeaky white sand to world famous wine regions. Cross the mighty Nullarbor, visit a working gold mine, discover ancient caves, experience Aboriginal culture and stay on outback stations. For some, the draw of an independent motorhome holiday is the freedom of the open road, the ability to choose when and where to go, how fast and how far to travel, and having the option of changing plans at the drop of a hat. But for others, a guided trip offers all the advantages; so what are the benefits of an escorted motorhome holiday?

Booking – an escorted trip operator will generally book things like ferry tickets, campground pitches, even events and attractions en-route.

Support – if your van breaks down, in a group you've got support (and even if you're not on the road as a group, you'll be in contact), and on some of the more challenging trips dedicated support vehicles will be provided.

Information packs – with trip itinerary, relevant road maps, campsite directions etc. will generally be provided.

Concierge – travelling with a tour escort is like having your own concierge on tap; someone who knows the area, what to visit, where to hike, the best beaches or what local festivals are on.

Language – often they'll speak the local language too, saves you struggling with your schoolboy/girl French.

Social – many escorted tour operators arrange social activities for the group, it could be cycle rides or walks, visits to local vineyards, local meals out or BBQs in ...

Special places to stay – and they'll know the best places to park up for the night, could be a really scenic campsite or might be a local vineyard, or a special gastro pub.

Themed tours – could be flowers and gardens, might be a special festival, perhaps its a safari or wildlife trip, or even the European Christmas markets.

Worried about travelling with a group?

Escorted tours might suggest nose-to-tail convoys, but that's not generally the way it's done. On most escorted RV, motorhome or campervan holidays, particularly those in Europe and other well developed areas, you'll have the option of following the route at your own pace; joining the group at the day's destinations or campgrounds. This gives motorhomers the advantages of independence and autonomy for the journey part of the trip and the organisational and social advantages of a group once they've arrived. Guided motorhome tours in challenging and remote areas

Escorted motorhome and camper-van tours in challenging and remote destinations, such as Morocco, Mexico, Central America, Alaska or the Australian outback, are more often run as convoys or caravans. This makes sense in areas where a vehicle breakdown could cause difficulties, indeed in some cases dedicated support vehicles are provided, some even offering mobile workshops and mechanics, UHF radios are also often supplied to keep everyone in touch.
