Clutch Announce Fall 2022 Tour with Helmet and Quicksand, Unleash New Song “We Strive for Excellence”: Stream

The stacked North American tour package launches on September 13th

Clutch have announced a Fall 2022 North American tour with support from Helmet and Quicksand . In addition, they’ve shared the new song “We Strive for Excellence,” with the promise of a new album on the way.

The new song had been played live on Clutch’s recent tours and finally sees a proper studio release. Snappy riffs connect frontman Neil Fallon’s verses, which are delivered through his imitable drawl. The lyrics are steeped in nostalgia and call back to Fallon’s days of youth.

“‘We Strive for Excellence’ looks back fondly on childhood summers filled with grand plans gone awry, inexplicable bruises, untreated injuries, and of course, the timeless wisdom of Evel Knievel,” Fallon remarked in a press release.

The track certainly stokes the hype for the aforementioned North American tour. It features an utterly stacked bill including Helmet, Quicksand, and JD Pinkus.

The outing kicks off September 13th in Toronto and will remain stateside thereafter, running through an October 16th show in Chicago. Tickets go on sale Friday, June 17th), with a Live Nation pre-sale occurring one day earlier on June 16th (using code DAZZLE ). Tickets can be purchase via Ticketmaster .

Clutch Announce Dual Tours for 2022 With Stellar Metal Lineups

Clutch are ready to let it rip in 2022. On Tuesday (Jan. 18), they announced back-to-back headlining North American tours for the spring.

As if that weren't enough, the influential Maryland stoner rock band will bring along a different pair of hard-hitting metal and rock acts on each trip.

Joining Clutch on 19 stops across the U.S. and Canada starting in March are sludge metal icons Eyehategod and English rockers Tigercub. Clutch pick up again in late April with an additional 19 North American concerts supported by Texas metal quartet The Sword and singer-songwriter Nate Bergman.

Clutch recently celebrated their 30th anniversary  with the archival " Vault Series " and the livestream concerts  Live From the Doom Saloon . The group's latest album, Book of Bad Decisions , came out in 2018.

Live Review + Gallery: Clutch with Eyehategod and Tigercub at The Observatory in Santa Ana (03/34/2022)

Clutch is on tour right now throughout North American until May 22nd so be sure to check out their show when they come to a city near you! This tour has two different set of openers; Eyehategod with Tigercub through April 10th and The Sword with Nate Bergman until May 22nd. This night at The Observatory in Santa Ana was Clutch’s only stop in California and it was something special.

Tigercub, from Brighton UK, opened the night with some hard hitting riffs as their grunge/hard rock style filled the room. The audience started grooving and became fans of these gents as they progressed through their set with passion and force. Hall, the guitarist and singer, told everyone how stoked they were to be on tour with two amazing artist and that they’re are having the time of their life. Drummer James Allix and bassist Jimi Wheelwright kept the beat going as Jimi told us just how English they really are. Supporting their latest album,  As Blue as Indigo , they have been putting their heart and soul into their live performance and it shows. Be sure to check them out as soon as possible so you’re not missing out.

Eyehategod, from New Orleans, Louisiana, brought the sludge/doom metal to California and the crowd went nuts. Each song played was an opportunity for the mosh pit veterans to showcase what an Eyehategod set is all about. Consisting of drummer Aaron Hill, bassist Gary Mader, guitarist Jimmy Bower, and vocalist Mike Williams, these four popped everyone’s eardrums with their heavy piercing riffs and sheer will to play loud and heavy. Supporting their latest album,  A History of Nomadic Behavior , which was released in March of 2021 and 7 years after their self titled album in 2014, they still have the energy to put on an amazing show and show that they aren’t going anywhere. With some lineup changes throughout their time, this four piece right now is at the top of their game and haven’t sounded better. This band has been through a lot but are still going strong, make sure you check them out when they’re in a city near you, you do not want to miss this set.

Now that the audience was warmed up by Tigercub and Eyehategod, Clutch was about to come out and tear the roof off. Their huge banner at the back of the stage has a skull in an astronaut’s helmet, a perfect fit for the numerous designs these guys have had throughout the years. There was a lot of people wearing Clutch’s latest tour merch that they just bought so you could tell that Clutch’s fans were die hard and stoked that they were back. Clutch have been busy even with the world shutting down for a couple of years. They had 4 Doom Saloon shows that they live streamed and each with a vastly different setlist with fan involvement. There is no down time for these guys and they keep showing us why they’ve been around for the past 30 years.

This 38 date run is Clutch’s first full outing since 2019 and they show us what they’ve been missing for the last couple of years. Clutch’s catalog goes very deep and they’re able to play songs from their 12 studio albums every night without playing the same set twice. It’s always fun to be surprised with what songs you’ll be hearing at a rock show instead of the same set night after night, which Clutch could do but choose to switch it up and keep it interesting. On this night they played a powerful 20 song set and the only thing that would have been better is if they played longer.

The pure talent that these four dudes have is second to none and the passion they play with shows through their amazing performances. Animated as always, singer Neil Fallon doesn’t disappoint with his unique expressions and powerful presence. His lyrics flow perfectly with the sound of their bluesy funky hard rock style that is their own.

Opening the night with “Prison Planet” and going into “Impetus” was a perfect start for this set, two classics that still hit today as hard as they did in the early 90s. Tim Sult on the guitar makes it look so easy but you know that it takes a lot of skill to play and remember all these songs by heart. Rocking back and forth while strumming his guitar with perfection, Tim always delivers that studio sound at the live shows and never misses a beat. Dan Maines on bass pushing that low end like no other and smiling having a blast while also making it look easy. Jean-Paul Gaster on drums is a sight to see as he is calculating the beats and time signatures in his head. It sometimes looks like he’s talking to his drums as he plays but he’s just making sure that he plays with perfection and grace. These guys love what they do and it shows.

Playing hits from albums  Blast Tyrant ,  Robot Hive/Exodus ,  Psychic Warfare , and  Pure Rock Fury , these guys jammed through their songs and the packed venue went wild. People singing every word of every song while grooving to the music is what it’s all about and every single person in the venue was having a blast. As Neil was telling the audience about a new album that they made this past year, and which will be out by years end, he announced that they would play a brand new one for us entitled “Boss Metal Zone”. As true to their sounds, this song was an instant hit with the crowd and everyone could tell that Clutch hasn’t stopped making great music. They performed a number of tracks from their fist couple albums including “Rats”, “7 Jam”, and “A Shogun Named Marcus”, these were definitely highlights of the night. Ending the night with a 3 song encore they played “Pure Rock Fury” with the crowd moshing it up and taking it all in.

This was the only California stop that Clutch played and if you missed out then you’ll just have to wait until their next tour, which hopefully will be when their new album comes out later this year. Clutch have a few festival dates they’re playing so go check them out if they’re in a city near you. Clutch always puts on an amazing show and Santa Ana was lucky enough to witness these rock n’ roll legends in such a small venue that was packed to max.

CLUTCH recently completed recording its new album for a tentative early 2022 release.

Early last year, CLUTCH drummer Jean-Paul Gaster told the Chicago-based webzine Metal Kaoz that he and his bandmates had "written a lot of songs" for the follow-up to 2018's "Book Of Bad Decisions" LP. He said: "We've been writing now for our new album, and I think we're spending more time than ever in the studio, just trying out different ideas. And most of the ideas don't ever really make it to the end; we try 10 things and we keep one.

"I think we are even more selective than we were before as to which ideas we really decide to focus on. And I think it is because we have so much more time. Before, we would come home for a tour and maybe we would have three weeks off. So, the first week, we don't do really much of anything — everybody goes back home to their families and we rest — and then the next two weeks we would get together and we would just jam really hard and get a bunch of ideas, and then on the road and play those ideas, and then come back and do it again. And that process might go on for a year and a half. This has been different. This is the first time where we've had so much time at home to work on ideas and never really tried them in a live setting. So I'm not sure how it's gonna impact the record. But I think it's gonna make for a different album — whether it's good, bad or otherwise, it's too early to tell. But, for sure, it's a different dynamic, and it requires more of us.

"So often, when we have new ideas and we put them in front of an audience, you can really tell right away — we know right away if the song is the right tempo, we know right away if the riffs are where they need to be, if the chorus is the way it needs to be," Gaster added. "It's a testing ground. And we don't have that right now. So, for that reason, I think we are being a lot more careful about what ideas we really wanna focus on, and which ones we think, 'You know what? We've done that before. Let's do something a little different.'"

"Book Of Bad Decisions" was recorded at Sputnik Sound studio in Nashville, Tennessee with producer Vance Powell . The record sold 26,000 copies in America during its first week of availability, giving the group its third consecutive Top 20 album on the Billboard 200.

CLUTCH announce 2023 "No Stars Above" North American tour

Clutch will be spreading their signature pure rock fury around North American on a newly announced spring run dubbed the "No Stars Above" tour. The trek — in support of Neil Fallon and Co.'s excellent 2022 album, Sunrise on Slaughter Beach — will feature support from Nate Bergman and Amigo the Devil. It's set to kick off on April 11th in Norfolk, Virginia and wrap on May 18th in Sayreville, New Jersey.

Clutch is my favorite stoner rock band. They never disappoint. It was great to see them as the headliner as they played stuff that I haven't heard them play before when they were the support group. The only issue was a group of ten or twelve people who felt that half of the hall was for them only and slammed dance or just were general assholes. I mean slam dancing for Clutch makes no sense.

I love Clutch and you can tell that they love their fans and love is returned. Please come to the Bay Area as often as possible.

Well last night show was one of the best I've seen in a very long time, it's nice to actually see a showman like Zack Wylde perform and melt your face off as my buddy Daniel would say. He showed us how it was done last night, even got an up close (meaning he was standing 3' from us) solo from the crowd during Warpigs.

Then Clutch comes like the powerhouse that they are and blew the roof off the place. Total energy from start to finish.

But I will not forget to mention Kyng either, a great band from the LA metal scene. Opened the show in fine fashion with some heavy riffs, phenomenal vocals, and a true sense of how to get a crowd going. If you have a chance to catch this tour, I HIGHLY recommend you do!!!!!

The show opened with The Wexford School of Rock kids who were fantastic. They covered 4 or 5 popular metal songs including one of Clutch's in which Neil Fallon came out to help them sing.

Next came Kyng, a metal band out of L.A.. I was not familiar with the band, but they were clearly a very tight 3 piece. Their music was good and sound.

Zakk Wylde's cover band, Zakk Sabbath, followed up Kyng. If you enjoy Sabbath, and I love Sabbath, then you should definitely see this group before they return to their normal jobs.

If you've never seen Clutch. This is one of the great acts of this generation, both studio and live. Their music appeals to all types of rock and metal fans, and it is all well comprised. I've seen them twice and I will see them every time they come around.
