Sat Tal : Sat Tal is a cluster of mysteriously interconnected seven freshwater lakes situated 12kms away from Bhim Tal. Located at an altitude of 1370mts above sea level, the group of lakes is set amidst dense forests of oak and pine trees. These lakes are a paradise for migratory birds as they stay for some time here during their migration. Sattal is one of the few unspoiled and unpolluted freshwater biomes of India and is often compared with Westmoreland of England by the British. The names of the seven lakes of Sattal are Purna Tal, Ram Tal, Sita tal, Laxman Tal, Nal Damyanti Tal, Sukh Tal , and Garud Tal.

Naukuchia Tal: The name literally suggests Nine-Cornered Lake. Situated 19kms from Bhimtal, Naukuchia Tal is set at an altitude of 1,220mts above the sea level. The lake is around 1 km in length, 0.6 km in width and approximately 40m in depth. making it the deepest of the lakes in the greater Naintal area. According to a local legend, if one manages to have a glimpse of all nine corners at once, he/she will disappear into a cloud of smoke. The Butterfly Research Centre is located on a hillock near the Bhimtal lake and houses the fourth largest butterfly and moth reference collection in India. The collection is housed in a 150-year-old colonial bungalow in the Jones Estate.Of the approximately 1,300 species of butterflies to be found in India (mostly concentrated in the northeastern states), Bhimtal has around 240 species.

Perfect Trip

We had an unbelievable time in Uttarakhand this winter. Allseasonsz travel agency provided us with excellent hotels, located in the center of the cities, comfortable, and close to the main sights and trendy restaurants. The guides and drivers for our private tours were phenomenal - very knowledgable and well spoken. We have a family of 6, so they arranged transportation for us in a private van, which was beyond convenient! Lastly, they added stops to our itinerary, that I myself would not have chosen. But those spots ended up being some of our favorite places to see! Our travel agency was also extremely flexible in working with us - they respected our desire to have some downtime with the family, as well as making reservations for us at wonderful restaurants!
