2021 Hero World Challenge final results: Prize money payout, leaderboard and how much each golfer won

pga tour hero world challenge leaderboard

The 2021 Hero World Challenge final leaderboard is headed by winner Viktor Hovland , who earned the unofficial PGA Tour win with a victory at Albany Golf Club in the Bahamas.

Hovland came back from six shots down of 54-hole leader Collin Morikawa on Sunday, shooting 6-under 66 to win by a shot over Scottie Scheffler on 18-under 270.

Morikawa, who was five ahead going into the final round, couldn't find his game in the last day. He closed with 76 to tumble into a tie for fifth place.

Hovland won the $1,000,000 winner's share of the $3,500,000 purse.

Hero World Challenge recap notes

Hovland earned 48 Official World Golf Ranking points with the win in the 72-hole stroke-play championship, which will boost his world ranking.

Hovland did not earn FedEx Cup points with the win, which comes after his third PGA Tour win in his latest start in Mexico.

A total of 20 players finished the tournament in the first event of the 2021-2022 PGA Tour challenge series.

The 2021-2022 PGA Tour schedule continues in January with the Sentry Tournament of Champions.

Young Tour Stars Lead the Chevron Championship After 36 Holes

Grad update heading into the weekend at the chevron championship.

  • chevron-championship
  • Tournament News

Atthaya Thitikul

LPGA Tour rookie Jin Hee Im and 21-year-old Thai star Atthaya Thitikul share the 36-hole lead (-8) at The Chevron Championship after both shot 69-67 through the first two days at The Club at Carlton Woods. Heading into the second round, the two were T5 and three strokes out of Lauren Coughlin’s first-round lead before a bogey-free day from Im and a six-birdie, one-bogey round for Thitikul put the young players on top of the leaderboard heading into Moving Day.

Im is making her first-ever start in a major championship this week in The Woodlands and is now holding her first-ever lead or co-lead on the LPGA Tour. The 25-year-old earned Tour status for the 2024 season after finishing T17 at LPGA Q-Series in December. But even though she is a rookie, the Korean player has plenty of experience winning professional golf tournaments. Im is a six-time winner on the KLPGA Tour, earning four of those wins just last season.

“Everything was good last year (on the KLPGA), and I know the courses pretty well.  I played there five years,” said Im on her success in 2023. When asked why she chose to enter Q-Series to test her skill on the LPGA Tour, she said, “In KLPGA they retire a little bit earlier than --the players, they retire a little bit earlier than the LPGA, so I tried to play more in here. I want the challenge (of) more big tour. That's why I tried LPGA.”

So far this season, Im has played in just three events on Tour with a season-best finish of T27 at the FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship. While that may seem like too few starts, Thitikul has even less in 2024. The 2022 Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year is making her first appearance of the season here at The Chevron Championship, having recently recovered from a thumb injury that began a few weeks after the 2023 CME Group Tour Championship and was resolved just three weeks ago, according to Thitikul. Leaning on good memories from her T4 finish in last year’s playing of the major, Thitikul made up for lost time and made sure to appreciate the opportunity to compete on Tour.

“I think the rest now like is just a bonus for me. I mean, coming here this week I think making the cut is -- it's good enough because, you know, I wasn't be out here for so long,” she said. “Starting my season with major week is -- it's not that easy, so I think from now on it's just a bonus for me.  Just go out there, staying positive, and then also being out there smiling and then just do my best.”

Im was one of five players to go bogey-free on Friday, making birdie on three of the four par-5s (Nos. 4, 8 and 13) and carding two more on 6 and 17. Thitikul went out in 33 thanks to birdies on 5, 7 and 8, and then went birdie-bogey-birdie on 13, 14 and 15. She finished with a birdie on the par-5 18th to take the second 36-hole lead or co-lead of her Tour career. The last time she led after 36 holes, she won the 2022 Walmart NW Arkansas Championship.

Four-time 2024 Tour winner Nelly Korda sits one stroke back of Thitikul and Im at -7. She shot a second-round 69 on Friday and is one of just three players to post two rounds in 60s this week, along with the leaders. Korda is coming off her third-straight LPGA Tour victory and fourth in consecutive starts on Tour. With a win this week, she will tie Annika Sorenstam’s and Nancy Lopez’s record for most wins in consecutive starts on the LPGA Tour.  Although she is looking to add her name into the history books, Korda recognized there’s still a lot of golf left to play.

“I'm just at the halfway point right now. The amount of golf that I've played, I still have that to go,” said Korda when asked how she is handling the pressure of her historic run. “There is still a lot of golf left and anything can happen. Just going to stick to my process and ‘vibe with it,’ is what my coach says.”

Last season’s Rolex Rookie of the Year, Hae Ran Ryu, sits in solo fourth at -6. First-round leader Lauren Coughlin couldn’t find her opening-round rhythm but remains in the top-5 after a shooting a 1-over 73 on Friday. She shares the T5 spot with four other players including Sweden’s Maja Stark, Japan’s Minami Katsu, Korea’s Shinsil Bang, and Weiwei Zhang of the Republic of China. Sponsor exemption and the 2024 Augusta National Women’s Open champion Lottie Woad sits in a tie for 10th with seven other players at -4.

Seventy-three players made the cut at +2 following Friday’s round. Notables to miss the cut are past champions Patty Tavatanakit (2021), Jin Young Ko (2019), Pernilla Lindberg (2018), Lexi Thompson (2014), Stacy Lewis (2011), Yani Tseng (2010) and So Yeon Ryu (2017), who announced her retirement from the LPGA Tour following The Chevron Championship.

“I wanted to make sure this week is like celebrate week, not sad week. It's been very touching. Like a lot of people just came up to me and then congrats me and then give all the warm word to me. I just feel very blessed. You cannot really have this feeling often. Maybe this is my first and last. So I really tried my best to enjoy like all the thing. Even out there I tried to enjoyed having a thrill tee shot, tough chip shot, the nervousness when I had a birdie putt kind of stuff,” said Ryu. “I think I'm very satisfied with my week.”

Collin morikawa might be back, scottie scheffler won't go away and more from friday at rbc heritage 2024, share this article.

pga tour hero world challenge leaderboard

The fifth signature event of the 2024 PGA Tour season is headed to the weekend as all 69 players who teed it up Thursday will play the final two days at the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Harbour Town Golf Links has given up some low scores through two days, with four players tied for the lead at 11 under — Collin Morikawa, J.T. Poston, Tom Hoge and Sepp Straka. In all, there are 11 players at or within three shots of the lead.

Moving Day is sure to bring some fireworks.

To no one’s surprise, world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is back in the mix — but we’ll dive into his round in just a minute.

Rory McIlroy is at 7 under, four back of the lead, and is starting to find his swing a bit. He kept the bogeys off the card Friday, signing for a 3-under 68. Defending champion Matt Fitzpatrick is 6 under through 36 holes and has a chance to do something special over the weekend to claim another Tartan Jacket.

If you missed any of Friday’s action, no worries, we have you covered. Here’s everything you need to know from the second round of the RBC Heritage.

Scottie Scheffler just won't go away

pga tour hero world challenge leaderboard

Scheffler won the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He won the Players Championship. He missed a five-footer to force a playoff at the Houston Open. He won the Masters.

Those are the results of his last four starts. You’d think he’d be outta gas, especially after a mentally and physically taxing week at Augusta National that ended with his second Green Jacket.

Nope. Not even a little. He’s right back in the mix.

After opening with a 2-under 69 on Thursday, Scheffler posted a 6-under 65 on Day 2 and is three shots back of the lead pack heading into the weekend — something that should scare everyone at the top of the leaderboard.

Can he really win again?

Yeah, he can — and he probably will.

Is Collin Morikawa … back?

pga tour hero world challenge leaderboard

Since becoming the Champion Golfer of the Year in 2021, Morikawa has just one PGA Tour win (2023 Zozo Championship). His game hasn’t been the same over the last few years, at one point even losing his patented cut shot shape.

But it sure looks like he’s found his game.

After a great week at the Masters where he tied for third alongside Max Homa, Morikawa sits 11 under through two rounds at Harbour Town and tied for the 36-hole lead.

This golf course sets up perfectly for Morikawa’s marksmanship-style game, so it’s easy to see why he’s played himself into contention in South Carolina.

On Friday, Morikawa posted a bogey-free 5-under 66, one shot worse than his 65 on Thursday.

“I’m not really adding any new pieces,” he said of putting his game back together. “I’ve learned a lot over the past year, year and a half of just golf in general. Even if I didn’t go through this, I think just time you learn a lot. But I know the pieces that I have and the whole puzzle let’s call it, I can play really, really great golf.

“Sometimes you don’t need all those pieces, and today I didn’t have it, but that’s kind of old-school golf. I look back when I first turned pro, today was one of those days, didn’t feel great, didn’t hit it great, whatever, still posted a number and move on to the next couple days.”

Ludvig Aberg is in contention again — shocker!

pga tour hero world challenge leaderboard

When you hit it straight as an arrow and keep bogeys off the card, you’ll most likely find yourself in contention come the weekend.

And that’s exactly what Aberg has done through two rounds of the RBC Heritage.

The young Swede was paired with Ryder Cup teammate Rory McIlroy for the first two days in South Carolina and beat him by three shots.

In all, Aberg has made an eagle, nine birdies and just one bogey through 36 holes and is one back of the lead at 10 under after a bogey-free 5-under 66 on Friday.

He’s first in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee and first in SG: Approach so far this week. Is that any good?

While Aberg has the game to hang with anyone in the world, he’s relying on his looper at golf courses he’s never played as a pro.

“He means a lot. Obviously, he’s been there. He has the experience,” Aberg said of his caddie, Joe Skovron. “He’s seen a lot of things, and he’s seen a lot of these golf courses in different conditions and different winds. That’s going to make it easier for me. It’s going to help us navigate the golf courses a little bit easier.

“But yeah, plus he’s a fun dude to be around, and we’re having a good time.”

Patrick Cantlay is doing it again at Harbour Town

Something about this golf course gets Cantlay going.

In six previous appearances at the RBC Heritage, Cantlay has five top-10 finishes, four top-five finishes including a runner-up to Jordan Spieth in 2022.

So even though Cantlay has just one top 10 this season — T-4 at the Genesis Invitational — it shouldn’t come as a shock to see his name high on the leaderboard in Hilton Head.

He made four birdies on his opening nine holes — Nos. 1, 2, 5 and 9 — making the turn with a 4-under 32. Two birdies coming home helped to offset a bogey at the par-4 12th, and Cantlay (10 under) finished with a 5-under 66.

“I think the design is really good. I think it forces you to really play chess out there and put the golf ball in specific spots,” Cantlay said after his round. “There’s no real advantage to hitting it particularly long, but you do have to control your golf ball.

“I tend to play out of the fairway here a lot, and that makes this place pretty easy.”

Cantlay is hoping to break a nearly two-year winless drought this weekend, with his last victory coming at the 2022 BMW Championship — he also won the Zurich Classic alongside Xander Schauffele that season.

From double bogey to 65

Sepp Straka had a less-than-ideal start to his round Friday. At the par-4 402-yard first, the Austrian’s tee shot went out of bounds and he was forced to peg another. After an underwhelming approach with his fourth, Straka went on to make double-bogey six.

But then he heated up.

Straka made birdie on the very next hole — par-5 second — and added three more to his front-nine card and made the turn with a 2-under 34.

On his homeward nine, Straka made four more birdies on Nos. 10, 12, 16 and 17 to sign for a second-round 6-under 65, one shot better than the 66 he posted on Thursday.

“The driver has been great, and it’s key out here. It’s really tight,” Straka told the media after he signed his card. “You really have to be in control of your driver. Yeah, the putter was hot the last few days, which I haven’t had the last couple months, so it’s nice to finally roll in a few birdie putts.

Straka — who hasn’t posted a top-10 finish this season — last won at the John Deere Classic in 2023.

2024 RBC Heritage leaderboard, scores: J.T. Poston leads with Masters star Ludvig Åberg in hunt after Round 1

Scottie scheffler is also in the mix but sitting six shots back after the first 18 holes on thursday.

RBC Heritage - Round One

In one of the stranger transitions this PGA Tour season, the RBC Heritage started on Thursday just four days after the final round of the Masters. It's a great field in a no-cut, big-money event, which is fun for fans. However, it felt odd to watch golfers play a regular PGA Tour stop so quickly after the first major championship of the year.

So, it was no surprise to see some of the bigger stars struggle a bit and some lesser names rise to the top of the leaderboard. One of those names is J.T. Poston, who shot a round-of-the-day 8-under 63. He's trailed by, well, everybody else in the field at the $20 million event at Hilton Head.

Let's take a look at his round as well as those on the chase going into Round 2 on Friday.

1. J.T. Poston (-8)

Poston was second in the field in putting on Thursday, which is why he's leading. But he also hit it well, which has not been the case. After putting together five top 20s in six starts on the West Coast, Poston has no top 20s in four starts since heading east.

He credited better ball-striking (he was top 15 in that category on Thursday), but also gave a shout out to his wife for allowing him to get a little sleep with their newborn on the road.

"We've got a two-bedroom condo," explained Poston. "My mom is staying with us. We've got her in her little setup. Last night my wife was great; she got up in the middle of the night a couple times when she was ready to eat or being fussy and let me sleep, so maybe we'll keep doing that."

Other contenders

T2. Collin Morikawa, Seamus Power (-6) T4. Austin Eckroat, Mackenzie Hughes, Sahith Theegala, Patrick Rodgers, Ludvig Aberg, Sepp Straka (-5)

Åberg has the look you want to see from a young potential star going into this event off a solo second at the Masters. He's a flusher's flusher, hit 13 of 14 fairways on Thursday with that perfect swing of his and cruised to a 66 with absolutely nothing on or around the greens.

Terrifying stuff.

"My focus shifted right when I got here," said Åberg. "We were trying to make sure that last week was last week and this week was this week. But, yeah, obviously last week is still something I look back on with a smile. But, yeah, my focus is here this week, and hopefully we'll be able to keep up good golf.

"I'd like to think that I'm young and I'll be able to handle it," he added about playing three consecutive weeks. "But, yes, I think I'll crash for a few days next week when I'm not playing. But I'm looking forward to the rest of the week."

Scottie ... again?

Scottie Scheffler has lost to one golfer since March 1 -- that was Stephan Jager at the Houston Open a few weeks ago. He's defeated ... everyone else he's played, including wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Players Championship and, of course, last week's Masters. Could that continue this week? He's off to a decent start at 2 under that included a double bogey.

It's his 36th consecutive round at or under par to start 2024.

"It would have felt better if I got off to a better start," said Scheffler, who made double at the third hole after botching a bunker shot and failing to get up and down. "I tried to give myself a little bit of grace there, but I got pretty frustrated towards the middle of the round because I was playing good, felt like I was hitting good putts and my speed was maybe a touch off.

"I shanked the bunker shot on 3. I shank it a decent amount, but never in competition ... I tried to kind of give myself a little bit of grace there. It clearly was just a mental lapse and I wasn't quite into it yet. Tried to give myself a little bit of time. I had a much better back nine. Hit a lot of really good shots. Hit some nice putts, too. Looking forward to the rest of the week."

Scheffler looked the way anyone would look after winning the Masters: physically and emotionally exhausted.

"I think I was maybe too settled down to start the day. I wasn't quite into the competition. I think maybe it was a bit of fatigue, whatever it was. But I felt like I was still kind of getting adjusted to the golf course."

Scheffler is not in a great position for a fourth win in five starts because of when this tournament lands on the schedule. Beating the best players in the world in a given week is difficult enough as it is. Doing so after the emotional toll of winning a Masters is monumental. If anyone can do it, it's him. But there were definitely some mistakes in there early for Scheffler that we are unaccustomed to seeing.

Those mistakes will be cleaned up eventually, and Scheffler will play his way into the tournament. The question for him after Round 1 is whether falling outside the top 20 after the first day will prohibit him from yet another victory.

2024 RBC Heritage updated odds, picks

Odds via Sportsline consensus

  • Collin Morikawa: 6-1
  • J.T. Poston: 7-1
  • Ludvig Aberg: 7-1
  • Scottie Scheffler: 10-1
  • Rory McIlroy: 11-1
  • Patrick Cantlay: 12-1

I'm in on Åberg getting a victory this week, and I like those 7-1 odds. Which means Scheffler is definitely going to shoot 64 on Friday and surge into the lead. Guys who hit it great and you should keep an eye on include Cameron Young (20-1) and Russell Henley (28-1).
