Michael McIntyre
He Was Awesome ,The Best Had a Wonderful Time He Was Hysterical Great Night In The City Best Theater You Can See From Every Seat Quick Commute From Brooklyn Great Area Overall Great Night Out
We cried twice and one of us peed our pants. That should say enough :) He just need to make a Canadian stop next time. ;)
Michael McIntyre - Great show!
First of all, The Beacon Theater in New York is one of the most interesting theaters in New York! The design is very unique and well preserved. Truly a gem on the Upper West Side. The show itself did not disappoint! I had seen Michael in London years ago and when I saw he was coming to New York, I immediately bought a ticket. His humor is very relatable and really helps you look at everyday events in a different light. His audience work is great and very engaging for all. Only drawback to the show were 2 gals in the row in front if me that clearly had been ‘over served’ and were distracting to those that sat ariund them. Luckily, the most disruptive one left shortly after the intermission one was not let back into the main floor. But overal, The show was great!
What an amazing show Michael McIntyre
After three years, Michael finally came back to NYC. His new comedy tour is "MACNIFICENT”. He did a very solid 1hr and 45 minutes with a 30-minute intermission. His British accent made me fascinated and his language rhythm is so fluent and funny. He covered a wide range of concepts including COVID, his wife, his kids, restaurant experience, dog food etc. They all had good transitions and punch lines. He still stood at the top of the comedy. Hope to see you again!
Michael McIntyre is the best!
Flew down from Toronto to see Michael McIntyre at The Beacon in NYC - the show was amazing! We’ve been trying to see him live for quite some time now, so couldn’t pass up the opportunity. He did not disappoint and I am so glad we made the trip down to catch the show. A lot of the material was very relatable and hubby kept jabbing me going “that’s you!”. If you are lucky enough to get tickets to see him perform, do not pass up the opportunity. Such a fun night!
Michael McIntyre is naturally funny!
My all time favorite comedian. He never fails to make me laugh with his relatable stories. He had the whole audience laughing for the entire show. Can’t wait to see him again.
Michael McIntyre never fails to put on an amazing show! Haven't laughed that hard in years. Best part is it's so relatable! Things that touch each person because we've all had the same experiences! He is so physical and strings all the jokes together so they all connect. Go! It's a great show! I hope he comes to America more often!
Michael was hysterical. Just wish he did more shows in the USA.
Michael and the Beacon theater are a perfect match
Michael was hilarious as ever. He strikes a great balance between being funny and silly while talking about every day problems and frustrations that most of us can relate to. The venue was great, our seats were excellent, and we could see and hear Michael perfectly. The seating was comfortable and getting into the venue was simple and straightforward. I would definitely buy tickets to see Michael again or see other shows at the same venue.
I have waited a long time for Michael to get here. We drove for 4 hours and it was worth every tedious mile. He was AMAZING!! I really think he is the funniest guy around.

Park your cynicism! Michael McIntyre is a super-relatable well-oiled joke machine
The everyman standup delivers substantial comic payloads by itemising the oddity of human behaviour. A successful formula his new tour continues to exploit
A ll the countries of the world have their own bread, runs one of Michael McIntyre’s routines in his new show Macnificent. But what does Britain have? The boring old loaf. And all the countries have their own cheese too, runs the follow-up. And which one is ours? Mild cheddar. That’s we Brits, according to our host: aren’t we all just so lovably, incorrigibly bland?
Well, speak for yourself, you may wish to respond: there are traffic islands that have spent less time than McIntyre in the middle of the road. But resistance is futile – or at least, self-defeating. You can sit there thinking of all the strong cheeses and characterful breads Britain produces, or you can be seduced by McIntyre’s entertaining generalisations (OK, maybe we are bland!) into having as much fun as many, many other people in his audience. Don’t overthink things. Park your cynicism. There’s fun to be had here.
And there has been for a remarkably long time. The 47-year-old screens a montage at the start of his show, of significant gigs since he first stepped on to the Comedy Store stage 24 years ago. It reminded me: this guy has been huge for ages. (He barely seems to have aged either, damn him.) This is a comic who struck, fairly early, on a formula that would yield colossal commercial success, and who has stuck with it since. Reader, let me reassure – or disappoint – you: that formula changes not one jot with Macnificent, McIntyre’s first standup tour since 2018 .
It includes, as ever, fantastic jokes and routines on almost parodically relatable subjects. You want 10 tight minutes on middle-aged wine-drinking? McIntyre is your man. Interested in a riff on yawning? McIntyre is here for you, itemising the oddity of this universal human behaviour, the comedy of failing to suppress it when in conversation, the incongruity of its seeming contagiousness. (“How do you catch tiredness?!”) Not for the first time, you marvel that such an ostensibly banal observation can feel so fresh, and deliver – in McIntyre’s expert hands – such a substantial comic payload.
But it does, as does a fine nugget of physical comedy about McIntyre and wife in the marital bed, regretting the purchase of a mattress that’s firm on one half and soft on the other. And a delightful routine about youth football, casting our host as a concerned dad on the sidelines while his angelic son is aggressed by overdeveloped 15-year-olds with abundant facial hair and testosterone to spare.
What you don’t get is any sense of the real McIntyre, the man behind the joke machine. McIntyre watchers will know he’s suffered a setback in recent months, with the prompt cancellation of the US edition of his gameshow The Wheel . If this is significant to him, if he has dreams of breaking America, how he feels about being a primetime superstar – you’ll find the answers to none of this in his stage act, which casts him as an everyman whose concerns are indistinguishable from yours and mine.
Isn’t that stretching things? The man’s (I’m guessing) a multimillionaire. But part of McIntyre’s genius is how his act neutralises class in this most class-conscious of countries. Most major mass-appeal comics are proudly working class ( Mo Gilligan , John Bishop, Micky Flanagan , Sarah Millican). Those who aren’t – such as Jack Whitehall – have to burlesque their own poshness for popular approval. But McIntyre seldom exaggerates or apologises for his privilege; indeed he rarely affords it the slightest significance. It’s there if you’re looking for it, but rendered irrelevant by the man’s superpower relatability, a personality so democratic as to completely override this or that mention of having a gardener or dining on gnocchi.
And so McIntyre’s Covid experiences, according to Macnificent at least, are the same as all our Covid experiences: cutting his family’s hair, cultivating an Amazon dependency. But even audiences developing an immunity by now to coronavirus comedy (myself among them) will be tickled by McIntyre’s novel take – in which a birthday party for his wife transmogrifies, via a Covid diagnosis for McIntyre himself, into a mortal threat to his whole family.
There are lesser routines in the show. The rude wordplay that ends act one is a bit effortful, and the section on his dieting hacks when on a trip to the US requires a greater measure of contrivance than the best of his work. Sometimes it’s too obvious that McIntyre isn’t just delivering a comedy routine, he’s drilling a new catchphrase for the merch. One of the least convincing gags of the evening, meanwhile, finds our host panicking, on the release of tickets for this tour, that he’s gone out of fashion and no one’s going to come. Give over, Michael! I wouldn’t bet against another 24 years of adulation: Macnificent finds the McIntyre machine as well-oiled as ever.

Michael McIntyre: Macnificent
Review of the comic's first stand-up tour in five years
It’s been a long time since Michael McIntyre perfected his lucrative brand of exaggerated observational comedy. A pre-show video highlights reel tells us it’s been 15 years since that defining ‘man drawer’ routine – as well as highlighting just how little his dependable mainstream shtick has changed over the years. Only a 1999 clip from the Comedy Store, showing him in jeans and T-shirt that really don’t suit him, deviate from the winning formula.
Given that his audience always knows exactly what they will get, Macnificent safely offers more of the same, sometimes to the point of seeming like a self-parody. ‘Eyebrows, what’s all that about then?’ starts one routine.
Meanwhile, the segment about watching his son’s football match draws from exactly the same speech impediment well as his marvellous routine about having an anaesthetised mouth, post-dentist, from 2012’s Showtime. But with added, unsubtle, innuendo.
Relatability is McIntyre’s watchword, of course, and he remains the middle-class Everyman – even with far-from universal experiences such as fretting about whether he might not sell out all the 10,000-seat arenas on this tour, breakfasting at the same LA hotel as supermodels, and employing a devious gardener. But the obvious trappings of his success are tempered by more understandable insecurities about maintaining his dignity when the world – and his own stupidity – conspires against that.
And those stories are outliers. Mostly, his material is built on common ground, from gurgling stomachs to the too-easy tendency to reach for a bottle of wine at home to how yawns are infectious. Although not in his show, as he injects energy into the most trite observation.
All is sold with the big, expressive gestures and the trademark purposeful striding. While sometimes this feels too practised, his physical comedy prowess is proved in a routine in which he lies on the floor recreating his ill-fated amorous advances towards his wife on his expensive yet impractical mattress, half of which is is firm, and half of which is soft.
Act-outs elevate even more mundane routines such as talking ‘about the breads of the world’ – a trite and rather obviously engineered conceit to get him to mimic Mexicans with their tortillas, Frenchmen with their baguettes, and Indians with their naan. No prizes for guessing which accent he doesn’t do.
Also in his favour are the florid descriptions with which he elevates the everyday, for example the term ‘piss-pot’ as a charming variation on ‘pisshead’.
While not being too troubled by having any grand vision, McIntyre does have a couple of underlying themes.
Technology is the less interesting one, as he talks about TikTok algorithms serving up a surfeit of boobs, addictive phone use and step-counting apps. Though his urgent stage pacing surely helps him hit the target every day on tour, this segment ends in a nicely non-PC line about the wearable tech.
He’s also updated the old musical hall gag about a speak-your-weight machine telling an overweight customer ‘one at a time, please’ for 21st Century technology in a self-deprecating bridge to talking about him trying to lose weight.
The other recurring strand is about British reserve, our unadventurous streak – our bread is the boring loaf – and our dislike of confrontation. A cynic might suggest McIntryre is the sliced white Mother’s Pride of comedy, but that would be harsh: the craftsmanship that goes into his work at least elevates him to a supermarket sourdough.
While nothing here will redefine anyone’s worldview, the material is timeless – as indeed is he, looking at least a full decade younger than his 47 years.
One exception is the routine about Covid, something audiences might already be tired of. But as McIntyre points out, given his career is built on talking about shared experiences – and since lockdown happened in the five years since his last tour – it seems germane to speak of it.
Indeed, he does highlight the ridiculous rigamarole of trying to dine out in the earliest days of restrictions being eased in a way that is cliche-free, very funny and strangely nostalgic.
This segment – indeed the whole show – concludes in a delightfully farcical anecdote about the time he caught Covid on his wife’s birthday, culminating in a hilariously humiliating image, brilliantly deflating the smugness of his stage demeanour.
It’s a routine that’s almost worth the ticket price alone, even as some of the other segments feel like going through the motions – albeit with skill and craftsmanship.

The British comedy giant’s ‘MACNIFICENT’ tour will grace the O2 for five nights this month
Whether you find him side-splittingly funny or you think his jokes never land, you gotta give Michael McIntyre some kudos for his absolutely stellar comedy career. He first cropped up as a guest on shows like Mock the Week and Live At The Apollo (I mean, which notable British comic didn’t?) but skyrocketed to fame throughout the late ’00s and was the high-grossing stand-up comedian in the world in 2012.
You’ve probably caught at least a glimpse of one of hMcIntyre’s shows on the telly – think Comedy Roadshow , Michael McIntyre’s Big Show , and his latest venture, The Wheel . By now, he’s pretty comfortable headlining London ’s O2 – after surpassing a record 28 shows at the arena back in 2018, he is now a holder of the keys to the venue alongside the likes of Prince, Take That and One Direction.

Everything you need to know about Michael McIntyre’s MAGNIFICENT tour at AO Arena
Dads, we do hope you kept your tickets in the 'man drawer'.
British comedy legend Michael McIntyre is rolling back into Manchester this weekend for a double bill of his brand-new tour, MAGNIFICENT at the AO Arena.
Still one of the biggest names in UK comedy and always delivering a reliable and largely family-friendly performance (this being a 14+ show), he’s set to pack out the legendary Manc entertainment venue this Friday and Saturday.
Despite being a household name for the best part of two decades now, this latest show is actually his first stand-up tour in five years and has already received pretty solid reviews from the likes of Chorlte , so it’s great to see him back out on the circuit.
With all that in mind, we thought we’d provide those going along to either of his two Manchester shows with all the info you need.
Are there tickets left?
First off, if you’re still looking to grab tickets to see Michael McIntyre at Manchester’s AO Arena , although the Sunday is sold out there are still a fair few tickets left for the Friday, 22 March show.
With the cheapest tickets starting from just £34.50 and the closest seats going all the way up to £147.06, you can pretty much have your pick of the bunch.
As always, if you’re feeling like being a bit posh and treating yourself (you always deserve it, as far as we’re concerned), you can of course spring for the more premium hospitality packages like the Electric Lounge’s Champagne Experience. You can find the full gamut of tickets HERE .
Warm-up act and stage times for Michael McIntyre’s Manchester show
As for stage times, comedy shows at the AO Arena skew slightly earlier than the likes of your live music in Manchester but we can still let you know how long you can expect to be there.
Doors are set to open from 6pm on both nights but the jokes won’t start flying until 8pm, so you’ll have plenty of time to grab a drink, something to eat, nip to the loo etc.
With opening support act Jake Lambert — who has also turned with the likes of industry heavyweights Romesh Ranganathan and Jack Dee — set to take the stage for a 20-minute warm-up set at 8pm, McIntyre isn’t due on until 8:20pm, and his roughly 75-minute set will take you up to 22:10pm, so you should be out well before the venue’s curfew at 11pm.

How to get to the AO Arena and other travel info
The AO Arena is right in the heart of the city centre, so it’s fairly easy to get to.
The AO Arena is located within the Manchester Victoria Station complex in the city centre, on the corner of Trinity Way, Hunts Bank and Great Ducie Street. You can enter through the station (up the stairs), through the Trinity Way Tunnel, or from Hunts Bank.
By tram: Also super straight-forward – hop off the tram at Manchester Victoria and you’re right by the stairs to the venue. It’s also a short walk from Exchange Square and Shudehill. Trams run directly to Victoria Station from Rochdale, Bury, Altrincham, East Didsbury and the Airport.
By train: While Piccadilly is the city’s largest train station, plenty of trains do pass through Manchester Victoria. You can plan your journey through the National Rail website .
Parking: The postcode if you’re driving to the AO Arena is M3 1AR. There’s an on-site CitiPark car park with 958 spaces, which can be pre-booked here . Bear in mind that Trinity Way is closed after concerts to allow gig-goers to leave safely, though cars are allowed out of the car park with directions from staff.
About the AO Arena
The AO Arena has a few strict policies to keep gig-goers safe, so make sure to check entry requirements carefully before you travel.
For example, only one small bag per person is allowed, and bags like backpacks, travel cases and laptop bags are not permitted inside the arena.
All bags are scanned on entry to check for prohibited items like laser pens, flares, projectiles, weapons, drugs and alcohol, and even selfie sticks.

We hope that should be everything you need to know ahead of Michael McIntyre’s two Manchester shows this weekend.
The veteran comic also recently had to postpone a show in Southampton after undergoing surgery at the start of the month, so we’re glad to hear he’s back fit, fighting and funny.
Also, if you’re looking for somewhere for a classy drink and a nice bite to eat, then the brand-new Mezz restaurant is the perfect spot for some pre-gig fun.

So far, April has been full of foodie festivals, cultural celebrations, wholesome spring-themed events, and so much more – and thankfully, there’s more where that came from as there’s loads more in the Greater Manchester social calendar for everyone of all ages to be getting involved with throughout this week too.
If you’re finding it a bit tricky to pick what to do, we’ve chosen a few of the best bits for another edition of our ‘ what’s on ‘ guide.

Bloomtown Blossom Trail
Manchester City Centre
Monday 22 April – onwards
Manchester never looks better than it does when all the blossom trees burst back to life, right? Well now there’s a walking trail through town that shows off the best bits.
From the iconic purple blooms outside the Central Library, to the surprising sprays that pop up in the middle of Ancoats, there are pretty colours appearing all over, so the National Trust is once again shining a spotlight on Manchester and bringing back its new-and-improved Bloomtown Map.
There are 39 spots all over the city centre (and slightly beyond) included along the route, each one showcasing one of the city’s most picturesque locations.

The spoken word is paired with visual pieces painted by self-taught artist Emma Evans, where the words have served as inspiration for the art.

We’re used to it being wet and miserable most of the year, and while we do love Sunday lunch on a sun-soaked afternoon in the beer garden when we get the chance, nothing warms the cockles more on those darker days than a giant plate piled high with roasted meats, vegetables, and gravy.

Michael McIntyre has shared a health update after being forced to cancel a comedy show following an emergency operation.
The British comedian, who was one of the most-watched TV stars over Christmas 2023 , was set to perform at Southhampton’s Mayflower Theatre on Monday (4 March), but had to call it off due to the procedure.
Days after the host of BBC game show The Wheel pulled out of playing Plymouth Pavilions due to “illness”, an announcement informed ticket owners that Monday’s show would be rescheduled.
A statement shared by the comedy star’s team on Sunday (3 March) revealed that McIntyre is currently “unable to perform” after having “an operation to remove kidney stones”.
The announcement read: “We regret to inform customers that Michael McIntyre will be unable to perform on Monday 4 March at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton. Unfortunately, Michael has had an operation to remove kidney stones. The show will be rescheduled to a later date which will be announced shortly.
“Tickets will remain valid for the new date. If you are unable to make the new date you will be entitled to a refund. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
McIntyre’s fans shared well wishes to the comedian, with many who themselves have previously had kidney stones posting particular sympathy for what he must be enduring.
On Thursday (7 March), the comedian’s team issued an update on McIntyre’s health, announcing his return to stage.
“Michael McIntyre has had successful surgery to remove kidney stones and is recovering well,” a post shared on his official social media pages read.
“He has been medically cleared to perform in Nottingham on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and is very excited to get back on stage.”
The forthcoming gigs are part of the comedian’s world tour, which has seen him perform in Australia, New Zealand and the USA.
McIntyre, 48, is one of the BBC’s most-watched TV stars, with his game show The Wheel and entertainment series Michael McIntyre’s Big Show pulling in huge audiences for the corporation.
In 2014, McIntyre made headlines after walking off stage when an audience member in the front row repeatedly used her phone throughout his set.
The frustrated comedian asked security to “sort it out” and promised the audience at Darlington’s Civic Theatre he would be back, before he left the stage.
According to the Northern Echo , staff spoke to the woman and some members of the audience chanted for her to be removed from the venue.
The comedian returned to the stage several minutes later and carried on his act
McIntyre often uses anecdotes about his marriage as part of his stand-up material but, in 2020, the comedian said there was one joke in particular he regrets making . It was about his wife breaking wind in bed.

The who’s pete townshend: ‘i’m not doing a farewell tour’.

LONDON, ENGLAND - JULY 12: Pete Townshend of The Who performs at The O2 Arena on July 12, 2023 in ... [+] London, England. (Photo by Matthew Baker/Getty Images)
Earlier in 2024, The Who’s Pete Townshend thrilled fans when he discussed the possibility of the band going on one final tour. Just a few weeks after putting the idea out there, he’s seemingly taken it back, and there’s now a chance that the group may never tour again.
During a recent appearance on the Sound Up! podcast (via Far Out Magazine ), Townshend updated fans as to the possibility of a tour, and he seemed pretty definite in his comments. “I’m not doing a farewell tour,” the guitarist stated plainly.
This declaration seems to go against comments he made only a few weeks prior–ones that many took at face value and assumed meant a tour was perhaps already in the works. Townshend tried to explain the difference between what he said then and what he’s saying now by adding, “I think I was being sarcastic about it.”
In March, Townshend spoke to the New York Times NYT , and he chatted openly about his thoughts regarding the future of the legendary rock band. “It feels to me like there’s one thing the Who can do, and that’s a final tour where we play every territory in the world and then crawl off to die,” he said. That last line caught the attention of many, as it appears to sound decidedly final.
Some older musicians continue to tour because they love it, and because it’s been such a huge part of their lives. Others, like Townshend, are motivated by simpler things, and those may be what push the band to travel again to perform for sold-out crowds.

“I don’t get much of a buzz from performing with the Who,” Townshend admitted in his New York Times feature. He then shared that, “If I’m really honest, I’ve been touring for the money.” The group must make huge sums on the road with each show, but whether that will be enough to pull the remaining members back to tour is hard to predict.
Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend are the only two members of The Who left at this point. Townshend is 78, and Daltrey is 80, so it’s not shocking that they aren’t as interested in touring as they have been in the past. The band hasn’t released a new album in half a decade, since 2019’s Who dropped.

Ross Chastain 1-on-1: 'I'm not the same person I was last year'
Ross Chastain has emerged as one of NASCAR's up-and-coming stars over the past three seasons driving for Trackhouse Racing.
He has brought the philosophy that the only friends a driver has at the track is the driver's team. He races aggressively — sometimes too aggressively — and has had his share of controversy.
For most of 2024, he has been out of the limelight, although he was involved in a last-lap wreck Sunday at Texas when battling for second and getting turned by William Byron . Whether it was a late block by Chastain or an overly aggressive move by Byron has been the subject of debate.
A couple of days prior to the race at Texas, Chastain talked to FOX Sports about his season, his April 2022 win at Talladega Superspeedway (site of the race this weekend) as well as his recent participation in the Bassmasters Classic Celebrity Pro-Am.
I was curious about your fishing excursion a couple of weeks ago. Are you a fisherman or anything? Or was that totally new when you were with the Bassmasters?
I'll be honest, growing up, dad had a boat. Dad's rule was no fishing poles in the boat. So casual fishing at the farm a little bit, maybe a lake here, a ditch there but nothing like that. No sonar. No proper trolling motor ever before. Logan Parks, who I went with, had to coach me a bit, to be honest.
Was it fun? What did you learn?
It was fun. The front-facing sonar changed the game. I never used that. So the trolling motor, it's scanning under the water. We were fishing in this shallow water with a bunch of trees under the water. So I only lost three lures maybe that I got caught and he had to break off. It was fun. Just being with somebody that does that professionally, ... I didn't completely birdnest the string and it was OK.
What's more difficult: Catching a fish or fuel mileage at Talladega and Daytona?
The fuel mileage is more difficult when I had an expert like Logan coaching me. But I have experts at Trackhouse that coach me as well. We work on it. We worked on it for years, even before I was driving the Trackhouse cars, I was doing fuel mileage stuff, and obviously with the new [Next Gen] car [debuted in 2022], when it was new and when it was on its way into production when we were about to race that — we were trying to figure out what the best way for it was going to be. So I've done many hours of DIL [driver-in-the-loop] simulation to practice that and see what it says. And then we've fact-checked it at the track. We've had a few [races] over the years that we weren't sure if we were going to make it and I ended up having half, two-thirds of an extra lap. So we continue to find that cadence of what is enough, what are our tools telling us? We just had it at Phoenix. Turns out I could have pushed a little harder, maybe finished fifth, but we saved a little extra and finished sixth. So we'll continue to evolve that.
Ross Chastain describes the key element to his April 2022 win at Talladega
What do you remember most about the win at Talladega besides the seas parting a little bit?
For sure. The pivotal moments were speeding on pit road. We left our pit stall after a stop and [Ricky] Stenhouse came out, and he had a really bright-colored car and I thought he was going to drive into my door. I kind of gassed up and went around him and just sped — it was just a mental error that I got spooked by a car. He left me plenty of room. And then they were lapping [ Michael] McDowell and I — and I pulled up into the middle lane to create a disturbance so that I could get the draft so I could pass Michael and be the free pass [for the first car one lap down]. And that was ultimately — if I was behind him, we would have just blended in together and he'd have been the free-pass car. I wanted to be in front of him. I got the draft first and was able to get that and that set us up to be third taking the white flag. And then I had just committed to the bottom. They just came off Turn 4 and they started turning right [into the wall] and Austin Dillon and I just stayed on the bottom and he pushed me to the win.
It seems that this year going into Texas, you're finishing sixth to 14th. Is that where you feel like you guys are?
There's definitely been races, yeah. Yes, that's absolutely spot on somewhere in that range. But there's also been races— Las Vegas comes to mind — that we had a real shot to win. I sped on pit road. I had that string at the beginning of the year where I just couldn't go fast enough on the track, so I tried to go faster on pit road — and sometimes I was even trying to go slow there and just sped. I feel like at Vegas, we had a top-three car, could have raced with the 5 [of Kyle Larson ] and the 45 [of Tyler Reddick ]. And we still finished third — we were on two tires and hanging on. We weren't on offense. We were on defense. From there, sixth to 14th is very accurate for a lot of our raw pace for some of the races this year.
So do you feel good about this year so far? Or are you frustrated?
I feel good. If sixth to 14th is our just getting going and continuing to evolve with another package change that we have on short tracks and other OEMs [manufacturers] have different bodies and we're all learning, I'm good. Obviously, I want more. We are doing the work. We're doing different and what we feel like is more efficient things than we've done the last three years that I've been with this group. Phil Surgen, I've had him as my crew chief since 2021 with CGR [Chip Ganassi Racing] and the 42 car, we transitioned to Trackhouse [when it bought CGR] and the 1, kept most of the group together. I don't want to go to battle with anybody else. This is my group. We're going to be together. And we will continue to figure this out. We came out and won early races in other years, but I like where we're at. I feel the speed and the grip and the cars, if we just get the balance tuned in, we'll be right there.
We're at a Kubota [farm equipment store], but I wanted to ask, what's it like being the beer guy this year, having a as big of a company such as Anheuser-Busch? I am guessing they gave you a list of what you can drink, and what you can't?
We're at Kubota. And this was a conversation at the L.A. Clash in 2022, with Andrew Lukanich, one of our sales guys and he asked my dad and I what do we want and my dad said, "Tractors" and Kubota has been a great partner and just let me be me. And then you look at Busch Light and Anheuser-Busch, ... A-B and the Busch Light brand that they transitioned to [from Budweiser] on the NASCAR side several years ago with Kevin [Harvick], it's just so iconic. But for me personally, I drank Busch Light before they sponsored me. And I'm going to drink it long after they sponsor me and the No. 1 car, so they didn't have to tell me what to drink. I was already drinking it. My buddies and I, we've got pictures and texts in old text threads that have been brought back to life — which is scary sometimes to think about the texts live on this long — but I sent a picture of a Busch Light to Cody Efaw [of] Niece Motorsports in 2019 when the stuff happened at Iowa [when a truck win was taken away after failing tech] and to a group with [crew chief] Phil Gould and sent them a picture of the beer and I was like, "Let's go win again." And we went and won Gateway World Wide Technology [Raceway] the next week. Long before I was ever in Cup, when I was in the Truck Series, I was probably mid-20s. And we were at a bar back home in the offseason and we were drinking it and laughing and the Kevin Harvick banners are hanging on the wall. And they were asking me what would it be like if they sponsor me? And [I said] "I don't know what that would be awesome." And now in that bar, we were back there in December, and now my posters hanging up. It's so cool.
Ross Chastain describes the full circle moment of being sponsored by Busch Light
You've kind of almost flown under the radar, no big brouhaha yet this year. I'm curious, do you have better relationships with drivers or just haven't been in really a position to maybe make anybody mad?
You said, "Yet." Are you trying to manifest it?
Well, I don't know.
No, no better relationships. I mean, I don't go out of my way to do anything. I'm not mean to anybody off the track. On the track, it's questionable sometimes. But, no, nothing different. I learn. I'm not the same person I was last year, the year before or even at Daytona this year. I'm continuing to learn this stuff and be the best NASCAR Cup Series driver I can be. Nothing changed drastically.
I want to say, this say Talladega will be your 197th Cup start — you're close to 200. You have now over 500 starts in the national series.
It started with one. It was one start — I had raced asphalt limited late models and crate late models in South Florida and we just wanted to do basically, what it would cost us to run the whole season, we just wanted to go do one NASCAR truck race and one turned to four more turned into a season with [team owner] Bobby Dotter and we just kept it going somehow. That's wild.
Are those numbers surreal to you?
My first Cup start was coming up for Dover in 2017. And I told the group that was putting it together that I didn't think I was ready, and I didn't want to do it. And they tried to reason with me, and I just got up and left and said, "I don't want to do it. I don't think I'm ready. I'm not gonna do it." And I slept on it that night and went back down to the shop the next day — I realized I better take this opportunity because it might not ever come again. I took those two races at Dover with [owner] Jay Robinson, Premium Motorsports and ended up running the bulk of the next two seasons for him. I guess this is now the start of Year 4 of a competitive Cup car. But what a lot of people don't remember is I had two almost full seasons in last — 29th was good, 27th was a win out of the 36 cars that would show up. If we could stay single-digit laps down, finished 29th or 27th, that was our goal. Attrition [in my] first race out, I finished 20th. It was a super-mega win. It didn't happen ever again except the Daytona 500. But, yeah, I've got a lot of starts in the back, watching Cup races from the back of the pack. And that's not lost on me.
