How to plan and personalize your dining on a Princess cruise

How to plan and personalize your dining on a Princess cruise

CRUISE TIPS: Princess Cruises unveiled Dine  My Way , another flexible MedallionClass enhancement that makes it easy for guests to pre-plan and tailor their dining experiences. It pairs with the revolutionary OceanNow   on demand service to offer onboard dining flexibility and convenience.

Sky Princess Main Dining Room

Dine  My Way  gives guests the freedom to make reservations in onboard dining rooms and specialty restaurants at times they prefer and with whom they wish to dine.

Sky Princess LeMer

Dine  My Way  also helps to optimize capacities in dining rooms and restaurants on board, manage wait times, and gives guests significantly more flexibility.

When making a reservation, guests will be able to:

  • add additional friends or family members with whom they are traveling
  • select their preferred pace of dining (relaxed, quick)
  • indicate their desired seating location (near window, close to entrance) in the Ocean profile
  • share dietary preferences and allergen information
  • pick the same venue and dining time each night

Princess Cruises Regal Princess cruise ship bow

“We believe guests are going to love the control and customization Dine My Way offers,” said  Jan Swartz , Princess Cruises president. “Instead of restricting dining choices during the pandemic, we’ve been able to expand the options for our guests and thanks to the unique, innovative capabilities of the OceanMedallion, reduce wait times and eliminate the need to stand in line.”

In addition, Princess’ OceanNow on-demand menu has been expanded to include entrees and beverage options from restaurants through-out the ship with guest’s requests delivered directly to their location.

OceanNow orders can be made using the MedallionClass app on a smart device, via the stateroom TV, or by having a crew member place the order on the guest’s behalf.

OceanNow will also include many expanded personalization options so you can order your perfect coffee drink, select your favorite steak sauce toppings, or pizza condiments providing more customization than ever.

“Guests have always appreciated the convenience of OceanNow, and because the pandemic has expanded people’s use of ‘on-demand’ direct delivery services, we think even more guests will embrace the ability to order what they desire and have it delivered to them wherever they are on board,” notes Mario Siebaldi, Princess Cruises senior vice president of Guest Experience. “It not only prevents unnecessary queuing, more importantly it elevates the guest experience.”

Princess MedallionClass vacations are enabled by the award-winning OceanMedallion, a wearable device that pairs with IoT-driven innovation to significantly enhance and personalize the guest experience.

In addition to service on demand, Princess MedallionClass Vacations are also marked by touchless embarkation and disembarkation, frictionless commerce, and keyless stateroom entry. Additional contactless capabilities accessible using smart phones and tablets include way-finding; family and friends locator; and interactive fun.

Can you book a sailing with princess and transfer it to a travel agent?  Will the princess agent lose the sale or stat?

Yes. Call Princess and tell them who you want for your TA. They may give you an authorization number unless its a Big Box TA. Then call TA to transfer it. Very easy.

You can't do it on the phone........at least I could not.

In November Princess started requiring a form to be filled out and faxed to Princess.

It may take some time to complete the transfer.

You have to transfer within 60 days of booking.

suekel

I didn't have to tell princess.  I just called my TA and told her.  You have to do it now within 60 days of booking.

I have a T/A that I use & I usually book online with Princess to get what I want. Then I contact my T/A to see what price I can get. If I decide to transfer my booking my T/A does the rest. I’ve never contacted Princess as my T/A can do everything.

Times have changed.

I assume Princess doesnt care if the reservation is transferred?

They allow it.

San Diego Ellie

Personally, I just found the process of transfer so much more cumbersome.  I think they are trying to discourage the use of travel agents and are trying to pump up direct bookings.  Just two days ago, even though I had no money on a cruise, but had a hold on it, they would not transfer to my agent without sending me a Transfer Form to sign and send to the agent.  I knew they had toughened up the procedure if you already had a deposit, but did not know there was a hurdle if you held it directly with them with a day or two "hold," called your agent and giving the agent your booking number asked agent to put down your "futures" as deposit.  And if you are thinking why not cancel and have agent rebook, the price had gone up  in a day.

I don't think that is it (discourage agents). More than 90% of cruises booked are handled through agents.

They want you to either use an agent or Princess. They are trying to cut down when you use both. In the future, you may just use your agent to book because it is "more cumbersome" to transfer, or just use Princess. They are tired of paying Princess employees when in fact people transfer and the agent gets the entire commission.

Thanks

I think Coral is correct.

With th so many cruises booked with Travel Agents, Princess would not wish to discourage the use of Travel Agents.

Many years ago Renaissance Cruise Line tried a model that was direct booking based (no TAs) but they ended up abandoning that model.  (Also no kids and no smoking).

They went bankrupt shortly after 9/11.

Do be aware of the 60 day rule which they added late last year and are enforcing.  Now it may be easier to just use a TA from scratch

What all CAN a TA do without calling Princess ... that you CAN'T do, without calling Princess ?

I've attached the from required in November 2018 by Revenue Support.  It's pretty self-explanatory and can be emailed or faxed to them.

Reservation Transfer Request Form.pdf

Was trying to transfer a booking to a TA this week. I don't have a printer so I emailed the form to my husband to fill out and scan back to me. Apparently you have to physically sign the form which he didn't do. I ended up rebooking with the TA and cancelling my original booking because it was turning into a hassle.

Well for one thing I can't give myself an additional OBC, or other perk, without getting the money from somewhere.  Just transferred a cruise to my TA who gave me over $900 of refundable OBC for a 16 day South America/Antartica cruise.

Put a reminder on my electronic calendar so I don't forget to transfer my Greenland trip before 2 Feb. The "grace period" to transfer after more than 60 days is gone.

Offer me a substantial amount of OBC and some additional perks.

masterty

Here is my experience and timeline.

Using princess.com, I booked a 10 day voyage on 5/29/2018 in an S7 during the Sip and Sail promotion leaving 5/16/19.

Earlier this month I learned that there was a new 60 day window added to transfers to TA's. I also learned that they were giving a grace period until December 31st as some of you have been stating. I learned all of this January 3rd 2019. Past the newly added deadline. I was very upset like a lot of you and wished I had paid better attention to this board over the last several months.

I figured, what the heck I got nothing to loose so I can my TA (big box store). They eagerly take my information and tell me to expect an email 48-72 hours.

4 days later and no word, no call, no email.

On 1/7/19 I then call princess asking what is going on? They say they have not received anything and offered to email me the form to fill out. They assured me that this would be done 24-48 hours.

Today 1/11/19 still nothing. So I called again and spoke to a Princess agent. She was the first one to make mention of a 60 day window informing me that there was nothing else that can be done.

Upon a little persuasion I convinced her to ask her supervisor. Supervisor said the same bad news. I assured her that this was unacceptable in the politest fashion. I continued to express my displeasure in the change after booking with no notification informing me of a change of policy without sending me the new policy. Our conversation continued to go nowhere. Finally he agreed to transfer me to the costumer relations department. Once transferred to CR I luckily found someone who thanked me for my loyalty, (I am not that loyal) and offered to make a one time offer to transfer my booking to a TA. A booking that is more than 7 months old. He gave me a name and extension number and told my TA to call before he got off that evening.

Promptly called my TA and after a bit of hold time it is all done. I received my TA confirmation email showing the additional $500 of TA supplied OBC. Princess website also shows TA contact information for payment. Woo hoo!

Thanks to this thread or one just like it that I learned this before it was too, too late.

13 hours ago, StLouisCruisers said:   We transferred our 16 day South America/Antarctica cruise on Coral Princess (1-5-20) on Dec. 31.  Are you on the same cruise?

Why yes it is 🙂  and we also got our booking transferred on the 31st.

I also tried to transfer another booking at the same time, but because I had accidentally paid for the cruise in full Princess would not allow the transfer.  I intended to make a $500 payment using an AMEX card to take advantage of an offer that gave $100 statement credit, but unintentionally paid the balance.  Princess did refund the excess payment amount but their accounting system still flagged the cruise as "paid in full."

I believe the AMEX offer was valid until March, so if you haven't used it now is the time to make a payment.

sorry, my post wasn't clear... I was thinking about refaring, changing cabins, even re-booking under new promos

can a TA do those things without calling Princess ?

Yes - they can do it online. They have access to a Princess booking engine.

2 minutes ago, Coral said: Yes - they can do it online. They have access to a Princess booking engine.

If that then, it makes it very clear about the new 60 day policy ... why should Princess 'bother' with passengers calling about changes, etc when the booking, and related commission, will be transferred to a TA at final payment - sometimes up to 2 years after booking

Exactly. I called my agent the other day about a price reduction (and switching promos) - she could compare and tell me the difference and asked me if I wanted to make the change. It is all done online. Within seconds, I could see it on my screen (she did not call Princess).

I am sure there are some agents who are not familiar with the booking engine and prefer to call the cruise line. Also, there have been times when things don't go as planned online and they have to call to get something adjusted but most of the time, it is done online for agents.

Correct - yes, Princess was servicing these clients for up to 2 years and then losing the commission when people transferred it to their agent right before final payment. The agent would then make final payment (can do that online) and it is the Princess employees who did the work.

How To Cancel A Princess Cruise Booking

how-to-cancel-a-princess-cruise-booking

Introduction

Cruising with Princess Cruises can be an unforgettable experience, but sometimes circumstances may arise that require you to cancel your booking. Whether it’s due to unexpected events, changes in plans, or personal reasons, knowing how to cancel your Princess Cruise booking is essential. By following the correct procedure, you can ensure a smooth cancellation process and understand the refund policy.

In this article, we will guide you through the steps to cancel a Princess Cruise booking effectively. From understanding the cancellation policy to contacting the customer service team and confirming your cancellation, we’ve got you covered. Let’s dive in and discover how you can cancel your Princess Cruise booking hassle-free.

Keep in mind that it’s crucial to familiarize yourself with the specific cancellation policy of your booked cruise package. Each cruise line, including Princess Cruises, has its own terms and conditions for cancellations, which dictate whether you are eligible for a refund and if any cancellation fees apply.

Now, let’s proceed with the step-by-step process to cancel your Princess Cruise booking.

Step 1: Check the Princess Cruise Cancellation Policy

Before initiating the cancellation process, it’s crucial to review and understand the Princess Cruise cancellation policy. This policy will outline the terms, conditions, and potential fees associated with canceling your booking.

To access the cancellation policy, visit the official Princess Cruises website and navigate to the “Cancellation & Refund Policy” section. Here, you will find detailed information regarding the timeframes for cancellations, refund eligibility, and any applicable fees.

Typically, the cancellation policy varies depending on the type of cruise package you have booked, such as standard fares or promotional fares. It’s important to note that the closer you are to the departure date, the more restrictive the cancellation policy may become.

Once you have familiarized yourself with the specific cancellation policy for your booking, you will have a better understanding of what to expect in terms of refunds and fees.

In some cases, you may be eligible for a full refund if you cancel within a certain number of days prior to the departure date. However, if you cancel closer to the departure date or if you have booked a non-refundable fare, you may be subject to cancellation fees.

By carefully reviewing the cancellation policy, you can make an informed decision about whether to proceed with the cancellation and understand the potential financial implications.

Now that you are familiar with the Princess Cruise cancellation policy, let’s move on to the next step, which involves gathering the required information for the cancellation process.

Step 2: Gather Required Information for Cancellation

Before contacting Princess Cruises customer service to cancel your booking, it’s important to gather all the necessary information to facilitate a smooth cancellation process. By having the required details readily available, you can ensure an efficient and accurate cancellation request.

Here are some key pieces of information you should gather:

  • Your booking reference number: This is a unique identifier assigned to your reservation. It can typically be found in the confirmation email or on your booking documents. Providing this number will help the customer service representative locate your booking quickly.
  • Passenger details: Provide the full names of all passengers included in the reservation. This will ensure that the cancellation is applied to the correct booking and passengers.
  • Cruise details: Include the name of the cruise ship, departure date, and itinerary. This information will help Princess Cruises identify your specific booking and cancel it accordingly.
  • Contact information: Make sure to provide your contact details, such as your phone number and email address, so that Princess Cruises can reach out to you if needed.

Having these details prepared in advance will save you time and make the cancellation process more efficient.

It’s also worth considering any additional services or amenities you may have purchased alongside your cruise booking, such as shore excursions or specialty dining reservations. If you wish to cancel these extras as well, make a note of them and let the customer service representative know during the cancellation process.

Now that you have gathered all the necessary information, it’s time to move on to the next step: contacting Princess Cruises customer service.

Step 3: Contact Princess Cruises Customer Service

Once you have reviewed the cancellation policy and gathered all the required information, it’s time to contact Princess Cruises customer service to initiate the cancellation process. There are several ways to reach out to their customer service team:

  • Phone: You can call the Princess Cruises customer service number, which can be found on their website. It’s recommended to have your booking reference number and other details handy when making the call.
  • Email: If you prefer written communication, you can send an email to the provided customer service email address. Make sure to include all the necessary information mentioned in the previous step.
  • Online Chat: Some cruise lines, including Princess Cruises, offer an online chat feature on their website. This can be a convenient and efficient way to handle your cancellation request.

Regardless of the method you choose, be prepared to provide the necessary information to the customer service representative. This will help them locate your booking and assist you more effectively.

When contacting customer service, remain polite and clearly communicate your intention to cancel your Princess Cruise booking. The representative will guide you through the cancellation process and provide you with any additional information you may need.

It’s recommended to keep a record of your interaction with customer service, including the date and time of the call or email, the name of the representative you spoke with, and any confirmation or reference numbers provided.

Now that you have contacted Princess Cruises customer service, let’s move on to the next step: following the cancellation process.

Step 4: Follow the Cancellation Process

After contacting Princess Cruises customer service to initiate the cancellation, they will guide you through the specific cancellation process. It’s important to carefully follow their instructions to ensure a successful cancellation.

The cancellation process may vary based on factors such as the type of booking, the timing of the cancellation, and any applicable fees or penalties. The customer service representative will provide you with the necessary steps and details to complete the cancellation.

Here are some general steps you may need to follow:

  • Confirmation of your cancellation request: During your conversation with the customer service representative, they will confirm that your cancellation request has been processed.
  • Payment of applicable fees or penalties: Depending on the timing of your cancellation or the type of fare you booked, you may be required to pay certain fees or penalties. The representative will inform you of any applicable charges and provide instructions on how to settle them.
  • Return of refundable deposits: If you made any refundable deposits as part of your booking, the representative will inform you about the timing and method of the refund.
  • Cancellation of additional services or amenities: If you have purchased any extras such as shore excursions or specialty dining reservations, the representative will guide you through the process of canceling them and inform you of any associated fees or refund eligibility.

It’s important to follow the cancellation process accurately to avoid any misunderstandings or complications. Be sure to ask any questions you may have during your conversation with customer service to ensure a clear understanding of the steps involved.

Once you have completed the cancellation process, move on to the final step: confirming the cancellation and reviewing the refund policy.

Step 5: Confirm the Cancellation and Review Refund Policy

After completing the cancellation process, it’s important to confirm with Princess Cruises that your booking has been successfully canceled. This will provide you with reassurance and clarity regarding the cancellation status.

Upon confirming the cancellation, take the time to review the refund policy outlined by Princess Cruises. Understanding the refund policy will help you navigate any potential refund processes and timelines.

The refund policy may vary depending on factors such as the type of fare you booked, the timing of your cancellation, and any applicable fees or penalties. It’s important to carefully review the terms and conditions provided by Princess Cruises to have a clear understanding of what to expect.

Here are a few key points to consider when reviewing the refund policy:

  • Refund eligibility: Determine if you are eligible for a refund based on the time of your cancellation and the type of fare you booked. Some fares may be non-refundable, while others may have specific refund conditions.
  • Cancellation fees: Assess if any cancellation fees apply to your booking and understand how they may impact your refund amount.
  • Timing of refunds: Take note of the expected timeline for receiving your refund. This can vary depending on the payment method used and the cruise line’s processing procedures.

By reviewing the refund policy, you will have a clear understanding of the potential refund amount and the expected timeline for receiving your funds.

If you have any further questions about the refund policy or require assistance regarding the cancellation or refund process, don’t hesitate to reach out to Princess Cruises customer service. They will be able to provide you with the necessary information and address any concerns you may have.
