I Just Tried Dior's TikTok-Viral Lip Oil, and My Life Will Never Be the Same

Working as a beauty editor, I come across several new beauty products  on my desk, but there are a select few that go on to become modern icons. They are the ones that beauty editors  and lovers alike agree will stand the test of time in the beauty hall of fame. I'm talking the likes of Chanel Les Beiges Cream Bronzer (I'll never, ever be without it),  Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540  (made TikTok famous for its expensive-smelling connotations) and Living Proof's Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo, which just about every beauty editor swears by.

Judging by just how popular Dior's lip oil has become (it has 773 million views and counting on TikTok, closely followed by #diorlipoildupe with 125 million views on the app) I'm certain that we can now declare it a modern beauty icon, with several brands jumping on the bandwagon to create their own dupes.

But at £32, I will admit it's certainly not the cheapest of lip oils around. So is the Dior Lip Glow Oil *actually* worth the hype? I decided to put it to the test to find out.

Dior Lip Oil Review

The formula.

For this review, I tried the shade Rosewood, which is a sheer muted pink. There are seven other shades in the collection, ranging from transparent to pink to coral and deep burgundy. So there is a shade for every skin tone and lip colour preference.

First things first, we need to talk about the formula. I personally feel that no other lip oil is as good as this one. The Dior Lip Glow Oil is enriched with cherry oil, which is particularly hydrating and leaves lips coated in a glossy lacquer that is neither sticky or greasy. It feels midway between a gloss and a lip balm, making it a great addition to keep in your handbag. And who wouldn't want to pull this luxe vial out of their bag? The packaging looks and feels chic, closing with a satisfying click as you twist the lid. It has a sweet yet minty scent, which isn't overwhelming by any means, it's only really noticeable if you hold it up to your nose.

The Application

Now, this might be my favourite part about the product. The formula actually reacts with the moisture in your lips to leave you with a subtle tint upon application. But, it lasts well after the gloss has worn off, leaving you with a pretty stain hours later. Perfect if like me, you're quite low-maintenance with lip products and want a touch of colour without the faff of reapplying a lipstick. That being said, I enjoyed using this so much that I did top up every couple of hours to enjoy the hydrating and glossy effects.

It feels so luxurious to apply, partly due to the formula, but also the oversized doe-foot applicator, which is so cushiony that it hugs the lips as you swipe it across. It feels silly to get excited about an applicator, but trust me—it's a luxurious experience.

As you can see, the initial result is very glossy, and it has already given my lips a touch of colour. This lasted for an hour or so before most of the gloss started to disappear after eating and drinking. However, my lips still felt so hydrated. And as someone who always, always has dry lips (I'm never more than two metres away from a lip balm at any given point) this is somewhat of a miracle. I also liked that my lips still had a hint of colour to them (see below) even after the initial sheen had worn away.

So is the Dior Lip Glow Oil really worth it? If you're asking me, it's a hell yes. It's safe to say that I'm a Dior Lip Glow Oil convert. Not only is the formula beautiful, but I love the subtle tint and hydration that it gives my dry lips. I'll be considering what other shades to get next—scroll ahead to see the ones I'm shopping.

I like to think of  lip oil as lip gloss's more health-conscious twin: She goes hiking. She eats vegan. She practices self-care. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t like to get dressed up and party. 

The lip oils of 2023 aren’t just a treatment you put on before bed or running to the grocery store. Many modern formulas create the effect of an eye-catching lip gloss while giving your lips a pillowy softness. The internet's favorite right now is the  Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil . The buzz is real on TikTok and Instagram — but so is the oil’s $38 price tag — so we asked, is it the game-changer the girlies say it is?

Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil: An Overview

The Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil does it all: It looks like a lip gloss and acts like a treatment. Its formula is slick, non-sticky, and comes in seven sheer hues to impart a your-lips-but-better tint. (There's also a clear version you can try, if that's more your speed.) It has a delicious, vanilla-mint scent — one that makes me wish it was formulated to leave behind a slight tingle. 

Ingredients and Formulation

Dior Addict Lip Glow is swirled with cherry oil, which cosmetic chemist  Ginger King says helps nourish dry lips. "[Cherry oil] is rich in essential fatty acids,  vitamin E , and phytosterols," she says. "It’s also an antioxidant and has anti-inflammatory properties." 

King goes on to say that the oil’s slick and thick consistency is thanks to a blend of hydrogenated polyisobutene, glutamate, and styrene polymers. Its color-changing magic is from D&C Red 27, which turns pink when it comes in contact with moisture.

New York City-based makeup artist and creator Delina Medhin likes the formula because it's "sheer and feels comfy." She says its comfortable texture is a bonus for when she is applying it on her clients (and even using it on herself). 

The key ingredient in the Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil is cherry oil (an emollient). This formula meets the  Allure Clean Standard .

How I Tested It

I tested the lip oil the best way I knew how — by putting it on when my lips were feeling particularly parched. I swept it on before I started my work day and instantly saw its color payoff. (It was ever-so-slight, but flattering.) I kept it on to assess how well it hydrated my lips throughout the day. 

My Honest Thoughts

The entire experience of applying Dior Lip Glow is satisfying. Its doe-foot applicator has a chubby, rounded tip that comes out of the tube with a lovely  squish . Gliding it on feels extra smooth and it leaves my lips looking juicy.

The tint is what made me really love this product. When the shine inevitably fades — or is rubbed off by my sips of tea or snacking — the pink hue persists, leaving my lips look healthy and moisturized. Sure, I have to reapply the oil five or six times throughout the day to get the full, glossy look, but it’s totally worth it.

Peep the results: At first application, the oil sat slick on my lips, hugging their contours like a well-tailored dress. When it was almost completely faded, my lips still looked moisturized with a sheen and a hint of color to them.

The Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil is $38 for 0.2 ounces of product. (0.2 ounces may not sound like a lot, but is comparable in size to other lip oils.) It's pricey, but it isn’t the  most expensive lip oil on the market. Lip treatments with a similar volume can have price tags  as high as $85 .

Is it worth it? I loved Dior Addict Lip Glow, but as someone who uses lip oils often, I have a few go-tos that are slightly cheaper (and last longer). But hey, I'm a girl who likes to have options, so I would consider adding this one to my regular rotation — particularly when it goes on sale.

Where to Buy it

You can get a tube of Dior Lip Glow in-stores and online at  Dior (obviously),  Ulta ,  Macy’s ,  Bloomingdale’s and  Neiman Marcus . While all eight shades impart beautiful sheer tints, you might want to go to the closest retailer to see which one flatters your lips most. (Pro tip: Given the sheerness of the colors and the wear of the formula, I would gravitate towards some of the deeper hues if your lips are naturally more brown than pink.) 

Regardless of what you purchase, your lips will feel and look more "alive" and well-moisturized once you put this on. And, given it is Dior, you’ll probably feel a little more luxurious, too.

I have always loved the full-on glam look that results from a pigmented matte lip, but lately, I've been obsessed with the high-shine, glossy trend. Since the pandemic started, I have only used lip balm since my lipstick would transfer onto my mask. Interested in working other lip products back into my routine, I started looking for something that was both hydrating and capable of giving my lips a pop of color.

That's when I came across Dior's Lip Glow Oil . The name instantly caught my attention, and the product is popular for its ability to nourish lips as it adds subtle shine and tint, hydrating with cherry oil while steering clear of the stickiness common to lip gloss. With its promises to go above and beyond typical products for a truly luxurious experience, I knew I had to try it. For my detailed thoughts, keep reading the full review below.

About My Lips: Dry throughout the seasons

My lips are on the dry side, and the texture remains that way all year round. If I use a matte product, I have to moisturize first, or else my lips will feel tight and uncomfortable. To keep my lips hydrated, I typically use creamy, glossy products such as the Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm and Tower 28 Beauty's ShineOn Milky Lip Jelly. A glossy lip delivers the moisture my lips require while also enhancing my look, which is an ideal multitasking situation for someone who has dry lips all the time. I used the Dior Lip Glow Oil multiple times a week with daytime and nighttime looks, to see how well it worked in various situations.

How to Apply: Simply swipe on

Dior's Lip Glow Oil features a soft, thick applicator that is simple enough to use. Even after one coat, my lips looked and felt luxurious and nourished. I tried the shade 001 Pink, which is a light pink. My usual routine included one to two coats of the oil, which is closer to a gloss but avoids the stickiness common to many formulas. Each time, the product went on nearly clear and quickly gave my lips a natural-looking tint with a gorgeous glow.

The Results: Plump, glowing lips

The Dior Lip Glow Oil features a light, minty vanilla scent that refreshes the senses without overpowering. The huge applicator has a luxurious feel to it, and the consistency is silky smooth and long-lasting. Instead of an oil, the formula feels more like a gloss, but it's not as thick and uncomfortable as ordinary glosses. It glides on smoothly and gives my lips a slight pink tint while creating a plump, moisturized, and full appearance. Like other lip glosses, it wears off after eating, yet it still leaves your lips rosy and hydrated.

The Value: A worthy splurge

Dior's Lip Glow Oil retails at $35, a price point that's on the high end but still somewhat more affordable than I expected from a luxury brand. It's not a budget-friendly lip product , but I think it is totally worth it. I received many compliments when wearing this, and I love how the scent and texture are barely there. The product is creamy, not too sticky, feels luxurious and hydrating on the lips, and the subtle tint of color is great for everyday or special occasions. To top it off, the packaging is classy and easy to bring along with you anywhere. In other words, the Dior Lip Glow Oil has a plethora of perks that really justified the price for me, though you can also find more accessible products that achieve similar goals if budget is your priority.

Tower 28 Beauty ShineOn Milky Lip Jelly : This lip gloss alternative ($14) has all the benefits of a luscious gloss without any of the drawbacks. Plant-based compounds that are genuinely beneficial to your health ensure a nourishing, protective finish. However, compared to the eight Dior Lip Glow Oil shades, the Tower 28 Lip Jelly has only four.

Dior's Lip Glow Oil is one of the only products that leaves my lips looking naturally plump while subtly enhancing my lip color and adding moisture. I'm in love with this product because it has the characteristics of a lip gloss without being too sticky or thick. I have super dry lips, and this lip oil has become my favorite way to keep them moisturized while simultaneously enhancing my look. I will definitely continue to use this and try out the rest of the brand's shades.

The makeup secret on everyone’s lips this year? Wouldn’t you like to know.

Well okay, we actually can’t stop talking about it, since the viral product is all over social media, from TikTok to Instagram. We’re alluding to the Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil , which at first we assumed was a humble lip gloss by the designer makeup brand, but indeed is so much more.

While we aren’t celebrities, we did want to try it on our own lips, before speaking about it again. After testing the formula, we have a verdict and some other news to share — we found dupes , too! Besides being the hot product of 2023, the Dior lip oil is really a Jack (or Jane) of all trades. Not only can you use the oil on it’s own for a glossy moisturizer , but you can also use it as a base under lipstick or over top of it for a glossy shine to finish the look.

“This lip oil teams an intense lip care formula with a natural, flattering color finish for an ultra-luminous result,” reads the product description. “Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil adapts to all lip colors to bring out their rosy glow. Its non-greasy, non-sticky oil texture pushes the boundaries of shine and creates a smoothing film that shapes the lips with an almost magnifying, mirror-shine effect.”

Other ingredients include cherry oil, which is a natural moisturizer that works to prevent dry and cracked lips, which is why many rave reviews say that they use it as an everyday gloss in addition to special makeup moments.

Pick a shade, any shade and you really can’t go wrong. We do know that the first shade, 001 Pink is indeed the most popular, as it provides just a touch more color than the clear formula, while remaining subdued on most ever skin tone. Read on for the color breakdown for the remaining shades, but keep in mind that makeup does look different on everyone due to your unique complexion.

000 Universal Clear: Exactly what you would think, this shade is totally transparent and just provides a sheer gloss

001 Pink: This is a very light, baby pink with a shine to it.

004 Coral: This more orange hue is a limited-edition color, that is a pinkish orange with shine.

006 Berry: A darker purple color, called “Blackcurrant” on the Dior site, with shine.

007 Raspberry: A brighter pink than 001, this shade has more pigment as well as shine.

012 Rosewood: Venturing into more of a red, this color is a rust shade with shine.

015 Cherry: A classic color for those that like a brighter pink than 001 and 007, with shine.

020 Mahogany: This is the only non-shiny shade of the collection, with a natural brown finish that is still glossy, but less shimmery than the others.

I don’t think I have been this excited to open a package in a while.

For this review, I was sent the Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil in 000 Universal Clear, 001 Pink and 015 Cherry, as those are the most popular shades that Dior sells. Frankly, as someone who used to wear cherry-red and bright orange lips in middle and high school, I tend to go for big and bright, but was very excited to see how a more subtle gloss would look on my lips.

To begin, I prepped my lips with a lip scrub, to make sure they were free of dry skin. Then, I tested the lightest shade — the no shade at all 000 Universal Clear . It is supposed to just enhance your natural lip color by adding some shine and smoothing over lines. This was the first time I was also able to smell and feel the product, and both tests passed with flying colors. The formula smells fresh and not like chemicals, with a hint of mint somewhere in the mix. The texture was very soft and smooth, which initially I assumed to mean sticky. That was not the case, as it more so coated your lips in a soft gloss rather than a sticky one. However, if you have long hair and the wind blows… yes, it will still stick! Oh and the color? Despite the pink applicator tip, the gloss was indeed clear.

Next up on the color intensity scale is the most popular shade, the 001 Pink . In the same fashion, I only applied one coat to clean, dry lips and at first I didn’t see a huge difference between the clear and this color. I then looked in different lighting and sure enough it was a very pale pink color. This shade may be too sheer for someone who already has naturally pink lips, but just like the clear, it can still be a great everyday gloss.

Lastly, the cherry-chapstick of your rich aunt —  015 Cherry . And this, ladies and gentlemen, is where I fell in love. I think this is the more subtle version of a cherry red lipstick, as while that tends to pop, this is a seductive whisper, that still gives off “kiss me” energy.

This time I also applied just one coat, but left it on for the ultimate test. After applying I then went about my day, making breakfast to see how the lip oil reacted when eating and drinking. We all know this isn’t a lip stain, so I expected transfer, but I do like a gloss to attempt to stay put at least a bit during the day, or at the very least not dry up or go gummy.

After a few hours of wear and some eating and drinking, I did indeed need to reapply, but not as much as I thought, as the color did stick around a bit. And, for a gloss, not having to reapply every 30 seconds is a great thing. I also noticed that when I did need a touch up, I felt my lips beforehand and they were noticeably softer than before, so whatever is in this cherry oil formula, it works to moisturize lips.

• Very wearable colors for most all skin tones, since they lean very sheer
• Wonderful smell and texture on the lips
• The packaging is immaculate — should you order direct from the Dior site, you also get to enjoy some free samples and the Dior packaging
• For a gloss it did last on my lips for quite a while before I needed to reapply
• Removal was simple with a makeup wipe or water in a pinch
• Can be worn alone or over top lipstick or liner for different looks
• Review: I loved the brighter shades the most, loved the long wear and lasting moisturizing effect!
• If you use the clear or lighter colors over top of lipstick, make sure to clean the brush thoroughly, or the lip gloss will start to change colors due to leftover pigment. Solution — use a makeup brush to apply gloss over lipstick
• A bit pricey (but worth it for the free samples and packaging perhaps?)

1. nyx fat oil lip drip vegan lip oil , $9.

This dupe is so phat. Okay, we know it’s a dated phrase, but the NYX Fat Oil has been said to be an exact dupe for the Dior Lip Oil at a fraction of the price. The packaging is nothing special, but the formula is smooth and the color range includes similar shades of pinks and neutrals.

Our review: I got the NYX Fat Oil in the clear shade, called “My Main.” This one mimics the clear Dior shade, with the same plush brush and glossy but not sticky consistency. This formula does have a slight tingly, plumping effect that Dior does not, and it also has a sweeter scent.

2. r.e.m. beauty Essential Drip Lip Oil , $16

Did Ariana Grande dupe Dior? Some say yes, as countless reviews deem her Essential Drip Lip Oil to be a dead ringer for the designer one. The applicator is unique, with a metal ball inside to load the product onto the lips and then the brush edge to apply evenly.

Our review: I was very excited to try an R.E.M beauty item from icon Ariana Grande. The formula is a bit thinner than the Dior oil, so it did take a moment to get used to the application. Speaking of application, I was a bit lost as to how the ball and brush applicator worked, but I did like the cooling metal on my lips.

3. Sephora Collection Clean Glossy Lip Oil , $6, original price: $12

Another fruity gloss, the Sephora version uses watermelon seed extract instead of the Dior’s cherry. The Clean Glossy Lip Oil comes in one pink shade as of now, with a vegan formula and a non-sticky finish.

4. Ulta Beauty Collection Juice Infused Lip Oil, $10

We got the juice. The Ulta Beauty answer to the Dior oil is their Juice Infused Lip Oil. This formula is made with natural ingredients and fruit juices to create a plump looking set of lips for a fraction of the cost.

Our review: Ulta Beauty has been a mainstay in my makeup drawer, so I was optimistic about this lip oil. I first noticed the smell, which was a delightful fruity one that was sweeter than Dior but not overpowering. The formula is a bit on the thin side, but remains not sticky and leaves a subtle shine.

5. Kosas Wet Lip Oil Plumping Treatment Gloss , $22

For gloss and plumping power, Kosas is a bestseller for a reason. The brand is sold at most makeup stores and comes in a very generous shade range. Not only does it mimic the shine of Dior, but this version also subtly plums the lips using peptides and hyaluronic acid.

6. Glossier Lip Gloss , $15

It would make sense that a brand called Glossier would have a great lip gloss. The classic gloss comes in three colors, a clear, a red and then a holographic shade that combines gloss and sparkles for a galactic effect.

Our review: For a clean gloss you can put on and forget about, this is perfection. I loved how it was pretty much unscented, and the formula itself was thick but not gummy or sticky, very much mimicking the Dior consistency.

TikTok user @katiehub.org made a post comparing the Clarins Lip Comfort Oil side-by-side against the Dior Lip Glow Oil, showing how each product looks in terms of shade and glossiness and concluding that “they’re the same thing.”

“It actually feels nourishing,” she says. “I look so kissable!”

For $8.99, this lip oil delivers lightweight moisture that gives your lips a plump and glowing appearance. It’s enriched with vitamins to nurture your lips and comes in five tints in varying shades of red and pink.

TikTok blogger @alexisleianna unboxed each lip oil, noting that not only does the packaging look the exact same, but the ingredients are also very similar — but for $30 less than the original.

3. CoverGirl Clean Fresh Yummy Gloss , $7.98

Another product beloved by TikTok is CoverGirl’s Clean Fresh Yummy Gloss. While it’s not technically a “lip oil,” it still has but has all of the qualities you want in a lip product. It’s infused with antioxidants and hyaluronic acid that hydrates and plumps, plus it applies with a rounded brush, so it’s easy to spread. 

In her review, @hydrationceo assures us that this gloss is incredibly smooth and feels like a lip oil. After wearing it all day, the TikToker rated the CoverGirl Clean Fresh Yummy Gloss an 8 out of 10, sharing that it feels great, has lasting color and seamlessly reapplies.

4. Tower 28 ShineOn Lip Jelly , $16

Similar to lip oil is lip jelly — a unique option from Tower 28. The ShineOn Lip Jelly has the shine of a gloss with the comfort of a balm, so it’s probably the most lightweight option out there.

In her TikTok review, @deirdrerosemorgan shares that she found the Tower 28 lip jelly after the Dior lip oil sold out. Though she (rightfully) acknowledges that no two lip products are exactly the same, she recommends the Tower 28 lip jelly over the Dior lip oil because it’s less sticky and super lightweight.

If you’re looking for a vegan option, TikTok obviously came through. Meet the InnBeauty Project Glaze Lip Oil, made with a plant-based plumping complex for a moisturized, high-shine finish.

In her review video, user @amypwong demonstrates just how easy the application is with its oversized applicator, describing INNBeauty Project’s product as glossy, plumping, non-sticky and very moisturizing.

6. NYX Professional Makeup Fat Oil Lip Drip , $8.99

Another drugstore option that gives you a big bang for your buck, the NYX Glossy Lip Oil is designed with a lightweight formula with moisturizing, plant-based ingredients to keep your lips hydrated and glossy for up to 12 hours.

“This is probably the closest thing to the Dior Lip Oil that I have seen yet,” TikTok reviewer @yazasfour says while holding both the NYX product and Dior’s. After modeling the two lip oils side-by-side, she determines that they look exactly alike but that the NYX option is less sticky.

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

Moscow subways are very clean

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

5. Kievskaya Metro Station was one of the first to be completed in Moscow. Named after the capital city of Ukraine by Kiev-born, Nikita Khruschev, Stalin's successor.

6. Novoslobodskaya Metro Station  was built in 1952. It has 32 stained glass murals with brass borders.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

8. Mayakovskaya Metro Station built in 1938. It was named after Russian poet Vladmir Mayakovsky. This is one of the most beautiful metro stations in the world with 34 mosaics painted by Alexander Deyneka.

9. Belorusskaya Metro Station is named after the people of Belarus. In the picture below, there are statues of 3 members of the Partisan Resistance in Belarus during World War II. The statues were sculpted by Sergei Orlov, S. Rabinovich and I. Slonim.
