SALZBURG BOAT CRUISE - EXPLORE SALZBURG FROM THE RIVER

Experience salzburg´s old town and surroundings from another perspective.

From 30th March to 03rd November, the Panorama boat “Amadeus Salzburg” offers you a sightseeing tour in a class of its own! Marvel at the city of Mozart from the river.

In earlier times, salt (Salz in German) was transported by boat along the river to the city, thereby giving the River Salzach its name. The last ship to cruise on the river was closed in 1891 due to shallow water and weak engines. More than a century later, and since the year 2002 it is possible to cruise along the river.

A MODERN SIGHTSEEING-BOAT 

The “Amadeus Salzburg” is a modern boat with seats for up to 80 passengers (including the outside deck) and has a draught of only 38 cm. The unique design with large windows allow for the magnificent panoramic view. The engines produce 1085 HP and allow the ship to reach speeds of 50 kmh.

The Salzach river boat offers you a range of tours to choose from. Whether it’s a roman­tic evening cruise, or a cruise and visit to the Palace of Hellbrunn and its facilities, this trip along the river offers fantastic views of the city of Salzburg and its many sights. You can also book a special package comprising a boat trip followed by a visit to the Salzburg Fortress with a unique concert high above the city, featuring works of Mozart and other composers. Another attraction is the combination a of boat-trip to Hellbrunn with its tricky fountains and the return journey with our original English double-decker bus. This combination (Tour 3) is unique in Salzburg. In the evening, the jetty of the “Amadeus Salzburg” then changes into into a well-attended Cocktailbar with a very special flair.

From the end of March to the beginning of November, the panorama ship "Amadeus Salzburg" offers a sightseeing tour in a class of its own: marvel at the city of Mozart by water.

In the past, it was the salt transports that traveled on the Salzach River and also helped it to get this name. An attempt was also made to launch a passenger boat service on the Salzach. However, this had to be discontinued in 1891 due to the numerous shoals and the then too weak engines. More than a century later, it has been possible to navigate the river again since 2002. The "Amadeus Salzburg" is an ultra-modern ship with up to 60 seats (without outside deck). The unique design with very large glass windows gives you an excellent panoramic view. The ship is an aluminum construction with a draft of only 38 cm. The power of 800 hp accelerates the ship up to 50 km/h.

Another highlight in the Salzburg area is the Königsee lake in the Berchtesgaden National Park in Bavaria. A boat trip on the emerald green water amidst the steep rock faces is a memorable experience.

The 8-km-long Königssee with its crystal-clear water is located near the town of Salzburg in the Berchtesgaden district of Bavaria and is a popular destination for families, couples and outdoor enthusiasts. During the trip on the electric passenger boat, you glide silently and in an environmentally friendly way along the east face of the Watzmann mountain towards the famous pilgrimage church of St. Bartholomä, which can be seen from afar with its striking red onion domes.

The boat trip to the peninsula of St. Bartholomä takes about 35 minutes. It concludes at Salet another 20 minutes away. In St. Bartholomä, a visit to the historic pilgrimage church and a walk along the shore are a must. The shady beer garden of the St. Bartholomä restaurant, the former hunting lodge of the Bavarian royal family, is ideal for refreshments. From Salet, it is a fifteen-minute walk to the Obersee lake, in which you can observe a reflection of the Hagen Mountain Range. At the head of the valley is the Röthbach waterfall, with a drop of over 450 metres, Germany's highest waterfall.

About 20 minutes into the trip, the boat stops and there is a demonstration how the sound of a flugelhorn or trumpet echoes off the "echo wall".
