No Visa Fee for Children: Here's How to Apply for a Family Group Visit Visa in UAE

Tourists can apply for the family group visit visa through travel agencies for either 30 days or 60 days which can be extended within the country.

If your loved ones are planning a trip to the UAE, here's a reminder: tourists can apply for a family group visit visa, in which children receive a visa free-of-cost.

The family group visit visa allows children under the age of 18 to receive a visa free-of-cost, while the parents to pay for their own fee.

“The application for this visa should be submitted along with either father’s or mother’s application,”

said Subair Thekepurathvalappil, senior manager for inbound and outbound operations at Regal Tours Worldwide.

Industry experts said that the family group visit visa is highly in demand and many visitors are opting for this entry permit.

“A family group visit visa is more convenient and cost-effective for families, given that there is no visa fee for children under the age of 18,” said Subair adding that it is not restricted to any number of children.
“The visa can be applied for one parent and both of them visiting the UAE is not necessary,”

added Subair.

As it's the festive season, we are issuing many family group visit visas every day as Indians want to celebrate Diwali in Dubai, said Firoz Maliyakkal, founder and CEO of Tahira Tours and Travels

Experts say that this visa was introduced two years ago and people from all over the world who are aware of it prefer this service.

How to apply

To apply for this visa, visitors should collectively submit passport copy and photos to the agency.

“We will process the entry permit as a family visa, where the children can travel without visa charges. However travel agent service charges and insurance must be paid for children,”

said Firoz.

“This visa will be issued in a day or two,”

Firoz added.

The visa fee for parents within the group application, along with the service charge for children, may vary on the travel agency.

However, the cost for 30 days visa for a parent ranges from Dh350 to Dh500 on average and the service charge and insurance for a child lies between Dh80 and Dh120.

“For 60 days visa for single person, the fees is Dh500 to Dh650 on an average and the service charge including insurance may vary from Dh130 to Dh170,”

visit visa dubai cost for child

Tourists can now apply for a family group visit visa, and the good news is that it’s free of charge for children.

Under this scheme, children below the age of 18 can receive a visa without any cost, while the standard visa fees apply to their parents. The application for this visa should be submitted alongside either the father’s or mother’s application.

Industry experts highlight the growing popularity of this entry permit among visitors, citing its convenience and cost-effectiveness, as there are no visa fees for children under 18. Importantly, there are no restrictions on the number of children eligible for this permit, and it even applies to children traveling with only one parent. This visa is available for stays of 30 or 60 days, with the option for extension within the country.

Application Process: To apply, a family needs to submit passport copies and photographs to a travel agency all at once. While the visa itself is free for children, travel agent service charges and insurance fees will apply. The agency then processes the application, typically issuing the visa within a day or two.

Cost: The visa fee for parents, along with service charges for children, may vary depending on the travel agency. For a 30-day visa for a parent, costs range from Dh350 to Dh500, and service charges and insurance for a child range from Dh80 to Dh120. A 60-day visa will cost Dh500 to Dh650, with service charges, including insurance, varying from Dh130 to Dh170.

Requirements:

  • Passport copy
  • Passport-sized photograph

Extension Policy: The family visa can be extended without exiting the country, but a full visa fee must be paid for children during the extension. Visitors can extend the family visa for up to 120 days without leaving the country.

In the UAE, residents with certain visas can sponsor family members to live in the country without a job.

If you are unemployed or a student under the age of 18, you need to be sponsored by a family member to remain in the Emirates year-round .

In October 2022, changes to the law meant that residents can now bring their parents and their spouse's parents without having to show they are the only source of support.

However, a minimum monthly salary is still required.

Here is everything you need to know about sponsoring family members.

What monthly income is required to sponsor parents or underage siblings?

To sponsor parents or underage siblings, the minimum salary threshold required is higher than for a wife or child.

Residents can sponsor up to five family members if they earn a minimum monthly salary of Dh10,000.

This increases to six family members if they earn at least Dh15,000 a month.

For more than six family members, dispensation is required.

The fee for sponsoring parents is Dh1,750, plus a refundable Dh5,000 deposit.

“Setting a minimum salary as a condition for expatriates wishing to sponsor family members is only to ensure they will be properly provided for,” said Nida Al Masri, a legal consultant at Justitia Advocates and Legal Consultants in Dubai.

“The terms and conditions are important to regulate this procedure, which reflects the UAE's commitment to supporting its expatriate community and creating a more inclusive society.”

Which accommodation is required to sponsor parents?

The law requires that sponsors are already in suitable accommodation before they apply for the family visa.

This is classified as at least a two-bedroom house or flat, before they apply for the family visa.

They must also present supporting documents that prove family ties at residency centres.

What documents do you need to sponsor parents?

The following documents should also be submitted:

  • Passport-size photograph of the family member
  • Copy of the family member's valid passport
  • Copy of the resident's Emirates ID, passport and residency page.
  • Proof of residence, such as a lease contract
  • Labour contract
  • Three months of bank statements for the resident

Can a woman sponsor her family?

In Abu Dhabi, a woman can sponsor her husband and children if the request is approved by the authorities, according to a customer service agent of the Federal Authority For Identity and Citizenship – ICA .

“She should have a valid work visa and her monthly salary should be at least Dh5,000. The cost of the one-year visa is Dh2,575 and it can be renewed for one more year,” said the executive.

In Dubai, a woman can sponsor her family, but her monthly salary should be at least Dh4,000 and her request must be approved by the GDRFA, the immigration authority.

“A wife can sponsor the family, but she has to obtain an no objection certificate from the husband. The NOC has to be notarised by the Dubai court notary service,” an Amer customer service representative said.

A single mother can also sponsor her child.

What does it cost to sponsor a spouse or child?

A husband can sponsor his immediate family members, such as his wife and children, if they have a minimum salary of Dh4,000 or Dh3,000 plus accommodation.

If these conditions are met, the husband must open a registration file.

This costs between Dh200 to Dh300 if they are outside the UAE, rising to up to four times as much if they are in the country, due to the price of the entry permit and the charge for change of status, according to the Amer Centre for visa services.

The medical test, Emirates ID typing and visa stamping will come to around Dh1,000 altogether. All costs are per person and there is no security deposit needed. Medical tests are not needed for children under 18.

Parents can sponsor sons who are 18 and can continue to do so until they are 25 . Unmarried daughters and disabled children are granted a residency permit regardless of their age.

The documents and the visa costs are the same and it is valid for two years.

90-day visit visa for family members

UAE residents can apply for 90-day entry permits for family members, rather than a 60-day visa, before sponsorship is finalised.

“The resident should have a refundable deposit of Dh1,000 to issue a visit visa for the family members,” the Amer Centre representative said.

The fee for an entry permit is Dh1,020 and the following documents should be submitted:

  • copy of the family member's valid passport
  • copy of the resident's Emirates ID
  • proof of residence, such as a lease contract or hotel reservation
  • copy of a return ticket

Visas can also be applied for online at the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security website, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs website, or on the department's app.

This scenario is a common reality for many expatriates venturing into the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for work or residency. However, the UAE recognizes the importance of family unity and offers a pathway through its Dependent Visa program, allowing sponsors to bring their spouses, children, parents, and even domestic staff along for the ride.   In this article, let’s delve into the intricacies of this visa scheme.

Want to know more about UAE dependent visa? This blog will cover:

Understanding UAE Dependent Visa

  • Types of Dependent Visas in Dubai

Eligibility Criteria for Dependent Visas in the UAE

Application process for dependent visas in dubai, frequently asked questions (faqs).

The UAE Dependent Visa, often referred to as the Family Visa, holds a significant role in facilitating the cohesion of families within the Emirates. Acting as a pivotal gateway, it allows sponsors, typically individuals holding residency or valid visas in the UAE, to extend sponsorship to their family members, enabling them to join and reside with them in the country. This initiative stands as a testament to the UAE’s commitment to family values, ensuring that loved ones can stay connected and share in each other’s lives despite geographical distances.

Benefits of the Dependent Visa in the UAE include:

  • Access to Healthcare: By securing the Dependent Visa, family members gain access to essential healthcare services provided within the UAE’s robust medical infrastructure. This ensures that their well-being is safeguarded, as they can avail themselves of medical facilities, consultations, and treatments as needed.
  • Quality Education Opportunities: The Dependent Visa opens doors for children to access quality education in esteemed institutions within the UAE. Family members can enroll their children in schools that offer diverse curricula and extracurricular activities, fostering holistic development and academic growth.
  • Integration into Community Life: With the Dependent Visa, families can immerse themselves in the vibrant culture and community life of the UAE. Access to social amenities such as parks, recreational facilities, and cultural events allows families to engage with the local community, fostering a sense of belonging and integration.

Types of Dependent Visas in Dubai (UAE)

Dependent visas in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) play a crucial role in facilitating family unity by allowing sponsors to extend sponsorship to their loved ones. Let’s explore the intricacies of these categories and understand their nuances.

Spouse Visa:

The spouse visa is designed for married partners of UAE residents or visa holders. It allows spouses to join their partners in the UAE and reside with them. Typically, the husband sponsors the spouse visa, although in some cases, the wife can also sponsor her husband. This visa category underscores the importance of marital bonds and enables couples to build their lives together in the UAE.

Child Visa:

Child visas cater to dependent children of UAE residents or visa holders. These visas enable children to accompany their parents and access education, healthcare, and other essential services in the UAE. Age restrictions may apply, with some visas only applicable to children under a certain age. Additionally, children above a certain age may need to provide proof of dependency or enrollment in full-time education to qualify for the visa.

Parent Visa:

Parent visas allow UAE residents or visa holders to sponsor their parents to reside with them in the country. This category acknowledges the cultural significance of filial bonds and ensures that aging parents can be cared for by their children in the UAE. Income requirements and proof of dependency may be necessary to qualify for this visa, and sponsors may need to demonstrate their ability to support their parents financially.

Domestic Staff Visa:

In addition to immediate family members, dependent visas in the UAE also extend to domestic staff, such as housemaids or drivers. This category enables residents to sponsor domestic workers to assist with household duties and caregiving responsibilities. Sponsors must meet specific criteria and adhere to regulations governing the employment of domestic staff in the UAE.

Understanding the Distinction: Spouse Visa vs. Dependent Visa

While the terms “spouse visa” and “dependent visa” are often used interchangeably, it’s essential to understand the subtle differences between them. The primary distinction lies in the sponsorship arrangement. The spouse visa is typically sponsored by the husband, reflecting traditional family dynamics. In contrast, the dependent visa can be sponsored by either parent, providing flexibility in the sponsorship process. This differentiation underscores the UAE’s commitment to inclusivity and recognizes the diverse familial structures present in society.

Types of Family Visas

In Dubai, there are three types of family visas available, each offering varying durations of residency for sponsored family members:

1-Year Family Visa:

Individuals sponsoring their stepchildren are eligible for a 1-year UAE Resident visa. This visa must be renewed annually to maintain legal residency status for the sponsored stepchildren.

2-Year Family Visa:

Sponsors with a 2-year labor contract are entitled to sponsor their family members for a 2-year family visa. This visa duration aligns with the length of the sponsor’s employment contract and provides stability for sponsored family members over the specified period.

3-Year Family Visa:

Sponsors holding a 3-year labor contract have the privilege of sponsoring their family members for a 3-year family visa. This extended duration offers greater certainty and continuity for sponsored family members, reflecting the longer-term commitment of the sponsor to their employment in Dubai.

These varying durations cater to the diverse needs and circumstances of sponsors and their families, providing flexibility and options to ensure family members can reside legally in Dubai while maintaining family unity.

Sponsoring dependents on a visa in the UAE is subject to specific eligibility requirements. These criteria ensure that sponsors can support their family members adequately and maintain legal residency status. Here’s an overview of the eligibility requirements for different dependent types:

  • Documents Required: Marriage certificate, proof of income, valid residency status.
  • Additional Requirements: Sponsors must have a valid Resident visa stamped on their passport and possess a valid Emirates ID. The sponsor’s salary, as mentioned in the labor contract, determines eligibility. Individuals earning a minimum salary of 4000 AED can sponsor their spouse on a Residency visa.
  • Recent Changes: All professionals are now eligible to sponsor their spouses, irrespective of their profession, as long as they meet the specified criteria.
  • Documents Required: Birth certificate, proof of income, valid residency status.
  • Additional Requirements: Similar to sponsoring a spouse, sponsors must meet the salary threshold specified by Dubai immigration. Additionally, sponsors can sponsor their unmarried daughters and sons until they reach the age of 18. Other Specific Situations:

  • Woman Sponsoring Husband and Children: Women sponsoring their husbands and children must hold a residence permit with specific professions listed, such as teacher, engineer, nurse, or doctor. These eligibility criteria ensure that sponsors can fulfill their responsibilities adequately and provide for their family members while maintaining compliance with UAE regulations.

Having these documents ready will streamline the visa application process and facilitate the timely issuance of the dependent visa for your spouse or child.

File Opening

A new file must be created in the immigration system using the provided documents. This is a prerequisite for further processing.

Entry Permit:

In the process of obtaining a dependent visa in Dubai, the type of entry permit required depends on the location of the family member. Below are the two types of entry permits available:

Entry Permit for Family Members in Dubai:

  • If the family member is already residing in Dubai, a specific type of entry permit is required for processing their dependent visa.
  • This entry permit facilitates the status change process for the family member, allowing them to transition from their current visa status to the dependent visa status.
  • The application for this entry permit is typically initiated after the initial documentation stage and file opening.

Entry Permit for Family Members Outside the UAE:

  • For family members who are currently residing outside the UAE, a different entry permit is necessary to facilitate their entry into Dubai.
  • This entry permit serves as a pre-approval for the family member to enter the UAE and complete the formalities for obtaining their dependent visa.
  • The application for this entry permit is processed based on the information provided in the visa application and is essential for family members to enter Dubai for visa stamping and residency.

Status Change or Entry into Dubai

If the family member is in Dubai, a status change application is required. If outside the UAE, entry into Dubai using the entry permit is necessary.

Medical Examination

A medical exam for the issuance of the family residence visa must be conducted at an approved medical center recognized by the Dubai Health Authority. Required documents for the medical exam include a valid passport copy, entry permit, and two passport-size photographs with a white background.

Emirates ID Application

An Emirates ID card application must be submitted along with the necessary documents, including original passport, valid residency or entry permit, birth certificate (or father’s passport or Emirates ID), and passport and visa of the sponsor (for newborns).

Insurance Requirement

All visa holders are required to possess medical insurance plans approved by the Dubai Health Authority. Personal medical policies for dependents with specified coverage limits can be purchased through local insurance providers.

Visa Stamping

The visa holder must either enter Dubai or perform a status change within 60 days from the date of entry permit issuance. Subsequently, the visa holder must obtain an Emirates ID and undergo a medical examination before proceeding with the visa stamping process.

The total processing time for a family visa, from file opening to stamping, typically ranges from 15 to 17 working days. Additionally, the cost of a Dubai family visa varies based on factors such as the applicant’s location, the validity duration of the residence visa (2 or 3 years), desired insurance coverage, and whether normal or express service is chosen.

Visiting Germany as a foreign tourist: Who needs a visa?

W hether you're into high culture, beer festivals or football — Germany makes for a fabulous holiday destination. But who needs a visa to visit?Germany is a fantastic holiday destination year-round. With more medieval castles than you can count, vibrant cities, a rich history, famously hearty fare and Oktoberfest, the world's biggest beer festival, Germany offers something for everyone. Plus, this summer, it's playing host to the UEFA 2024 European Football Championship. So that's plenty of good reasons to spend a vacation in Germany.

But what documents do tourists need to visit the country? Will a valid identity card or passport do? And is any additional paperwork needed? Well, that depends on your nationality.

Visiting Germany as an EU national

All EU citizens have the right to freedom of movement within the bloc, meaning they can enter and stay in any member state they choose for up to three months, provided they hold a valid identity card or passport.

So that makes it pretty straightforward to spend a holiday in Germany as an EU national.

Visiting Germany as a US national

Fortunately, entering Germany as a US citizen is just as simple. With a valid US passport, one can freely enter and stay in any European Schengen area state -- that includes Germany of course -- for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. But be sure to your passport is valid for at least three months after the intended date of departure from Germany.

Visiting Germany as an Indian national

Getting into Germany as an Indian tourist requires a little more effort. As a tourist, you will most likely want to apply for a short-term Schengen area visa, known also as a C visa. It grants the right to enter and stay in any European Schengen area state -- including Germany -- for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. You can fill out the application form here.

What are the passport requirements?

You will need a passport valid for at least three months after the intended date of departure. It needs to have been issued in the last 10 years and contain at least two blank pages.

What does it cost?

Indian adults applying for a short-term Schengen area visa must pay a E80 processing fee.

Children aged 6 to 12 pay a visa processing fee of E40.

What documents are needed?

You will need to fill out the visa application form, provide two recently taken passport pictures, a photocopy of your passport showing your biometric data, proof of medical travel insurance for the entire stay, provide your travel itinerary, proof of sufficient financial means for the entire stay, an invitation (if applicable) and proof of accommodation (if applicable).

How long does it take for the visa to be processed?

It is recommended to submit one's visa application at least 15 days before the intended arrival date. But do not lodge your application more than six months in advance.

Can you submit your visa application online?

No. Indian nationals must appear in person to make their Schengen visa application and provide biometric data.

Visiting Germany as an Afghan national

Getting into Germany as an Afghan tourist is also a bit of work. Tourists will also want to apply for a short-term Schengen area visa, which grants the right to enter and stay in any European Schengen area state -- including Germany -- for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. You can find detailed information here.

Afghan adults applying for a short-term Schengen area visa must pay a E80 processing fee.

You will also need to fill out the visa application form, provide two recently taken passport pictures, a photocopy of your passport showing your biometric data, proof of medical travel insurance for the entire stay, provide your travel itinerary, proof of sufficient financial means for the entire stay, an invitation (if applicable) and proof of accommodation (if applicable).

Here, too, it is recommended to submit one's visa application at least 15 days before the intended arrival date. Do not lodge your application more than six months in advance.

No. Afghan nationals must appear in person to make their Schengen visa application. Note that Germany's Kabul embassy is closed until further notice. Afghan nationals can submit visa applications at Germany's Islamabad, Istanbul and Dubai embassies instead.

And what about other nationalities?

An expert team of U.S. lawyers is hosting an exclusive seminar on the U.S. Golden Visa this Sunday at the Westin Hotel in Dubai Marina. If you are a parent with children pursuing their studies in the US or if you are an entrepreneur with plans on expanding your business ventures to the U.S., this seminar is for you. The team of U.S. Golden Visa experts will discuss the EB-5 program, its requirements, and how to successfully file an application with the U.S. immigration office.

What Is the EB-5 Golden Visa Program?

The EB-5 program allows investors to obtain their U.S. residency and Green Cards through an investment of $800,000 into U.S. government pre-approved projects with payment plans. This program is the Golden Visa equivalent for access to the United States. It provides a direct and secure pathway to obtaining U.S. citizenship and passports.

Because of high demand and the need to establish more stringent rules, immigration to North American countries is becoming more difficult. For instance, the H-1B skilled worker visa has reached its cap for this financial year and new visas are not being issued. Amid the rise in restrictions, the EB-5 program remains open to foreign investors and families in the Middle East. Those with the required investment capital can rest assured that they will receive their U.S. Green Cards if they play by the rules and show the U.S. immigration office that their funds are legally obtained and transferred to the U.S.

What Are the Benefits of the EB-5 Golden Visa Program?

• Faster processing compared to many other U.S. immigration programs

• Provides Green Cards for the entire family, including spouse and children under 21

• Freely live, work, and travel in the United States as a Green Card holder

• Provides employment authorization so individuals are no longer restricted to seeking employment sponsorships to maintain their immigration status

• Children seeking higher education from U.S. universities will not be counted as international students and as such have a higher chance of acceptance

• Children have access to free education and government grants

• Students can attend U.S. institutions at lower resident rates

• Ability to obtain U.S. citizenship and passports

File Now, Move Now, Pay Later

Payment plan options for the U.S. Golden Visa program are available. Families can file their EB-5 application with an investment of $200,000, move to the U.S., and invest the remainder pursuant to terms of the payment plan.

Who Is The American Legal Center?

The American Legal Center is the top EB-5 firm in the GCC, with its main offices based out of Dubai. They are expert guides on the U.S. EB-5 Golden Visa program. Their seasoned team of U.S. licensed lawyers and professionals has over a decade of experience in the EB-5 industry. They have successfully processed over 500 Green Cards for foreign investors through this program.

The founder and director of The American Legal Center is Shai Zamanian , a U.S. licensed lawyer and EB-5 specialist. He has been assisting families in the GCC in obtaining their U.S. residency through this immigration investment for over 10 years from Dubai. Shai will be the main speaker at this Sunday’s U.S. EB-5 Golden Visa event.

Shai will discuss the importance of this program for families that seek to send their kids to U.S. schools. He explains, "The U.S. Green Card is a game-changer for families with children." Once families obtain approval through the program, the U.S. government assists in paying for tuition, books, housing, insurance, and all other costs associated with being a student.

Attend This Seminar If You Are…

• A parent with school-aged children as your children can attend public schools free of charge

• A student wishing to pursue studies in U.S. institutions as you will have a higher chance of admission and access to lower tuition rates with a Green Card

• An entrepreneur seeking to pursue your business ventures in the United States

• An experienced business person wishing to expand your empire to the U.S.

If you have been contemplating your relocation to the U.S., this seminar is for you. The team will provide you with detailed information on how you can process your application, requirements for investments, and how you can benefit from participating in the U.S. Golden visa program.

To register for the seminar, click here or call The American Legal Center at +971 52 446 6095 or email [email protected] .

You are encouraged to arrive on time as late attendees will not be allowed to enter the event. For further inquiries about this seminar or upcoming events or free office consultations, you may reach out to The American Legal Center team.
