Founded in 2010 by Giovanni Guida (aka Joe Banana), Joe Banana Limos is a family run business based in Vico Equense, near Sorrento in Southern Italy. Built on Giovanni’s decades of experience in the European travel industry as a tour director, the Joe Banana team also includes his brother Pierpaulo, a licensed tour guide and popular guest on the Untold Italy podcast.

Today the company is a full-service travel agency with a well established fleet of vehicles, professional English speaking drivers, private boats and more that are the foundation of their service and experience business.

Joe Banana is Giovanni’s nickname which comes from the popular tradition of nicknames in the South of Italy – nearly every family has one. It was bestowed on 9 year old Giovanni who used to ride on the back of his fruit selling Grandad’s three-wheel minivan eating bananas. Spotted by his school friends one day, from that moment  on his nickname became “Banana”.

My wife and I had a personal driver tour of Italy for a once in a lifetime adventure, and Joe Banana's did not disappoint. Our trip included Rome, Naples, the Amalfi Coast, Assisi, Venice, Florence, and Cinque Terre. We had private tours of Rome, Venice, Florence, and Cinque Terre. Our driver was engaging and entertaining as we drove from place to place. We had a private tour of a cheese factory and a cooking class, but the highlight was a private tour of a family run balsamic vinaigrette that included a meal up in the hillside. From working with their staff, to the all the details they took care of, we would highly recommend using this company for your Italian Tour needs.

We searched for the right tour and the right company to help us celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We reached out to Joe Banana based on reviews we had read and started planning a trip for August 2023. Milenia was the best person to ask all my questions and make suggestions. She calmed my fears when I was “nervous” about things and let me know she would always be in contact with us. We spent two weeks in Italy visiting Venice, Florence/Tuscany region, Sorrento/Amalfi Coast and finally Rome. We planned all private tours and drivers and none of them disappointed. They were all fabulous. At the end of the tours we felt like family. Milenia always checked in every afternoon and asked how things went. Some days we suggested a slight change for the next day and she would always try to accommodate. All do the tours guides were phenomenal and so knowledgeable about the areas. All the drivers were friendly and great. I would 1000% recommend them to anyone and should we find ourselves back in Italy I would not hesitate to work with them again.

What can I say? Definitely the major highlight of our European vacation. Our family still talks about our 2 days with Carlo and Bruno. Our first trip was with Carlo in Rome, and I don't think there is a better driver out there. He was so knowledgeable, had plenty of surprises, great restaurant recommendations, and the most professional and well dressed man in Italy! I cannot see us returning to Italy, and not experiencing another day with Carlo as our driver. Similarly, Bruno was amazing for our Positano, Sorrento, and Pompeii trip. He had plenty of stories, sang with our girls, and took us on the most spectacular drive I have ever been on. He also recommended an amazing pizzas restaurant, and had us back tour ship with plenty of time. He even predicted the afternoon breeze that came through Pompeii!! We built a customized tour with Joe Banana that was centered around Sorento / Amalfi / Pompei / Rome / Vatican City. It was an INCREDIBLE trip. Everyone we interacted with from Joe Banana was great. Our main driver Raffaele and main contact Milena were always above and beyond and the fact that we found our own VRBO places to stay and Joe Banana worked that in so easily made it even better! Our local guides in Rome and Pompei were extremely pleasant and knowledgeable and we even planned a private boat day with our Captain Luigi out to Capri (HUGE BONUS)! All in all would HIGHLY recommend Joe Banana and will absolutely use them again for our next visit to a different part of Italy!

Our custom three-week tour through Italy with Joe Banana was the trip of a lifetime! Milena arranged an amazing itinerary that covered everything on our wish list, even a private kayak experience in Sorrento. Our driver, Stefano, picked us up in Tuscany, and kept us laughing as we travelled to Cinque Terre, Sorrento, Amalfi, Positano and Rome, to name a few of the spots we visited. A highlight of the trip was our private boat tour around Capri. We loved the Parco dei Principi in Sorrento and wish we had allowed for more down time to enjoy our time there. I can't speak highly enough of the fabulous service we received and the attention to every detail. I only wish Joe Banana had offices at every destination on our travel list!

Best guided tour in italy: We enjoyed a 10 day private tour of Venice, Florence, Rome with day trips to numerous smaller cities for wonderful experiences like balsamic and wine tasting, cooking classes and gondola rides. Our driver Giuseppe’s was fantastic and the van was very luxurious. All aspects of the trip were delightful with plenty of down time, personal requests attended to and highly knowledgeable guides who enriched our experiences immensely. Our guides ensured we saw all the highlights in the many museums and churches we toured and helped us to understand ancient and Italian history and art. Would definately use Joe Banana again and highly recommend to anyone traveling to Italy. The entire experience was professional and excellently planned and carried out

We only had 1 day in Rome and were looking at the best way to see all the most popular sites without having to walk all over Rome or take taxis or buses. We searched online for a tour company and found Banana Joe. The sites that they listed were exactly what we wanted to see. I used the email contact listed and was in touch with Ana L. She was fantastic from the first email to the last. She was very prompt considering the 8-hour time difference. She answered all my questions and was very detailed in her responses. When we got to Rome - our driver was waiting for us at the Termani train station with our name. He welcomed us to Rome and escorted us to his very comfortable Mercedes van. The nice thing about this tour is we were the only ones. We didn't have to share our time with other tourists. We had a private driver for the entire day. Our driver Alex was born and raised in Rome and knew the roads and sites extensively. He took us where we wanted to go and also recommended sites that we weren't familiar with but so glad we went. He would drop us off where he could safely and then we would communicate thru Whatsapp where he was located when we were done visiting the site. He never rushed us and we could take however long we wanted at any site. He dropped us off in an area that had several restaurants for lunch. We took our time and had a nice leisurely lunch. When we were done seeing all the sites we wanted to see, Alex dropped us back off at the train station. It was the end of a perfect day. One thing to keep in mind is that tickets to things like the Colosseum or Vatican are not included. So as far as I know - you only see the outside of these sites. That is what our family did. I highly recommend Banana Joe if you are looking to tour the major sites in Rome and want someone to take you everywhere. They are fantastic to work with and they take good care of you.

From the first contact with Joe Banana Limos - the service and communication was perfection. Ana was the most kind and knowledgeable person and kept up with us from the time of our reservation till we headed home. The drivers and guides were OUTSTANDING. We were picked up promptly from our cruise ship. We met our guide at the Vatican and had a wonderful tour. The next day was our tour of Rome - which wasn't easy, as many streets were closed due to The Race for the Cure. But our driver zigged and zagged and got us close to everything. Ana also handled a last minute request for airport service without blinking an eye. This is a FABULOUS COMPANY and I will keep recommending to anyone who is going to Italy. I promise - you can't miss with Joe Banana Limos.

Naples port all inclusive shared excursion to pompeii guided tour sorrento positano lunch.

We booked an Italy tour sharing trip (by Joe Banana limos) with this company that included Sorrento, Positano and Revello with lunch at La Tagliata. We were on a Celebrity cruise ship and we were picked up by Nunzio right outside the gates from the ship dock as advised in the communications we received when we booked online. Nunzio provided an excellent day on the Amalfi coast with clear and informative information about the areas we were travelling through and, he was happy to answer any questions that were asked by the group. The van we travelled in was new and very comfortable and had a speaker system so all the passengers in the van could hear the commentary. The lunch at La Tagliata should not be missed because, the view from the restaurant over the bay, was spectacular and the food and wine were excellent...

Shared shore excursion from salerno port paestum buffalo mozzarella farm.

We had a really fun drive from Napoli to pasteum with messimo. He is very entertaining! Paulo met us at the ruins and was impressively able to engage our often bored teens. Ask him for his trick panoramic photo of the ruins. The buffalo farm was really interesting. We had guide Laura who showed us the manure to methane to electricity operations and took us to meet some of the animals. (You can’t see the cheese made as it is done at night to be used the next day.) milking may be observed briefly if your tour is around 4ish. We really enjoyed the lunch. There is a big playground too if you have kids who need something they are allowed to climb on. Messimo found a shop on the way home for a very specific souvenir we wanted.

I organized a tour for 14 people from the port of Naples with Joe Bananas. Our day with Paulo was the best tour of our 10 day cruise! He was very informative, entertaining, shared lots of narration during our long driving times, quite friendly and most of all FUN. The restaurant selected for lunch was far from the tourist areas and we were served by the owners family, the food was better that what I imagined a meal in the hills of Italy would be. Thanks Paulo!

Perfect private shore excursion to Sorrento & Pompeii

Naples port shared excursion to pompeii, sorrento, amalfi coast.

Our family recently took a Mediterranean cruise, which brought us to southern Italy for the first time. I arranged a private shore excursion with Joe Banana Limos to travel from the port of Naples to Sorrento and Pompeii. The company graciously worked with me to customize it just a little bit, by adding in a stop at the olive oil farm, as well as a lunch at Frate Cosimo in the countryside. This was one of our most memorable and beautiful days from our entire trip. Giovanni was with us for the day, and was an absolute pleasure . . . warm, friendly, and eager to ensure we were having the best possible experience. He was also an extremely safe driver. The day was paced perfectly. We fell in love with Sorrento, which we toured on our own after a few orientation tips from Giovanni that included an excellent gelateria recommendation. Our visit to the olive oil farm was a true pleasure, and just the right length. The tasting was extensive and delicious. Next, we went to lunch at Frate Cosimo. The restaurant fed us a lovely and delicious variety of food that just kept coming. No menus, just a memorable lunch that was "molto delicioso"! Finally, we went to Pompeii. Joe Banana had coordinated with an expert tour guide there, Veronica, who helped us maximize our two hours in Pompeii. Her knowledge helped us get considerably more out of our visit than if we had tried to tour it on our own. I appreciated that this tour was arranged ahead of time by Joe Banana Limos. We truly couldn't have been more pleased with Joe Banana Limos. In fact, we enjoyed our day with them so much that we are going back to Sorrento next summer. And there is no question who we will ask to take care of our transfers and tours! Thank you to the entire company, and especially to Giovanni, for a glorious introduction to your beautiful area!

Great Day with Aldo

We had the pleasure of touring with Aldo visiting the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii. Aldo knew all the great spots to visit and was very knowledgeable of the history everyplace we visited. He connected us with an expert guide in Pompeii, Paulo, who was excellent as well. We used Joe Banana tours throughout Italy and they provided an amazing experience!

A wonderful tour of Sorrento and Positano

We had a party of 8 from a cruise ship and arranged to have a driver from Joe Banana Tours. What a great choice this was! Our driver, Luca, was a delight. He was personable and knowledgeable with a great sense of humor. He made sure we were oriented at each stop and returned to pick us up at the designated point on time. His recommendations were spot on. Lunch at Tagliata’s was fabulous. I would highly recommend JBT for your tours along the Amalfi Coast.
