Elton John preformed to over 6 million fans across 330 shows in his farewell tour.

With glitz, glam and golden confetti, Elton John performed on tour for the last time on Saturday.

The final concert was set in Stockholm, Sweden. It wrapped up the British singer's "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" tour, which spanned over five years, 330 shows and 16 Gucci suits. The tour is considered the highest-grossing in Billboard Boxscore history. Last month, it became the first tour ever to make more than $900 million.

"What a journey this tour has been and now we find ourselves at the end of it," John wrote on Instagram before the show.

The show included several of John's signature songs, including Tiny Dancer, Rocket Man and Candle in the Wind.

In heart-shaped pink sunglasses, he thanked his fans for their support throughout the decades.

"You have no idea what it means to me, your kindness. I've had the most wonderful career," he said. "How lucky am I to play music. But I wouldn't be sitting here and talking to you if it wasn't for you."

The worldwide, farewell tour kicked off in 2018, but was forced to pause in 2020 for nearly two-years due to the pandemic. Last month, the 76-year-old gave his final U.K. performance while headlining the Glastonbury Festival.

In 2021, the international pop star told NPR that he looked forward to retiring from tour so that he could spend more time with his children.

"Ten years ago, I was going to just tour and make records. And I had nothing planned for the rest of my life except making music and touring," John said. "And then we had two fabulous little boys. And then David, my husband, said, well, what do you want out of life now? Do you still want to tour? I said, no, I don't."

He later said, "As much as I love playing, I want to be with my boys now. I want to be there for them."

Elton John bids an emotional farewell as he ends his final tour: ‘I’m trying to process it’

After 50 years on the road, Elton John has officially bid farewell to his touring career.

On July 8, the 76-year-old music icon completed his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour after performing hits like “Bennie and the Jets,” “Tiny Dancer,” and “Your Song” throughout his 23-song set.

The tour, which began on September 10, 2018 — but was halted in 2020 for nearly two-years due to the pandemic — has traveled across North America, Europe and Australia, concluding in Stockholm, Sweden at the Tele2 Arena in front of thousands of fans.

John’s goodbye, a moment fans have been anticipating for almost five years, finally arrived when he closed the show with “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” during his encore.

The legendary musician shared some of his tour's special moments on social media, including a photo him and his band taking their bows for the last time as the confetti trickled down and covered the audience and the stage.

“The Final Farewell, 8 July 2023,” he simply captioned the emotional moment in an Instagram post on July 9.

Famous friends and fans celebrated the Grammy-winning artist and his impressive, decades-long career.

Donatella Versace wrote, “I love you so much @eltonjohn. I will forever be proud of your exceptional achievements- you are a true genius.”

Singer Brandi Carlile said, “You did it Captain! incredible work ethic and stamina.”

She added, “Proud to know you everyday.”

Coldplay, who was playing a concert in Gothenburg, Sweden on July 8, sent a live video message that was displayed on stage for John to see.

In the sweet clip, frontman Chris Martin told John and the crowd, “Elton, from all of us here (in Gothenburg), from all the bands and artists you’ve helped and inspired, we love you so much. We are so grateful for everything you’ve done for the AIDS Foundation, anytime you’ve been kind to anybody.”

Martin also mentioned John’s work with the LGBTQ+ community and his influence on fashion, eyewear and the music industry.

Numerous fans shared how John’s music has personally impacted them on his Instagram .

“Saying thank you seems completely inadequate!” one person commented. “But thank you, your music has kept me going on some of my darkest days. The world is a better place with you in it!”

Another wrote, “Thank you so much for everything, Elton. I love you! I crossed the world to fulfill this great dream, I came directly from Belém do Pará, northern Brazil, to see my great idol!”

Meanwhile, some longtime fans hoped that singer wasn’t bidding farewell to performing in general, just the life of being on tour.

“I hope it’s not the final curtain but if it is, happy retirement, Elton! #legend,” one Instagram user wrote.

Another joked, “Wish you a happy retirement. Don’t forget to record new albums though.”

John also had a message for his fans. He reflected on his lasting bond with them in a statement shared in a press release.

“When we set off on my final tour in 2018, I couldn’t have foreseen in my wildest dreams the twists and turns and the highs and lows this tour — and the whole world — would have experienced in the next 5 years,” he said. “When we set off on my final tour in 2018, I couldn’t have foreseen in my wildest dreams the twists and turns and the highs and lows this tour — and the whole world — would have experienced in the next 5 years.”

He described his farewell show in Sweden as “magical.”

“I’m trying to process it, and I don’t think it will sink in for a while yet that I’m finally finished touring,” he said. “I can’t tell you how much I’m going to miss the fans and how much their support has humbled me — it will stay with me forever.”

After a dazzling opener on Thursday and a triumphant encore on Saturday (“Saturday, Saaaaturday!”), Elton John returned to Dodger Stadium on Sunday for his final North American bow.

The legendary performer let the sun go down on Los Angeles one last time as he stepped back onto the stage that catapulted him to superstardom nearly 50 years ago . At Sunday’s performance of the North American leg of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, John was joined by collaborators Dua Lipa, Brandi Carlile and Kiki Dee.

But they weren’t the only stars who came out to support the renowned singer and pianist at his grand Dodger Stadium finale, which was available to stream live on Disney+ . Other celebrities in attendance included Joni Mitchell, Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Lizzo, Heidi Klum, Angela Bassett, Jude Law, Billie Jean King, H.E.R., Donatella Versace, Miles Teller, Kirsten Dunst, JoJo Siwa, Connie Britton, Christopher Lloyd, John Stamos, Raven-Symoné and Taron Egerton, who portrayed John in the 2019 biopic “Rocketman.”

“This is a very special night for me — a very emotional night for me — and it’s been a long journey,” John told the crowd.

“I first came here to America in 1970 to the City of Angels … and I played a club called the Troubadour … and it helped me by accelerating my career in America with a review I got from Robert Hilburn for the L.A. Times . So I’ll never forget that.”

The year was 1970 and Elton John, then just 23, was making his U.S. debut onstage at the Troubadour in West Hollywood.

In line with his previous Farewell Yellow Brick Road shows , John performed several of his greatest hits — from “Tiny Dancer” and “Bennie and the Jets” to “Saturday Night’s Alright” and “Your Song.” He also showcased his supporting acts by peppering in some duets: “Cold Heart” featuring Lipa, “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” featuring Carlile and, of course, “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” featuring Dee.

“In 1975, my next guest was here and sang with me, and we sang this song,” John said before introducing Dee.

“I thought it would be great to reenact that incredible moment. So I asked her to come over, and she did. Here is Kiki Dee!”

Elton John will take his final bow at Dodger Stadium. So let’s time travel back to his legendary 1975 concert

Beginning Thursday, Elton John will play his final U.S. concerts at Dodger Stadium, where, in 1975, he donned a sequined Dodgers uniform and made music history.

Nov. 16, 2022

Hordes of fans across generations arrived early to the ballpark to beat traffic, which was predictably nightmarish ahead of Thursday and Saturday’s shows. Sunday was no exception.

“I’ve been listening to him since my parents … and then going through the AIDS crisis, he stepped up and took the lead … which really meant a lot to me,” said concertgoer Sean Masse, a 53-year-old registered nurse from South L.A. who was dressed in his own extra-bedazzled version of John’s iconic Dodgers uniform from 1975. “Plus, everything he went through with his sobriety and his drug use … he’s been a beacon of light to everybody.”

A man and a woman wear spangled Dodger uniforms and matching blue feather boas.

“Elton John is an icon,” echoed concertgoer Thad Epting, a 51-year-old car salesman from Canyon Lake who wore a rainbow suit with a feather boa and flashing hat. “He’s one of the greatest songwriters ever, and as a kid I heard countless Elton John songs. … With my kids growing up, we were always singing Elton John songs in the car. So it’s been part of my childhood, part of my adulthood, part of my kids’ childhood.”

Before saying his final goodbyes, John still had a few more tricks up his sparkly sleeves. Near the end of the show, he welcomed to the stage his longtime songwriting partner, Bernie Taupin, who embraced his friend and gave a warm shout-out to John’s band.

“We’ve been writing together since 1967, and we … love each other more than we’ve ever done before,” John said. “He’s amazing.”

Up next was John’s husband, David Furnish, and their two sons, Elijah Joseph Daniel and Zachary Jackson Levon, who waved to the audience amid thunderous applause. John explained that he has decided to stop touring in order to spend more time with his family, who he brought out “to show you why I am retiring.”

Elton John takes a bow

With his Dodger Stadium swan song behind him, John is gearing up for the epilogue of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour — which will resume abroad next year and conclude in Stockholm in July.

“Thank you all for dressing up. It makes me so happy to see when you wear the most fantastic costumes,” John said during his final speech of the night.

“I became successful first in America, and you bought the singles and the albums … the cassettes, the CDs — and more importantly you bought tickets to the shows, which I love more than anything … I want to thank you for that because you made me. Without America, I wouldn’t be here. … I wish you health and love, prosperity. Be kind to each other, OK? And farewell.”

Elton John begins final US dates of farewell tour with set list surprises and singalongs

how many farewell tour elton john

PHILADELPHIA – Goodbyes can be brutal. But Elton John continues to usher out his extraordinary career  with grace and enthusiasm while ensuring fans savor a spate of highlights from his colossal catalog.

At Citizens Bank Park on Friday, a beaming John and his legendary band emerged before the sunset, and more than two hours and 23 songs later, the first date of the final U.S. leg of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour was a footnote in history.

The show also marked the launch of the stadium portion of the tour, which will wrap in Los Angeles in November before bouncing back to Europe for the concluding run. It feels like another lifetime ago that John embarked on his long and winding goodbye ; indeed, the world looked much different in 2018 when the show made its debut in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

But he’s still enticing baby boomer devotees and millennial newcomers alike, a refreshing span of ages evident among the sold-out crowd of more than 40,000.

During the encore, John noted – with a bit of humble disbelief – that he was playing a recent hit , “Cold Cold Heart,” his mashup with Dua Lipa (who appeared on video), in tandem with his first top 10 single from 1971, the truly timeless “Your Song.”

It’s a feat both admirable and exceedingly unlikely to be duplicated.

'Love' The Beatles? Consider catching their Cirque du Soleil show in Vegas while you can

Throughout the night, John, in a bejeweled white tux jacket, black pants and lavender-framed glasses, appeared refreshed and happy behind his black Yamaha grand piano. The hit parade began with the familiar plinking notes of “Bennie and the Jets” followed by “Philadelphia Freedom,” with guitarist Davey Johnstone casually unfurling the song’s jangly riff.

80 for 80: Ranking some of the best Paul McCartney songs for his birthday

John, 75, was delightfully hammy between songs, popping up from his piano bench to point and grin at the crowd while mouthing thanks and leading a concert that felt brisk but never rote.

While some songs (“I’m Still Standing,” “Tiny Dancer”) contained noticeably lower keys to suit John’s range, he mostly sounded robust, adding vocal embellishments to the end of an easy-swinging “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues” and injecting “Someone Saved My Life Tonight” with emphatic emotion.

The highlights along this trip down sentimental street were numerous. The hazy effects on the video accompanying the ever-ethereal “Rocket Man” added a gauzy coating as the dreamy chorus segued into an elongated piano coda. “Levon,” one of the underrated beauties in John’s cache of creativity with lyricist Bernie Taupin , escalated into a gospel throwdown before weaving back into the melody. And the epic instrumental “Funeral for a Friend,” a sonic eruption that melts into “Love Lies Bleeding,” remains a master class in musicianship.

Though John’s teammates never earned a moniker a la the E Street Band, these exceptional players have been an integral part of his live shows. Many, such as dapper drummer Nigel Olsson (sporting his trademark gloves, headphones and a pink pocket square in his suit), the treasure that is percussionist Ray Cooper and the distinctive Johnstone have shared stages with the maestro since the earliest gigs.

Percussionist John Mahon, keyboardist Kim Bullard and bassist Matt Bissonette also add musical flair that prompted John to comment on how much he has relished playing with this group.

Concert review: The Weeknd tour is an apocalyptic rave

While their tautness was expected given the volume of shows they’ve played, the band also leaned into a couple of surprises in the set list.

The rollicking “All the Girls Love Alice,” from 1973’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” album, arrived for the first time this year (John did unearth the album track during many pre-pandemic farewell dates). But more unexpected was the tour debut of “Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters,” John’s swoony 1972 ode to New York City that he hasn’t performed live since his 2018 Las Vegas run. It was, as always, enchanting.

As the concert crept toward its conclusion – with fans realizing the wind down of their time in John’s orbit – the musician offered sincere thanks and told the audience to “love each other” while wishing them “health, happiness and success.”

Then, as he has throughout the tour, John unwrapped “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” his delicate rumination of life in transition and the ideal summary of a career that will be forever celebrated.

Elton John Ends Touring Career With Farewell Show in Stockholm (Video)

Famed singer completed his 333rd and final show in his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour

Elton John at Dodger Stadium

After a pandemic delay, five years and 333 shows, Elton John has brought his touring career to an end with the final show of his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour in Stockholm, Sweden on Saturday night.

The 76-year-old artist first announced the tour back in 2018, which began in Allentown, Pennsylvania and continued through the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. His final American show at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, was livestreamed on Disney+ and became part of a documentary for the streaming service, while BBC One broadcast his performance at Glastonbury Festival.

“I’ve had the most wonderful career, beyond belief,”  John told the crowd  at Stockholm’s Tele2 Arena. “Fifty-two years of pure joy, playing music. How lucky am I to play music? But I wouldn’t be sitting here and talking to you if it wasn’t for you. You bought the singles, the CDs, the albums, the cassettes. But more importantly, you bought the tickets to the shows. And you know how much I love to play live. It’s been my lifeblood to play for you guys. You’ve been absolutely magnificent. Thank you.”

Only Murders Succession

Elton John’s decorated career includes five Grammy Awards and two Best Original Song Oscars for the “Lion King” song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” and “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again,” a song he wrote for the 2019 Dexter Fletcher biopic about his own career, “Rocketman.” He has also achieved nine No. 1 singles in the U.S. and U.K. over the course of his career, the most famous being his 1997 re-release of “Candle in the Wind,” with lyrics rewritten to honor the late Princess Diana of Wales.

While his touring career is over, John says he plans to keep writing music and pursuing other creative endeavors, and has not ruled out one-off live shows in the future.

“I will never be touring again, but I may do something in the future — a one-off thing,” he said. “But that’s miles away. I want to appreciate my family, my sons, my husband, everything.”

John also got a surprise live shoutout from Coldplay, which was also doing a show in Sweden in nearby Gothenburg.

“From all the bands and all the artists you’ve loved and inspired and helped, we just love you so much,” said Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. “We are so grateful for everything you’ve done for us. Everything you’ve done for the AIDS Foundation, anytime you’ve been kind to anybody. Everything you’ve done for LGBTQ [people], everything you’ve done for fashion and eyewear.”

“Everything you’ve done for sexiness and love and dressing gowns. Everything you’ve done for music, everything Bernie [Taupin] has done for lyrics, everything your band has done over the thousands of shows you’ve done. We love you so much. We’re going to miss you so much,” he continued.

Elton John Thanks Farewell Gig Crowd for '52 Years of Pure Joy'

The legendary singer played the final date on his 'Farewell Yellow Brick Road' tour, and ended his touring career, on Saturday

how many farewell tour elton john

Elton John is saying an emotional farewell to touring.

The legendary musician, 76, wrapped his live-touring career of over 50 years over the weekend with a final emotional stop on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour at the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm.

Closing the show with "Your Song" and, fittingly, "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," John thanked fans for supporting him on tour over the last five decades.

“I’ve had the most wonderful career, beyond belief. 52 years of pure joy playing music, how lucky am I to play music? But I wouldn’t be sitting here if it wasn’t for you," John said, per The Independent . "You bought the singles, albums and CDs and more importantly you bought the tickets to the shows and you know how I love to play live."

“It’s been my lifeblood to play for you guys and you’ve been absolutely magnificent – thank you," he added. "I will never forget you guys. I’ve played so many concerts, how could I forget? You’re in my head, and my heart and my soul and I thank you so much.”

The final stop on the tour — which spanned more than 330 dates — was a massive one, as John treated concert-goers to two-and-a-half hour set of music. From opener "Bennie and the Jets," to "I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues," to "Tiny Dancer" and, of course, "Candle in the Wind" and "Rocket Man," the singer played many of his greatest hits.

The night also featured a special appearance from Coldplay's Chris Martin — via a video link from Copenhagen — and a handful of costume changes from the style icon, as well as a reminder from John that this was his last hoorah on the road, as he confirmed he'll “never be touring again."

“I want to appreciate my family, my sons, my husband, everything. I’ve earned it and I don’t regret it tonight. But I want to say thank you to the band, the crew, everybody… I love you," he said, per The Independent.

As the outlet noted, John has played over 4,000 shows since launching his first tour in 1970. His final run of shows, according to Billboard , became the first in Billboard Boxscore history to break $900 million in ticket sales, surpassing Ed Sheeran with $776.4 million and U2 with $736.4 million.

The legendary singer reflected on the special night on Instagram, captioning two pictures with, "The Final Farewell, 8 July 2023." One image showed John standing with his arms held out wide, while the second saw him and his band wave goodbye and bow as confetti fell from above the Swedish crowd.

John's husband David Furnish paid tribute to the singer by posting a sweet clip of him and their two sons Zachary, 12, and Elijah, 10, as they waved on the side of the stage.

"And off he goes…. 🚀 One final trip down the Yellow Brick Road 💫 330 shows under his belt 💪🏼🎹 Finally off the road and into the sunset 🌈☀️," Furnish wrote in the caption. "So excited for the next chapter together 👨‍👨‍👦‍👦 We love you Daddy ❤️"

Elton John’s Farewell Tour Is Now Third Biggest in History With $661M Gross … and Growing

The British singer-songwriter hits 250 shows of his final tour, with about 50 more to go.

By Eric Frankenberg

Eric Frankenberg

Way back in 2018, Elton John launched the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, billed as his final, three-year-long global trek. The announcement of his final shows has paid dividends, generating more than half a billion dollars while he plays to more than four million fans. So far, according to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore, the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour has grossed $661.3 million and sold 4.5 million tickets across 257 shows around the world through Oct. 9.

John has been banking millions since the tour began, but stepped on the gas after returning from a two-year COVID-19 delay. After playing 39 North American arena dates in the spring, he flew to Europe for a 19-date stadium run, and then came back stateside for more than 30 domestic stadium shows. Of those, 20 have played so far, adding $133.4 million and 830,000 tickets to the tour’s sum.

Elton John Surprised With National Humanities Medal by President Joe Biden

From one North American leg to another, attendance jumped by 192% to 41,513 per show, and nightly revenue increased by 160% to $6.7 million.

The 39 stadium shows that have played so far in Europe and North America have earned $202.6 million and sold 1.3 million tickets, making up 31% and 30%, respectively, of the tour’s total figures, despite accounting for just 15% of its shows.

In getting to this point, John’s goodbye run is the third tour in Boxscore history to pass the $600 million threshold, following U2 ’s 360 Tour, which grossed $736.4 million in 2009-11, and Ed Sheeran ’s reigning champ, The Divide Tour, which earned $776.4 million from 2017 to 2019.

Sheeran’s all-time champ is an interesting comparison point, with 258 shows throughout its two-and-a-half-year run – just one more than John’s tour has played so far. In contrast to Sheeran and U2, as well as other $500 million tours by Guns ‘N Roses , The Rolling Stones and Coldplay , the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour has spent most of its time in arenas. While these classic rock greats made their sums quickly in 50,000-plus-capacity stadiums, John has been a road horse in 15,000-cap arenas, able to push high ticket prices in a relatively intimate setting.

The current North American leg continues with 13 more shows before its Nov. 20 close at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium. John continues with a 10-stadium run in Australia and New Zealand in January, plus a return to European arenas with more than 40 shows in the spring. The Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour is scheduled to close at Stockholm’s Tele2 Arena on July 8, 2023, and with just $115 million between him and the all-time record, John soldiers on at breakneck speed.

Across his career, John has grossed $1.7 billion and sold 19.1 million tickets, becoming the highest grossing solo act in Billboard Boxscore’s three-decade-plus history.

Elton John promises this really is his farewell tour: 'I can tell you now that this is it'

VIDEO: Celebrating Elton John on his 73rd birthday

It feels like Elton John's Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour has been going on forever, and it kind of has: It started back in 2018 and right now, it's set to conclude in July 2023. Then, John swears, it'll be over for good.

"I can tell you now that this is it," he shared during an interview with the British publication MusicWeek . "I will not be devoid of music, but as far as schlepping around the world doing shows, I don't want to do it anymore. I've done it since I was 17."

While John wants to wind things down touring-wise, his music career has had a big resurgence over the past few years. His set list includes both his first No. 1 hit -- 1970's "Your Song" -- and his most recent No. 1 hit, which came last year with the Dua Lipa duet "Cold Heart."

"I'm a 75-year-old heritage musician with a great catalog of songs and a great track record, but that doesn't mean to say you stay relevant," he said. He thanked his management, including his husband David Furnish, for keeping him that way, and Dua helped, too.

"She's got everything there is to have as a female artist," John said. "She's bright, modest and not carried away by her own success."

In fact, John feels young female artists like Dua and the bands HAIM and Wet Leg are "making the best music" these days.

"It comes from innocence and pure joy and that, for me, is what music is about," he said of those acts.

As for young male artists, John said he just got a listen to Lewis Capaldi's eagerly anticipated sophomore album. While he reveals that Lewis has "apprehensions" about it, in his opinion, he said, "it's a no-brainer."

Elton John EGOT Emmy Win Dodger Statium Show

Elton John ’s touring life may have come to an end last year with his five-year, 330-concert worldwide Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour , but the work continues, including recording new music.

“He’s been working away,” says his husband and manager David Furnish . “I don’t think you’re going to have to wait too long [for new music]. I can’t say when but he’s making real progress. It was important for him when he came off the road to have a little bit of a breather and a break. But he’s always said he’s retiring from touring, but he’s not retiring from working.”

Joining the couple for the Oscar party hosting duties this year are Neil Patrick Harris, David Burtka and Tiffany Haddish. “We feel we can end AIDS by 2030 but we can’t take our foot off the accelerator,” Furnish said.

A performance by R&B-soul-rock trio Gabriels will headline the party following the Oscar telecast. John has been championing the group since being introduced to their music a couple of years ago. In June, John invited Gabriels’ lead singer Jacob Lusk to perform “Are You Ready for Love” with him at the Glastonbury Festival. “I’ve had crazy dreams,” Lusk told Variety . “I’ve dreamed of winning an Oscar, I’ve dreamed of winning a Grammy. I’ve had dreams of living in a $5 million mansion and driving a Maserati. I’ve never dreamed of singing with Elton John at Glastonbury — and in a pink tuxedo! I’ve never dreamed of seeing him play at Dodger Stadium and being asked to go backstage with his family. Never dreamed of that.”

Gabriels will perform a full set at the Academy Awards party with John joining them for a song or two. “Elton will perform with them,” Furnish said. “It’s hard to keep him off the stage.”

John’s post-second-knee-surgery plans include opening two stage musicals this year with “The Devil Wears Prada” launching in London and the Tammy Faye Baker bio-musical, “Tammy Faye,” premiering on Broadway.

It was recently announced that Tony nominee Vanessa Williams will star in “Prada” as Miranda Priestly , the role that Meryl Streep played in the movie adaptation of the bestselling novel. Later this month, “Tammy Faye” details, including its theater and dates, will be announced at an event in New York.

“I describe it as ‘Book of Mormon’ meets ‘Evita,’” Furnish said of “Tammy Faye.” “And we’re going to open it in an election year. It’s just the way it kind of worked out. But it’s really interesting given the non-constitutional role that religion is playing in politics today.”

The show includes a scene about the deal Ronald Reagan made to earn Jerry Falwell’s support in the 1980 presidential election. “You didn’t say ‘God’ in the White House until Reagan. Falwell said, ‘I’ll give you 30 million right wing Christian evangelicals voting Republican if you put God back in the White House,’” Furnish explained. “That was never part of the founding principles of America. America ran away from religious persecution to create a free society where people could be equal and free.”
