Great Bike Tour of the Baltics (fully guided from Vilnius to Tallinn 2024) Tour

Great Bike Tour of the Baltics (fully guided from Vilnius to Tallinn 2024)

Although the "biking" was not on my bucket list (was talked into the trip by our brother/sister-in-law), but we had a very great time! Mindaugas was a great guide, and our driver was also great. The hotels were fine, the food was excellent, and the biking was better than I'd expected! Our fellow companions were delightful. The history and tours of the Baltic countries was wonderful. It would have been nice to have had a microphone hook-up during our guided walking tours in order to hear all the information. It would have been nice to be able to buy t-shirts (Mindaugas wore a few) that displayed a map of the tour. I think it would have been nice if we could have ordered them before or after the trip. Is it possible to do so now? Otherwise, I'd never done anything like this before, and may do it again at some point.

We really enjoyed the tour.

Prague to Budapest Ride Tour

Prague to Budapest Ride

the route was had a good amount of variety. The guide did an amazing job even though she was on her own. The company needs to better communicate hotel changes since I had booked extra nights in Budapest and had to move hotels.

Cycle the Baltics Tour

I enjoyed the trip . Some of the cycling routes were breathtakingly beautiful. Was happy with the selection of hotels

Cycling in the Balkans ( 4 Countries Albania-North Macedonia-Kosovo-Montenegro) Tour

Cycling in the Balkans ( 4 Countries Albania-North Macedonia-Kosovo-Montenegro)

Stunning scenery, great cycling (highlights were the descents to Pluzine and Kotor), good food, chance to go swimming in some lovely lakes, some organisational problems which may have been due to the big group size (21) but did detract from the experience in some areas: the route differed on occasion from the one advertised in the itinerary; we had to move hotels on the rest day in Kotor which was a bit disruptive, and this wasn't communicated until quite late; on many days we were split across multiple different accommodations (including in some cases what seemed like Airbnbs) due to lack of hotel options. A lot of the hotel options were actually pretty good (the best one being in Peje), but the two nights in guesthouses were more basic and people were sharing bathrooms or even a room with someone else despite paying for the single supplement; that would maybe have been acceptable had it been flagged in the itinerary, or at least people could book or not based on having that information beforehand. All of this makes it sound like a poor experience but it really wasn't, I had a great time and can definitely recommend cycling in this part of the world

It would be difficult to find fault with trip / itinerary. It was well paced and very well organised and was probably made even better by the glorious weather we were fortunate to experience every day.

Fantastic trip. Hotels were tremendous, especially the meal in the hotel in Saint Florent-le-Vieil. Maps were good though I used my app Bikemap.net, to act as a Sat Nav. A couple of hiccups with luggaeew but minor in comparison with holiday organisation. Would certainly recommend.

Sasa Tour Guide and Andro the driver were great. They took care of the group with their jovial attitude and ensured that individual's needs were met. They provided easy to follow directions and kept the group together. There were occasions when things would have gone wrong but Sasa and Andro ensured that they are there on every step along the way to make it trouble-free and enjoyable experience. I highly recommend intrepid tours and would consider future tours through Intrepid.

Bike tours are tremendously popular adventure vacations. But what are the best bike tours in the United States and who are the most experienced tour guides? In this article, we’ve listed 10 of the top bike tours in North America.

We’re confident that at least one will inspire you to start packing your bike.

White Rim Trail

Route of the hiawatha.

  • Oregon Coast Bike Route

Napa Valley Vine Trail

  • Going to the Sun Road
  • A Tour of Vermont
  • Kualoa Ranch
  • Haines-Skagway
  • Blue Ridge Parkway
  • Shark Valley Bike Loop

Utah Bike Tour | White Rim Trail

The White Rim Trail outside Moab, Utah is on the bucket list of many cycling enthusiasts. Impressively, this 100 mile long primitive trail in Canyonlands National Park is full of technical terrain, looping switchbacks, rolling hills and stunning scenery. If you love off-road adventure, the White Rim Trail is an excellent destination for a bicycle tour.

Bike tours for the White Rim Trail are 4-days long and cost $999 per person. The bike touring season starts in the spring, breaks for summer, and picks up again in the fall. Escape Adventures is an experienced tour guide offering mountain bike rentals for about $80 a day.

Route of the Hiawatha

The Route of the Hiawatha is an outstanding self-guided bicycle tour for those looking for a short, one-day retreat. This tour along the Montana-Idaho border winds through 15 miles of early 1900s railway featuring 10 train tunnels and 7 sky-high trestles. Periodically, you can stop to appreciate waterfalls and lookouts where you can learn about the history of the Hiawatha. And, there’s a lot to do when you’re not riding. For instance, many tourists enjoy the scenic chairlift ride to the summit of Lookout Pass. Others delight in spending an afternoon in the quaint town of Wallace, Idaho .

The Route of the Hiawatha bike tour comes with a free helmet headlamp to help you make your way through the tour’s long, dark tunnels. Bicycle and helmet rentals are available at the lodge. Because the trail is on Forest Service land, only Class-1 eBikes are allowed (pedal assistance up to 20mph and no throttle).

The bike trail itself is mostly downhill. On the way up, you can choose to power through the uphill climb, or save your quads and take the bus. Tickets for the self-guided tour are available online or in person. Adult tickets cost $36 for Friday, Saturday or Sunday, and are half-price the rest of the week.

Oregon Coast Bike Route

Oregon Coast Bike Tours

The Oregon Coast Bike Route is held in high-esteem by cyclists all over the world. The journey is 370 miles long and takes you from the Washington border all the way to California. Along the way, you’ll see impressive landscapes, ocean-view panoramas, picturesque lighthouses and famous landmarks.

Details of Cycling Escape’s 6-day bicycle tour are available on their website. Expect to cover between 50 and 75 miles each day. Meals and lodging are included for just under $3,000 per person.

Napa Valley Vine Trail Bike Tours

Wine, dine and bike your way through Napa Valley. The Napa Valley Vine Trail offers 47 miles of level, bicycle-friendly paths from Vallego’s Ferry to Yountville. Currently, the Napa Valley Vine Trail Coalition has about 12.5 miles of trail construction completed. You’re welcome to take your bike down the entire trail but be prepared for a few bumps along the way.

Napa Valley Bike Tours will provide you with a bike (or upgrade to an eBike) and 12 to 14 miles of guided fun along the Napa Valley Vine Trail. You’ll visit two wineries and enjoy a catered picnic lunch. While you’re riding, your tour guide will provide you with information about the valley’s history and vine-to-bottle process. With Northern California’s temperate climate, this bicycle tour is ready to be enjoyed year round.

Going-to-the-Sun Road Bike Tours

Going-to-the-Sun Road

Glacier National Park welcomes millions of visitors each year. We recommend planning your bike tour in the spring because Going-to-the-Sun Road is closed to cars in May and June, but open to bikes!

Glacier Guides leads a spring tour up and down Going-to-the-Sun Road. With almost 3,500 feet of elevation change this tour is considered to be moderately difficult. Unfortunately, due to insurance regulations, you aren’t allowed to bring your own bike. However, your Glacier Guides tour includes a bike or eBike rental.

Vermont Fall Foliage

Vermont’s Fall Foliage Bike Tours

There aren’t many places more beautiful in the fall than the Northeastern United States. Each year, cyclists travel from all over the world to catch a glimpse of the region’s deciduous trees as they burst into color. Vermont’s valleys and mountainous areas combine to make it a spectacular destination for a fall foliage bike tour.

Sojourn Bicycling & Active Vacations offers a 6-day fall color tour. Vermont bicycle tours start at $3,250 per person and include three days of biking. You’ll experience the small town charm of the Lake Champlain Valley before making your way through the Green Mountains to Stowe. You’ll also visit historic sites like the Old Round Church, sample homemade cider and donuts, and stay at the exclusive Inn at Shelburne Farms . Sojourn has a limited number of bikes available to rent so book yours early unless you plan to bring your own.

Kualoa Ranch, Hawaii

Kualoa Ranch Hawaii Bike Tours

Experience one of Hawaii’s favorite islands by bicycle. If you’re a fan of Jurassic Park , 50 First Dates or Jumanji , you can even opt to bike through the Kualoa Ranch Private Nature Preserve where these movies were filmed.

The Kualoa Ranch 90-minute Electric Mountain Bike Tour is the perfect way to experience the jungle, valley and sacred land that make up the Kualoa Ranch Private Nature Reserve. This amazing bike tour includes your eBike rental and costs $120 for adults.

Haines-Skagway, Alaska

Haines-Skagway Alaska

Alaska is home to beautiful roadways for biking. Unfortunately, the state’s electric bike regulations can be hard to navigate. This is one reason why it’s always a good idea to book with an experienced tour guide.

May through September, REI Adventures organizes a great Alaskan bike tour. This 4-day road bike tour routes through the temperate rainforests of Southeast Alaska, through one of North America’s longest fjords and into the alpine tundra. Each day, you can expect to ride about 25 miles. Lodging, meals and park entry fees are all-included for $1,899.

Blue Ride Parkway

Blue Ridge Parkway Bike Tours

Experience one of America’s favorite bicycle tours. The Blue Ridge Parkway offers diversity in climate, vegetation, wildlife and geological features. And, it’s world-renowned for its ecological biodiversity. Within the 469 mile area that makes up the Parkway, you will find the oldest river in North America, the deepest gorge east of the Grand Canyon, and the highest waterfall east of the Rockies!

Each summer, the Adventure Cycling Association leads a 7-day bike tour across the Blue Ridge Parkway. Due to elevation gains (up to 6,700 feet per day), this tour ranks as one of the most challenging the Association offers. Budget $1,849 per person for this tour. Groups of 5 or more save 15%.

Shark Valley Bike Loop

Shark Valley Bike Loop: Everglades National Park

Take a trip to America’s largest subtropical wilderness for a one-of-a-kind bicycle tour. Everglades National Park is home to numerous rare and endangered species. And, as a World Heritage site and International Biosphere Reserve, it’s a terrific vacation spot for history buffs and wildlife lovers alike.

Everglades National Park offers ranger led bike tours of the Shark Valley Bicycle Loop from January to April every year. On your 15 mile tour, you’ll learn about the various ecosystems, wildlife and cultural history of the Everglades. Reservations are required and can be made a week in advance.

Ready to book your bike tour? Whether you’re planning a day trip or a week-long excursion, one of the tour guides listed among the Top 10 Bike Tours In North America will be happy to assist you or answer any questions you may have about their services.

From the ancient spiritual pilgrimage of the Camino De Santiago and the Lakes District of Patagonia, to the storybook landscapes of Bavaria and the undiscovered beauty of Corsica, here are 10 of our best guided bike tours. We chose this list from an eclectic blend of our most popular tours, tour leader favorites, and some of our most celebrated tours that have garnered international press and awards. Each tour has an exceptional nature and reflects our company’s strong commitment to designing tours that are culturally immersive, highly-sustainable, and deeply connected to the local culture and people of each region. And while we believe that all of the tours we design are very special and offer unique experiences only available in those places, we know people love to know what “the greatest hits” are. So here they are: our Top Ten Tours.

bike tours top 10

1. Bike Across Italy – From Venice to Pisa

Cycle into the heart and soul of italian history, art, culture and cuisine.

This is it – the bicycle tour that we first created back in 1972; the “big bang” of our family business. If you love “everything Italy”: Roman and Renaissance history, the landscape, the great artworks, the architecture and the famed cities, and the wonderful culture, food and wine, then you’ll love our most beloved tour across Italy from Venice to Pisa. Beginning in romantic Venice, you’ll cycle through the heart and soul of Italy, following routes we’ve ridden for decades. You’ll enjoy gourmet meals and wines from Italy’s most renowned culinary regions, Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany and you’ll have time to wander through the great art cities of Ferrara, Ravenna & Florence, ending your journey by exploring Lucca and pedaling to Pisa.  Along the way, you’ll take in local markets and discover a side of Italy seldom seen by tourists.

Highlights:  Gourmet meals and wines. Venice. Ravenna. Florence. Lucca. Pisa. The gorgeous countryside of Tuscany. The farms, orchards and food of Emilia-Romagna.

“The trip of a lifetime. The tour guides were amazing and worked tirelessly to provide everything we needed. The routes were incredible, the food fantastic, the hotels spot on”   – Jacqueline M., Brooklyn, NY

2. Cycling the Camino de Santiago

An ancient spanish spiritual pilgrimage and the “tour of a lifetime”.

Selected by National Geographic Traveler magazine as one of “50 Tours of a Lifetime,” this is more than a beautiful bicycle tour, it’s an ancient pilgrimage, spiritual journey, and an experience not to miss. “A pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela is the finest journey in Spain,” wrote James Michener, and if you join this singular tour across northern Spain, from the Pyrenees to the Atlantic, you too will discover the magic of the Camino de Santiago. From Gothic cathedrals, to medieval monasteries, you’ll pedal through one of Spain’s premier wine growing regions – the Rioja – and encounter pilgrims and adventurous travelers from around the world.

Highlights:  Follows the route of the Codex Calixtinus. 1000 years of history along the Camino de Santiago. Coordination to obtain your Pilgrim’s Passport. Guided tour of León and Burgos

“This tour has just enough of everything you could possibly want in a bicycle tour: history, food, great routes and interesting people. There are few routes in the world where you bicycle or walk by 20 people speaking 5 different languages! Throughout history the Camino was a corridor that connected Europe. More recently it has become a path shared by thousands of people every year—exploring as they travel towards Santiago. You’ll find extraordinary cuisine, history, landscapes and great bicycling on many of our tours—but this particular one has just the right amount of all of these elements to make it extra special!” Dana S., Fairport, N ew York

3. Bicycling Patagonia’s Lake District Plus the Islands Of Chiloé

Cross the andes from argentina to chile.

Escape south and spend two weeks in the South American summer cycling through the Andes and crossing the continental divide from Argentina to Chile. You’ll pedal from the high plateau of San Carlos de Bariloche, coast alongside shimmering Andean lakes, and wind down through the valleys of the border region into Chile’s Lake District. Shimmering bodies of water will be a constant theme as you descend from the Andean lakes to the ocean, passing through scenery and a landscape so diverse you’ll feel as if every day you are visiting a new country.

Highlights : Chile’s Lake District, the Argentinian and Chilean Andes, Views of Osorno and Calbuco Volcanoes, Waterfalls on the Petrohué River, Thermal Pools, San Carlos de Bariloche

“I have described this as the best vacation of my life.” Toni H., Steamboat Springs, Colorado

4. Cycling Corsica Plus! Beaches and Bonifacio

A tour leader and staff favorite and possibly our most beautiful bike tour.

“Pure cycling pleasure.” Corsica is one of the most spectacular bicycle rides in the Mediterranean basin, and for some, the world. As one of our tour leaders says, “Corsica has phenomenal roads that lead to endless pleasures: beaches, mountains, the wonderful and exotic aroma of the maquis (local wild shrubland), fiadone (delicious Corsican cheesecake), Pietra (chestnut beer), and rides that are challenging without being exhausting.” From the sea, Corsica appears as a large piece of Alpine Europe floating on a bed of cobalt blue. Geologically, Corsica is more closely related to the Alps than it is to its larger neighbor to the south, the Italian island of Sardinia. But culturally and linguistically this birthplace of Napoleon is all Mediterranean. Inlets and harbors are filled with bright blue and white fishing boats and palm-lined streets bustle with colorful marketplaces and a a wide variety of cultural blends and exotic dialects brought from northern Africa, mainland Italy, and the rest of the Mediterranean basin. An island of stunning natural beauty, Corsica is also an island of delightful surprises and cultural treasures for the touring cyclist.

Highlights : Swimming in the Mediterranean Sea. Extraordinary coastal and mountain scenery. French and Mediterranean food. Picturesque villages. Beautiful Pisan and Genoese churches. Fabulous beaches. Impressive watchtowers along the coast.

“Corsica was really magical. It has everything, lush forests, desert, beaches, mountains. I would love to go back .”   Susan A., Colorado Springs, CO

The ride takes you through towns and cities whose architecture blends and harmonizes its centuries of ancient Roman, Arabic, Medieval and Renaissance influences. 6. Bicycling the Danube and the Czech Republic

Listed in outside magazine’s ” the 6 best cycling tours in europe” and national geographic traveler’s “50 tours of a lifetime”.

Pedal off the beaten track past gently rolling countryside, lakes, and through tiny towns as you bicycle from Passau, Germany through Austria and the Czech Republic ending in Prague. Every day is an opportunity to explore the colorful towns and impressive historical sites including a stop in the town of Melk to visit the Benedictine Melk Abbey, perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Danube river. You’ll get a flavor for the local food and landscape while pedaling past vineyards (and stopping to taste some fantastic wine!), through forbidden forests along the Austrian/Czech border, and into late Renaissance towns unchanged since the 17th century. Gently rolling cycling, bicycle-friendly paths and roads in Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic make this region enormously popular for cyclists of all stripes.

Highlights : Cycling bike paths, Boat ride on the famous Danube river, Crossing three borders, Wine tastings, Historic abbeys and castles.

“We had a fantastic, once in a lifetime, experience. Our tour leaders were the best. They were very professional and had great positive attitudes, even with a novice cyclist like me. 7. Cycling Italy’s Dolomites Plus the Sella Ronda

Italy’s most famous and dramatic mountains with world class cycling routes and a staff favorite.

If you love the idea of experiencing a blend of Italian, Austrian and German culture amidst the tremendous backdrop of Italy’s most famous mountain range while cycling one of the most challenging routes in cycling history, then this is the bicycle tour for you. You’ll pedal through the heart of this region’s stunning valleys and over world famous passes and discover why UNESCO honored the Dolomites with World Heritage status for its “exceptional natural beauty”. 8. Cycling the Dordogne Plus! the Vineyards of Bordeaux

one of france’s most stunning river valley’s takes you along the scenic route to taste world-famous wine and food..

We think the Dordogne is one of Europe’s most underappreciated rivers. The Dordogne River Valley is part of the historical region of Aquitaine, which for centuries was vaster and richer than the territory held by the kings of France. It passes through deep gorges, steep cliffs, fertile farmland to its mouth in the Bay of Biscay near Bordeaux.  That is why we love sharing the experience of cycling along the river from Brive-la-Gaillarde to St. Émilion by way of some of the nicest cycling routes and most hospitable hosts in Europe. Along the way you will visit cave sculptures at Cap Blanc, explore St. Émilion for two nights and sample some of France’s finest wine and food on one of our all-time favorite bicycle tours.

Highlights:  beautiful landscapes, Gouffres of Padirac, 3 nights in Sarlat, Rocamadour, medieval castles.

“This was one of the best cycling vacations I have taken in Europe. (I have taken 13) I LOVED France. Our guides were great. Also, I really, really love the EP format with the arrows allowing me to be more free on my own. The people, the scenery, the culture, the history. The food (and wine of course)! I loved it all.”  Helen Z., Las Cruces, NM

9. Cycling the Lakes of Austria and Slovenia Plus! Ljubljana

Three countries, three cultures, and a lifetime worth of views on this tour of a lifetime..

While Cycling the Lakes of Austria and Slovenia you will pedal through the intersection of Slavic, German and Italian culture as you cycle scenic roads with stunning backdrops of alpine landscape – you’ll even experience a hint of Italy’s Mediterranean coast along the way. This tour includes everything you can dream of from quiet roads, picturesque villages, Mediterranean views and rides along gently rolling rivers.

Highlights:  Lake Ossiach, Drava river path , Tarvisio, Klagenfurt, Villach, Lake Faak, Lake Bled, Border hopping between Austria, Slovenia and Italy, Julian Alps.

“What was your favorite experience on this trip? It is a toss up between the soup cooked in the outdoor caldron and schnapps tasting in Podkoren and the carriage ride around Lake Bled. The tour had everything from casual fun to sophisticated splendor! It was an excellent trip!” Kathy V., Roseburg, OR

Best touring bikes 2024: tourers for adventures on two wheels

Although there are many bikes capable of cycle trips, the best touring bikes remain the optimal tool for longer journeys

best touring bike

Our pick of the best touring bikes

What to look for in a touring bike.

Michelle Arthurs-Brennan

The allure of the open road is one of cycling’s enduring themes. Touring by bicycle allows for this on a grand scale, travelling for several days, often in far-flung places with all your kit strapped to the bike. Of course, micro-adventures closer to home can be just as much fun and still keep the spirit of adventure alive.

Whether you’re planning an expedition abroad or fancy exploring more local roads in far greater detail, a touring bike is the ideal tool for the job. Designed for cycling long distances in comfort, the bikes should be both stable and reliable in their handling, as well as providing all the mounts you need for pannier racks and bags and mudguards . Self-sufficiency is one of the tenets of cycling touring, so the bikes are usually designed with ease of maintenance in mind, too.

The good news for touring cyclists is that the range of bikes available to cater for their needs has grown substantially in the last few years.

In this guide, we've rounded up the more traditional options. If you're thinking of going off-road, perhaps investigate gravel orientated options in our buying guide here , and if you plan to go quick and travel light, see endurance road bikes here .

There's more on what to look for in a touring bike below - but first, here are our top picks of the best touring bikes.

Best Touring BIkes: Genesis Tour de Fer 30

Genesis Tour de Fer 30 touring bike

Specifications, reasons to buy, reasons to avoid.

This is a bike that's been created exclusively to provide a comfortable and practical ride for a touring cyclist. The Reynolds 725 Heat-Treated Chromoly frame promises a springy ride and an incredibly strong base.

The 160mm rotor mechanical disc brakes are a more modern introduction with a nod to practicality, especially in the wet. Although we’ve found mechanical TRP Spyre brake calipers aren’t quite as powerful or as easy to modulate as a hydraulic brakeset, they are easy to adjust and highly reliable – perfect for a long-distance tour.

A 10-speed Shimano Tiagra drivetrain is about right for a bike at this price point, but in our experience, a 50/39/30 crankset provides gears that are just a bit too big for cycle touring – particularly over hilly terrain.

But you can always swap this out for a smaller ringed option down the line. We find that with a cassette of 11-34t, going for a granny ring of 26t is generally a good bet.

We’ve always found Schwalbe’s Marathon tyres to be highly puncture resistant and with a good wear rate. In 35c, these are capable of traversing broken roads and tamer gravel, but if you’re planning on spending a large amount of time off road you would want something a bit plumper.

Handily, this bike come with many of the accessories we think are a must. Firstly, mudguards, but also dynamo powered front and rear lights, bottle cages and the Tubus pannier racks front and rear.

Surly Disc Trucker without any extra accessories

Surly Disc Trucker

A spin-off of Surly's much-revered Long Haul Trucker, the Disc Trucker keeps many of the much-loved versatility and can-do attitude, but this time with the addition of mechanical disc brakes and thru-axles – unlike the Genesis Tour de Fer 30 which has disc brakes and QR axles.

Opinion is a little split on thru-axles for touring – if you have any catastrophic issues with your hubs in more remote countries, you're unlikely to be able to find a replacement locally. That said, those kind of hub issues are quite rare and if it does happen you can always get a replacement sent out. For the improved alignment between the rotor and the caliper, we think the benefits outweigh the negatives.

A multitude of braze-on mount means the Disc Trucker is capable of running front and rear bags, full-coverage fenders, two water bottles, a spare spoke and even a pump peg. However, in not coming with these accessories, you will have to factor these into the cost, making the value for money a little less than the Genesis Tour de Fer 30 or the Kona Sutra.

With both 26" and 700c wheel build options available, the Disc Trucker can be as adventurous as you choose. The 26" (in sizes 42-58cm) is capable of taking up to 2.1" tires, while the 700c version (in sizes 56-64cm) has room for up to 42mm tires — both with fenders.

Although touring bikes generally do have a more relaxed position than a typical road bike, designed as they are for comfortably covering long distances, the Disc Trucker does have a particularly high front end. This isn't necessarily a problem, but if you are coming from a road cycling background, you may find just such an elevated position a little uncomfortable

Made from a CroMoly Steel, the Disc Trucker comes equipped with a Shimano Alivio/Sora drivetrain, with the 48/36/26 triple Alivio crankset and 11-34 9-speed Shimano cassette provides a gearing range we find to be a great balance between top-end speed and low-end winching – particularly if you’re planning on maxing out the rider and kit weight limit of 161kg (355lb).

Best Touring Bikes: Kona Sutra

Kona Sutra All Road touring bike

The gloss black Sutra is made from Kona 's Cromoly steel frame and is kitted out with smooth-rolling Schwalbe Marathon Mondial 700x40c tires on WTB STi23 rims, which are now tubeless-compatible.

The current model has replaced the previous Shimano Deore 3x10 drivetrain with 2x10 chainset from Shimano's GRX gravel range. It's a move that's unlikely to please the touring purists. The 46/30t chainrings are matched with a 11-36t cassette, which sees the bike's gearing range reduced. It should still see you up the steep climbs, just perhaps not in as much comfort as before.

Gone too are the bar-end shifters, replaced with Shimano 10-speed Tiagra road shifters. Again it's quite the change, moving the Sutra from a traditional tourer into a far more modern interpretation. It reduces some of the bike's previous mechanical simplicity, which is appealing if your tours are long and overseas. That said the move to STI levers will appeal if you're used to riding a regular bike.

Another nod to modernity are the TRP disc brakes, which are blend of mechanical and hydraulic, and the frame's thru-axles.

With a Brooks B17 leather saddle, mudguards and a front pannier rack finishing off this tourer, this good-looking bike oozes style.

The leather Brooks saddle does require a bit more care than what you might be used to – it need to be kept covered from heavy rain and needs a semi regular application of cream to keep the leather supple. But by functioning essentially as a hammock, it is exceptionally comfortable and only gets better over time as it moulds to your shape – it wears in, rather than out..

Ridgeback Voyage with mudguards and a rear rack

Ridgeback Voyage

Classic styling never goes out of date - and the vintage-looking Voyage has got it by the bucket load, though a redesign means that modern tech has not been overlooked.

The Ridgeback Voyage uses Reynolds 520 tubing for the frame, with a CroMoly steel fork. A rack and full mudguards (fenders) come as standard.

The Shimano 48/36/26t triple chainset paired with an 11-34 cassette offers a good range of gearing although with relatively large jumps between the gears due to having just nine gears at the rear.

We don’t find this to be too much of an issue when taking it steady on a cycle tour but would prefer something a little tighter if multiple very high mileage days are planned.

Shifting and braking is taken care of by Shimano's reliable Sora levers and Tektro cantilever rim brakes. The latter certainly help make the Voyage a maintenance-friendly machine - easy to maintain and find replaces for, even in remote locations - although disc brakes may be a preferred choice for all-weather tourers.

Alex rims with a high spoke count are pretty dependable, even if not the flashiest and fitted with 32c Continental Contact tyres, they can handle a little off road, but are best suited to the tarmac.

Trek 520 disc touring bike with front and rear panniers

Trek 520 disc touring bike

Constructed from Trek's CroMoly steel, the frame has been designed around disc brakes and fitted with a rack and fenders mounts.

The Bontrager Affinity rims are tubeless-ready, which might be worth setting up if you want a bit of a faster ride when commuting. But for long-term touring it’s generally best to stick with inner tubes so as to avoid the added complication of sealant drying out. Bontrager’s 38c H1 hard-case Ultimate tyres offer good puncture resistance themselves.

The drivetrain is a mixture of Shimano parts with Sora shifters. The crankset is a triple, with 48/36/26 tooth chainrings, and the cassette is an 11-36 so you'll have ample gears when the road goes up. TRP Spyre C 2.0 mechanical disc mechanical discs look after stopping.

However, with only nine sprockets on the cassette, the jumps between the gears are a little large, as with the Ridgeback Voyage. But if this does cause you an issue, and if you find yourself not using all of the gears, you could fit a tighter range cassette for smaller jumps.

Like the Genesis Tour de Fer 30, the wheel axles are QR, which can make getting the rotor and caliper aligned properly a little more difficult than with a thru-axle system

The overall weight comes in at 14.26 kg / 31.4 lbs in a size 57, which is lighter than some of the more traditional options.

Best Touring Bikes: Cube Travel Pro

Cube Travel Pro Trapeze touring bike

Cube offers its Travel Pro tourer in both a traditional crossbar and step-through frame design, with the latter making mounting and dismounting this robust, aluminum bike easy and convenient.

The convenience theme is carried through much of the bike. It's equipped with a Shimano Nexus internal hub gear system and a Gates CDN Belt Drive system which offers super low maintenance compared with a more traditional chain and derailleur system.

With this eight-speed hub, the jumps between the gears is a little larger and the overall range a little lower than you can get with a derailleur system, and it's not quite as efficient. But that said, if you're planning on taking it steady on your cycle tour, those points are pretty immaterial compared to the benefit of much lower maintenance.

There's plenty of clearance for extra-wide tires and the wheels are currently wrapped in Schwalbe's Marathon Almotion 29x2.15in rubber.

Finishing off this functional tourer are full-length fenders, an adjustable CUBE stand Pro kickstand, a Knog Oi bell, lights (front and rear), and a semi-integrated carrier for pannier bags; these features will have you covered for any adventure.

Best Touring Bikes: Salsa Marrakesh

Salsa Marrakesh

The Marrakesh is designed to take you touring wherever you wish — including a trip around the world if necessary. The frame is built from 4130 CroMoly tubing and has a serious array of mounts. There's room for up to five bottle cages thanks to extra fork mounts plus it comes fitted with front and rear racks. There's even a mount to carry a spare spoke.

Elsewhere there are bar-end shifters and a 3x9-speed Shimano Alivio groupset. The gearing range is designed to get you up the steep stuff even when fully loaded thanks to 48/36/36 triple chainring paired with an 11-36t cassette. The shifters also make roadside maintenance a little easier.

Its world-touring credentials are further aided by its generous tire clearance - 700 x 40mm even with mudguards (fenders), and comes stock with Maxxis Roamer 42mm tires. This means you should eat up the miles in comfort even when the road gets rough.

It's difficult to lay out specific criteria when it comes to choosing a touring bike because the beauty of touring is that it can be whatever you want it to be – there is no single best touring bike for everyone, what is best for you depends on the type of tours you want to go on. However, there are key elements to consider when selecting your two-wheeled riding buddy, which will enable you to get the best touring bike for you.

Touring bike frame

A Columbus steel touring bike frame

If you're planning a longer trip, and intend the bike to be used primarily for such adventures, then the resilience and comfort of steel is a sensible choice. As such, most of the best touring bikes will feature this metal. The amount you're willing to invest will dictate the weight, strength and character of the steel you end up with.

When looking at steel touring bikes, expect to see the word 'Chromoly' a lot. This is a form of low alloy steel that is used when strength is particularly important. It takes its name from two of the primary alloying (mixing of metals) elements used: “chromium” and “molybdenum”.

If you're planning on using the bike for touring and other duties: club runs, commutes, shorter rides where speed might be more in your interest, consider aluminum or carbon .

Bikes suitable for touring will have a relaxed geometry: a shorter top tube and taller stack to put the rider in a more relaxed position. The wheelbase will be longer, to create a feeling of stability. You'll also notice that the chainstays are longer - this means panniers can be mounted without a chance of clipping your heels and it allows for better distribution when panniers are full.

Touring bike wheels

Elsewhere in the cycling world, we talk about low weight and aerodynamics when it comes to bicycle wheels. And sure, if you're aiming to break a world record on your cycle tour then those are probably still very important areas to consider.

However, if you mainly want to get to somewhere rather far away, and you'd like to arrive there with a wheel that's still true and contains the same number of spokes you left with, then a strong wheel is what you desire. Look for a higher spoke count that you might opt for on a speedy road bike.

The best touring bikes will generally have at least 36 spokes per wheel, tandem touring bike can even go as high as 48.

Touring bike tyres

Close shot of a touring bike tyre with knobs for off road grip

It's incredible how much difference a set of tyres can make to a bike. The frame can be designed with comfort top of the agenda, but put on some narrow rubber shoes and pump them up to the wrong tyre pressure and you'll be bumping about all over the road.

Most touring cyclists will want to go for wider tyres - 28mm+, when compared with their road racing cousins. The further off the beaten track you want to go, the wider they should be. If you plan on tackling some light trails, look for 32mm+.

Touring bike brakes

A hydraulic disc brake caliper and rotor

Traditionally, touring bikes had rim brakes and these will certainly do the job for most road-based tours. However, disc brakes do provide far superior stopping power, especially in the wet, and they are now more common than rim brake on the best touring bikes

Since disc brakes don't rely upon the rim to bring the bike to a halt, they also reduce the risk of the rims becoming worn through debris building up on the pads.

Add in that many touring cyclists are carrying luggage, therefore adding to the overall load, powerful brakes that work in all weathers do seem like a sensible addition. However, not everyone likes the appearance of disc brakes on a traditional steel machine and the pads are a tiny bit harder to replace and set up, which is worth considering if you're maintaining your bike on the road.

Luggage and Lights on a touring bike

A purpose-built touring bike will come with pannier racks fitted, as well as fenders and perhaps even built-in lights. These all add to the overall weight, but if the intended purpose requires them, it's no bother.

If you plan to use the bike for other purposes, like group rides, then you may want to look for a bike that comes with eyelets for guards and racks, so that you can remove and fit them as and when.

There's a lot of clever luggage solutions around these days, such as frame bags and oversized saddlebags , that allow you to do away with panniers if you'd rather distribute weight differently.

Masters 2024 props, golf odds: Expert reveals top PGA Tour prop bets, parlay picks for Augusta National

Mike mcclure locked in his expert pga golf prop picks and parlay for the masters 2024 at augusta national.

bike tours top 10

The first 2024 Masters tee times will begin at 10:30 a.m. ET on Thursday after weather delayed the start of the opening round. At 100-1 to win outright in the 2024 Masters odds, it's unlikely that Tiger Woods will pick up his sixth career green jacket this week at the Masters 2024. However, there are still plenty of intriguing Masters Tiger props on the board for golf bettors to consider before he tees off. The latest 2024 Masters prop bets list Woods' Round 1 score over/under at 73.5, with the Over favored at -165 (risk $165 to win $100).

Other Tiger prop picks include a top-10 overall finish paying +900 and a top-20 performance returning +350. Which 2024 Masters props should you target involving Woods and every other golfer in the 2024 Masters field? Before locking in your 2024 Masters prop picks or entering Masters pool picks, you need to see what SportsLine DFS pro and PGA expert Mike McClure has to say .

McClure is a DFS legend with over $2 million in career winnings, and he's been red-hot on his PGA picks dating back to the PGA Tour restart in June of 2020. McClure uses his proprietary simulation model to analyze the field and crush his  golf picks . He is up almost $9,500 on his best bets since the restart.

McClure's model predicted Jon Rahm would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scheffler winning in 2022.

This same model has also nailed a whopping 10 majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed McClure's picks has seen massive returns.

Now, McClure has dialed in on the Masters golf tournament and just locked in his top prop picks and PGA predictions. You can only see McClure's Masters 2024 prop picks at SportsLine .

Top 2024 Masters prop picks

We can tell you that one of McClure's favorite Masters prop picks is Ludvig Aberg to be the top debutant at +275. Despite turning pro less than a year ago, Aberg comes to Augusta in strong form. He's already picked up wins on both the PGA Tour and European Tour in the past seven months.

He's also made every cut during his 2024 PGA Tour schedule and hasn't finished worse than 25th in his past six events. His average finish position during that span is 12.8 and he's posted four rounds of 66 or lower this year, including an astonishing 63 in Round 4 of the Sentry. Wyndham Clark is the only other first-time Masters player who can claim a comparable recent run to Aberg, so McClure loves the value of betting on Aberg at a return that approaches 3-1.  You can see who else to back at SportsLine .

How to make Masters 2024 prop picks

McClure has also locked in a slew of other prop bets for the 2024 Masters, including a prop that pays almost 20-1 and comes from an unlikely player. You can find out who it is, and check out all of McClure's Masters prop picks at SportsLine .

Who wins the Masters 2024, and which golfer should you target for almost a 20-1 payout? Visit SportsLine now to get Mike McClure's Masters 2024 prop picks, all from the golf expert who is up almost $9,500 on his best bets since 2020 , and find out.

Chris Kirk (+17500) … Although it’d align with the theme of 2024, because the Masters Tournament rarely yields a longshot as its champion, it’s kind of absurd not to identify a shorter option who isn’t in my Power Rankings, but at some point, another longshot will be posing for photographs beside the 18th green as the sun sets on Sunday afternoon, because, well, golf. What Kirk is attempting to do this year is what defending champion Jon Rahm did last year – win both The Sentry and his first Masters in the same calendar year. Kirk prevailed at Kapalua just three months ago, and now he’s making his fifth appearance at Augusta National. Although his personal-best result is but a share of 20th place a distant 10 years ago, that he’s not a first-timer is key. But most importantly, he possesses his own perspective that keeps secondary how he performs inside the ropes behind the priorities on the outside. If you’re not familiar with his story of overcoming alcohol abuse and depression, do yourself a favor and read what his wife, Tahnee, wrote when Chris received the 2023 PGA TOUR Courage Award in November.

Collin Morikawa (+750) … No matter the competition, the betting boards tend to loosen the leash even for multiple major champions who aren’t in form. While that’s understandable, it’s also appreciated because there isn’t a more insular environment for a scuffling stud to reconnect with what he does best than Augusta National. The course rewards experience and course success more than any other. Despite the intensity on so many levels, it’s still a warm embrace for everyone who has felt it before. He currently checks a couple of boxes that would support the reach, but the unquantifiable is the most important. He’s 4-for-4 in the tournament with a solo fifth in 2022 and a T10 last year.

Rob Bolton | Talk of the TOUR Podcast | Masters Tournament

Corey Conners (+450) … The Canadian isn’t struggling like Morikawa but he’s coming up on eight months without a last top 10, yet he hasn’t missed a cut in almost 10 months. So, the ingredients are in place for Conners, but he hasn’t been cooking at the right temperature. Currently inside the top 20 on the PGA TOUR in greens in regulation, proximity to the hole and par-5 scoring. Meanwhile, and very much like Morikawa, Augusta National has been a reliable source of renewal and repeat. In four editions since the November edition in 2020, Conners has three top 10s.

Taylor Moore (+400) … After fulfilling his projection as a Sleeper for a Top 5 at the Texas Children’s Houston Open , this expectation in his second start of the Masters (T39, 2023) isn’t asking him to run it all the way back, but it’s leaning on his momentum upon arrival to take advantage of a nice kickback despite the smaller field. Prior to the close call at Memorial Park, he finished T12 in his title defense at the Valspar Championship. The fearless 30-year-old is 12th on the PGA TOUR in greens in regulation. He’s also cashed in 14 consecutive starts, so his nose to put himself in contention to pay off the prop is reliable.

Christo Lamprecht (+250) … With a field of only 89, plus value worth chasing isn’t as attractive as usual, so consider riding shotgun with the world’s top-ranked amateur and current No. 2 in PGA TOUR University. The tall drink of water from South Africa is one of five amateurs who qualified, as the winner of The Amateur Championship last year. If you can find a prop for who will lead the field in driving distance, plop a full unit down on him, but the more serious business is his ability to compete. En route to a T44 at the Alfred Dunhill Championship at home in December, he sat T3 and two strokes off the lead at the midpoint, and he already has made a cut in a major (T74, 2023 Open Championship). If you're curious about how often amateurs crack the top 40 at the Masters, it’s happened four times in the last five editions, the most recent of which was Sam Bennet (T16) a year ago.

Remco Evenepoel and Jonas Vingegaard Suffer Broken Collarbones at Itzulia Basque Country

Stage 4 of Itzulia Basque Country was marked by a devastating crash, which left multiple top riders hospitalized.

63rd itzulia basque country 2024 stage 4

Among the injured, Visma-Lease a Bike’s Vingegaard suffered a broken collarbone and several fractured ribs and will remain in the hospital. Evenepoel (Soudal-Quickstep) also suffered a broken right collarbone and right scapula, according to each of the riders’ teams.

UAE Team Emirates’ Jay Vine also sustained fractures to three of his vertebrae, while Roglič (Bora-hansgrohe), already grappling with injuries from a prior crash, was forced to abandon the race but fortunately sustained less severe injuries and was attended to by medical staff on-site.

The incident occurred approximately 35 km from the finish line as the peloton navigated a tight right-hand bend within dense woodland. One rider’s slide triggered a domino effect, resulting in multiple riders tumbling down, some landing in unprotected concrete ditches. Initial reports suggest at least ten riders were affected, six requiring immediate hospitalization.

The severity of the crash prompted the race organizers to neutralize the competition, with concerns mounting as ambulances rushed to the scene to attend to the fallen riders. The extent of the injuries varied, with some riders, like Jay Vine of UAE Team Emirates, requiring hospitalization for further evaluation.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. However, local rider Mikel Bizkarra shed light on the treacherous conditions of the road, citing the presence of underlying tree roots that rendered the asphalt uneven and prone to accidents.

As the race organization dealt with the aftermath, decisions were made to neutralize the GC battle for the day, with only the breakaway riders continuing their pursuit to the finish line. Riders like Vingegaard, conscious but under observation, were transported to hospitals for further assessment.

Best players in Masters field? LIV golfers, Tiger Woods, favorites and more

Who is in the 2024 masters field looking at the best golfers playing at augusta national this week, including odds-on favorites, liv players and tiger woods..

bike tours top 10

From Tiger Woods to LIV golfers, the 2024 Masters field is loaded with stars as expected.

Who are the best golfers in the 89-player Masters field?

It’s easy to say Scottie Scheffler , the world’s No. 1 ranked golfer and 2022 Masters champion, who has won twice this season. He’s enjoying a historic stretch, with 87 top 10 finishes in 119 PGA Tour starts since joining the PGA Tour in 2018.  He has won $54,058,464 on Tour in less than four seasons, with eight victories.

Then there’s Jon Rahm , the defending Masters champion who joined LIV Golf in December. He’s still No. 3 in the world, right behind Rory McIlroy, who just needs a Masters championship to complete a career grand slam.

The past four winners at Augusta National were first-time Masters winners. Xander Schauffele, at No. 5 in the world, is seeking his first major after winning seven PGA Tour events.

Let’s take a look at the best golfers in the 2024 Masters field, plus world rankings and Masters odds.

Best golfers in Masters field 2024

The best golfers in the Masters field don’t always have the best odds.

Here are 10 of the best golfers to watch at the Masters, regardless of whether or not they’re the best bets.

Ludvig Aberg

The rookie out of Texas Tech will make his major tournament debut. Can he really win on his first try? Absolutely. Aberg was unflappable while helping Europe win the Ryder Cup last summer. He’s already won on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour and is ranked No. 9 in the world.

Wyndham Clark

The 2023 U.S. Open champion is hitting his stride at age 30. He was runner-up to world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler at both Bay Hill and the Players Championship this season. He’s No. 10 on the PGA Tour in driving distance (309.2), so don’t expect Augusta National’s par 5s to intimidate him.

Bryson DeChambeau

DeChambeau hasn’t been great at the Masters, but the 2020 U.S. Open champion is bound to make a splash in the majors again soon. He won twice on the LIV circuit last season, which included a 58 at Greenbrier. He finished in the top 10 in three straight tournaments before last week.

Brooks Koepka

He led most of the way in the 2023 Masters before succumbing to eventual champion Jon Rahm. All golfers put more emphasis on the majors than regular events, and Koepka is the epitome of that. He won back-to-back U.S. Opens in 2017 and 2018, then repeated at the PGA Championship in 2018 and 2019, before claiming another PGA Championship title in 2023.

Shane Lowry

He ranks third on the PGA Tour in strokes gained approach (0.928), seventh in strokes gained tee to green (1.323) and has four top-25 finishes at the Masters. He finished third at Bay Hill this year and tied for fourth at the Honda Classic. Lowry might not be an attractive choice, but expect him to be in the mix.

Rory McIlroy

The No. 2 golfer in the world hasn’t contended as much as he’d like this season. But the four-time major winner leads the PGA Tour in total driving (55) and is fourth in driving distance (312.2). He placed third at last week’s Valero Texas Open, posting a Sunday 66 to finish 11 under.

Joaquin Niemann

He’s won twice on the LIV circuit this season. That helped him get a special invite to play in the Masters, where he finished tied for 16th last year. He won the Australian Open this season, finished fifth at the Australian PGA Championship and tied for fourth at the DP World Tour event in Dubai.

Rahm is the defending Masters champion and looking for his third major title in addition to his 2021 U.S. Open championship. His jump to LIV in December was the biggest story in golf last year. He has four top 10 finishes in four LIV events played. Perhaps even bigger: Rahm has five top 10s in his last six Masters starts.

Xander Schauffele

Schauffele has seven PGA Tour wins but no majors yet. He has four top 5 finishes this season, including a runner-up spot behind Scheffler at the Players Championship. He ranks No. 2 in strokes gained (1.934) on the PGA Tour behind only Scheffler.

Scottie Scheffler

Here’s your favorite. The 2022 Masters champion won the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Players Championship in back-to-back weeks before a runner-up finish at the Houston Open this season. He is first or second on Tour this season in greens in regulation (No. 1, 76.3%), strokes gained (No. 1, 2.81), strokes gained off the tee (No. 2, 0.90) and strokes gained approach to green (No. 1, 1.34).

Is Tiger Woods playing the Masters?

Yes, Tiger Woods is in the 2024 Masters field. He’ll tee off with Jason Day and Max Homa at 1:24 p.m. ET on Thursday.

Woods, who owns five Masters championships, still deals with physical ailments that have led to numerous surgeries late in his career. His surgically fused right ankle forced him to withdraw in the third round of the 2023 Masters.

Woods has won the Masters five times. His 2019 win at Augusta National, following a comeback to golf through personal and physical challenges, will always be one of golf’s best stories.
