All Aboard San Diego’s Taco Trolley Tour

San Diego’s proximity to Mexico, its abundance of fresh ingredients, and the extension of the trolley’s Blue Line from the border in the south to La Jolla in the north have made the region a must-visit destination for trolley and taco lovers everywhere.

With an adult day pass costing as little as $6 through the Pronto app , the trolley also offers a low-cost way to see the sights and taste the bites that help make San Diego a unique destination — where every day can be a Taco Trolley day!

Stop 1 – UTC Trolley Station

A great place to start is at the new UTC Trolley station. This station not only offers easy access to some of the region’s best shopping at the Westfield UTC mall. It is also home to Tocaya Modern Mexican . This light, bright casual eatery is known for healthy fare and plenty of vegan options. The piña pastor is a standout. It’s an inventive mix of adobo tofu, vegan chipotle jack cheese, grilled pineapple salsa, red peppers, onions and arbol salsa.

Stop 2 – Clairemont Drive Trolley Station

Eight stops down is the Clairemont Drive Trolley station, where a short walk leads to Mike’s Red Tacos food truck. This new addition to the Bay Park neighborhood serves up its acclaimed birria tacos featuring locally sourced, fresh tortillas dipped in chili oil and crisped up for their signature red color. Mike’s Red Tacos is only open on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. or until it sells out.

Stop 3 – Old Town Trolley Station

A few stops farther south is the Old Town Trolley Station, a gateway to Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. Old Town also has more than 30 neighboring restaurants. While many offer a wide range of cuisines, the most popular are traditional and contemporary Mexican dishes. Make sure to check out the new Old Town Urban Market This outdoor dining and entertainment complex six blocks from the station, is home to the Michelin-recognized Tuetano Taqueria , which specializes in slow-cooked, Tijuana-style beef birria tacos. For the adventurous epicurean, the much-heralded bone marrow taco is also a must-try.

Stop 4 – Washington Street Station

The very next trolley station is the Washington Street stop, where just up the hill sits Lucha Libre Taco Shop . The restaurant’s décor is inspired by the bright colors and distinctive masks of Mexican wrestling. And the menu features such dishes as the “undefeated seafood taco” and the birria quesa taco, with beef birria, melted cheese, onions, cilantro and salsa muerta. Call ahead to reserve the “Champ’s Booth”. It’s a table nestled into an outlandish gold vinyl booth complete with its own special menu.

Stop 5 – County Center/Little Italy Station

A couple of stops south on the Blue Line is the County Center/Little Italy station. Hop off and take an easy walk to King and Queen Cantina . This hip, art-filled eatery sits in the heart of San Diego’s lively Little Italy district. The eclectic menu features all kinds of specialty tacos. Order a Hot Cheetos asada taco, which comes with melted cheese, Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, chipotle aioli, lime crema and green cabbage, topped with serrano sauce, red radish and cilantro.

Stop 6 – Santa Fe Station and Transfer to Green Line

One stop down is the historic Santa Fe Depot. At the station, catch a transfer to the Green Line for a quick trip to the Seaport Village station. A short walk from there is the picturesque Old Police Headquarters, which houses Puesto at the Headquarters . The restaurant chain, which started in San Diego, provides an innovative and contemporary approach to authentic Mexican cuisine. Puesto sources its ingredients locally and regionally for its Mexico City-inspired tacos. The filet mignon taco is a standout, prepared with a handmade blue-corn tortilla, Puesto’s signature crispy melted cheese, avocado and spicy pistachio serrano salsa.

Stop 7 – Gaslamp Quarter Station

Two stops away on the Green Line, trolley riders will find themselves in the heart of the action at the Gaslamp Quarter station. This historic downtown neighborhood is known for its eclectic and electric night life. A few blocks over and just steps away from Petco Park is The Blind Burro . Stop by to enjoy Baja coastal cuisine with handcrafted food in a relaxed atmosphere. Taco offerings include coffee-rubbed salmon, cilantro-lime grilled shrimp and vegetarian crispy spiced cauliflower.

Stop 8 – 12 th and Imperial Station

One stop away from the Gaslamp is the 12th & Imperial station, which reconnects with the Blue Line. And a short ride on the Blue Line will transport taco lovers to the Barrio Logan neighborhood. Just past Chicano Park, which features more than 80 murals detailing the struggles and beauty of the Mexican-American community, is ¡SALUD TACOS! on Logan Avenue. Featured on the Travel Channel, the former taco truck is known for its authentic tacos, tattoo-inspired wall art and pinstriped car hoods. The restaurant’s menu pays homage to the street food of Northern Mexico with its own Chicano flair. The carne asada taco or the “classic street taco” is a rite of passage here, with marinated steak on a handmade corn tortilla, topped with guacamole, onions and cilantro.

Where to find the Best Tacos

San Diego is your best bet for finding authentic tacos and fun foodie variations of the classic outside of Mexico itself. Taco fanatics theorize that generous Mexican immigrants might have introduced San Diego to the taco as early as the late 1800’s.     “America’s Finest City” is located on the Pacific Coast, only 20 miles from Mexico, and is made up of distinct neighborhoods, each with their own flavors and flair – and each with their own taco shops.

You can find great tacos throughout the city, but some neighborhoods really stand out when it comes to incredible tacos. Barrio Logan is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city, it has a vibrant culture with strong Mexican influence, and some seriously flavorful tacos. Downtown is another hot neighborhood to try some of the best tacos in San Diego. On Springsteen tour, Asbury Park elegy 'My City of Ruins' takes on new life in San Diego

2 minute read.

taco tour san diego reviews

It's from Asbury Park — with love.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed the 2023-24 tour debut of “My City of Ruins” at the March 25 Pechanga Arena show in San Diego.

The song, originally written for the then-blighted Asbury Park more than 20 years ago, has taken on several meanings over the years. In San Diego, the Springsteen spoken intro for the gospel-tinged elegy suggests it's now a declaration of the current tour's theme: facing mortality with a rock 'n' roll heart.

“We are here tonight to bring the joyous power of rock and soul music into your life,” said Springsteen during the intro while the music slow-burned in the background (check out the Aisles Music Visions fan shot video on YouTube ). “We are here to wake you, to shake you, to take you to higher ground! But the thing is, we can't get there by ourselves. We need your help! We need you to help us get there! Are you ready! Because I plan on sending you home with your feet hurting, your hands hurting, your sexual organs stimulated.”

Yet Springsteen shows have a higher calling than just the desire of the flesh.

“Of course, we got a story to tell,” Springsteen continued. “It's a story about yesterday and about tonight, and hopefully tomorrow. It's about hellos and goodbyes. It's about the things that leave us and the things that remain. That's a lot of ground to cover so it may take a little time, so let's get started.”

The arrangement performed on Monday highlighted members of the E Street Horns: Curt Ramm and Barry Danielian on trumpet, Eddie Manion on sax, and Ozzie Melendez on trombone. E Streeter Jake Clemons joined in on sax.

The song also frames the E Street Choir: Anthony Almonte, Curtis King, Michelle Moore, Lisa Lowell and Ada Dyer.

Springsteen did a roll call and introduced band members toward the end of the song.

“Are we missing anybody? Are we missing anybody? Everybody's missing somebody,” Springsteen said. “The only thing I can guarantee tonight is if you're here and we're here, then they're here.”

The Boss debuted “My City of Ruins” in December 2000 at Convention Hall in Asbury Park. The San Diego concert also featured the tour debuts to “Death of my Hometown,” “Detroit Medley” and “Bobby Jean”.

Up next is the Chase Center in San Francisco on Thursday, March 28. Springsteen and the E Street Band play Asbury Park on Sept. 15, part of the Sea Hear Now festival.

Bruce Springsteen’s tour, delayed by illness, arrives in San Diego on Monday

Bruce Springsteen performs in the opening concert of his world tour on Tuesday in Phoenix.

The tour, which “The Boss” postponed due to a peptic ulcer, kicked off Tuesday in Arizona with the singer-guitarist in high spirits and fit shape

“The Boss” is back, baby!

Following a peptic ulcer disease diagnosis, the “Born To Run” singer had to postpone a string of performances last year. In September, he announced he would be taking time off to recover.

But now, the rock phenom is finally back in action. His tour arrives in San Diego on Monday, March 25, with a concert at Pechanga Arena San Diego. All face-value tickets for the show are sold-out. Re-sale tickets, which are priced higher, are available.

On Tuesday, March 19, the 74-year-old Springsteen and the E Street Band played at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, opening with a “Good evening, Arizona” to the crowd, followed by the crowd-stirring “Lonesome Day.”

His 29-song performance proved to be a “triumphant reboot” for the iconic musician, who showed no signs of his past ailment during the three-hour show, according to the Associated Press.

Aside from “Born in the U.S.A.,” Springsteen performed signature hits like “Rosalita,” “No Surrender,” “Glory Days” and “Dancing In The Dark,” while adding a few covers to the mix. According to ABC News, the heralded rocker played “Nightshift” by the Commodores and a surprising rendition of “Twist and Shout” by the Isley Brothers.

“Phoenix, first I want to apologize if there was any discomfort because we had to move the show last time ... I hope we didn’t inconvenience you too much,” Springsteen, who postponed nearly 30 shows on his world tour last year, said before closing out the show.

Springsteen, decked in a red plaid flannel shirt and dark jeans, was lauded by fans for his lively energy and physique. While many marveled at the 74-year-old artist’s very fit shape, others jokingly compared Springsteen to svelte British actress Tilda Swinton.

“Absolutely thought this was Tilda Swinton in a new role where she plays a wrestler,” one Twitter/X user commented on a picture of Springsteen with his half-unbuttoned shirt.

“Actually, (we) never seen (Tilda) Swinton and Bruce Springsteen in the same room… new conspiracy just dropped,” the same user later tweeted.

Springsteen’s Phoenix date marked the first stop on his 2024 world tour. Before ending in Vancouver, British Columbia, on Nov. 22, he and the E Street Band will play in 17 countries across 52 dates.

Marina del Pilar invites citizens to renew vehicle circulation card 100% digitally

More than 60 procedures can be carried out online through the Ventanilla Única digital platform

By Redacción 2024-03-26T06:35:00+00:00

The governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, announced that it is possible to renew circulation cards online, which will prevent you from waiting in line for hours, as you'll be able to do it from home and in a matter of minutes.

As such, the state governor said that to simplify procedures and services of the state government, the Digital Agency of Baja California (ADBC), the Secretariat of Finance (SH), and the Tax Revenue Service of Baja California (SATBC), they are all joining efforts so that citizens can begin and finish the entire circulation card process of their vehicles, wherever they are and from any device with an internet connection.

For his part, the head of ADBC, Gabriel Palombo, stated that it is very easy to do this procedure. Before starting, one has to download and register on the "Identidad Digital BC" app, available on IOS and Android. Once registered and personal data is validated, you can go to their official website . The state official added that, after license plate numbers are submitted, fields will be filled out that will set the price. You can click continue and you will receive a verification code in your email and/or phone that had been previously registered.

After that, users can fill out additional requested data and you can make your payment with your preferred card. Lastly, when the procedure is concluded, you will receive a file number on your email that will allow you to get your circulation card, which you can check on the "Identidad Digital BC" app alongside your driver's license.

"Both the digital license and circulation card are valid in all the municipalities of Baja California and the states of California and Arizona in the United States," Palombo said.

It should be noted that during Holy Week, the Revenue Collection offices of Baja California will be open from Monday, March 25 to Thursday, March 28 from 8 AM to 5 PM. On Friday, March 29, it will be open until 1 PM and it will be closed on Saturday.
